==Synopsis==
In the depths of the starship ''[[Exodus (G1 ship)|Exodus]]'', [[Gauge]] can't believe what she's seeing: although she's never met the two 'bots imprisoned in the ship's brig, [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]] and [[Greenlight]] claim to know ''her''! Arcee quickly recognizes the symptoms of a memory wipe and proffers a [[cortical psychic patch|psychic patch]], but Gauge remains skeptical and demands to know why they led her here. According to Arcee, the Reversionists have altered Gauge's memory: Gauge, remembering all the times when she didn't fit in with her fellow Reversionists, wonders what else she has to lose and promptly plugs herself into the mental network. In a flash, Gauge finds herself in the city of [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]], watching her own forging ceremony at the [[Pyramid (Cybertron)|Pyramid]] and her original introduction to Arcee and Greenlight. With help from her mentors, Gauge slowly begins to navigate her buried memories, soon remembers what happened to her family after the collapse of the [[Tether]] and their narrow escape aboard the ''Exodus''. But the Reversionists aboard were planning something that they didn't want heretical stowaways like Arcee and her family to know about; after first imprisoning Gauge's guardians, Accelerator tampered with Gauge's memories to ensure that the young Cybertronian would believe she had ''always'' been a devout Reversionist...

Overtaken by emotion, Gauge rips off the psychic patch and returns to reality, convinced that Arcee's telling the truth—Gauge really ''is'' a native Cybertronian, ''not'' a Reversionist. However, Gauge isn't sure that she can free the pair; she suspects that the command to deactivate their energy cage is probably hardcoded to the ship's central mainframe... which also happens to occupy Plenary [[Heretech]]'s private quarters. Greenlight warns Gauge to hurry; whatever the Reversionists are planning, they're going to execute it soon, and Gauge is the only one who can stop them. Determined to free her mentors, Gauge returns to the upper decks of the ''Exodus'', and ignores Accelerator's scolding as she settles back into the normal routine. But Gauge can't ignore the question percolating in the back of her mind: forged Cybertronian but raised Reversionist, which is the ''real'' Gauge—the previous self that now only exists in memories, or her current self, the product of lies and manipulation?

Gauge tries to smooth-talk Accelerator into letting her clean Heretech's private chamber under the pretense of atonement for her disappearance, but to no avail; as the day wears on, Gauge cycles through the traditional routines of mindless labor and mass devotions... and, as time runs out, Gauge begins to wonder—what if Arcee and Greenlight are using her, just like the Reversionists? Finally, at the last devotion, Heretech makes a grandiose speech to his followers to announce that the "time of prophecy" is nearly upon them: if they perform their duties correctly, then tonight the faithful will "ascend". Whatever Heretech's been planning, his endgame is fast approaching... and Gauge is completely out of time. With no way to fabricate a convincing cover story, Gauge just breaks into Heretech's chambers while the crowd is distracted, but when she comes face-to-face with the mainframe itself, she hesitates. Gauge is tired of being used and pushed around; she wants to find out the truth—''her'' truth, and does so by directly interfacing with the mainframe. The moment costs her dearly, though; when Accelerator finds her, she immediately calls for the guards!

With security bearing down on her, Gauge races back through the underbelly of the ship and reunites with a newly-freed Arcee and Greenlight as they tear into the guards sent to contain them. The family reunites, but Gauge admits that she nearly ''didn't'' free her mentors, unsure if they were also manipulating her for her own purposes... when she realized that they never ''told'' her to do anything, and left the choice to help up to her and her alone, Gauge had a change of heart. But this tender moment is cut short when the ship's speakers activate to broadcast Heretech's grand announcement. At long last, he declares, their ultimate dream is at hand: Primus has promised them a world of their own, a promised land free from the squabbles of lesser factions. Now that they have arrived, the faithful Reversionists will cleanse the planet and, by morning, transform it into a paradise. When Arcee, Greenlight and Gauge scramble to the nearest porthole, they are horrified by the metallic vista below them—Heretech's "prophesied planet" is ''[[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]''!

