'''Devastator''' is an immensely powerful warrior, and in that sense the combination of the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]] into a merged being is a huge success. Mentally, on the other hand, he's very much less than the sum of his parts. Devastator's primitive psyche is limited to only the thoughts and actions on which all his components can agree, which results in raging bouts of destructive fury. Given the sheer power Devastator brings to these rages, [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] has no complaints.

As an [[Action Master]], he is [[Action Master partner|partnered]] with [[Scorpulator]].

Normally he is composed of the six robots...

The ability to merge into Devastator was given to the Constructicons by [[Megatron (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Megatron]] around nine million years ago, not long after he brainwashed them into his loyal servants using the [[Robo-Smasher]]. Their former friend [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]] learned of this new ability first-hand when the Constructicons combined in order to hold Omega fast, so that the Robo-Smasher could be turned loose on his mind. Omega overpowered Devastator, however, and tore himself free of the Robo-Smasher, left not subservient to Megatron, but with a burning desire for vengeance against the Constructicons. {{storylink|The Secret of Omega Supreme}}

Millions of years later, in [[1984]], having joined Megatron on [[Earth]], the Constructicons were charged with tunnelling under [[Ark (G1)|Autobot Headmasters]] in order to destroy [[Teletraan I (G1)|Teletraan I]]. Confronted by the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] and forced back outside the volcano base, the Constructicons realized they were no match for their new opponents, and combined into Devastator to fight back—the first of several battles between the giant and the Dinobots that wound rage through the Transformers' time on Earth. The Dinobots fared poorly in their first meeting with Devastator, but before they fell, their fellow Autobots returned to lend them a hand. [[Hound (G1)|Hound]] distracted Devastator with a hologram of [[Halonix Maximus|a giant Autobot]], allowing [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]] to blast him dead center, causing him to disengage into the separate Constructicons. {{storylink|Heavy Metal War}}

Devastator was next called into action when the Decepticons were attempting to conquer and recreate [[New York City]], his height and power being required to stop a group of Autobots scaling the [[Empire State Building]], which had been seized by the Decepticons. With Optimus Prime playing Fay Wray to his [[King Kong]], Devastator climbed to the top of the building, fighting off attacks by remote controlled drone helicopters courtesy of [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] along the way. Once Devastator reached the peak, however, Optimus was able to gain remote control of his own dismembered gun-wielding arm, which had been mounted on top of the building as an artillery unit, and blasted Devastator off the building. Plummeting back to street-level, the combiner split apart on impact. {{storylink|City of Steel}}

After Megatron's [[Transfixatron]] scheme failed, Devastator was unleashed upon the Autobots, and began to mop the floor with them using finger lasers, optical tractor beams, and really heavy fists. The tide turned when Wheeljack and [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper]] used the Transfixatron against Devastator, successfully cancelling out the Constructicons' combined form. {{storylink|The Autobot Run}}

When Megatron attempted to tap the Earth's core to give the Decepticons a limitless supply of geothermal energy, Devastator defended the project from Autobot attack. To get around the giant combiner, [[Chip Chase]] and Wheeljack created [[dominator disc]]s which forced the Constructicons, and thus Devastator, into serving the Autobots. Unfortunately, Megatron had anticipated this plan and built a device to override the dominator discs. When he turned Devastator against the Autobots, Wheeljack turned up the power on the dominator discs, which only served to fry Devastator's [[Circuits|logic circuits]] and sent him berserk, damaging the controls for Megatron's drill just as it was about to pierce the Earth's core. Working together, both factions restored Devastator to Megatron's control and sent him into the ground to take out the drill before it could destroy the Earth. Devastator was surprised by Megatron's cowardly absence after he returned surface, but merely believed Megatron left to plan their next attack. {{storylink|The Core}}

