Knock Out and Starscream's experiment with synthetic energon threatens to take over the Decepticon ship and unleash an old enemy.

Synopsis
[[File:Thirst1.jpg|left|thumb|300px|When he was young he watched the spaceships and he said to dad "I want to be on the ships daddy."<br><br>
Dad said "No! You will BE KILL BY DEMONS"]]

In Knock Out's lab, Starscream bemoans his current situation, having to compete with Shockwave for Megatron's favor. His whining is interrupted by moans from Cylas, who is strapped to a table and begging to be freed. Knock Out injects him with a derivative of the synthetic energon he recovered from the Autobots. The compound drives Cylas into a rage, which Knock Out notes is one of its erratic side effects. Starscream sees in Cylas' fury the makings of a super-soldier for Megatron.

Starscream attempts to inform Megatron of this discovery, but the Decepticon leader is only interested in discussing the status of the Predacon protoforms with Shockwave, who is reporting in from his off-site lab. Brushed off by his leader as unimportant, Starscream sulks on his way back to Knock Out's lab.

Cylas becomes more enraged with each new injection of Synth En. Knock Out discovers that the more the compound is administered, the faster Cylas burns through his own natural energon reserves. Starscream cannot see the use of having another unruly beast that can't be controlled, but then has an idea: Dark Energon. Knock Out objects, noting that the "Blood of Unicron" once turned their own ship against them, and that he would need approval from Shockwave in any case. Starscream assures the doctor that a controlled, minimal injection will merely place Cylas under Megatron's command, via their leader's symbiotic link with the substance, then asserts that "super-soldiers" are a military concern and thus fall under his jurisdiction.

Under orders and under protest, Knock Out injects Cylas with the Dark Energon-enhanced formula. Cylas temporarily powers down before rebooting in a rage and breaking free from his bonds. But after only a few steps, he crumbles to his knees, desperately low on energon. Then with a fierce roar, his lower jaw splits into monstrous mandibles and a long, bladed tongue emerges, which he attempts to use on Starscream to drain him of energon. Unable to subdue him, Starscream and Knock Out flee down the halls of the ship.

Once a safe distance away, Knock Out suggests sounding the alarm. Starscream disagrees, not wanting Megatron to learn of their actions. He claims that once Cylas attempts to feed upon the ship's highly-trained Vehicon troopers, they will take care of the threat.

Elsewhere, one of the Vehicons stumbles upon Cylas, who grabs the highly-trained trooper and begins draining his energon.

Starscream and Knock Out plan the disposal of Cylas' corpse when they find the Vehicon's corpse instead. While the two argue about who's to blame for their predicament, the dead Vehicon rises as a reanimated Terrorcon and reveals the same segmented jaw and bladed tongue that Cylas had. Starscream's blaster fire only staggers it, and Knock Out's suggests destroying the Terrorcon's head. Though Starscream's missile is successful in decapitating the creature, it doesn't stop it in the least, as the body lumbers forward with the tongue sticking out of the neck-hole. A concentrated volley of blasts to the Vehicon's chest destroys the monster's revitalized spark, severing its link to the Dark Energon.

Knock Out posits that Cylas could infect the entire crew in the same manner, a theory that's borne out when they find themselves pursued by multiple energy-draining Terrorcons. Starscream and Knock Out lock themselves in a comm room to get a breather and assess the situation. Accepting that this may be the end, the two Decepticons exchange some awkward final pleasantries and step back into the hall…

…right into Megatron, who demands to know why the Dark Energon in his spark has been reacting strangely as of late. Starscream provides a slanted explanation, but Megatron doesn't believe it until he's forced to destroy an attacking Terrorcon.

After a more extensive debrief of the situation, Megatron puts the ship on high alert and orders Starscream and Knock Out to seek and destroy Cylas. Around the ship, Vehicons and Insecticons battle the infected Terrorcons.

Cylas wanders into the ship's vault. Sensing energon within a stasis pod, he breaks it open, freeing and reviving Airachnid. Cylas attempts to drain her energon, and an short battle ensues, but Airachnid is able to immobilize him with webbing just long enough to deliver a killing blow. She immediately re-establishes her telepathic control over the Insecticons and commands them to return to her. Their sudden departure is noticed by Soundwave.

