Swindler and the rest of the Race Car Patrol, along with the Rescue Patrol, were tasked with preventing the Decepticons from experimenting on their fellow Autobot Micromasters from the Battle Patrol, previously captured during a scouting mission. They were given explosive charges to destroy the facility where the Battle Patrol were being held, but chafed against Xaaron's orders that did not permit a rescue. Ultimately they disobeyed his orders and braved the installation. Entry to the facility proved a little too easy... Turns out the Decepticons had already successfully reverse-engineered Micromaster technology, and were now using the Autobots to test their new Air Strike Patrol. With a bit of trickery on Roadhandler's part, the Autobots nonetheless managed to liberate their comrades and fled from the installation. A Small War!

The Race Car Patrol was brought from Cybertron to Earth via trans-dimensional portal in order to reinforce the Autobot forces on the planet. They were all pretty cynical about it, with Swindler complaining that the higher-ups had been looking for a good reason to get them off Cybertron. Along with the Off Road Patrol, Prime informed them on a pair of recent news reports involving giant creatures spotted in the New Jersey swamps and unusual storm activity consolidating over Manhattan. Believing there was a Decepticon link between the stories, the Race Car Patrol went to patrol the nearby roads. There, they ran into Cecilia Santiago, a reporter who was already investigating recent developments. With her help, they located Iguanus in New York City, as he was planting an energy-collecting device on top of the Empire State Building. A couple of police officers, mistaking them for humans in costumes, attempted to bar the Micromasters' way, forcing Swindler and his teammates to tie them to nearby lampposts to proceed. Eventually puzzling out how to work the building's elevators, the Race Car Patrol made it to the roof, and prevented Iguanus from collecting any of the storm's energies, sending him plummeting down to the street in the process. After the mission's completion, the Micromasters regrouped at the base of the Empire State Building, where Optimus offered to pick them up, so they could avoid any trouble from the local law enforcement agents. The Micromasters refused Optimus's help, preferring to instead act as an independent unit and deal with such matters their own way. They decided to stay in New York from then on. King Con!
When Roadhandler was challenged by professional wrestler Jake "The Jackhammer" Jackson to fight him in the ring, the former saw a new forum with which to demonstrate Autobot virtues to a larger human audience, and accepted. He had Swindler and Free Wheeler accompany him to his first meeting with Jackson, and when Casanova Brown introduced himself as Jackson's manager, Swindler decided to follow suit and introduced himself as Roadhandler's manager. He got into the swing of things quickly, and when Brown suggested that Roadhandler throw the match as part of his performance, Swindler insisted that an Autobot only loses to "a superior opponent." Despite Swindler throttling him to get his point across, Brown was more than happy to let the Autobots dictate the match's outcome. Roadhandler rose to fame after his first victory, with Swindler accompanying him to all subsequent matches. Eventually, Roadhandler's fame attracted the unwanted attentions of the Decepticons, who challenged him to take on Storm Cloud in the ring. Knowing that Lord Zarak and his troops wouldn't play fair, Cecilia approached Swindler and asked him to keep an eye out for Roadhandler's fanclub during the match. Cecilia's intuition turned out to be on the money, as several kidnapping attempts were made on Raodhandler's fans during the match, in a bid to force him to forfeit the match. Thanks to the other Micromasters' efforts, all abductions were thwarted, and Roadhandler claimed victory without fear of casualties. The Interplanetary Wrestling Championship!
Shortly afterwards, the Decepticon radioed Optimus, and offered to sell the plans back to him for 5000 energon units. Optimus agreed to "Dealer's" terms, and turned to the Race Car Patrol for volunteers on the exchange. The group was then approached by a a mysterious Autobot who offered to retrieve the sensitive information that Chainclaw had been carrying. Optimus allowed "Double" to go through with the mission, but grew antsy when there appeared to be a delay on his return. He did come back, badly damaged and carrying Chainclaw, claiming that the Decepticons had ambushed him and taken both the plans and the energon. Angered by the betrayal, the rest of the Autobots present vowed to deal with the Decepticons themselves, and charged into battle against Scorponok's troops, holed up in a nearby building. (Double) Deal of the Century!
When Noble first appeared, the creature was basically Megatron in disguise, his spark having been unexpectedly trapped in the organics he had sought to purge. It is unclear whether his seemingly random violent rages were genuine or if they were a deliberate ruse. Once he seemed to gain more self-control and began speaking, Noble claimed to be a survivor of the transformation lock virus in need of help, and so he was quickly accepted into the Maximal fold and befriended by Nightscream. Savage Noble Noble began experiencing "blackouts", however, when his animal mind supposedly took over his actions and led him to Megatron's Citadel, desperately clawing to get in. After breaching the Citadel's defenses, he used a spark extractor on himself and downloaded his spark into a Giant Warship. Prometheus Unbound

