Blackout is a monstrous brute of titanic proportions, larger than any other Decepticon. Few have survived an encounter with this hulking behemoth and lived to tell the tale, but those who have survived have added his story to Decepticon lore, which tells of him single-handedly obliterating vast numbers of Omega Sentinels, before finally falling himself at the Great War's end.

His feet are equipped with seismic energy dischargers, reverse-engineered from an oddly-misplaced Cybertronian named Crasher, which allow him to force nearby electronics to shut down with a single stomp.

And we're not kidding, he can destroy Omega Sentinels well. Real well.
During the Great War, the Wreckers were a major problem for the Decepticons, operating behind their lines as a commando unit. Megatron created the Decepticon Heavy Brigade, of whom Blackout was a member, specifically to hunt down the Wreckers. When they finally met in battle, the Wreckers were all destroyed (including their vessel, Zeta Supreme), and Blackout was the only survivor on the Decepticon side. He continues to wear the Brigade's symbol on his shoulders, partly to honor the fallen, and partly to announce that he's a Heavy Brigade all by himself.

Later in the war, on Velocitron, he destroyed Delta Supreme, who had been rebuilt into an artillery platform. During the climax of the war in the Battle for Iacon, Blackout destroyed Beta Supreme and Eta Supreme. Beta Supreme managed to inflict catastrophic injuries on Blackout, however, and he took hundreds of cycles to repair. Transformers Animated: The AllSpark Almanac II
Blackout, along with the other members of Team Chaar, assaulted a space bridge in an attempt to capture it and conquer Cybertron. During the battle, he descended from above, sending Rodimus Prime flying and disabling the Space Bridge with a massive shock wave. After being berated by Strika for his mistake, he apologized and reactivated the Space Bridge with another shock wave. Later, he retreated from the looming battle against the Cybertron Elite Guard under the orders of Megatron and Strika. TransWarped
As Optimus Prime and Blackarachnia found themselves engaged in a rare tender moment, Blackout unwittingly ruined it by knocking the top of a skyscraper off in helicopter mode (burying Prime in the rubble). Annoyed, Blackarachnia asked what he was doing there and Blackout explained that he was being pursued by two tenacious Autobots: Jetfire and Jetstorm. Blackout attempted to strike the twins with a buzzsaw, but they dodged his attack and swooped in for close-quarters combat. Blackout was unable to defend himself against the two small, quick Autobots, thanks to his unwieldy bulk. The twins then combined into Safeguard and fought the Decepticon bruiser-to-bruiser. Blackarachnia and Lugnut abandoned Blackout to face the Autobots alone, realizing that the battle had become too hazardous. The Cool Episode 4
Having escaped The Elite Guard, Blackout later rejoined Team Chaar in space, secretly observing Team Athenia's battle against a Rock Lord. The Cool Extra issue 2
: Released only in the third wave of TakaraTomy's Animated toyline, Blackout transforms into the Earth-based helicopter form Blackout would have taken if Season 4 had been greenlit, rather than the beetle-like airship he appears as in "TransWarped." During transformation to robot mode, connecting his pelvis into his torso automatically spring-releases the turbine fan behind his head. The instructions neglect to show that the over-the-shoulders missile rack can be folded back in robot mode, although it is shown on the packaging and in the picture here on the right. His tail-rotor assembly features a pressure-launched disc shooter, firing his rear rotor-blade; this entire assembly can be snapped into place over either of his wrists in robot mode.

: He has a similar issue to Lugnut and Bulkhead's Voyager toys where, despite having a lot of mass to work with, it mostly goes into his width, kibble, and weapons, resulting in him being unusually short and squat (shorter than many Deluxe toys!).

: Though he was developed with a Hasbro release in mind, that release was ultimately canceled. Thanks to this new exclusivity, Takara's Blackout tends to go for hefty sums, even compared to the generally-high aftermarket prices of Japanese Animated toys (and really, Animated toys in general).

