[[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]] recites a passage from the [[Covenant of Primus]], foretelling that a perpetual conflict will culminate when the forty-seven spheres align. Despite the other [[Autobot]]s' lack of faith, [[Ratchet (Prime)|Ratchet]] realizes that the "world forged of chaos" referred to in the prophecy is [[Earth]]—and that the alignment will occur in a matter of days.

Aboard the ''[[Nemesis (Prime)|Nemesis]]'', [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]] explains to [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]] that he sought the [[Dark Energon|blood]] of [[Unicron]] so that he could conquer worlds with [[Terrorcon (Prime)|undead armies]]. Knock Out assures him that more Dark Energon awaits amongst the stars, but advises him not to push himself, since he was in stasis. Megatron then claims that he is the "rising darkness" of which the prophecy speaks.

[[Jack Darby|Jack]], [[Raf Esquivel|Raf]], and [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]] find a picture of [[Bumblebee (Prime)|Bumblebee]] while searching a conspiracy website. Raf replaces the image with a dancing cat, which makes Ratchet laugh. Jack then invites Optimus to take a look, but is flatly denied. Ratchet then states that, before he became a [[Prime (rank)|Prime]], Optimus behaved quite similarly to Jack. [[William Fowler|Agent Fowler]] suddenly interrupts and reveals that the [[Decepticon]]s have been stealing components to build a second [[space bridge]]. Back aboard the ''Nemesis'', Knock Out and [[Soundwave (Prime)|Soundwave]] inform Megatron that the only item left on the list is an ample power source, which can be found in a heavily fortified human base. [[Airachnid]] could simply tunnel in, but Megatron rather angrily declares that the time for stealth is over, and he sends a massive squad of [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicons]] to retrieve it. Optimus warns Fowler to have his troops evacuate, for fear of human casualties.

Optimus, [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]], and [[Arcee (Prime)|Arcee]] arrive to fend off the Vehicons, and all goes well until Megatron himself heads out toward the battlefield. En route, he spots Bumblebee, who was taking Raf racing. Megatron opens fire, frying Bumblebee's systems and knocking Raf out cold. Megatron arrives at the base just as the Autobots disable the last of his drones, and he taunts Optimus as Bumblebee arrives whilst carrying a wounded Raf. Bulkhead restrains the enraged scout before Optimus orders Arcee to take him and Raf back to base. Megatron then ascends onto the ''Nemesis'' with the power source. Unbeknownst to Megatron, Optimus and Bulkhead climb aboard the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s hull.

Back at [[Autobot Outpost Omega One]], Ratchet panics that his tools are wrong for human examination, and Jack suggests that they call in [[June Darby|his mother]]. Meanwhile, Megatron has another vision in which he sees a sinister face and a volcano. He then orders Knock Out and Airachnid to complete the space bridge, as there is something he must attend to. June arrives at the Autobot base and quickly unnerves Ratchet with the knowledge that Raf will die unless she can stabilize him immediately. Bumblebee vents his frustration on a nearby wall, but Arcee manages to calm him...a little. Ratchet regrets having not bothered to learn human science and medicine, despite accepting the children into their lives. He then states that he has grown to need Rafael, just as Raf needs him.

Bulkhead and Optimus storm the ''Nemesis'', and Optimus claims to have had a change of heart: He orders Bulkhead back to base with the power source, declaring that there is something he must do. He then muses grimly that he has realized that Autobots and Decepticons will never co-exist peacefully, and he vows to destroy Megatron.

As the planetary alignment nears, Megatron arrives at the volcano site, and Optimus uses a Vehicon comm link to challenge him. Optimus soon joins him at the base of the volcano, and the two exchange brief banter before engaging each other in fierce battle.

Meanwhile, Ratchet realizes that Raf has been infected with [[Dark Energon]] and theorizes that exposure to normal energon should cure him. He takes a sample from Bumblebee, placing Raf in a sealed chamber to test his theory as the others watch helplessly. Rafael soon opens his eyes, his pulse stabilizing.

Optimus appears to defeat Megatron and prepares to deal the final blow, but the Decepticon leader catches his sword with unusual strength as the volcano begins to erupt. Strange purple markings glow to life across his body, and he quickly overpowers Optimus. He realizes that the volcano is spewing forth Dark Energon, and he moves to kill Optimus, as he saw himself doing in a previous vision.

