Time travel allows an individual or group of individuals to move either forward or backward in time, in such a way as to be able to interact with the surroundings and occupants of that time. Depending upon the nature of the universe occupied by the time traveller(s), it may be possible to alter the past in a way that the travellers’ personal timelines are rewritten.

Time travel can be facilitated by a number of devices, such as time-jump mechanisms and transwarp drives, or substances, such as Ore-1 and Chronogon.

Types of time travel
Across the Transformers continuities, time travel has been used on several occasions. Most of these have been the result of deliberate technological attempts, while others have been a side effect of an existing technology. More rarely, time travel has been the result of a natural phenomenon. The most common use of deliberate time travel is to return to the past to alter history to the advantage of the traveller.

Generation 1 animated continuity
The first example of time travel was a natural phenomena caused by the Decepticons stealing energy from Dinobot Island. For unknown reasons this caused random time rifts to appear across the globe. Each time rift was connected to a different time period and soon closed naturally. Once the energy stolen from Dinobot Island was returned by destroying the Decepticons' energon cubes the time rifts ceased. Dinobot Island, Part 1 Dinobot Island, Part 2

During one of their many battles, the Autobots and Decepticons discovered a time machine called the Dragon Mound. This was a large domed structure inside a stone circle. Inside the dome, touching a strip of runes on the walls activated the device and sent anyone inside back to the Arthurian period of 6th Century England. The wizard Beorht professed to have created it to use as a "time transporter," but he had been unable to use it due to a dragon taking up residence within the mound (hence its name). A Decepticon Raider in King Arthur's Court (episode)

Megatron and Shockwave developed a time machine they called a Kronosphere. This was a large green platform, made of several levels of disc-like constructions. To use the device a traveller would stand on the topmost disc. The device operator would program a time zone into the control console to activate the device. The device seems to send its users gradually back through time rather than having them simply arrive at their chosen time zone. If this journey is interrupted, the travellers will be deposited in the time zone they are currently passing through. The Kronosphere was later destroyed in a battle between the Autobots and Decepticons. War Dawn (episode)

The Quintessons later developed a time travel device called a Time Window. This was a large triangular device with a control console attached to the base. Once a destination was programmed into it, the center of the triangle became a portal through which travellers and objects could pass. A copy of the triangular portion of the window appears at the destination time zone. This allows travel back to the departure time zone. While the time window is active it leaks dangerous Chronal energy. This, if left unchecked, can cause time distortions such as time looks and turning back time. Eventually the chronal energy would cause irreparable damage to space-time. Forever Is a Long Time Coming

Marvel Comics continuity
Time travel technology was developed some time before the year 2006. It is not known if this was an Autobot or Decepticon invention. Both sides appear to have had access to the technology, however.

Early examples look like a modern art sculpture. Standing in front of the device allows one or more individuals to be transported to their selected time zone. Target: 2006 A later version was designed as a door-shaped hole in the wall. When activated, the ‘doorway’ is filled with a swirling red and black vortex. Walking into the doorway will transport an individual to the location selected. Time Wars

To enable a successful time jump, the balance of mass in the destination time zone must be maintained. To facilitate this, the time machine selects a being of equivalent mass to displace into a holding dimension called Limbo. Those who are displaced, vanish leaving only a pile of ash behind. Once the time traveller(s) return to their own time the displaced individuals reappear.

Bypassing this mass substitution process can have catastrophic consequences for the fabric of space-time. The dark god Unicron forced the Junkions to create a time portal that did just this. It was a giant circular device large enough to reach his arm through. He intended to use the portal to snatch Galvatron back from the past. He was destroyed before he could follow through on his plan, but the Decepticons, Cyclonus and Scourge along with the freelance peacekeeping agent Death's Head were cast through the portal. Cyclonus and Scourge ended up in Earth's past but Death's Head was lost in time. The Legacy of Unicron! When Cyclonus ended up killed in the past, before his own creation, Dry Run! a dangerous timestorm broke out in two eras, destroying the planet of Quintessa and endangering others. Cyclonus' corpse had to be sent back through to solve the problem, and the presence of two Matrix-bearers (Rodimus and Optimus) caused the storm to get temporarily worse.

After putting up with the "Time Wars", Rodimus agreed to destroy all the Autobot's time machines when he returned to 2009. Time Wars
Beast era continuity
Time travel technology appears to be commonplace in this era. Cybertronian ships are equipped with Transwarp drives. This opens wormholes to different time zones. The ship must then fly through the wormhole to arrive at its destination. This process leaves a detectable signature that can be traced and followed by others. The detectable nature of this form of time travel is likely one of the major reasons why fewer unscrupulous individuals attempt to change the past; even Megatron was initially hesitant to pursue this course of action, though he later decided "the hell with it" and shot the comatose Optimus Prime in the face.
In 1939, Griffin Rock scientists constructed a time machine, but were unable to get it to work and abandoned it in a secret room. In the present day, the room was discovered by Cody Burns underneath Doc Greene's laboratory. Doc Greene was able to make it functional again through nuclear power. He arranged for the Rescue Bots and their human companions to be present to witness the initial testing of the time machine. Dither was chosen to be the time-traveling test subject. Frankie Greene and Cody Burns got inside Heatwave for safety. When the machine was activated, the Rescue Bots' energon caused the machine to malfunction, sending the Rescue Bots and the two kids back in time along with Dither. The time-travelers encountered the scientists of that time period, including Doctor Morocco. Morocco tried to abduct the Rescue Bots, but with the help of Optimus Prime and Bumblebee (who came back in time to help them), everyone was able to make it back to the present, except Dither. When they arrived in the present they found everything had changed for the worse. It's a Bot Time

