Wheeljack was a member of the Wreckers black ops. After the [[Great Exodus]], the Autobots remaining on Cybertron encountered the inventor and engineer wandering outside [[Crystal City]]. They took him in, with [[Alpha Trion (WFC)|Alpha Trion]] theorizing that he had escaped from [[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]]'s facilities there. Wheeljack proceeded to equip the resistance with new gadgets and weaponry, but his true loyalty remained to science, rather than the Autobots.

When [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] went dark, he began traveling the stars alone in the ''[[Jackhammer (Prime)|Jackhammer]]''. {{storylink|Con Job}} Eventually he reached [[Earth]]'s [[Solar System]] and was hailed by the Autobots stationed there, including Bulkhead. As he was coming in to land at the coordinates provided by [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]], his ship was attacked and shot down by [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicons]]. Wheeljack emerged from the ''Jackhammer'' and proceeded to trash the Decepticons, but was eventually overwhelmed and taken back to the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]'' where he was imprisoned. He was amused to find that [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] was in command of the Decepticons, and almost goaded Starscream into killing him.

An opportunity allowed him to kill his guard and break free from his bonds. He scaled to the top of the ship, where Starscream was waiting for [[Makeshift (Prime)|Makeshift]], who'd taken on Wheeljack's appearance, to open the Autobot [[GroundBridge]]. Wheeljack smashed a bunch of Vehicons and assaulted Starscream before escaping through the GroundBridge to the [[Autobot Outpost Omega One|Autobot base]]. There he confronted Makeshift and the pair dueled with swords until Wheeljack was victorious. Bulkhead tossed Makeshift back through the GroundBridge along with a "present" for the 'cons.

Though the Autobots welcomed Wheeljack, he revealed that he intended to return to space. He invited Bulkhead along, but Bulkhead was too attached to his friends on Earth to leave. {{storylink|Con Job}}

When [[Miko Nakadai (Prime)|Miko]] was trying to stir Bulkhead's memory after he absorbed the data from the [[Cybertronian data cylinder]] she mentioned Wheeljack, and showed Bulkhead the picture she took of them together before he left. During his travels, Wheeljack made contact with fellow Wrecker [[Seaspray (Prime)|Seaspray]] only for [[Dreadwing (Prime)|Dreadwing]] to destroy Seaspray's ship. Wheeljack chased Dreadwing to Earth where they battled near a gas station, which was destroyed in the conflict as [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]]'s team arrived. Filling the other Autobots in, Wheeljack found himself chafing over the need for secrecy. When Dreadwing called him to arrange a meeting, Wheeljack took Bulkhead to try and trap the Decepticon. The encounter instead left Wheeljack buried.

Once Optimus dug him out, he accompanied the Autobot leader to the port where Bulkhead had been taken by Dreadwing and attempted to remove the bomb the Decepticon had placed on his comrade. Eventually he was forced to concede only Dreadwing could remove the bomb, and he and Optimus played a gambit that forced Dreadwing's hand. Convinced to stay on Earth by the other Autobots, Wheeljack adopted a new alternate mode and drove off to explore the planet. {{storylink|Loose Cannons}} He also used the time to become quite familar with the location of key Decepticon Energon mines. {{storylink|Hurt}}

As the Autobots split up to retrieve the four new Iacon relics, Optimus told Ratchet that he'd need Wheeljack's help for the mission ahead. Remembering his past experiences with the Wrecker, Ratchet was naturally reluctant to go through with the idea, but Optimus reminded the medic that he would need a capable warrior like Wheeljack to watch his back. {{storylink|Triangulation}}

Ratchet rendezvoused with Wheeljack by the ''Jackhammer'', and they headed out in the ship to find the relic. Wheeljack quickly got on Ratchet's nerve by calling him "doc" and "sunshine" but soon encountered [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]]. The Wrecker engaged Soundwave in a dog fight using some fancy aerial flight moves, but against the advice of Ratchet, Wheeljack let Soundwave go and attacked [[Laserbeak (WFC)|Laserbeak]]. After a lengthy dog fight, Wheeljack shot the [[Mini-Con]] down, but the ''Jackhammer'' was also disabled. On the ground Wheeljack found Laserbeak and suggested planting a grenade inside of the Mini-Con to kill Soundwave, but Ratchet had a better idea: A virus which would download the entire Iacon data base into their systems.

While Ratchet set about implanting the virus into Laserbeak, Wheeljack went after Soundwave, soon locating and attacking the Decepticon. Though he almost got the upper hand, Soundwave hit him with the [[Resonance Blaster]], and Wheeljack barely had time to warn Ratchet before falling unconscious. Despite the damage, Wheeljack refused to return to base for treatment and instead set about fixing his ship. But before Ratchet left, Wheeljack finally acknowledged the doctor by name. {{storylink|Triage}}