: Based on test-shots, the Hasbro version would have had different deco on the eyes, and the usual differences between how the two companies handled the faction symbols (aka, Hasbro would have done his in un-outlined gold). ==Synopsis==

Huxley Prescott reports from Griffin Rock Zoo where the cross-eyed lion is celebrating his 25th birthday. Prescott relates the story of how the orphaned lion was raised by a human family and later given a home at the zoo. At the fire house, Boulder and Cody head off to attend the birthday party, however "Whiskers", the lion, fails to put in an appearance. Prescott announces that the lion must be loose, and in the ensuing panic, he falls into the alligator enclosure. Fortunately Boulder is able to fish him out before he gets eaten.

Cody and Boulder return to the fire house, where Cody and Chief review the security footage from the zoo. As it turns out, the lion was kidnapped by Q-Drones, although Quint Quarry is still in prison on the mainland. Though Chief is dubious Quarry will help, he puts a call through to the mainland prison and indeed Quarry is more interested in his dinner than dropping hints. While the investigation continues via outer methods, the rescue team goes to work on emergency test week — Graham and Boulder check out an underground shelter and find it's unstable thanks to a termite infestation; Chase and Chief check the fire house's fire suppression systems; Blades and Dani brief the city council on earthquake drills; and Kade and Heatwave replace emergency rations.

Meanwhile Cody hands out checklists, and talks to Prescott, discovering that the family who originally adopted the lion went by the name of Quarry. Armed with this knowledge, Cody questions Quarry again. Quarry insists on being moved to the Griffin Rock jail, where he tells Chief that the likely lionnapper is his arch-rival Lord Thurston Chumley. He suggests setting a trap using a rare animal.

The Rescue Team settles on using the Rescue Bots' dino modes as bait. That night they have the Rescue Bots in the zoo, and the human members of the team on watch, armed with EMP guns. The Q-Drones turn up, but immediately start releasing the zoo's animals as a distraction. With lemurs, an elephant and a tiger running loose, the Rescue Bots are forced to spring into action to round them back up. They succeed, but are nabbed by the Q-Drones and carried off in a waiting helijet.

The bots are taken to a ship where they quickly discover their tracking devices are being jammed. Boulder marvels at their fellow captives, which include rare and even species thought extinct. When Lord Chumley releases them to be prepared for display, the Rescue Bots take out the Q-Drones and split up to find the lion.

Believing that Quarry warned Chumley of the plan, Chief and Cody confront him, but he merely tries to talk them into releasing him. Graham's unable to track the bots, so the team pursues alternate courses of investigation.

As the Bots explore the ship, Heatwave finds himself trapped by a couple of doors. Blades finds Whiskers, but becomes trapped in a forcefield. Chase falls into a pit trap. Boulder discovers some Carolina parakeets, and frees them, attaching his tracking device to one of them. No sooner has he released it from the ship than he is caught by a Q-Drone.

Back in Griffin Rock, Graham picks up the signal from the device, however as the team prepares to assemble, it turns out Kade is giving a safety briefing in the unstable shelter. Despite Graham's warning, Kade's group ends up trapped in the shelter after it collapses, and the team realize they don't have the Bots to help them out. Cody strikes on the idea of getting the elephant from the zoo to help dig Kade out. Once the elephant's returned to the zoo, the team heads out in one of Dani's test aircraft and quickly find Chumley's ship. They split up and manage to locate and free the Bots. Chumley catches Chief and Cody freeing Boulder and is about to imprison them as well, but Boulder frees a bunch of the animals, which corner the hunter. Chumley traps himself in one of his own stasis pods in an attempt to escape, neatly wrapping things up. The team realizes they can use Quarry's island as a preserve for the recovered animals.

With the lion back in the zoo, Chief gets a call from Barney — Quarry has escaped the jail. Quarry calls Cody to say he'll avoid tangling with the Rescue Bots in future, and reveal that Chumley's his brother.