With the help of the alternate-timeline Burns family and their Mobile Headquarters, the team was able to go back through the time machine back to the past to retrieve Dither. The first artificial form of time travel is Ore-1, a synthetic form of energon started by Shockwave's Regenesis experiments. How he did it is unclear but it threw the planet LV-117 into the timestream. The locals were able to adapt to this but several Transformers would find themselves skipping randomly between timezones. Syndromica (2)

The second artificial form was by Decepticon agent Brainstorm. Years of work created a machine made out of seperate components (disguised as briefcases), with the "control case" kept with him, and a link to quantum engines allowed him to move through space. Though he fled back through time to alter history, seemingly out of reach, unknown to him, the Lost Light had their own control case. The Custom-Made Now - An Elegant Chaos Prologue

Can history be changed?
Types of Universe
Time travel theory allows for three basic types of universe in which time travel can occur.

*Type 1 - History is immutable. The timeline cannot be changed. Any time traveller attempting to alter history is either doomed to failure for reasons beyond the time traveller’s control or else was part of the old timeline. (You can't stop Kennedy being shot)
*Type 2 – The timeline is flexible and can be changed by the actions of a time traveller. (You can stop Kennedy being shot)
*Type 3 – The timeline you travel back to is either not your timeline but an alternate one, or you create an alternate timeline with your actions instead of affecting your own. (You can stop Kennedy being shot but your present day is unaffected)

The different Transformer continuities appear to exist in different universe types and so each will be discussed separately.

Generation 1 animated continuity
This continuity would appear to exist in a Type 1 universe. Both "War Dawn" and "Forever is a Long Time Coming" show the time travellers becoming a part of the history they are visiting. In both cases the past remains unaltered. This is consistent with a Type 1 universe in which the timeline cannot be changed (and does not feature divergent timelines).

"A Decepticon Raider in King Arthur's Court" doesn't really offer much evidence to support this, the time machine being little more than a plot device to place the characters in a non-technological society. However, the introduction of a number of anachronisms, such as Starscream’s dynamo and the gunpowder, do not appear to have any impact on the future and this implies Type 1.

Beast Era
Beast Wars
The Beast Wars would appear to take place in a Type 2 universe. Evidence that the timeline can be altered was presented by Megatron who projected an image of a mountain recorded on the golden disc in the future. After locating the mountain in the past he destroyed part of it and then checked the golden disc again to find that the image had changed to reflect the damage he had caused. The future had therefore been altered. Code of Hero

Indeed, Megatron's entire plan in "The Agenda", "Code of Hero" and all of Season 3 revolve around the idea that the timeline can be changed. When he does blow Optimus Prime's head off, time begins to unravel and the Maximals are visibly affected by the change in their timeline. The Agenda (Part III) The Maximals are also concerned that destroying Megatron while he has the other Megatron's Spark will alter time; and Tigerhawk (while still Vok-linked) explicitly states time will be altered if the Ark is destroyed, which is what Tarantulas is trying to bring about. Other Victories

At the same time, however, some comments were made to suggest a Type 1 universe. When Blackarachnia remarked that the history tracks on the Ark had failed to mentioned the presence of an additional Autobot shuttle, Rhinox remarked that "history's still being made," indicating that the Maximals' very use of the shuttle in taking down the Nemesis was the reason that the history tracks did not mention it. Nemesis Part 2 Similarly, if the Vok's experiments hadn't been wrecked by the time travellers, Earth would have looked quite different... or does this mean they're in a Type 3 universe?

Beast Machines
As this is a set in the same universe as Beast Wars, this must also be a Type 2 universe.

Marvel Comics continuity
There are a number of ‘futures’ shown throughout the series. Some examples are: the original Transformers: The Movie timeline, the alternate future that Rodimus and company return to after Time Wars, the future where Unicron attacks Cybertron in US#75 and is destroyed, and the alternate future in which Cybertron is destroyed that Galvatron II comes from. There's frequent time travel but for the most part the future characters seem to have no memory of events in the past to which they are travelling. In the very first storyline, Target 2006, Galvatron explicitly calls this a Type 3 timeline. He wants to avoid killing anyone 'early' because he thinks that will turn his trip into an alternate timeline, making his actions useless. He's conned into giving up this way: Hot Rod makes him think he killed Starscream twenty years too soon. In later stories, future Autobots worry about Galvatron running around in the 1980s again but have no memory he ever did, while he's not trying to alter time.

Time Wars then confuses us all as Galvatron remembers the battle through Megatron’s eyes. However, his memories of the battle are different to what's actually going on. It's been theorised that if your memories change when the timeline does, it would be difficult for an observer to know if they were in a Type 1 or Type 2 universe but this is the first time this ever comes up in Transformers! Soon after, Rodimus and company returning to a different future because of the Time Wars, which have made it so Galvatron never travelled; either this means it was Type 2 after all or they're in a Type 3 universe and somehow ended up in the wrong future. Back in the 80s, Megatron now believes he'll definitely become Galvatron but doesn't plan to be that Galvatron, so he thinks it's Type 1 that he will somehow turn into Type 2 (Megs has an ego).

We then learn that's a clone of Megatron and then he dies, so if Galvatron was him then it's Type 2 again as he's unaware of another (real) Megatron.

Then we see Unicron being drawn to Cybertron years before 2006 and two timelines dealing with that, the US one and the Earthforce one... the latter of which happens due to a Galvatron time-travelling!