Wheeljack was called in to the base when Bulkhead turned up critically injured. While he had full confidence in Ratchet's abilities, he decided to go find the responsible parties. Joined by Miko, he attacked an energon mine to draw out [[Hardshell (Prime)|Hardshell]]. This succeeded, and Wheeljack left Miko in the ship while he faced the Insecticons. Unfortunately Hardshell was too much for him to handle, but as he was about to be killed, Miko interceded in the fight, blasting Hardshell with the ''Jackhammer''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> missiles. After losing the rest of the Insecticon swarm by throwing a box of grenades at them, Wheeljack welcomed Miko to the ranks of the Wreckers. The pair returned to base, though Wheeljack didn't want to see his friend lying comatose and left. {{storylink|Hurt}} Ratchet held a grudge over Wheeljack's revenge stunt, and when Arcee suggested calling the Wrecker in to cover for Bulkhead, Ratchet objected. After picking up the [[Omega Lock]]'s immense energy surge, Wheeljack returned to the Autobot base to find it under attack by Decepticon forces. He joined Fowler in attempting to hold the Decepticons off, until his ship was eventually shot down by Starscream. {{storylink|Darkest Hour (episode)|Darkest Hour}} Pulled from the wreckage of the ''Jackhammer'', Wheeljack was taken into the Decepticon citadel and interrogated by Starscream. {{storylink|Darkmount, NV}} When even a [[cortical psychic patch]] failed to yield any information, Starscream planted a tracking device on Wheeljack and ordered his execution. Wheeljack, of course, promptly escaped during the execution and salvaged as much as he could from the wreck of his ship. After joining Bulkhead and Miko, he used the tracking device he'd found to trap a number of Decepticons. {{storylink|Scattered}} He, Miko and Bulkhead were preparing to destroy an energon mine when they were attacked by a [[Predaking (Prime)|giant metal dragon]]. Even Wheeljack luring it into the mine before detonating didn't slow it down. Fortunately, the three Wreckers were rescued by [[Ultra Magnus (WFC)|Ultra Magnus]] and soon reunited with most of the rest of the team. {{storylink|Prey (episode)|Prey}}

Bulkhead and Wheeljack provided a diversion at the base of [[Darkmount (Earth)|Darkmount]], lobbing grenades and destroying Decepticons while the other Autobots attacked by other means. The pair were eventually captured by [[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]], but when Optimus Prime returned and joined the assault, they renewed their attack on the Decepticons. Wheeljack and Ultra Magnus returned to the Autobots' old base to scavenge what they could from the wreckage. He was excited to find the Wreckers' old lobbing ball, but when he lobbed it at Bulkhead without warning, it nearly crushed Miko. After a stern talking to from Ultra Magnus and an intense stare down between the two of them, Wheeljack stormed off. He was later teamed with Bulkhead and Magnus to respond to a Decepticon sighting in [[Scotland]]. {{storylink|Project Predacon}} Wheeljack took Miko along, concealed in his chest. That fact, and his continued refusal to follow protocol, continued to rub Ultra Magnus up the wrong way as they infiltrated the Decepticon mine. Finding themselves up against the Predacon once again, Wheeljack attempted to throw a grenade into its mouth, but this backfired and instead brought the cavern down on them. The failure of the mission brought even more tension but Magnus , upon seeing Miko using the Apex Armor to beat the scrap out of the Decepticons, admitted that Wheeljack may have been right to bring her along. At this, Wheeljack opted to leave the team, saying that he wanted to remember the Wreckers as they were at that moment, before "the rust set in." {{storylink|Chain of Command (Prime)|Chain of Command}}

However, Wheeljack returned to [[Hangar E]], where he was immediately requested to retrieve another Predacon bone with Arcee. Wheeljack grudgingly agreed. When they reached the location of the bone, they were ambushed by Vehicon troopers, but easily dispatched them. While they were searching the area, Arcee took the opportunity to grill Wheeljack on why he liked to act like a loner, citing the fact that if he truly liked being alone, he would not have groundbridged back to base, but would have simply hit the road. Wheeljack admitted that he didn't leave the Wreckers just because of Ultra Magnus, but also because he could not bare to see Bulkhead go soft on him. Arcee convinced him not to push Bulkhead away, because if something were to happen to him, Wheeljack would never forgive himself. After retrieving the Predacon remains, Arcee received a call from Jack, who was afraid that his mother had gotten into trouble while retrieving a Predacon bone. Sure enough, Arcee and Wheeljack found June and Agent Fowler in the clutches of the Decepticon Knock Out. After dealing with some Insecticons sent to aid Knock Out, Wheeljack managed to save June and Fowler. Upon returning to base, Wheeljack went to talk to Bulkhead. {{storylink|Plus One}}

Perhaps hoping to win over Ultra Magnus, Wheeljack recalibrated the engines on Magnus's ship. When the team went on a mission to secure some energon, Wheeljack and Magnus discovered Shockwave's cloning operation in an abandoned mine. They blew it up, only to discover that the sole existing Predacon had become intelligent and was now after them. The pair fought [[Predaking (Prime)|Predaking]] at length, but lost despite their efforts. They were only saved by the intervention of Optimus, who took them back to base for repairs. {{storylink|Evolution}}

When the Decepticons started stealing technology, Wheeljack was part of a team which was called out to a location but arrived too late to prevent the Vehicons escaping with the tech. They were able to capture Soundwave though. Wheeljack persuaded Ratchet to let Ultra Magnus come along on their next mission to the [[Solaris particle collider]]. The team entered the [[Antarctica|Antarctic]] base to encounter heavy resistance from a group of Vehicons. {{storylink|Minus One}} With the aid of one of Wheeljack's grenades, they caught up with Shockwave, only for the Decepticon to be whisked away by Predaking. Returning to base, the Autobots found that Ratchet had been abducted by Soundwave, however Wheeljack and Raf used a piece of Laserbeak to construct a [[Chip|small aerial drone]] which they hoped would lead them to the Decepticon warship. {{storylink|Persuasion}}

They launched the probe and monitored it and Optimus's progress from the base. Though the probe was destroyed, Ratchet was able to send them the coordinates to the Decepticon warship, and Wheeljack and the others geared up in preparation to assault the ''Nemesis''. {{storylink|Synthesis}} The three Wreckers were ordered to take the bridge, however no sooner did they reach their target than Soundwave bridged them to another part of the ship. By the time they reached the bridge again, it had already been captured by Jack and Miko. With the warship until their control, the Autobots flew it to Cybertron and used the Omega Lock to restore their home world. After Optimus's obligatory speech, Wheeljack and the others shared a mutual salute with Fowler before returning home. {{storylink|Deadlock}}