Allying with Autobots [[Grapple (G1)|Grapple]] and [[Hoist (G1)|Hoist]] to construct a [[Solar Power Tower]] of Grapple's design that they could then steal for the Decepticons, the Constructicons formed Devastator to install the sun-harnessing sphere component on top of the tower. After the villains took control of the tower, the other Autobots arrived to stop their plan and were confronted by Devastator once again, but managed to fell him by tricking him into collapsing the tower right on top of himself. {{storylink|The Master Builders}}

Devastator got his first rematch with the Dinobots when the prehistoric anti-heroes attacked the Constructicons as they were unloading a supply of [[Cybertonium]] from the [[space bridge]]. Scavenger was caught off-guard by the Dinobots before he could join his team-mates in forming Devastator, and the one-armed giant was unable to prevent the Dinobots from transporting themselves to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Devastator had pulled himself together by the time [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike]] and [[Carly]] arrived, hot on the Dinobots' trail, but Carly's superior driving skills allowed her to navigate around his stomping feet and make it into the bridge as well. After the [[Triple Changer]]s temporarily disposed of Megatron and [[Starscream (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Starscream]], the Constructicons threw in with [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]] as the new Decepticon leader, building a maze around his base of operations. Unsurprisingly, Blitzwing refused to uphold his part of the bargain and make the Constructicons his leadership partners, so the enraged team formed Devastator to improve their bargaining posture. Megatron soon returned and put Blitzwing and [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] in their place, but Devastator did not fall in line so easily, and continued his attack against them all, forcing all the in-fighting Decepticons to team up to eventually take him down. {{storylink|Triple Takeover}} Betrayals remained the order of the day when Devastator next saw combat, called up by Megatron to deal with another plot by Starscream and his new troops, the [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons]]. Devastator played a key role in the [[Battle of Autobot City|battle]] of [[Autobot City (G1)|Autobot City]] in the year 2005, smashing the artillery that lined the city and, after an all-night siege, successfully breaching its walls with his prodigious strength. Before he could progress inside the city itself, though, his old foes the Dinobots arrived to halt his progress, dropping on him from an incoming shuttle. Devastator kicked [[Grimlock (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Grimlock]] out of the air, slammed [[Sludge (G1)|Sludge]] and hurled him aside, but was brought low by [[Slag (G1)|Slag]], who pushed him through a wall. Even from this position, though, Devastator managed to take out [[Swoop (G1)|Swoop]] immediately after, as he dodged an attack from the flying Dinobot and caused some rubble to collapse on him. The battle was brought to an end when Megatron was defeated and the Decepticons retreated from Earth aboard Astrotrain, arguing amongst themselves who would lead them now. Following the battle with [[Unicron]], the defeated Decepticons were exiled to the burnt-out world of [[Chaar]], where they scraped by on diminishing amounst of [[energon]]. When Astrotrain returned from an energy run, the Constructicons fought over the few scraps of energon he brought back, but banded together to form Devastator to make sure Astrotrain couldn't take any for himself (though Bonecrusher lacked the energy to hold on to his teammates). Just as Devastator was about to tuck into his hard-won [[energon cube]], [[Menasor (G1)|Menasor]] hacked him apart with his sword and drove the Constructicons off. {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 1}}

