'''"Reconstruction"''' is a post-event branding used by [[IDW Publishing]]'s [[Hasbro Universe]] titles following the conclusion of the "[[Revolution]]" crossover, running through the issues scheduled for release from November [[2016]] to January [[2017]]. The branding encompasses the debuts of ''[[Optimus Prime (comic)|Optimus Prime]]'' and ''[[The Transformers: Lost Light|Lost Light]]'' — picking up from where their predecessor series ''[[The Transformers: Robots in Disguise|The Transformers]]'' and ''[[The Transformers: More than Meets the Eye|More than Meets the Eye]]'' left off — as they explore the new status quo in the wake of the crossover. "Reconstruction" also sees the debut of ''[[Revolutionaries]]'', as [[G.B. ==Overview==
Two hundred years ago,<ref>[https://www.cbr.com/exclusive-transformers-rom-crossover-new-character-hasbro/] In the announcement interview, co-writer [[Christos Gage]] identified the series as transpiring "not quite 200 years ago, but around 175, 180 years in the past", placing the timeframe circa [[1837]] to [[1842]]</ref> the [[Milky Way|galaxy]] is wracked by conflict: the [[Great War (G1)|Great War]] between the [[Autobot]]s and [[Decepticon]]s has spread beyond their ravaged homeworld of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] and threatens to infringe on the sovereignty of the robophobic [[Galactic Council]]. In a neighboring region of space, the silver [[Space Knight|Knight]]s of the [[Solstar Order]] continue to wage war on their hated foes, the villainous [[Dire Wraith]]s.

These two worlds collide when a Galactic Council warship shoots down a lost [[Caminus (planet)|Camien]] vessel in the [[Gray Area]] that straddles the two empires. Drawn to the confrontation Space Knight [[Rom]] discovers and rescues an orphaned [[protoform]] from the crash site; nurtured via an artificial [[energon synthesizer]] and raised as a citizen of the Order, the protoform grows into a young Transformer named [[Stardrive]] who eventually joins the Space Knights. In her new role as an interstellar peacekeeper, Stardrive faces discrimination and prejudice from the organic citizens of the Order, who have been taught to view Cybertronians as emotionless killing machines.

When Rom and [[Livia]] bring Stardrive along to an orbital diplomatic summit with the Galactic Council, the meeting swiftly goes wrong when the Galactic Council delegates reveal themselves as Dire Wraith imposters; vanguards of a Dire Wraith-Decepticon alliance headed by the [[Decepticon]] officer [[Starscream (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Starscream]] and Wraith leader [[Vekktral]], an alliance of convenience formed to steal Stardrive's unique energon synthesizer. Hope arrives in the form of the Autobots [[Ultra Magnus (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Ultra Magnus]], [[Bumblebee (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Bumblebee]], and [[Sky Blast (G1)|Sky Blast]], who join the fight. In the chaos, Sky Blast is forcibly assimilated by one of the Wraiths and mutated into a horrific fusion, forcing Ultra Magnus to crash the [[Orchid Crossing|space station]] onto the frozen wasteland of [[Xetaxxis]].

Realizing that they have a common cause, the Autobots and Space Knights agree to a temporary alliance to travel to the wreckage of the station and safely recover the energon synthesizer before the Decepticons can get their hands on it. The airborne Decepticons beat them to the punch and spring a trap for Magnus, Bumblebee, and [[Sata]]. Horrified by Livia's increasing ruthlessness, Stardrive nearly comes to blows with her superiors before Sata and Bumblebee arrive... only for Ultra Magnus, having succumbed to the same Wraith mutation that claimed Sky Blast's life, to arrive and, under the control of Vekktral, betray his Decepticon allies, preparing to assimilate them to accelerate the evolution of the Dire Wraith race. The Decepticons join forces with the Autobots to fend off the menace as Ultra Magnus sacrifices himself to kill Vekktral; in the chaos, Starscream escapes and in a final act of sabotage sets the energon synthesizer to detonate, which will wipe out half of the planet.

Bumblebee and the Knights escape to orbit as the resulting explosion sterilizes the planet, wiping out the Wraith infection and thousands of innocent [[Xetaxxan|Xetaxxian]]s. The ruthless Livia is pleased with this outcome, but Stardrive is unable to cope with the Order's prejudice and hypocrisy, voluntarily shedding her armor and renouncing her Solstar allegiance. As the surviving participants in the adventure go their separate ways, Stardrive takes up residence on an idyllic, uninhabited world... unaware that a trace of the Dire Wraith infection lingers in her systems.
==Notes==
*Over a year before the series was released, [[John Barber]] teased the premise in a Reddit Q&A.<ref>https://www.reddit.com/r/comics/comments/540ch7/we_are_john_barber_cullen_bunn_fico_ossio_chris/ Reddit Q&A, 22 September 2016<br> "Are the repercussions of Revolution also gonna affect TF:Lost Light, or are they so far away in the galaxy that it will be business as usual for them?" <br> [[Chris Ryall]]: "They'll affect things... in their own way. Certainly James is still free to tell very James Roberts-style stories, so you can be sure that any impact will be done in a way that fits with the kinds of stories he's been telling in his series." <br> [[John Barber]]: "They're in a galaxy inhabited by the Galactic Council and the Black Block Consortia and also the Space Knights and the Dire Wraiths and...well, more." <br> "Is the Galactic Council aware or familiar with the Space Knights and the Dire Wraiths?" <br> John Barber: "Yes."</ref>
==Notes==
*The series was originally solicited as ''ROM: The Space Knight'', but for reasons likely involving [[Marvel Comics]], the subtitle was dropped upon release.
*Yes, the series title is spelled in all caps. It's more dramatic that way.
*To promote the launch of the series, IDW released [http://www.idwpublishing.com/rom-covers-month-july/ a series of Rom-themed crossover covers] in July 2016.
'''''Action Man''''' was a [[2016]] comic miniseries published by [[IDW Publishing]], based on the [[Action Man]] toy, the [[United Kingdom]]'s equivalent of the original [[G.I. Joe (franchise)|G.I. Joe]] action figure. Written by [[John Barber]] and drawn by [[Paolo Villanelli]], it centers on the eponymous [[Ian Noble|Action Man]], a young man named Ian Noble who's been thrust into the role of Britain's top secret agent after the death of [[Mike Brogan|his predecessor]].

The series takes place immediately before the ''[[Revolution]]'' event in which it takes part. The series was planned as a four-issue miniseries, along with a [[The Modern World|''Revolution'']] tie-in. But fret not! Action Man's adventures continue, along with several ''Transformers'' characters, in ''[[Revolutionaries (comic)|Revolutionaries]]''.
'''Action Man breaks into G.I. Joe headquarters to rescue Kup.'''