Starscream and Knock Out discover Cylas' corpse. Starscream is elated until Knock Out points out Airachnid's destroyed prison, followed by Megatron demanding a status update.

Airachnid leads the Insecticons through the halls of the ship, ordering them to wipe out every Decepticon aboard. At the end of the hall, Soundwave calmly steps forward to face them. The bug-bots attack, and Soundwave opens a space bridge directly in front of him at the last second. Before they can react, Airachnid and the Insecticons are teleported away. As the bridge closes behind her, Airachnid realizes that they have been sent to a moon orbiting the abandoned Cybertron and screams in rage.

Aboard the Nemesis, Megatron contacts Shockwave again to inform him they're implementing his containment protocol to prevent further outbreak. He also tells Shockwave to speed up the Predacon cloning project, as they have now lost more than half their military forces. Knock Out is sternly reminded that he is the ship's medic under Shockwave's command, and is forced to turn over all of his experimental projects to the scientist. Megatron then turns to Starscream, intent on teaching him a lesson the only way that seems to get through to him...

Back on the moon, an infected Airachnid drains the energon from one of her minions as the rest of the Insecticons line up obediently to await their turn.

Megatron: [Talking to Shockwave over comm] Tell me of the Predacon protoforms. What is the status of their incubation? Mm-hm. Uh-huh.<br>
Starscream: Master, if I do say so myself, I have made the most intriguing discovery. It appears that--<br>
Megatron: Not now! [Back to Shockwave] Please continue, Shockwave. No, no one important.
:—Megatron doesn't like to be interrupted when he's on the phone.

Starscream: Megatron will undoubtedly hold us responsible.<br>
Knock Out: But...WE ARE!<br>
Starscream: Well, you are, mostly.
:—Starscream blames someone else, news at 11.

"Aim for the head!"<br/>
"What? How do you know?"<br/>
"I've seen human horror films." [Starscream looks at him curiously] "At drive-in theaters!"
:—Knock Out schools Starscream on how to survive a zombie apocalypse.

"I find it rather ironic that after battling Autobots all these years, getting smacked down, shot at, blown up, this is how our lights go out?"<br/>
"Drained of our precious fluids. If this is indeed the end, if we are to become Terrorcon-chow, it has been an honor serving Lord Megatron with you."<br/>
"You're no Breakdown. Though I must confess, I have always admired your lustrous finish."<br/>
"*mm-hmm* Well, then."<br/>
"Should be going."
:—Starscream and Knock Out begin a beautiful friendship… and remind us of someone's words on another day.

Megatron: Would either of you like to tell me what exactly is going on? <br/>
Starscream: Yes, absolutely nothing, my liege. <br/>
Knock Out: All is quiet, too quiet. One could even say dull!<br/>
Megatron: Funny, because the Dark Energon within my spark has been pulsing.<br/>
Starscream: (To Knock Out) Allow me to handle this. (To Megatron) IT'S KNOCK OUT'S FAULT!<br/>
Knock Out: Precisely my-WHAT?!
:—Knock Out somehow manages to be surprised by Starscream yet again passing the buck.

"Silas? Whatever have they done to you? But more importantly, thank you for freeing me."<br/>
"No. Thank…you… [Dies]<br/>
"Whatever."
:—Airachnid is unmoved by Cylas final words.
<br/>
"Starscream, I hope you replaced your T-Cog, because I'm going to tear it out all over again and feed it to Knock Out!"
:-Cylas under the influence of synthetic Energon let's Starscream know what he has planned for him should he ever get out.
<br/>
"Soundwave! I vow that on this day, the world will hear the sound of your screams."
:—Airachnid's mouth writes a check that her abdomen can't cash.

Notes
Animation and technical errors
* Airachnid lost one of her spider legs to the closing pod door when she was put in stasis, but all six are intact in this episode.
* Starscream's missile cleanly beheads a Vehicon, leaving no burn marks or exposed circuitry of any kind. For that matter, the headless Vehicon reveals that there is no "joint" on the model for the head to attach to, just a completely flat surface with a hole for the tongue. You normally don't see it because the neck just goes straight into the base of the collar, as if the collar form-fits around the neck.
*Airachnid probably shouldn't have been able to scream, having been on a moon.