In [[2006]], the Constructicons formed Devastator when fighting the Autobots on an asteroid [[Galvatron (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Galvatron]] was trying to turn into a mobile weapon, but he was flattened when a cunning [[Broadside (G1)|Broadside]] transformed to aircraft carrier mode in mid-air and landed directly on top of him. Devastator once faced his old nemesis Omega Supreme during the midst of [[:File:StudioOxCybertronBattleCons.jpg|another, larger battle]] on Cybertron. {{storylink|Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers (story page)|Story page # unknown}} At a presumably later date, Devastator clashed with Optimus Prime, Wheeljack, [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]] and [[Trailbreaker (G1)|Trailbreaker]] in... space, or something? Well, Cybertron was in the background, so it was probably space. The battle was so great that Prime even needed to call in the extra firepower of his [[Combat Deck (G1)|Combat Deck]], which flew through space (or whatever) to join the fight. Later, Devastator and Menasor were making trouble for the Autobots, but were dealt with by the Autobots' newest combiner warrior, [[Defensor (G1)|Defensor]]. The [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobot]] gestalt took Devastator out by launching his right arm—[[Streetwise (G1)|Streetwise]]—at him, who transformed to robot mode mid-flight and shattered the Decepticon giant's chestplate with his mighty right hand. When [[Superion (G1)|Superion]] arrived to stop the Decepticons, the Constructicons merged into Devastator and announced that he and Trypticon would take on the Autobot combiner (overkill much?). One element required for Violen Jiger's plan was the mysterious life-giving [[Zodiac]], hidden somewhere on Earth. Devastator accompanied [[King Poseidon]], [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]] and [[Predaking (G1)|Predaking]] to the planet, cutting a swathe of destruction through the cities of Earth as they converged on [[Mount Fuji]], where the Zodiac was believed to rest. Arriving at the mountain, the four generals were confronted by a small army of Autobot Micromasters, which prompted nothing but laughter from the villains... until a rock clonked Devastator on the head, hurled by the newly-arrived Autobot [[Powered Master]]s [[Dai Atlas (Zone)|Dai Atlas]] and [[Sonic Bomber]]. As battle erupted, Devastator broke away, using his drill to burrow into the Earth in hopes of locating the subterranean hiding place of the Zodiac, but Dai Atlas pursued him into the planet's depths. Dispatched to Earth with Trypticon, Predaking and King Poseidon by Violen Jiger to acquire the Zodiac, Devastator destroyed the [[World Trade Center]] while searching the planet for the mysterious energy source. By the time Devastator arrived in Japan, Trypticon and Predaking were already embroiled in battle with Dai Atlas and Sonic Bomber; he burst up out of the ground while Dai Atlas was grappling with Predaking and attempted to run him through with his drill, but was stopped by a barrage of missiles from the acting Autobot leader. Predaking ordered him away to seek the Zodiac, and Devastator obeyed, drilling down into the Earth, but Dai Atlas pursued, following Devastator into the subterranean cavern in which the Zodiac rested. Devastator snatched the enigmatic orb and fled, handing it off to King Poseidon before turning back to resume his battle with Dai Atlas, whom the [[Seacon (G1)|Seacon]] combiner had restrained with a chain. No sooner had the Constructicons been created—by [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]], on Earth, using the power of the [[Matrix of Leadership|Creation Matrix]] and the facilities of [[Blackrock Aerospace Assembly Plant Number One]]—than they were dispatched on their first mission to construct a massive communications dish that would allow [[Soundwave (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Soundwave]] to broadcast a message to long-lost Cybertron. When the dish came under attack by a squad of Autobots, the Constructicons merged to form Devastator for the first time, much to the surprise of the attacking Autobots. The titan shrugged off the Autobots' attacks, even including [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]]'s liquid nitrogen blasts, but things took a turn for the worse when Soundwave, wired into the dish and unable to defend himself, made the mistake of calling on Devastator to destroy a ''specific'' Autobot—[[Huffer (G1)|Huffer]], who had slipped close to the dish in the chaos. The dull-witted Devastator struggled to process this precise instruction, taking out each Autobot one after the other until he found the one that Soundwave had been talking about; fortunately for the Decepticons, Huffer's own indecision gave Soundwave time to successfully transmit his message. He accepted with the caveat that the process was likely to take a ''very'' long time. {{storylink|Shockwaves}} Indeed, it would be millions of years before [[Megatron (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Megatron]] had his gestalt warrior; in the year that followed the thwarting of the [[Expansion]], the scientifically-minded [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticon]] [[Bombshell (G1)|Bombshell]] finished Shockwave's work, successfully granting the Constructicons the ability to combine into Devastator. Several years later, [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike Witwicky]] tracked Scrapper down and killed him to make sure Devastator could never be formed again. {{storylink|Scrapper (issue)|Scrapper}} This did not prove as permanent a solution as first appeared, however: after the Decepticons liberated Scrapper's body from [[Skywatch]] {{storylink|Revenge of the Decepticons Part 1: The Demolished Man|The Demolished Man}} they were summoned back to Cybertron for a battle with the Autobots, where the Constructicons proved capable of combining with Scrapper's corpse. The resultant Devastator suffered from a "dead leg" that he could not move properly, allowing the Autobots to outrun him, and his other leg was also soon taken out of the equation when [[Sunstreaker (G1)|Sunstreaker]] tricked the giant into stomping on his explosive-laden wheelchair. Just as the giant was about to crush him with his fists instead, he was mentally taken over by [[D-Void]] and forced to merge with all other Decepticons and [[Galvatron (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Galvatron]]'s [[Sweep]] army to form the "[[Deceptigod]]". {{storylink|Chaos Part Three: Kings}}

