'''A prophecy predicts dark times ahead, which Megatron intends to see through.'''

==Synopsis==
[[Image:PrimeEp23-MegatronKnockout.jpg|left|thumb|300px|Miiiight not be the best time to examine your manicure, Knock Out.]]

[[Optimus Prime (Prime)|Optimus Prime]] recites a passage from the [[Covenant of Primus]], foretelling that a perpetual conflict will culminate when the forty-seven spheres align. Despite the other [[Autobot]]s' lack of faith, [[Ratchet (Prime)|Ratchet]] realizes that the "world forged of chaos" referred to in the prophecy is [[Earth]]—and that the alignment will occur in a matter of days.

Aboard the ''[[Nemesis (Prime)|Nemesis]]'', [[Megatron (Prime)|Megatron]] explains to [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]] that he sought the [[Dark Energon|blood]] of [[Unicron]] so that he could conquer worlds with [[Terrorcon (Prime)|undead armies]]. Knock Out assures him that more Dark Energon awaits amongst the stars, but advises him not to push himself, since he was in stasis. Megatron then claims that he is the "rising darkness" of which the prophecy speaks.

[[Jack Darby|Jack]], [[Raf Esquivel|Raf]], and [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]] find a picture of [[Bumblebee (Prime)|Bumblebee]] while searching a conspiracy website. Raf replaces the image with a dancing cat, which makes Ratchet laugh. Jack then invites Optimus to take a look, but is flatly denied. Ratchet then states that, before he became a [[Prime (rank)|Prime]], Optimus behaved quite similarly to Jack. [[William Fowler|Agent Fowler]] suddenly interrupts and reveals that the [[Decepticon]]s have been stealing components to build a second [[space bridge]]. Back aboard the ''Nemesis'', Knock Out and [[Soundwave (Prime)|Soundwave]] inform Megatron that the only item left on the list is an ample power source, which can be found in a heavily fortified human base. [[Airachnid]] could simply tunnel in, but Megatron rather angrily declares that the time for stealth is over, and he sends a massive squad of [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicons]] to retrieve it. Optimus warns Fowler to have his troops evacuate, for fear of human casualties.

[[Image:PrimeEp23-BumblebeeRaf.jpg|right|thumb|300px|Where is your BS&P now???]]

Optimus, [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]], and [[Arcee (Prime)|Arcee]] arrive to fend off the Vehicons, and all goes well until Megatron himself heads out toward the battlefield. En route, he spots Bumblebee, who was taking Raf racing. Megatron opens fire, frying Bumblebee's systems and knocking Raf out cold. Megatron arrives at the base just as the Autobots disable the last of his drones, and he taunts Optimus as Bumblebee arrives whilst carrying a wounded Raf. Bulkhead restrains the enraged scout before Optimus orders Arcee to take him and Raf back to base. Megatron then ascends onto the ''Nemesis'' with the power source. Unbeknownst to Megatron, Optimus and Bulkhead climb aboard the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s hull.

Back at [[Autobot Outpost Omega One]], Ratchet panics that his tools are wrong for human examination, and Jack suggests that they call in [[June Darby|his mother]]. Meanwhile, Megatron has another vision in which he sees a sinister face and a volcano. He then orders Knock Out and Airachnid to complete the space bridge, as there is something he must attend to. June arrives at the Autobot base and quickly unnerves Ratchet with the knowledge that Raf will die unless she can stabilize him immediately. Bumblebee vents his frustration on a nearby wall, but Arcee manages to calm him...a little. Ratchet regrets having not bothered to learn human science and medicine, despite accepting the children into their lives. He then states that he has grown to need Rafael, just as Raf needs him.

Bulkhead and Optimus storm the ''Nemesis'', and Optimus claims to have had a change of heart: He orders Bulkhead back to base with the power source, declaring that there is something he must do. He then muses grimly that he has realized that Autobots and Decepticons will never co-exist peacefully, and he vows to destroy Megatron.

As the planetary alignment nears, Megatron arrives at the volcano site, and Optimus uses a Vehicon comm link to challenge him. Optimus soon joins him at the base of the volcano, and the two exchange brief banter before engaging each other in fierce battle.

[[Image:PrimeEp23-PrimeMegatron.jpg|left|thumb|300px|"Why throw away your life so recklessly?" <br> "I keep [[The many deaths of Optimus Prime|''trying'']] to, but Hasbro won't [[To sell toys|let me]] anymore!"]]

Meanwhile, Ratchet realizes that Raf has been infected with [[Dark Energon]] and theorizes that exposure to normal energon should cure him. He takes a sample from Bumblebee, placing Raf in a sealed chamber to test his theory as the others watch helplessly. Rafael soon opens his eyes, his pulse stabilizing.

Optimus appears to defeat Megatron and prepares to deal the final blow, but the Decepticon leader catches his sword with unusual strength as the volcano begins to erupt. Strange purple markings glow to life across his body, and he quickly overpowers Optimus. He realizes that the volcano is spewing forth Dark Energon, and he moves to kill Optimus, as he saw himself doing in a previous vision.

"Curse my Cybertronian pride! We've welcomed these humans into our lives, yet I bothered to learn so little of their science...or medicine."
:—'''Ratchet''' angsts over his inability to help Raf.

"I have been foolish not to see what history has proven over and over again...that Autobots and Decepticons will never mend their ways. If there can be no diplomatic solution to this perpetual conflict, then I must not allow more darkness to fall upon this or any planet. Megatron must be destroyed!"
:—It's about slaggin' time, '''Optimus Prime'''.

"I have come for Megatron, and him alone. Stand down and be spared."

"Megatron, today you answer for your crimes against Cybertron and against humanity. One shall stand..."<br>
"And one shall fall. ''You'', Optimus Prime!"
:—'''Optimus Prime''' and '''Megatron''', who is very tired of this speech.

"Your defeat was foreseen here by the ancients. What was it they wrote? 'The weak shall perish'?"<br>
"Do not believe everything you read."
:—'''Megatron''' and '''Optimus Prime''', unusually philosophical in the middle of a death match.