: The Beast Changer (so called due to Hasbro's inability to secure the Trademark on "Savage Noble") transforms from wolf-creature to dragon-creature (the packaging announces a conversion from "savage beast to noble wolf", a reference to the name Hasbro wasn't able to trademark). A spring-loaded tab on the dragon's head opens his jaws. The toy's spark crystal has its own unique symbol, a merger of the Beast Machines Maximal and Vehicon logos. Its spark-action gimmick is a wind-up spinning claw attack. His dragon wings cannot transform in any way; for a show-accurate werewolf mode you are required to pop off the wings and set them aside, making him one of the more recent examples of a partformer.

:Despite the character being fully organic, there are mechanical parts visible through his chest. Whether these parts are visible on purpose, or just a byproduct of the mechanisms for his gimmicks exposed by his translucent plastic, isn't known.
*Given the Beast era's focus on a Transformer's life force and personality being bound up in its spark, it is questionable whether Noble, after losing its spark, was technically still a Transformer.
A keen and capable commander, Domitius Major and his crew were boldly going where no beast-former had gone before until extenuating circumstances saw their vessel stranded on a frigid alien planet.

Ten million years ago, during the reign of the Thirteen, Domitius Major was one of the many Maximals who followed "Onyx Prime": in reality, an alias assumed by Shockwave. Following the end of the First Cybertronian Civil War, Onyx and his followers departed Cybertron for good; as part of Onyx's innermost retinue, Domitius and the other Maximals accompanied Onyx when he set a course for the dead world of Antilla. There, Domitius and his comrades watched as Onyx uncovered the "Talisman", the remains of an ancient superweapon and the device that would become an instrumental part of his future schemes. Our Finest

Twenty thousand years ago, Shockwave—acting on his knowledge of history, and seeking to advance his ultimate goal—decided that the Talisman would need to be moved to Earth for safekeeping, Ghost in the Machine (IDW) and entrusted it to Domitius, who carried it offworld aboard the starship Axalon. Domitius and his crew were evidently kept in the dark about the true nature of their mission; by the time that they arrived over Earth after a ten-thousand year voyage, they were drawn to the planet by its supplies of Ore-13, searching for energon to refuel their vessel. While preparing to land, their vessel accidentally received a transmission of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee... a transmission that belonged to the younger Shockwave, who had arrived on Earth to investigate the progress of his Regenesis project.

The Axalon crashed on a glacier in the land that would one day be Brasnya; though physically unharmed, the Talisman their vessel carried had scrambled the minds of their crew and left them with no trace of their memories. When Shockwave came to investigate their ship, Centurion had recovered, and his confusion over his lost identity inspired Shockwave to use the amnesiac Transformers in a twisted experiment of his own devising. By overwriting their missing memories with data from the Cybertronian Great War, the amoral scientist was able to convince the stranded explorers that they were the Autobots and Decepticons; Domitius himself came to believe that he was Optimus Prime. The two factions battled one another for a century in a series of simulated war games while Shockwave observed their tactics. When Shockwave left, the Axalon crew fought until they ran low on energy, and entered stasis lock underground. Strange Visitors