Following a ceremony to promote Bumblebee to warrior, Wheeljack accompanied Optimus Prime as a pilot in a search for the [[AllSpark]]. They tracked it down to [[Theta Scorpii]] where Optimus was able to retrieve it, and Wheeljack set course back to Cybertron. They arrived to find [[Unicron]] had returned and was attempting to use an army of undead Predacons to destroy Cybertron's core. The ship was shot down, though Wheeljack survived and was helped from the wreck by Bulkhead. Upon their return, Wheeljack tried lobbing his old lobbing ball at Bulkhead, but when the Wrecker failed to catch it, it almost crushed Miko. Ultra Magnus then angrily vilified Wheeljack, causing the Wrecker to storm off. Magnus was later instructed by Optimus Prime to lead Bulkhead and Wheeljack in a response team to a Decepticon sighting in [[Scotland]]. He took the [[Forge of Solus Prime]] with him, hoping to put it to some practical use. {{storylink|Project Predacon}} He remained unimpressed with Wheeljack's failure to follow orders, and even more so when it turned out the Wrecker had brought Miko along. Ultra Magnus continued to find himself having trouble fitting in with Team Prime, even being ditched when Optimus Prime would return to base. Optimus was talking to Magnus about his commanding issues when they detected raw energon being moved. Magnus joined the others in capturing it then exploring the mine with the Wreckers, and Smokescreen. He and Wheeljack explored one side of the mine and stumbled on [[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]]'s laboratory full of Predacon clones. After engaging Shockwave they destroyed it, only to encounter [[Predaking (Prime)|Predaking]], now able to transform into a robot, on their way out. Despite acquitting themselves well against the Predacon, the pair were soundly defeated, with the Predacon breaking the Forge and crushing Magnus's right hand. Only the intervention of Optimus saved them. With the technology available, Ratchet was only able to supply Magnus with a makeshift claw to replace his hand. To make things worse, Magnus was forced to stay at base, forbidden to go out into battle until he had recovered some dexterity in his new appendage. With some persuasion on Wheeljack's behalf, Magnus was allowed to go on a mission to the [[Solaris particle collider]] in [[Antarctica]]. He led the other Autobots into the base while Optimus faced Predaking outside, and the team ran into heavy Vehicon resistance. {{storylink|Minus One}} Magnus actually managed to get the better of Shockwave, only for Predaking to arrive and take both Shockwave and the generator. Magnus informed the others that his team would be delayed, and in fact when they reached the bridge again, it had already been captured by Jack and Miko. With the warship until their control, the Autobots flew it to Cybertron and used the Omega Lock to restore their home world. Following Trypticon's crash-landing and subsequent rampage on Cybertron, Ultra Magnus took part in the Autobot counter-attack on the beast. At one point, he was pinned down by enemy fire, and asked Jetfire and Ironhide for assistance.

Somehow Ultra Magnus got corrupted by [[Dark Energon]] and left in the sewers, likely by the Decepticons [[Swoop (WFC)|who are known to do that sort of thing]]. There he ran around randomly breaking things until the Autobots, unaware of his presence, placed a bomb in the sewers, intending to prevent them from falling under Decepticon control. When the Autobots detected a strange signal coming from the collapsing sewers, they sent in a small team to investigate. The team was confronted with the sight of Magnus crashing through a wall, and realized he'd been corrupted. With time short, the Autobots fought Ultra Magnus until the Dark Energon was purged from his system and he regained his senses. Upon their return, Wheeljack tried lobbing his old lobbing ball at Bulkhead, but when the Wrecker failed to catch it, it almost crushed Miko. Ultra Magnus then angrily vilified Wheeljack, causing the Wrecker to storm off. Magnus was later instructed by Optimus Prime to lead Bulkhead and Wheeljack in a response team to a Decepticon sighting in [[Scotland]]. He took the [[Forge of Solus Prime]] with him, hoping to put it to some practical use. {{storylink|Project Predacon}} He remained unimpressed with Wheeljack's failure to follow orders, and even more so when it turned out the Wrecker had brought Miko along. Ultra Magnus continued to find himself having trouble fitting in with Team Prime, even being ditched when Optimus Prime would return to base. Optimus was talking to Magnus about his commanding issues when they detected raw energon being moved. Magnus joined the others in capturing it then exploring the mine with the Wreckers, and Smokescreen. He and Wheeljack explored one side of the mine and stumbled on [[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]]'s laboratory full of Predacon clones. After engaging Shockwave they destroyed it, only to encounter [[Predaking (Prime)|Predaking]], now able to transform into a robot, on their way out. Despite acquitting themselves well against the Predacon, the pair were soundly defeated, with the Predacon breaking the Forge and crushing Magnus's right hand. Only the intervention of Optimus saved them. With the technology available, Ratchet was only able to supply Magnus with a makeshift claw to replace his hand. To make things worse, Magnus was forced to stay at base, forbidden to go out into battle until he had recovered some dexterity in his new appendage. With some persuasion on Wheeljack's behalf, Magnus was allowed to go on a mission to the [[Solaris particle collider]] in [[Antarctica]]. He led the other Autobots into the base while Optimus faced Predaking outside, and the team ran into heavy Vehicon resistance. {{storylink|Minus One}} Magnus actually managed to get the better of Shockwave, only for Predaking to arrive and take both Shockwave and the generator. Though the probe was destroyed, Ratchet was able to send them the coordinates to the Decepticon warship, and Ultra Magnus ordered everyone to gear up before leading them through the GroundBridge to assault the ''Nemesis''. {{storylink|Synthesis}} The three Wreckers were ordered to take the bridge, however no sooner did they reach their target than Soundwave bridged them to another part of the ship. Magnus informed the others that his team would be delayed, and in fact when they reached the bridge again, it had already been captured by Jack and Miko. With the warship until their control, the Autobots flew it to Cybertron and used the Omega Lock to restore their home world. Instead he and Smokescreen ran into [[Darksteel (Prime)|Darksteel]] and [[Skylynx]], and despite Magnus's best attempts he was severely injured in the ensuing battle against Skylynx. Following Trypticon's crash-landing and subsequent rampage on Cybertron, Ultra Magnus took part in the Autobot counter-attack on the beast. At one point, he was pinned down by enemy fire, and asked Jetfire and Ironhide for assistance.

