Prime cartoon
According to legend, at the beginning of time, Unicron and Primus battled each other for eons, with neither side remaining victorious for long. Till, that is, Primus created the Thirteen. These Thirteen defeated Unicron and cast him into space. One Shall Rise, Part 1
IDW Generation 1 continuity
Onyx Prime was part of the First Cybertronian Civil War between the Thirteen and their respective tribes. During the conflict, he allied with Nexus Prime to create the Headmasters: combiners of beasts and 'humanoid' Transformers.

The death of Nexus spooked most of the Thirteen, including Onyx Prime, into leaving Cybertron. (His tribe continued to fight on in his name, which didn't end well for them.) He resided on another planet, the location of which was later discovered by Shockwave. As with the other Primes, Shockwave sent one of his Regenesis ores to Onyx's hiding place. The Crucible Despite Nexus's death, Onyx knew that Galvatron would be unable to destroy the Enigma of Combination. He knew the relic had been launched to Earth and sent G.B. Blackrock as a sleeper agent to find the artifact and summon the Prime when he had found it. Conquerors Part 3: Helden

According to the inhabitants of the Cybertronian colony world Eukaris, Onyx Prime led the colonization expedition aboard the Metrotitan Chela to create a haven for beastformers, founding the colony Eukaris. By the modern day, "Fateweaver" Blackarachnia had become Onyx Prime's prophet. During the first formal meeting between the Republic of Cybertron and the four tribes of Eukaris, Chela reawoke to execute his master Onyx Prime's final command to protect Eukaris from "standard-formers" by any means necessary. However, Republic High Chancellor Starscream killed Chela, allowing for Cybertron-Eukaris relations to come about. Windblade vol. 2 issue 6

Sometime later, Onyx had created a false Human called Garrison Blackrock to uncover the Enigma of Combination and summon Onyx to Earth. Galvatron however captured Onyx's minion when Blackrock had discovered what he was. Conquerors Part 3: Helden
Fun Publications
Vector Prime noted that both Liege and Onyx utilized female holomatter avatars when interacting with humans. Onyx's avatar inspired the myth of Artemis. Vector Prime also noted that there were universal streams where Onyx went by the name Onyx Convoy. Ask Vector Prime

When Nexus Prime united the Terminus Blade and Star Saber with the intent of thickening the walls between realities to prevent dimensional travel, Onyx Prime and the other members of the "multiversal singularity" incarnation of the Thirteen gathered to witness this momentous event. When Nexus brought the blades together, Onyx and the Thirteen ceased to exist as singularities and were splintered into multiple different incarnations across the multiverse. Out of the One, Many
In the ensuing battle against Primus's archenemy, Amalgamous fought on the front lines as a warrior, and together the Thirteen saw off Unicron. In the age of peace and rebuilding that followed, Amalgamous, Liege Maximo, and Micronus Prime busied themselves with mining and refining Energon, although personality conflicts simmered between the trio and Alpha Trion, Prima, and Vector Prime, who Amalgamous viewed as bossy and controlling.

After the schism that resulted in the deaths of Solus Prime and Liege Maximo and the self-imposed exile of Megatronus, Amalgamous eventually left Cybertron for parts unknown, although legend claims that he returned to Cybertron and founded the Shifters.

After Cybertron's Golden Age, Mercury and her displaced fleet of Neutronian refugees discovered Amalgamous Prime's Transformation Cog near a black hole, and took it on board. Prolonged exposure to the Cog altered their physiologies, giving them the power of unlimited shapeshifting and the ability to combine with one another into many different forms.
Synopsis
With Deathsaurus's Planet-Destroying Fortress active and raining meteors down upon the Earth and Star Saber missing in action, the Multiforce and Rescue Team are left to protect the planet on their own. The Multiforce merge into Landcross to stop a meteor from crashing on top of the Shuttle Base, but are caught in the explosion and badly injured themselves. As the Rescue Team hurry to and fro tending to the wounded, the injured Goryu comes to in the medical bay and requests an audience with any Autobot. Jean comes to his side, and Goryu gives him the plans to the power source of Deathsaurus's fortress as a means of paying back the Decepticon leader for abandoning them. With all the other Autobots occupied, Jean realizes that he is the only one who can perform this task, but as he boards the Galaxy Shuttle with the Illumina II, Holi spots him and follows him aboard. Jean explains his plan to Holi, and the pair resolve to see it through to the end.