* When the flying Vehicons arrive to help retrieve the power source from the military base, the Vehicon ground units which stole it in the first place vanish.
* As Megatron extends his blade when Optimus leaps at him, the sound effect is that of his cannon firing.
* When Optimus tries to strike the finishing blow, he's standing on Megatron's chest. Once Megatron catches the blade, Optimus is standing much further back.

===Continuity errors===
*Megatron's jet-mode cannons score a direct hit on Bumblebee, yet do no apparent damage other than briefly stopping him. When Arcee was hit in "[[Darkness Rising, Part 5]]", it nearly killed her. On a similar note, Bumblebee should have taken the brunt of the Dark Energon exposure, but only Raf shows any symptoms. Arcee was weakened by exposure to a few drops from [[Cliffjumper (Prime)|Cliffjumper]]'s animated corpse in "[[Darkness Rising, Part 2]]". However, Optimus tells Arcee to look after Raf AND Bumblebee; its likely that Bee's just being strong for his partner's sake.
*Bumblebee knows Raf is injured, so why does he drive nearly two miles (three clicks) to the battlefield instead of just calling for a Groundbridge immediately?
*Raf says he can't see without his glasses in "[[Shadowzone (episode)|Shadowzone]]", but his first person shot is perfectly clear. This is a common thing for TV and movies, but still...

*Megatron refers to his feeling by saying "it's as if" he can hear Unicron's thoughts, which he gibbered about back in "[[Darkness Rising, Part 3]]".
*The story revolves around the idea that Dark Energon is out in space, another "Darkness Rising" plot point. Turns out that it's not as far out as the characters think...
*Agent Fowler's men at first thought it was [[MECH]] who stole the phase conductor until they found the security image of Soundwave.
*[[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] demonstrated that energon does not agree with human physiology in "[[Darkness Rising, Part 3]]" and "[[Darkness Rising, Part 4|Part 4]]", which Ratchet confirms here. Apparently, Dark Energon has similar effects, but the two types cancel each other out (at least in a human).

* Ratchet mentions that he has known Optimus for longer than any of the other Earth-stationed Autobots, even before he was a Prime. * At the beginning of the episode, as Megatron explains why he sought out the blood of Unicron, Knock Out totally checks out his "nails" in the background. How vain can you get?!
* Megatron laments that the only shard of Dark Energon he has is the one in his chest. It would seem that, despite his machinations being discovered, Starscream never gave Megatron's original shard back.
* Bulkhead states that he has never seen Optimus "laugh, cry or lose his cool". While it could just be an offhand expression, this inadvertently raises an interesting question as to whether Cybertronians actually have the ability to cry...[[Humanization#Crying|hmmmmmmmm]].

I was watching this episode, and I noticed Ratchet uses Energon to heal Raf from Bumblebee, who possibly needs it himself considering he was shot by Megatron (and, of course, he might be infected with Dark Energon himself), instead of using some from another, healthier Autobot, such as Arcee or Bulkhead. Just curious, but is it worth mentioning the similarities between the scene where Knockout's checking out his fingernails in the background, to a similar scene involving Airazor from the Beast Wars episode, ''Spider's Game'', as seen here? :Dark Energon is refered to as The Blood Of Unicron, so it's probably safe to make the connection there. However, there is a link in the article that points out that the face in Megatron's vision is Unicron. This is much less certain, and probably shouldn't be there. One million years ago, [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] was at relative peace. Most Transformers were nothing more than citizens of the planet, the [[Autobot]] army simply guarded the majestic [[Cyber City]], and no one had heard of "Decepticons". The standard-sized Transformers lived alongside villages of the smaller-sized [[Mini-Con]]s, and all of them were caught unawares by the sudden rise of Megatron. He and his soldiers came [[Decepticon Headquarters (Armada)|seemingly out of nowhere]], sweeping through Mini-Con villages and performing [[Mecha-sectioning|horrible experiments]] on the diminutive Transformers. The Decepticons had discovered how to rewire Mini-Cons to interface with them, [[Powerlinx|drawing power]] from their new slaves. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 1|Armada #1}}