Continuity errors
* Knock Out discusses the events of "Stronger, Faster" and "Flying Mind" with Starscream, even though Starscream wasn't part of the Decepticon ranks when either took place. While it is conceivable that Starscream learned of the events of both episodes through the ship's logs or another source, Knock Out speaks as if they were both witness to them.
* In an error also present in "Darkmount, NV" and Scattered", Soundwave is able to use the Space Bridge to open an entrance portal within the Nemesis, even though in previous seasons the travelers need to use Space Bridge itself for transit to Cybertron.

Continuity notes
* Yowza, this would be a tough episode to start watching the series.
* Airachnid was frozen in stasis in "Armada" and was retrieved from the Autobot base by the Decepticons in "Darkmount, NV".
* The polarity gauntlet can be seen in the vault, in the first of the five containment fields. It was left on Cybertron by Bumblebee in "Darkest Hour", and can be assumed to have been recovered by Knock Out's salvage team offscreen in "Darkmount, NV". This leaves only the Immobilizer unaccounted for.
* Silas, the formerly 100% human commander of MECH, was surgically combined with Breakdown's corpse in "The Human Factor". He changed his name to Cylas (Cybernetic Life Augmented by Symbiosis) and became a reluctant guest of the Decepticons in the same episode.
* Cylas (then Silas) entered into a partnership of convenience with Starscream in "Operation Bumblebee, Part 1" and conveniently stole his T-cog in "Operation Bumblebee, Part 2".
* Cylas (then Silas) once had Breakdown pinned to his operating table in "Operation: Breakdown".
* Knock Out recovered some of Ratchet's synthetic energon in "Stronger, Faster".
* Shockwave has been working from an off-site laboratory since "Chain of Command".
* Megatron previously used Dark Energon to reanimate and control the dead in "Darkness Rising, Part 3".
* Dark Energon awakened a dangerous, self-serving intelligence within the Decepticon warship in "Flying Mind".
* Airachnid killed Breakdown and discovered her telepathic control of the Insecticons in "Crossfire".
* Airachnid knows Cylas (then Silas) from their brief partnership in "Crisscross".
* Airachnid's desire to have Soundwave scream likely stems from the very one-sided beatdown she received from him in "One Shall Rise, Part 3".
* Starscream refers to the Decepticon soldiers as "Vehicons" confirming it as their real designation. Wheeljack previously used that term in to describe them in "Plus One"
* Megatron alludes to the beatings he bestowed on Starscream in "Darkness Rising, Part 4" and in-between the episodes "Out of His Head" and "Shadowzone" when he prepares to punish Starscream "the only way he understands".

Transformers references
* Protoforms are the first stage of Transformer life in many continuities.
* Megatron again refers to his upcoming Predacon army as Beast Machine super-soldiers.

Real-world references
* Knock Out's proclamation of "It's alive" echoes the famous words spoken in Frankenstein.
* In addition to the segmented jaw and barbed tongue, the Terrorcons' teeth also transform into vampiric fangs.
* As Knock Out indicated, destroying the head is the traditional way to kill zombies in many horror movies. But only human ones.
* This episode heavily pays homage to the 1985 zombie film The Return of the Living Dead where two humans (Frank and Freddie) cause a gas to spread across a cemetery that revives dead corpses into zombies and then plays comedy with the two trying to control the situation while blaming each other for the zombie apocalypse, much like Starscream and Knock Out in this episode. The zombies in The Return of the Living Dead couldn't be killed by headshots, either.
* There is also some homage to the film Blade II, specifically in the physiological effects of the virus. The Reapers, genetically-engineered vampire mutants, possessed the same type of unfolding jaw and feeding tendril, as well as a greatly increased blood appetite due to a heightened metabolism.
* Knock Out places his fingers on the neck of the first Vehicon that fell victim to Cylas to check for life signs. This is often done to test a seriously injured person for a pulse in their carotid artery.