==Synopsis==
Tensions run high at [[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]] headquarters on [[Governor's Island]]. Most of the team is off-site, engaging the forces of the [[Dire Wraith]]s at the captured [[Marshall Islands|Bikini Atoll]] facility; of those that remain, [[Spike Witwicky (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Spike]] and [[Zilong Qian|Talon]] are relegated to guard duty (which Spike endlessly grumbles his way through), while [[Miles Mayhem]] and [[Matt Trakker]] continue to argue over whether or not Transformers are living beings. Little are any of them aware that the recent flurry of alien activity has caught the attention of the [[Action Man Programme]] in the [[United Kingdom]], whose operatives are now doing some investigation of their own. Agent [[Terrence Salmons]] recovers security footage of [[M.A.S.K.]]'s capture of [[Kup (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Kup]] from [[Athens]] while [[Bryce Chan]] monitors the Joes' movements. With all evidence painting the clear picture that Joes have been recently compromised by the Wraiths and are currently holding Kup prisoner illegally, Director [[Pauline Bestley]] orders Ian Noble, the [[Action Man]] himself, into the field.

Action Man contacts his friend in the Joe ranks, [[Mainframe (G.I. Joe)|Mainframe]], via text, alerting him to what is about to happen, then takes action in the most direct way possible, crashing his [[Orca Sea Jet]] jet ski loaded with explosives into the walls of Governor's Island. The few remaining Joes and the forces of M.A.S.K. scramble to defend the facility, but Miles Mayhem holds [[Sly Rax]] and [[Vanessa Warfield]] back, instructing them to guard the vault where, unbeknownst to the Joes, Kup is being held. Action Man soon runs into the two black-hearted M.A.S.K. agents as he fends off Joe fire and melts his way inside the facility with acid; he manages to fight his way past Rax and Warfield and into the chamber containing Kup, melting the door shut behind him. Fed up with everything he's been put through, Kup has little to say to the young human, until Ian starts deactivating his restraints. As Mainframe and [[Agent Helix]] come running, Rax and Warfield continue to try to keep Kup's captivity a secret... which soon becomes impossible when he and Action Man smash their way out of the room. Mainframe immediately realizes the secret that M.A.S.K. has been keeping from the Joes and turns on Rax, but Mayhem is uninterested in helping his subordinates, and instead engages Kup in his [[Switchblade (M.A.S.K.)|Switchblade]] heli-jet. Recognizing Kup, [[Ayana Jones|Mayday]] tries to talk to him and figure out what is going on; there's no time for a full conversation, but the few words they share makes it clear to Jones that Kup is escaping capture, not launching an attack. This information, along with Matt Trakker's doubts, compounds Mainframe's own concerns, and when Action Man sends him another text pleading for assistance, Mainframe relents and calls in an airstrike from Beijing's orbital laser satellite. The lower-power beams the satellite rains down on the island send the Joes scattering, but provide Kup and Action Man with the distraction needed to leap into the bay and escape.

Mayhem accuses Mainframe of allowing them to get away, but Mainframe and Agent Helix lie right to Mayhem's face and claim they were firing on low power because they were trying to bring Kup in alive. The Joes are left shaken, aware now of the lies and secrets that fester among their ranks, while Mayhem begins to realize that he can keep his plots and plans secret no longer, and he orders Rax and Warfield to prepare to depart. Bestley, Chan, and Salmons, meanwhile, cannot make contact with Action Man... because he's safe inside Kup, driving along the bottom of the ocean, heading to join the bigger fight against the Wraiths.
==Notes==
===Continuity notes===
*This issue takes place between [[O Ship of State|''Revolution'' #3]] and [[The New Colossus|#4]], occurring roughly concurrently with the ''[[D.T.A.|G.I. Joe: Revolution]]'' one-shot and in the evening of the same day as the [[Thundercracker & Buster Save the World|''The Transformers: Revolution'' one-shot]], with reference made to the Joes' attack on the Bikini Atoll facility from the former, and "everything at the White House" from the latter. Unfortunately, due to delays, the ''Joe'' one-shot hadn't actually been released at the time this issue was published.
*Director Bestley notes that the U.S. is "one of two" nations with alien technology; the other is China, with their [[People's Liberation Army Mecha Force]], as established in [[All Hail Optimus Part 1: Once Upon a Time on Earth|''The Transformers'' #50]]. The Chinese laser satellite array was introduced in the same issue.
*M.A.S.K. captured Kup in [[The Divine Source of Liberty|''Revolution'' #2]]. It is security footage of this battle that Salmons recovers, including the beginnings of Trakker and Mayhem's argument, which we did not see in that issue.
*[[All Hail Optimus Part 2: Edge of the Earth|''The Transformers'' vol. 2 #51]] had Spike's [[Mrs. Witwicky|mother]] refer to him as "Stevie". A caption in this issue unsurprisingly reveals his full first name to be "Steven".
*Action Man and Mainframe's friendship was established in the prose backmatter of [[Concorde Hymn|''Revolution'' #1]].
*You might have noticed that [[Heavy Duty]] looks almost exactly like [[Roadblock (G.I. Joe)|Roadblock]], right down to a uniform based on that character's second '80s toy. This is because IDW Heavy Duty originally ''was'' Roadblock, with a replacement name for [[trademark]] reasons, before later being retconned into the separate character who traditionally uses the name "Heavy Duty".
*Miles Mayhem refers to his past relationship with Matt Trakker's father, which was mentioned in Matt's profile in [[O Ship of State|''Revolution'' #3]]. He points out that Matt's father "trusted him", which is another colossal flashing neon warning sign that Mayhem totally killed him.
*Mayhem notes that he has two Cybertronians in custody; the second, who does not appear in this issue, is [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]], as seen in several ''Revolution'' issues.
*Sly Rax suspects "the shape-shifters" are attacking Governor's Island, referring to Miles Mayhem's allies the Dire Wraiths.
*Ian uses the wrist-mounted shield generator he pinched from [[Doctor X]] in [[Mr Love and Justice|''Action Man'' #4]].
*Action Man notes that it's been a month since the end of [[Action Man (comic)|his own four-issue series]], making reference to when he discovered that his former partner Mercy Gale was really the supervillain Doctor X. In response, Kup starts to tell a similar story about a "young fella named Orion"; obviously he's talking about [[Optimus Prime (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Orion Pax, aka Optimus Prime]], and is presumably referring to the time Orion was betrayed by [[Megatron (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Megatron]], as seen in [[Overthrown|''Autocracy'' #8]].
*Kup recalls his previous capture by the [[Earth Defense Command]], which Jones points out she helped him escape, as seen in [[Conquerors Part 3: Helden|''The Transformers'' #48]].
*Action Man's "Orca Sea Jet" was an actual jetski toy from the 90s ''Action Man'' toyline.
*Sly Rax gives his mask the command "Stiletto: fire." Such voice commands were how the masks worked in the original ''M.A.S.K.'' animated series, and this is the first time they've been shown to work this way in IDW continuity.
*Vanessa Warfield's "Ice Queen" mask, though based on her classic "Whip" mask, is here revealed to have a new power to go with its new name: freezing blasts, as opposed to the classic "energy whips".
*It's fitting that Flash is the Joe who is able to recognize that the satellite laser beams are low-power simply by looking at them; he is the Joe's "laser rifle trooper", and knows what's what when it comes to a laser.
===Real-life references===
*The explosive Action man uses, {{w|octaazacubane}}, is indeed an allotrope of nitrogen with a fast detonation time, albeit only hypothetical in real life.
*Action Man hopes he and Kup can be "best friends, like in that movie." In keeping with his established fondness for referring to the films of his youth in the 90s, he's making reference to ''{{w|The Iron Giant}}''.

