At [[Hoover Dam]], [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]] is cajoled and taunted by [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron's spirit]] into placing an [[AllSpark|AllSpark fragment]] and the interface module into Megatron's [[Transformers Comic issue 13|corpse]]. After doing so, Starscream finds his mind is his own again... and he realises just what he's done!

In [[Philadelphia]], [[Pennsylvania]], the [[Decepticon Civil War]] is reaching its conclusion! [[Stockade (Movie)|Stockade]], [[Fracture (Movie)|Fracture]], and their [[drone]]s tear through [[Blackout (Movie)|Blackout's]] forces, taking over the drones they don't destroy. Blackout rejects Stockade's offer to surrender and sics [[Scorponok (Movie)|Scorponok]] on him... and gets Scorponok thrown back at him. [[Overcast (Movie)|Overcast]] "tidies up" the beaten foes, while Stockade states the next objective is to seize the [[Decepticon Heartland]], not that Starscream will be a challenge. And when Overcast asks if they'll really just hand [[Earth]] back at the end of it, Stockade hints they may ''not''...

Southwest of Lynchburg, [[Virginia (state)|Virginia]], [[Mikaela Banes]] is being called to an early morning meeting with [[Tom Banachek]] at a diner. Tom reveals that two weeks ago, he was covertly contacted by [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] to be part of their contingency plan for ''when'' [[Theodore Allen]] was used against them. Tom was given the means to 'see' Decepticon cerebro-strips and see who in the government was a Decepticon puppet, and has finally identified everyone from the President on down. He then reveals to a stunned Mikaela that the Autobots faked their deaths so they could operate more easily... just as four very familiar driverless vehicles turn up...

As the sun rises on [[Savannah]], the New Decepticons find absolutely no one is home. Fracture wonders if Starscream just up and ran, but Stockade knows things are never ''that'' easy... and then, hovering like a vast predatory bird, ''Megatron'' blitzes them and makes a landing!

The Autobots rocket down the interstate to Georgia, and [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]] finds Mikaela's a wee bit pissed at him for faking his death without telling her, believing they didn't trust her not to be a puppet again. He apologetically explains ''how'' they faked their deaths—launching a jamming pulse that disabled all video feeds long enough to cloak their shuttle and ''de''cloak a ''second'' shuttle to get hit by the Patriot missile—but she's still angry. After all they'd been through, didn't she deserve better?

As the Autobots arrive, Stockade and Megatron are duking it out, Megatron taking every [[Nucleon (substance)|Nucleon]]-fueled blow and striking back, while the other New Decepticons are strafed by a silent Starscream. [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus]] gets confirmation from <s>Strongarm</s> Ironhide that [[Evac (Movie)|Evac]] reports "go" on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] and all regional strike teams are ready... and then orders the Autobots to strike! The Autobots begin shooting strange attachments onto the Decepticon's backs, while Optimus distracts Megatron with ''violence''. Stockade recognises the devices and protests to [[Strongarm (Movie)|Strongarm]] that they had a deal—to which the Autobot replies Stockade was merrily ''altering'' that deal, so he can be part of the ''new'' one...

...and suddenly ''every'' Decepticon on Earth is forcibly teleported to Cybertron! The Autobots had spent the last fortnight rigging up the teleportation equipment that [[Unicron]] had installed into Cybertron so that they could 'tag' and transport people there... and then rig the planet itself to teleport! The assembly will burn out and there are no spares on Cybertron, leaving the Decepticons all trapped on a dead world in the far reaches of space...

Mikaela asks if this means the Autobots are trapped on Earth, but Bumblebee replies there are worse fates. Tom and Optimus note there's still a long way to go, with Decepticon puppets to liberate and drones to decommission, but the war is now over.

And Mikaela gets into Bumblebee and drives off to explore this brave new world...