==Notes==
===Animation and technical errors===
* When the flying Vehicons arrive to help retrieve the power source from the military base, the Vehicon ground units which stole it in the first place vanish.
* As Megatron extends his blade when Optimus leaps at him, the sound effect is that of his cannon firing.
* When Optimus tries to strike the finishing blow, he's standing on Megatron's chest. Once Megatron catches the blade, Optimus is standing much further back.

===Continuity errors===
*Megatron's jet-mode cannons score a direct hit on Bumblebee, yet do no apparent damage other than briefly stopping him. When Arcee was hit in "[[Darkness Rising, Part 5]]", it nearly killed her. On a similar note, Bumblebee should have taken the brunt of the Dark Energon exposure, but only Raf shows any symptoms. Arcee was weakened by exposure to a few drops from [[Cliffjumper (Prime)|Cliffjumper]]'s animated corpse in "[[Darkness Rising, Part 2]]". However, Optimus tells Arcee to look after Raf AND Bumblebee; its likely that Bee's just being strong for his partner's sake.
*Bumblebee knows Raf is injured, so why does he drive nearly two miles (three clicks) to the battlefield instead of just calling for a Groundbridge immediately?
*Raf says he can't see without his glasses in "[[Shadowzone (episode)|Shadowzone]]", but his first person shot is perfectly clear. This is a common thing for TV and movies, but still...

===Continuity notes===
*Megatron refers to his feeling by saying "it's as if" he can hear Unicron's thoughts, which he gibbered about back in "[[Darkness Rising, Part 3]]".
*The story revolves around the idea that Dark Energon is out in space, another "Darkness Rising" plot point. Turns out that it's not as far out as the characters think...
*Agent Fowler's men at first thought it was [[MECH]] who stole the phase conductor until they found the security image of Soundwave.
*[[Starscream (Prime)|Starscream]] demonstrated that energon does not agree with human physiology in "[[Darkness Rising, Part 3]]" and "[[Darkness Rising, Part 4|Part 4]]", which Ratchet confirms here. Apparently, Dark Energon has similar effects, but the two types cancel each other out (at least in a human).
*Arcee tells Bumblebee that she knows what it's like to see a partner <strike>killed</strike> harmed, referring to [[Tailgate (Prime)|Tailgate]]'s death at Airachnid's claws in "[[Predatory]]". Her general speech seems to call back to the lesson she learned at the end of "[[Partners]]". Ironically, Bumblebee was the one who prevented Arcee from giving into her desire for vengeance in that episode.
*Ratchet extracts energon from Bumblebee with the same device that he used to inject himself with synthetic energon in [[Stronger, Faster|the previous episode]].

===Transformers references===
* The [[Covenant of Primus]] first appeared in the ''[[Beast Wars (cartoon)|Beast Wars]]'' episode "[[Nemesis Part 1]]".
* Megatron and Optimus punch each other in the style of the opening credits, only on opposite sides. This isn't [[Sick Mind|the first time]] the show has done this.
* Yeah, yeah, "[[The Transformers: The Movie|One shall stand, one shall fall]]." This is the third time in this series alone, following "[[Darkness Rising, Part 5]]" and "[[Sick Mind]]", and that's not even including the title of THIS episode.
* Ratchet mentions that he has known Optimus for longer than any of the other Earth-stationed Autobots, even before he was a Prime. Taking the character's appearance in ''[[Transformers: War for Cybertron (360/PS3/PC)|War for Cybertron]]'' into account, this would be true, as Ratchet was under the direct command of Optimus prior to, and at the start of the game's storyline. In comparison, the first cutscene of the Autobot campaign showed Bumblebee's first meeting with Optimus, and whilst Arcee was in the game, she never personally interacted with Optimus during the story. Bulkhead was mentioned as having joined Optimus during a later period of time.
* Megatron refers to Optimus as "the last of the Primes". He was also called this by the head of the [[Autobot High Council]] in ''War for Cybertron'', upon his ascension to the rank of Prime. It is also a term used to refer to his [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|live-action film]] counterpart.

===Real-world references===

*The picture on the conspiracy website of a supposed alien looking through a window is a reference to the famed "Denver Alien" sighting where a man called Jeff Peckman claimed he filmed an extra-terrestrial outside of his home.

===Trivia===
* The episode was first broadcast on Canada's Teletoon channel. AGAIN.
* At the beginning of the episode, as Megatron explains why he sought out the blood of Unicron, Knock Out totally checks out his "nails" in the background. How vain can you get?!
* Megatron laments that the only shard of Dark Energon he has is the one in his chest. It would seem that, despite his machinations being discovered, Starscream never gave Megatron's original shard back.
* Bulkhead states that he has never seen Optimus "laugh, cry or lose his cool". While it could just be an offhand expression, this inadvertently raises an interesting question as to whether Cybertronians actually have the ability to cry...[[Humanization#Crying|hmmmmmmmm]].
* Ratchet tells the kids that the title of Prime can only be earned, not inherited or born into. This is the inverse of what [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|a different Optimus]] told [[Megatron (Movie)|his archenemy]] in [[Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen|a different universe]].
* This is the first time in the series an Autobot weaponizes a part of their vehicle mode—in this case, Optimus's wheels on his legs.
Just curious, but is it worth mentioning the similarities between the scene where Knockout's checking out his fingernails in the background, to a similar scene involving Airazor from the Beast Wars episode, ''Spider's Game'', as seen here? [http://www.insecticons.com/screencapsbw/images/S-Waspy-02.jpg] I'm not saying it's an homage (I know a lot of people abuse that phrase around here), but it is a pretty interesting coincidence given their similarities... - [[User:Boy Blunderous|Boy Blunderous]] 12:48, 30 August 2011 (EDT)
== Are we sure we want to assume it's Unicron? ==

I thought this wiki was against "assumptions" or "implications", and instead waited for a direct confirmation (which we don't have yet on this subject). I feel we shouldn't be directly connecting to Unicron (yet) until we've seen something truly more concrete, not everything always as it ''seems''. [[User:Karhukjnsi|Karhukjnsi]] 06:08, 31 August 2011 (EDT)

