The year's showstopper was another ''Real & Robo'' entry: the Train Robo series. The first-ever combiner as we think of them today, the Train Robo were made up of six individual train engines that could combine into a single massive robot or into, you know, a train. Modular plastic train track accessories were included with each figure to facilitate that second one that were dropped for their eventual ''Transformers'' releases. The Train Robo molds were passed up for the 1984 and 1985 assortments (likely due to the relative unpopularity of their alternate modes outside of train-tastic Japan) and did not become Transformers until the debut of the Takara-exclusive ''[[Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers (franchise)#Headmasters|Headmasters]]'' sub-franchise in 1987.

There were two color variations released for the ''Diaclone'' line, making 12 individual trains total: Numbers 1-6 were standard retail decoes released both individually and as a gift set. It was this deco that was rereleased virtually unchanged for release as [[Raiden]] and his components the [[Trainbot]]s. Numbers 7-12 are much rarer and were never released as a giftset. These decoes were used as inspiration for [[G Liner]] and the "prototype Trainbots." Springer and Darak continue to make their way to Agorria, but the terrain forces Springer to convert to his helicopter mode . Springer continues to probe Darak for details on his encounter with [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]], but Darak informs him that while he could direct Springer to the planetoid, he unfortunately didn't catch Jetfire's trajectory. As their conversation finishes, they reach the outskirts of Agorria, and Darak disembarks into the city.

On the other side of the Sacred Ring, [[Zalilak]] pays a visit to the [[Temple of Zerta's Light]], for a meeting with [[Vill]]. Meanwhile, Solila continues her descent into the center of the planet, musing to Handroid that she hasn't felt hungry since Springer gave her Energon. As they reach what appears to be the end of the path, Solila simply grabs a pole and jumps into the depths of the planet. She uses the pole to slow her descent against the walls as she nears the bottom, and makes her landing...

In Agorria, Darak is approached by Director [[Elander]], who informs him that his father, Minister [[Dulin]], wants to see him. At the capital, Dulin demands Darak turn in Solila, and voices his disappointment in his son's chosen path in life. Dulin wanted a successor, not another pilot. When Darak passionately tells his father that they need to stop the stupid war with the Zertonians and unify as one race, Dulin warns him that the current status quo is actually to the benefit of their planet - and that Unity would lead to their end.

Mistress Vill converses with Zalilak, informing him that their sacred texts were flawed. Zalilak is furious at the blasphemy, but Vill knocks him to his knees and explains that Zalilak will be taught their ways; while the texts do state that unity will bring an end, unity will also be followed by a new beginning.

Springer continues to probe Darak for details on his encounter with [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]], but Darak informs him that while he could direct Springer to the planetoid, he unfortunately didn't catch Jetfire's trajectory. As their conversation finishes, they reach the outskirts of Agorria, and Darak disembarks into the city.

On the other side of the Sacred Ring, [[Zalilak]] pays a visit to the [[Temple of Zerta's Light]], for a meeting with [[Vill]]. Meanwhile, Solila continues her descent into the center of the planet, musing to Handroid that she hasn't felt hungry since Springer gave her Energon. As they reach what appears to be the end of the path, Solila simply grabs a pole and jumps into the depths of the planet. She uses the pole to slow her descent against the walls as she nears the bottom, and makes her landing...

In Agorria, Darak is approached by Director [[Elander]], who informs him that his father, Minister [[Dulin]], wants to see him. At the capital, Dulin demands Darak turn in Solila, and voices his disappointment in his son's chosen path in life. Dulin wanted a successor, not another pilot. When Darak passionately tells his father that they need to stop the stupid war with the Zertonians and unify as one race, Dulin warns him that the current status quo is actually to the benefit of their planet - and that Unity would lead to their end.

Mistress Vill converses with Zalilak, informing him that their sacred texts were flawed. Zalilak is furious at the blasphemy, but Vill knocks him to his knees and explains that Zalilak will be taught their ways; while the texts do state that unity will bring an end, unity will also be followed by a new beginning.

==Synopsis==
As the ''[[Ark (G1)|Ark]]'' careens toward [[Earth|the blue and green planet]] below, [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] tears through the opposing forces of its [[Autobot]] crew. The [[Decepticon]] leader blasts a hole through [[Brawn (G1)|Brawn]]'s chest, causing an enraged [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] to attack him. Megatron taunts Optimus as the two trade blows, blaming him for [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]'s destruction. Using his [[energon-axe]], Optimus slices off Megatron's right arm, allowing him to kick Megatron towards an opening in the ship. Hanging onto the edge, Megatron orders [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] to aid him, but the [[Seeker (body-type)|Seeker]] uses this opportunity to finally seize leadership of the Decepticons, blasting Megatron and sending him falling to the planet.

Awaking sometime later — and now missing both arms — in the science labs of [[Cobra-La]], Megatron's fury finally allows him to escape the shackles of his captors, crushing a Cobra-La scientist under his foot. He demands the return of his limbs, but the surviving scientist tells him they were only able to find one. Megatron allows the scientist to live as thanks and reattaches his left arm. However, he is interrupted by the arrival of Lord [[Golobulus]] and his [[Royal Guard]]. Golobulus orders his soldiers not to let "the beast" escape. Living up to this description, Megatron savagely tears his way through the Royal Guard and Golobulus's Cobra-La creatures before Golobulus manages to stab him his remaining eye. Blinded and furious, Megatron flees from the battle by flying upwards, bursting through to the surface of the planet. Amid the snowy mountains, Megatron swears that he will find Starscream and make him pay!

==Overview==
The aliens [[Darak]] and [[Solila]], members of two warring factions, become stranded on a deserted planet and are forced to work together to survive. While attempting to escape, the two come across the derelict form of the [[Transformer|Cybertronian]] [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]], who is restored to functionality and leaves to check on the state of his homeworld, [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]].

Jetfire's journey brings him to the planet Earth, where he finds and reactivates the dormant [[Autobot]]s and [[Decepticon]]s and they resume their war. In response to their awakening, events are set into motion that will lead to the formation of the special ops team [[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]] and the terrorist organization [[Cobra]].

==Development==
[[Robert Kirkman]] first began developing the Energon Universe in [[2021]] after Hasbro approached Skybound about taking over the licenses for ''Transformers'' and ''G.I. Joe'' from [[IDW Publishing]]. Wanting to do something unique, Kirkman proposed launching the universe with a new property that would feature a surprise reveal in the first issue, which eventually became ''Void Rivals''. Along with writing ''Void Rivals'', Kirkman acts as a sort of "showrunner" for the rest of the Energon Universe line, with other creators working on the main ''Transformers'' and ''G.I.