===Errors===
*On page 2, A.M.P. Director Bestley's first name is given as "Paulina", instead of "Pauline".
Joe'' vol. 3 #11}} has already established that for IDW continuity, Heavy Duty's real name is "Lamont Morris", which was the character's ''original'' real name for most of his history until it was changed for the film and cartoon. John Barber later explained that the name change was at the request of Hasbro.<ref>[https://twitter.com/TheJohnBarber/status/898757227997089792 Tweet by @TheJohnBarber, 2017/08/19]</ref>
==Premise==
"They made it past the initial nail-biting part of the journey, with a speedy liftoff from Merritt Island. They were thrown left and right against their straps in spasmodic little jerks as they rode into orbit and steered insanely fast into space. But that would not be the biggest challenge they would face. As they set foot on the moon, they found something inhuman waiting for them, ready to hitch a ride back to Earth! With Rom the Spaceknight seemingly nowhere in sight, only a handful of intrepid astronauts can prevent one giant leap for Dire Wraith-kind!"

==Creative team==
The series is written by returning ''[[ROM (comic)|ROM]]'' writer [[Chris Ryall]]. The main story, ''One Small Step for Dire Wraith-Kind'', is drawn by [[Luca Pizzari]] with colors by [[Jim Boswell]]. The backup story, ''One Small Step for a Spaceknight'', features pencils by [[Guy Dorian Sr.]], inks by [[Sal Buscema]], and colors by [[Ross Campbell]].

==Notes==
*The series was originally scheduled to debut in November 2019 but was delayed until January 2020.
*Upon announcement, it was unclear whether ''Dire Wraiths'' would be set in the [[Hasbro Universe]], which had officially ended with ''[[Transformers: Unicron]]'' back in 2018. Fan correspondence with Chris Ryall later confirmed the intention for the series to be part of the previous continuity, along with the series featuring previously-established characters and elements.
'''Rom faces a new enemy and learns the Wraiths are capable of far more than he ever thought.'''

==Synopsis==
After leaving [[Darby Mason]], [[Rom]] and [[Camilla Byers]] travel to [[Seattle]], [[Washington (state)|Washington]], only to be intercepted and attacked by a monster calling itself Axiom, from whom Camilla gets a strange feeling in her wound. Axiom attacks and Rom sets Camilla down on the [[Space Needle]] in order to engage the creature. Unsure if Axiom is a [[Dire Wraith]], Rom uses his [[Energy Analyzer]], which, despite Axiom's monstrous appearance, registers the creature as human. While Rom is hesitant to fight because it may be human, Axiom leaves him no choice, telling him to fight or die. The Space Knight tries to fight, but the creature is too fast for him, slicing through his armor. When Axiom reveals a Wraith palm spike, Rom is certain his adversary is a Dire Wraith. Axiom says that he is more than Wraith AND more than human.

''Six months earlier, [[Deepwave Technologies]] founders Aaron Grundy and [[Caleb Awan]], having recently sold their startup to the military, await their new owners. Aaron is worried about what will happen when the military sees that their Axiom tech suit's mental interface doesn’t work, but [[Joe Colton (Dire Wraith)|joe Colton]] then arrives, telling them he has the answer to their problems: [[Ore-13]]. After a week of development, the Axiom suit is perfected. Colton tests it by firing organic-looking weapons at Aaron while he’s in the Axiom suit. Aaron easily deflects them and takes away their guns. General Colton says that now that they've finished the suit, it's time to work on Aaron Aaron is tied up in "bio-webs" by Joe Colton, who reveals himself, his soldiers, and Caleb, to be Dire Wraiths. One of Colton's soldiers, [[Kohl]], transforms into her Dire Wraith form and begins to infect the Axiom-clad Aaron.''

Back in the fight, Rom is able to temporarily knock Axiom out. Rom refines his Analyzer and scans Axiom again, shocked by the results. He tries to offer Axiom his help, but Axiom shows no concern over his predicament, thanking the Dire Wraiths and taking off his helmet to reveal a monstrous visage. Before Rom can finish off Axiom with his Neutralizer, the Wraiths order Axiom to return to base, orders Camilla picks up. Rom expresses his fear at the idea that the Wraiths are able to meld magic and technology into such a weapon, mentioning that while his didn't detect any Wraith presence, it did detect the Ore-13 in Axiom's suit. Camilla tells Rom that she heard the Wraith mention Ore-13, also mentioning that Axiom was created by General Colton. Rom determines that he must find General Colton… [[Concorde Hymn|and put him down]].
'''A helpless Rom encounters the dangerous Sorcerer Wraiths as their plans become clearer.'''

==Synopsis==
At [[Vandenberg Air Force Base]], an excited [[Leonard Song]] is showing his colleagues footage of [[Rom|the silver alien]] who destroyed the town of [[Cooper's Mill]]. His friends are less than impressed believing the creature to be a sub-par CGI image and that Cooper's Mill was destroyed by a faulty gas main. [[Earth Defense Command|EDC]] agent [[Countdown|David Dubosky]] however is quite interested seizing Leonard's phone and dismissing his friends before leading the young doctor to a special room where Rom is being held.

Held within a [[Dimensional Binding Prism]], Rom is unable to properly interact with the world around him. As such he is forced to watch as doctors attend to [[Camilla Byers]] unsure of how many Wraiths are present and questioning their plan. Not far, [[Darby Mason]] is being praised for Rom's capture and is making ready to leave though she insists on confronting Rom. At a signal from Camilla, she fires her EMP gun at the Prism causing it to lose power. No sooner has Darby been seized by Dubonsky, does Rom break free. The stench of Wraiths is near-overpowering and despite its failures, Rom has no choice but to use his [[Energy Analyzer|Analyzer]] to see who's who.

Finding the room infested with Wraiths, Rom shouts a warning to any humans that might still be in the military and engages his foes in melee combat until his [[Neutralizer]] reboots. As the Space Knight tears through the Wraiths, one of them manages to knock out Darby for use as a hostage. At such a range, a Neutralizer blast would slay both Darby and the Wraith so Rom detaches his weapon and reconfigures it into a lance-like weapon which he lobs at the Wraith, killing it. Seeing an opportunity, a [[Wraith Soldier]] jumps at Rom who responds with his blade. Dubonsky goes to check on the progress of Camilla's Wraith conversion, speaking only to the growing Wraith, before "fleeing in terror" from the police officer.