Trivia
* This is the first episode which doesn't feature the Autobots in any capacity. Previously, "Patch", the last Decepticon-centric episode, had flashbacks which contained Autobots even though none appeared in person. Peter Cullen, however, gets to voice the zombified Vehicon trooper Megatron puts down.
* Starscream says that the ship is crawling with "highly-trained Vehicon troopers". Kinda makes you wonder what a poorly-trained one is like, huh?
* On-the-move teleportation seems as if it's becoming Soundwave's signature move, having used it to dispatch Arcee in "Orion Pax, Part 1" and to claim the Predacon fossil in "Project Predacon".
* Steve Blum is credited as "Insecticon #1" instead of Bombshock this time.
* The last thing Silas/Cylas did to Starscream was knock him out and steal his T-Cog, so it's no surprise Starscream has no desire to help him at the beginning of the episode.
* Starscream alludes to having collected "dozens of Predacon bones", and Shockwave has already grown a batch of protoforms. This implies a significant timeskip between this episode and the last, since Shockwave had only just just established an off-site laboratory in "Chain of Command" and "Plus One" takes place immediately after that episode. Furthermore, the amount of bones collected, assuming it's not hyperbole on Starscream's part, suggests a rather bad run of luck for the Autobots.
* This episode marks the first onscreen death of a human, fittingly the last living member of MECH. MECH members have had no shortage of offscreen or implied deaths, but none so obvious as this instance.

"Starscream, I hope you replaced your T-Cog, because I'm going to tear it out all over again and feed it to Knock Out!"
:-Cylas under the influence of synthetic Energon let's Starscream know what he has planned for him should he ever get out.

Megatron's plans force Optimus to make a risky decision that could have inescapable consequences for the entire Autobot team.

Synopsis
The two groups stand on Cybertron staring each other down. While the Autobots have the Omega Keys, the Decepticons have Jack, Raf and Miko. Megatron orders Starscream to get ready to expose Jack to Cybertron's toxic atmosphere. Though the kids are ready to sacrifice themselves to save the planet, Optimus Prime isn't, and the Autobots throw down their weapons. Bulkhead hands over his key in exchange for Miko, Bumblebee hands over his for Raf, and Megatron insists that as someone who was entrusted with the Matrix of Leadership, Jack is surely worth two keys, so Arcee and Smokescreen are compelled to hand over their keys. The exchange done, a GroundBridge opens and the Autobots are quickly surrounded by Vehicons.

On Earth, Ratchet gets a call from June Darby, who's unable to find Jack. Ratchet is more concerned with keeping the comm lines clear, unaware that the kids are on Cybertron, where at that moment the Decepticons are activating the Omega Lock. At a touch from Megatron, the lock sends out a beam of energy that restructures and recreates a nearby building to look as good as new. Though Optimus requests he be allowed to take the humans back to Earth, Megatron announces they'll be safer where they are. He has Starscream fire up the space bridge and shoots another beam from the Omega Lock through it. The beam strikes near Jasper, Nevada, where June stops trying to contact Jack to watch the beam strike ground, and Ratchet finds all of the base's systems are disrupted.

Miko doesn't see the problem with the Omega Lock restoring Earth until Optimus points out that the Omega Lock will turn her planet into a metallic world like Cybertron, killing all organic life. As Megatron gloats that he will have two worlds to rule, Optimus finally snaps and grabs the Star Saber. Though Megatron tries to respond with the Dark Star Saber, Optimus neatly cleaves his arm off before stomping on Starscream and striking the Omega Lock with the sword. A massive explosion ensues.

Ratchet's equipment clears up in time to get a transmission from Optimus requesting a space bridge. The Autobots retreat through back to Earth, while Starscream cuts off a quip from Knock Out to suggest he tend to Megatron. Though Starscream is furious at Prime's actions, Megatron laughs as he knows the Autobots will find their base is no longer a safe haven.