Out in space, Deathsaurus's fortress looms ever nearer to the Earth, and at the villain's instruction, Liokaiser initiates its transformation into its even-more-powerful Destroyer Mode. As the fortress shifts and changes, the inert form of Victory Saber, lying atop its hull where he crash-landed, is jarred back into the waking world. Realization dawns upon the horrified Victory Saber that Deathsaurus plans to eliminate the Earth with one shot of the fortress's main cannon, and he flies into action once more, attempting to destroy the cannon. Although his blasts have no effect, Deathsaurus dispatches Liokaiser to occupy Victory Saber as the minutes tick by until the cannon fully charges. Jean and Holi arrive just as the two combatants clash, and Star Saber disconnects from Victory Leo, leaving him to fight Liokaiser while Star Saber covers his son's entrance into the fortress. Victory Leo and Liokaiser's battle is a brutal one, but in the end, the Autobot succeeds in blasting the combiner into the fortress's cannon barrel, which, still charging, drains his energy dry. With his consciousness fading and his body unable to move, Liokaiser can only utter a fading scream for help as he drifts off into the depths of space.

Meanwhile, Jean successfully pilots the Illumina II into the heart of the fortress, where he wires his vessel to explode and take out the power core. Ejecting from the mech, Jean beats a retreat in his spacesuit, and the Illumina II goes up in flames just seconds before Deathsaurus fires his cannon. As the power core is torn to pieces, the fortress's weapons deactivate, and Star Saber swoops into the fortress to find Jean. Before he can locate his son, however, he is confronted by the enraged Deathsaurus himself, and the two leaders engage in a ferocious final battle that stretches across the fortress. Every weapon in the two warriors' arsenals is unleashed until Star Saber blasts out one of Deathsaurus's eyes with his head-cannons, then takes advantage of the villain's hampered sight to stab him through the chest and break his sword off in the wound. Deathsaurus rips out the blade but collapses, gushing oil.

Victory Leo and Holi venture inside the fortress to search for Jean and come across the boy just as he wakes up from a nightmare vision of Illumina dying in the fortress's attack on Earth. Holi takes Jean to safety outside as Victory Leo heads off to look for Star Saber, but just as the young pair exit the fortress, a huge door slams shut behind them. The same occurs all throughout the fortress, trapping Star Saber in the control room, where Deathsaurus communicates with him through a holographic projection. Refusing to lose, Deathsaurus has set the fortress on a collision course with Earth, intending to destroy the
planet and Star Saber with it! Deathsaurus, however, will not accept defeat, and blows himself out of an airlock...but as his shattered body floats off through space, the light dims from his eyes, and no signs of life remain in the body of the once-great Emperor of Destruction.

In the control room, Star Saber desperately opens fire on the door, but cannot break through. Victory Leo and Jean contact him over his communicator, and Victory Leo is able to home in on his position and break into the room through the glass viewscreen. Now knowing that Jean is safely out of the fortress, Star Saber resolves to destroy it even at the cost of his own life, and Victory Leo agrees. The pair merge into jet-mode Victory Saber, and with their enhanced power, smash through the walls of the fortress, unleashing an unbelievable stream of missiles, bombs, cannons, lasers, machine guns and more, tearing the deadly craft apart from within. Bursting through the hull and out into space, the duo disconnect and recombine as robot-mode Victory Saber, concentrating all their energy for one final charge at the fortress's main cannon. Blazing with flaming energy, Victory Saber crashes into the fortress's cannon and releases all his power, vanishing in a burst of light as he finally destroys the fortress in a silent cosmic firestorm.

