'''As Unicron stands ready to attack Cybertron, the Autobots and Decepticons fight back. Galvatron takes extra time to deal with the issue of Thrust's betrayal of the rest of his species.'''

==Synopsis==
[[File:Union-ThrustSidewaysinUnicron.jpg|left|155px|thumb|"Hey, patsy, er, uh, Thrust. Scram!"]]
[[Unicron]] stands, his body surrounded by energy, destroying any ships that come close to him. While [[Megatron (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Galvatron]] orders his forces to retreat to a safe distance, [[Thrust (Armada)|Thrust]] sits on Unicron's shoulder, laughing at the feeble efforts to defeat his new god. However, he's still steaming about how [[Sideways (Armada)|Sideways]] had told him to get lost after the [[Star Saber (Armada)|Star Saber]] had been placed inside Unicron. He plans his first action as Unicron's right-hand bot to get rid of Sideways.

The [[Autobot]]s and [[Decepticon]]s try to determine how their armies could possibly defeat Unicron. Unicron suddenly takes action and prepares to attack the abandoned planetside. [[Hot Shot (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Hot Shot]] and [[Wheeljack (Armada)|Wheeljack]] lead some fighter planes, hoping to interrupt Unicron. While the fighters can't harm Unicron, they focus on Thrust.

The Cybertronian army's scanners finally detect a weak point on Unicron's neck. A plan is formed, giving Galvatron the opportunity to personally confront Thrust. Thrust stands on Unicron's shoulder, and notices that Unicron is making no responses to any advisement—he questions that perhaps the web of lies he had constructed might have been a mistake, he assures himself that Unicron is the right way. At this point, his sanity is clearly in question.

[[File:Unionthrust.JPG|155px|thumb]]
[[Optimus Prime (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]] and Galvatron realize that the key to defeating Unicron lies within the [[Mini-Con]]s inside of Unicron, since the Mini-Cons themselves desire nothing but to free themselves from Unicron's grasp. At the same time, the kids come to a similar conclusion. Seeing that it might work, Galvatron declares that they finally work as a real team. Before the plans are put into action, Unicron fires his massive energy cannon, blasting a very, very large portion out of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]'s landscape. Before Unicron fires again, Optimus and Galvatron commence their own attack, leaving both Autobot and Decepticon armies under the command of [[Hot Shot (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Hot Shot]]. The final war on Unicron begins, the ''[[Hydra Cannon]]'' positioned to use its force field to block the blast that could tear another chunk out of Cybertron.

[[File:Unionunicroncannon.JPG|left|155px|thumb|Don't tell Unicron, but the cannon is actually voice activated.]]
While Optimus aims above the plasma chest to allow himself and Galvatron to go inside Unicron, Galvatron confronts Thrust of his treachery against the [[Transformer]]s, swearing that he will pay for it. Unmoved, Thrust gloats, proclaiming the destruction of Cybertron is inevitable. But seconds after professing his desire to see Galvatron destroyed, Thrust bounces into a quickly closing crack in Unicron's armor. Squeezed, he begs for help, only to find out that his cries for help elicit no response from either the Chaos Bringer or his former leader. Galvatron then turns his back away from this, warning Thrust that this is the fate of those daring to dream for power and treason, and Thrust is inevitably popped like a pathetic zit to his death.

The ''Hydra Cannon''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s shields give up, letting Unicron's powerful blast head towards Cybertron, but before it makes contact, the glowing green [[Mini-Con]]s rush to block the shot. Before Unicron closes the panels that cover his cannon, Optimus and Galvatron sneak inside.

The [[Street Action Mini-Con Team]] announce they plan on going inside of Unicron too. The kids and [[Red Alert (Armada)|Red Alert]] decide they're going along to help. The Mini-Cons outside combine into a [[Unicron of Light|massive green mirror of Unicron]], who protects the kids long enough to sneak through the underground warp gate, but while the kids sneak through the gate in time, Red Alert is left buried in rubble.

With Optimus and Galvatron at Unicron's core, the kids and the Street Action Team are elsewhere in Unicron. Unicron battles the Mini-Con mirror of himself, while a combined army of Autobots and Decepticons engage in one final assault.
==Notes==
===Differences with ''Legends of the Microns''===
* When Thrust commands Unicron to destroy the Transformers, the animation of him twirling is at a slow pace and seemingly stops at a random point. ''Legends of the Microns'' has him go faster and has the finished animation where where he swings his arm by the end of the shot.
* In ''Legends of the Microns'', while Thrust lusts for the destruction of all other [[Transformer]]s, he becomes utterly terrified and confused when Unicron attacks Cybertron. In the dub, Thrust is the one insisting that Unicron should destroy the planet, and laughs maniacally all the way through.
* When Optimus and Galvatron Powerlinx with Jetfire and Tidal Wave respectively in ''Armada'', an insert of the Transformers theme plays and ends when Galvatron lands close to Thrust. Meanwhile in ''Legend of the Microns'', the track "[[The Transformers Legends of the Microns: Sound of Evolution Vol. 2|The Ultimate Soldier Returns]]" plays, and ends with the upward pan of Unicron.
*Galvatron and Thrust's last moment together is slightly different between dubs, mostly how Thrust sounds more confident in the English dub whereas he's more unhinged in the Japanese:
** ''Armada'' has Galvatron tell Thrust he'll pay for his betrayal, to which Thrust replies he isn’t afraid of him anymore and at least he chooses his allies wisely. Thrust then calls Galvatron a bad joke and asks what he was thinking joining forces with the Autobots, and then says he has no need for him since all they did was fight one meaningless battle after another. He proceeds to mock him for not managing to control his own soldiers and praises Unicron for his enormous size and bets on a successful partnership, which makes Galvatron passively calls him out on liking his own voice. Thrust proceeds to tell Galvatron he can't wait until Unicron blasts him into pieces, and when he gets caught in one of Unicron's moving parts acted like all of what he just said was a joke and he didn't mean any of it. Galvatron tells Thrust he can either shoot him now or come out on his own, and threatens him that there will be no where to hide before leaving, with the latter's last words consist of begging Galvatron not just leaving him to his death. Galvatron tells Thrust that having large amounts of power will eventually consume you, and Thrust is somehow able to let out a final death scream.
** Galvatron mentions Starscream when he threatens Thrust in ''Legends of the Microns'', to which the latter says that isn't like him to say something like that. Thrust proceeds to say that even with a union, they'll never stand up against Unicron and it doesn't matter if he gets shot or not, and then calls Galvatron a fool for caring about overpowering all Transformers and conquering the universe when all he did was fight an endless war, and says he got tired of it all. Thrust then puts Unicron on a high pedestal, mentioning his enormous power and calling him the God of Destruction, and with him now being his servant, he has become the chosen one and will soon be able to realize his own dream. Galvatron asks Thrust if that's all he has to say, to which the latter says he will never achieve his dream and is destined to become space dust before getting stuck. Thrust then begs Galvatron for help, but the latter makes his leave and tells the former he can have his life ended here, or escape on his own and chase after the union. Thrust proceeds to whimper about being in pain, and Galvatron says that his dreams have now been shattered before he explodes. Thrust doesn't scream when blowing up, but sounds of crushing metal can be heard more clearly. Additionally, the animation when Thrust is getting crushed is faster and more timed in ''Legends of the Microns'' compared to ''Armada'', and his final scream has an echo effect.
* The final shot of Unicron's heart is silent in the Japanese dub.