*Stockade has a command attributed to a beaten Blackout, which is especially odd as the command appears to be to blow up Blackout's beaten troops. (The panel also gives the impression it's to kill Blackout, but Overcast shoots ''behind'' him...)
*No one else is at the diner... ''including no staff''. So who opened up and sold Tom his coffee?
*Fracture appears to be pushing [[Incinerator (Movie)|Incinerator]] out of the way while telling ''Storm Surge'' to "move!" when Megatron attacks, even though he's at the other end of the panel; that line could've been meant for Overcast and his tactical command for her, except the posing is wrong for that. Either Davis-Hunt did a mix-up or Fracture just really likes Storm Surge.

[[Bumblebee (Animated)|Bumblebee]] tears through [[Detroit]], not noticing as [[Blackarachnia (Animated)|Blackarachnia]] tags him with a transmitter, and reaches the Autobot base in ''just'' under three minutes... to deliver a pizza to a happy [[Sari Sumdac (Animated)|Sari]]. As Bumblebee bigs up his speed, [[Prowl (Animated)|Prowl]] points he may be fast but he's also reckless and keeps going through red lights—taking shortcuts is a weakness, and Prowl bets even ''he'' could take Bumblebeee in a fair contest. Bumblebee thinks those are fightin' words, and Sari steps in to propose the solution—a race!

Blackarachnia, [[Lugnut (Animated)|Lugnut]] and [[Blitzwing (Animated)|Blitzwing]], meanwhile, are listening in thanks to Blackarachnia's transmitter. Lugnut wonders if they shouldn't just call in [[Megatron (Animated)|Megatron]] now they know where the Autobots will be, but Blackarachnia points out the Autobots always ''beat'' Megatron because of the '''Power of Teamwork (TM)'''. But if they separate an Autobot from the others, such as during a race, then he'd be vulnerable...

The next day, Sari introduces the Autobots to [[Crazy Coyote Canyon]], one of her dad's test sites, and location of the race. She's drawn an adorable little map (with a little drawing of Prowl marked "grumpy") and identifies the mazes, rock falls and caverns along the race track, as well as the fact radio reception is nil. [[Bulkhead (Animated)|Bulkhead]] eagerly asks if he can race too, to Prowl's confusion and Bumblebee's mocking, but [[Optimus Prime (Animated)|Daddy Optimus]] says ''anyone'' can race if they want to. (You can see how the strip'll end, can't you.)

The race begins, with Bumblebee and Prowl tearing off while Bulkhead, having ''forgotten to transform'', eats their dust. The Decepticons lie in wait, Lugnut whining at the idea he won't get to smash the 'bots, while Prowl and Bumblebee taunt each other. 'Bee even ''drives backwards'' just to show up Prowl... who just raises his front wheel and ''drives over'' him. Now far in the lead, Prowl muses reckless actions lead to sticky situations... as he drives into Blackarachnia's web cos he's not looking where he's going.

Bumblebee, figuring Prowl's cheating and has gone into a cave to use a shortcut, 'follows' him in and finds his team-mate a Decepticon prisoner! Unable to call for help, and with a happy Lugnut asking if he can hit the captive with a stick like a piñata, Bumblebee seems finished... until he sits down on the transmitter and finally notices it. That gives him an idea—and just as Lugnut finds a ''stalagmite'' to use as a stick, Bumblebee speeds in, slaps him on the butt, and runs out again.

Blitzwing and Lugnut follow, tracking the transmittter, and get hopelessly lost while Bumblebee (having looked at Sari's map) is able to double-back, much to Blackarachnia's confusion. As the other Cons come back, Bumblebee frees Prowl and both agree to do this the reckless way—driving up the cave wall towards the roof, making themselves an easy target... and the Decepticons realise too late that firing on the ceiling will cause it to cave in on them! The Autobots then head out to continue their race, only to find, yep, Bulkhead got to the finish while they were occupied. Bumblebee graciously accepts defeat, while Blackarachnia not-so-graciously screams in anger when she realises her transmitter's on Lugnut's rump...