:Dark Energon is refered to as The Blood Of Unicron, so it's probably safe to make the connection there. However, there is a link in the article that points out that the face in Megatron's vision is Unicron. This is much less certain, and probably shouldn't be there. I was wondering whether this is worth noting in the article, and if so, where it should go. [[User:GluttonyReaper|GluttonyReaper]] 19:11, 27 August 2011 (EDT)

'''Megatron''' is not content with conquest of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. When he learns of some power greater than his own, he does not attempt to merely defeat it. He will subjugate it, bend it to his will, carve up its corpse and integrate its power into himself. Megatron demands complete submission from those around him. Any opposition is savagely crushed, any insubordination violently punished. He is a monster in every sense of the word. Megatron tempers this barbarism with regal militaristic formality. He calls his closest troops "gentlemen." He speaks politely and intelligently. One million years ago, [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] was at relative peace. Most Transformers were nothing more than citizens of the planet, the [[Autobot]] army simply guarded the majestic [[Cyber City]], and no one had heard of "Decepticons". The standard-sized Transformers lived alongside villages of the smaller-sized [[Mini-Con]]s, and all of them were caught unawares by the sudden rise of Megatron. He and his soldiers came [[Decepticon Headquarters (Armada)|seemingly out of nowhere]], sweeping through Mini-Con villages and performing [[Mecha-sectioning|horrible experiments]] on the diminutive Transformers. The Decepticons had discovered how to rewire Mini-Cons to interface with them, [[Powerlinx|drawing power]] from their new slaves. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 1|Armada #1}}

After capturing all but [[Sparkplug (Armada)|a]] [[Air Defense Mini-Con Team (Armada)|handful]] of Mini-Cons, Megatron and his enhanced troops assaulted Cyber City, defeating the Autobots in a single battle. But while Optimus Prime's forces retreated, the rogue Mini-Cons infiltrated Decepticon headquarters and spirited all of their imprisoned brethren away in a [[Exodus (Armada)|spaceship]]. To Megatron's great consternation, the ship fled from Cybertron to [[Earth|parts unknown]]. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 2|Armada #2}}

Despite this loss, the Decepticons still held the power of the Mini-Cons they had been using in the battle of Cyber City, and this gave them continual combat superiority. Cybertron was completely unprepared for Megatron's assault; thousands of citizens submitted themselves to slavery. Megatron's rule brought chaos and injustice, and while the Autobots never gave up their fight, they had to resort to guerrilla tactics from underground bases. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 3|Armada #3}}

At some point, Prime would recall having heard about Megatron for the first time while he (Prime) was still in [[Cybertronian Military Academy|military academy]]. Prime said that the rumors surrounding Megatron were positive: That he was an unbeatable warrior with an unrivaled intellect. But Megatron soon turned his abilities against the Cybertronian governments, raising the Decepticon army in a march of conquest. After Prime's first field mission, he witnessed Megatron's ruthlessness in the form of a devastated energon refinery filled with the dead and dying. Prime claimed that this experience cemented his desire to defeat Megatron at all costs. {{storylink|More Than Meets The Eye (Armada)|More Than Meets The Eye: Armada}}

{{note|Prime's story appears incongruous with the known progress of the Mini-Con enslavement, which happened after Prime had ascended to a command position. As the Mini-Con villages fell, everyone seemed completely in the dark about who Megatron and the Decepticons were, and they were shocked by the idea of a war being declared. There is no known reason for Prime to have lied about his memories, but since he may have made those statements even a million years after the fact, perhaps allowances can be made for false recollections.}}

Over the next million years, the Mini-Con empowered Decepticons steadily conquered the planet. Concerned that the conflict could escalate and put other worlds at risk, the [[Universal Peacekeeping Committee]] sent the famed mediator [[Fflaxl]] to the relatively unknown Transformer homeworld in an attempt to settle the dispute between the Autobot and Decepticon "tribes" peacefully. However, just as he arrived, Megatron and Optimus Prime were in the midst of a battle, and Optimus Prime was sent flying, eventually landing on [[Bix]], Fflaxl's bodyguard. The diplomat, seeing the scale of the war and its participants, decided that some conflicts were best left untouched and that everything would work out in the end. {{storylink|Armada Preview}}

The situation changed drastically when [[Rad White|some]] [[Alexis Thi Dang|human]] [[Carlos Lopez|children]] stumbled upon the crashed Mini-Con ship on the distant world of [[Earth]] and activated a distress beacon. The Decepticons, controlling Cybertron's communications satellites, intercepted the signal and mounted a [[space bridge]] assault on Earth. Meanwhile, the Autobots, having hacked into the communications system, also saw the signal and made a spacebridge trip of their own. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 3|Armada #3}} Megatron thinking nothing of rampaging across an inhabited planet that had nothing to do with the Cybertronian civil war, attacked Sparkplug's group and their new human friends in [[Science City]], declaring that for escaping his grasp, he would not simply rewire them for powerlinking, he would take them apart piece by piece. Fortunately, the Mini-Cons and the children inadvertently led the Decepticons to an Autobot ambush, and the two forces inevitably clashed. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 4|Armada #4}} Megatron was furious that Prime had still refused to bow down to him despite all the losses the Autobots had suffered, and arrogantly powerlinked with all the Mini-Cons the Decepticons had at their disposal, leaving his lieutenants vulnerable. He was forced to retreat when newly-reactivated Mini-Cons came to the rescue and powered up the Autobots. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 5|Armada #5}}