Down on the surface of the Earth, the flare of light from the fortress's destruction catches the attention of Illumina, who stands amongst a group of injured refugees. As they all watch the sky, Galaxy Shuttle descends, and a short time later, Illumina and Jean have a happy reunion. As she praises him for his heroic deed, Jean tells her that he did it to save her. Holi chimes in that really, it was to save the Earth, but as the Shuttle Base comes rolling over the horizon, the disembodied voice of Star Saber wistfully declares that striving to save the ones you love is the emotion that will truly save the world.

Time passes...

With the Earth saved, Jean reports on the fates of all their allies. The Brainmasters are appointed commanders of the Sector One defense force. The Multiforce are assigned to the Vega Sector and collectively promoted to governor. The Rescue Team have returned to planet Micro. Greatshot returned to being a mercenary and has not been seen since the Silvart War, but Jean is sure he's okay. Goryu has become a construction foreman on Earth, with most of the Dinoforce working with him—except for Kakuryu, who has started working at an amusement park and is very popular with the children there. Jean himself is in the next grade at school and is still in the same class as Illumina.

But...what of Star Saber...?

Why, he's more active than ever as Supreme Commander of the Autobots!

Notes
Lost in translation
Among the changes made by the Omni Productions dub:
* Machtackle suggests destroying the incoming meteor instead of moving Shuttle Base.
* According to Jean's voiceover at the end, Landcross is now in charge of training new recruits, and Greatshot has returned to his duties on planet Micro—the image of devastation is left unexplained. The Dinoforce are in charge of garbage collection instead of construction.

Animation and technical errors
* A switch Jean flicks lights up a display reading "Autocluse".
* As Deathsaurus is drifting into space, his Decepticon symbol is misdrawn.

Continuity errors
*Tigerbreast and Eaglebreast appeared to be disabled by Star Saber's "Psycho Missiles", but a brief moment later, Deathsaurus was wearing them again as a breastplate.
*Deathsaurus appeared to be dead at the end and yet he didn't turn grey. Much like another time

Transformers references
* Deathsaurus's fortress was reactivated and the Brainmasters and Victory Saber were injured in the previous episode.

* The Dinoforce were abandoned on Earth by Deathsaurus in "The Terror of the Giant Tidal Waves".

Real world references
* When Deathsaurus engages Star Saber within the fortress, he accuses Star Saber of "entering my castle with your shoes on," referring, of course, to the Japanese custom of taking one's shoes off upon entering someone's home.

Trivia
* Although this episode is the final installment of the ongoing Victory storyline, it is not the final episode of the series. One further clip show was aired the following week as the final broadcast episode of the series, and a further six were released directly to video.
* It seems like Liokaiser should have known to avoid contact with the space fortress's cannon barrel, but no, he makes no attempt to avoid it.
* Deathsaurus is noticeably leaking dark fluids from his eye and body towards his final astro-minutes, suggesting bleeding out.
* For the first time since the first installment of the series, this episode does not feature a preview of its content before the title card, instead including the first half-minute of the story.
It's BlackZarak versus God Ginrai—the power of evil against the power of man, and the winner will decide the fate of Earth!

Synopsis
At the peak of the Matterhorn, Ginrai and the fused BlackZarak/Devil Z entity prepare to face off against each other in their final battle. BlackZarak inquires if the Autobot leader plans to fight him alone, and Ginrai responds with a barrage of laser fire, which BlackZarak shrugs off. The villain transforms to scorpion mode and takes to the air, but Ginrai pursues him and seizes him by the tail. BlackZarak roars that he does not have time to waste on Ginrai, freely divulging his plan—he has placed an amplifier for his Devil Power at the South Pole, which will allow him to eliminate humanity in the blink of an eye. The furious Ginrai attempts to drag BlackZarak back down to the mountain's peak, and he calls out for Overlord and the Darkwings brothers to aid him. Help is not forthcoming, but Ginrai still manages to rip off BlackZarak's cannons and tricks the villain into blasting himself with his own tail weapon. Damaged, BlackZarak begins to lose altitude, and Ginrai uses his own jets to steer the Decepticon into the mountainside. At the last second, however, BlackZarak throws off Ginrai and collapses part of the mountain, burying Ginrai in an avalanche.