The defeat of D-Void was followed by the reversion of Cybertron into a primordial wilderness into which Megatron fled, leaving the leaderless Decepticons—the Constructicons among them—to live in the rebuilt [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]], under the unstable governance of Bumblebee. Megatron soon discovered that the combination of [[Ultra-Energon|Ore-13]] and [[space bridge]] technology in his new body allowed him to tap the energies from within Cybertron that D-Void had used to create the Deceptigod, and in this force's ability to subjugate individual will and facilitate combination, he saw the means to finally perfect the combination process. {{storylink|Before the Dawn}} [[File:IDWRID14 prowlstator.jpg|thumb|230px|"Nothing is more of a prick than Devastator, nothing!"]] Megatron tested his theories upon the Aerialbots, fusing them into "The Superion", and also secretly conspired with several of the Decepticons in Iacon, allowing Bombshell to experiment with the energies, with which he seized control of the mind of the Autobot police officer [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]]. Faking both his own death and those of the Constructicons, {{storylink|Devisive}} Bombshell withdrew them all to Prowl's [[Black Room]], where the Constructicons' bodies were rebuilt to the specifications of a new, modular Devastator design that moved Hook to Scrapper's old position as right leg, and would allow others built with compatible forms to serve as the combiner's head. The intent was for Megatron himself to become Devastator's new head, but rather than risk his own mind and body in a test run, it was arranged for the mind-controlled Prowl to become part of Devastator first, to ensure the process worked.

