The ion blaster is a kind of laser rifle and the primary weapon of several Optimus Primes. Only used by the leader of the Autobots when all attempts at peace have failed, the ion blaster ensures that freedom is the right of all sentient beings, and strikes fear in the sparks of the Decepticons who are foolish enough to challenge him.

Except Megatron. Only Primus knows how many times Optimus has shot Megatron and failed to kill him. Starscream knows that frustration all too well.

Grimlock used the ion blaster against Starscream after Optimus Prime was defeated and brought before Megatron by the Dinobots. War of the Dinobots

Optimus Prime's ion blaster was stolen from him a few times. The first was when the Decepticons tried to take over New York City, when he was disassembled by Hook. The Constructicons then placed the arm and ion blaster atop the command post of the newly dubbed New Cybertron. As part of the building's weapons systems, Megatron used the blaster to begin firing on the Autobots. However, when Megatron and Soundwave were removed from the command post, Optimus Prime was able to regain control of the weapon and hit Devastator with it, sending him to the hard pavement below. City of Steel (episode)

Later, the human-built ninjabot Nightbird stole the ion blaster when she tried to steal the World Energy Chip, but Optimus Prime recovered it rather quickly. Enter the Nightbird

When both Autobots and Decepticons briefly allied to free Cybertron from the rogue Combaticons, Optimus used his blaster to target Bruticus's weakpoint, felling the combiner. The Revenge of Bruticus

During the Battle of Autobot City, Optimus attempted to use it to slay Megatron once and for all only for Hot Rod to interfere. The Transformers: The Movie

Upon being revived by Quintessons, Optimus used the weapon to chase away Galvatron. Dark Awakening (episode) When properly returned to life, Optimus kept his weapon and used it in the final battles of the Great War. The Rebirth, Part 2 The Rebirth, Part 3
During a fight with Devastator, Optimus Prime drove up on the massive robot while removing his ion blaster from a compartment on his back. Then he shot Devastator's face off. Prime Directive issue 5

Ion blasters were among the weapons the Decepticons smuggled onto Cybertron via Hefter. Jetfire grabbed one and shot down a Decepticon enforcer, saving the life of Orion Pax. New Cybertron End: Feel Safe Without Regrets Prowl later claimed the weapon as evidence in the case. The Next Day, and the Next

Ironfist fashioned Optimus Prime's ion blaster during his first campaign in the Manganese Mountains, though unfortunately Prime mistook Ironfist for his chief rival, Skyfall. Last Stand of the Wreckers issue 4

While in vehicle mode, Optimus Prime keeps his (folded up) ion blaster in his cab. When he transforms, the Ion blaster is ejected, allowing him to grab it in midair. So that's where it goes. Now if we could only figure out where the trailer goes... During the course of the battle, a shot from Prime's ion blaster managed to blow up Megatron's much-more powerful fusion cannon by entering through the cannon's barrel. Escalation issue 5

He kept the weapon after changing his name back to Orion Pax Syndromica (2) before getting a version incorporated into his left arm. Homecoming (IDW) Despite this, he reverted to the hand held version soon after. Black Metal: Dark Cybertron Chapter 2

While speaking to the President of the United States, Optimus regarded the weapon before he handed it off to Aileron who spent the rest of the day awkwardly carrying around a gun half her size. The Next Day, and the Next

Optimus' ion blaster was last seen in his possession as he and Arcee fought through a horde of Unicron's antibodies as they followed the Talisman to Unicron before Optimus sacrificed himself to fell the monster. Ceremony
Optimus Prime's primary range weapon is an ion blaster, though he prefers to use his Dual Energon Swords in combat, leaving the blaster stored in his back in the form of fuel tanks. Once fired, it releases a wave of radiation condensed into an energy ball that will destroy anything in its path. During the battle of Mission City, Optimus managed to get off a single shot of his ion blaster at Megatron before he was sent flying by the latter's fusion cannon. Transformers (film)

Two years later, Optimus was fighting Demolishor in Shanghai and critically injured the Decepticon by putting several point blank shots into his head. He later executed the dying Constructicon with a shot through the optic. Several days later, Optimus shot at Megatron and Starscream with his ion blaster and barrage cannon while rescuing Sam Witwicky. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (film)

Three years later, during his battle against Sentinel Prime in Chicago, Optimus Prime tried to defend himself from the Decepticons fighter ships using his ion blaster, but was mostly unsuccessful and apparently lost his blaster in the explosions. Transformers: Dark of the Moon (film)
Notes
*In the original toy and the original cartoon, Prime's weapon was referred to as a laser rifle, but many newer toys have called it an ion blaster.
*One notable aspect of Optimus Prime's Generation 1 and Generation 2 toys is that the figure can only hold it by the ammo casing, as the weapon handle is unable to fit in Prime's hand. Also, the gun's rifle butt is too large for Prime to hold it straight, so the gun must be turned at a slight angle. Strangely, this has never been altered in reissues.
*The Japanese-exclusive Robotmasters toy packaging calls this weapon the Convoy Gun.
*In the 2007 movie, the Ion Blaster is seen only once being used against Megatron. ONCE.
*In Dark of the Moon, the Ion Blaster was redesigned, given that it was now stored in Prime's trailer as opposed to being formed out of the fuel tanks of his vehicle mode.