Ratchet is aghast as the Autobots return carrying the children, and even more so when they tell him Optimus has destroyed the Omega Lock. While he's pointing out that Optimus has thrown away any hope for a restored Cybertron, the discussion is cut short by a call from Agent Fowler, suggesting they take a look outside. As they step out on top of the mountain, the Autobots see that a huge Cybertronian fortress now stands right on their doorstep. Fowler wonders why they picked Jasper, but as the Nemesis arrives, Optimus realizes that the Decepticons have found the Autobot base. After a speech from Megatron, Starscream and an armada of Vehicons and Insecticons dive to the attack. The Autobots retreat into the base, but Fowler jumps back into his helicopter and flies directly through the oncoming Decepticon formations. While he's soon outgunned and being chased by Vehicons, the Jackhammer streaks into view—Wheeljack has come to lend a hand.

Optimus orders the Autobots to abandon base, splitting up to different parts of the USA. Outside, Fowler avoids more Decepticons only to see the Nemesis moving into position over the Autobot base. The Autobots quickly start moving out through the GroundBridge. June Fowler, driving her car along a Jasper road, is attacked by a Vehicon that Fowler destroys before picking her up. Starscream manages to shoot down the Jackhammer which plunges to Earth. As Smokescreen heads out, Optimus tells Ratchet that he will make sure the Decepticons can't follow them, shortly before the medic leaves. Optimus moves to use the Star Saber to destroy the GroundBridge controls, but at that moment his task is rendered mute as the Nemesis fires, destroying the Autobot base in a huge explosion. Megatron and Starscream land among the remains, landing on the Autobot insignia so they can gloat, while a short distance away, Optimus's arm sticks out of the rubble.
Notes
Animation and technical errors
* As in previous episodes, Megatron's jet mode retains the fusion cannon even though he no longer has it. Taking it a step further, his transformation appears unaffected by the absence of his right arm.

Continuity notes
* Megatron remembers that Jack was entrusted with the Matrix of Leadership back in "Orion Pax, Part 3".
* Ratchet vaguely references the events of "Hurt" when expressing surprise at Wheeljack's arrival. This also seems to be the reason why no one enlisted his aid for the events of the previous episode.

The quest for the Omega Lock takes the Autobots and the Decepticons to Cybertron for a battle.

Synopsis
Miko is already making plans to move in with Bulkhead on Cybertron while Jack is feeling left out of the loop. Ratchet points out they no longer have the Omega Keys, let alone any way to get to Cybertron. They speculate that Starscream has used the keys to bargain his way back with the Decepticons. While they're wondering why Starscream didn't just try to sell the keys to the highest bidder, they are contacted by Dreadwing, who requests a meeting. Bridging out to a remote location, they find Dreadwing, who presents them with the Forge of Solus Prime. Disillusioned by the fate of his brother, Dreadwing no longer believes in the Decepticon cause, though he's not interested in joining the Autobots either.

Back at base, the Autobots wonder what Megatron will do with the Omega Keys, and Optimus Prime believes he will use them to restore Cybertron for political points. Optimus is aware that Megatron doesn't know of the existence of the Omega Lock, which is needed to use the keys. He reveals to the others that Alpha Trion entrusted him with knowledge of the Lock and its location on Cybertron during the message stored in the Star Saber. Optimus starts using the Forge to modify the GroundBridge.

Dreadwing returns to the Nemesis where Megatron encounters him in a corridor and makes sure to stress that the Decepticons must be united to restore Cybertron. For his part, Dreadwing intends to personally reach out to Starscream. In the medical bay, Knock Out has just finished restoring Starscream's T-Cog when Dreadwing arrives and immediately attempts to kill Starscream. As Knock Out flees, Dreadwing advances on the patient with his sword, but as he raises his sword, Megatron arrived and demands he stand down. Dreadwing refuses, and Megatron is forced to blast a hole through him with Dreadwing's own cannon.

The Autobots wonder why Optimus has been hiding things from them. Smokescreen points out that Megatron would have learned about the Omega Lock by now if Optimus had been more open.

Knock Out and Starscream work on studying the Omega Keys in an attempt to discover how they work. Starscream resorts to hitting one against the table, and then against Knock Out, and they inadvertently discover that the keys lock together. By combining all four, they reveal a holographic map of Cybertron with a location marker on it. Pleased, Megatron orders the space bridge fired up.