===Translation errors===
* When Optimus orders Red Alert to protect the kids and "retreat to the safe zone," Carlos petulantly exclaims "What a—", and uses [[Wiktionary:gyp|a synonym for "cheat" derived from a slur]] for the {{w|Romani people|Roma}}. While this was clearly a deliberate choice by the dub writer, on another level, we feel pretty safe saying this was a mistake.
* For the whole episode, Demolishor talks using Hoist's voice, and is referred to as "Hoist" the only time he is named. Hoist also has one line in his own voice. To be clear, this isn't an animation error; it's an error introduced by the English dub, as it's definitely supposed to be Demolishor speaking, having used data from [[Blackout (Armada)|his Mini-Con]] to identify Unicron's weak spot.
** The Finnish, Italian, and Swedish dubs of this episode replicate this exact error, presumably being based on the English dub scripts.
* Thrust flashes back to an occasion where Sideways promises that Unicron will give him immense power, if he agrees to sever his "allegiance with ''Galvatron''". This is presumably when Thrust first teams up with Sideways—but in the English dub, that would mean it takes place long ''before'' Galvatron took on his new name. In Japanese, he was simply Megatron for the whole show, but this is one case where the dub writers ''shouldn't'' have localized the trademark.
* Billy refers to the [[Requiem Blaster (Armada)|Requiem Blaster]] as the "Auto Blaster". Maybe he's just stupid?
* When Jet Optimus combines with Overload, he yells out "[[Ultra Magnus (disambiguation)|Ultra Magnus]]!" That's Overload's Japanese name.
* When referring to the Mini-Cons dormant within Unicron, High Wire says "Perceptor is not waking up." Perceptor is the combined form of the [[Street Action Mini-Con Team]]. We honestly have no idea how they mixed this one up, as Perceptor isn't mentioned at all in the Japanese version.
* Sureshock is given a male voice, even though the character is intended to be female. The Japanese dub has a female voice actor.
* The dub writers clearly had no idea what to call the [[Dead End Drone]]s that attack Optimus and Galvatron inside Unicron; Galvatron just refers to them as "Laser Pods".

===Animation and technical errors===
[[File:Unionthrustdeath.jpg|155px|thumb|TETSUOOOO]]
* In one shot during the initial attack on Unicron, Wheeljack's scar is missing.
* Thrust's death is pretty cartoonish: he's squeezed like a tube of toothpaste, his torso and head expanding before he explodes entirely into sparkly pink dust. Look, fair enough, this isn't really an error—even if he's a robot, getting crushed in half is probably a bit too graphic for a kids' show!

===Continuity notes===
* Overload is briefly visible in robot mode.
* Thrust is the only named ''Armada'' character to die and not be resurrected at a later point in the [[Unicron Trilogy]].
** However, in the Japanese continuity, Thrust is resurrected as Unicron's servant in the ''[[Transformers Unite Warriors|Unite Warriors]]'' comics.
* Sureshock speaks using human language for the first time.
* Gadgets and powers:
** Unicron uses some kind of lightning forcefield to shield his body from oncoming attacks.
** Unicron's scream can unleash shockwaves.
** While not shown on-screen, [[Rollout (Armada)|Rollout]] is [[Powerlinx]]ed with Overload.
** Unicron's chest cannon fires plasma bursts.
** Unicron fires spherical bombs from the planet-kibble pieces on his legs. While the show depicts them as spheres, these are actually missiles on the toy, with the spherical parts only being the tips.
** The gravitational field of Unicron's forearm running just ever so slightly past Cybertron's surface, is enough to tear apart cities.

===Trivia===
* The English version of "Union" first aired in the United Kingdom. It aired in the United States on [[December 10]], 2003.
* ''Legends of the Microns''' [[commercial bumper]] of Unicron appearing over Cybertron debuts in this episode.
* Isn't it irregular that the commercial break is opened with a shot of the Autobot logo appearing on [[Earth]], when the story hasn't had any non-flashback scenes on Earth for nine episodes now?
* Thrust raises the nosecone part of his head when he's shocked, similarly to how a human raises their eyebrows.
* Rad's gloves are excessively cool.
* This episode marks the last time a Transformer Powerlinxed with a Mini-Con in the series, along with two Transformers Powerlinxing together.
'''Starscream's sacrifice spurs the Autobots and the Decepticons to join forces. But Unicron awakens...'''

==Synopsis==
[[File:Sshot-arm-494-remains.jpg|left|thumb|You failed, your highness. I'm a Jedi, like my father before me...yeah...]]
[[Demolishor (Armada)|Demolishor]] is astonished to hear about the truce between the two armies and asks if [[Megatron (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Galvatron]] is functioning. [[Cyclonus (Armada)|Cyclonus]] is disgusted that they're doing this simply because the traitorous [[Starscream (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Starscream]] asked that they do it, but then suggests that they simply use the idea of a truce to ambush the [[Autobot]]s. Outraged, Galvatron makes Cyclonus respect his authority with the usual amount of physical punishment. Galvatron is upset at how poorly things have turned out, but Starscream's sacrifice has convinced him: they're going to ally with the Autobots...for now in order to stop [[Unicron]]. Galvatron went far stating of the reasons of why Starscream rebelled against him in the first place, calling him a true soldier.

[[File:Sshot-arm-491-ships.jpg|thumb|Not all Autobot spaceships know how to swim.]]
Seeing Galvatron's point of the crisis, the rest of the [[Decepticon]]s agree to the truce, except for Cyclonus, who is still disgusted by this. Inside of Unicron, [[Thrust (Armada)|Thrust]] and [[Sideways (Armada)|Sideways]] plan their inevitable victory and conquest of the universe. The power of the [[Star Saber (Armada)|Star Saber]] allows Unicron to shed the remains of his moon-disguise shell. The dark god hovers over [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], sucking up parts of the terrain. Both armies evacuate the surface, assisted by the [[Mini-Con]] swarm.

In a ceremonial procedure, Galvatron and his Decepticons meet with [[Optimus Prime (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]] and the Autobots for a handshake to seal the truce. The leaders shake hands, and [[Perceptor (Armada)|Perceptor]] also grabs on as his way of representing the allegiance of the Mini-Cons. The kids observe this, astonished that it's actually happening. [[Alexis Thi Dang|Alexis]] begins to tear up and when [[Carlos Lopez|Carlos]] asks her if she's all right, she says she was just remembering Starscream and how he would have loved to see this happening for himself. Forming a single front, the Autobot/Decepticon [[Transformers: Armada (franchise)|armada]] heads towards Unicron. The first volley of fire does no damage against their enemy. Two larger ships perform reconnaissance and are blasted, so a team of [[Hot Shot (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Hot Shot]], [[Side Swipe (Armada)|Side Swipe]], Demolishor, and Cyclonus (and some others) are sent in, based on a theory that smaller ships will elude Unicron's detection. On Unicron's surface, Cyclonus and the generics fly away to break stuff, and Demolishor leaves to avoid Hot Shot, leaving the two Autobots by themselves.

[[File:Alliance Redshirts.jpg|thumb|left|Balls of DOOOOM!!!!]]
Unicron's geography shifts and folds, disturbing his visitors and causing Demolishor to lose [[Blackout (Armada)|Blackout]]. From the base, Galvatron suggests another attack, which Optimus Prime makes sure won't harm the recon crew, who have their hands full fighting against swarms of [[Dead End Drone]]s. Demolishor saves Cyclonus from falling into a fissure, while the Autobots assist their begrudging allies. Demolishor saves Side Swipe from falling into another fissure, and Hot Shot thanks the Decepticon by re-uniting Demolishor with Blackout—a tender moment. Optimus and Galvatron arrive to bring the group home.

From a distance, the armada witnesses Unicron complete his transformation into [[robot mode]], ready to devour the planet.

==Notes==
===Differences with ''Legends of the Microns''===
*At the start of the episode, Demolishor and Cyclonus question Galvatron's decision to join the Autobots without moving their mouths. This is due to the dub extending their lines, as in the original they didn't speak during the shot where their faces are shown.
*The original has Demolishor lamenting Starscream's death, while in the ''Armada'' he claims he was a traitor who got what he deserved.
*In ''Armada'', Hot Shot tells Demolishor to be quiet even though the latter just says he doesn't want to get shot by Unicron. ''Legends of the Microns'' just has Demolishor's saying that the Autobots sound overly optimistic, with Hot Shot's responding with "What was that?!"