Megatron, however, was undeterred by the Mini-Cons' newfound resistance. In addition to the Mini-Cons he had maintained lordship over for millennia, Megatron also gained control of the [[Air Defense Mini-Con Team (Armada)|Air Defense Team]], reconfigured them and warped them into the mighty [[Star Saber (Armada)|Dark Saber]] sword. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 6|Armada #6}} Gloating over his newfound power, Megatron lead an attack on [[Lincoln]], [[South Dakota]] to draw the Autobots out of [[Autobase|Autobase: Earth]], but was unable to effectively wield it, partly became his own Mini-Con [[Leader-1 (Armada)|Leader-1]] wasn't giving him enough power to control it, and he lacked respect for the sword's power. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 7|Armada #7}} Soon after, all activated Mini-Cons on Earth were "summoned" by a mysterious obelisk that landed in [[Tranquility, Kansas|Tranquility]], [[Kansas]], and the Decepticons followed, intending to scoop up all the known Mini-Cons in one fell swoop. Unfortunately, they were prevented from doing so when the Mini-Cons entered the obelisk and it launched itself to Earth's [[Moon (moon)|Moon]]. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 8|Armada #8}} Piecing together what little they knew, Megatron realised that the Mini-Cons must have been taken away by a previously-unknown Mini-Con rebel group. Salivating at the sheer amount of Mini-Cons on Earth's natural satellite, Megatron called upon [[Thrust (Armada)|Thrust]] to bring a set of booster packs from Cybertron so he could lead an assault. However, in his haste, Megatron was unprepared for impressive defenses the [[Destruction Mini-Con Team]] had erected on their new home and was forced to regroup on the dark side of the Moon. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 9|Armada #9}} Realizing a frontal assault would not win this battle, Megatron had [[Mini-Con Moonbase breacher|drilling equipment]] brought up and simply drilled his way into the Mini-Con rebel base. While he defended himself from Mini-Con counter attacks he sent Leader-1 ahead to deactivate the moon base's various defenses, a decision he would come to regret. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 10|Armada #10}} By relying on his much-abused Mini-Con slave for coordination and information in his attempt to seize the escaping Mini-Con rebels, he gave Leader-1 the means to seal him in a security room and almost torture him to death. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 11|Armada #11}}
[[Image:DWArmada13_Megatron_finesse.jpg|thumb|300px|"This is going to be the best Stargate fan-film ever!"]]

He came out of this with the Destruction Mini-Con Team as his prisoners, only to find they had a failsafe in their systems that gave out both unfettered power and incredible pain to anyone powerlinking to them by force. Having tasted that power, Megatron was unwilling to let it go, and so actually made a deal with [[Dualor (Armada)|Dualor]] in return for it, allowing the Destruction team a say in how the Decepticons would operate, ''even though'' he knew they would end up betraying him. With this in mind, he used [[Cyclonus (Armada)|Cyclonus]] as a guinea pig. Meanwhile, [[Skywarp (Armada)|Skywarp]], [[Sideways (RID)|Sideways]] and [[Wheeljack (Armada)|Wheeljack]]'s group in [[Death Valley]], [[California]] had launched the [[Solar Scalpel]], Megatron's new solar ray-reflective superweapon. {{storylink|Fire & Ice}} As he suspected, the Destruction Team did not keep their end of the bargain and overloaded Cyclonus with uncontrollable power. Still he had "bigger fish to fry": a group of Mini-Con escapees from the Moon had crashed in [[Alaska]] and an [[Autobot shuttle]] had been sent to rescue them. Though he could have easily destroyed the Autobots with one shot, he intentionally missed and only destroyed their shuttle, arrogant in the belief that the victory would be so much more satisfying if the Autobots could see their imminent destruction. Once again, Megatron's hubris was his undoing, as the Autobot-allied [[Space Mini-Con Team]] destroyed the Solar Scalpel before it could be used to harm the Autobots or the Mini-Cons. With this latest setback, Megatron wandered off to sulk. {{storylink|Dreamwave Armada issue 13|Armada #13}}

At some point, Megatron somehow gained even more power and a new paint job, rechristening himself "Galvatron". By itself, this new form was more powerful than his old body ''with'' Mini-Con enhancement. Still refusing to accept any limits, Galvatron discarded Leader-1 and sought to create the ultimate Mini-Con in his place. He began with [[Clench (Armada)|Clench]] and "upgraded" him with parts extracted from other victims. Clench took to his servitude gladly, grateful for the power of his new body. This was just one example of Galvatron's increased ability to manipulate those around him to serve his own ends. Sadly for his allies, this came with an even greater disregard for anyone and anything besides his own quest for physical enhancement. {{storylink|More Than Meets The Eye (Armada)|More Than Meets The Eye: Armada}}

{{note|It is unclear when or where Megatron turned into Galvatron, but it likely was after he came to Earth, since Galvatron's body was in all respects but color identical to the form Megatron took upon arrival. More certainly, it can be said that the Galvatron upgrade was a temporary state, as ''Armada'' would end with Megatron - as Megatron - being consumed by Unicron and imprisoned incorporeally until well into the ''Energon'' comic.}}
This was disrupted by the machinations of [[Unicron]], whose heralds took out the Decepticons' Cybertron base and Earth forces. {{storylink|Worlds Collide, Part 2 of 4}} Megatron fought a vicious battle to the death with [[Galvatron (G1)|an immensely powerful herald]], and despite his best efforts, the being was not fazed even when attacked with Leader-1's powerlink augmentation. The herald was swiftly defeated {{storylink|Worlds Collide, Part 3 of 4}} and was torn apart out of sheer spite. Regrouping after this, he formed an alliance with the returned Optimus to get "payback." The Decepticons joined the Autobots and Mini-Cons in battling Unicron, who emerged from another dimension via a portal close to Cybertron. Just as he was landing, [[Over-Run (Armada)|Over-Run]] opened the [[Mini-Con Matrix]] and dealt Unicron a critical blow. Megatron changed his plan to simple looting, but before he could even begin, Hot Shot, Red Alert, and [[Scavenger (Armada)|Scavenger]] shot him at pointblank range in revenge for Smokescreen. Millions of years ago, the civil war on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] reached a bloody stalemate as both Autobots and Decepticons augmented their forces with a race of small power-enhancing Transformers known as the [[Mini-Con|Mini-Cons]]. In the end, a truce was settled where the Mini-Cons would be exiled, never to be used as tools of war again. However, Megatron betrayed the truce, attacking with the full force of the Decepticon fleet in an attempt to capture all the Mini-Cons in one fell swoop. The Autobots, anticipating this turn of events, launched their fleet to protect the fleeing [[Exodus (Armada)|Mini-Con ship ]] as it warped away.