Elsewhere on the mountain, the other Autobots and Decepticons are recovering from their injuries. While Minerva tends to the wounds Metalhawk received during his battle with King Poseidon in one location, in another spot, Hydra and Buster finally recover consciousness after the beating administered to them by BlackZarak. While Buster is still trying to wrap his mind around what happened, Hydra simply writes it off as punishment for weakness and proof that they must fight even harder. The chance for such a fight immediately arrives in the form of the Autobot Godmasters, and even though the two weakened Decepticons practically collapse after only a few shots are exchanged, they continue to draw out the fight. Lightfoot questions his tactics, however the Godmaster brothers still fight.

Some miles away, Clouder has supplied Cancer, Wilder and Bullhorn with a heavily armed buggy so that they can participate in the battle on the Matterhorn. As the quartet head towards the Alps, Wilder chooses to remind everyone that he has definitely not joined the Autobots, but the protest has grown so stale that Cancer laughs it off, much to Wilder's annoyance. Wilder then tells them to hold on and they floor it around the mountain.

Back on the Matterhorn, BlackZarak is in mid-gloat when Ginrai comes bursting out of the ice and snow and stomps his opponent into the rock face. BlackZarak transforms back into robot mode and unleashes the "Devil Thunder Ring", encircling Ginrai with Devil Power with the intent of removing his humanity and transforming him into a true robot, just as he did with Hydra and Buster. As Ginrai fights the effect. At the bottom of the mountain, Grand Maximus, Shuta and Cab prepare to launch to assist Ginrai. Metalhawk volunteers to go to but Grand and Minerva convince him to stay behind because of his injuries. BlackZarak still using his Devil Thunder Ring tries to destroy Ginrai's humanity but Grand and the Headmaster Juniors arrive. They help by firing Maximus's cannon which throws off BlackZarak's focus long enough for Ginrai to escape his Devil Power and take the fight up close. With a mighty swing and a flare of incandescent energy, Ginrai punches BlackZarak's head clean off his shoulders, and the decapitated Decepticon crashes into the mountain. Shūta cheers for his commander as BlackZarak's severed head lands alongside his body and explodes, but Grand silences him... because something is happening! BlackZarak's twitching, headless body rises up out of its crater, and as the shocked Autobots watch, it begins to transform into a new form!

At the base of the mountain, Mega and Giga stand by their transtectors and debate on what to do next. Realizing that they have been misled by Devil Z, who has placed his hatred of human beings above even their comradeship, they know they can no longer serve him...and they now also owe Ginrai a debt of honor for saving them from Z's wrath. They are not the only Decepticons to reach a decision at this point, either—Hydra and Buster have reached the end of their strength and combine into Darkwings to flee their battle with the Autobot Godmasters.