In the 19th century, nearby human activity prompted a handful of Maximals to awaken, though "Optimus Prime" was not one of them. Several of the ersatz Autobots mulled over the possibility of reactivating their commander during the brief conflict between the "Autobots" and "Decepticons", though they ultimately decided against it. Hearts of Steel issue 1 Hearts of Steel issue 2

Several years later, however, the forces of the Elder Gods manifested themselves, threatening both humans and Transformers. With the help of Tobias Muldoon and Nikola Tesla, the "Autobots" were able to reactivate their commander, who had been buried beneath the Mare Rurek Glacier. "Optimus" battled the Elder God in Nova Scotia, and eventually drove it and its followers back to the depths of the ocean. In the aftermath, he pledged to defend Earth if the abomination ever resurfaced. Infestation 2: The Transformers issue 2

Domitius, still believing himself to be Optimus Prime, survived until World War I, when he and "Bumblebee" were caught in a European battlefield. Faced with a real war, their artificial memories of the Cybertronian war swiftly unraveled and Domitius perished that day. His death was enough to shake "Bumblebee" from his conditioning.

By the end of World War II, Centurion returned to the crash site of the Axalon, where he discovered that the IRON Troopers that the Talisman created had banded together to puppeteer Domitius's dead body like a suit. Centurion—by this time, the last surviving member of the Axalon crew—battled his old commander for the last time and eventually managed to tear his body apart. Strange Visitors In the decades that followed, Kreiger recovered Domitius' body as part of his quest to unlock the secrets of the Talisman and relocated it to a secure facility beneath the crater left by the Axalon. The Iron Klaw Strange Visitors

By studying Atomic Man's reverse-engineered cybernetics, Kreiger eventually discovered a way to command the IRON Troopers to once more animate Domitius's dead body. Alongside "Shockwave", the "I.R.O.N. Cybertronians" were deployed to stop Action Man after he and his compatriots broke into the base. Action Man briefly tangled with them before he managed to flood a tunnel and wash them away. They recovered just in time to briefly battle Matt Trakker in the Thunderhawk before Atomic Man committed suicide, severing the link between himself and the IRON Troopers to permanently take them offline. Power and Glory

Following his fusion with Mike Power, Centurion would mourn both Domitius and Smarts as friends that he had betrayed and lost. Unification Day: Dusk
To escape the wrath of the Six Clan that he betrayed and to atone for his past sins, Sixshot faked his death and became the Autobot Greatshot. As part of his redemption, he also resurrected Jack, who he murdered years ago, and the revived Cyberdroid served as Greatshot's Headmaster for a period that included Greatshot officially joining Star Saber's Autobots and putting an end to the Concurrence.
Eventually getting his own head and becoming a whole Transformer again, Greatshot tended to be a loner, but would assist the Autobots at several points, including tackling his former Crossformer comrades and trying to turn his former friend Guyhawk to the side of good. When Ginrai fell in battle, Star Saber assisted Greatshot to lead the dying robot's Second Army. When the threat of Deathsaurus was ended for good, Greatshot returned to his mercenary ways and fought in the Silvart War.
With Unicron destroyed, a small group of Autobots and Decepticons gather around the shattered remains of Optimus Prime, somehow still clinging to life. As Prime gasps out his final words, his last request is that Prowl make sure Grimlock takes command of the Autobots in his absence.

Elsewhere on the planet, Optimus Prime's Nebulan partner Hi-Q is on the run, fleeing from the creatures who just devoured Runabout. He thinks to himself that he needs to get back to Prime, tell him about the miraculous changes they both are going through, thanks to the Powermaster process.

