'''Nickelodeon''' (often referred to as '''Nick''' for short) is a cable channel dedicated to children's programming, owned by Paramount Global. The first of its kind, the network launched on [[April 1]], [[1979]], and became a global juggernaut in the 1990s by showcasing its own live-action programming and in-house animated cartoons (dubbed as "Nicktoons") dedicated to families worldwide. The Nicktoon lineup include the likes of ''Rugrats'', ''Doug'', ''The Ren & Stimpy Show'', ''[[Carlos Alazraqui|Rocko's Modern Life]]'', ''Hey Arnold'', ''The Angry Beavers'', ''[[Tom Kenny|SpongeBob SquarePants]]'', ''Invader Zim'', ''[[Mark Hamill|Avatar: The Last Airbender]]'', ''The Loud House'', and countless others, alongside live-action programming such as ''The Adventures of Pete & Pete'', ''All That!'', ''Kenan & Kel'', ''iCarly'', and from 2011-2021, [[Hasbro]]'s own ''[[Power Rangers]]''. They are also the current owners of the ''Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles'' and ''Garfield'' franchises.

Nickelodeon later expanded to establish programming blocks outside of their main demographic, launching "Nick Jr." for pre-schoolers, "TeenNick" for teenagers, "Nick at Nite" for prime-time television, and "NickRewind" for older programming. Since 1988, Nickelodeon has held its own awards ceremony called the "Kids' Choice Awards", in which the likes of [[Dwayne Johnson]], [[Josh Duhamel]], [[Mark Wahlberg]] and [[John Cena]] have served as hosts and been slimed in the time-honored tradition of the brand. In 1995, the Nickelodeon Movies production company was launched, with sister studio [[Paramount Pictures]] distributing their films.

==Social media posts==
In [[December]] [[2022]], many of Nickelodeon's Instagram accounts promoted ''EarthSpark'' airing on Paramount+ by posting pictures of classic Nicktoons characters as converting robots. Though most of them are traced from pre-existing ''Transformers'' art, they all lack the copyright indicia to suggest these were authorized by Hasbro, so they're kind of in a legal grey area since they have been otherwise okayed by the company that produces the current ''Transformers'' cartoon. We've mirrored them all here below, due to the impermanent nature of social media, and just because we think they're neat.

During the [[1999]]-[[2000]] television season in the United States, the [[Beast Wars: Transformers (cartoon)|''Beast Wars'' cartoon]] was rebroadcast on the {{w|Fox Broadcasting Company|Fox Broadcasting}} network's children's programming block (which, depending on the market, may have been on a WB, UPN or independent station, as many of Fox's larger stations, often ones that had switched from ABC, CBS or NBC at some point, did not carry the block) alongside the first season of ''[[Beast Machines: Transformers (cartoon)|Beast Machines]]''. In conjunction with these reruns, [[Hasbro]] released a few [[wave]]s of [[redeco]]ed [[Beast Wars: Transformers (toyline)|''Beast Wars'' toys]] with the '''Fox Kids''' logo on the packaging; hence, these toys have become known as "Fox Kids redecoes" (or more commonly but less correctly, "Fox Kids repaints") among collectors.

Fox Kids would later go on to air the [[Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2001 cartoon)|''Robots in Disguise'' cartoon]] in [[2001]]-[[2002]].

==Censorship==
The Beast Wars episodes aired on Fox Kids were conspicuously re-edited to remove sequences of graphic and not-so-graphic violence. These edits often took the form of a relatively slow and ''extremely obvious'' onscreen fade-to-black; during a prolonged fight scene, several such fades could occur in quick succession. Sequences edited out for Fox Kids broadcast include:

* [[Tarantulas (BW)|Tarantulas]] being impaled by [[Optimus Primal (BW)/Beast Wars cartoon continuity|Optimus Primal]] in "[[Gorilla Warfare]]".
* [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] being brutally pummelled by [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] in "[[The Spark]]".
* Tarantulas being set on fire by [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]] in "[[Other Voices, Part 2]]".
* [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] grabbing and lifting [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] by the throat in "[[Aftermath]]".
* [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]] being headbutted by Blackarachnia in "[[Proving Grounds]]".

Though, other, non-violence-related edits would also be made (possibly for time constraints), such as cutting Rattrap's immediate reaction to Blackarachnia's slipping away in "[[Aftermath]]".

Though the ''RID'' cartoon, adapted from ''Car Robots'', had always been lighter fare than Beast Wars, it too was edited for violent content on Fox Kids. In particular, depictions of characters (especially Autobots) firing missiles or other projectile [[weapon]]s would be removed. In such cases the cuts were handled much more smoothly and unobtrusively than had been the case with the Beast Wars edits.

In the aftermath of the [[September 11]] terrorist attacks, Fox Kids was leery of cartoon imagery of skyscrapers being bombarded. Several ''RID'' episodes were canceled altogether, others never re-aired again, and many significantly edited to remove the offending sequences.