==Synopsis==

[[Pyra Magna]] thinks back to when [[Optimus Prime (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Optimus Prime]] first came to [[Caminus]] and how, due to their past encounter with another Prime—[[Onyx Prime]]—she and the other [[Torchbearer]]s did not share the [[Mistress of Flame]]'s unquestioning acceptance of him. Consequently, the Torchbearers left her service and traveled to Cybertron, where an encounter with the [[Enigma of Combination]] turned them into a [[combiner]]. It is in their merged form, [[Victorion]], that the Torchbearers now fight against [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]], who seems strangely resistant to their gravity-manipulating powers...

In the ruins of [[Crystal City]], [[Shockwave (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Shockwave]] explains to [[Jetfire (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Jetfire]] and [[Aileron]] the task he needs assistance with: ''rescuing'' Optimus Prime from within the miniature singularity he threw him into only a short time ago! Prime's body has been destroyed by the singularity, compressed into "pure information," and it is that information they must extract. Fortunately, Prime himself is working toward a solution; within the singularity, he uses the power of the [[Matrix of Leadership]] to try and free himself and [[Bumblebee (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Bumblebee]]. The Matrix's light is able to penetrate the singularity and emerges from its darkness to be seen by the others outside, but as it does so, the Matrix itself disintegrates in Prime's hands, as the "information" that comprises it in this realm without physical matter ceases to be, "transmitted" away as light.

Nearby, [[Arcee (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Arcee]] has been taken prisoner by [[Liege Maximo]] and his [[Maximal]]s. Maximo remotely activates a crystal of [[Ore-4]] embedded in the ''[[Nemesis (BWII)|Nemesis]]'' hovering above, the gravity-controlling attributes of which begin levitating the Maximals and their captive up to the ship. Exploiting the weightless environment, Arcee jerks the chains binding her and whips the Maximals holding the other ends through the air. They collide with Maximo, who drops Arcee's sword, which she quickly recovers and hurls upwards at the Ore-4. The crystal shatters and the gravity field cuts out, sending Arcee and the Maximals all plummeting back toward the surface of the planet at a fatal velocity. Liege Maximo lands first, hitting the crane arm on Devastator's shoulder and dying on impact, his body ruptured in a grisly display. As the rest of the Maximals come raining down to meet similarly messy fates, Arcee is saved by Aileron, who uses her flying alternate mode to catch her and carry her safely down to the ground. With the destruction of the Ore-4, Victorion realizes that it wasn't Devastator's persistence that was allowing him to overcome her gravity powers; rather, the ore was generating a second gravity field that was counteracting hers. With its removal, Victorion shows no mercy; Devastator barely has time to process what's happening before he badly wounded by Victorion's powers. Aileron and Arcee watch as the combiner got hit, and celebrate in a most unexpected way: Arcee grabs Aileron, pulls her close, and [[kiss]]es her deeply as thanks for saving her life!

Elsewhere, as [[Starscream (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Starscream]] continues to address the [[Decepticon]]s, an enraged [[Soundwave (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Soundwave]] silently takes aim at the ex-ruler of Cybertron, knowing that, with Starscream as their leader, the Decepticon ideology of equality will be lost forever and they will simply become tools to fuel his ambition. [[Needlenose (G1)|Needlenose]] steps in to shove him, accusing him of being just as bad as Starscream, his first instinct being to take life to ensure he gets his way. Soundwave falters...

Spotting Jetfire down in Crystal City, Pyra leads the Torchbearers to him, where they find him with Shockwave. Learning that Shockwave and Onyx Prime are one and the same, Pyra lunges at him, determined to gain revenge for the lives he took in the past, but Shockwave brushes off her attacks and, holding her at gunpoint, "invites" her to join in the effort to rescue Optimus. It is Pyra, Shockwave reveals, that he really wants; the "help" he needed for Jetfire was simply to serve and bait to lure her in—for it is she that the Decepticon intends to serve as a host for Optimus's now-bodiless mind! Cracking open the vial of Cybertron's tainted [[energon]] that he has been carrying, Shockwave combines the poisoned fuel with the Matrix-light emanating from the singularity, opening up the pathway and allowing Prime and Bumblebee to escape back to reality. The two Autobots' consciousnesses flood into Pyra Magna's body, meeting with hers in a [[antespace|shared mindscape]] like that which forms in the mind of a combiner. Like a combiner, Pyra and Optimus find focus and unity in their desire to stop Shockwave, and with Pyra still in control of her body, she takes Shockwave down, ripping his gun arm off and aiming the weapon at him. She expects to hear the voices of Prime and Bumblebee telling her to stop, to take Shockwave alive, but hears no objections...