===Animation and technical errors===
*Strangely, some errors present are exclusive to ''Legends of the Microns'', whereas ''Armada'' actually fixes them. Granted, it's a ''very'' small number and the episode is otherwise the same animation wise, but still odd, especially since it's ''always'' the opposite. This is the only episode of the entire cartoon that has this quirk, so guess someone must've messed up which version to broadcast. This includes:
**When Galvatron delivers his speech after punching Cyclonus, Wheeljack is colored like [[Sparkplug (Armada)|Sparkplug]]. ''Armada'' has him colored properly (albeit with the red eyes remaining). However, in a later shot when the Decepticons are running, Wheeljack is once again incorrectly colored with Sparkplug's palette.
**When Galvatron shoots at Unicron, his blaster is incorrectly colored white. ''Armada'' fixes this by making it the proper black dark gray and yellow.
** In two shots while in planet mode, Unicron is missing one of his arms.
**When the Autobots and Decepticons go to Unicron with their pods, the former faction seemingly stop in the air when they are trying to land. ''Armada'' fixes this by making them actually land on the ground.
*At several points throughout the opening scene, the Decepticons are all drawn with hideously faulty character models with poor proportions and lack of detail.
*As the Decepticons prepare to launch the ship to escape from Unicron's gravitational pull, generic Decepticons using [[Inferno (Armada)|Inferno]], [[Mirage (Armada)|Mirage]], and the [[Air Military Mini-Con Team]]'s [[character model]]s are standing in the ship's hangar bay.
*The [[Race Mini-Con Team|Race Team Mini-Con]] Mirage appears among the Mini-Cons there, but he should be with Thrust inside Unicron by now, as the traitorous Decepticon had stolen the [[Skyboom (Armada)|Skyboom Shield]] several episodes earlier. However, this could be just another case of model reuse.
*In the same scene, Wheeljack has been colored as Sideways.
*Several of the Mini-Cons protecting the ''Axalon'' and the Autobot fleet during the lift-off from Cybertron use Generation 1 character models instead of Mini-Con character models.
*The four generic Decepticons on the mission to Unicron change colour between each shot.
*When Unicron begins to transform, part of the ring that surrounds his planet mode is missing.
*When Jet Optimus attacks the Dead End Drones surrounding Hot Shot and Demolishor's recon team, the laser blast comes from in front of the first drone destroyed, rather than behind (the direction from which Prime is coming).
*Unless [[size changing]] occurs when Galvatron and Tidal Wave combine, there's no way Galvatron should be able to pick up Demolishor and Cyclonus with each hand.
*When shaking hands with Tidal Wave, Jetfire's wings are shortened to just above his head. This is possibly to continue the tradition of exaggerating Tidal Wave's size.
**Oddly, despite the change in length of his wings, the characters are drawn to be in accurate [[scale]] with one another.
*When Optimus gives the order to fire only on Unicron's northern hemisphere, the very next shot shows Unicron being fired upon all over his planet mode.

===Continuity notes===
*Despite destroying Starscream for firing upon him in the previous episode, Unicron doesn't seem to mind Galvatron doing exactly the same thing.
*Assuming the episode was entirely in real-time, Unicron's transformation took close to seven minutes.
*The three Mini-Con super weapons are used to fully restore Unicron's power. Guess the Mini-Cons really are Unicron's cells.
*Unicron's innards appear to be [[technorganic]].
*Gadgets and powers:
**Unicron fires lasers from the chunks on the right side of his planet mode (the ones that house the Mini-Con gimmick to fire the leg missiles on the toy).
**Unicron's surface can deploy drones to attack any unwanted guests, specifically the Autobots and Decepticons.
**Mid-transformation, Unicron uses his shoulder/planet horns to fire an energy beam at Jet Optimus.
**The inside of Hot Shot's shin apparently has hollow space, big enough to store a Mini-Con. As an added piece of toy acurracy, his shins open on the transformation hinges of his toy.
**Unicron has a surface-based turret he uses to try to shoot Optimus in the back.

===Continuity errors===
*Cyclonus is in danger of falling into a hole, having apparently forgotten that ''he can fly'', which he was doing ''moments before''. It's possible that he's just that stupid, but not likely.

===Transformers references===
*Several parts of Unicron's transformation sequence are a visual homage to his transformation in ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]''.

===Trivia===
[[File:Armada decepticons alliance.jpg|thumb|Galvatron...Emperor Palpatine...What's the difference?]]
*The English version of "Alliance" first aired in the United Kingdom. It aired in the United States on [[December 9]], 2003.
*Various cameos appear in the hand-shaking scene, including [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] and a palette-swapped [[Dead End (G1)|Dead End]] of the [[Stunticon (G1)|Stunticons]].
*The generic Decepticons sent to Unicron to assist the named characters have Generation 1 character models (namely [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]], [[Blitzwing (G1)|Blitzwing]], [[Bonecrusher (G1)|Bonecrusher]] and [[Buster (G1)|Buster]]) but with radically different color schemes. They totally {{w|Redshirt (character)|all died}}.
*Various [[generic]] Mini-Cons use the Generation 1 [[Throttlebot]] designs.
*Unicron's transformation sequence, while homaging the Generation 1 version of the sequence, also transforms accurately to the toy.
*Yes, the combined forces of Autobots, Decepticons, and Mini-Cons is what the "Armada" in the title of the series stands for.
*According to ''[[Legends of the Microns Year Book 2003]]'':
**Cyclonus saying that fighting is the only thing makes him feel alive might be one of his few highlights.
**The time during the making of these last episodes were particularly difficult. Everyone was desperate for the final episode to be finished and only such a difficult thing was remembered.
***[[Munetaka Abe]] was busy with animating Starscream's death in "[[Cramp]]", Unicron's transformation in this episode, Overload's robot mode in "[[Union]]", and being the animation director for "[[Mortal Combat]]". When commenting on Unicron's transformation, Abe stated he used quite a bit of motion tweeks so that the animation didn't take too much time to work on. It was hard but he had a lot of fun.
***[[Hidehito Ueda]] was troubled with the storyboards for "[[Portent]]", "[[Union]]", and "[[Mortal Combat]]", while [[Takeshi Sano]] and [[Masami Nagata]] worked as the storyboarder and animation director respectively for "[[Drift (episode)|Drift]]" and "[[Origin]]".
'''A fair is a veritable smorgasbord.'''

==Synopsis==
[[File:Carnival-Heavy Wrench.jpg|left|200px|thumb|Push it. Push it real good.]]
The kids puzzle why the [[Mini-Con]] in the [[Mini-Con storage panel|panel]] recovered from [[Antarctica]] hasn't emerged yet. When [[High Wire (Armada)|High Wire]] tells them it's sleeping, [[Carlos Lopez|Carlos]] tries to think of ways to wake it up. [[Alexis Thi Dang|Alexis]] suggests they let it wake up naturally and do some cleaning while they're waiting. Meanwhile, [[Optimus Prime (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Optimus]] and [[Hot Shot (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Hot Shot]] are watching [[Red Alert (Armada)|Red Alert]] fix equipment. Hot Shot asks [[Rad White|Rad]] and Carlos to pass him a huge spanner, which is, of course, too heavy for them to lift, a clear case of Autobot humor. Hot Shot returns to work, and the kids realize there's not much they can do to help.

[[File:Carnival-Demolishor "tripping".jpg|200px|thumb|This is an accident! I swear!]]
On the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]], [[Demolishor (Armada)|Demolishor]] clumsily gets in [[Megatron (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Megatron]]'s way, earning a reprimand and his fellow Decepticons' ire. He then stumbles through the base hull, causing more damage. Disgusted, Megatron tells him to get lost.

Meanwhile, Rad and Carlos are growing bored. Carlos suggests some fresh air at the science carnival, and the pair sneak out with their Mini-Cons while Alexis and [[Sureshock (Armada)|Sureshock]] are busy at the computer; [[Sparkplug (Armada)|Sparkplug]] spots them leaving. The two kids cruise through the fair, riding on their transformed Mini-Cons, who naturally want to have some fun too, but the kids tell them they can't change in public. Then they overhear some children talking about robots and spot Sparkplug, [[Longarm (Armada)|Longarm]], and [[Jolt (Armada)|Jolt]], who followed them from the base. [[High Wire (Armada)|High Wire]] and [[Grindor (Armada)|Grindor]] transform and join their fellow Mini-Cons, much to Rad and Carlos's dismay, but it seems the crowd is just assuming they're products of the laboratory that set up the fair. Soon, the Mini-Cons are enjoying the carnival, even taking part in a parade.

[[File:Carnival-Minicon March.jpg|left|200px|thumb|You now have the Millenial Fair music from ''Chrono Trigger'' in your head.]]
Also at the carnival are [[Fred (Armada)|Fred]] and [[Billy (Armada)|Billy]]. Fred spots the strange robots following Rad and Carlos around and tells Billy they should check out what's going on. Meanwhile, Rad, nervous at how long the Mini-Cons have been out in public, suggests they return to base. High Wire and Grindor transform to vehicle mode—observed by the spying Fred and Billy, who subsequently become convinced something is going on.

The children at the carnival are upset when Carlos tells them the Mini-Cons are going back to "the lab." Billy and Fred turn up armed with a net and rope to capture one of the robots, which Fred believes are invading aliens, but their quarry escapes while the pair argues. The Mini-Cons scatter through the carnival, causing chaos and confusion.