After capturing all but [[Sparkplug (Armada)|a]] [[Air Defense Mini-Con Team (Armada)|handful]] of Mini-Cons, Megatron and his enhanced troops assaulted Cyber City, defeating the Autobots in a single battle. But while Optimus Prime's forces retreated, the rogue Mini-Cons infiltrated Decepticon headquarters and spirited all of their imprisoned brethren away in a [[Exodus (Armada)|spaceship]]. To Megatron's great consternation, the ship fled from Cybertron to [[Earth|parts unknown]]. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 2|Armada #2}}

Despite this loss, the Decepticons still held the power of the Mini-Cons they had been using in the battle of Cyber City, and this gave them continual combat superiority. Cybertron was completely unprepared for Megatron's assault; thousands of citizens submitted themselves to slavery. Megatron's rule brought chaos and injustice, and while the Autobots never gave up their fight, they had to resort to guerrilla tactics from underground bases. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 3|Armada #3}}

At some point, Prime would recall having heard about Megatron for the first time while he (Prime) was still in [[Cybertronian Military Academy|military academy]]. Prime said that the rumors surrounding Megatron were positive: That he was an unbeatable warrior with an unrivaled intellect. But Megatron soon turned his abilities against the Cybertronian governments, raising the Decepticon army in a march of conquest. After Prime's first field mission, he witnessed Megatron's ruthlessness in the form of a devastated energon refinery filled with the dead and dying. Over the next million years, the Mini-Con empowered Decepticons steadily conquered the planet. Concerned that the conflict could escalate and put other worlds at risk, the [[Universal Peacekeeping Committee]] sent the famed mediator [[Fflaxl]] to the relatively unknown Transformer homeworld in an attempt to settle the dispute between the Autobot and Decepticon "tribes" peacefully. However, just as he arrived, Megatron and Optimus Prime were in the midst of a battle, and Optimus Prime was sent flying, eventually landing on [[Bix]], Fflaxl's bodyguard. The diplomat, seeing the scale of the war and its participants, decided that some conflicts were best left untouched and that everything would work out in the end. {{storylink|Armada Preview}}

The situation changed drastically when [[Rad White|some]] [[Alexis Thi Dang|human]] [[Carlos Lopez|children]] stumbled upon the crashed Mini-Con ship on the distant world of [[Earth]] and activated a distress beacon. The Decepticons, controlling Cybertron's communications satellites, intercepted the signal and mounted a [[space bridge]] assault on Earth. Meanwhile, the Autobots, having hacked into the communications system, also saw the signal and made a spacebridge trip of their own. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 3|Armada #3}} Megatron thinking nothing of rampaging across an inhabited planet that had nothing to do with the Cybertronian civil war, attacked Sparkplug's group and their new human friends in [[Science City]], declaring that for escaping his grasp, he would not simply rewire them for powerlinking, he would take them apart piece by piece. Fortunately, the Mini-Cons and the children inadvertently led the Decepticons to an Autobot ambush, and the two forces inevitably clashed. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 4|Armada #4}} Megatron was furious that Prime had still refused to bow down to him despite all the losses the Autobots had suffered, and arrogantly powerlinked with all the Mini-Cons the Decepticons had at their disposal, leaving his lieutenants vulnerable. Megatron, however, was undeterred by the Mini-Cons' newfound resistance. In addition to the Mini-Cons he had maintained lordship over for millennia, Megatron also gained control of the [[Air Defense Mini-Con Team (Armada)|Air Defense Team]], reconfigured them and warped them into the mighty [[Star Saber (Armada)|Dark Saber]] sword. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 6|Armada #6}} Gloating over his newfound power, Megatron lead an attack on [[Lincoln]], [[South Dakota]] to draw the Autobots out of [[Autobase|Autobase: Earth]], but was unable to effectively wield it, partly became his own Mini-Con [[Leader-1 (Armada)|Leader-1]] wasn't giving him enough power to control it, and he lacked respect for the sword's power. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 7|Armada #7}} Soon after, all activated Mini-Cons on Earth were "summoned" by a mysterious obelisk that landed in [[Tranquility, Kansas|Tranquility]], [[Kansas]], and the Decepticons followed, intending to scoop up all the known Mini-Cons in one fell swoop. However, in his haste, Megatron was unprepared for impressive defenses the [[Destruction Mini-Con Team]] had erected on their new home and was forced to regroup on the dark side of the Moon. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 9|Armada #9}} Realizing a frontal assault would not win this battle, Megatron had [[Mini-Con Moonbase breacher|drilling equipment]] brought up and simply drilled his way into the Mini-Con rebel base. While he defended himself from Mini-Con counter attacks he sent Leader-1 ahead to deactivate the moon base's various defenses, a decision he would come to regret. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 10|Armada #10}} By relying on his much-abused Mini-Con slave for coordination and information in his attempt to seize the escaping Mini-Con rebels, he gave Leader-1 the means to seal him in a security room and almost torture him to death. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 11|Armada #11}}