All of this points to a Type 2 or Type 3. This continuity also shows that if a time-traveller dies before their creation, a giant and destructive time rift is created in two time zones, which doesn't fit either model.

Armada cartoon
In Rad White's time, the Mini-Cons are friendly entities the Autobots and Decepticons fight over. However, they were made by Unicron with the idea they would eventually incapacitate the larger Transformers for him... except they didn't because Rad was sent back in time and made contact with High Wire, which caused sentience and free will to spread through the Mini-Con race. This would appear to be a Type 1 universe, as Rad's time travel brings about his own future.

However, the same episode showing that showed a Cybertron where the Mini-Cons were incapacitating everyone for Unicron. Drift (episode) While the dubbed characters said this was the past, this does not make sense. What makes more sense is that this is an alternate present where Rad never went back in time. Which would imply you can change the timeline, but then begs the question of how it got changed so that Rad could ensure it was changed and arrrrrrg.

Aligned continuity
This appears to be a type 2 universe, as the history of Griffin Rock was effectively altered and then repaired by the time-traveling Rescue Bots.

IDW Generation 1 continuity
Perceptor informed us that this was a Type 1 that can become Type 2 if you can get round the infamous paradox trap, that if time was changed you never made a time machine and thus never went back in time. On LV-117, none of the characters could alter time when they fell through the continuum; it all turned out to lead to the present.

However, Brainstorm's mad science found a way to preserve the original timeline "just long enough for the new one to bed in", establishing itself so it couldn't be outdone and the original would start fading out. The Custom-Made Now - An Elegant Chaos Prologue Cybertron was changed but the Lost Light, far away, wasn't immediately unaffected. Memories began to be slowly overwritten.

<strike>James Roberts</strike> Perceptor also said that Type 3 universes don't exist, that they're simply a way that "second rate <strike>writers</strike> scientists" get out of dealing with the full implications of Type 2.
Flame is a disgraced Autobot scientist, and with fairly good reason. His brilliance is overshadowed by an obliviousness to risk as he stubbornly pursues his grandiose ideas. His sole concern with other beings is whether they think he's right and if they don't, he only becomes more obsessed with accomplishing his goals, no matter who or what must be sacrificed. This has driven him to an eons-long reclusion spent secretly enacting his master plan. On the rare occasion when he actually has contact with others, his mannerisms are flamboyant and histrionic, and he is never without either a grin or a grimace.

He transforms into a "firetank" with a high-powered flame thrower and a very fetching red, yellow and orange colour scheme. Also he has a zombie army, so try not to die around him.
Fiction
Marvel Comics continuity
Flame
Flame was a member of the Iacon Academy of Science and Technology on Cybertron. Flame proposed adapting Megatron's plan—turning Cybertron into a mobile war world—so that it would instead become a mobile spaceship for exploration. Emirate Xaaron spoke out against the plan, as the fusion reactor required for the planetary engine would be highly dangerous.

Flame was removed from the academy and denied funds to continue his research. However, he embezzled money from the academy and continued his research in an old lab in the city of Kalis.

One day he was careless and the lab was destroyed in an explosion. The Autobots thought Flame was dead, but in reality he had survived and discovered that the explosion uncovered the entrance to the experimental engines that Megatron had built.

Flame took advantage of the accident, allowing the world to believe him dead while he secretly pursued his goal. He worked on repairing the engines for four million years, striving for the day that he would prove himself to have been right all along. That day came into sight in the year 1988, when he finally began to activate the massive systems, but venting the fusion reactor ignited a subterranean gas pocket and destroyed a portion of Kalis.

While this did not disrupt his operations, it did draw attention, so he activated his defense plan: Using the Decepticon engine-control computer (with modifications), he broadcast a signal by which he could reanimate any corpses within an area that seemed to correspond to the city limits. This quickly turned Kalis into a "zombie"-infested wasteland where neither Autobots nor Decepticons dared tread.

As it happened, the headquarters of the Autobot resistance movement had recently been moved to a new Autobase in Kalis. So Flame's old rival Xaaron was there when the reactor-venting explosion and subsequent zombie assault occurred. This was another happy accident for Flame, who gloated in taking Xaaron and the Wreckers prisoner so they could witness firsthand the fulfillment of his plan. Legion of the Lost!

Xaaron, of course, was no less averse to Flame's risky venture than he had been millions of years earlier. Xaaron managed to escape from his cell and attack Flame, but the latter's firetank mode sent him running. Xaaron even considered converting to his own "combat mode" despite his fear that doing so might kill him, as it had been so very long since he had done it before. But in the end, Xaaron was able to distract Flame out of his murderous rage by pointing out that the reactor was nearing meltdown.

For a moment, it seemed that Flame would listen to reason, but when the two were actually in the control room about to shut the reactor down, his jealousy resurfaced, and he refused to let Xaaron stop his plan. The standoff was handily ended by the Wreckers, who had been joined by Ultra Magnus, the Sparkler Mini-Bots, and even the Decepticons Flywheels and Trypticon. Flame summoned his zombies, but it was one of them who proved his undoing: The corpse of the Wreckers' old leader Impactor had, due to contact with his former troops, been acquiring a resistance to Flame's control. As Flame tried once again to kill Xaaron, Impactor sent a spear through Flame's head. Impactor then entered the reactor chamber and shut it off while its lethal radiation destroyed him a second time. The engines still exploded, but the damage to Cybertron was minimal compared to what could have happened if the reactor had blown up as well. Meltdown!
Some might call Air Raid reckless, the way he dives out of nowhere, charging enemy units head on. Air Raid would laugh at that. A rash and fearless young warrior who loves surprises (especially those that leave his foes too stunned to fight back), he has only one real goal in life: to have fun. Needless to say his attitude puts him in a lot of danger, but you can be sure he's enjoying himself the whole time.