As the few remaining humans prepare to flee, Darby remains behind to find Camilla. No sooner have the two reunited are they interrupted by the howls of the Wraith Soldier, Rom is torturing for information on the Wraiths' plans much to Darby's horror. Camilla confirms to Rom that the Soldier has told him all it knew and he grants it a swift death. Once outside, Darby announces her intent to leave something Rom sympathizes with and wishes her good fortune. Asking Camilla if she would like him to end her suffering, Camilla reveals she's staying with Rom as she heard the Wraiths thinking about something in [[Seattle]]. Saying a final goodbye to Darby, Rom says that although he often fights battles alone, he always has allies in war...

...a statement unknowingly true as in [[Pismo Beach]], a group teenagers are stargazing only to see two meteors crash land. Though briefly awed, the humans find nothing special and leave, missing the arrival of the Space Knights, [[Orphion]] and [[Livia]].
'''Rom gains a new ally in his war with the Wraiths as Darby faces enemies everywhere she turns.'''

==Synopsis==
[[Rom]] and [[Camilla Byers]] are held captive on a beach by the [[Dire Wraith]] sorcerer [[D'rge]]. D'rge taunts Rom, questioning why he is alone when [[Solstar Order|Space Knights]] normally travel in pairs. D'rge then begins to siphon energy from Rom’s armor. Camilla Byers snaps at the Wraith, telling him to leave Rom alone. D'rge feels Camilla’s rage echo in his mind and looks inside hers. He tells her that she will soon see things quite differently thanks to the Wraithmark on her face. Camilla tells the sorcerer that humanity will never let the Wraiths take their planet from them. D'rge tells her that they aren’t here to take Earth, but to save it. He shows her a vision of Dire Wraiths arriving on Earth in the 1800s, offering peace to humans. D'rge says that if they wanted to destroy Earth, they would have done so long ago. The Dire Wraiths are simply refugees, looking for a home. Camilla senses he is telling the truth, and D'rge offers to remove the “taint” from her. However, all the talk between Camilla and D'rge has given Rom the time he needed to channel his Neutralizer’s beam into his wrist Analyzers, destroying a Wraith soldier and freeing himself and Camilla. D'rge escapes as another Wraith soldier is easily executed by Rom. Rom uses his Analyzer to examine the Wraithmark on Camilla, and he informs her that it is spreading, slowly, and that he may be able to cure her of it. However, he cannot guarantee that it won’t kill her. He offers her a third option: use her psychic link to the Wraiths to sense their true forms.

Meanwhile, [[Darby Mason]] is being escorted out of [[Vandenberg Air Force Base]] by [[Countdown|Dave Dubosky]], [[Shen|Dr. Shen]], and her former [[Stamm|commanding officer]], having been retrieved from [[Blind-Eye Cave]] by the military and taken to Vandenberg. Darby tells them that the "alien killing machine" may have a person inside of it, but she withholds Rom's true nature and information about the Dire Wraiths, unsure who to trust. Dubosky gives her a GPS phone and a "neural disruptor" to defend herself if the "machine" comes back before sending her on a bus to visit extended family. However, after she boards the bus, she begins to imagine her fellow passengers are Dire Wraiths in disguise. She gets off the bus and waits by the coast to collect herself. An hour later, Darby notices Rom, carrying Camilla, flying by above the ocean, firing the neural disruptor in the air to get his attention. Rom recognizes it as a Wraith weapon, but is relieved to see Darby, telling her that he returned to the cave, but she had already gone. Camilla introduces herself and, using her psychic connection to the Wraiths, confirms to Darby that Dubosky is a Wraith. While Darby is initially hesitant to trust Camilla, she ultimately accepts her. Realizing that the military is filled with Wraiths, the three decide to find a way to get inside Vandenberg and find out if there are any humans left there. When Rom asks how, Darby pulls out the phone Dubosky gave her and says that he won't like her plan.

Having returned to his base at a lighthouse on the coast, D'rge reflects on his recent encounter with Rom, and the ever-changing nature of the war between Dire Wraiths and Space Knights. He walks down a stairwell to an underground chamber with an old man strung up. D'rge absorbs the man's appearance and returns to his home, where he psychically reports to a [[Absence|ghostly Dire Wraith]]. He confirms that this is indeed Rom, and that they were successful in blocking his Analyzers, but that he sensed the Space Knight has changed from his long crusade. D'rge insists Rom be taken out now, but the other Wraith reminds him of another opportunity: the {{t|Transformer|Cybertronian}}s. Soon, the moment to strike will be near.

Elsewhere, Darby has called Dubosky to pick up her and Camilla, who is ranting to the pair about shape-changing aliens infiltrating human society. As they arrive at Vandenberg, one of the guards asks to check their truck's cargo. While Dubosky tells him to simply "call the [[Joe Colton|General]]," Darby tells the guard exactly what's in the back: the alien that killed her parents – Rom has been captured and restrained in the back of the truck!
*Dubosky tells Darby that special armor is being developed to fight Rom, referring to the [[Axiom]] armor featured in the ''[[Field Test|ROM: Revolution]]'' one-shot, which chronologically take place after this story arc.
*This issue establishes that Darby's parents were infected by Wraiths during her deployment before her return in [[Earthfall: Part One|''ROM'' #1]].

*Darby figures that her parents were infected while she was stationed in the {{w|Green Zone}} during the United States' invasion of Iraq.

==Development==
''The Transformers'' was the first Hasbro property licensed by IDW in 2005, followed a few years later by ''G.I. Joe'' in 2008. The two franchises were never written with the intent that they occupied the same universe, and so they did their own thing for years, with the ''Transformers'' titles even massively devastating the entire [[Earth]] in the ''[[The Transformers: All Hail Megatron|All Hail Megatron]]'' storyline.

From mid-2015 onward, IDW began announcing new Hasbro licenses: ''[[Jem and the Holograms (comic)|Jem and the Holograms]]'' in March [[2015]], ''[[ROM (comic)|Rom]]'' and ''[[Micronauts (comic)|Micronauts]]'' in July 2015, ''[[Action Man (comic)|Action Man]]'' in October 2015, and finally ''[[M.A.S.K.: Mobile Armored Strike Kommand|M.A.S.K.]]'' in May [[2016]]. According to author [[John Barber]], the idea that all of these characters inhabited a single shared universe began with ''Rom'''s [[Chris Ryall]] and [[Christos Gage]] suggesting that [[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]] appear in ''Rom'', with ''Transformers'' author [[John Barber]] bringing up [[Andrew Griffith]]'s idea that IDW's G.I. Joe continuity could (with some squinting) be wedged between the major events of IDW's ''Transformers'' comics. In turn, this led to all of them suggesting to [[Cullen Bunn]] of ''Micronauts'' to alter an upcoming arc in the ''Micronauts'' series involving the Micronauts visiting [[Earth]], with Andrew Griffith establishing a timeline to make their already-established ''Transformers'' and ''G.I. Joe'' stories fit together.