Somehow Ultra Magnus got corrupted by [[Dark Energon]] and left in the sewers, likely by the Decepticons [[Swoop (WFC)|who are known to do that sort of thing]]. There he ran around randomly breaking things until the Autobots, unaware of his presence, placed a bomb in the sewers, intending to prevent them from falling under Decepticon control. When the Autobots detected a strange signal coming from the collapsing sewers, they sent in a small team to investigate. The team was confronted with the sight of Magnus crashing through a wall, and realized he'd been corrupted. With time short, the Autobots fought Ultra Magnus until the Dark Energon was purged from his system and he regained his senses. [[William Fowler|Fowler]] arrives at the [[Autobot]]s' [[Hangar E|new base]] driving a massive military truck, described as an "experimental, all-terrain, expeditionary fighting vehicle". [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus]] gives his approval and begins to scan it.

The next day, [[Ultra Magnus (WFC)|Ultra Magnus]] and [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]] return from the rubble of the former Autobot base with what little they could find. Wheeljack is happy enough to find their [[Cybertronian_sport#Lobbing|lobbing]] ball, which he immediately throws to [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] to initiate a game. Unprepared, Bulkhead is unable to catch the ball and it bounces off of him, very nearly crushing [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]], who is pulled to safety by [[Jack Darby|Jack]]. Ultra Magnus admonishes Wheeljack's reckless behavior, once again citing his distaste for [[Wrecker]] behavior. He tells Wheeljack that if he'd rather not follow orders, he's free to walk away, as he did back on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Wheeljack remarks that if [[Jackhammer (Prime)|his ship]] wasn't destroyed, he'd do just that.

Meanwhile, Optimus flies with his new jet pack to investigate recent [[Decepticon]] activity. He comes upon a cave entrance in the side of a mountain and transforms into his new vehicle mode to enter.

Miko wishes all of the Autobots had jet packs, but [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] reminds everyone that the [[Forge of Solus Prime]] had been depleted of its power. [[Smokescreen (Prime)|Smokescreen]] returns from scanning new "war paint", but this fails to impress Ultra Magnus, who immediately assigns him a menial duty. Smokescreen grumbles about how he nearly became a [[Prime (rank)|Prime]], yet is still treated like a rookie, but pretends to have said something else when Ratchet overhears.

In the cave, Optimus comes across a group of [[Insecticon (Prime)|Insecticon]]s excavating some very large skeletal remains, and makes short work of most of them, but he is unable to prevent [[Bombshock (Prime)|Bombshock]] from escaping with a piece of the fossil.

Optimus returns the rest of the fossil to the base, and reveals that it's the remains of a [[Predacon (Prime)|Predacon]]. Smokescreen notes that Predacons are supposed to have been extinct since before most life began on Cybertron. The Autobots deduce that the recently-returned [[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]] is behind [[Predaking (Prime)|the one they already fought]], and most likely plans to clone more of them.

Aboard the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]'', [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] reacts to the presence of Predacon remains on Earth with cynicism. [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] explains that the remains actually belong to an army of clones that he had commissioned during the war. They were sent to Earth to kill Autobots and gather [[energon]], and they remained there until succumbing to the ravages of time. Shockwave confirms that he can create new clones from the endomatter of the deceased batch.

Ratchet shows the children images of Predacons from Cybertronian historical texts. Jack recognizes them as robotic versions of creatures from Earth's own various mythologies. Optimus notes that the Predacons were very likely the inspiration for such tales.

Ratchet revisits his [[Synthetic Energon|synthetic energon]] formula, in hopes of replenishing the energon stores lost when their base was destroyed. Fowler suddenly reports that satellites have picked up Decepticon activity in both [[Texas]] and [[Scotland]]. Optimus assigns Ultra Magnus, now wielding the depowered Forge, to lead the Wreckers to Scotland. Meanwhile he, [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]], and Smokescreen [[GroundBridge]] to a field of oil derricks in Texas and split up.

Alone together, Smokescreen asks Bumblebee if he'd ever wanted to be a Prime. Bumblebee says his only aspiration is to be a warrior. When Smokescreen asks why Optimus hasn't promoted him from scout yet, Bumblebee reveals that it's his choice. When Smokescreen asks him why he wants to wait, Bumblebee responds that he would rather be promoted on Cybertron. Smokescreen notes that this would be more meaningful, and that Bumblebee was one patient guy, musing that he ought to take a cue from him. They then interrupt a squad of [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicon]]s, only to be interrupted by Shockwave toting the remains of a Predacon. Shockwave flees from the Autobots but runs into Optimus, who blasts him out of vehicle mode. Just then, a GroundBridge opens and [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]] emerges in alt-form for some altitude-combat with a flying Optimus. Shockwave makes a run for the GroundBridge, but is attacked by Bumblebee and Smokescreen.

While Optimus fends off Soundwave, [[Laserbeak (WFC)|Laserbeak]] is deployed and gets in close, delivering an electrical shock that sends Optimus crashing to the ground. On the highway overpass above him, Bumblebee and Smokescreen are able to wrest the Predacon fossil away from Shockwave, but not without breaking it, sending a small piece falling over the edge. Optimus rushes back into the air to catch it, but Soundwave activates a second GroundBridge that catches the falling fossil in mid-air and deposits it into Megatron's waiting hand aboard the ''Nemesis''. Their mission complete, the Decepticons retreat through the GroundBridge from which Soundwave emerged.