Starscream and the Decepticons watch as the surviving Maximals flee Cybertron aboard the ''Nemesis''. Concluding that Shockwave's mysterious plans have ended in failure, Starscream throws off politics once and for all and leads the Decepticons away to regroup in preparation for their next move. [[Swift (G1)|Swift]] cannot believe any of this, and seems ready to abandon her short-lived Decepticon allegiance—a decision Needlenose also reaches, leaving instead to be with people who actually care about him, like his brother [[Tracks (G1)|Tracks]]. [[Windblade (G1)|Windblade]] descends from the sky and lands by Soundwave's side, inviting him to join her as she rejoins the rest of the [[Council of Worlds|council]] now that it is clear he was not the one responsible for the bombing. Solemnly, Soundwave observes that, just because he was not guilty of ''that'' crime does not mean he has not made mistakes... and he fears that allowing Starscream to ''live'' may be his biggest one ever.

Realizing that, to be true to what she has long preached, she must do what is ''right'', not what will personally satisfy her, Pyra Magna spares Shockwave's life and brings him before the council, adamant that the truth of his nature be revealed to Cybertron, thereby exposing the great lie their civilization has been built on: that the Primes are just robots like any other, not divine. But this, it at last transpires, is what Shockwave has always ''desired''. His ancient plan, twelve million years in the making, has seen him ''create'' religion, so he could expose it as a fiction. He has robbed the Decepticons of their ideology, and he has even found a way to destroy the Matrix. Shockwave has rendered everything that anyone and everyone on Cybertron ever believed in ''meaningless''—and he has done so in preparation for the arrival of chaos, of an entity he calls the "Great Destroyer," which he says the Maximals have gone to join. Now, Shockwave shares a vision of this destroyer with Pyra, Optimus, and Bumblebee in their shared mind-space.

The ability to merge into Devastator was given to the Constructicons by [[Megatron (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Megatron]] around nine million years ago, not long after he brainwashed them into his loyal servants using the [[Robosmasher]]. Their former friend [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]] learned of this new ability first-hand when the Constructicons combined in order to hold Omega fast, so that the Robosmasher could be turned loose on his mind. Omega overpowered Devastator, however, and tore himself free of the Robosmasher, left not subservient to Megatron, but with a burning desire for vengeance against the Constructicons. {{storylink|The Secret of Omega Supreme (episode)|The Secret of Omega Supreme}}

Millions of years later, in [[1984]], having joined Megatron on [[Earth]], the Constructicons were charged with tunnelling under [[Ark (G1)|Autobot Headquarters]] in order to destroy [[Teletraan I]]. Confronted by the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] and forced back outside the volcano base, the Constructicons realized they were no match for their new opponents, and combined into Devastator to fight back—the first of several battles between the giant and the Dinobots that wound rage through the Transformers' time on Earth. The Dinobots fared poorly in their first meeting with Devastator, but before they fell, their fellow Autobots returned to lend them a hand. [[Hound (G1)|Hound]] distracted Devastator with a hologram of [[Halonix Maximus|a giant Autobot]], allowing [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]] to blast him dead center, causing him to disengage into the separate Constructicons. {{storylink|Heavy Metal War}}