Meanwhile, far above, BlackZarak's new form now stands revealed: a twisted, two-headed serpent, which launches energy blasts at God Ginrai from its mouths and swats him out of the sky with its tail. As the battle rages, Overlord appears overhead, and BlackZarak offers him a chance to redeem himself, but the Ambassador of Destruction opens fire on BlackZarak instead. Infuriated, BlackZarak vows to show Overlord what happens to traitors and envelops him in a beam of Devil Power. Crying in pain, Overlord's last act is to tell Ginrai to ensure that BlackZarak does not live, before Giga and Mega are suddenly ejected from the sphere of Devil Power. Shocked at what they are seeing, Ginrai and Grand Maximus are distracted enough to be blasted out of the sky by BlackZarak, just as the cocoon of Devil Power recedes and the Overlord transtector emerges...now a truly living super-robot lifeform itself, brought to life by the power of Devil Z! Giga murmurs that he wishes they could have settled their rivalry with Ginrai honourably, and with that, he and Mega die and their Master-Braces vanish from their wrists. Burning with righteous anger and Chōkon Power, Ginrai rises, and Shūta, Cab and Minerva all feel the energy of their commander. In a flash of light, the three children find themselves in God Ginrai's chest cockpit, ready to fight alongside their leader as the defining moment of the battle draws nearer. Overlord lunges for Ginrai, but Grand Maximus transforms to robot mode and tackles him. BlackZarak orders Wilder, Cancer and Bullhorn's now-living transtectors to attack Ginrai instead, but the Godmasters arrive just in time to handle them, leaving Ginrai to face off against BlackZarak. God Fire Guts and Devil Power collide in a mighty explosion, hurling Ginrai back and leaving Devil Z simply laughing from within BlackZarak's body. He announces to Ginrai that the Autobot's very existence—the existence of all the Godmasters—is as a result of his machinations, and to him, they are nothing more than tools that will never be able to defeat their maker. Ginrai refutes this, declaring that Devil Z has long underestimated the strength of humans and the limitless possibilities that exist within mankind, and that is why he shall never defeat them. Exploding into flame once more, Ginrai activates the God Fire Guts and dives at BlackZarak, driving hard against a beam of Devil Power. Fighting with all his strength, Ginrai overpowers the beam and crashes into and through BlackZarak, whose body finally explodes into fragments, exposing the glowing orb of Devil Z. As the villain rages impotently, Ginrai and the Headmaster Juniors unite every drop of their Chōkon Power for one last, mighty attack: the FINAL FIRE GUTS! Burning with the passion and strength of his fellow humans and Autobots, Ginrai dives like a flaming spear into the heart of Devil Z, who screams and explodes in a coruscating wave of light and darkness.

As the blast dies out, the skies clear and Ginrai fades back into view, and the Decepticons battling below stop and gape, unable to comprehend what has occurred. Overlord is the first to take action...and that action is retreat. With their leader lost, the Decepticons immediately take to the air and head for space. Ginrai comes floating down out of the sky and lands in front his troops, but the surprises are not yet through, as all of the Godmasters and Headmaster Juniors suddenly glow with blinding light. When the light fades, seven ordinary human beings are left standing on the snowy ground, and Minerva is the first to realize that their Master-Braces have vanished. It is Road King who then makes the next discovery: A short distance away, their transtectors are standing in robot mode! Ginrai's transtector looks down at the humans assembled before it, and thanks them for all they have done. It is then that Ginrai realizes what has happened—with Devil Z's death, the link that he created between the humans and their Transtectors has been broken. But now, their transtectors live on, having become true super-robot lifeforms themselves, and it is their duty to pursue the fleeing Decepticons back into space. As goodbyes are said, Cancer and company roll up the mountain in their buggy, all weapons firing, just a little bit too late to do any good. As everyone watches and waves, the Godmasters and Headmaster Juniors board Grand Maximus and blast off for space. As the narrator says, Ginrai's long battle with the Decepticons is over at last, but throughout it all, he has been supported by his friends, his fellow humans, and the beauty and peace of planet Earth.
Notes
Animation and technical errors
*In the first shot after the title card, BlackZarak is absolutely towering over God Ginrai. In the past, he's not been much more than a head taller than him.

Continuity errors
*Having not appeared in the previous episode, and having been absent for two-thirds of this one, Cancer, Wilder, and Bullhorn's transtectors are suddenly among the Decepticon ranks in the third act. The Doubleclouder transtector is still missing, however, and is not seen among the Decepticons flying into space at the episode's close.
*This episode explains that Devil Z was responsible for forging the link between the Godmasters and their transtectors. This makes sense; the Godmasters' transtectors were not originally intended to be bonded with humans, so it had to be someone else's doing, and the fact that the death of Devil Z in this episode causes this link to be severed makes it clear that he's not lying about it. However, Shūta, Minerva and Cab are also separated from their transtectors, and this doesn't make sense, because Devil Z had no hand in their combination.
*Grand Maximus carries the Godmasters and Headmaster Juniors into space at the end of this episode, which is inconsistent with how he has been presented in the rest of the series. Whereas his big brother, Fortress Maximus, was large enough to transport Transformers around, Grand's battleship has been consistently depicted as being scaled for transporting humans around (consequently, he only transforms into a robot as tall as God Ginrai, instead of a towering giant like his sibling). But here, he is boarded by Transformers. Oops. However, this may not be an issue as Grand Maximus was able to carry 4 headmasters and 4 godmasters along with their transtectors in The Ultimate Combination!! BlackZarak, the New Lifeform. It does however pose the question of how Grand Maximus was able to transport God Ginrai (since he always traveled under his own power due to his size)...