[[Image:ArmadaMegatron onside.jpg|right|150px|thumb|"Why didn't anyone tell me my robot bits were showing?"]]
In the year 2010, Cybertron received a Mini-Con homing beacon from a small primitive world known as [[Earth]], unwittingly activated by a group of human children. Megatron led his most loyal Decepticon warriors to this planet in search of the Mini-Cons, only to discover his arch-enemy [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] had followed to stop him. {{storylink|First Encounter}}

After a tactical retreat, it was revealed that the Decepticons had established a base in the ruined hulk of the Mini-Con ship on Earth's [[Moon (moon)|Moon]]. While pondering his next move, Megatron discovered a [[Mini-Con storage panel]] buried in the moon dust. Activating it, he discovered it contained his old Mini-Con partner, [[Leader-1 (Armada)|Leader-1]]. Counting upon this as his edge over the Autobots, he reconfigured the vehicle modes of his forces and set out to capture the human children and their Mini-Con friends. After surrounding them, he was thwarted yet again by the timely arrival of Optimus Prime and the other Autobots. However, Megatron soon demonstrated the great power a Mini-Con [[Powerlinx]] bestows on a Transformer, initially overwhelming the Autobots with his sheer firepower. {{storylink|Metamorphosis}} {{storylink|Base}}
[[Image:ArmadaMegs fallenover.jpg|right|150px|thumb|"Make my monster grow!"]]
Megatron went on to run a successful campaign, regularly capturing Mini-Cons and successfully combining the first two Mini-Con weapons, the [[Star Saber (Armada)|Star Saber]] and the [[Skyboom (Armada)|Skyboom Shield]]. Through the machinations of his tactician, [[Thrust (Armada)|Thrust]] (who was at the time indirectly being manipulated by [[Unicron]]), Megatron then acquired the final weapon, the [[Requiem Blaster]], which with the other two served to power the newly-built [[Hydra Cannon]]. The destructive force of his new weapon was unleashed against Earth, but Optimus Prime took the blast to save the planet, killing himself in the process.

[[Image:Armada 52 - Prime hangon to Galvatron.jpg|left|180px|thumb|This heroic sacrifice won't stop him from coming back and being just as much of a jerk as ever.]]
Prime's death plunged Megatron into a deep depression, having lost his greatest opponent without the chance to finish him with his own hands. Thankfully for all concerned, the Mini-Cons were able to resurrect Optimus, restoring Megatron to his former self - but he soon underwent another change that allowed him to surpass all he had been, when he was among the Transformers who had their powers boosted by their Mini-Cons. Renaming himself "Galvatron," he returned to Cybertron with a renewed vigor for conquest. However, the emergence of the threat of Unicron was ignored by Galvatron, forcing his lieutenant [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]] to sacrifice himself to make his leader see the truth, and Galvatron again came to fear the end of his war in the face of Unicron's power.

Galvatron entered Unicron's body along with Optimus Prime, and was absorbed into the demi-god's body and mind, but when the Autobots' human allies freed the Mini-Cons from Unicron's thrall, Galvatron too was freed. Believing the threat of Unicron to be over, he challenged Prime to a final duel. However, the energies released in the battle reawakened Unicron, and Galvatron saw that the only way to end the circle was to destroy himself - sacrificing his life rather than live in an era of peace, Galvatron plunged himself into Unicron's maw, and in a flash, the two seemingly ceased to exist.
Although he was believed dead by both the Autobots and Decepticons, Megatron, like Unicron, had survived the final battle, his body now a decayed husk, absorbed into the equally damaged body of Unicron, where it lay for ten years. When the being called [[Alpha Quintesson]] began his plan to re-energize Unicron, Megatron saw his opportunity, siphoning off some of the [[Energon (Energon)|energon]] that Alpha Q's [[Terrorcon (Energon)|Terrorcons]] stole, working towards his own rebirth. To turn the Decepticons to his side, Alpha Q forged a sword from Megatron's [[spark]], but when an enraged [[Scorponok (Energon)|Scorponok]] stabbed Megatron's corpse with the blade, Megatron was born anew. Taking the sword for his own, he proceeded to take over Unicron's body, sending Alpha Q fleeing in Unicron's head, {{storylink|Megatron Resurrected}} and restarted his campaign against Earth and the Autobots, seeking energon to reactivate Unicron, who he would use as the ultimate weapon.

Megatron eventually succeeded in bringing Unicron to the vicinity of Cybertron and transforming the planet-eater to robot mode. However, in an attempt to stop him, Alpha Q rammed Unicron's head, charged with the positive energon of Earth, into Unicron's body. The resultant reaction between Earth's energon and the negatively-charged energon that powered Unicron tore [[Rift (Energon)|a rupture in reality]] that led to [[Alpha Q's universe|a new region of space]] {{storylink|Ripped Up Space}} where Alpha Q recreated all the planets Unicron had consumed.
Optimus Prime forced him into a battle, knowing that Galvatron's hatred of him would force his consciousness to surface again, and when it did, Prime drained Unicron's influence from Galvatron, sealing it within himself. {{storylink|Spark (episode)|Spark}}
Enraged by Unicron's manipulations, Galvatron intended to destroy Unicron's spark, but wound up being possessed by it once more. Ten years later, Primus's plan to imprison Unicron's spark at the heart of the sun ultimately failed, leading the star to collapse, creating a [[Unicron Singularity|black hole]] which threatened the existence of Cybertron, and the rest of the universe. Escaping his confinement within the sun, Megatron enhanced his powers by merging his body with [[Armor of Unicron|the remnants of Unicron's shattered form]], increasing his power with the dark god's own.