Devastator was next called into action when the Decepticons were attempting to conquer and recreate [[New York City]], his height and power being required to stop a group of Autobots scaling the [[Empire State Building]], which had been seized by the Decepticons. With Optimus Prime playing Fay Wray to his [[King Kong]], Devastator climbed to the top of the building, fighting off attacks by remote controlled drone helicopters courtesy of [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] along the way. Once Devastator reached the peak, however, Optimus was able to gain remote control of his own dismembered gun-wielding arm, which had been mounted on top of the building as an artillery unit, and blasted Devastator off the building. After Megatron's [[Transfixatron]] scheme failed, Devastator was unleashed upon the Autobots, and began to mop the floor with them using finger lasers, optical tractor beams, and really heavy fists. The tide turned when Wheeljack and [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper]] used the Transfixatron against Devastator, successfully cancelling out the Constructicons' combined form. {{storylink|The Autobot Run}}

When Megatron attempted to tap the [[Earth's core]] to give the Decepticons a limitless supply of geothermal energy, Devastator defended the project from Autobot attack. To get around the giant combiner, [[Chip Chase]] and Wheeljack created [[dominator disk]]s which forced the Constructicons, and thus Devastator, into serving the Autobots. Unfortunately, Megatron had anticipated this plan and built a device to override the dominator disks. When he turned Devastator against the Autobots, Wheeljack turned up the power on the dominator discs, which only served to fry Devastator's [[Circuit (circuit)|logic circuits]] and sent him berserk, damaging the controls for Megatron's drill just as it was about to pierce the Earth's core. Working together, both factions restored Devastator to Megatron's control and sent him into the ground to take out the drill before it could destroy the Earth. Devastator was surprised by Megatron's cowardly absence after he returned surface, but merely believed Megatron left to plan their next attack. {{storylink|The Core}}

Allying with Autobots [[Grapple (G1)|Grapple]] and [[Hoist (G1)|Hoist]] to construct a [[Solar Power Tower]] of Grapple's design that they could then steal for the Decepticons, the Constructicons formed Devastator to install the sun-harnessing sphere component on top of the tower. After the villains took control of the tower, the other Autobots arrived to stop their plan and were confronted by Devastator once again, but managed to fell him by tricking him into collapsing the tower right on top of himself. {{storylink|The Master Builders (episode)|The Master Builders}}

Devastator got his first rematch with the Dinobots when the prehistoric anti-heroes attacked the Constructicons as they were unloading a supply of [[Cybertonium]] from the [[space bridge]]. Scavenger was caught off-guard by the Dinobots before he could join his team-mates in forming Devastator, and the one-armed giant was unable to prevent the Dinobots from transporting themselves to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Devastator had pulled himself together by the time [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike]] and [[Carly]] arrived, hot on the Dinobots' trail, but Carly's superior driving skills allowed her to navigate around his stomping feet and make it into the bridge as well. After the [[Triple Changer]]s temporarily disposed of Megatron and [[Starscream (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Starscream]], the Constructicons threw in with [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]] as the new Decepticon leader, building a maze around his base of operations. Unsurprisingly, Blitzwing refused to uphold his part of the bargain and make the Constructicons his leadership partners, so the enraged team formed Devastator to improve their bargaining posture. Megatron soon returned and put Blitzwing and [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] in their place, but Devastator did not fall in line so easily, and continued his attack against them all, forcing all the in-fighting Decepticons to team up to eventually take him down. {{storylink|Triple Takeover}} Betrayals remained the order of the day when Devastator next saw combat, called up by Megatron to deal with another plot by Starscream and his new troops, the [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons]]. Devastator played a key role in the [[Battle of Autobot City|battle]] of [[Autobot City (G1)|Autobot City]] in the year 2005, smashing the artillery that lined the city and, after an all-night siege, successfully breaching its walls with his prodigious strength. Before he could progress inside the city itself, though, his old foes the Dinobots arrived to halt his progress, dropping on him from an incoming shuttle. Devastator kicked [[Grimlock (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Grimlock]] out of the air, slammed [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]] and hurled him aside, but was brought low by [[Slag (G1)|Slag]], who pushed him through a wall. Even from this position, though, Devastator managed to take out [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]] immediately after, as he dodged an attack from the flying Dinobot and caused some rubble to collapse on him. The battle was brought to an end when Megatron was defeated and the Decepticons retreated from Earth aboard Astrotrain, arguing amongst themselves who would lead them now. Following the battle with [[Unicron]], the defeated Decepticons were exiled to the burnt-out world of [[Chaar]], where they scraped by on diminishing amounst of [[energon]]. When Astrotrain returned from an energy run, the Constructicons fought over the few scraps of energon he brought back, but banded together to form Devastator to make sure Astrotrain couldn't take any for himself (though Bonecrusher lacked the energy to hold on to his teammates). The Constructicons were among the Decepticon warriors assembled by Megatron as he re-established his power base on Earth 15 years after the fall of [[Unicron]]. For some unexplained reason, Hook and Mixmaster were no longer part of the group, replaced by a new Constructicon named [[Hightower (Classics)|Hightower]]. As a result, Devastator's combination was significantly altered.