When Megatron returned to Iacon and his plan went into action, the Constructicons and Prowl combined into the new and improved Devastator, under the complete control of Bombshell via Prowl. Under Megatron's orders, the revamped Devastator proceeded to destroy Autobot High Command with the sweep of a hand. {{storylink|Before the Dawn}} The giant then continued on to the Iacon med-centre, which he also devastated, before menacing the Autobots, NAILs, and disillusioned Decepticons trying to defend it. Superion arrived from Cybertron's wilderness and proceeded to engage Devastator in combat, and two giants' battle continued for some time until, elsewhere, Bombshell was stabbed through the head by [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]]. With his controlling influence gone, Devastator fell into a stupor, just as Prowl—his mind still partially aware within the combiner—turned his thoughts to the one thing he and the five Constructicons agreed on: a hatred of Spike Witwicky. This unifying idea caused Devastator to reawaken, now of one mind, and with just one goal: to never be controlled ever again. With that, Devastator grabbed Superion, tore the combined Autobot in half, {{storylink|Plan for Everything}} and proceeded to destroy everything he saw. Their former friend [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]] learned of this new ability first-hand when the Constructicons combined in order to hold Omega fast, so that the Robo-Smasher could be turned loose on his mind. Millions of years later, in [[1984]], having joined Megatron on [[Earth]], the Constructicons were charged with tunnelling under [[Ark (G1)|Autobot Headmasters]] in order to destroy [[Teletraan I (G1)|Teletraan I]]. Confronted by the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] and forced back outside the volcano base, the Constructicons realized they were no match for their new opponents, and combined into Devastator to fight back—the first of several battles between the giant and the Dinobots that wound rage through the Transformers' time on Earth. The Dinobots fared poorly in their first meeting with Devastator, but before they fell, their fellow Autobots returned to lend them a hand. Devastator was next called into action when the Decepticons were attempting to conquer and recreate [[New York City]], his height and power being required to stop a group of Autobots scaling the [[Empire State Building]], which had been seized by the Decepticons. With Optimus Prime playing Fay Wray to his [[King Kong]], Devastator climbed to the top of the building, fighting off attacks by remote controlled drone helicopters courtesy of [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] along the way. Once Devastator reached the peak, however, Optimus was able to gain remote control of his own dismembered gun-wielding arm, which had been mounted on top of the building as an artillery unit, and blasted Devastator off the building. After Megatron's [[Transfixatron]] scheme failed, Devastator was unleashed upon the Autobots, and began to mop the floor with them using finger lasers, optical tractor beams, and really heavy fists. When Megatron attempted to tap the Earth's core to give the Decepticons a limitless supply of geothermal energy, Devastator defended the project from Autobot attack. To get around the giant combiner, [[Chip Chase]] and Wheeljack created [[dominator disc]]s which forced the Constructicons, and thus Devastator, into serving the Autobots. Unfortunately, Megatron had anticipated this plan and built a device to override the dominator discs. When he turned Devastator against the Autobots, Wheeljack turned up the power on the dominator discs, which only served to fry Devastator's [[Circuits|logic circuits]] and sent him berserk, damaging the controls for Megatron's drill just as it was about to pierce the Earth's core. Working together, both factions restored Devastator to Megatron's control and sent him into the ground to take out the drill before it could destroy the Earth. When Astrotrain returned from an energy run, the Constructicons fought over the few scraps of energon he brought back, but banded together to form Devastator to make sure Astrotrain couldn't take any for himself (though Bonecrusher lacked the energy to hold on to his teammates). Devastator confronted the Dinobot [[Grimlock (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Grimlock]], and the force of their battle was enough to cause the landscape to cave in, revealing the caverns below. During the [[Dark Ages]], between 7.4 and 6.5 million years ago, when the Decepticons and Autobots fractured into several smaller factions, the [[Crisis Intervention Accord]] was signed, ruling the [[Special Teams]] non-aligned. However, [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]] managed to convince the Constructicons to side with the [[Ultracon]]s, and they accompanied him when he made his push to take the [[Tagan Heights]], forming Devastator to battle the [[Wrecker]]s. Hopelessly outmatched by the giant, the Wreckers were bailed out when the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]] chose to disobey the accord and aid them, merging into Defensor to give Devastator a run for his money. {{storylink|Escalation}} The resultant clash of titans destabilized the surrounding area, but in the end, Defensor realized he couldn't beat Devastator with strength. During the fight, the Keepers managed to trap Devastator and his massive comrade [[Omega Sentinel (G1)|Omega Sentinel]] outside a protective field, while they engaged the smaller Transformers inside. This eventually meant that Devastator was too far away to be protected by Optimus Prime's [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]]-constructed shields when the nuclear missiles finally struck. The defeat of D-Void was followed by the reversion of Cybertron into a primordial wilderness into which Megatron fled, leaving the leaderless Decepticons—the Constructicons among them—to live in the rebuilt [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]], under the unstable governance of Bumblebee. When Megatron returned to Iacon and his plan went into action, the Constructicons and Prowl combined into the new and improved Devastator, under the complete control of Bombshell via Prowl. Under Megatron's orders, the revamped Devastator proceeded to destroy Autobot High Command with the sweep of a hand. {{storylink|Before the Dawn}} The giant then continued on to the Iacon med-centre, which he also devastated, before menacing the Autobots, NAILs, and disillusioned Decepticons trying to defend it. Superion arrived from Cybertron's wilderness and proceeded to engage Devastator in combat, and two giants' battle continued for some time until, elsewhere, Bombshell was stabbed through the head by [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]]. With his controlling influence gone, Devastator fell into a stupor, just as Prowl—his mind still partially aware within the combiner—turned his thoughts to the one thing he and the five Constructicons agreed on: a hatred of Spike Witwicky. This unifying idea caused Devastator to reawaken, now of one mind, and with just one goal: to never be controlled ever again. During the final days of the war, Brawl served aboard a Decepticon starship under [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]], who was seeking the [[Dark Energon]] guarded by the neutral Sky Commander [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]]. He was part of the bridge crew, along with [[Barricade (WFC)|Barricade]] as Megatron laid siege to the orbiting station where Starscream hid the supply of Dark Energon. After Megatron gained entry to the station (by ramming his starship into it, no less), Brawl and Barricade then helped Megatron fight his way into the station, past Starscream's soldiers. Starscream's constant taunting irritated Brawl, to the point he requested permission to rip off Starscream's head. He even said please. The Decepticons eventually reached the supply of Dark Energon and prevented Starscream from destroying it, and as his reward, Brawl was infused with the corrupted Energon's power by Megatron.