As the Autobots prepared to evacuate Cybertron in the wake of disasters caused by the black hole, Megatron struck, approaching the unprotected ancient Transformer [[Vector Prime]], and stealing a holographic map containing locations of the [[Cyber Planet Key|Cyber Planet Keys]] that could be used to seal the black hole. Operating out of a fiery pocket dimension, Megatron schemed to used the world-shaping power of the Cyber Planet Keys and their focal [[Omega Lock]] to accelerate the universal degeneration created by the black hole, destroying the universe and using the keys to remake it in his own image. But before he could do this he had to face [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]] once again. He almost had him but Scattorshot tried to help and Megatron made them crash into each other and shot a bolt of lightning at them. Vector Prime jumped at megatron but [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]] came and saved him. {{storylink|Fallen (episode)|Fallen}}

Megatron and Starscream then headed for Earth to find out what the Autobots were up to. He was greeted by Optimus, Vector Prime, [[Jetfire (Armada)|Jetfire]] and [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]] who managed to drive him away. {{storylink|Haven}}

Leaving [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]] and [[Thundercracker (Armada)|Thundercracker]] to search for the Omega Lock on Earth, Megatron located the resting place of the first Cyber Planet Key on [[Velocitron]], the Speed Planet. {{storylink|Hidden}} Recruiting the native troublemakers [[Ransack (Cybertron)|Ransack]] and [[Crumplezone (Cybertron)|Crumplezone]] to do his bidding, he deduced that the planet's racing trophy was the key. {{storylink|Landmine (episode)|Landmine}} After failing to defeat planet ruler [[Override (Cybertron)|Override]] in a race to learn more, however, he left Ransack and Crumplezone to compete in tournaments and win the trophy and turned his attention to the [[Jungle Planet (Cybertron)|Jungle Planet]], home of the second Cyber Planet Key, where he ingratiated himself with planet ruler [[Scourge (Cybertron)|Scourge]]. {{storylink|Search}} Both missions ultimately ended in failure, however, when the Autobots acquired the keys. {{storylink|Champion}} {{storylink|Primal}}

[[Image:CybertronMegatron DeathMachineGun.jpg|left|180px|thumb|Too bad my toy's gun isn't that cool.]]
Attempting to find the third key, Megatron discovered that he had been betrayed by Starscream when the planet map - in reality, a duplicate switched out by Starscream - led him to a dead sector of space and sealed him within a metallic sphere. {{storylink|Trap}} Scourge was able to liberate him a short time later, but in that time, Starscream had obtained the third Cyber Planet Key, from Earth, for himself, along with the Omega Lock and other keys. Megatron made a beeline for his treacherous lieutenant, but was intercepted by the Autobots [[Hot Shot (Armada)|Hot Shot]], [[Red Alert (Armada)|Red Alert]] and [[Scattorshot (Cybertron)|Scattorshot]], who intended to hold him off until the other Autobots could stop Starscream. Starscream's attempts to harness the Earth Key, however, caused a release of its energies which endowed Megatron with a new Cyber Key power - the "Death Machine Gun," which he used to mow down the Autobots in his path. {{storylink|Revelation (episode)|Revelation}}

The Autobots managed to retake the keys from Starscream, but a further attack from Megatron saw the Decepticon leader steal them out from under Optimus Prime's nose and retreat into his pocket dimension. Prime pursued him through the portal and defeated him in a pitched battle, reacquiring the lock and returning to Cybertron. As Megatron attempted to follow him, Vector Prime combined his portal-opening powers with the Cyber Planet Keys and collapsed Megatron's dimension in upon itself, destroying the villain. {{storylink|Cybertron (episode)|Cybertron}}
This was not to be the end for Megatron, however, as the power of his Unicron armor sustained him as a ghost-like entity composed of pure darkness. In this state, he rematerialized on Cybertron and used Unicron's reformatting powers to upgrade the injured Crumplezone into Dark Crumplezone. As he came under attack from the Autobot [[Overhaul (Cybertron)|Leobreaker]], his regeneration completed and his physical body was restored, even as he used the remainder of the lingering darkness to create an evil doppelganger of Leobreaker, [[Nemesis Breaker]], out of the Autobot's own dark thoughts. {{storylink|Darkness (episode)|Darkness}} Merging with Nemesis Breaker to form Dark Claw Mode, Megatron battled Optimus Prime and Leobreaker's Savage Claw Mode and made a further play for the Omega Lock, until news of the location of the fourth and final Cyber Planet Key led him to withdraw. {{storylink|Escape (episode)|Escape}}

Guided through a spatial warp by the mysterious [[Soundwave (Cybertron)|Soundwave]] to [[Gigantion]], the Giant Planet, home of the final key, Megatron engaged the world's leader, [[Metroplex (Cybertron)|Metroplex]], in battle. Much to his surprise, however, he was utterly defeated in seconds. {{storylink|Giant}} Consumed with rage, the power of Unicron within his armor reached out and detected the energies of the Giant Planet's Cyber Planet Key, drawing upon them and infusing Megatron's body with them. Attacking the Autobots in a dark, shadowed form, he decimated most of their forces before being confronted by Optimus Prime and completing his transformation - once again, Megatron had become Galvatron. {{storylink|Fury}}

After taking revenge on Metroplex, Galvatron joined the race to acquire the Giant Planet key, which included a rematch with the reborn Hot Shot, Red Alert and Scattorshot. Yet again, the Autobots were able to acquire the key, but Galvatron then stole the completed Omega Lock, only to be attacked by Starscream, who battled with Galvatron for possession of the artifact. Galvatron ultimately claimed victory in the battle, with the sheer amount of energy released in the clash actually blasting Starscream (along with [[Sideways (RID)|Sideways]] and Soundwave, who were trying to nick the lock) into another dimension. {{storylink|Showdown (episode)|Showdown}} With the lock and keys now in his hands, Galvatron returned to the Black Hole, using his newfound power to accelerate its spread throughout the universe. When the Autobots managed to return to Cybertron (thanks to Vector Prime's sacrifice), Galvatron attacked them with the intent of ending them once and for all. The Autobots were no match for his enhanced strength, but they soon recieved reinforcements in the form of every other Cybertronian in the universe, forcing Galvatron to fall back. {{storylink|Homecoming (episode)|Homecoming}}