The giant Decepticon warrior was assembled to battle the Autobots in the Southern Hemisphere, when both groups were seeking out the source of a new set of energy readings. Devastator confronted the Dinobot [[Grimlock (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Grimlock]], and the force of their battle was enough to cause the landscape to cave in, revealing the caverns below. The Devastator was "phase 2" of Megatron's latest plot to take over the Earth. After having taken millions of humans hostage, Megatron ordered the Constructicons to combine. The Devastator then proceeded to overpower everything the Autobots threw at him... until the Dinobots arrived. Though The Devastator mocked the Dinobots' slow pace at first, his mockery was cut short by Swoop blasting him at point blank range, killing Hook and Scrapper in the process. Happening upon [[Sunstreaker (G1)|Sunstreaker]] admiring his reflection in a pond, Devastator moved in to capture the vain Autobot. The task shortly accomplished despite Sunstreaker attempting to fight back, Devastator brought him to Decepticon headquarters. After locking Sunstreaker in a prison cell, Devastator split up into his component pieces.

The Constructicons once more joined together to form Devastator when a rescue party stormed Decepticon headquarters to rescue Sunstreaker. Devastator made short work of [[Slag (G1)|Slag]], [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]] and [[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]] as well, and stuffed them in Sunstreaker's holding cell.

The Constructicons merged once more to view an Autobot peace offering; Optimus and his troops had left before the Decepticons' headquarters a life-size statue of Devastator. Accompanying the statue was a letter from Optimus Prime, explaining that the effigy was meant as a symbol of the Autobots' surrender. The rest of the Decepticons cheered as Devastator neared the statue to contemplate it. But the moment the giant Decepticon touched the statue, an ambush part of Autobots burst forth from within it. Each Autobot fired at Devastator from a different side. This resulted in Devastator's attention to be so thoroughly divided that his components transformed back into their individual selves. However, [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]] managed to convince the Constructicons to side with the [[Ultracon]]s, and they accompanied him when he made his push to take the [[Tagan Heights]], forming Devastator to battle the [[Wrecker]]s. Hopelessly outmatched by the giant, the Wreckers were bailed out when the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]] chose to disobey the accord and aid them, merging into Defensor to give Devastator a run for his money. {{storylink|Escalation}} The resultant clash of titans destabilized the surrounding area, but in the end, Defensor realized he couldn't beat Devastator with strength. The resultant Devastator suffered from a "dead leg" that he could not move properly, allowing the Autobots to outrun him, and his other leg was also soon taken out of the equation when [[Sunstreaker (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Sunstreaker]] tricked the giant into stomping on his explosive-laden wheelchair. The defeat of D-Void was followed by the reversion of Cybertron into a primordial wilderness into which Megatron fled, leaving the leaderless Decepticons—the Constructicons among them—to live in the rebuilt [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]], under the unstable governance of Bumblebee. Faking both his own death and those of the Constructicons, {{storylink|Devisive}} Bombshell withdrew them all to Prowl's [[Black Room]], where the Constructicons' bodies were rebuilt to the specifications of a new, modular Devastator design that moved Hook to Scrapper's old position as right leg, and would allow others built with compatible forms to serve as the combiner's head. The intent was for Megatron himself to become Devastator's new head, but rather than risk his own mind and body in a test run, it was arranged for the mind-controlled Prowl to become part of Devastator first, to ensure the process worked.