He came out of this with the Destruction Mini-Con Team as his prisoners, only to find they had a failsafe in their systems that gave out both unfettered power and incredible pain to anyone powerlinking to them by force. Having tasted that power, Megatron was unwilling to let it go, and so actually made a deal with [[Dualor (Armada)|Dualor]] in return for it, allowing the Destruction team a say in how the Decepticons would operate, ''even though'' he knew they would end up betraying him. With this in mind, he used [[Cyclonus (Armada)|Cyclonus]] as a guinea pig. Meanwhile, [[Skywarp (Armada)|Skywarp]], [[Sideways (RID)|Sideways]] and [[Wheeljack (Armada)|Wheeljack]]'s group in [[Death Valley]], [[California]] had launched the [[Solar Scalpel]], Megatron's new solar ray-reflective superweapon. {{storylink|Fire & Ice}} As he suspected, the Destruction Team did not keep their end of the bargain and overloaded Cyclonus with uncontrollable power. Still he had "bigger fish to fry": a group of Mini-Con escapees from the Moon had crashed in [[Alaska]] and an [[Autobot shuttle]] had been sent to rescue them. Though he could have easily destroyed the Autobots with one shot, he intentionally missed and only destroyed their shuttle, arrogant in the belief that the victory would be so much more satisfying if the Autobots could see their imminent destruction. Once again, Megatron's hubris was his undoing, as the Autobot-allied [[Space Mini-Con Team]] destroyed the Solar Scalpel before it could be used to harm the Autobots or the Mini-Cons. At some point, Megatron somehow gained even more power and a new paint job, rechristening himself "Galvatron". By itself, this new form was more powerful than his old body ''with'' Mini-Con enhancement. Still refusing to accept any limits, Galvatron discarded Leader-1 and sought to create the ultimate Mini-Con in his place. He began with [[Clench (Armada)|Clench]] and "upgraded" him with parts extracted from other victims. Clench took to his servitude gladly, grateful for the power of his new body. This was just one example of Galvatron's increased ability to manipulate those around him to serve his own ends. When [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] suddenly vanished, Megatron led an attack on Autobase: Earth, seriously trashing [[Red Alert (Armada)|Red Alert]] and [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]], and critically wounding [[Smokescreen (Armada)|Smokescreen]] in the process. This was disrupted by the machinations of [[Unicron]], whose heralds took out the Decepticons' Cybertron base and Earth forces. {{storylink|Worlds Collide, Part 2 of 4}} Megatron fought a vicious battle to the death with [[Galvatron (G1)|an immensely powerful herald]], and despite his best efforts, the being was not fazed even when attacked with Leader-1's powerlink augmentation. Megatron would have been destroyed if not for the intervention of the Air Defense Team, who formed the Star Saber (corrupted as the Dark Saber) once again. The herald was swiftly defeated {{storylink|Worlds Collide, Part 3 of 4}} and was torn apart out of sheer spite. Regrouping after this, he formed an alliance with the returned Optimus to get "payback." The Decepticons joined the Autobots and Mini-Cons in battling Unicron, who emerged from another dimension via a portal close to Cybertron. While almost all of the Transformers were pouring their efforts into a direct assault, Megatron covertly flew to Unicron's surface with the intent of striking a deal. Just as he was landing, [[Over-Run (Armada)|Over-Run]] opened the [[Mini-Con Matrix]] and dealt Unicron a critical blow. Megatron changed his plan to simple looting, but before he could even begin, Hot Shot, Red Alert, and [[Scavenger (Armada)|Scavenger]] shot him at pointblank range in revenge for Smokescreen. In the end, a truce was settled where the Mini-Cons would be exiled, never to be used as tools of war again. However, Megatron betrayed the truce, attacking with the full force of the Decepticon fleet in an attempt to capture all the Mini-Cons in one fell swoop. The Autobots, anticipating this turn of events, launched their fleet to protect the fleeing [[Exodus (Armada)|Mini-Con ship ]] as it warped away.