On the ''Nemesis'', Megatron decides that Shockwave is much too valuable to Project Predacon to risk using in the field. Shockwave agrees to confine himself to his lab and leave the task of collecting bones to Starscream. Megatron notes how anxious he is to set his army of beasts on humankind.

* While not an outright error, it's worth noting that in this episode Bumblebee states to Smokescreen that it was his own choice to not yet graduate from scout to warrior, which contradicts with Prime's belief in "[[Masters & Students]]" that Bumblebee wasn't experienced enough in the field. Ultra Magnus is watching human soldiers run drills outside the base when Optimus Prime asks what's troubling him. Optimus reminds his old friend that they're not the [[Cybertron Elite Guard|Elite Guard]], and have in fact grown into something greater than an army. Before he can say what that is, Ratchet announces that their scanners have located exposed energon. Optimus declares that they must investigate, due to their own short supply.

A squadron of [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicon]]s are standing vigil outside an energon mine when Optimus and the [[Wrecker]]s appear and order them to surrender. The Vehicons open fire, but are quickly cut down by the Wreckers' forward advance and the Stealth Team ([[Arcee (WFC)|Arcee]], [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]], and [[Smokescreen (Prime)|Smokescreen]]) attacking from the rear. Optimus orders the Wreckers to reconnoiter the mine while the Stealth Team transports their energon spoils back to the base. Joined by an eager Smokescreen, the Wreckers investigate the supposed energon mine, growing suspicious about the lack of energon signals or additional security. Ultra Magnus orders them to split up, with he and Wheeljack going in one direction and Smokescreen and Bulkhead in the other.

Ultra Magnus and Wheeljack come across Shockwave's laboratory and the rows of cloning tanks. Shockwave is working at a computer console when he notices them, opening fire briefly before contacting Starscream. Starscream says he didn't reveal that his plan was already in motion, just so that Shockwave's surprised reaction would be genuine. Starscream terminates the link. Knock Out knows exactly why Starscream staged his plan this way, and received a less than subtle confirmation. Shockwave contacts Soundwave to open a [[GroundBridge]]. Before fleeing, Shockwave triggers an electrical surge that travels through the cloning tanks, causing the liquid which keeps the beasts in stasis to drain out.

On the ''Nemesis'', Starscream reports that the Autobots have taken possession of the Predacon clones. Megatron orders him to scramble his seeker armada, but Predaking says that he alone will confront the enemy that threatens his brethren.

Dozens of Predacons begin to stir as the stasis fluids drains from their tanks. Wheeljack notices a cache of synthetic energon in the corner of the room and, with Ultra Magnus' blessing, tosses a grenade at it. The Autobots transform and drive away at high speed, but come to a stop as Predaking, in robot mode, GroundBridges right in front of them much to their surprise. Ultra Magnus, seeing the symbol on Predaking's chest, identifies him. Just then, the laboratory behind them explodes in a massive fireball.

On the surface, Bulkhead and Smokescreen emerge from the mine just as the ground is shaken by the explosion. Optimus Prime stares at the mine with a grave expression.

Predaking, meanwhile, stares in horror at the charred remains of Shockwave's lab. With a roar, he attacks the two Autobots, his powerful blows sending them flying through the air. Wheeljack mounts a brief and successful counterattack, but Predaking quickly regains the upper hand, until Ultra Magnus lays into him with the [[Forge of Solus Prime]]. Magnus and his hammer buy Wheeljack time to recover, and the two Autobots launch a powerful combined attack that ends when they bring a colossal stalactite crashing down on the Predacon. But Predaking merely lifts the stalactite off him and uses it as a weapon to knock Ultra Magnus to the ground and crush Wheeljack against a wall. Magnus reaches for the Forge, but Predaking jumps up and lands on his hand, smashing it underfoot until the Autobot's fingers are nothing but ruined scrap flattened into the ground. Wheeljack laments that he was just starting to tolerate his commander, and Ultra Magnus responds by saying it was an honor to serve with him. Predaking snaps the Forge in half. He makes ready for the killing blow when Optimus Prime flies in and sends the Predacon sprawling. Optimus unleashes his gatling gun on the cave ceiling, raining rubble down on Predaking and allowing him to grab his wounded comrades. Optimus flies them out of the mine with Predaking in close pursuit, and is able to make it through a GroundBridge before a blast of flame makes contact. Predaking roars in rage.

The other Autobots are gathered around, with Wheeljack musing that Magnus fought like a Wrecker. Ultra Magnus asks Optimus what he was referring to earlier that could be greater than an army. Optimus says that it is a human concept called family.

[[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]] struggles to his feet after having been knocked out of the sky by [[Predaking (Prime)|Predaking]], who transforms to robot mode and lands nearby. The [[Predacon (Prime)|Predacon]] charges up his blaster, but Optimus rebounds with a flurry of punches.

Inside the Solaris building, a firefight between [[Autobot]]s and [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicon]]s is brought to a swift end by one of [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]]'s grenades. The Autobots make their way into the next room, where [[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]] is overseeing the theft of the particle collider, and begin fighting the [[Decepticon]] forces there.

Outside, Optimus continues to hammer away at Predaking, temporarily keeping him on the defensive, but the Predacon lashes out with a savage kick that sends Optimus sprawling. Predaking transforms back to beast mode and is about to unleash a blast of flame at the prone Autobot when [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] contacts him over the comm, ordering him to help secure the collider. Frustrated, Predaking fires his flame into the night sky.