When Megatron returned to Iacon and his plan went into action, the Constructicons and Prowl combined into the new and improved Devastator, under the complete control of Bombshell via Prowl. Under Megatron's orders, the revamped Devastator proceeded to destroy Autobot High Command with the sweep of a hand. {{storylink|Before the Dawn}} The giant then continued on to the Iacon med-centre, which he also devastated, before menacing the Autobots, NAILs, and disillusioned Decepticons trying to defend it. Superion arrived from Cybertron's wilderness and proceeded to engage Devastator in combat, and two giants' battle continued for some time until, elsewhere, Bombshell was stabbed through the head by [[Arcee (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Arcee]]. With his controlling influence gone, Devastator fell into a stupor, just as Prowl—his mind still partially aware within the combiner—turned his thoughts to the one thing he and the five Constructicons agreed on: a hatred of Spike Witwicky. This unifying idea caused Devastator to reawaken, now of one mind, and with just one goal: to never be controlled ever again. With that, Devastator grabbed Superion, tore the combined Autobot in half, {{storylink|Plan for Everything}} and proceeded to destroy everything he saw. However, the giant was surprised when [[Ironhide (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Ironhide]] got a boost up onto his shoulders and began to call out to Prowl inside his mind. After some well-placed punches and a speech from the Autobot veteran on the topic of free will and personal change, Prowl wrestled enough control to cause Devastator to tear off his own head, spontaneously un-combining the gestalt. Impressed by certain nasty things they'd seen in Prowl's memories during their merging of minds, the Constructicons left the Decepticons to befriend their new idol. {{storylink|Second Exodus}} When Shockwave put into motion a plan to collapse the universe into Cybertron, the Constructicons convinced a reluctant Prowl they had to form Devastator again to keep [[Monstructor (G1)|Monstructor]] off of [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]]. {{storylink|Black Planet: Dark Cybertron Chapter 11|Black Planet}} Devastator grappled with his crazed forebear until the ''[[Lost Light]]'' joined the fight and rammed the original combiner into his component pieces. {{storylink|...And the Damage Done: Dark Cybertron Finale|...And the Damage Done}} Prowl would subsequently learn to see Devastator as a valuable resource, willingly combining with the Constructicons during a battle with the Decepticons on Earth six months later {{storylink|Earthfall Part 2: Detonation Boulevard|Detonation Boulevard}} as part of a plan to expose the reappearance of Cybertronians on Earth—specifically, to make things difficult for the [[Earth Defense Command]] and their Decepticon allies. On Earth, the Autobots turned their attention to searching for the lost [[Enigma of Combination]]. Prowl formed a temporary truce with Spike Witwicky to help infiltrate [[G.B. Blackrock|Garrison Blackrock]]'s [[Onyx]] facility, and deployed Devastator to spearhead the attack. {{storylink|Onyx Interface Part Three: ONoffON|ONoffON}} Although Devastator proved effective at tearing the building apart and temporarily secured the Enigma, his loathing of Spike - the man who had killed him once before - ultimately drove the combiner berserk and ruined the mission. Arcee finally managed to talk Devastator down and force him to split apart. Prowl blamed the Constructicons for taking over their combined body, although they maintained that Devastator couldn't be controlled like that and that all of them were equally responsible for the outburst. {{storylink|The Onyx Interface Conclusion: The Obliterati}} On Cybertron, Starscream confronted Optimus over "his" personal combiner, using it as leverage so that he could accelerate Superion's own repairs. {{storylink|First Contact (IDW)|First Contact}}