[[File:Carnival-Salute.jpg|200px|thumb|And knowing is half the battle]]
[[Laserbeak (Armada)|Laserbeak]] leads Alexis, Sureshock, and Hot Shot to the carnival, and Rad and Carlos are soon on the receiving end of a scolding. Fred and Billy have cornered Jolt, but a trio of children prevents them from making the capture. As Billy makes veiled threats, the children run off in fear—but only because Hot Shot is right behind Fred and Billy. The pair hug Jolt in fear, and the Mini-Con transforms to copter mode, carrying them high into the air before they bail onto a hot-air balloon. Rad asks Hot Shot to get the duo down, and the Autobot borrows a tennis ball cannon from one of the sideshows. After using it to burst the balloon, he stunt-jumps, transforming mid-air to catch Fred and Billy and flying them to safety with Jolt's help. The small children who watch him land are incredibly impressed. Rad, Carlos, and Alexis make Fred and Billy swear not to tell anyone what they've seen, and Hot Shot takes the Mini-Cons back to base.

Sometime later, Alexis lectures Rad and Carlos and repeats they should be cleaning. Rad is impressed by the amount of repair work the Autobots have done around the base, including a computer console that lights up at Carlos's touch. As the two boys watch, an image of [[Jetstorm (Armada)|the same Mini-Con]] that's currently lying dormant appears before them. [[Runway (Armada)|Two]] [[Sonar (Armada)|more]] similar robots then join it. The three come together before the image of a [[Star Saber (Armada)|sword]] replaces them, but the picture promptly sputters out and disappears before the boys can get a good look. Neither is sure what it means.
==Notes==
===Differences with ''Legends of the Microns''===
*In ''Armada'', Alexis tells Carlos to remember when he gets awoken by cold water thrown in his face that it was his idea. ''Legends of the Microns'' changes the tone slightly to make Alexis more intimidating as she tells Carlos that he'd enjoy a bucket of cold water poured on his head in the morning while hiding under the covers.
*''Armada'' has Optimus ask Red Alert if he can fix the Trans-Accelerator Unit, and Red Alert says that it'll take a while but will "pay off in the long run." ''Legends of the Microns'' has Optimus explain that many of the ship's parts have been unused since it crashed long ago, and Red says that with some repairs, the unit will meet the base's "minimum requirements."
*Demolishor is only moving the Trans-Accelerator instead of bringing it to Megatron. Also, rather than berating Demolishor for his clumsiness and warning him to stay out of his way, Megatron says Demolishor is too slow to do anything besides combat. Cyclonus and Starscream's teasing quips toward Demolishor change accordingly, as they tease him for being clumsy in ''Armada'' but slow in the Japanese dub.
*Rather than Carlos teasing Rad for taking Alexis too seriously, Carlos says Alexis's words "didn't come from her heart anyway."
*''Legends of the Microns'' reveals the carnival's purpose of celebrating the Cosmoscope Laboratory's founding. The point about Rad having an obligation to attend it is an ''Armada'' addition. His opening monologue states that he ''and'' Carlos forgot about it.
*As the civilians admire Sparkplug, Jolt, and Longarm, a point lost in the ''Armada'' dub is that they think they're robots made for doing household chores. Beforehand, when Rad and Carlos first spot the Mini-Cons, they say each of their names, and the young kids in the crowd say how the Mini-Cons talk is cute.
*As Rad, Carlos, and their Mini-Cons watch the parade, ''Armada'' has Rad call the Mini-Cons show-stealers, and Carlos translates Grindor's beeps as him wanting to take part in it ("go into showbiz"). In ''Legends of the Microns,'' Rad thinks things have gotten out of hand, and Grindor is merely commenting on how the human world is fascinating, to which Rad responds that it's more interesting to Transformers. Rad's sentiment is the same in ''Armada'', but with an additional remark that he thinks the Transformers ''themselves'' are more interesting than the parade.
*In ''Legends of the Microns'', Billy says ''he'' just washed the shirt Fred smears ketchup on; ''Armada'' changes this so that his mom did it.
*Before Billy and Fred decide to follow Rad and Carlos, ''Legends of the Microns'' features an oddly-paced moment where the pair, in complete silence, look off into the distance at... nothing. ''Armada'' tries to compensate for this by adding an extra line for Billy, who says, "I don't see nothin'!" which is undoubtedly ''accurate'' but a bit of {{w|Non sequitur (literary device)|non sequitur}}.
*Rad's reasoning for wanting to return the Mini-Cons to the base in ''Armada'' is because he wants to do it before people start asking questions. He wants to take advantage of how there's no chaos happening and move the Mini-Cons under the radar in ''Legends of the Microns''.
*In ''Legends of the Microns'', when trying to convince the younger kids that the Mini-Cons need to go, the boy tells Carlos he can't understand how they feel because the latter isn't a kid. The kids also accuse Rad of lying about the bots needing sleep because, according to them, "Robots don't need sleep!"
*While confronting Rad and Carlos, Fred says the Mini-Cons are aliens from the future, and Billy is unsure about that theory. Billy calls Fred a loser for believing they're from outer space in ''Armada''.
*In ''Armada'', after Rad, Carlos, and the Mini-Cons make a run for it, Fred suggests that he and Billy go to the hot dog stand. ''Legends of the Microns'' has Fred saying he and Billy ought to give up before Billy gives chase; instead of complaining about needing food and his blood sugar, Fred declares he hates running.
*Billy is silent after Jolt falls out of the popcorn maker in ''Armada'' while announcing finding Jolt in ''Legends of the Microns''.
*''Armada'' has Carlos make a pop culture reference before telling Alexis, the one he says has all the ideas, to think of a way to round up the Mini-Cons. ''Legends of the Microns'' has him ask Alexis what he and Rad are supposed to do since they've already tried everything they could. Rather than strictly ordering the boys around, Alexis is more mellow and polite, stating they should get the Mini-Cons home as a team effort.
*Rather than threatening the kids as he does in ''Armada'', ''Legends of the Microns'' has Fred say something that makes more sense in context. He says even though Jolt hasn't done anything wrong yet, who's to say that he won't in the future and then gives his example of Jolt destroying the world. In ''Armada'', the kids accuse Fred of watching too much TV since, according to them, "Everyone knows that red robots are always the good guys"; in ''Legends of the Microns'', they think it's foolish to believe a cute robot like Jolt could do such an awful thing.
[[File:Carnival-Hot Shot jAm grin.jpg|225px|thumb|Okay, tag! You're it! ''[splat]'']]
*As the panicked Fred tries to bring Billy's attention to Hot Shot crouching behind them in ''Legends of the Microns'', he describes the Autobot as Jolt's "parent." Billy scoffs at the idea, pointing out that that's impossible because robots aren't mammals! ''Armada'' changes this to have Fred refer to Hot Shot as a "giant" robot, with Billy not buying it.
*In ''Legends of the Microns'', Hot Shot playfully threatens Billy and Fred; in ''Armada'', he asks them if he's interrupting anything. In ''Armada'', as Hot Shot reaches toward Jolt, Billy makes an offbeat comment about being allergic to chromium.
*In ''Armada'', Hot Shot says he can't shoot down Billy and Fred's balloon because he can't use his ''ammo''; in ''Legends of the Microns'', he doesn't have a ''gun'' to use.
*When the boy playing with the cannon tells his mother about Hot Shot, his mother asks what he's talking about; ''Armada'' adds lines like him making the TV reference that Carlos made earlier to describe Hot Shot spinning the cannon around his fingers. Then his mother makes a blasé remark about ''believing'' him and tells him to let her wipe his nose.
*The Japanese dub removes instances of the transformation noise added by ''Armada''.
*The bystander who sees the flying Hot Shot is silent during his first scene in ''Legends of the Microns'' but has a few lines in ''Armada'' added as an internal monologue about his therapist being right. When he reappears a moment later with his friend, and they see the Transformers roll past, the friend asks for the therapist's number to work out some "childhood issues." ''Armada'' deliberately replaces the ''Legends of the Microns'' dialogue from this scene, which sees the man's friend think he might've been overworked and drunk, only to think he's also tired and could use a drink himself when he sees the same sight. During the latter scene, ''Legends of the Microns'' reveals the man's name to be [[Sam (Armada)|Sam]].
*Once they're back on the ground, ''Armada'' has Billy suggest that Fred come up with the ideas from now on, but ''Legends of the Microns'' has him say how he thought they were going to die.
*Before leaving with the Mini-Cons, ''Armada'' adds two lines for Hot Shot: first, he tells the kids to stand back so they don't get hurt, and secondly, he says not all bots are created equal. He only tells the kids to stay out of trouble in ''Legends of the Microns''.
*Instead of Rad repeating how Alexis always likes getting the last word in, he says her nagging has increased. The sound effect heard immediately afterward as the scene fades to black is ''Armada''-exclusive.
*In ''Armada'', Rad says he sometimes wishes for a normal life in his ending monologue. In ''Legends of the Microns'', he mentions how he and Carlos couldn't understand the importance of the dormant Mini-Cons' image combining into a sword at the time.