In June 2016, ''[[Revolution]]'' was announced, a five-issue crossover that would unite ''Rom,'' ''M.A.S.K.'', ''Micronauts,'' and ''Action Man'' with ''G.I. Joe'' and ''Transformers''. The summer of 2016 saw the groundwork for ''Revolution'' laid in the first issues of ''Rom'' and ''Action Man'', which made reference to the events occurring in [[Monument Valley]] in concurrent issues of [[The Transformers: Robots in Disguise|''The Transformers'']]. G.I. Joe characters made appearances in the debut storyline of ''Rom'' and the ''[[Titans Return (comic)|Titans Return]]'' storyline in ''The Transformers'', while the [[Secret Raiders: A Revolution Prelude|''Revolution'' prelude issue]] established that no continuity was being discarded, as the existing IDW ''Transformers'' and ''G.I. Joe'' stories were handwaved into having happened in the same universe all along. ''Jem and the Holograms'' has been stated to have also been retroactively fused into the new universe, but characters from that title were not going to appear in ''Revolution'' for "reasons of tone" in comparison to the other titles; references to elements from it have been popping up (such as Ian Noble, the new Action Man, having a Misfits poster in his quarters). Likewise, the 2017 ''[[Clue]]'' miniseries has tenuous ties at best to the shared universe; while it doesn't explicitly contradict anything, it also doesn't have any hard connections either. IDW's ''[[My Little Pony]]'' comics exist outside the universe altogether, as do ''Dungeons & Dragons''.

''Revolution'' proceeded to bring the Transformers, G.I. Joe, Action Man, M.A.S.K., and the Micronauts together to foil a plan by the allied evil forces of [[Miles Mayhem]], [[Baron Karza]], and the [[Dire Wraith]]s to obtain Earth's [[Ore-13]] for their own nefarious ends. This was followed by ''[[Reconstruction]]'', a post-event branding used to identify the shared universe books as their stories continues on out of the events of the crossover. A notable feature of ''Reconstruction'' was the debut of the ''[[Revolutionaries]]'', which paired up [[Action Man]] with three supporting characters from ''The Transformers'' and a rotating "guest star" in each issue, featuring gratuitous references to long-forgotten Hasbro properties and spinoffs across a span of eight issues; notably, the series incorporated a version of the ''[[Hearts of Steel]]'' continuity into the mainstream IDW universe.

''Revolutionaries'' would lead into August 2017's crossover event in the pages of ''[[First Strike]]'', which sees [[Joe Colton]] and an [[Iron Ring|alliance of villains]] attacking Cybertron to prevent [[Earth]] from joining the [[Council of Worlds]], bringing heroes together once more to foil their plan. This, in turn, set up the debut of the next group of Hasbro characters to join the universe, the [[Visionaries]], which went on to clash with Cybertron in January 2018's ''[[Transformers vs. Visionaries]]'' miniseries.

Unfortunately, the Hasbro Universe titles never picked up much steam and were subject to cancellation. ''M.A.S.K.'' only lasted ten issues and ''Micronauts'' eleven, though the latter would spawn a sequel miniseries, ''[[Micronauts: Wrath of Karza]]'', in which the Transformers guest-starred. An attempt to combine titles to boost sales led to ''[[Scarlett's Strike Force]]'', in which [[Matt Trakker]] and his fellow M.A.S.K. members joined G.I. Joe, and ''[[Rom & the Micronauts]]'', where Rom joined the Micronauts for an adventure in Microspace. The latter ended up being a five-issue miniseries, while ''Scarlett's Strike Force'' was cancelled after issue three due to conflict between the author and IDW/Hasbro.

Due to a combination of factors, 2018 saw the decision to end the Hasbro Universe entirely, which included the two ''Transformers'' titles. The six-issue ''[[Transformers: Unicron]]'' capped off the universe with a colossal battle against the eponymous planet-eater; though both Cybertron and Rom's own homeworld of [[Elonia]] were annihilated by Unicron, the series ended with these alien immigrants settling into a peaceful new life on Earth. In each issue of the miniseries, short backup strips served as finales for the Hasbro Universe titles. After ''Unicron''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s conclusion, the entire Hasbro Universe, and by extension the [[2005 IDW continuity]] as a whole, wrapped up with the publication of ''[[Optimus Prime (comic)|Optimus Prime]]'' [[Post|#25]] in November 2018.

A [[Transformers (2019 comic)|new ''Transformers'' comic continuity]] debuted in early 2019, followed by a {{w|G.I. Joe (2019 comic book)|''G.I. Joe'' reboot}} in September, but as of writing there is no indication that IDW Publishing has any kind of Hasbro Universe revival in the works.

In March 2021, the ''M.A.S.K.'', ''Action Man'', ''Revolution'', ''Revolutionaries'', and ''First Strike'' comics all vanished off Comixology. This included the ''Transformers'' one-shots tying into these stories. This obviously leaves a hole in the ''Transformers'' runs from 2015-18!

==Hasbro Universe issues with ''Transformers'' content==
If a comic book features the Transformers in a significant capacity, it will typically receive its own article here on TFWiki. However, the nature of a shared universe is such that the Transformers can, will, and already have made small cameos in other titles that are otherwise not about them. This section of the article serves as a quick list of all such appearances, with links to all relevant articles either here or on the IDW Hasbro Wiki.

==Other Hasbro franchises==
Over its two-and-a-half year run, the Hasbro Universe featured many references to other Hasbro franchises and properties, including some decidedly esoteric concepts. In addition to ''Transformers,'' ''Micronauts,'' ''M.A.S.K.,'' ''G.I. Joe,'' ''Rom,'' and ''Visionaries,'' several other Hasbro concepts made cameo appearances. These references include:

* ''[[Action Force (comic)|Action Force]]'' — [[Quarrel]], the [[Red Shadows]], and [[Joe Colton|Baron Ironblood]] make appearances in ''[[Revolutionaries]]''. {{storylink|Revolutionaries}}
* ''[http://www.figurerealm.com/actionfigure?action=seriesitemlist&id=831 Air Raiders]'' — Bludgeon references the planet Airlandia, the home planet of the Air Raiders, as a candidate for galactic conquest. {{storylink|The Transformers: Salvation|Salvation}}
* ''{{w|Dungeons and Dragons}}'' — Several G.I. Joe members are shown playing the game. {{storylink|Scarlett's Strike Force issue 3|Scarlett's Strike Force #3}}
* ''[[Furby|Furbies]]'' — Hacked up by a ''Tyrannosaurus rex''. {{storylink|Scarlett's Strike Force issue 2|Scarlett's Strike Force #2}}
* ''[[Inhumanoids]]'' — The Inhumanoids ''would'' have starred in [[G.I. Joe vol. 5|''G.I. Joe'' vol. 5]], before Hasbro learned that they no longer held the rights to the franchise or the characters.<ref>Aubery Sitterson's Patreon</ref> As a result, the comic changed the antagonistic monsters to the {{i|Fatal Fluffies}}, although they remain gigantic subterranean monsters with supernatural powers. Years later, ''{{i|Rom: Dire Wraiths}}'' would introduce the heroic human cast of ''Inhumanoids'' into the universe, with several of them sporting new names thanks (presumably) to the aforementioned rights issues.
* ''[http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1907/international-movie-maker International Movie Maker]'' — [[J.J. Hackensack]] was first referenced in this board game, and several of [[Bulletman]]'s films and co-stars also reference it. {{storylink|Hasbro Heroes Sourcebook issue 1|Bulletman profile}}
* ''{{w|Mastermind_(board_game)|Mastermind}}'' — A popular television game show in the Hasbro Universe. [[Centurion (IDW)|Centurion]] is fond of it. {{storylink|When Eagles Scream}}
* ''{{w|Pound Puppies}}'' — In his youth, [[Atomic Man|Mike Power]] owned a dog named "[[Smarts]]," physically based on the character "Lucky" from the {{w|Pound Puppies (2010 TV series)|2010 cartoon adaptation}}. Backmatter in [[Ghost in the Machine (IDW)|''Revolutionaries'' #8]] would take the reference further, establishing that Smarts was, in fact, the ''ancestor'' of Lucky, and thus suggesting that the television show takes place in the Hasbro Universe. {{storylink|Power and Glory}}

Joe, and ''{{i|Rom & the Micronauts}}'', where Rom joined the Micronauts for an adventure in Microspace.

==Other Hasbro franchises==

* ''[[Action Force (comic)|Action Force]]'' — [[Quarrel]], the [[Red Shadows]], and [[Joe Colton|Baron Ironblood]] make appearances in ''[[Revolutionaries]]''. {{storylink|Revolutionaries}}
* ''[http://www.figurerealm.com/actionfigure?action=seriesitemlist&id=831 Air Raiders]'' — Bludgeon references the planet Airlandia, the home planet of the Air Raiders, as a candidate for galactic conquest. {{storylink|The Transformers: Salvation|Salvation}}
* ''[http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1907/international-movie-maker International Movie Maker]'' — [[J.J. Hackensack]] was first referenced in this board game, and several of [[Bulletman]]'s films and co-stars also reference it. {{storylink|Hasbro Heroes Sourcebook issue 1|Bulletman profile}}
* ''{{w|Mastermind_(board_game)|Mastermind}}'' — A popular television game show in the Hasbro Universe. [[Centurion (IDW)|Centurion]] is fond of it. {{storylink|When Eagles Scream}}
* ''{{w|Pound Puppies}}'' — In his youth, [[Atomic Man|Mike Power]] owned a dog named "[[Smarts]]," physically based on the character "Lucky" from the {{w|Pound Puppies (2010 TV series)|2010 cartoon adaptation}}. Backmatter in [[Ghost in the Machine (IDW)|''Revolutionaries'' #8]] would take the reference further, establishing that Smarts was, in fact, the ''ancestor'' of Lucky, and thus suggesting that the television show takes place in the Hasbro Universe. {{storylink|Power and Glory}}
'''The masked crusaders must face off against both V.E.N.O.M. and the law as they make their new start.'''

==Synopsis==
[[Matt Trakker]], acting commander of [[M.A.S.K.|Mobile Armored Strike Kommand]], reflects on recent events, and in particular his betrayal by [[Miles Mayhem]], the group's founder. With Mayhem's nefarious schemes revealed, the remaining members of M.A.S.K. must now scrape together intel from the villain's abandoned [[Mask]] in order to try and stop him.

For the time being, however, they have more immediate concerns: a series of attacks on military installations by advanced vehicles like M.A.S.K.'s has brought the police and federal agents to the doors of the [[Project Spectrum]] base. Under heavy fire, Trakker leads [[Gloria Baker]], [[Brad Turner]], and [[Julio Lopez]] in abandoning their former base, with [[Thunderhawk]]'s weaponry blowing open the deactivated hanger doors. With the authorities hot on their heels, the M.A.S.K. team drives into a mine tunnel known as the [[Dutchman's Doorway]], and Brad's "Eclipse" Mask casts a holographic illusion of a cave-in to cover their tracks.

Later, still underground, the team discuss their next moves in the [[Jackhammer]] vehicle's miniature HQ. There are concerns that the [[Ore-13]] batteries being used to charge the Masks could lead to unpredictable reactions, whilst Gloria's decryption of Mayhem's Mask cannot continue until they find a stable base. She has, however, uncovered video files labelled "[[Cornelius Trakker|C. Trakker]]". Unsurprisingly, the footage depicts Matt's father, Cornelius, at work on the early prototypes of the Masks. However, a group of masked soldiers enter and hold Cornelius at gunpoint... with Miles Mayhem at the lead!

Elsewhere, Mayhem is currently plotting his next moves in the plan to capture and reverse-engineer all the {{t|Transformer|Cybertronians}} on [[Earth]], and profit massively from the results. He dispatches his [[V.E.N.O.M.|own team]] to intercept M.A.S.K., before boarding the [[Switchblade]] to head off on business of his own.

Under cover of both darkness and "Eclipse"'s powers, the M.A.S.K. team travel to one of Cornelius Trakker's hidden laboratories, its location in the [[Everglades]] decrypted from Mayhem's Mask. Gloria hacks their way inside, and whilst the facility has been long-abandoned, it will serve perfectly as a short-term base for the team. On a computer terminal, Trakker stumbles across his father's journal entry from the day of Matt's tenth birthday, not long before Cornelius's murder. Thinking back, Matt explains to Gloria how he began acting out in the aftermath of his father's death, first being sent to a school for "gifted delinquents" before running away to fight injustice around the world with his gift for engineering. He is interrupted when Julio brings news of a massive Ore-13 energy spike in [[Barbados]]...

Despite concerns they are heading into a trap, Brad uses his drug trafficking contacts to arrange transport for the team and their vehicles, and a few days later, they set out to gather intel in [[Bridgetown]]. Gloria quickly schmoozes useful information out of a local: [[Harrison's Cave]], a tourist trap cavern, has recently been sealed to all visitors. That evening, M.A.S.K. moves in, and detect huge Ore-13 deposits in the cavern. Before they can investigate further, they come under fire from the Switchblade. Julio is badly wounded, and all four team members pile into the Thunderhawk and retreat underground.