Inside, the Autobots finish mopping up the Vehicons as [[Ultra Magnus (WFC)|Ultra Magnus]] beats Shockwave to his knees. He offers the Decepticon a chance to surrender before Predaking bursts in, makes short work of the Autobots, and flees with Shockwave and the collider. Outside, Optimus Prime rises shakily to his feet, just in time to see Predaking [[GroundBridge]] out.

[[Arcee (WFC)|Arcee]] radios [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] to return them to base. [[William Fowler|Fowler]], [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]], and [[Smokescreen (Prime)|Smokescreen]] are just coming to after being knocked out by [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]], and Bulkhead reports that Ratchet is gone.

Aboard the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]'', Megatron informs the captive Ratchet that he requires his assistance. Ratchet defiantly refuses to cooperate. Megatron says that cooperation isn't required, as Shockwave approaches the Autobot with a [[cortical psychic patch]].

At the Autobot base, Arcee examines the piece of [[Laserbeak (WFC)|Laserbeak]]'s wing that Smokescreen shot off while the young Autobot laments his poor aim. Ultra Magnus and Bulkhead confirm that Ratchet is nowhere on the premises, and that he didn't leave via the Autobot GroundBridge. Because there have been no ransom demands, Optimus reasons that Ratchet has something the Decepticons want.

Predaking learns that an Autobot is aboard the ship, and states that he's going to do to him what he failed to do to [[Prime (rank)|the Prime]]. Megatron explains that the captive is necessary for the restoration of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], but once that's no longer the case, he will be turned over to the Predacon.

While Fowler barks orders for increased surveillance and satellite monitoring into the phone, Wheeljack theorizes that the Decepticons took Ratchet for his [[Synthetic Energon|synthetic energon]] formula. Smokescreen asks why that would be necessary when the Decepticons already control most of the planet's [[Energon]]. Optimus remembers Ratchet's belief that Megatron is attempting to rebuild the [[Omega Lock]], and deduces that Synth En could be a necessary component. Fowler, now off the phone, relays his concern to the Autobots; if the Decepticons found Ratchet, it means they know the location of their base.

Shockwave reports that the psychic patch only confirms Ratchet has not yet stabilized the synthetic energon formula. Megatron tries a different tactic, waiting for Ratchet to revive and telling the Autobot directly that he wants to help him complete the formula. Ratchet rejects the idea outright, until Megatron reveals his intentions; that the Synth En, when combined with [[CNA]], forms the basis for an alternative [[Cyber Matter]] that can be used to restore Cybertron. Ratchet refuses to collaborate with Megatron, calling him a barbarian responsible for destroying Cybertron in the first place and crushing [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]]'s [[voice box]]. Megatron offers him a choice: the first option is to complete the formula. The second option is represented by an image of [[Jack Darby|Jack]], [[Raf Esquivel|Raf]], and [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]] displayed on [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]]'s visor. Ratchet tries to feign disinterest in the humans, but the image on Soundwave's visor changes to that of the Autobot base. Megatron tells Ratchet that if he agrees to cooperate, the humans and the Autobots will not be harmed. The Decepticons leave him to ponder the offer, and [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] asks if Megatron was being serious. Megatron says of course he wasn't, and tells Starscream to assemble his armada and destroy the Autobots' base once again.

At the base, Fowler and the Autobots are uneasy about the lack of Decepticon activity. Optimus notes that since the Cons aren't stealing Predacon bones or [[Earth]] technology anymore, there's no way to track them. Ultra Magnus suggests splitting into teams for some "old school" searching, but is interrupted by alarms signaling an incoming attack. As Starscream and a fleet of Vehicons emerge from the skies, soldiers rush to their jets to prepare a defense. Starscream commands his troops to concentrate their attack on [[Hangar E]] as the military jets open fire. Starscream evades the humans' artillery and lets loose a volley of missiles that hit Hangar E and reduce it to a fiery ruin. He reports to Megatron that the mission has been accomplished, and the Decepticons depart.

The Autobots watch as soldiers put out the flames amidst the rubble that used to be the mess hall, and Ultra Magnus muses that the Decepticons were fooled by a simple paint job. The actual Hangar E, now repainted to say F, is still in one piece.

Back on the ''Nemesis'', Megatron has Ratchet released to give him a tour of the ship. Ratchet's first instinct is to attack, but he finds himself reluctantly impressed by the Decepticon technology. Megatron uses the opportunity to convince him that Autobots and Decepticons share a common goal in the restoration of Cybertron. Ratchet says that bringing back Cybertron would not stop Megatron's ambitions, which the Decepticon leader doesn't deny, but at least they would have a world worth fighting over. Ratchet asks what assurance he would have that Megatron would leave Earth alone. Megatron simply replies that no assurance is being offered, confident that Ratchet's desire to restore Cybertron will overpower his reservations.

At their base, the Autobots have realized that the piece of Laserbeak which Smokescreen shot off is his transponder. Raf hooks it up to his laptop and says that it's trying to communicate with the Decepticon warship. Jack asks how Raf can understand [[Cybertronian language|Cybertronian code]], and Raf says that Ratchet used to teach him in his free time. Fowler asks if they can triangulate the signal, but Ultra Magnus reminds him it's going to a shielded ship. Arcee notes that if the transponder was still attached to Laserbeak, they could follow it. Wheeljack proposes giving it wings, and he and Raf start putting the idea into action.

Jack sees Fowler staring thoughtfully at the [[Apex Armor (Prime)|Apex Armor]] and asks if anything's wrong. Fowler admits he's been thinking of humanity's close calls at the hands of the Decepticons, and that technology like the armor could give their military agents a fighting chance even when the Autobots aren't around to protect them. He also suggests that Jack could be one of those agents himself someday, an idea he's apparently discussed with [[June Darby|Jack's mother]]. Jack isn't thrilled to hear they've been talking about him, but his protest is interrupted by the result of Raf's work: [[Chip (Prime)|Chip]], a small flying device built to house Laserbeak's transponder, which will lead them straight to the Decepticon warship.