Later, during the Decepticon assault on the Autobot capital of Iacon, Brawl had the honour of commanding and spearheading the ground attack while Starscream (his head sadly still attached) commanded the aerial forces and Megatron personally led a small strikeforce into the heart of the city. Megatron's team eventually reunited with Brawl and his forces outside the Iacon Vaults, where Autobot leader [[Sentinel Zeta Prime]] had taken refuge. Despite being heavily out-numbered (and being dogpiled by numerous Autobots), Brawl held out until Megatron, [[Breakdown (WFC)|Breakdown]] and [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]] arrived to assist. Brawl complained about Starscream's refusal to give his ground troops air support, but Megatron wasn't interested in excuses.

When even Megatron's Dark Energon powers failed to open the massive doors to the Vaults, the enraged Decepticon ordered a bombing run. Brawl attempted to protest, since the Autobots' anti-aircraft defenses were still active, but Megatron would not be convinced. After the bombing attempt failed miserably, Brawl tactfully suggested they first take the anti-aircraft guns in order to guarantee success. Megatron noted this was 'an excellent suggestion' and commanded him to see to it.

The Decepticons successfully disabled the anti-aircraft guns and Brawl once again called down a bombing run, only to be bluntly refused by Starscream. Taking issue with Starscream referring to the bombers as 'his ships', Megatron cut in and ensured the bombing run would take place. However, Brawl and his comrades now had to hold off a massive Autobot counterattack until the bombers arrived. Despite fighting and killing numerous Autobots (including several Heavy Soldiers and Aerialbots), it seemed as though the Decepticons would be overwhelmed by nothing less than the entire Autobot army. Brawl, keeping track of the bombers' progress, started counting down the last few seconds verbally, and the Decepticons watched as the Autobots realized their doom, too late to retreat to safety. Megatron ordered Brawl to hold his position while he led his team to 'discuss' matters with Zeta Prime.

Brawl followed his orders to hold his ground to the letter. In fact, while Megatron, Breakdown and Soundwave were being attacked by [[Destroyer (WFC)|a huge Autobot]], Brawl watched, no doubt confident that his master would be victorious.

He probably wasn't too happy when Starscream claimed leadership when Megatron was apparently killed by a [[Omega Supreme (WFC)|huge heavily-armed ship]]. That was fixed soon enough, though.