In the year 2010, Cybertron received a Mini-Con homing beacon from a small primitive world known as [[Earth]], unwittingly activated by a group of human children. Megatron led his most loyal Decepticon warriors to this planet in search of the Mini-Cons, only to discover his arch-enemy [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] had followed to stop him. {{storylink|First Encounter}}

After a tactical retreat, it was revealed that the Decepticons had established a base in the ruined hulk of the Mini-Con ship on Earth's [[Moon (moon)|Moon]]. While pondering his next move, Megatron discovered a [[Mini-Con storage panel]] buried in the moon dust. Activating it, he discovered it contained his old Mini-Con partner, [[Leader-1 (Armada)|Leader-1]]. Counting upon this as his edge over the Autobots, he reconfigured the vehicle modes of his forces and set out to capture the human children and their Mini-Con friends. After surrounding them, he was thwarted yet again by the timely arrival of Optimus Prime and the other Autobots. Megatron went on to run a successful campaign, regularly capturing Mini-Cons and successfully combining the first two Mini-Con weapons, the [[Star Saber (Armada)|Star Saber]] and the [[Skyboom (Armada)|Skyboom Shield]]. Through the machinations of his tactician, [[Thrust (Armada)|Thrust]] (who was at the time indirectly being manipulated by [[Unicron]]), Megatron then acquired the final weapon, the [[Requiem Blaster]], which with the other two served to power the newly-built [[Hydra Cannon]]. The destructive force of his new weapon was unleashed against Earth, but Optimus Prime took the blast to save the planet, killing himself in the process.

Prime's death plunged Megatron into a deep depression, having lost his greatest opponent without the chance to finish him with his own hands. Thankfully for all concerned, the Mini-Cons were able to resurrect Optimus, restoring Megatron to his former self - but he soon underwent another change that allowed him to surpass all he had been, when he was among the Transformers who had their powers boosted by their Mini-Cons. Renaming himself "Galvatron," he returned to Cybertron with a renewed vigor for conquest. However, the emergence of the threat of Unicron was ignored by Galvatron, forcing his lieutenant [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]] to sacrifice himself to make his leader see the truth, and Galvatron again came to fear the end of his war in the face of Unicron's power.

Galvatron entered Unicron's body along with Optimus Prime, and was absorbed into the demi-god's body and mind, but when the Autobots' human allies freed the Mini-Cons from Unicron's thrall, Galvatron too was freed. Believing the threat of Unicron to be over, he challenged Prime to a final duel. However, the energies released in the battle reawakened Unicron, and Galvatron saw that the only way to end the circle was to destroy himself - sacrificing his life rather than live in an era of peace, Galvatron plunged himself into Unicron's maw, and in a flash, the two seemingly ceased to exist.

Although he was believed dead by both the Autobots and Decepticons, Megatron, like Unicron, had survived the final battle, his body now a decayed husk, absorbed into the equally damaged body of Unicron, where it lay for ten years. When the being called [[Alpha Quintesson]] began his plan to re-energize Unicron, Megatron saw his opportunity, siphoning off some of the [[Energon (Energon)|energon]] that Alpha Q's [[Terrorcon (Energon)|Terrorcons]] stole, working towards his own rebirth. To turn the Decepticons to his side, Alpha Q forged a sword from Megatron's [[spark]], but when an enraged [[Scorponok (Energon)|Scorponok]] stabbed Megatron's corpse with the blade, Megatron was born anew. Taking the sword for his own, he proceeded to take over Unicron's body, sending Alpha Q fleeing in Unicron's head, {{storylink|Megatron Resurrected}} and restarted his campaign against Earth and the Autobots, seeking energon to reactivate Unicron, who he would use as the ultimate weapon.