At the new United Cybertronian compound, Prowl gives his news to a less than enthusiastic Grimlock. When Grimlock moves to go about his business with little more than a word, Prowl grabs him and tries to drill home his new responsibilities. Grimlock shoots back, telling him that the Ark has been stolen, complete with several deactivated Autobots who were never fully brought back by the Nucleon. Grimlock was planning to lead his Dinobots on an expedition to track down and retrieve the lost ship. Prowl's not done, though. He reminds Grimlock that Optimus Prime upheld a code of ideals for the Autobots, including the notion that Autobots do not kill, unless as a last resort to save others. He makes Grimlock vow to carry on Prime's views.

As Grimlock and the Dinobots leave, Prowl receives some bad news from Blaster's seismology report, while Bludgeon and his lieutenant Krok agree to bide time and weigh their options before making any moves.

On the search for the Ark, Swoop questions Grimlock, submitting that Prowl may have been right, that preserving the peace was more important than their current mission. Cynically, Grimlock informs him that the peace has no chance of lasting anyway. As he goes on, Grimlock's body suddenly seizes up completely, leaving him totally paralyzed. Just then, Hi-Q catches up with the Dinobots, and his hunters find him as well. The monsters surround the Dinobots, who are forced into battle instead of running away, in order to defend their helpless leader.

Meanwhile, at the stolen Ark, Starscream and Shockwave are attempting to enact repairs to the damaged ship. Starscream doesn't understand why it's necessary to repair the Ark, when they could easily hunt around and find another one. Shockwave explains to his partner that the Ark is still the best ship on Cybertron, and his calculations suggest they won't have time to hunt down and steal another ship. A shadowy observer silently agrees with his assessment.

Back at the battle, the Dinobots are having a rough time with the Demons: they are incredibly resilient and continue to pop up by the dozen. As the Dinobots still refuse to abandon Grimlock, he silently laments that his rash use of Nucleon may leave them all frozen as he is... or worse. However, Hi-Q's Powermaster "energy vision" sees something else in Grimlock—a chrysalis of pure energy slowly building beneath his superstructure. Using his special abilities, Hi-Q manages to tap into and boost the process, pushing Grimlock's transformation to fruition in a matter of moments. In his new Action Master robot mode, Grimlock is now bursting with power. He single-handedly sends the devil-creatures packing, and then grabs one of the stragglers to beat him to death as revenge. Hi-Q stops him, however, speaking to Grimlock about the inner conflict in his circuits, and that he only truly wins a battle when he gives peace and chance, and stops himself from taking life needlessly.

As the Dinobots turn to go, they're treated to a pair of surprises. First, Grimlock reveals that with his new power comes the loss of his ability to transform. Then, Hi-Q makes the startling claim that he somehow is Optimus Prime.
"Prime had a message for you. He wanted you to remeber that whateve the provocation, whatever the circumstances, the foes we fight are still living beings! We are Autobots, we kill only as a last option, and then only to save other lives! Mercy and compassion are what set us apart from those we fight! We forget that and we are lost! As Autobot leader, do you vow to follow this code, uphold Prime's ideals?"
<br>...
<br>"Yes."
:—Prowl may or may not have gotten through to Grimlock

"Opinion, Bludgeon?"<br>
"I think, Krok, we should examine... options!"
:—Unicron's been dead five seconds, and Krok and Bludgeon are already scheming

"I dunno -- I just don't see the point in this! I mean, Unicron's been defeated.... there's no hurry to get off-planet now. We could wait awhile, steal a spacecraft without big holes in it!"
:—Starscream grouses about being on Ark repair duty

"As regards the immediacy of our departure, I have a hypothesis..."<br>
"What a surprise!"
:—Shockwave and Starscream

"I understand you, Grimlock -- I always have. Like Scorponok, you walk the fine line between good and evil, Autobot and Decepticon! Your mind is a perpetual battleground, your war a lonely struggle against your own nature! Give in to hate and anger and you lose! Part of you dies! But every time you find peace, stay the hand that slays, you win! That is why you must remember that whatever shape it wears, it is still life. And life is the most precious thing of all!"