===Animation and technical errors===
*During Rad's opening narration, when Red Alert gives Hot Shot a wrench, the latter's back is partially miscolored for a second before changing to their correct colors in the same shot.
*When Demolishor apologizes for getting in Megatron's way, the Trans-Accelerator he's dropped is colored tan, like part of his legs, instead of grey.
*Demolishor's Decepticon symbol is slightly off-model in the next shot of Megatron telling him off.
*After Megatron scolds Demolishor for making a hole in the base, it looks like part of Starscream's jaw is miscolored like his face and blocking his mouth when he speaks.
*When Rad and Carlos talk to the group of kids, Grindor's skateboard mode is suddenly shorter than Carlos, compared to being as tall as him a few scenes ago.
*The whites of Carlos's eyes often appear and vanish on a whim.
*In the shot of Alexis demanding the boys to get the Mini-Cons back to base, High Wire's outline looks pixelated.

===Continuity notes===
*This episode is the first in the series where the Autobots don't have to find a new Mini-Con or deal with the Decepticons, and the 'Cons appear for only one scene.
*The pile of stuff Alexis orders the boys to clean up is the camping gear they brought into the Autobots' base [[Jungle|previous episode]].
*The Autobots recovered the still-inactive Mini-Con panel from Antarctica in "[[Soldier (episode)|Soldier]]." Rad and Carlos recognize the computer image of [[Jetstorm (Armada)|the Mini-Con within]] from when it appeared above the panel in the same episode.
*Demolishor's clumsiness has now made him the prime target of ridicule and verbal abuse among the Decepticons. Guess no one wants to mess with Starscream now that he has a Mini-Con.
*This episode is the first where any of the Transformers interact with people in a public setting, though most of them are kids.
*Billy and Fred meet the Mini-Cons and Hot Shot for the first time.
*Gadgets and powers:
**Hot Shot shows off the flight capabilities he gains when Powerlinxed with Jolt in robot mode for the first time.

===Continuity errors===
*The ''Armada'' dub swaps Grindor and Sureshock's names for the whole episode—an error that frequently occurs throughout the series, suggesting that some internal documentation switched their names. ''Legends of the Microns'' doesn't have this error.
*While mocking Demolishor, Starscream calls Swindle "Grid," his Japanese name.
*When looking at a map on her laptop, Alexis asks Sureshock if it's coming from "the" Mini-Con. It's unclear whether she means Jetstorm or a new Mini-Con panel, though her later dialogue suggests she means the latter. In ''Legends of the Microns'', Alexis asks if the information has anything to do with the Mini-Con''s''.

===Real-world references===
[[File:Carnival sparkplug and sazae.jpg|225px|thumb]]
*Hot Shot watches {{w|Spaghetti Western}}s.
*When Sparkplug is racing through the funfair, we get a brief glimpse of a young blonde girl eating a fish. Though appearing to be nothing more than a generic crowd filler, ''[[Legends of the Microns Year Book 2003]]'' explains that she's a very involved homage: the title character of the Japanese comic strip, ''{{w|Sazae-san}}'', inspired her appearance but with blond hair. In her mouth, the fish she has is a nod because the strip's main characters' names were from sea creatures and other sea-related concepts. She'd make another Easter egg cameo in the ''[[Kre-O Transformers (comic)|Kre-O]]'' [[manga]] story, "[[Wheeljack's Bizarre Invention! Optimus Power Up!?]]"
*When Carlos asks Alexis if she wants him to "click his [my] heels together three times," he's referring to Dorothy and her {{w|ruby slippers}} in ''{{w|The Wizard of Oz (1939 film)|The Wizard of Oz}}''.
*Billy's "a bot in the hand is worth two in the bush" line is a minor variation of the proverb, "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush."
*Though it sounds weird when Billy says he has a chromium allergy, it's a metal allergy that does exist.

===Trivia===
*The kanji 祝祭 would usually be pronounced as "''shukusai''," while "''oosawagi''" is used for the kanji 大騒ぎ.
*A couple of days have passed since "Soldier."
*[[Cathy Weseluck]] makes a guest appearance in this episode, albeit in a minor role, and this marks her only appearance in ''Transformers'' media.
*This was the last season 1 episode to air in [[Germany]]—the station skipped all following episodes and continued with "[[Remorse]]" the following day. You know, the kids will never notice.
*A small boy wearing Billy's clothes is visible during the shot of the Mini-Cons with the children after both High Wire and Grindor join them; there's even a kid dressed like Alexis in the same shot.
'''The Autobots detect a Mini-Con in the desert, but its panel is hidden away in a strange temple underground...'''

==Synopsis==
[[File:Palace-Minicon Panel.jpg|left|200px|thumb|Arabian Nights]]
After Rad narrates an old tale, the [[Decepticon]]s have arrived in the [[Sahara|Sahara Desert]] to attempt to locate a Mini-Con. [[Demolishor (Armada)|Demolishor]] lays in ambush and fires on a passing helicopter, which turns out to be an indignant [[Cyclonus (Armada)|Cyclonus]], who reports no success in finding the [[Mini-Con]]. After complaining about the ubiquitous sand, Cyclonus takes off again, and the wash from his rotors covers Demolishor with sand. The tank Decepticon is further annoyed when the ground begins falling away.

The Mini-Con alarm also sends the [[Autobot]]s and their three human friends to the desert, where [[Hot Shot (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Hot Shot]] immediately discovers his tires don't get much in the way of traction. They prepare to search the desert on foot, but before they get the chance, Demolishor strikes them. While the kids and their Mini-Cons scatter, the Autobots take cover and attempt to locate the weapons fire source. Hot Shot combines with [[Jolt (Armada)|Jolt]] to try returning fire and almost gets blasted, but [[Optimus Prime (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Optimus]] knocks him out of the way.

[[File:Palace-Exploring.jpg|200px|thumb|Strangers in the night...]]
[[Alexis Thi Dang|Alexis]] spots Demolishor, but before the three kids can execute a diversion, the panicked Decepticon begins sinking into the sand. As [[Rad White|Rad]] shouts a warning, [[Carlos Lopez|Carlos]] also falls into the growing hole, and [[Grindor (Armada)|Grindor]] grabs him. Demolishor calls out to [[Megatron (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Megatron]] while disappearing beneath the sand and, on the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]], [[Starscream (Armada)/Cartoon continuity|Starscream]] reports the SOS to their leader. The kids all begin sinking into the pit too, and Rad releases [[Laserbeak (Armada)|Laserbeak]] to get help.

Meanwhile, the Autobots realize the kids are missing and begin looking for them. They quickly locate Laserbeak in the sand, but their search is interrupted by Megatron, Cyclonus, and Starscream's arrival.

The kids recover to find themselves in a mysterious, ruined ancient palace in a cavern beneath the desert. They explore to find a way out and see the Mini-Con [[Insignia|symbol]] carved into a ceiling. After discussing what it might mean, Alexis, warns the others to watch out for Decepticons, who'll also be hunting for the Mini-Con.

The Autobots and Decepticons fight topside. Megatron enquires what they've done with Demolishor, but Optimus naturally doesn't know.

[[File:Palace-Security Eyes.jpg|left|200px|thumb|Uhmm... Want some Clear Eyes?]]
In the ruin, Carlos sees a glowing eye symbol appearing on the wall and believes he sees things. He joins his friends only to see a couple of dozen glowing red eye symbols floating in the air ahead of them. They find themselves surrounded by terrible metal spider-like creatures. The kids are within a fraction of death, but Demolishor isn't far from them and, hearing their cries, begins breaking through walls to find them. He soon locates the kids and their Mini-Cons, but Demolishor is promptly attacked by the mechanical spiders, unwittingly saving Rad and his friends.