Megatron eventually succeeded in bringing Unicron to the vicinity of Cybertron and transforming the planet-eater to robot mode. However, in an attempt to stop him, Alpha Q rammed Unicron's head, charged with the positive energon of Earth, into Unicron's body. The resultant reaction between Earth's energon and the negatively-charged energon that powered Unicron tore [[Rift (Energon)|a rupture in reality]] that led to [[Alpha Q's universe|a new region of space]] {{storylink|Ripped Up Space}} where Alpha Q recreated all the planets Unicron had consumed. Megatron immediately saw these new worlds as targets to acquire more energon, and after another series of attacks, Megatron successfully amassed enough to fully reanimate Unicron. {{storylink|Optimus Supreme}} However, the Autobots managed to destroy Unicron's body for good, and the Chaos Bringer's consciousness invaded Megatron's body, taking over his mind. {{storylink|Unicron Perishes}}

Ten years later, Primus's plan to imprison Unicron's spark at the heart of the sun ultimately failed, leading the star to collapse, creating a [[Unicron Singularity|black hole]] which threatened the existence of Cybertron, and the rest of the universe. Escaping his confinement within the sun, Megatron enhanced his powers by merging his body with [[Armor of Unicron|the remnants of Unicron's shattered form]], increasing his power with the dark god's own.

As the Autobots prepared to evacuate Cybertron in the wake of disasters caused by the black hole, Megatron struck, approaching the unprotected ancient Transformer [[Vector Prime]], and stealing a holographic map containing locations of the [[Cyber Planet Key|Cyber Planet Keys]] that could be used to seal the black hole. Operating out of a fiery pocket dimension, Megatron schemed to used the world-shaping power of the Cyber Planet Keys and their focal [[Omega Lock]] to accelerate the universal degeneration created by the black hole, destroying the universe and using the keys to remake it in his own image. But before he could do this he had to face [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] once again. He almost had him but Scattorshot tried to help and Megatron made them crash into each other and shot a bolt of lightning at them. Vector Prime jumped at megatron but [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]] came and saved him. {{storylink|Fallen (episode)|Fallen}}

Megatron and Starscream then headed for Earth to find out what the Autobots were up to. He was greeted by Optimus, Vector Prime, [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]] and [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]] who managed to drive him away. {{storylink|Haven}}

Leaving [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]] and [[Thundercracker (Armada)|Thundercracker]] to search for the Omega Lock on Earth, Megatron located the resting place of the first Cyber Planet Key on [[Velocitron]], the Speed Planet. {{storylink|Hidden}} Recruiting the native troublemakers [[Ransack (Cybertron)|Ransack]] and [[Crumplezone (Cybertron)|Crumplezone]] to do his bidding, he deduced that the planet's racing trophy was the key. {{storylink|Landmine (episode)|Landmine}} After failing to defeat planet ruler [[Override (Cybertron)|Override]] in a race to learn more, however, he left Ransack and Crumplezone to compete in tournaments and win the trophy and turned his attention to the [[Jungle Planet (Cybertron)|Jungle Planet]], home of the second Cyber Planet Key, where he ingratiated himself with planet ruler [[Scourge (Cybertron)|Scourge]]. {{storylink|Search}} Both missions ultimately ended in failure, however, when the Autobots acquired the keys. {{storylink|Champion}} {{storylink|Primal}}

Attempting to find the third key, Megatron discovered that he had been betrayed by Starscream when the planet map - in reality, a duplicate switched out by Starscream - led him to a dead sector of space and sealed him within a metallic sphere. {{storylink|Trap}} Scourge was able to liberate him a short time later, but in that time, Starscream had obtained the third Cyber Planet Key, from Earth, for himself, along with the Omega Lock and other keys. Megatron made a beeline for his treacherous lieutenant, but was intercepted by the Autobots [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]], [[Red Alert (Armada)|Red Alert]] and [[Scattorshot (Cybertron)|Scattorshot]], who intended to hold him off until the other Autobots could stop Starscream. Starscream's attempts to harness the Earth Key, however, caused a release of its energies which endowed Megatron with a new Cyber Key power - the "Death Machine Gun," which he used to mow down the Autobots in his path. {{storylink|Revelation (episode)|Revelation}}