Notes
Artwork and technical errors
*The highly damaged Optimus Prime is in his super robot form, but there isn't much in the artwork to indicate he has a smaller robot inside.
*In spite of having died by getting stepped on by Unicron while in his Pretender shell, Bomb-Burst is seen wrecked in altmode here. (Keep in mind though that the robots are long established as able to work outside their shells). Regardless, he's still dead.
*Pages nine and twelve of UK issue #324 have their color palettes reversed.

Continuity errors
*The Transformers Universe profile for Grotusque says that his first appearance is "right here", when he actually first appeared in Headmasters #1.

Continuity notes
*This is the second time that Prime has died in the Marvel US continuity.
*Bludgeon and Grimlock are officially identified as the new Decepticon and Autobot leaders.
*Grimlock being made Autobot leader is a bit of an odd choice because he made a hash of it last time, and the last time Prime saw him he was storming off in a huff. However, he'd been a pretty servicable leader in the Earthforce stories and while they're not in continuity with "Still Life!", Furman may have subconciously been thinking of it.
*The demons had previously appeared in the UK comic stories "Underworld!", "Demons!", and "Dawn of Darkness".
*Grimlock's paralysis has been building since his exposure to Nucleon in US issue #70, first with his leg in #72 and then his hand in #74.

Real-life references
*Slag's line "Frying tonight!" hearkens back to an old Britishism from the shortages surrounding World War II, when fish & chip shops would only offer fried fish on certain days of the week. (It is also a famous quote from the film Carry on Screaming.)
:Infernocus is a Decepticon-allied Infernocon combiner from The Last Knight portion of the live-action film series continuity family.

When confronted by a threat to Quintessa too powerful for the demonic Infernocons to handle individually, they combine to take the form of the perfervid Infernocus.

Sometimes, he is composed of five distinct Infernocons: Skulk, Rupture, Thrash, Gorge, and Glug; otherwise, he is composed of six identical Infernocons.
The Last Knight film
Infernocus was Quintessa's enforcer, menacing Optimus Prime into submission when he was in a forced audience with the sorceress. He later witnessed the activation of the staff when Cybertron had reached Earth and fell under Megatron's command to fight the incoming Autobots. During the battle he separated into his smaller Infernocon components to provide more firepower. The Autobot Hound soon arrived to give the Humans better cover fire and Megatron ordered the Infercocons to recombine onto their larger form again. Hound worried that he didn't have enough ammo to fight the giant. He came under fire from the airborne Autobots—Bumblebee, Hot Rod, and Crosshairs—but recovered and shot their fighters down. Optimus Prime then arrived on Dragonstorm to engage him in combat, but not before the large three-headed dragon bot knocked them to the ground. The combiner was no match for the Prime and took damage to his head and chest. He separated into his components and they tried to gang up on their enemy, but they were all swiftly decapitated in one mighty swing of Optimus' sword. Transformers: The Last Knight (film)

:The Last Knight Infernocus is a combiner composed of one new mold (Skulk) and four redecos of Prime Abominus's components: Blight, Rippersnapper, Twinstrike, and Windrazor. The box set also includes a small translucent Quintessa figure.

:The components can transform from beasts into robots or combine with each other to form Infernocus, with the central component's swords forming a larger sword. (On the other hand, Infernocus can combine with the other Prime Legion Class Predacons or the component robots from the Go! Goradora set to form some kind of a mumble jumble whatchamajigger combiner if you have no idea what you're doing.) Infernocus also features Cyberglyphics on his Combiner chest, which confusingly translates his name. Due to Skulk's larger body size, Infernocus' combined mode was closely scaled with some Voyager Class figures like Premier Edition Optimus Prime.

:He was released as a Toys"R"Us exclusive. As with most of the Mission to Cybertron subline toys, Infernocus comes with a Mission Card that can be deciphered with the decoder provided by the Transformers' website.