Above ground, the battle continues, and Megatron wonders again where Demolishor is.

[[File:Palace-Reeeeeaaaach!.jpg|200px|thumb|You don't wanna know what's going on below.]]
While Demolishor deals with the spider robots, the kids go farther and arrive in a grand throne room. They stumble on a vast statue-lined chamber; at the end of it is the [[Mini-Con storage panel]] for which they've been searching. After admiring the sight for some time, Carlos steps forward and triggers a trap, and Rad has to save him from a colossal falling boulder. Demolishor appears, having disposed of the mechanical spiders and heads for the Mini-Con panel. As the kids move to stop him, the floor begins caving in, cutting them off from the Decepticon and panel. Demolishor clings to the side, climbing back up and running along the floor as it collapses behind him. The statues begin firing energy pulses at him to add to his troubles. The three Street Action Mini-Cons combine into [[Perceptor (Armada)|Perceptor]] to save Rad and Carlos from another falling boulder. Finally, Demolishor can grab the Mini-Con and begins making for the surface in tank mode.

[[File:Hotshotarmada.jpg|left|thumb]]
Above, the warring Transformers are startled when the ground begins falling away. Demolishor climbs out of the growing pit to report success in obtaining the Mini-Con. As Hot Shot jumps into the hole, Demolishor activates the new Mini-Con, [[Bonecrusher (Armada)|Bonecrusher]], and begins firing on the Autobots. Megatron orders a withdrawal as they've obtained the Mini-Con, and the Decepticons teleport away. Hot Shot soon emerges from the sand carrying Perceptor and the kids.

Back on the Moon, Megatron demands that Demolishor hand over the Mini-Con to him as punishment for disobeying his orders to only stand lookout in the desert. The Decepticon objects, but Megatron forces him to obey. Starscream witnesses the scene, lacking his usual fiendish delight; though he's not a friend of Demolishor, he understands that Megatron treats him unjustly.

"But that isn't fair, sir!"<br>
"Not fair? Why I'll show you what's not fair."<br>
"Well, actually sir, you really don't have to."<br>
"No no no, really, I insist. I said I was going to show you what's not fair and so I shall show you what's not fair. ==Notes==
===Differences with ''Legends of the Microns''===
*There's a ''lot'' of silence in this episode's Japanese version, from un-narrated flashbacks to long pans of desert sands, to characters wandering through hallways and staring into the distance. ''Armada'' is determined to fill as much of it as possible with noise, whether it's the transformation noise; narration from Rad; characters grunting, gasping, growling, laughing under their breath, or making the dreaded "uh?" sound.
*In ''Legends of the Microns'', the desert is never identified as the Sahara. The aesthetics of the flashbacks would instead seem to indicate that it takes place in the {{w|Arabian Desert}}... but given that the jackal statues in the palace seem to be based on the Egyptian god Anubis, it's likely that precise historical accuracy wasn't much of a consideration.
*It's silent until Cyclonus transforms in ''Legends of the Microns''. ''Armada'' adds narration from Rad over the "prologue" segment, talking about the Mini-Con panel's history and the legend surrounding it (the Japanese dub never suggests that it's a known story), then some filler dialogue from Demolishor about "spotting a bogey" (the incoming Cyclonus).
*While ''Armada'' has Cyclonus complaining about the sand (quoted above), he's complaining about being on the job alone and angrily suggests Demolishor should also be searching in ''Legends of the Microns''. Demolishor snaps back that Megatron ordered him to stand lookout, but ''Armada'' turns it into Demolishor demanding that Cyclonus return to work.
*As the kids suit up and the Autobots warp out, the Japanese dub has Carlos give the opening narration, noting that although the kids know it's for a serious matter, it's something they plan on enjoying. ''Armada'' adds short lines to Hot Shot and Red Alert to fill in the Japanese version's silence. ''Legends of the Microns'' plays "[[The Transformers Legends of the Microns: Sound of Evolution Vol. 1|Lets Roll Out, Cybertrons!]]" during the sequence. ''Armada'' has the insert Transformers theme seamlessly flow into the [[Commercial bumper#Armada|opening bumper]], as Carlos laughs annoyingly during the last few seconds before it.
*When Hot Shot gets stuck in the sand upon arrival in the desert, the tone of his exchange with Carlos is a little different between dubs: In ''Armada'', Carlos sarcastically informs him that he'll never get out of the sand in vehicle mode, so Hot Shot transforms, thanking him for the advice. However, in ''Legends of the Microns'', Carlos notes exasperatedly that the kids ''already told'' Hot Shot that he couldn't travel over the sand in vehicle mode, and Hot Shot responds with a sarcastic "Know-it-all" harrumph. Hot Shot's reluctance to take their advice prompts Optimus to make his speech about listening to the kids, who know more about Earth than the Transformers do, making the children their ''sempai'' (mentors).
*After Hot Shot complains about where they should look for the Mini-Con, Red Alert says, "More than likely we ''don't'' know where to look." He talks about setting up a grid system in ''Armada''.
*The Japanese version removes the kids screaming as Demolishor's shots go over the team's heads. Demolishor later says the Autobots took off rather than saying that he missed them.
*In ''Armada'', as the Autobots take cover after Demolishor's opening shots, Red Alert says he doesn't detect any Decepticons, and Hot Shot pointlessly says that they should keep their heads down. ''Legends of the Microns'' removes Red's line, and Hot Shot asks about the shots' origin instead. Then Rad doesn't speak until he turns to the camera in the Japanese dub, and Carlos acknowledges Rad's idea. Carlos quips about "kicking some 'bot butt" in ''Armada''.
*In ''Armada'', Hot Shot guesses Demolishor to be the one shooting at the Autobots, and Optimus tells him to pipe down unless he wants Demolishor to lock on to them. ''Legends of the Microns'' changes this slightly, so the dialogue makes sense as Hot Shot wants the Autobots to attack, but Optimus tells him to stay down instead of keeping quiet.
*''Legends of the Microns'' removes Hot Shot saying, "Holy cow!" when Demolishor fires at him and changes his following line about Demolishor having the Autobots pinned down to "No way we can easily see each other."
*As the kids sneak around to Demolishor's side, Rad's dialogue in ''Legends of the Microns'' suggests they will somehow attack him. Alexis is wary of the kids going ahead, but the eager Carlos says they should go. ''Armada'' changes Rad's lines to the kids suggesting they catch Demolishor's attention with a distraction, and Alexis agrees with Rad instead of being nervous.
*In ''Armada'', Demolishor laughs while shooting at the Autobots and exclaims as the sand gives way beneath him. He is silent during the scene in ''Legends of the Microns''.
*''Legends of the Microns'' changes the tone of Carlos's response to Rad just before he nearly falls into the sandpit from casual to cautious and removes Rad's line about the dune sinking into a pit.
*When Demolishor sinks into the sand, his cry for Megatron to save him is a plea bellowed to the heavens. ''Armada'' reframes it as a literal SOS message he transmits to the Decepticon base, where Starscream informs Megatron of it. In ''Legends of the Microns'', Starscream reports they've "lost contact" with Demolishor, not that they've ''received'' a message.
*Similarly, as the kids sink with Demolishor in ''Legends of the Microns'', Rad calls for Optimus to save them before sending Laserbeak to get him. He addresses Laserbeak instead in ''Armada''. After the sandpit closes, ''Legends of the Microns'' removes some lines added to ''Armada'', like Optimus saying the Autobots should wait to be sure, Hot Shot being sick of waiting, and Prime saying that he has a bad feeling.
*After finding Laserbeak in the sand, ''Armada'' has Optimus asking Hot Shot what's wrong and the latter saying that it doesn't look good; ''Legends of the Microns'' removes these lines and only has Prime referring to Hot Shot. Hot Shot's line about the kids being in trouble is changed in the Japanese dub to him only saying Carlos's name.
*After waking underground, Carlos asks where they are, with his pyramid line removed, and Rad asks the same question after speaking to Alexis.
*When the Decepticons appear, Starscream gives a slightly exaggerated chortle; he's silent like Megatron in the Japanese dub. Optimus says Megatron's name as the shot finishes panning from Starscream to the Decepticon leader; ''Armada'' has Prime say the snarkier, "Megatron, what an unpleasant surprise." Then he declares the Autobots have no choice but to delay searching for the missing humans until later, and Hot Shot (via internal monologue) hopes the kids (''sempai'') will stay safe until then.
*Like the episode's opening, the first minute or so after the mid-episode commercial bumper is silent in ''Legends of the Microns,'' wordlessly continuing the story from the prologue. However, ''Armada'' features a pointless, filler narration from Rad, mainly dedicated to recapping the episode's first half and unrelated to the actual animation.
*As the kids walk through the pyramid, Carlos and Rad are in awe of it in ''Legends of the Microns''. Rad recognizes it as a shrine's base, and Carlos wonders if it was initially built underground. Alexis explains it was likely buried because of the desert's shifting sands like the Sphinx, prompting Carlos to compliment her intelligence as something he'd expect from a future President. ''Armada'' warps this into more irrelevant jargon as Carlos says the place creeps him out and wonders if "mole-like dudes" live in this underground city. Rad says the feeling is mutual and tells Carlos he is a "strange guy" who should use his imagination to "write comic books." Then Alexis chips in by mocking the two "men" for hanging back and being scared while a "woman" takes the lead, resulting in Carlos angrily responding that he isn't scared of anything. What''ever, Armada.'' This trend continues into the following exchange in ''Armada'', where Carlos mocks Alexis for acting like "an archaeologist," delivering his "Harrison Ford" joke before Rad tells him to knock it off. In ''Legends of the Microns'', Carlos only agrees with her again, complimenting her knowledge, and Rad says the Mini-Con may be "happy to be found again."
*In ''Legends of the Microns'', the "shrine" was built to "worship" the Mini-Con panel, but in ''Armada'', the "palace" was made to "honor" the Mini-Con panel. Subtle, but...yeah. Alexis later refers to multiple Decepticons looking for the panel in ''Armada'' but singles out Demolishor since he's underground with them in the Japanese dub.
*After the glowing eye appears on the wall and vanishes, ''Legends of the Microns'' slightly edits Carlos's lines. Carlos says seeing the eye was just his imagination, and he must've been startled. He asks Rad and Alexis if they feel the same, and while the kids see the multiple floating eyes, ''Legends of the Microns'' removes his line of begging Rad and Alexis to tell him that he isn't imagining things. Then ''Legends of the Microns'' extends the children's screaming so that it flows naturally into the scene of Demolishor wondering what he just heard. He asks what's happening while demanding whoever is there to speak up in ''Armada''.
*''Armada'' has Rad state the obvious about the kids now having company before comically resigning himself to his doomed fate. ''Legends of the Microns'' has Rad asking what the spider bots are and saying there're too many of them. The kids are silent as the bot's leg comes down.
*Before leaving Demolishor in ''Armada'', Carlos says to him, "Hope you're not afraid of spiders!" before Demolishor demands the kids return. In ''Legends of the Microns'', Rad says they should use the 'Con's appearance to make a run for it. Then Carlos says, "We'll leave the rest to you from this point on, Ironhide!" and Demolishor tells Carlos not to mock him.
*Cutting back to the fight above-ground, ''Armada'' plays the insert Transformers tune, but ''Legends of the Microns'' plays "Charge!". Megatron asking about Demolishor at the end of the scene is a shout to the heavens in the Japanese dub but is a somewhat average yell in ''Armada''.
*''Armada'' adds even more narration from Rad to the extended scene that slowly pans across the statues and reveals the Mini-Con panel, which is silent in ''Legends of the Microns.'' This time, he describes what the animation is already showing. After Carlos triggers the boobytrap, Alexis asks what's happening instead of expecting more trouble.
*Demolishor comments on how disposing of the spider bots was a handful instead of inquiring about the Mini-Con as he does in ''Armada''.
*When Demolishor passes the children towards the Mini-Con, Carlos tells him to back off before going after him in ''Armada''. Carlos only says, "Not good!" in ''Legends of the Microns''.
*Instead of telling Demolishor to quit "blubbering," Megatron praises the soldier for finding the Mini-Con.
*After Hot Shot asks Demolishor what's happened to the kids, ''Armada'' has him utter perhaps one of his most famous lines (quoted above). In ''Legends of the Microns,'' he merely retorts, "Like I care?!" and returns to extolling the Mini-Con panel's importance.
*When Demolishor opens fire after combining with Bonecrusher, his gun fingers make rapid laser noises in ''Armada''. ''Legends of the Microns'' uses a sound effect closer to a standard machine gun.
*Rather than "getting caught up in all of the excitement" as he does in ''Armada'', Demolishor blames an insufficient targeting adjustment for his aiming.
*Red Alert remembers the kids after the Decepticons retreat in ''Armada''; in ''Legends of the Microns'', he refers to Hot Shot.
*''Armada'' features more narration from Rad in the end. ''Legends of the Microns'' has narration from Carlos. He says the unconscious kids later awoke in their beds back at base; the Autobots were worried about them; they also lost the Mini-Con, so the whole experience was a downer, closing out his initial monologue on a depressing note.
*In ''Armada'', Megatron extends his hand and demands Demolishor to hand over the Mini-Con before calling the latter a "spoiled bot" and demanding the Mini-Con again. Demolishor states being under the impression that the Mini-Con is now his, but Megatron berates him for disobeying a direct order and leaving his post, which is why the Mini-Con is ''his'' now. Demolishor says it's not fair, irritating Megatron, who insists on showing him what's unfair and tells a now-reluctant Demolishor to come closer for "a hands-on demonstration," much to Starscream's delight. In ''Legends of the Microns'', the scene's tone is the same but with slightly different dialogue. Megatron doesn't speak until the shot of him and Demolishor, asking the latter what he's so surprised about before demanding the Mini-Con. Demolishor begins mumbling in protest, but Megatron cuts him off with "No, ifs, ands, or buts!" before telling him off about leaving his post. Then Demolishor answers, "How can this be?" Now aggravated, Megatron asks Demolishor if he's unhappy about something and tells Demolishor to approach him if there is. The now-scared Demolishor tries to back out and tells Megatron he's not upset about anything, but Megatron insists that Demolishor come to him, so Demolishor gives in and complies. Demolishor continues babbling as Megatron laughs during the final shot in ''Armada'', but ''Legends of the Microns'' closes out with only Megatron's laughter.