Air Raid combines with his fellow Aerialbots to form Superion.

At one point during the eternal war with the Autobots on Earth, Megatron grew fed up with how his opponents ruled the roads and created a group of Decepticon cars known as the Stunticons. In order to give his new warriors life and intellect, he brought them to Cybertron and tracked down the ancient supercomputer, Vector Sigma, to input cybernetic personalities into the Stunticons. Thanks to a series of traps and drones in their way, the Autobots failed to prevent Megatron from succeeding and returning to Earth. Seeking to even the playing field, Optimus Prime conceived of the idea of retrofitting several broken-down Cybertronian ships into Earthly jets, and bringing them to life as a team of Autobot flyers. With the help of his tech-savvy soldiers, Hoist, Wheeljack, Ratchet, and Prime's own creator, Alpha Trion, Optimus' plan was enacted and the Aerialbots were born. The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 2

Like most of the Aerialbots, Air Raid was slow to learn the Autobots' ways. Overly impressed with the flying skills of Starscream and his wingmen, the Aerialbots were easily lured onto a Kronosphere platform, and cast more than nine million years into the past. They had the opportunity to view Megatron's evil firsthand, as the early Decepticons deactivated their new friends Ariel, Dion and Orion Pax. Air Raid and the others soon returned to the future with a newfound resolve to oppose the Decepticons' tyranny. War Dawn (episode)

Air Raid led the Aerialbots in a flight around the Statue of Liberty, which the Autobots were gracefully coating with Perceptor's new invention, Corrostop, to prevent corrosion. Unfortunately, the Decepticons were just as interested in Perceptor's work, and the Stunticons arrived to kidnap him. Air Raid and the others chased the Stunticons aboard Blitzwing all the way back to the Decepticons' undersea base, but were driven off by the Lightning Bug. This impressive heat ray zapped Air Raid's missile in mid-flight, then tagged his tail for good measure. He was forced to sit there and smolder while giving his report to Optimus Prime before being allowed to pick up some replacement parts. Cosmic Rust (episode)

Air Raid was with the Aerialbots when they answered a distress call about a canyon cave-in, but the team soon discovered the call was a trap laid by the Combaticons. After taking out Slingshot the Combaticons claimed the upper hand, until the arrival of Autobot reinforcements changed their minds and the tide of battle. As the Combaticons retreated, Silverbolt held Air Raid back from pursuing the Combaticons in order to get his help in digging out Slingshot. After his recovery, Slingshot volunteered to be a decoy as part of Skydive’s plan to investigate a plane smuggling ring. Air Raid sarcastically told his fellow jets to enjoy their 'vacation' as he departed.

Returning later to assist Slingshot and Skydive, Air Raid and Silverbolt took on Vortex, Ramjet, Blast Off and a fleet of drone jets while under fire from the Combaticons and Megatron’s purple griffin fortress. After the Combaticons formed Bruticus, Air Raid tried to distract the giant Decepticon from smacking Silverbolt, and got smacked himself instead. With the arrival of Fireflight, the Aerialbots combined into Superion and wrestled with Bruticus, then separated again. With a well-placed shot, they set an oil field ablaze and the resulting blast sent the defeated Decepticons and Bruticus flying into the sky.

After regrouping in Prince Jumal’s palace, Air Raid threatened some good old fashioned Autobot justice against captured Decepticon minion Ali, but Silverbolt said the Aerialbots should let Prince Jumal deal with his fellow human. Aerial Assault

After the death of Megatron and the retaking of Cybertron, Air Raid and the Aerialbots became part of the Autobot Fleet. When Ultra Magnus, Kup and Spike were kidnapped to Quintessa, the rescue party alerted the Aerialbots to swoop by for covering fire and pick-up. Air Raid and Skydive made the strafing run that took out the Quintessons' defensive proton cannon. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 2 When the Quintessons destroyed their own planet to get at the Autobots, the resulting blast wave destroyed the Aerialbots' ship, sending Air Raid and the rest hurtling through space. They eventually impacted on Goo 8739B, and were rescued by Wreck-Gar and the Junkions. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 3

{{Note|In the episode "Dark Awakening", several jets in the Autobot Fleet resembling the Aerialbots' alt modes were destroyed by the Quintessons.
When Perceptor's science team were attacked in space, Air Raid and the Aerialbots accompanied Rodimus Prime in rescuing them. As Superion, they confronted a horde of Quintessons and drove them off. After Silverbolt disengaged their super mode, Air Raid still wanted to chase after the Quintessons, but Silverbolt reined him in. Air Raid chastised him for having no sense of adventure, to which Silverbolt retorted that was exactly why he was in charge. Forever Is a Long Time Coming

One lovely afternoon in space, Air Raid was playing cat-and-mouse with Scourge and Cyclonus. Once he had finished his fun, Air Raid led the Decepticon duo into an asteroid field where his fellow Aerialbots were waiting to spring an ambush. The Aerialbots messed the Decepticons up pretty badly, especially after they transformed into Superion. Eventually, they chased the Decepticons through a strange warp in space. This proceeded to have no consequences for anyone whatsoever. Fight or Flee

