When the [[Predacon (RID)|Predacons]] stole the [[Plutonium Energy Generator]], [[T-AI]] called in the Spy Changers. [[Hot Shot (RID)|Hot Shot]], Crosswise and [[R.E.V.]] responded first, pursuing the Predacons onto the beach where they were joined by the other three Spy Changers. During the "cyber-jousting", Crosswise gave R.E.V. a lift. The Predacons eventually escaped with a fake generator which the Spy Changers had swapped for the real one. {{storylink|Spychangers to the Rescue}}

After Optimus was captured and tortured by Megatron, the Spy Changers joined the [[Autobot Brothers]] in rescuing their leader and seeing off the Predacons. {{storylink|Sideburn's Obsession}}

Later, the team tried to protect a ruby from Predacon theft and Mirage's failure to take a shot resulted in the Predacons escaping. When Mirage pretended to defect and led the Spy Changers to [[Megatron (RID)|Megatron]]'s [[Mega-Laser Cannon]], Crosswise was able to formulate a plan to destroy it using the [[Global Space Bridge]]. {{storylink|Mirage's Betrayal}}

The Spy Changers also took part in the [[International Grand Prix]] in an attempt to find [[Skid-Z (RID)|Skid-Z]] and were blinded by Megatron a short time into the race. {{storylink|Skid Z's Choice}} On another occasion, the Spy Changers were called back to base to watch footage of various battles, but had to wrap up a fight with the Predacons first. R.E.V. rode on Crosswise again. {{storylink|Hope for the Future}}

The Spy Changers accompanied [[Optimus Prime (RID)|Optimus Prime]] to [[Montrose Island]] where Predacon activity was causing the volcano to become violent. They attempted to keep [[Scourge (RID)|Scourge]] and [[Sky-Byte (RID)|Sky-Byte]] busy while Optimus went to use his blizzard storm on the volcano. When the volcano was ruptured and lava threatened the nearby resort, Crosswise took point in the Spy Changers' [[Inferno Blast]] to divert its path. He warned that his engine was in danger of redlining, but it survived long enough to complete the maneuver. {{storylink|Volcano}}

Sent to stop the Decepticons from finding [[Fortress Maximus (RID)|Fortress Maximus]], the Spy Changers jumped out in front of the foe and were soundly trounced by [[Armorhide (RID)|Armorhide]] and [[Rollbar (RID)|Rollbar]]. {{storylink|Fortress Maximus (episode)|Fortress Maximus}}

Galvatron sent every single Sweep crashing into the planet's plasma pits, and the only one that fought back did no damage whatsoever to his leader. They pursued the ship to an [[Autobot Mausoleum]], where they were fought off by the resurrected [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. {{storylink|Dark Awakening}} Much later, three Sweeps hunted the Decepticon exile [[Octane (G1)|Octane]] alongside Scourge and Cyclonus, and cornered him in a [[Decepticon Crypt|crypt]] on Cybertron. When Scourge ordered the Sweeps to enter the crypt, all three cowardly refused to be the first one in, until Cyclonus got fed up with it and offered to fight whoever was the last one in. The pool, which also contained the remains of denizens from the [[Dead Universe]], reformatted the bodies into clones of Scourge, who would be their master. Galvatron was incensed that the Sweeps were not created in ''his'' image. Scourge, his Sweeps and [[Cyclonus (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Cyclonus]] then began to aid Galvatron on his new quest. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 14|All Hail Megatron #14}} Their first mission was to scour Gorlam Prime for its inhabitants, who had disappeared without a trace. In one of these portals, an infected Sweep or two was seen amongst zombified robots and humans. {{storylink|Infestation issue 1|Infestation #1}} The infection had occurred when Galvatron's ship encountered a space-time anomaly on its way to [[Earth]]. He ordered three Sweeps to retrieve a frozen chunk of wreckage that had been flung from the anomaly, but when it was brought on board, zombie humans and robots erupted from it, infecting the three Sweeps. After the zombie threat had been dealt with, Galvatron took his army with him to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], their first line of defense against D-Void. Noting that they were [[Slingshot (weapon)|armed]], he broke Galvatron's orders by engaging the Autobots, and was subsequently shot down by Wheelie. Galvatron used the Darkness to heal the Sweep's injuries and scolded him, telling him that all Transformers needed to work together. Under the command of Cyclonus, a large number of Sweeps invaded [[Kimia Facility]] in order to take control of it for Galvatron's use. Meanwhile, [[Optimus Prime (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Optimus Prime]] arrived on Cybertron but refused to join Galvatron's army, and several Sweeps were sent to destroy him and his landing party. They were all killed, and [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]] used one of the corpses to clobber Galvatron. {{storylink|Chaos Part One: Lamentations}} While a number of Sweeps defended Kimia from aerial Autobot forces, most stayed behind with Galvatron until Wheelie tried to snipe him only to kill a Sweep instead. : Sweeps [[Sweep Two#Toys|Two]], [[Sweep Six#Toys|Six]] and [[Sweep Seven#Toys|Seven]] came in an [[exclusive]] three-pack at [[BotCon 2009]], all three being identical [[redeco]]s of the ''Timelines'' [[Scourge (G1)#Timelines|Scourge]] toy available at the same convention. The mold is a [[retool]] of ''[[Transformers: Cybertron (franchise)|Cybertron]]'' [[Sideways (RID)#Cybertron|Sideways]] with a new head, transforming into a teal and white alien spacefighter with yellow detailing. The Sweeps are armed with "battle shields" with Cyber Key-activated pop-out blades. Their wings can also detach from their ankles and also be used as blades, with both [[5mm post|pegging]] into their hands, either with one blade in each hand, or with both blades pegging into the top and bottom of a single hand, forming a double-bladed weapon. They come with three yellow Planet X-style Cyber Keys with teal deco.