Greenlight and [[Lancer]] were amateur historians and the assistants of the archaeometrist named [[Glyph (Universe)|Glyph]]. They were assigned to [[Flip Sides (G1)|Flipsides]]'s excavation site in [[Median]], where they uncovered a mysterious artifact known as the [[Heart of the Dragon]]. Unfortunately, Decepticon raiders from [[Quarex]] also learned of their discovery. The historians requested aid from the [[Elite Guard|Autobot Elite Guard]] to defend themselves and their find. Greenlight helped [[Strika (BM)|Strika]], Lancer and the Elite Guard fortify Median against [[Rage (G1)|Rage]]'s [[Stormtrooper (G1)|Stormtrooper]]s. Unlike her fellow neophyte Lancer, however, Greenlight showed no interest in engaging the enemy. She remained in hiding near the dig with Glyph and Flip Sides while the others fought off the Decepticons. Rage and [[Aquablast]] managed to infiltrate the defenses and reach the chamber where the historians were hiding, though, and Aquablast killed Glyph before Greenlight's optics. Greenlight served aboard the permanently spacefaring Titan [[Vigilem|Carcer]], under the command of [[Elita One (G1)|Elita One]]. Having been unable to keep [[Lancer]] from getting too friendly during roll call, the two were assigned to guard Carcer's space bridge, as Cybertronians had recently come through it, violently clashing with [[Devastator (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|each]] [[Optimus Maximus (G1)|other]]. Greenlight grew increasingly bored, saying that no one had used the space bridge in weeks, and she wasn't really sure that actual Cybertronians had come through it. Lancer assured her that they had, and almost immediately after, the bridge activated. While Lancer radioed the bridge of the ship, Greenlight joined with the other reinforcements in "welcoming" [[Starscream (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Starscream]] and [[Windblade (G1)|Windblade]] to their ship.{{storylink|The Will of the Few}}

After Carcer's inhabitants had joined the Council of Worlds, many of them emigrated to Cybertron while Carcer himself was being repaired, Greenlight among them. She and [[Lancer]] were trying to enjoy a quiet drink together at Maccadam's when a [[Drunkatron|drunk Decepticon]] harassed them. After Lancer told him he wasn't making any sense, Greenlight stated that the couple were from Carcer, anyway, and that he should get lost. {{storylink|07:00:00}}

As she and Lancer were loitering, Carcer's sensors picked up an army of [[zombie]] [[Titan (group)|Titans]] headed towards Cybertron, alerting [[Obsidian (BM)|Obsidian]] of the threat. {{storylink|Ping}} After Elita had refused to transform Carcer into [[robot mode]], Lancer and Greenlight exchanged guilty glances but ultimately remained loyal to the First. {{storylink|Desperate Times}} When the Cybertronian fleet tried to claim Carcer by force, Greenlight and Lancer remained in the control room, reporting everything to Obsidian, including the hull breach that had sealed itself suspiciously fast. {{storylink|Desperate Measures (Till All Are One)|Desperate Measures}}

When Windblade awoke Carcer however, Cybertron learnt he was truly Vigilem, the Titan of [[Liege Maximo]] who had freed his master before dying. Soon after heading out however, the trio came under attack from the Prime's [[Maximal]] enforcers, damaging their long range communications. By the time they'd repaired them, they were in [[G Nebula 89]] as the [[Decepticon Vengeance Division]] squared off against [[Unicron/Generation 1|Unicron]]. Despite their immense firepower, the [[Decepticon fleet]] failed to damage the Chaos Bringer, with Chromia ordering the ship back to Cybertron once Unicron teleported away. {{storylink|Stranger Eons}} When the trio returned however, Unicron had now assumed a towering robot mode and had sent the mutated DVD against the [[Autobot fleet]] defending the planet. {{storylink|Our Finest}} As Unicron began to tear into Cybertron however, the [[Spectral Knight]]s used the [[magic]] of the [[Talisman (G1)|Talisman]] to teleport the planet's population to the safe haven of [[Earth]], the fleet following shortly afterwards thanks to Elita One's sacrifice. {{storylink|Road's End}}

A xenobiologist, Greenlight fell in love with [[Arcee (G1)|Arcee]] at some point after the end of the [[War of the Threefold Spark]] and the two set up a life together. {{storylink|Arcee/Greenlight: Run}} During [[Sentinel Prime (G1)|Sentinel Prime]]'s reign, Arcee was chosen to mentor a young Cybertronian and Greenlight joined her partner at the [[Pyramid (Cybertron)|Pyramid]] for the customary ceremony where [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Orion Pax]] introduced the pair to their ward, [[Gauge]]. {{storylink|The World In Your Eyes Part Four}} Not long afterwards, Greenlight lent her biological knowledge to an investigation surrounding several murders in [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]], and assisted [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] with a forenstic autopsy on the young Cybertronian [[Rubble]] and a dead [[Voin]]. The specialists agreed that both victims were struck with massive force, meaning they were likely killed by the same perpetrator. Things only grew worse in the days that followed, which culminated in the destruction of the [[Memorial Crater]] and the explosive death of an immersant [[Titan (group)|Titan]]. Fearing that Cybertron would no longer be safe for Gauge, Greenlight looked for a way off-world and learned that [[Heretech]]'s [[Reversionist]] faction planned to leave the planet aboard the starship ''[[Exodus (G1 ship)|Exodus]]''. While Gauge apprenticed herself to [[Grapple (G1)|Grapple]], Greenlight raised her concerns to a reluctant Arcee, but had to assuage Gauge's concerns when the litle 'bot overheard some malicious rumors about her forging. The situation soon spiralled out of control after [[The Rise]] attacked the [[Winged Moon]], sending the [[Tether]] crashing down on top of Iacon. In the chaos that followed, Arcee agreed with Greenlight's plan to leave their homeworld as soon as possible. But once the Exodus had taken flight, both Greenlight and Arcee were imprisoned in the engine rooms while the Reversionists kidnapped Gauge. While together in their cell, Greenlight had the idea to flash a hidden message to Gauge through the ship.{{storylink|Gauging the Truth: Part One}} It succeeds, and Gauge reunites with them from outside. Through the psychic patch, Gauge's memories of running {{storylink|Arcee/Greenlight: Run}} from Cybertron are returned. Arcee cites Greenlight as a genius, and says it's one of many reasons that she loves Greenlight. She and Arcee know the Reversionists are planning something, and ask Gauge for help. The mentee is caught and chased by guards into the engine room. Now free, Greenlight fights alongside her companions before the Reversionists can sound an alarm.