Air Raid and the Aerialbots were spending a relaxing day watching home movies on Teletraan II when things suddenly got serious, as the Autobots' computer off-handedly informed them Trypticon was never destroyed in his last battle with Metroplex. When they tracked Trypticon to his new staging grounds, Air Raid and the Aerialbots launched from Broadside, but the Decepticon presence in Carbombya was more than they had anticipated. Still, Air Raid paid tribute to his leader Silverbolt by reciting his famous battle-cry, "Good-bye, cruel world!" He dipped his singed tailfins in the ocean and managed to make a hasty retreat with Broadside and his fellow Aerialbots. The Aerialbots soon returned with reinforcements and drove the Decepticons from Carbombya. Thief in the Night

During a battle in space, Air Raid and the Aerialbots may or may not have been present. Superion, at least, was surely there on the planet Eurythma...sometimes. Carnage in C-Minor

After Sky Lynx took some hostile fire over the planet of Junk, Rodimus Prime dispatched Air Raid and the Aerialbots to investigate. They were caught in a crossfire between the brain-addled Junkions and the Quintessons, who were responsible for messing with the Junkions' air waves, and their minds. Even after becoming Superion, the Aerialbots took heavy fire and had to be brought back to First Aid on Cybertron for repairs. The Big Broadcast of 2006 (episode)

On one occasion, Air Raid was buzzing too close to Trypticon during a battle on Earth, and the dinosaur city unleashed his full plasma breath. Air Raid's tail-fins were scorched and he had to set down in a small lake, but his sacrifice gave Silverbolt a chance to fly down Trypticon's throat now that his flame was temporarily used up. The Aerialbot leader was then able to cause serious internal damage to the giant Decepticon before flying back out again. And Air Raid totally planned it that way. No, really. The Ultimate Weapon

During the Decepticon invasion of Japan, the Aerialbots fought against Astrotrain when he tried to derail a bullet train full of passengers. The Burden Hardest to Bear Sometime thereafter, Air Raid and the Aerialbots were recruited by Rodimus Prime to rescue the body of Optimus Prime from Swofford and Morgan. Unfortunately, this only meant they were among the first Autobots exposed to the Hate Plague. Despite the madness induced by the red dust, the Aerialbots were apparently still willing to form Superion. Superion ran amok, causing serious property damage, infecting Defensor, and taking several other Autobots out of action. The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 1

When the Decepticons invaded Cybertron searching for the Plasma Energy Chamber, the Aerialbots tried to stop them. Unfortunately, they didn't reckon with Sixshot. Flying heedlessly into battle, Air Raid was shot down first by the Six Changer's siege tank mode. The Rebirth, Part 1 The Combaticons then took his power pack to use as fuel for the giant rocket engine they were constructing for Galvatron. The Rebirth, Part 3
When the Protectobots confronted Menasor at a baseball stadium, Air Raid and the Aerialbots arrived as back-up. They formed Superion to engage Menasor and Bruticus. After Defensor was injured, Superion targeted the Decepticon combiners' legs, shaking them loose and giving the smaller Protectobots a chance to link up with the Decepticon gestalts and override control of their bodies. {{storylink|Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers issue 5|Fight! Kenji radioed for help, and Optimus Prime sent Air Raid and the Aerialbots to the rescue. As Superion they fought off Devastator and Trypticon, using their smarts to outthink the evil warriors. As Hound cast a massive hologram of Metroplex, Air Raid detached from Superion to buzz around Trypticon's head, tricking him into charging at the not-quite-there Autobot. Instead of grappling with his foe, Tryppy tripped over a cliff into the waters below. {{storylink|Fight! Super Robot Lifeform Transformers issue 6|Fight! ====Scramble City cartoon====
Air Raid and the Aerialbots were dispatched from the Scramble City project by Ultra Magnus to aid Optimus Prime in battle with the Seekers and Devastator. Their aerial firepower frankly overwhelmed the marauding Decepticons, and sent them home with their transistors between their struts. On his second attempt, Megatron sent the Stunticons, who were considerably more successful in engaging the Autobots. Damaged in jet modes, Air Raid the Aerialbots chose instead to merge and form Superion. As Superion, they possessed scramble combining abilities, but so did the Stunticons when they formed Menasor. The Aerialbots were in the midst of reconfiguring their limb formation when Fireflight, being... well, a daydreaming idiot, mixed up whether he was supposed to be the right leg or the left. His indecision gave Menasor time to shoot him down, and Wildrider assumed the place of Superion's right leg instead, corrupting his programming. Air Raid and the others were trapped as Superion, literally fighting themselves, until Fireflight retook his place as Superion's limb. Scramble City: Mobilization

The Great Transformer War
In 2010, Galvatron kidnapped Dalton of Eran to utilize his skills and improve the Decepticons' combiner technology. Air Raid and the Aerialbots joined the Protectobots in assaulting Trypticon, in hopes of rescuing the hostage scientist. Air Raid and his team formed Superion for a first strike, but the Decepticon combiners countered with their deployment modes, launching the Stunticon and Combaticon troops with enough force to tear Superion apart. The Protectobots stood guard over Hot Spot as he performed battlefield triage on the Aerialbots in his repair bay mode, bringing them back on-line. Silverbolt then transformed into launcher mode and unleashed Air Raid and the other Aerialbots in their own scramble attack, blinding Menasor and Bruticus long enough for the Autobots to escape safely with Dalton. The Great Transformer War issue 1

The Headmasters cartoon
Air Raid and the Aerialbots were stationed at Autobot City on Earth in 2011. When Galvatron attacked Cybertron via the old space bridge network, the Aerialbots were summoned to Cybertron as reinforcements. They soon arrived with the Trainbots and quickly joined the battle. Air Raid and his team formed Superion and battled Abominus and Devastator. Four Warriors Come out of the Sky Later, the combined Aerialbots fought alongside Raiden and Defensor against the Decepticon combiners, and were nearly crushed when Bruticus collapsed a building on their position. They were bailed out by the arrival of the Battleship Maximus. When Hot Rod began his search for the Matrix of Leadership on Earth, Air Raid and the Aerialbots returned to the humans' planet to assist him. They confronted the Stunticons in the desert, pitting Superion against Menasor yet again. The battle was so fierce it eventually carried them to the Arctic where Hot Rod was searching. The Mystery of Planet Master