In the caverns, the team finds no Ore-13, and quickly realize that Mayhem has been able to access their Masks and falsify their readings. Before they can go any further, Brad is suddenly hit in the shoulders with a pair of energy spikes, fired from a Mask! Stepping from the shadows, Miles Mayhem unveils to M.A.S.K. his new V.E.N.O.M. team. But this introduction is also to be a goodbye, and all three recruits fire upon M.A.S.K.!

==Notes==
===Continuity notes===
*The montage on the first page includes [[Kup (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Kup]], who M.A.S.K. were responsible for capturing during the events of ''[[Revolution]]''.
*Miles Mayhem's nefarious plans were revealed in ''Revolution''. The recovery of his Mask from the battlefield was not something seen in that series – it was last seen on Miles' head as he rammed [[Baron Karza]] with the Switchblade.
*Matt's backstory was previously described in his bio in [[O Ship of State|''Revolution'' #3]].
*This is the first appearance of Bruno's "Thunderflame" Mask.

===M.A.S.K. references===
*Gloria Baker is originally from [[Mumbai]]. This might be a nod to the franchise's previous character of Indian heritage, "Ali Bombay", with {{w|Mumbai}} being the modern name for Bombay.

===Real-life references===
*The hologram of rocks blocking the tunnel entrance is titled "Roadrunner/Coyote", referencing {{w|Wile E. Coyote and The Road Runner|the Road Runner and Wile E. Coyote from ''Looney Tunes''}}.
*Julio repeatedly quotes Admiral Ackbar's infamous "It's a trap!" line from ''{{w|Return of the Jedi}}''.
*Gloria jokes about Matt being a "{{w|social justice warrior}}".

===Errors===
*The mask belonging to Mayhem shown to have been found on the battlefield is his classic "Viper" mask—but Mayhem has never been shown to wear this mask, having spent the entirety of ''Revolution'' with the same modern mask-design he has on this issue's final page.
*The M.A.S.K. team does not recognize the Switchblade, despite Mayhem piloting it during ''Revolution''.

===Wait, what?===
*Despite Mayhem claiming that with M.A.S.K. on the run from the law he can focus on his true goal of hunting down Cybertronians, he immediately orders his team to intercept and take out M.A.S.K.
* Why would you include a "doing the voice" joke in an entirely visual medium?

===Notes===
*Having been miscolored orange in ''[[M.A.S.K.: Revolution]]'', the [[Shark]] is now colored blue rather than the classic white and yellow used in ''Revolution'' itself; this will, for whatever reason, stick in all future appearances outside of the [[The Deathstone|2017 ''M.A.S.K.'' annual]].
*Though he doesn't appear in the issue proper, [[Dr. Mindbender]] appears on the character list under the name "Verstal Bender", retaining the new name he had in ''M.A.S.K.: Revolution'' rather than his previous real name in IDW's comics, Armand Singh (which internal narration in the previous issue used to refer to him in a caption). The [[Hasbro Heroes Sourcebook]] would eventually explain "Verstal Bender" to be a pseudonym.

===Other notes===
*Backmatter for the issue consists of Part 1 of 5 of an interview with ''{{w|M.A.S.K. (TV series)|M.A.S.K.}}'' voice actor {{w|Doug Stone (voice actor)|Doug Stone}}, conducted by cover artist [[Tommy Lee Edwards]], and a fan showcase page of art, cosplay, and memorabilia.
'''The masked crusaders must face off against both V.E.N.O.M. and the law as they make their new start.'''

==Synopsis==

==Notes==
===Continuity notes===
*The montage on the first page includes [[Kup (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity family|Kup]], who M.A.S.K. were responsible for capturing during the events of ''[[Revolution]]''.

===M.A.S.K. references===
*Gloria Baker is originally from [[Mumbai]]. This might be a nod to the franchise's previous character of Indian heritage, "Ali Bombay", with {{w|Mumbai}} being the modern name for Bombay.

===Real-life references===

===Errors===

===Wait, what?===
*Despite Mayhem claiming that with M.A.S.K. on the run from the law he can focus on his true goal of hunting down Cybertronians, he immediately orders his team to intercept and take out M.A.S.K.
* Why would you include a "doing the voice" joke in an entirely visual medium?

===Notes===

===Other notes===
===Notes===

===Other notes===
*Backmatter for the issue consists of Part 1 of 5 of an interview with ''{{w|M.A.S.K. ==Premise==

==Notes==
'''As Rom begins his hunt for the Dire Wraiths on Earth, he finds that danger lurks everywhere on this new world.'''

==Synopsis==
After rescuing her from her [[Dire Wraith]]-infected family, [[Rom]] takes [[Darby Mason]] back to her home in [[Cooper's Mill]]. Darby begins to break down, wondering how much of her life was actually real. Rom comforts her, saying that while the Wraiths may have taken her family, they can never take away the love she felt for them. After calming down, Darby tries to put Rom in touch with her commanding officer, but Rom destroys her computer, warning that he may already be a Wraith. Darby asks Rom if her "father" was trying to replace her as well; Rom confirms that he tried, but was unable to, which Rom finds curious. As the two discuss what to do next, Wraith tendrils spring from Darby's computer to attack them, while outside the house is surrounded by Wraiths. Rom flies them out, converting his [[Neutralizer]] to its ultimate form in order to destroy the entire town, save for Darby's house. Darby looks on in horror, though Rom tells her it is necessary to stopping the spread of the plague that are the Dire Wraiths.

The two fly off, with Rom needing somewhere to recharge after using so much of his Neutralizer's power. As they fly, Rom tells her that they will need other members of Earth's military to aid them in their fight... only for Darby to inform him that there is no central authority for the planet, something that surprises the Space Knight. Darby takes him to [[Blind-Eye Cave]], a secret hangout spot she and her friends had as kids. As Rom sits to relax, he expresses that when he is tired is when he feels the most human, prompting Darby to asks if he actually is a human. Rom says that, by all standards, he was.

''Rom was born on the planet [[Elonia]], a peaceful, paradise of a world... until the Dire Wraiths invaded. To combat them, Rom joined a peacekeeping force called the [[Solstar Order]], becoming one of their elite Space Knights to protect his world and others. However, the Dire Wraiths were still able to infiltrate and destroy Elonia; the Space Knights ultimately triumphed, but at great cost. The Solstar Order have been hunting the Wraiths throughout space for the past 200 years.''

Rom notes, however, that the Wraiths tactics on Earth are different than their past invasions. Before he can speculate further, he senses an inhuman presence nearby, leaving Darby in the cave to go investigate.

Elsewhere, [[Scarlett]] argues with General [[Joe Colton]] about his orders to go to [[Utah]] instead of pursuing the alien exo-suited killer in Cooper's Mill. Colton insists that it is a local problem, and they need to focus their attention on a situation with global ramifications. When Scarlett says they can't just ignore the exo-suit, Colton says that they're not. He's already sent an "elite unit" to Cooper's Mill, where said finds the lone Darby Mason in Blind-Eye Cave.