The Autobots managed to retake the keys from Starscream, but a further attack from Megatron saw the Decepticon leader steal them out from under Optimus Prime's nose and retreat into his pocket dimension. Prime pursued him through the portal and defeated him in a pitched battle, reacquiring the lock and returning to Cybertron. As Megatron attempted to follow him, Vector Prime combined his portal-opening powers with the Cyber Planet Keys and collapsed Megatron's dimension in upon itself, destroying the villain. {{storylink|Cybertron (episode)|Cybertron}}

This was not to be the end for Megatron, however, as the power of his Unicron armor sustained him as a ghost-like entity composed of pure darkness. In this state, he rematerialized on Cybertron and used Unicron's reformatting powers to upgrade the injured Crumplezone into Dark Crumplezone. As he came under attack from the Autobot [[Overhaul (Cybertron)|Leobreaker]], his regeneration completed and his physical body was restored, even as he used the remainder of the lingering darkness to create an evil doppelganger of Leobreaker, [[Nemesis Breaker]], out of the Autobot's own dark thoughts. {{storylink|Darkness (episode)|Darkness}} Merging with Nemesis Breaker to form Dark Claw Mode, Megatron battled Optimus Prime and Leobreaker's Savage Claw Mode and made a further play for the Omega Lock, until news of the location of the fourth and final Cyber Planet Key led him to withdraw. {{storylink|Escape (episode)|Escape}}

Guided through a spatial warp by the mysterious [[Soundwave (Cybertron)|Soundwave]] to [[Gigantion]], the Giant Planet, home of the final key, Megatron engaged the world's leader, [[Metroplex (Cybertron)|Metroplex]], in battle. Much to his surprise, however, he was utterly defeated in seconds. {{storylink|Giant}} Consumed with rage, the power of Unicron within his armor reached out and detected the energies of the Giant Planet's Cyber Planet Key, drawing upon them and infusing Megatron's body with them. Attacking the Autobots in a dark, shadowed form, he decimated most of their forces before being confronted by Optimus Prime and completing his transformation - once again, Megatron had become Galvatron. {{storylink|Fury}}

After taking revenge on Metroplex, Galvatron joined the race to acquire the Giant Planet key, which included a rematch with the reborn Hot Shot, Red Alert and Scattorshot. Yet again, the Autobots were able to acquire the key, but Galvatron then stole the completed Omega Lock, only to be attacked by Starscream, who battled with Galvatron for possession of the artifact. Galvatron ultimately claimed victory in the battle, with the sheer amount of energy released in the clash actually blasting Starscream (along with [[Sideways (RID)|Sideways]] and Soundwave, who were trying to nick the lock) into another dimension. {{storylink|Showdown (episode)|Showdown}} With the lock and keys now in his hands, Galvatron returned to the Black Hole, using his newfound power to accelerate its spread throughout the universe. When the Autobots managed to return to Cybertron (thanks to Vector Prime's sacrifice), Galvatron attacked them with the intent of ending them once and for all. The Autobots were no match for his enhanced strength, but they soon recieved reinforcements in the form of every other Cybertronian in the universe, forcing Galvatron to fall back. {{storylink|Homecoming (episode)|Homecoming}}

Despite being heavily outnumbered by the united forces of the Autobots, Galvatron remained confident, using the power of the Omega Lock to super-size his few remaining minions. In the ensuing battle, he retreated to the very core of the singularity (currently absorbing the Jungle Planet), where he was confronted by the five planet leaders. Despite absorbing the power of the Lock and becoming a giant himself, Galvatron was eventually defeated by his enemies, forcing him to throw the Omega Lock and the Cyber Planet Keys into the very core of the black hole in hopes of destroying the universe anyway. Unfortunately for him, Optimus grabbed the Lock (with some otherworldly aid from Vector Prime), and Primus' Spark was finally restored, allowing him to use the Ark to finally seal the black hole for good. Adding insult to injury, Galvatron's depowered troops found out that he had every intention of letting them die with the rest of the universe, and so abandoned the defeated Decepticon leader in the void. {{storylink|End}}