==Synopsis==

The second [[Golden Age]] of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] has come to an end. The armies created by [[Jhiaxus (G2)|Jhiaxus]], cloned from some of the most infamous Decepticons in history and led by [[Megaplex (MW)|Megaplex]]—clone of [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]—have swept across the galaxy, devastating the forces of the Autobots and Decepticons wherever they are found. [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]] falls in battle on [[Sigma Seven]]; with their leader left comatose, the understaffed Autobots on Cybertron divide their ranks, each polity headed by a [[City Commander]] charged with independently coordinating defense of their territory. A new war is looming: the Machine Wars.

Two days after the warning from Sigma Seven, as any and all able 'bots are being drafted for the coming conflict, [[Clamp Down]] interrogates [[Mirage (G1)|Mirage]] and [[Electro]], intending to offer them freedom to fight in exchange for a full confession implicating Earth commander [[Pyro (G1)|Pyro]] in the smuggling of illegal war supplies to Cybertron. Electro defies him, insisting their actions (including the use of illegal body modifications on themselves) were necessary, but when an alarm starts blaring, Mirage quickly offers up the confession so that battle can be joined. They look out the window to see a huge fleet of bombers soaring overhead, wiping their city off the map. Frenzied communication between the Autobots ensues, but within half a day, every major city on the planet is conquered, and the surviving Autobots are forced into hiding.

Three-and-a-half days later, [[Thundercracker (MW)|Thundercracker]] and a platoon of his [[Thundercracker drone|drones]] respond to an incursion into his territory, but find that the trespassers are merely [[Empty|Empties]] from the [[Rad Zone]]. Believing they have merely come to scavenge the remains of the bombed-out city, he lets his guard down... and soon learns the folly of his actions, as the "Empties" cast off their cloaks to reveal that they are actually a rebel cell led by [[Obsidian (BM)|Obsidian]] and [[Strika (BM)|Strika]]! Battle erupts; the pacifistic [[Sandstorm (MW)|Sandstorm]] is loathe to use lethal force, but when a Thundercracker drone charges him, he inadvertently shoots it at point-blank range and terminates it, much to his horror and Strika's grudging respect. As the other drones begin adapting to the rebel's attack patterns, Strika hurls an explosive sphere into the sky, blasting a path through the clone ranks that allows Obsidian and tagalong [[Decepticon]] [[Octane]] to take to the air. Octane rankles under Obsidian's command, though, and reminds him he is merely there to help his old friend Sandstorm. Presently, they defeat the drones, and, over Sandstorm's protestations against her violent tactics, Strika coerces the coordinates to Megaplex's location from Thundercracker.

In [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]], Megaplex surveys the devastated planet, haunted by the exhilaration it makes him feel. [[Starscream (MW)|Starscream]] warns him he is beginning to sound like Megatron himself, prompting Megaplex, his distaste for the comparison barely disguised, to caution Starscream that ''he'' should strive to be less like [[Starscream (G1)|his own template]]. [[Skywarp (MW)|Skywarp]] arrives to report the capture of Thundercracker, and given that Starscream cannot send his [[Starscream drone|drones]] in without fear of injuring their comrade, Megaplex decides to deal with the matter personally.

After waiting for an hour outside Iacon, Electro and Mirage are finally met by Obsidian's group, who have deliberately taken their time approaching to ensure they have been seen with Thundercracker, exploiting the clones' genuine concern for their own to prevent any attacks. Megaplex and his forces arrive and demand that Thundercracker be turned over, but Obsdian refuses, aggravating the clone commander by comparing him to Megatron. Casting his sword aside, Megaplex lunges for Obsidian, intending to crush him with his bare hands... at which points Obsidian orders Mirage to shut down his [[electro-disrupter]], revealing the larger force of Autobots and Decepticons who have surrounded the clones. The Autobots withdrawing from the cities was a ruse, Obsidian reveals, allowing them to regroup and corral Megaplex's armies into one location. A mighty battle erupts; Electro seizes Megaplex's discarded sword and uses his [[Forestonite]]-granted [[Laser Rod]] powers to energize it, dispatching Starscream with its blasts. Megaplex is impressed, but as he battles Obsidian one-on-one, notes that he has plenty of impressive weapons of his own, like the [[fusion cannon]] he unleashes against the rebel leader. His rant is interrupted, however, by a howl of pain from Sandstorm, who undergoes a sudden change in personality, and vicious opens fire on Obsidian, cutting him down. Sandstorm is not, in the fact, the original pacifistic Autobot that everyone believed he was, but another of Jhiaxus's clones, hidden amongst the Autobot forces as a sleeper agent and trump card. Megaplex is indignant at Sandstorm's assumption of command, but moments later, Jhiaxus and the rest of his forces arrive on Cybertron to explain: the war has changed Megaplex, awakening the urges of his template within him. Jhiaxus has no need of a Megatron in his army, and so he offers Megaplex the same choice he gives the Autobots and Decepticons: leave Cybertron, or be destroyed...