They began a mission to assault an Autobot tanker, loaded with Energon the Autobots had managed to steal from the Decepticons. [[Onslaught (WFC)|Onslaught]]'s plan called for the team to split up, as [[Swindle (FOC)|Swindle]] eliminated enemy scouts, [[Blast Off (FOC)|Blast Off]] and [[Vortex (FOC)|Vortex]] would clear a path for Brawl to arrive on a transport and destroy the supports to the bridge the tanker was headed for, diverting it into an ambush led by Starscream. Once the path was clear, Brawl headed in, but his artillery was unable to penetrate the shields around the bridge's supports. Vortex brought down the shields on the two side supports for him though the bridge remained standing, and Brawl had to blast a hole in the central support so Vortex could head in and take it out with a [[detpak]].

After Swindle disabled the tanker's anti-air guns, the Combaticons merged into [[Bruticus (WFC)|Bruticus]] so they could smash through the rest of the defenses surrounding the bridge. They disassembled to take the bridge itself, but the tanker was so badly damaged, they could do little more than attempt to guide its crash landing. Following the crash, Brawl was arrested alongside his teammates by Starscream's henchmen.

Brawl was later released alongside everyone else who opposed Starscream after Megatron was resurrected by Soundwave. The violet-glowing Dark Energon supercharges any Transformer who ingests it, making them stronger, faster, more powerful...and more aggressive. It turns pain into pleasure, rendering any blows inflicted on a user futile and heals their wounds as well. However, it also acts as a powerful narcotic, filling the user with thrilling, dark sensations and causing addiction. Dark Energon withdrawal turns the user into a raving brute desperate to do anything for more. If the craving is not satisfied, the user devolves to a beast-like state and eventually dies.

Those who imbibe Dark Energon have been seen to project it from their bodies for various destructive purposes, such as attacking enemies, overloading computers, and bringing machines under their control. When a user is killed, the energy acts like a sentient thing (a worrying aspect for a force originating from Unicron) and flies from their corpse to empower any other user nearby.

Pieces of Cybertron infected by Dark Energon tend to turn purple and explode upward into twisted, sharp spikes and growths of metal. Some Dark Energon wielders have even shown the ability to detonate a cluster of these spikes in order to produce a group of mechanical spider-like creatures, which swarm anything nearby.

A Cybertronian corpse injected with Dark Energon will reanimate itself as a feral [[zombie]], intent on destroying all in its path. They are mostly mindless berserkers, but can be commanded by a living Cybertronian who has also been corrupted by the evil energy.
*It has been shown (in the cartoon series) that if part of a reanimated Cybertronian corpse is cut off from the main body, it loses its function to animate. So far in the show, two exceptions have been shown: Cliffjumper's corpse still moving even after being cut in half and Skyquake's arm moving on its own after falling off the body. The gathering and storage of Dark Energon aboard the newly constructed [[Trypticon (WFC)|Trypticon]] was organized by an early assembly of the [[Autobot High Council|High Council]] that included [[Sentinel Zeta Prime|Sentinel Prime]]. The station was guarded by [[Seeker (body-type)|Seeker]]s who were mostly unaware of the nature of Dark Energon. During the civil war, [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] claimed the station for the [[Decepticon]]s, but of fear he did not let [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] know about Trypticon's significance, and despite his allies' attempts they could not find much of the information about Trypticon on the [[DataNet]] had been censored (by [[Alpha Trion (WFC)|Alpha Trion]], who knew that knowledge of Dark Energon was dangerous).

During the last days of the war [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]] found forgotten corners of the DataNet referring to "Sparks of Unicron". Megatron forgave Starscream, acknowledging his fears about Dark Energon's overly destructive use on the battlefield, and because the Air Commander had not tried to use it against him. [[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]] forced two of Starscream's scientists to ingest Dark Energon and the explosive result led to the Darkening of all of Megatron's soldiers. Megatron and Starscream both found the substance invigorating, but a deprivation study of the first two subjects showed they had become rabid, and Megatron vowed he would kill all his soldiers before he was deprived. The Darkened Decepticons attacked the remaining Autobot outposts on Cybertron, but to the Autobots' advantage, whenever a battle was prolonged, the Decepticons would have to flee or risk having the Dark Energon run out.