Continuity notes
*BlackZarak has been decapitated before, back in "God Ginrai - Showdown on the Surface of the Moon".
*Cancer, Wilder, and Bullhorn (and Clouder) had their transtectors brought to life in "Autobots! Desperate Attack!!"
Trivia
*The insert songs "Susume! Chōjin Masterforce" and "WE BELIEVE TOMORROW" are reprised for this episode, the former in instrumental form.
*BlackZarak's serpent mode, like Sixshot's "Wingwolf" mode and Overlord's "space jet" mode before it, was created by the production staff of the animated series by tinkering around with the toy. (Specifically, they beheaded the scorpion mode, turned it belly-forward, and used the claws for twin dragon heads.) In comparison to those other two characters, though, this mode was streamlined to a greater degree for animation (such as completely omitting the scorpion legs), so the actual toy doesn't look nearly as good if transformed to match it.
*Metalhawk (and presumably the other Autobot Pretenders too) remains behind on Earth. Presumably, that's because someone still needs to hunt down the Decepticon Pretenders and the Seacons, who last appeared (chronologically speaking) in the previous episode, and whose fates are left unrevealed.
*While this episode marks the end of the Super-God Masterforce story, it is not the end of the series. For the video release of the show, five clip episodes were created, and the final one of these, "You Too Use the Masterforce to Transform", was aired as the forty-third and final episode of the broadcast series.
*Every Autobot Pretender apart from Metalhawk has been missing for four episodes. Grand Maximus finally elaborates on where they have been in this episode, telling us they have been tending to disasters around the world.
Predaking reveals his secret, causing the Decepticons to question the wisdom of their cloning project.

Synopsis
While a storm rages, Megatron and Starscream fly down from the Nemesis to the entrance of a mine. This feeling "uncomfortably familiar" to Starscream, he reluctantly follows Megatron inside and immediately begins playing down his "latest indiscretion". Megatron furiously reminds Starscream that his actions cost them the entire Insecticon hive and a great deal of their regular troops, prompting Starscream to beg for his life. Megatron sighs wearily and proceeds deeper into the mine, which Starscream finally realizes is Shockwave's off-site laboratory. The lab contains dozens of cloning tanks, each with a Predacon floating motionless within. Shockwave reports that the clones have almost fully evolved, and will be combat-ready in three solar cycles.

On Megatron's order, Knock Out travels down from the ship in a lift while the Predacon watches intently. Arriving in the cave, Knock Out presents his synthetic energon, which Shockwave states he will examine after the deployment of the Predacon army. They are interrupted by the Predacon, who emerges from the shadows with a roar. Starscream hits it with a pipe, and the beast responds by transforming into robot mode and threatening some physical violence in return. Starscream and Megatron are both shocked by this, but Shockwave notes that transformation is a fundamental part of Cybertronian biology; they simply had no way of knowing the Predacons ever reached that evolutionary stage before becoming extinct in the Great Cataclysm. The Predacon stares at his brethren in the tanks and says he will no longer be alone. He apologizes to Megatron for keeping his abilities a secret, claiming he only became aware of them recently. He says he has no memories prior to arriving on Earth, and learned what he was from the databanks of the Nemesis. Megatron tells him he is unique, a miracle of science. The Predacon looks back at the clone tanks and regards them in silence.