This gun was replaced by an energon sword on the "Premium" retool/redeco of this toy in 2008.
Each of the weapon halves features two 5mm posts, as well as a peg-hole on their hollow sides, while the combined form features another peg-hole at the top, but makes the peg-holes on the hollow sides inaccessible.

:In an undocumented feature, Starscream's tail-fin is attached via a 5mm post on its underside, and can be detached to reveal three additional peg-holes, with two of these peg-holes being just the right distance to accommodate the two pegs found on the underside of the combined assault cannons/rifle, with the tail-fin pegging on the rifle's top peg-hole. ==Synopsis==

The Rescue Bots play a ball game refereed by Cody. Blades objects to Heatwave blocking his goal, but the other Bot responds that it's a training exercise and they need to expect the unexpected. The tables are turned moments later when his goal is intercepted by Quickshadow, who jets into the air and scores a goal herself. The ensuing trash talk is interrupted by a plane overhead with someone clutching onto the wing. The team goes into action, but before Dani and Blades can pluck the man from the plane, he falls, and by the time the team reaches him, he's already on the ground. To Kade's shock, it turns out to be his favorite movie star, Maven Danger. While Kade starts fawning, Quickshadow backs off to avoid being recognized. Chief lectures Danger on the danger he put everyone in, and they're soon joined by Danger's stunt double and manager, who Dani recognizes as Skip Scobble, an old schoolmate. Skip reveals they've come to research Maven's next movie, and though Chief's reluctant, Skip already has approval from the mayor.

Back at the firehouse, the Bots wonder how they're going to be able to work with Maven Danger staying with them. Quickshadow reveals she's returning to the mainland — as her alternate mode is the car from the Maven Danger movies, her cover is likely to be blown if the star sees her. Unfortunately Maven Danger picks this moment to tour the firehouse and, spotting Quickshadow in her alternate mode, assumes the studio has had his car sent over. As the tour moves to the living quarters, Skip hands Cody to film some behind-the-scenes stuff while he goes and runs errands. Kade shows Maven Danger the merchandise he's collected, but Danger is pretty much a jerk the whole time.

That night, Heatwave finds Kade watching a Maven Danger film. The alarm sounds, and Chief reports that there's an emergency at the library, but Kade's attempts to rouse Maven Danger are unsuccessful. The team heads to the library where Ms Lima is attempting to tackle an intruder herself, but gets sealed in the rare books section. The fire system starts sucking the air out of the room. Heatwave smashes the locking system, only to find now the doors won't unlock at all, and start trying to bash his way through the door. Meanwhile, Blades and Dani lose the intruder when he ducks into a manhole. Heatwave and Chase manage to rescue Ms Lima, but as they check the security footage, they find the intruder hasn't taken anything.

Morning arrives and Maven Danger rises, but is uninterested in helping the team with their cleaning duties. Skip borrows Maven and Cody to film some test footage, and Kade finds himself trying to defend his hero's obnoxious behavior once again. Professor Baranova contacts the team to report a break in at the laboratory, however again the intruder didn't steal anything.

The alarm sounds again at the firehouse, this time interrupting Maven Danger's slumber. The star turns down riding with Kade for instead driving in Quickshadow, though he's surprised by the "changes" to the car. Quickshadow feigns being an onboard computer, though when he taps the steering wheel, she pretends it's affecting her gyroscope and starts steering wildly. The rest of the team finds Mr Harrison's helipack is out of control again. As Quickshadow arrives, the Bots snare Mr Harrison. Maven, upset at the mess his hair is now in, tries to shut down the helipack only to end up being carried into the air by it. Despite Kade's attempts to give him instructions on shutting the thing down, Maven crashes into a tree and is less than grateful when Chase helps him down. Heatwave hits the helipack with foam, and Boulder manages to catch it before it hits Maven, who promptly faints. As Kade starts wondering why he ever considered Maven a hero, Skip arrives and Chief informs him that he and Danger are causing too much trouble. Skip tries to persuade him to let them film one scene before they leave, and when he sweetens the deal by letting the Burns kids take part, Chief agrees.

With an area of town shut off, Skip gives everyone their instructions before going to phone the studio. The Bots are all stuck at the firehouse, but Blades's complaining is interrupted by an intruder. As the Bots make like robots, the intruder grabs the book Boulder was reading. The Bots stop him, and the intruder reveals himself as Skip, claiming that he was picking up a prop to take to the set. The Bots transform to take him. Cody, having observed events remotely, informs Chief, and soon the reluctant Skip arrives at the movie set in custody. As it turns out, the book Skip was stealing, Pilgrim's Progress is extremely rare and worth a fortune. Skip tries to escape using the stunt elevator shoes, however it's Maven who's wearing them. Maven goes flying into the air and lands on the escaping Skip, who is promptly cuffed. Demanding someone get him off the island, Maven collapses into Quickshadow, who drives him away screaming.