Despite being heavily outnumbered by the united forces of the Autobots, Galvatron remained confident, using the power of the Omega Lock to super-size his few remaining minions. In the ensuing battle, he retreated to the very core of the singularity (currently absorbing the Jungle Planet), where he was confronted by the five planet leaders. Despite absorbing the power of the Lock and becoming a giant himself, Galvatron was eventually defeated by his enemies, forcing him to throw the Omega Lock and the Cyber Planet Keys into the very core of the black hole in hopes of destroying the universe anyway. Unfortunately for him, Optimus grabbed the Lock (with some otherworldly aid from Vector Prime), and Primus' Spark was finally restored, allowing him to use the Ark to finally seal the black hole for good. Adding insult to injury, Galvatron's depowered troops found out that he had every intention of letting them die with the rest of the universe, and so abandoned the defeated Decepticon leader in the void. {{storylink|End}}

Having had ultimate power, only to see it torn from his grasp, Galvatron contemplated giving up. He was then (somehow) taunted by Starscream's spirit, who said that if he was to give up just like that, then he was "no Unicron." Starscream vanished but stayed as a memory. His crown, left floating in space after his demise, came to Galvatron, who clenched it close. He realized that his former lieutenant was right (though he was loath to admit it), and decided to continue his conquest. Flying to Jungle Planet, Galvatron damaged one of the planetary engines pushing it back towards the Space Bridge before warping to Cybertron and challenging Optimus Prime to one final duel. Battling on first Cybertron's surface, and then its moon, Galvatron generated a massive blade of dark energy, which Prime countered with Vector Prime's sword. As the two old enemies charged towards each other in a final strike, Prime impaled Galvatron, whose body crumbled and dissolved as he met his end once and for all. {{storylink|Unfinished}}

{{Note|In a montage sequence at the conclusion of the series, however, Galvatron's evil proved eternal, as, beyond the veil of time and space, his spark battled with that of Vector Prime.}}
Back when Megatron first started terrorizing the Mini-Con population of Cybertron, he leraned that Mini-Cons were hiding at [[Autobot Command HQ]], and so he and his forces attacked the building. However, this was false information leaked to the Decepticons by [[Dualor (Armada)|Dualor]], who planned to assassinate Megatron by blowing the Autobot headquarters up. When the Autobots learned of this, they evacuated the building, distracting Megatron from entering the [[magno-web]] perimeter. As such, the ensuing explosion only served to knocked him over, which still made him furious. {{storylink|Panini Armada issue 9|Counter-Strike!}} A few million years later, Megatron was still fighting the Autobots long after most of the Mini-Cons had abandoned Cybertron. During one battle, he was very disappointed with [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]]'s ability to lose despite his Mini-Con augmentation, and threatened to take [[Swindle (Armada)|Swindle]] for himself. Suddenly, a Mini-Con activation from [[Earth]] reached Cybertron, and Megatron was the first to take a [[space bridge]] to the alien planet. Upon arrival he found [[High Wire (Armada)|High Wire]] and three [[human]]s, and quickly made it clear that he did not "come in peace". After voicing his intent to strip Earth of its resources after finding all the Mini-Cons, he made a grab for High Wire, but was stopped by [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]]. {{storylink|First Encounter!}}

Megatron's power-link with [[Leader-1 (Armada)|Leader-1]] allowed him to easily defeat his Prime and summon Starscream, [[Cyclonus (Armada)|Cyclonus]] and [[Demolishor (Armada)|Demolishor]] to Earth. He was busy contemplating the possibility of Mini-Cons on the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]] when [[Rad White]] confronted him and offered to lead him to the Mini-Cons' crashed ship in exchange for sparing Optimus Prime. Megatron laughed at him and explained that he didn't make "deals", and told the human to lead him to the ship before he became a wet spot on the ground. Rad's Mini-Con friends came to his aid, and after shooting and electrocuting Megatron had little effect, they power-linked with the arriving Autobots instead. With Prime now strengthened by [[Sparkplug (Armada)|Sparkplug]], Megatron opted for a temporary retreat. {{storylink|Panini Armada issue 2|Friends and Foes!}} The Decepticons attacked the Autobots again when they were attempting to send their Mini-Cons back to Cybertron. Rad hoped that Megatron would give up when the Mini-Cons left, but the Decepticon leader made it clear that he wasn't leaving Earth until he had captured all the remaining Mini-Cons. When it turned out that the Mini-Cons had stayed on Earth after all, Megatron saw no further need for battle and retreated, blowing the Autobots' space bridge up on the way. {{storylink|Panini Armada issue 4|No Way Back!}}

Following up on his earlier theory, Megatron traveled to the Moon in search of Mini-Cons. He ended up being confronted by [[Smokescreen (Armada)|Smokescreen]], [[Scavenger (Armada)|Scavenger]] and a hologram of [[Optimus Prime (Armada)|Optimus Prime]], who revealed that they had already saved all the Mini-Cons on the moon. After furiously clawing at the holographic Prime, Megatron retreated once again. {{storylink|Panini Armada issue 6|Between Two Worlds!}} However, he elected to stay on the Moon, where the Decepticons constructed a massive headquarters from which they planned to simply nuke [[Autobase]]. The Mini-Cons tried to negotiate with Megatron, offering to surrender themselves in exchange for sparing the Autobots. Again, Megatron didn't make deals, and decided to first capture the Mini-Cons then blow the Autobots away anyway. However, this gave the Autobots the time they needed to repair their space bridge and link it to the Decepticons' one, so when Megatron fired the missiles, they were warped straight back into his own short-lived base. {{storylink|Panini Armada issue 8|Earthshaker!}} To make matters worse, Cyclonus didn't return with the captured Mini-Cons, and Megatron took his frustration out on Demolishor. His mood was not improved when Cyclonus suddenly returned and began opening fire on what remained of the Decepticon base. It turned out that the "traitor" was possessed by the [[Destruction Mini-Con Team]], who attacked and defeated Megatron despite his power-link with Leader-1. Before Cyclonus could finish him off, however, Megatron was saved by Starscream when he separated the Destruction Team from their host. {{storylink|Panini Armada issue 9|Dawn of Destruction!}}
* When a fan asked him why ''Energon'' Megatron was not named Galvatron, owing to continuity with the ''Armada'' series and the obvious visual [[homage]] in the figure's design, Archer explained that it was due to Hasbro needing to protect their trademarks, as well as Megatron being a more recognizable (and thus marketable) product name.
:''Dropships are a type of [[Decepticlone]] from the [[Armada (franchise)|Armada]] portion of the [[Unicron Trilogy]] [[continuity family]].''