Air Raid and his flying comrades joined the Triple Changers in distracting the Decepticons long enough for Twincast to sneak inside Trypticon and gather data on the Madmachine. The Great Cassette OperationSometime later, Air Raid and the Aerialbots were on a research vessel that passed near a strange meteorite. The meteorite had been altered by Galvatron to produce magnetic warping waves whenever it detected metal, and so it sent the Aerialbots and their ship twisting through space. Although the Decepticons tried to intervene, the Autobots eventually recovered Air Raid and his injured colleagues. Approach of the Demon Meteorite

Following a lengthy repair cycle, Air Raid and the Aerialbots were ready for action when Galvatron and the Decepticons laid siege to Cybertron one last time. Transporting to Cybertron from Earth, they raced into battle (on foot, for some reason). Air Raid and the team got the drop on the Stunticons when they merged into Superion, smashing and scattering the 'Cons before they could form Menasor. Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 1 As the fighting continued, the Aerialbots battled Abominus as Superion and later separated to trade blaster fire with the Stunticons. The warring only came to an end once Scorponok's bombs blew up Vector Sigma and annihilated the planet.Cybertron Is in Grave Danger, Part 2

When a giant carnivorous plant attacked San Francisco, Ultra Magnus dispatched Air Raid and the Aerialbots to combat it. Although they made frequent bombing runs on the organism, the Aerialbots were unable to stop it. Only the arrival of Fortress and his powerful giant Transtector brought an end to the creature's rampage. {{storylink|Head On!! They immediately formed Superion upon entering the battle. Return of the Immortal Emperor

When one of Scorponok's Death Towers emerged in Washington D.C., Air Raid and the Aerialbots were dispatched to investigate it. As part of Superion, Air Raid participated in the Autobots final battle with Scorponok's Decepticons at the North Pole. He lent his energies to the Headmasters' Head Formation to revitalize Fortress Maximus at the critical moment. The Final Showdown on Earth (Part 2)
Generation 1
noteukonly

Thanks to his previous connection to the Creation Matrix, Buster Witwicky began experiencing dreams and visions of new Transformers, beginning with an etching of Superion he made without even being consciously aware of it. Devastation Derby! By sharing his visions with Optimus Prime, Buster was able to clarify the images and understand the future of the evolution of the Cybertronian race—amalgam model robots like the Constructicons' Devastator, capable of a more-streamlined merging into a more powerful form. It was these visions which allowed Optimus Prime and Wheeljack to conceive of and construct the Aerialbots. Second Generation!

Working on a plan to reverse engineer the gestalt technology the Decepticons used to create Devastator, Optimus Prime and the Autobots staged a daring raid on the Decepticon base of operations, giving Bumblebee enough time to digitally record the Constructicons' electrical transformation pattern for study. Command Performances! Working off that blueprint, Wheeljack successfully created Air Raid and the Aerialbots. During the new warriors' testing phase, however, the Autobots were alerted to a Decepticon operation at Hoover Dam. Only the Aerialbots were fast enough to reach the location in time, and so Prime was forced to send them into battle before their programming was completed.

Air Raid proved to be the most effective of the new Aerialbots in battle. After his fellow jets took a few hits in battle with the Cybertronian Seekers, Air Raid singlehandedly shook their formation and tore up Ramjet's nosecone with his torque rifle, giving the other Aerialbots time to regroup.

The Aerialbots eventually turned the tide on the Decepticons and drove them off, giving them time to focus on the energy siphon which was the core of the problem. At Silverbolt's command, they merged into Superion and began dismantling the drill device. A problem arose, however, when Bombshell's cerebro-shell controlled pawn Ricky Vasquez pointed Megatron (in his gun mode) at the giant Autobot. Because the majority of the Aerialbots were not programmed specifically to protect human life, Superion only saw a potential threat that needed to be eliminated. As the human fought against the Decepticons' control, Silverbolt too fought inside Superion's gestalt mind to protect the human. In the end, Silverbolt was forced to disengage Superion to keep him from destroying the human. Luckily, Ricky was more successful and managed to break the cerebro-shell's hold long enough to point Megatron at the drill and destroy it, ending the threat. Aerialbots over America!

After the near disaster at Hoover Dam, Optimus Prime had the Aerialbots shut down and their programming completely erased. Returned to a blank slate, he then inputted fully-programmed personalities for them with the Matrix before their next mission. It, uh...didn't help. In battle with Menasor as Superion, the Aerialbots were attacked by Circuit Breaker, deactivated, and captured by RAAT. It was only a lucky break that they were eventually freed. Heavy Traffic!