Optimus finishes turning the GroundBridge into a space bridge. The base sensors detect the Decepticon space bridge firing up, and the Autobots realize that time is short. Optimus believes they still have the element of surprise. The Autobots pull the various Iacon relics they possess from storage. Meanwhile, Megatron leaves Starscream in command of the ship and takes a platoon of Vehicons with the Omega Keys through the space bridge. As the Autobots likewise fire up their space bridge, Optimus uses the Forge to recreate the Star Saber, and they too head through. Megatron and his men soon stand at the edge of the Sea of Rust.

Jack gives Ratchet a call, as school's out and he, Miko and Raf haven't been picked up by the Autobots yet. Ratchet merely tells them the others are busy and hangs up.

As Megatron and his men walk through the Sea of Rust, Smokescreen rises out of the ground and attacks them from behind. Bumblebee drops scrap on them using the polarity gauntlet, Bulkhead zaps them with the Immobilizer, and Arcee smashes through them while wearing the Apex Armor. Megatron himself faces Optimus and the Star Saber, and while the pair fight, the other Autobots take back the Omega Keys. With a swipe of his blade, Optimus sends Megatron flying so the Autobots can retreat. As Megatron orders his men to follow, Smokescreen phases out of some nearby scenery and drops the spark extractor before disappearing again. The device obliterates the Vehicons before Megatron hurls the Dark Star Saber, impaling it. Megatron orders Starscream to send reinforcements, but Starscream and Soundwave have an even better idea.

The Autobots reach the Omega Lock, an unassuming dimple on the landscape. The Keys glow, and the location transforms, creating a huge ring over their heads that fills with a shimmering energy field. Megatron arrives and demands they hand over the Keys. While the Autobots are wondering what motivation Megatron could give them for doing that, a space bridge opens and Starscream, Knock Out and Soundwave step out, carrying the three kids in airtight containers. Megatron threatens to expose all three to Cybertron's toxic atmosphere unless they return the Keys to him.

Notes
Animation and technical errors
* As in "Inside Job", Megatron still has his fusion cannon when he transforms into vehicle mode, despite the arm it was attached to being removed.
* The Star Saber and Dark Star Saber vanish when their owners transform, even though both weapons are nearly as tall as their owners and shouldn't fit within their vehicle modes.
* When the Polarity Gauntlet saw action on Earth for the first time in "Metal Attraction", it affected both the bots around and the metal in the environment. When Bumblebee used it to pull the Omega Keys from the Vehicons, none of the bots around were affected, not even the reinforced Arcee.

Continuity errors
* At the base, Optimus explains that the plan is to first secure the Omega Lock on Cybertron, and then go after the Omega Keys. The Autobots wind up doing the exact opposite; they attack the Decepticons, acquire the keys and then they travel to the coordinates of the Lock.

Continuity notes
* Dreadwing gives the Autobots the Forge of Solus Prime, last seen being used to forge Megatron's Dark Star Saber in "Alpha/Omega". Optimus uses it to convert the GroundBridge into a space bridge and reforge the Star Saber, the latter of which was destroyed in that episode. Megatron himself references the event in battle with Optimus.
* Dreadwing attempts to kill Starscream for desecrating his twin's body in "Shadowzone", which he learned about in the previous episode.
* Every relic which has been collected thus far sees action. This is also the first use of the spark extractor.
* The research on the Autobots' human allies, first mentioned in "Hard Knocks", sees fruition in this episode.

Transformers references
* The Omega Lock was previously seen in the Cybertron cartoon, where it was also used to restore life to Cybertron.
* Optimus declares "Megatron must be stopped, no matter the cost!"

Real-world references
Trivia
* Jack, Miko, and Raf appear after a four-episode absence.
* Dreadwing's loyalty to the Decepticon cause finally proves weaker than his loyalty to his twin Skyquake.
* Despite the rather high stakes, no one on Team Prime thinks to contact Wheeljack or the Rescue Bots.
* So, if the containers are airtight, how are the kids breathing?
* Ratchet mentions that they have detected the activation of another Spacebridge. This means that with the Groundbridge upgraded to a Spacebridge, its systems can detect other portals in range. It can also be observed that the display of the Groundbridge is of a green tint. After the upgrade it is blue-grey.