At their base, the Autobots are chafing under Ultra Magnus' command. He pressures Ratchet to finish his synthetic energon experiments, chides the Beast Hunters for taking a breather between scouting missions, and demands to know what the returning Wheeljack was doing outside the base. The Wrecker surprises him by revealing that he's been recalibrating the engines on Ultra Magnus's ship to increase their efficiency. Optimus Prime returns from his reconnaissance mission and the Autobots flock to him, happy to turn their attention from Ultra Magnus. Optimus sees this with a note of sadness.

Aboard the Nemesis, the Predacon pledges his loyalty to Megatron and requests to be put in command of the clone army, taking the name Predaking. Megatron conceals his wariness of the former beast's newfound ambition.

Alone with his command staff, Megatron voices his concern that Predaking and the Predacon army can and will turn on them. The only thing they can do to prevent it is destroy the clones. Shockwave agrees, but Knock Out asks what will happen if Predaking finds out. Starscream, no stranger to treachery, suggests that the Autobots be used to do the deed, and thus draw Predaking's wrath.

Ultra Magnus is watching human soldiers run drills outside the base when Optimus Prime asks what's troubling him. Magnus has finally realized that Team Prime isn't taking to his command style. Optimus reminds his old friend that they're not the Elite Guard, and have in fact grown into something greater than an army. Before he can say what that is, Ratchet announces that their scanners have located exposed energon. Optimus declares that they must investigate, due to their own short supply.

A squadron of Vehicons are standing vigil outside an energon mine when Optimus and the Wreckers appear and order them to surrender. The Vehicons open fire, but are quickly cut down by the Wreckers' forward advance and the Stealth Team (Arcee, Bumblebee, and Smokescreen) attacking from the rear. Optimus orders the Wreckers to reconnoiter the mine while the Stealth Team transports their energon spoils back to the base. Joined by an eager Smokescreen, the Wreckers investigate the supposed energon mine, growing suspicious about the lack of energon signals or additional security. Ultra Magnus orders them to split up, with he and Wheeljack going in one direction and Smokescreen and Bulkhead in the other.

Ultra Magnus and Wheeljack come across Shockwave's laboratory and the rows of cloning tanks. Shockwave is working at a computer console when he notices them, opening fire briefly before contacting Starscream. Starscream says he didn't reveal that his plan was already in motion, just so that Shockwave's surprised reaction would be genuine. Starscream terminates the link. Knock Out knows exactly why Starscream staged his plan this way, and received a less than subtle confirmation. Shockwave contacts Soundwave to open a GroundBridge. Before fleeing, Shockwave triggers an electrical surge that travels through the cloning tanks, causing the liquid which keeps the beasts in stasis to drain out.

On the Nemesis, Starscream reports that the Autobots have taken possession of the Predacon clones. Megatron orders him to scramble his seeker armada, but Predaking says that he alone will confront the enemy that threatens his brethren.

Dozens of Predacons begin to stir as the stasis fluids drains from their tanks. Wheeljack notices a cache of synthetic energon in the corner of the room and, with Ultra Magnus' blessing, tosses a grenade at it. The Autobots transform and drive away at high speed, but come to a stop as Predaking, in robot mode, GroundBridges right in front of them much to their surprise. Ultra Magnus, seeing the symbol on Predaking's chest, identifies him. Just then, the laboratory behind them explodes in a massive fireball.

On the surface, Bulkhead and Smokescreen emerge from the mine just as the ground is shaken by the explosion. Optimus Prime stares at the mine with a grave expression.