Greenlight helped [[Strika (BM)|Strika]], Lancer and the Elite Guard fortify Median against [[Rage (G1)|Rage]]'s [[Stormtrooper (G1)|Stormtrooper]]s. Unlike her fellow neophyte Lancer, however, Greenlight showed no interest in engaging the enemy. She remained in hiding near the dig with Glyph and Flip Sides while the others fought off the Decepticons. Greenlight grew increasingly bored, saying that no one had used the space bridge in weeks, and she wasn't really sure that actual Cybertronians had come through it. Firestar participated in a raid on one of [[Shockwave (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Shockwave]]'s [[energon]] supply stores, and fell under attack when the group was discovered thanks to [[Moonracer (G1)|Moonracer]]'s carelessness. They managed to escape and the team returned to their hidden base with the stolen energon.

The Decepticons attacked again, however. Trying to capture Elita One, [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] caused the Female Autobots' underground base to collapse, with most of them in it. They survived and managed to free themselves some time later. Unfortunately the [[Way of Flame]] expects people to form an [[Amica Endura]] within ten megacycles or be cast out as "officially lonely", and Firestar's ego and need to undercut others meant she couldn't ''get'' a best friend. She ended up reciting the [[Oath of Constancy]] to her roommate [[Nautica (G1)|Nautica]], who was nothing like her but was also desperate to not be written off. They went on to be fractious "besties" and sorority members, trying to get on but not quite managing it, and Firestar viewed their relationship as waiting for Nautica to "catch up" to her and not ride coattails. Much like others, she called her friend "Naughty Nautica" for not trying to be an artist: not a nickname that Nautica appreciated. {{storylink|The Sensuous Frame}} {{storylink|The Frail Gaze}} While berating Nautica for her inability to dance (and her indifference to), Firestar got progressively angrier until a medical student named [[Velocity (G1)|Velocity]] put out her head flame with a blast of water. Months later, she herself and many of the old sorority went out searching for that first group, and thanks to the [[personality tick]]s infecting their pilot they had to be saved by [[Thunder Clash|Thunderclash]]. Only a not-dead-after-all Thunderclash allowed them to escape and, taking shelter with Nautica's allies, a panicked Firestar admitted to her "First Officer" fib; she helped [[Nightbeat (G1)|Nightbeat]] identify what the creatures were when she noted all their victims had charisma but when the ticks broke in, she cowered in a fetal position rather than fight. After the crisis was sorted, she made it clear she was going back home to Caminus and couldn't understand why Nautica viewed this violent, scary horrorshow as "space adventures".

Before parting, she suggested they break up as they weren't that good a mix, she hadn't been that good a friend, and Nautica was better than her. Not willing to see her friend be pilloried for the Camien sin of "platonic severance", Nautica told her they were different but still friends. Later on, both for appearances and to let [[Velocity (G1)|Velocity]] have better career opportunities than she would at home, Firestar convinced her to move to the ''Light'' to "help Nautica out". {{storylink|The Frail Gaze}}

Firestar participated in a raid on one of [[Shockwave (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Shockwave]]'s [[energon]] supply stores, and fell under attack when the group was discovered thanks to [[Moonracer (G1)|Moonracer]]'s carelessness. They managed to escape and the team returned to their hidden base with the stolen energon.