Ratchet posits that even if the Omega Lock could be reconstructed, there's no way to scientifically replicate the device's mystical properties. Megatron says they won't know until they try, and shows Ratchet their progress: an almost-completed Omega Lock, attached to the underbelly of the ''Nemesis''. Realizing just how close they really are to being able to restore Cybertron, Ratchet agrees to complete the Synth En formula.

[[Team Prime]] gathers outside [[Hangar E|their base]] for the launch of [[Raf Esquivel|Raf's]] probe, [[Chip (Prime)|Chip]]. It will instinctively follow its signal to the [[Decepticon]] warship with [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]] following right behind, ready to relay the ship's coordinates to the other [[Autobot]]s. Optimus tells Raf that [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] would be proud of what he's done, and a moment later, both Chip and the Autobot leader take off into the night sky.

In [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out's]] laboratory, Ratchet and [[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]] discuss the issue at hand: once a stable form of [[Synthetic Energon|synthetic energon]] exists, it will be able to bond with [[CNA]] to create a stable form of [[Cyber Matter]]. Knock Out muses that this good fortune wouldn't have come about had the Decepticons not let the Autobots destroy the [[Predacon (Prime)|Predacon]] clones. Ratchet picks up on the use of the word "let", but Knock Out and Shockwave quickly change the subject.

Team Prime continues to monitor Optimus as he follows Chip. [[Jack Darby|Jack]] wonders what will happen when the Decepticons pick up [[Laserbeak (WFC)|Laserbeak's]] signal, and Raf says they're counting on Optimus making visual contact with the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]'' before that happens.

On the ship, Knock Out is bristling at being reduced to an assistant in his own lab. He fetches a CNA sample from a locked cabinet for Shockwave, not noticing when a second sample jar tips over and blocks the cabinet's sliding door from closing again. Ratchet does notice, and asks Knock Out to fetch another lab instrument to distract him while he yanks the sample jar free.

[[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] is watching a computer simulation of [[Earth]]'s [[Eco-structuring|cyberformation]] when [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]] alerts him that Laserbeak's signal has been detected outside the ship. [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] notes the impossibility of that, as Laserbeak is right there in front of them. Megatron recognizes it for an Autobot trick, the complexity of which suggesting that Starscream failed to destroy their base. Starscream hastily volunteers to troubleshoot the problem.

With the aid of the Decepticons' advanced technology, Ratchet is able to complete the Synth En formula. His elation disappears upon hearing Megatron's voice over the comm system, ordering Shockwave to assist in the final stages of the [[Omega Lock]]'s assembly. Ratchet realizes he can never allow Megatron to possess the formula, and deletes it from the computer before setting off an explosion in the corner of the lab and blaming it on the formula's instability. Knock Out calls in some [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicon]]s to help extinguish the blaze, and when the lab's doors open, Ratchet transforms and drives out.

Optimus Prime continues following Chip until Starscream appears, firing a missile at him. Optimus dodges and fires back with his gatling gun. A squadron of Vehicons join the aerial assault, but Optimus blasts through them with ease. Starscream realizes Laserbeak's frequency isn't emanating from Optimus and continues the search for its source.

Knock Out alerts Megatron to the prisoner's escape, while Ratchet dodges Vehicon fire throughout the halls of the ship. He doesn't get far before Megatron finds him, stopping the ambulance in its tracks by stomping on it. Ratchet warns Megatron that if he kills him, he'll never get the Synth En formula. Megatron assures him that his experts are untangling Ratchet's false trail of information and will soon find the answer themselves.

Starscream finally locates Chip, destroying the probe with a single missile. Optimus opens fire on him, but is unable to prevent the Decepticon from escaping through a mid-air [[GroundBridge]]. Optimus is left alone in the sky, with no trail to follow.

Knock Out retrieves Ratchet's stolen sample of CNA and Shockwave confirms the stability of the Synth En formula. With the aid of hyper-acceleration technology, it will not take long to begin production. Megatron fulfills his promise by having Ratchet taken to [[Predaking (Prime)|Predaking]]'s quarters. The self-proclaimed leader of the Predacons wastes no time attacking the helpless Autobot in the name of his slaughtered kin.

Shockwave begins the synthesis of the Cyber Matter, and Megatron orders the Omega Lock to be moved into ready position.

Just as Predaking is about to finish off his prey, Ratchet warns the Predacon not to let his vengeance end with him, but to continue avenging right up to Megatron. Predaking asks what he means, and Ratchet explains Megatron's role in the destruction of the Predacon clones. He challenges Predaking to analyze the situation; the enormity of the supposed coincidence that the Autobots somehow stumbled upon Shockwave's lab while looking for [[Energon]]. Predaking, starting to become convinced, asks why Megatron would wish to harm his kind. Ratchet says that Megatron fears him, and any like him. Enraged, Predaking storms into the halls, demolishing Vehicons along the way. One Vehicon is able to alert Megatron to the rampage before being terminated.

Ratchet makes his way to a communications array and contacts Optimus and Team Prime. Their joy is cut short when Ratchet reveals that Megatron has a working Omega Lock and is about the cyberform the planet. He deactivates the ship's shielding, allowing the Autobots to get a fix on his location, but is forced to leave the array by the sound of approaching gunfire. The Autobots gear up with the arsenal from [[Ultra Magnus's ship]], and Raf opens a GroundBridge to the ''Nemesis''. As they enter, Optimus Prime tells them that this may be their last battle. But for the sake of Ratchet, Earth, and [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], they must take the Decepticon warship.