As Grimlock took over the Autobots, Air Raid and the other Aerialbots took an extended leave of absence from the war, since the Dinobot commander focused Autobot resources on repairing their fallen comrades and prepping the Ark to become spaceworthy again.
Sometime later, it was Air Raid, Skydive, and Fireflight who were the first to respond to a distress call from Buster Witwicky, the Autobots' old human ally who had been prisoner to the Decepticons for nearly a year. This led the combined Autobot and Decepticon forces into battle with Starscream, who had acquired the nigh-infinite power of the Underbase for himself. The Aerialbots were his first victims, wiped out in a single blast of cosmic power in the skies over New York City. Dark Star

Along with the other deactivated Autobots aboard the Ark, Air Raid and the Aerialbots were eventually revived by the Nucleon super-energy Grimlock and the Dinobots recovered from Hydrus Four.
Earthforce
earthforcefiction

One dark and stormy night, Air Raid heard a commotion in the halls of Earthforce's makeshift shuttle base, and turned on the lights to find Skydive and Wheeljack struggling with each other in the dark. The story was, Skydive had come by to relieve Wheeljack from guard duty, only to find the post abandoned and signs of a serious struggle in place of his comrade. There was a smoldering patch of ground, a hastily discarded blaster, and animal tracks all over. Thinking quickly, Skydive concluded that one of the Predacons had entered the base and ambushed Wheeljack where he sat. He rushed back to the shuttle and found the door had been forced. Seeing a shadowy figure carrying a heavy burden in the dark, Skydive figured it for the Predacon carrying Wheeljack's remains and LEAPT into action!

As it turned out, Wheeljack had just overheated the makeshift heating unit he had brought out to keep warm. Getting tangled in the smoking heater, Wheeljack knocked over his own table and broke the lamp. The noise brought an angry polar bear over, and a frantic Wheeljack tore out of there carrying the still smoldering heater, forcing the door to the shuttle when he reached it. Then some NUT jumped him from out of nowhere!

Air Raid suggested everyone go to bed and forget the incident ever happened. The motion carried. Mystery!

Air Raid was present with the entire Earthforce team outside Autobot Earthbase when Wheeljack unveiled his brand-new unbreachable defensive system. This was unfortunate, as Wheeljack had forgotten that, once activated, the system could only be turned off from the inside. Prowl elected to run the gauntlet and reach the shutdown console inside, and the Aerialbots provided air support for him. Air Raid and his buddies gunned down the Acid Bats at the entryway, giving Prowl his chance to get through. The House that Wheeljack Built!

After the defeat of Bludgeon and his Decepticons on Klo, the Autobots split into smaller combat units throughout the universe. Once Optimus Prime and Grimlock learned of the threat posed by the second generation Cybertronian army, though, the Autobot forces reconsolidated under their command. Air Raid and the other Aerialbots were first seen after the Autobots had retreated to an asteroid sanctuary for retraining. They were, um, outsmarted by Hot Rod. The Power and the Glory Later, he was rescued by the Decepticon Skywarp in the skies over Ethos while battling Cybertronians. Escalation! Still, he managed to do a little better against the Cybertronians the second time around, popping jets out of the sky so that the Dinobots could, ah... greet them on the ground below. Total War!
After Silverbolt was reformatted into a new Nucleon-free body, he was reunited with Air Raid and the rest of the Aerialbots, flying scouting missions for Ultra Magnus's Cybertronian Civil Defense. They were recalled to base before they were able to stumble upon Soundwave's Neo-Decepticons, which may have been fortunate as Soundwave had Monstructor waiting for them. Destiny, Part Three Soon after that Air Raid and the Aerialbots flew alongside Blades as he located Ultra Magnus, missing since his first bout with Galvatron, and updated him regarding the arrival of Bludgeon's Warworld and its invading army of Blitz Engines above Cybertron. Destiny, Part Four Air Raid and the Aerialbots then joined Jetfire, Blades, Doubleheader, Skyhammer, Cloudraker, Dogfight and Crossblades in attacking the Warworld directly, providing a distraction so that the Wreckers could sneak aboard. Destiny, Part Five
At some point in Cybertronian history, roughly around the time of the Dark Ages, Air Raid and his Aerialbot comrades became a combiner subgroup, able to merge to form Superion. Because Superion and his fellow super-robots began causing too much sheer devastation during the war, however, the Crisis Intervention Accords were signed by the various factions, prohibiting the use of super-robots. Combiner sub-group members could either join different factions separately (like Motormaster) or remain together as a neutral, unaligned group (like the Protectobots). What Air Raid and the Aerialbots chose to do is unknown. Transformers: War Within: The Dark Ages

At some point in the late 20th century, Air Raid and the Aerialbots joined the crew of the Ark in defeating the Decepticons on Earth, only to be deactivated when the Ark II exploded in mid-air on its journey back to Cybertron. Prime Directive issue 1 In reality the ship was sabotaged by the rogue engineer-turned arms dealer Adam Rook, known as Lazarus, and General Robert Hallo, who planned on reprogramming the Transformers into the service of the United States military. The Aerialbots were some of the few Transformers who were not recovered by Lazarus for his reprogramming venture, now aimed at hiring out the Transformers to the highest bidder. Instead, they lay immobile in the Arctic waters until reactivated as Superion in 2002 by Optimus Prime, using the power of the Matrix of Leadership. Prime Directive issue 2

Air Raid and the Aerialbots in their Superion form, battled the Decepticons in the Northwest Territories of Canada Prime Directive issue 3 and again in San Francisco. However, during the initial skirmish, Superion was broken down into his individual components by the Seekers, and the Autobots watched in horror as Devastator hoisted Air Raid in his hand in triumph. Prime Directive issue 4 When Megatron failed to convince Optimus Prime to join his cause, the Autobots were freed and proceeded to clobber the Decepticons, with Air Raid punched Starscream. However, the insane General Hallo betrayed the Autobots by launching a nuclear missile at San Francisco in the hopes of wiping out all the Transformers. Before Optimus Prime could stop them, the Aerialbots formed Superion and intercepted the missile, ramming it head-on. Superion, and by extension the Aerialbots, were destroyed in stopping the missile. Prime Directive issue 6
Led by Silverbolt, he and the other Autobot fliers attacked Kimia Facility and fought with the many Sweeps defending it. Chaos Part Two: Numbers
After the war ended years later, Air Raid and his fellow Aerialbots worked crowd control on the Decepticons after Ratbat was murdered. After watching waaaaaaaaay too many pulp detective movies, Chase goes undercover to discover Evan and Myles's latest plan, making the rest of the team wonder if he's turned against them.