After Prowl learned that Starscream was planning to absorb [[Caminus]] into the new "[[Council of Worlds]]", he and the Constructicons hijacked the Ark's new [[Space bridge|spacebridge]] to travel to Metroplex, intending to tear the spacebridge apart and cut Cybertron off from the rest of the galaxy. {{storylink|The Possible Light}} Combined once more, Devastator issued an ultimatum to the assembled Cybertronians and Camiens, but was interrupted by the new and improved Superion. Although Superion proved to be a nimble and clever fighter, Devastator was able to overpower him with brute force, and dragged his defeated foe back through the space bridge to Cybertron. He was briefly distraced by an Autobot-Decepticon alliance, allowing Starscream to use the Enigma on a group of bystanders and create Defensor. Defensor joined forces with Superion and the duo finally managed to overcome Devastator. {{storylink|Mistakes and Mayhem}}

Starscream sought to turn Devastator's power to his own end, and used the Enigma to rebuild Devastator once more. This new configuration incorporated Starscream's lackey [[Scoop (G1)|Scoop]] as Devastator's new right leg, omitting Prowl and returning the other Constructicons to their original configurations. Scoop's religious fanaticism and devotion to his "Chosen One" allowed him to override the other members of the team and force Devastator to obey Starscream's commands. His first mission was to stop Menasor from going on yet another rampage on Caminus. Unfortunately, Defensor misread the situation and attacked Devastator, sparking a four-way brawl between all of the combiners. Metroplex's malfunctioning space bridge sent the quartet tumbling onto an alien world, and things only escalated when the newly-born [[Optimus Maximus (G1)|Optimus Maximus]], under the control of Prowl, stepped in to intervene. {{storylink|You, Me, and the Universe}} Devastator was furious at Prowl for "abandoning" him, and this anger allowed Devastator to ignore Scoop's input and sock Optimus Maximus hard enough to knock him for a loop. Devastator, now completely out of control, teamed up with Menasor in a fight that spanned the colony worlds. Devastator had the upper hand as he pummeled him on [[Velocitron]], but he was restrained by Superion and Defensor before he could deliver a finishing blow. Devastator retaliated by kicking Optimus clear through the space bridge and onto [[Vigilem|Carcer]], but his enemy quickly got his act together and dove back through the portal. Optimus's counterattack threw the Constructicons off balance and allowed all three Autobot combiners to pile onto him, tearing him into his components. Although Scoop apologized for losing control, he and the Constructicons were arrested by the [[Badgeless]] and placed back into Starscream's custody. {{storylink|All That Remains}} {{storylink|The Will of the Few}}

In the aftermath, Starscream allowed Devastator to recombine so that Superion could safely extricate the Constructicons off of Cybertron. On Earth, [[Scarlett]] and [[Joe Colton (Dire Wraith)|Joe Colton]] remembered Devastator's attack on New York as they discussed the threat that Cybertronians posed. {{storylink|Secret Raiders: A Revolution Prelude|Secret Raiders}}

Seeking a new edge against a recently-arrived fleet of undead [[Titan (group)|Titan]]s, Starscream — hoping to seize control of the Titan [[Vigilem|Carcer]] — used Devastator to launch a full-on attack on the Titan-ship, a distraction while Windblade and a small insertion team made their way inside. {{storylink|Desperate Times}} Devastator came up against [[Strika (BM)|Strika]], who managed to catch one of his punches and stop the combiner dead in his tracks. {{storylink|Desperate Measures (Till All Are One)|Desperate Measures}} When [[Windblade (G1)|Windblade]] managed to puppeteer the Titan's motor functions, she grabbed Devastator and hurled him at an undead Titan. Devastator managed to reorient himself and land feetfirst upon his target, the impact taking it out of the fight. {{storylink|Rubicon}}

When a [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]] controlled [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]] marched towards [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]] (an average day on Cybertron), [[Starscream (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Starscream]] deployed Devastator to slow the [[Titan (group)|Titan]]'s approach. Devastator fared rather poorly, being burned by the beast's atomic breath before stepped on and crunched in the monster's jaws. After that he called it quits for the day but his valiant effort in battle convinced Trypticon to spare the combiner's life. {{storylink|The Transformers: Salvation|Salvation}}