===Animation and technical errors===
*When Hot Shot calls for Jolt to Powerlinx with him, he refers to him as "Grindor," Carlos's partner Mini-Con. This mistake is ''Armada''-exclusive.
*The shots Demolishor fires at the Autobots right before the sand gives way underneath him are Autobot-red instead of Decepticon-purple.
*Just before Demolishor sinks into the sand, and while he sinks, he strangely sounds like Cyclonus. This mistake happens again when Demolishor laughs after grabbing the Mini-Con panel. He doesn't have Cyclonus's voice in the Japanese dub.
*In the shot of Red Alert, Optimus, and Hot Shot, after finding Laserbeak in the sand, Hot Shot's right leg is miscolored light gray.
*Upon awakening underground, Alexis asks where ''she'' is, as if she's alone when she isn't. ''Legends of the Microns'' changes it so that Alexis realizes she and the others are alive.
*When the Autobots are under fire from Cyclonus, the Autobot insignia on Red Alert's chest is miscolored as a white pentagon with a black outline.
*Alexis tells the boys to look out for any Decepticons since they're also searching for the Mini-Con, and when Rad says, "We'll beat'em," his neutral tone doesn't match his facial expression. ''Legends of the Microns'' has Alexis tell Rad that he's right since ''Demolishor'' is somewhere nearby too, and they have to find the panel before he does. Now more in line with his animation, Rad excitedly says, "Okay, let's go!"
*In the scene where Megatron threatens to "send Optimus to the scrapheap," Megatron's face looks like a jumbled off-model mess.
*When Demolishor bursts through the wall, unwittingly "saving" the kids, Carlos's line about him seems incomplete or cut short as Rad immediately speaks after him abruptly. Carlos says Demolishor "saved" them in the Japanese dub without interruption.
*The outline for Demolishor's right eye is colored tan like his face instead of black before Bonecrusher awakens. It suddenly corrects itself after the Mini-Con appears in the same shot.