Synopsis
With Crawfish Week in full swing, Heatwave, Boulder and Blades are watching a crawfish race commentated by Huxley Prescott, unaware that a shadowy figure is creeping up on them. Chase grabs the figure, only to find it's Cody in disguise. Cody explains he's playing the villain in the school play, a concept that confuses Chase, so Cody suggests watching some detective movies. Their crawfish race viewing is interrupted by the news of a break-in at the museum. Evan and Myles are in the process of stealing a chunk of rock when the team arrives. The two thieves jump on their hoverboards, and when Heatwave activates the anti-theft system, Myles uses a remote to turn the robotic claws against the rescue team. As the pair escape, Chase cuts himself free and smashes the claw holding Heatwave, but the two Bots are kept busy by the security system. Boulder manages to pull out the pneumatic cabling, deactivating the claws, and the team begins to search for the two criminals. Graham identifies the material they took as mechanite.

Evan and Myles arrive at a remote abandoned building, where they plug the piece of mechanite into their Tech Wrecker. As Myles demonstrates with a calculator, it disables anything with circuits. That night, Heatwave finds Chase watching old detective movies and too busy for training maneuvers. In the morning, Cody looks for Chase, whom he thinks would benefit from practicing the play. Dani finds Chase sitting in a darkened room, narrating everything pulp detective style and wearing a hat. Cody alerts everyone to the fact that someone's interfering with Huxley's broadcast, as Evan and Myles are stealing the satellite dish from atop his van. The rescue team rolls out, with Chase continuing to narrate. Chief Burns doesn't think much of Blades's suggestion Evan and Myles just want to see the Pets on Ice marathon, and wonders aloud what they're up to. The Bots try to create a road block, but the getaway car is only stopped by a tire-bursting laser. Evan and Myles promptly pile into Chase, whom Chief has left unattended. The others are surprised when Chase compliantly allows the pair to drive him off. Chief is unable to raise Chase on the comm, and Cody reports that they've driven into an area with deactivated cameras.

The two criminals reach their hideout and take the satellite dish to add to their Tech Wrecker. While they do that, Chase checks out their base and finds a plan suggesting they're going to hit the laboratory next, however he finds his comm has been jammed fo he's unable to alert the rest of the team. He's interrupted from investigating further by Evan and Myles, but he manages to convince the pair that he is obliged to follow their orders by hopping up and down like a chicken and repeating "Evan and Myles rule. The Burnses just drool." The trio head to the lab, where Evan and Myles send Chase inside to steal Floatium. He's able to bypass Trex simply because the dinosaur knows him, but accidentally trips a silent alarm. When he emerges with the Floatium and they head back down the road, they're met with a road block of Rescue Bots. On the pair's instructions, Chase repeats the insult they taught him earlier and crashes the roadblock. The confused team wonder if Chase has turned against them, though Cody thinks he's emulating the detective movies.

At the abandoned warehouse, Evan and Myles turn on their Tech Wrecker and spray it with Floatium, causing it to rise into the air. They activate a shield to protect Chase and their other electronic equipment. As the light from the Tech Wrecker spreads across town, it knocks out anything electric, and the two criminals head out to do some petty theft. Chase grabs the shield generator and heads for home. At the fire station, emergency calls start coming in, and the team emerges to see the Tech Wrecker's beam coming closer. Chase arrives in time to shield the other Rescue Bots, though Kade's game of pinball is interrupted just as he's beating Graham's high score. The human portion of the team starts heading downtown on scooters to rescue people and stop the crime spree Evan and Myles have now embarked on, while the Rescue Bots, trapped in a bubble little bigger than they are, make their way awkwardly to the abandoned warehouse. Chief and Dani help Mr Harrison out of a tree and Kade extracts people from a lift, while Graham and Cody are attending to a crashed car when they spot the two petty criminals. The pair quickly apprehended. The Rescue Bots reach the warehouse, and after a brief discussion about trying to think like criminals, hit on the idea of using the Floatium reach the Tech Wrecker. The device is soon deactivated.

As Evan and Myles are marched into the jail, Heatwave tells Chase to let the rest of them in on his plan next time, and Chase announces he's going to help Cody practice his play.
"The air was heavy. Heavy with the fog of lawlessness. That's when she walked in... and asked me the one question I wasn't prepared to answer."<br />
Real-world references
*Heatwave's question about the sharks being busy is likely a reference to the annual "Shark Week" television event presented by Discovery Communications (the co-owner of the Hub Network) on their various networks.
*We will now never know what to do when we find an unattended crawfish, thanks to Evan and Myles cutting off the interview with Mayor Luskey.

: Part of the second wave of Power Core Combiners 5-pack figures, the Destructicons are a set of four armored vehicles like something out of Mad Max. Each one has a square socket for a Power Core Combiner connection; when attached via the blue plugs on a Commander figure, the vehicles automatically transform into a super-robot limb, and snap back to vehicle mode when disconnected. The armored truck drone sometimes slides in the socket, causing the leg to be on diagonally or even fall off. Despite the universal connector, each drone can only form one limb type (but can be swapped from left to right):