Having had ultimate power, only to see it torn from his grasp, Galvatron contemplated giving up. He was then (somehow) taunted by Starscream's spirit, who said that if he was to give up just like that, then he was "no Unicron." Starscream vanished but stayed as a memory. His crown, left floating in space after his demise, came to Galvatron, who clenched it close. He realized that his former lieutenant was right (though he was loath to admit it), and decided to continue his conquest. Flying to Jungle Planet, Galvatron damaged one of the planetary engines pushing it back towards the Space Bridge before warping to Cybertron and challenging Optimus Prime to one final duel. Battling on first Cybertron's surface, and then its moon, Galvatron generated a massive blade of dark energy, which Prime countered with Vector Prime's sword. As the two old enemies charged towards each other in a final strike, Prime impaled Galvatron, whose body crumbled and dissolved as he met his end once and for all. {{storylink|Unfinished}}

Back when Megatron first started terrorizing the Mini-Con population of Cybertron, he leraned that Mini-Cons were hiding at [[Autobot Command HQ]], and so he and his forces attacked the building. However, this was false information leaked to the Decepticons by [[Dualor (Armada)|Dualor]], who planned to assassinate Megatron by blowing the Autobot headquarters up. When the Autobots learned of this, they evacuated the building, distracting Megatron from entering the [[magno-web]] perimeter. Decepticlone '''Dropships''' are the standard form of transportation for Decepticlone forces. They are heavily armoured and thus resistant to most basic forms of weaponry, however, a Dropship can be brought down with either concentrated firepower or considerable force. Dropships have no offensive capabilities of their own, and it is unknown if they are piloted vehicles or have their own (limited) artificial intelligence. Dropships are used to combat the [[Autobot]]s by deploying squads of varying Decepticlones into the combat zone. Some Decepticlones may remain in the Dropship after the deployment, in which case the Dropship will hover above the ground and allow the remaining Decepticlones to attack from the air. Under these circumstances, Dropships will always pull out if they sustain too much damage, or if the Decepticlones onboard are destroyed. However, Dropships have a very low air speed, making them easy targets.

The presence of a Dropship always indicates an organised Decepticon/Decepticlone occupation in the area; their most basic function is to simply patrol a set path. The army's run by Wallies and the war's a no-hoper, but he's not totally clapped-out yet, so he'll give it a fair go. It's not the best attitude, but he'll share it with anyone without reserve. Astonishingly, the two jets with giant Decepticon insignias on them were actually Decepticons(!), [[Dirge (G1)|Dirge]] and [[Ramjet (G1)|Ramjet]], who tried to run for it in fear of Outback's respectable scanning abilities. The first batch of [[Virulent Clone]]s had already been completed, and the team found itself under attack before they ever reached the lab. Fallback and his team destroyed a number of clones, but, when Deathsaurus himself joined the fight, they were overwhelmed and captured. Millions of years ago, before the outbreak of the war, Outback learned that the famous racer [[Drag Strip (G1)|Drag Strip]] had gotten in league with the increasingly dangerous criminal [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]. He decided to take action and assassinate Drag Strip on his way to a race, but was interrupted and disarmed by the security guard [[Ironhide (G1)|Ironhide]], who had never heard of Megatron and was only doing his job. As Outback was taken into custody, he told Ironhide that it was thanks to blind, apathetic 'bots like him that a civil war was imminent. {{storylink|Iron in the Blood}}

During the war, Outback and [[Kup (G1)|Kup]] crash-landed on an unknown planet covered with radioactive crystals. When they attempted to use parts of their ship to create a transmitter, the radiation overloaded the generator, and Outback was killed in the explosion. Kup, however, was eventually driven insane by the radiation and not only talked to Outback's charred remains as though he were alive but used his severed arm as a club.

[[Springer (G1)|Springer]] was able to hack into the deceased Autobot's holo-emitter to try and send Kup a message that the Autobots were coming to rescue him, but the delusional Kup saw this as a ghost making threats upon his life. Outback's remains were further crushed by an errant swipe from one of the rescue party, sending Kup into another homicidal rage.

After Ironhide mysteriously woke up alone on an abandoned Cybertron, he had a strange vision or hallucination featuring Outback.