Meanwhile, [[Camilla Byers]] is being pursued by a group of "Wraith Stalkers", hearing their thoughts in her head as they chase her. Before they can attack, Camilla is saved by Rom, who makes quick work of the creatures with his Neutralizer. Rom introduces himself to Camilla before spotting the Wraith-mark on her. Rom raises his Neutralizer against her, apologizing for hero infection. However, before he can fire, he is interrupted by a group of soldiers, whom his Analyzer identifies as human. The soldiers fire on Rom and Camilla wonders what kind of killer robot he is. Rom clarifies that he isn't a robot, and that he does not kill humans. Camilla is confused as to why Rom can't see what she can: there's nothing human about them! The Wraiths emerge, with a [[D'rge|Wraith Sorcerer]] binding Rom with magic as he taunts the Space Knight. Realizing his [[Energy Analyzer|Analyzer]] failed him, Rom worries that if he falls now, Earth will follow.
==Quotes==
"I know they're monsters, but this... It's horrible."

"Yes. And necessary. The Wraiths have '''chosen''' to embrace the dark arts. They have sacrificed all you would consider humanity for power. Think not of them as sentient beings. They are a '''plague''', to be eradicated."
:—While '''Darby Mason''' watches a Wraith horde burn, '''Rom''' justifies his extreme methods.

"What kind of a killer alien robot are you, anyway?"

"I am... neither robot... nor killer... of any human."

"Human? If I can see it, why can't you? There's nothing human about those guys!"
*Rom's memories show several of his fellow Space Knights, most of whom would be named in the [[Cold Fire|2017 ''ROM'' Annual]].
*While the last issue ended with G.I. Joe arriving to deal with Rom, this issue sees Joe Colton ordering Scarlett to deal with a more pressing situation in Utah, leading into their appearance in [[White Light|''The Transformers'' #56]].
'''The silver Space Knight arrives!'''

==Synopsis==
In Northern [[California]], police officer [[Camilla Byers]] and her partner [[Omar Ruiz]] respond to reports of a fire in the forest. The pair are passed by an armored transport en route, and when they arrive on the scene, they are met by a group of [[United States]] soldiers, and are told to stay back—they aren't alone.

[[Rom|An alien in silver armor]] emerges from a smoking crater and greets the humans, telling him that he means them no harm... provided they are native to [[Earth]]. As the alien's armor begins to energize and transform, one soldier opens fire, knocking back, but it manages to quickly recover. It fires a broad beam of red light at the soldiers, even as two of their guns take on an organic appearance. Omar asks the soldier with him and Camilla who the silver alien is, as is told that it is <big>'''Rom.'''</big>

The red light cast by Rom is his [[Energy Analyzer]], and it reveals two of the three soldiers confronting him for what they really are: [[Dire Wraith]]s! They open fire on the Space Knight, prompting him to transform his armor again and fire back with his [[Neutralizer]]. Unaware they were aliens in disguise, Omar and Camilla are shocked to see Rom disintegrate two soldiers, whilst two spikes emerge from the palms of the soldier next to them. Stabbing at them both, it kills Omar and wounds Camilla, and their blood allows the alien soldier to transform into a [[Wraith Hawk]]. Taunting Camilla that there is no hiding now she bears the [[Wraithmark]], it flies at Rom, who sends the lone human soldier to take cover before the Wraith Hawk drags him into the air. The Space Knight realizes that the Wraiths must have deeply infected Earth to have found him so quickly, and his enemy insists the Fire Wraiths' final victory is imminent. Rom responds simply by firing his Neutralizer through the Wraith.

Shocked that Earth is being invaded by aliens, Camilla and the human soldier stand awestruck. Rom corrects that they were invaded long ago—their world is at war with the Dire Wraiths. But now Rom the Space Knight is here, to make their war his own!
'''Rom hunts the Dire Wraiths... and discovers things even he's never seen before.'''

==Synopsis==
At [[Vandenberg Air Force Base]], a [[United States Army]] soldier is being questioned by agents from the [[Earth Defense Command]], [[Ken Francis]], [[Bryce Kukuk]], and [[Countdown|Dave Dubosky]], about [[Earthfall: Prelude|his encounter]] with the extraterrestrial known as [[Rom|Rom the Space Knight]]. However, after telling his story, the EDC officers reveal themselves to be [[Dire Wraith]]s and infect the soldier.

In the small town of [[Cooper's Mill]], [[Darby Mason]] walks through Mantlo Park with her family. Darby is on leave from the military and her family brought her to the park to try to help her through her PTSD. When her father touches her head, Darby gets a strange feeling. She begins to freak out, pushing her parents away. When she starts to calm down, however, a red light shines from the woods. Rom emerges, telling Darby to back away. Her family are all Dire Wraiths. Rom activates his [[Neutralizer]] and blasts the Wraiths away, while a crowd of people crowd around and record Rom's actions. Rom then sees that all the people in the crowd are Wraiths, and while they confess, they continue to record Rom on their phones, framing him as a monster murdering helpless people. The Dire Wraiths then transform, revealing that their "[[Wraith-rot]]" has even infected the landscape, something Rom says is impossible, and he is forced to set fire to the park. He then turns his [[Energy Analyzer]] on to track down Darby, the only Cooper's Mill resident that is still human.

Elsewhere, [[Camilla Byers]] wakes up on the California shore. She calls her police station and reports that she and [[Omar Ruiz]] were attacked last night. [[Cusiter]], her superior, says they know and asks for her location, but she then hears his thoughts, revealing him to be a Dire Wraith. She smashes her phone on the ground and heads back to her car, knowing the Wraiths will be coming after.

Back at Cooper's Mill, Rom finds Darby and, much to her protest, flies her away from the town. He explains to her about the Dire Wraiths, and how they killed and replaced her family, offering his condolences. When she expresses worry about her town, Rom tells her the unfortunate news: the entire town was overrun with Dire Wraiths. Darby was the only one to resist being infected. Rom needs to know why that is before he can wipe the Wraiths from the Earth.

At Vanderberg, the now infected soldier walks out with Dubosky and Kukuk. They walk to a helicopter where they meet up with a team of soldiers called in to help them deal with Rom: [[Scarlett]], [[Roadblock]], and [[Joe Colton]]. [[G.I. Joe (team)|Yo, Joe]].
*The Earth Defense Command began as an organization in the [[The Transformers (cartoon)|original ''Transformers'' cartoon]], and now serves the purpose of a SHIELD-esque organization in the IDW universe.
*Aside from the appearance of the Joe team at the end of the issue, G.I. Joe fans should recognize David Dubosky, otherwise known as Countdown, the Joe team's resident astronaut. Dubosky makes his debut in the IDW universe here as a member of the EDC that's been replaced by a Dire Wraith.