Megatron, followed by Starscream and Knock Out, heads for the ship's vault, wondering aloud how the so-called Predacon king will fare against the [[Dark Star Saber]]. They're interrupted by Predaking, who tosses a deactivated Vehicon in their direction. Knock Out continues to the vault while Predaking asks if Megatron truly planned the destruction of his Predacon army. Megatron says he did, and his only mistake was not including Predaking in the destruction. He lands a few hits with his blade before Predaking overpowers him, clubbing him with the deactivated body of a Vehicon and knocking him down the length of the hall. Starscream distracts Predaking momentarily with a missile in the back, allowing Megatron to hurl the Predacon into the room behind them. Megatron hits a button on a computer panel inside the room, opening a door to the outside directly behind Predaking. He grips the sides of the door frame to fight against the sudden air pressure, but a blast from Megatron's cannon sends him tumbling out of the ship and into the clouds. Starscream closes the hull door and Knock Out arrives with the Dark Star Saber just as a Vehicon reports over the comm that the Autobots are attacking the ship. Megatron grabs the Dark Star Saber and tells the Decepticons to prepare to make their last stand.

==Synopsis==
[[Team Prime]] gathers outside [[Hangar E|their base]] for the launch of [[Raf Esquivel|Raf's]] probe, [[Chip (Prime)|Chip]]. It will instinctively follow its signal to the [[Decepticon]] warship with [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]] following right behind, ready to relay the ship's coordinates to the other [[Autobot]]s. Optimus tells Raf that [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] would be proud of what he's done, and a moment later, both Chip and the Autobot leader take off into the night sky.

In [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out's]] laboratory, Ratchet and [[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]] discuss the issue at hand: once a stable form of [[Synthetic Energon|synthetic energon]] exists, it will be able to bond with [[CNA]] to create a stable form of [[Cyber Matter]]. Knock Out muses that this good fortune wouldn't have come about had the Decepticons not let the Autobots destroy the [[Predacon (Prime)|Predacon]] clones. Ratchet picks up on the use of the word "let", but Knock Out and Shockwave quickly change the subject.

Team Prime continues to monitor Optimus as he follows Chip. [[Jack Darby|Jack]] wonders what will happen when the Decepticons pick up [[Laserbeak (WFC)|Laserbeak's]] signal, and Raf says they're counting on Optimus making visual contact with the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]'' before that happens.

On the ship, Knock Out is bristling at being reduced to an assistant in his own lab. He fetches a CNA sample from a locked cabinet for Shockwave, not noticing when a second sample jar tips over and blocks the cabinet's sliding door from closing again. Ratchet does notice, and asks Knock Out to fetch another lab instrument to distract him while he yanks the sample jar free.

[[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] is watching a computer simulation of [[Earth]]'s [[Eco-structuring|cyberformation]] when [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]] alerts him that Laserbeak's signal has been detected outside the ship. [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] notes the impossibility of that, as Laserbeak is right there in front of them. Megatron recognizes it for an Autobot trick, the complexity of which suggesting that Starscream failed to destroy their base. Starscream hastily volunteers to troubleshoot the problem.

With the aid of the Decepticons' advanced technology, Ratchet is able to complete the Synth En formula. His elation disappears upon hearing Megatron's voice over the comm system, ordering Shockwave to assist in the final stages of the [[Omega Lock]]'s assembly. Ratchet realizes he can never allow Megatron to possess the formula, and deletes it from the computer before setting off an explosion in the corner of the lab and blaming it on the formula's instability. Knock Out calls in some [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicon]]s to help extinguish the blaze, and when the lab's doors open, Ratchet transforms and drives out.

Optimus Prime continues following Chip until Starscream appears, firing a missile at him. Optimus dodges and fires back with his gatling gun. A squadron of Vehicons join the aerial assault, but Optimus blasts through them with ease. Starscream realizes Laserbeak's frequency isn't emanating from Optimus and continues the search for its source.

Knock Out alerts Megatron to the prisoner's escape, while Ratchet dodges Vehicon fire throughout the halls of the ship. He doesn't get far before Megatron finds him, stopping the ambulance in its tracks by stomping on it. Ratchet warns Megatron that if he kills him, he'll never get the Synth En formula. Megatron assures him that his experts are untangling Ratchet's false trail of information and will soon find the answer themselves.

Starscream finally locates Chip, destroying the probe with a single missile. Optimus opens fire on him, but is unable to prevent the Decepticon from escaping through a mid-air [[GroundBridge]]. Optimus is left alone in the sky, with no trail to follow.

Knock Out retrieves Ratchet's stolen sample of CNA and Shockwave confirms the stability of the Synth En formula. With the aid of hyper-acceleration technology, it will not take long to begin production. Megatron fulfills his promise by having Ratchet taken to [[Predaking (Prime)|Predaking]]'s quarters. The self-proclaimed leader of the Predacons wastes no time attacking the helpless Autobot in the name of his slaughtered kin.

Shockwave begins the synthesis of the Cyber Matter, and Megatron orders the Omega Lock to be moved into ready position.

Just as Predaking is about to finish off his prey, Ratchet warns the Predacon not to let his vengeance end with him, but to continue avenging right up to Megatron. Predaking asks what he means, and Ratchet explains Megatron's role in the destruction of the Predacon clones. He challenges Predaking to analyze the situation; the enormity of the supposed coincidence that the Autobots somehow stumbled upon Shockwave's lab while looking for [[Energon]]. Predaking, starting to become convinced, asks why Megatron would wish to harm his kind. Ratchet says that Megatron fears him, and any like him. Enraged, Predaking storms into the halls, demolishing Vehicons along the way. One Vehicon is able to alert Megatron to the rampage before being terminated.