The Decepticons attacked again, however. Trying to capture Elita One, [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] caused the Female Autobots' underground base to collapse, with most of them in it. They survived and managed to free themselves some time later. Unfortunately the [[Way of Flame]] expects people to form an [[Amica Endura]] within ten megacycles or be cast out as "officially lonely", and Firestar's ego and need to undercut others meant she couldn't ''get'' a best friend. She ended up reciting the [[Oath of Constancy]] to her roommate [[Nautica (G1)|Nautica]], who was nothing like her but was also desperate to not be written off. They went on to be fractious "besties" and sorority members, trying to get on but not quite managing it, and Firestar viewed their relationship as waiting for Nautica to "catch up" to her and not ride coattails. Under the terms of the [[Nominus Edict]], [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]'s ability to forge new Transformers became greatly limited, limited to only a handful of forgings every kilocycle; Gauge's creation was thus something of an anomaly, as she was forged only a few weeks after [[Rubble]]. {{storylink|The World In Your Eyes Part Four}} Some Cybertronians saw this as a political move, one designed to distract Cybertronians from the recent murder of [[Brainstorm (G1)|Brainstorm]], and that her forging had only been authorized ''because'' of Brainstorm's death. {{storylink|The World In Your Eyes Part Four}} {{storylink|Arcee/Greenlight: Run}}

Like every other newborn Cybertronian before her, Gauge was forged in the great [[Pyramid (Cybertron)|Pyramid]] in the city of [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]], where a celebration was held to welcome her into the world. There, she was introduced to her newly chosen-mentor Arcee and Arcee's partner [[Greenlight]]; observing these events, [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] noted that she had essentially received two mentors for the price of one. {{storylink|The World In Your Eyes Part Four}}

Over the next few weeks, Gauge continued to settle into life on Cybertron, and with Arcee's help she began to try her hand at several prospective careers, oblivious to the rising tensions that threatened to engulf the planet. While working with [[Grapple (G1)|Grapple]]'s architectural division, Gauge told Arcee that she'd heard some of the other workers gossiping about her forging, prompting Arcee to confront the 'bots responsible. No sooner had Arcee chewed them out, however, then a great shaodw blotted out the city skyline: the [[Tether]] collapsed, destroying vast swathes of the city. Gauge, her mentor, and Greenlight helped to evacuate survivors and clear debris, but Gauge's curiosity led her to be shot by a looter who'd taken the opportunity to steal some [[energon]] from a nearby storage facility. Although unharmed, the experience provoked Arcee into agreeing with Greenlight: Cybertron was no longer safe and they would be evacuating the planet immediately. Racing through an exploding energon storage field to the takeoff site of the ''[[Exodus (G1 ship)|Exodus]]'', Arcee and Greenlight tried to get Gauge to safety aboard the [[Reversionist]] vessel. Although it initially seemed like Arcee sacrificed herself to let the other two members of her family board the ship, she was able to rejoin them at the last moment, and the three happily embraced as the ship lifted off. {{storylink|Arcee/Greenlight: Run}}

When the Reversionists discovered Gauge and her mentors on board the Exodus, she was stripped away from Arcee and Greenlight. She was young enough to have her memory tampered with, and was subject to a memory wipe. They indoctrinated Gauge and reassigned her as the mentee of [[Accelerator]]. Gauge vigorously practiced Reversionism on board the Exodus. Heretech taught the Reversionists revere [[Primus]], performing tasks daily such as devotion and chores. She memorized all of the teachings of her plenary, and dutifully followed instructions for some time, until Gauge noticed a strange code began appearing and disappearing throughout her days on the ship. Her attention was shifted entirely to cracking this code, beginning to forget her chores and be tardy for devotion, much to Accelerator's annoyance. Knowing the code was distracting her, Gauge initially figured it was the dark forces of Cybertron trying to lead her astray. The symbol flashed on a screen above Heretech's throne during a session of devotion. Gauge tried to approach the throne, but accidentally bumped into a fellow curate and knocked them over. She vowed to be more careful as she got close to the plenary's throne. However, Heretech noticed her and blocked her way, demanding to know what she was doing. Shocked that he spoke to her, she fell to her knees and asked how she could serve him. Before she could decide if it was a sign she should abandon her pursuit of the mysterious code, Heretech asserted that he did everything for her as a curate, and shamed her in front of her fellow shipmates. Gauge felt betrayed by the bot who was supposedly her god. Running to her room, she vowed she couldn't trust anyone. Suddenly, Gauge realizes the code was meant specifically for her, and the translation was a word beckoning her to the engine room; "heresy". A guard noticed Gauge intruding and began to chase her down. As she ran from them, Gauge realized that despite never running from anything to her knowledge, it felt all too familiar.{{storylink|Arcee/Greenlight: Run}} The bot chasing her down collides with her as she stops dead in her tracks. Knocking out the guard as they recovered, she ran deeper into the ship. Deep below, she finds the engine room. Gauge finally sees who has been sending her the message; the imprisoned Arcee and Greenlight. Arcee greets Gauge, saying they want to tell her the truth.