Predaking, meanwhile, stares in horror at the charred remains of Shockwave's lab. With a roar, he attacks the two Autobots, his powerful blows sending them flying through the air. Wheeljack mounts a brief and successful counterattack, but Predaking quickly regains the upper hand, until Ultra Magnus lays into him with the Forge of Solus Prime. Magnus and his hammer buy Wheeljack time to recover, and the two Autobots launch a powerful combined attack that ends when they bring a colossal stalactite crashing down on the Predacon. But Predaking merely lifts the stalactite off him and uses it as a weapon to knock Ultra Magnus to the ground and crush Wheeljack against a wall. Magnus reaches for the Forge, but Predaking jumps up and lands on his hand, smashing it underfoot until the Autobot's fingers are nothing but ruined scrap flattened into the ground. Wheeljack laments that he was just starting to tolerate his commander, and Ultra Magnus responds by saying it was an honor to serve with him. Predaking snaps the Forge in half. He makes ready for the killing blow when Optimus Prime flies in and sends the Predacon sprawling. Optimus unleashes his gatling gun on the cave ceiling, raining rubble down on Predaking and allowing him to grab his wounded comrades. Optimus flies them out of the mine with Predaking in close pursuit, and is able to make it through a GroundBridge before a blast of flame makes contact. Predaking roars in rage.

Ultra Magnus comes back online to find himself on Ratchet's operating table while the medic cauterizes the jagged stump of metal that remains of his hand. The other Autobots are gathered around, with Wheeljack musing that Magnus fought like a Wrecker. Ultra Magnus asks Optimus what he was referring to earlier that could be greater than an army. Optimus says that it is a human concept called family.
On the Nemesis, Starscream and Knock Out can barely stifle their amusement as Megatron promises Predaking that they will make the Autobots pay for what they've done. From his lab, Shockwave confirms that the clones are beyond salvaging, but says that there's something in the ruins Megatron must see. Megatron and Starscream GroundBridge down to it and are stunned to find a large quantity of pure Cyber Matter, like that which once existed on ancient Cybertron, and which more recently created the Decepticon citadel. Shockwave theorizes that it was created when the explosion mixed the CNA of the Predacon clones with Knock Out's synthetic energon.
Notes
Errors
* Shockwave said that the Predacon clones would have fully evolved within a few solar cycles. Given he's simply cloning them, "matured" or "grown" would have been more appropriate. But then again, Shockwave's choice of diction has been odd at times.
* When Optimus smashes Predaking away just before the latter could end Ultra Magnus' life, his jetpack is active and running. As he watches his target slam against the wall, his boosters and jetpack just fold away without the usual set of clicks and clanks.

Continuity notes
* Starscream's reluctance to follow Megatron into another abandoned mine calls back to "Rock Bottom".
* The experiment Starscream apologizes for, which resulted in the loss of the Insecticons, happened in "Thirst".
* Shockwave's off-site laboratory was first mentioned in "Chain of Command".
* Knock Out's synthetic energon is derived from Ratchet's formula, which Knock Out obtained in "Stronger, Faster". He was ordered to turn over his research on the subject to Shockwave in the previous episode.
* Ultra Magnus questions Ratchet on his progress into the synthetic energon formula. Ratchet began working on his own formula again in "Project Predacon."
* Wheeljack asks Ultra Magnus for permission to employ a grenade in a confined space, a tactic for which he was reprimanded in "Chain of Command".
* Megatron's citadel Darkmount was created by the Omega Lock in "Darkest Hour".

Transformers references
* Ultra Magnus was one of the Elite Guard during the war for Cybertron.
* Starscream refers to an evolution that will become a revolution. "Evolution Revolution" was a teaser theme used for Beast Machines.
* Wheeljack shows a high mechanical aptitude by increasing the output of Ultra Magnus' ship's engines. We have yet to see if the engines work as efficiently as he said.

Trivia
* This is an episode of firsts for Predaking: it's the first time he transforms, the first time he speaks, and the first time his name is used.
* While grouping Bulkhead, Ultra Magnus, and Wheeljack together as Wreckers is nothing new, Optimus has named his remaining usual field units (Arcee, Bumblebee, and Smokescreen) as the Stealth Team.
* We learn that the original Predacons of Cybertron faced a similar apocalyptic wipeout to that of the dinosaurs of Earth, further reinforcing the parallels drawn between the two.
* Like Arcee, Predaking undergoes a dramatic amount of mass-shifting when transforming, but in reverse. He goes from a colossal monster that Megatron can barely look in the chest, to being a beefy robot, taller than Megatron but not by much.