Soundwave learned of the [[Geosynchronous Energon Bridge]], which could transport vast amounts of energon from Cybertron to Trypticon to be corrupted. Starscream activated it, but it proved futile in quenching the Decepticons' thirst. Soundwave recalled the [[Plasma energy]] Chamber within [[Teletraan-1]] and the [[Code Key]]s required to activate it. The Chamber would enable Megatron to corrupt Cybertron's [[core]] and flood the planet with Dark Energon. During the ensuing battle with [[Omega Supreme (WFC)|Omega Supreme]] for the Chamber, the more the Autobots killed the Decepticons, the more Dark Energon left their corpses to empower Megatron, who was able to knock Omega down and tear the Chamber from his chest.

After Megatron Darkened the core, [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]], [[Jazz (WFC)|Jazz]] and [[Prowl (WFC)|Prowl]] launched a rescue of Sentinel Prime in [[Kaon]]. They were met with little resistance, aside from two gibbering guards. Optimus recognized the Dark Energon had taken its toll on Decepticon competence. Afterwards, he, [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]] and [[Jetfire (WFC)|Jetfire]] ventured to the core to rid it of the poisonous Chamber. The Dark Energon briefly tempted Jetfire to try some, while it distressed Bumblebee to the point he physically tore out the corruption spikes on the core, though it allowed Optimus to remove the Chamber. The core told Optimus the Autobots would have to leave Cybertron while it healed the planet, and gave him the [[Matrix of Leadership]], which would one day act in concert with the core to restore their world. When Megatron returned from deep space after three years away, he revealed he'd found a new way to win the war: Dark Energon, a substance rumoured to be the blood of [[Unicron]] and possessing the power to raise the dead. A test with the corpse of [[Cliffjumper (WFC)|Cliffjumper]] proved it could indeed do this, turning the dead into berserker [[Terrorcon (Prime)|Terrorcons]]; it could also turn machinery into animalistic robots, and merely touching it could render a Transformer ill. Megatron, being Megatron, thought it'd be a jolly good idea to shove some into his own [[spark]]. {{storylink|Darkness Rising, Part 2}} He survived and began to gibber and rant about the power and how it was like he could hear Unicron's thoughts...

Optimus Prime recognised what Dark Energon was, and [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] was stunned to learn that's what they were facing. They went to the site of an old Transformer battle, knowing Megatron would plan to raise the fallen as an undead army with the Dark Energon... but got there too late to stop the tyrant! {{storylink|Darkness Rising, Part 3}} Megatron showed off by sending waves of Terrorcons to exhaust the two, and then revealed that was not his endgame. Discovering the Decepticons had built a [[space bridge]], they realized Megatron intended to reawaken Cybertron's fallen soldiers, and send them to destroy Earth. {{storylink|Darkness Rising, Part 4}} Megatron threw his store of Dark Energon crystals into the space bridge, but before the Terrorcons could cross the space bridge, the Autobots sabotaged it, causing it to collapse on itself, taking Megatron and the Terrorcons with it. {{storylink|Darkness Rising, Part 5}}

Luckily for Megatron, his Dark Energon infusion kept him alive until Starscream found him floating in space. Some Dark Energon wielders have even shown the ability to detonate a cluster of these spikes in order to produce a group of mechanical spider-like creatures, which swarm anything nearby.

A Cybertronian corpse injected with Dark Energon will reanimate itself as a feral [[zombie]], intent on destroying all in its path. They are mostly mindless berserkers, but can be commanded by a living Cybertronian who has also been corrupted by the evil energy.

This allowed Shockwave to recruit them into the Decepticon ranks.