[[Image:Dropship-render.png|right|thumbnail|250px|Chock full of drones]]

Decepticlone '''Dropships''' are the standard form of transportation for Decepticlone forces. They are heavily armoured and thus resistant to most basic forms of weaponry, however, a Dropship can be brought down with either concentrated firepower or considerable force. Dropships have no offensive capabilities of their own, and it is unknown if they are piloted vehicles or have their own (limited) artificial intelligence. Dropships are used to combat the [[Autobot]]s by deploying squads of varying Decepticlones into the combat zone. Some Decepticlones may remain in the Dropship after the deployment, in which case the Dropship will hover above the ground and allow the remaining Decepticlones to attack from the air. Under these circumstances, Dropships will always pull out if they sustain too much damage, or if the Decepticlones onboard are destroyed. However, Dropships have a very low air speed, making them easy targets.

[[Image:Decepticlone dropship2.jpg|thumb|left|Hi, kill us! Thank you!]]

The presence of a Dropship always indicates an organised Decepticon/Decepticlone occupation in the area; their most basic function is to simply patrol a set path. However, if an [[Autobot]] comes within its sensor range, the dropship may change course to intercept, and release its cargo of Decepticlone troops.

[[Image:Dropship cargo.jpg|thumb|View of rear cargo mount. Not shown: "I (skull) Autobots" bumper sticker.]]

Since the Dropships do not attack by themselves, they can be used by Autobots as transport, should they somehow manage to get onto their upper decks. In addition to carrying smaller Decepticlones inside its main cargo bay, a Dropship is capable of carrying a [[Heavy Unit]], a squad of [[Rollarm Unit]]s or a [[Spider Tank]] clamped into the external cargo mount between its thruster vanes. {{storylink|Transformers (Melbourne House)|Transformers}}
No by-the-book soldier is '''Outback'''; for him, the rules of war are the rules of Rafferty. If the beaten track winds, it's a fair bet he'll go straight. He's more comfortable out in the never never anyway, up grades as steep as 50 degrees, or kicking up willie willies at 110 mph. His insubordination gains him little respect from his mates, and often he finds no partner on his missions but Pat Malone and his trusty rooftop tank-jigger, loaded with armor-piercing shells.

Way in the back blocks of Outback's mind, however, there lurks a dark certainty. By the rules of Rafferty he lives, and by these rules, he is sure, Outback's bound to be a write off. The army's run by Wallies and the war's a no-hoper, but he's not totally clapped-out yet, so he'll give it a fair go. It's not the best attitude, but he'll share it with anyone without reserve. Outback calls a spade a bloody spade.

Let a mission go down the gurgler, though, and Outback's the one who'll sort it. He may be largely a mediocrity; he may be an insubordinate grizzle, but his courage is beyond reproach. By the rules of Rafferty he lives, and so far they've served him well.
After an attack on the [[Galactic Olympics]], Outback and [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] were charged with tracking down any Decepticons on Earth, whom the Autobots believed were responsible for the assault. With reason to believe some 'Cons were hiding out at a [[Socialist Democratic Federated Republic of Carbombya|Carbombya]] air field, the duo still had to deal with a needle in a haystack (or rather, a jet in an airport). In order to get results, Outback bluffed his way through the inspection with a "[[Decepticon detector]]", pointing it at random things and hoping for a response. He got one. Astonishingly, the two jets with giant Decepticon insignias on them were actually Decepticons(!), [[Dirge (G1)|Dirge]] and [[Ramjet (G1)|Ramjet]], who tried to run for it in fear of Outback's respectable scanning abilities. Outback caught them with a <s>nuclear bomb</s> smoke bomb, though, and he and Blaster managed to interrogate the Coneheads and get the location of the Decepticons' new base on [[Chaar]]. {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 1}}
Later, Outback was teamed with Blaster again aboard [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky Lynx]] when [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] radioed in that a mysterious [[Quintesson]] signal was broadcasting from a nearby planet. Investigating, the Autobots discovered a lost Quintesson recorded journal, containing secret information about how the Quintessons had purposely escalated a war between [[Xetaxxis]] and [[Lanarq]], two feuding worlds for which [[Rodimus Prime (G1)|Rodimus Prime]] was attempting to negotiate a peace summit. [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] and the [[Predacon (G1)|Predacons]] also arrived looking for the journal, and soon the Autobots, Decepticons and Quintessons began a game of "hot potato", bouncing possession of the journal back and forth between each party over and over. Outback and the others eventually claimed the journal and brought it to the peace summit, ending the war at least temporarily. {{storylink|The Quintesson Journal}}
==Notes==
[[Image:ToyFair1986-TFpage01a.jpg|thumb|250px|Outback went overboard on the Aborigine facepaint.]]
* In the pre-[[Toy Fair 1986]] catalog, Outback is shown with a solid red face. Upon release, he had a solid silver face (then for his Encore release many years later, he had a silver face with a blue visor).
* The character [[Fastback (G1)|Fastback]] from ''[[Megatron Origin]]'' was written and designed to be a pre-[[Earth]] version of Outback. However, Fastback is killed during the events of the comic, contradicting how Outback died during the war in the previously established ''Spotlight: Kup'', necessiting a quick name change that turned Fastback into a nobody.
* Roche wanted to use a "name" character as a victim in ''Spotlight: Kup'', knowing it has more impact when they die than when a [[generic]] buys it. Why Outback? He doesn't know!<ref>[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yIkqheta3GE Nick Roche interview with Moonbase Two]</ref>
* Oddly, so far as we can tell, Outback has never actually been to Australia.