===Continuity notes===
*This episode makes Bonecrusher ''technically'' Demolishor's "true" Mini-Con partner in the cartoon. As Megatron is who activated Blackout back in the episode "[[Base]]," this would mean that he is only Demolishor's Mini-Con partner by association.
**However, this doesn't seem to hold up later in the series as Megatron confiscates Bonecrusher from Demolishor at the end of this episode; Blackout is the one Demolishor partners with often, and he even gains the color-changing upgrade later in the series.
**The ''[[Linkage (comic)|Linkage]]'' comics (set in the same continuity as ''Legends of the Microns'') would later establish the "[[Servility Program]]," a program that all Mini-Cons have preinstalled, which bonds them with a Bulk. It's activated by either a Bulk waking them from their panels or when they [[Powerlinx]] with a Bulk. Blackout never once Powerlinx with Demolishor in the cartoon or any supporting fiction, meaning Blackout is ''still'' Megatron's Mini-Con.
**''Legends of the Microns'' shows Demolishor christening the Mini-Con ("Bomb," as he's known in Japan) ''before'' activating his panel and releasing him. It's still unclear at this point if the Mini-Cons already have names that the 'bots learn upon bonding with them or if they're given to them by the 'bots who activate their panels. However, Megatron seemingly recognized Leader-1 by name in "[[Metamorphosis (Armada)|Metamorphosis]]," and referred to Blackout by name ''before'' activating his panel in the Japanese version of "Base."
*This is the first episode to focus on Demolishor.
*The Japanese dub provides some educational content about the desert and how things built above the sand can end up beneath it, much like how "[[Jungle]]" explained illegal logging and global warming.
*''[[Legends of the Microns Year Book 2003]]'' explains that the hidden temple and the fact that it houses a Mini-Con connects directly to "[[Ruin]]," as the later episode explains how and why the pair of vestiges contained the panels more in-depth.
*Going by how the Japanese dub regards the children as the Transformers' ''sempai'', future episodes will show they won't be Hot Shot's only mentors for long.
*Gadgets and powers:
**Blackout sits behind Demolishor's turret; this is the only instance where the cartoon displays this function from the toy.
**Starscream fires lasers from his chest again, but the lasers come from further down this time. His cockpit fins even fold down out of the way of the lasers.
*Powerlinx forms:
**Hot Shot Powerlinx with Jolt in robot mode.
**Demolishor Powerlinx with Bonecrusher for the first time, increasing the strength of his Finger Cannons.

===Continuity errors===
*The Japanese dub sets up the final scene's gag between Demolishor and Megatron early as Demolishor affirms to Cyclonus that his job is to stand lookout via Megatron's orders. However, ''Armada'' changes Demolishor's line to him telling Cyclonus to return to work, doing away with the setup, so the ending between him and Megatron doesn't feel as natural as it does in ''Legends of the Microns''.
*In his brief monologue early on, Carlos explains the alarm sounding means a Mini-Con has been detected, though we already know that. He doesn't say this in ''Legends of the Microns''.
*After the rest of the Decepticons show up, how can Optimus be thinking about delaying finding the Mini-Con when he was troubled about the missing kids only moments before? On top of that, Hot Shot only thinks about how beating the Decepticons will be simple after worrying about the children a while ago, like Optimus. They appropriately think about the kids in the Japanese dub.
*How can Demolishor end up with a spider bot on his back after busting through the wall behind it? It'd make sense if it fell from the ceiling, but the spider bot was already on the floor, so yeah.
*When Demolishor spots the Mini-Con panel, he says, "My own Mini-Con," which is nonsense since he already has one. Demolishor only calls it a panel in ''Legends of the Microns''.
*For some reason, Starscream tells Megatron to move back from the sandpit, but wouldn't Starscream want to do Megatron in for treating him poorly? He apprehensively only notes the sand in ''Legends of the Microns''.
*Rad's ending narration in ''Armada'' is about how the Autobots always care about the children's wellbeing, even in the heat of battle, whether or not they get the Mini-Con, which is bogus since the kids flew solo for most of the episode and the Autobots were busy fighting the Decepticons. Also, why does Rad give the closing monologue when the only kid that any shot during it focuses on is Carlos? ''Legends of the Microns'' corrects these errors as Carlos provides a more fitting narration in the Japanese dub, stating the Autobots were worried about the kids.

===Transformers references===
*[[David Kaye]] managed to fit a nice long "yes" into the last scene, a staple from his [[Megatron (BW)/Beast Wars cartoon continuity|''Beast Wars'' Megatron]].

===Real-world references===
[[File:Palace-Treasure.jpg|200px|thumb|"That belongs in a museum!"]]
*Optimus saying, "I have a bad feeling about this," could be an homage to ''{{w|Star Wars}}'' media as many characters say that line either before something bad happens or something makes matters worse.
*When Carlos worries about "mole-like dudes" in the temple, he references the urban legend about {{w|Mole people}}.
*While joking about archaeology, Carlos refers to [[Harrison Ford]] "swinging out of the wall on a vine," alluding to Ford's famous film character, [[Indiana Jones]].

===Trivia===
*The kanji 神殿 would usually be pronounced as "''shinden''," while "''takara''" is used for the kanji 宝, 財, 貨, 寳, or 寶 (宝 is the most commonly used one).
*This episode is noticeably ''very'' high quality in the animation department, especially compared to the three episodes before it.
*According to ''Legends of the Microns Year Book 2003'', the heart carving above the temple archway mimics the Mini-Con storage panel sigil.
*This episode's Japanese dub reveals the kids have beds in the Autobot base, which the series never shows.
*This episode's English dub possibly has the most narration for any episode in the series: four from Rad and one by Carlos, a total of ''five'', with one part near the middle being almost a ''minute'' long. Perhaps even "[[Rebellion (Armada)|Rebellion]]" doesn't have as much redundant monologuing as this one.
'''A fair is a veritable smorgasbord.'''

==Synopsis==

==Notes==

===Animation and technical errors===

===Continuity notes===

===Continuity errors===

===Real-world references===

===Trivia===
'''Rhino Entertainment''' is an [[United States of America|American]] record label and [[home video]] production and distribution company. Their children's entertainment division is currently known as '''Rhinomation''', having changed its name from '''Kid Rhino''' in 2001.

During the late 1990s and early 2000s, Rhino held the North American video rights to ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]'' and the [[The Transformers (cartoon)|Generation 1 cartoon]]. The movie and a few episodes were first released on VHS, branded as ''[[The Original Transformers]]''. Eventually they were released on DVD for the first time (keeping the same branding) and the movie's soundtrack album was re-released on CD. Rhino likewise issued full DVD boxed-sets for ''[[Beast Wars: Transformers (cartoon)|Beast Wars]]'', ''[[Beast Machines: Transformers (cartoon)|Beast Machines]]'', and ''[[Transformers: Armada (cartoon)|Armada]]''.

In 2002 Rhino remastered the Generation 1 cartoon series for release on DVD, to subsequent controversy. As the original broadcast masters (the tapes used for broadcast) had degraded to an unacceptable level of visual quality over the years, Rhino opted to use pre-broadcast masters that had far superior clarity and picture quality. Unfortunately, as these pre-broadcast tapes used unfinished animation, the episodes included on Rhino's DVDs suffered from animation errors, missing special effects and colouring mistakes that did not occur in the original 1980s broadcasts. The vast majority of these issues affected Season 1 episodes.

Additionally, Rhino contracted post-production studio [[Magno Sound & Video]] to remaster the monaural soundtrack to a 5.1 surround soundtrack worthy of a DVD release. Unfortunately, Magno's engineers added in some 30 tracks of new sound effects to this new soundtrack,<ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20090705004118/http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0HNN/is_10_18/ai_110073878 BNet article from October 2003 "'Transforming' mono cartoons into multi-channel DVDs"]</ref> and once again Rhino's DVDs introduced new elements that were largely seen as undesirable. Rhino representatives rather disingenuously attempted to claim that these sound effects were there all along and that fans had simply been unable to hear them before, despite evidence to the contrary.<ref>[http://groups.google.com/group/alt.toys.transformers/msg/a614b114805c5209 Transformer fan Zobovor explains on ATT how the new sound effects include noises that ''didn't exist'' in 1985.]</ref> The new sounds include abnormally loud and glossy stock sound effects for lasers, explosions, and swooping jets layered across numerous scenes. The show's [[commercial bumper]]s were also altered, with motor, laser, and transforming sound effects added where there had originally been only music and [[Victor Caroli]]'s voice.

Despite several of these errors being corrected in [[Shout! Factory]]'s releases of the series, the Kid Rhino versions of the episodes have continued to be used for streaming sites such as YouTube and [[Tubi]] (though with the audio tracks restored to their original form outside of 1 or 2 episodes).
