Optimus Prime was created, along with [[Ultra Magnus (RID)|Ultra Magnus]], by [[Alpha Trion (RID)|Alpha Trion]] during the [[Golden Age]]. The two of them were raised together, and thus, saw each other as brothers. However, this relationship was torn apart after the Cybertron Civil Wars, whereupon the [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]] chose Optimus Prime to command the Autobots in stopping the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] leader [[Megatron (RID)|Megatron]] from ravaging the universe in his quest for energy. Prime soon struck up command on [[Earth]], where he took the form of a fire truck. Operating out of a secret base in [[Metro City]], he and his fellow Autobots were more than ready to face Megatron and his Predacons. The conflict began when Megatron appeared in [[New York City]], attempting to kidnap the famous scientist [[Kenneth Onishi|Doctor Kenneth Onishi]]. Optimus struck up a friendship with Onishi's son, [[Koji Onishi|Koji]], and despite not being able to save the boy's father, vowed that he would help rescue him. {{storylink|Battle Protocol!}}

Optimus later took Koji to see the Autobot base, during a series of Predacon attacks on trucks around Metro City. New Predacon [[Sky-Byte (RID)|Sky-Byte]] turned out to be after a terrorist device hidden in a sports car. With the bomb on the verge of exploding, Optimus converted to his [[Super Mode|battle mode]] and used his power stream to blast the shark and the bomb safely into space. {{storylink|An Explosive Situation}} The launch of the [[Linear RFG]] bullet train was also a clear target for the Predacons, and Optimus ordered the Autobots to provide an escort. Sure enough, the Predacons destroyed a bridge ahead, and Optimus aided [[Team Bullet Train]] in stopping the train before disaster occurred. {{storylink|Bullet Train to the Rescue}}

Together with the [[Autobot Brothers]], Prime prevented the Predacons from stealing the [[Plutonium Energy Generator]] stored in a Metro City warehouse. A distress call from Koji sent Optimus and the Autobot Brothers to a location in the sea near Metro City. Using the [[Global Space Bridge]], the Autobots made the leap out to a stricken ship, which was under attack by the Predacons. Prime fought with Sky-Byte, discovering that the shark had the edge while underwater. Once the ship was righted, the Autobot Leader quickly beat the Predacon into a withdrawal with his Fist of Steel. {{storylink|The Hunt for Black Pyramid}} Prime suspected that an attack by Megatron and the Predacon trio in the middle of Metro City was a diversion, and this was confirmed by an SOS from Side Burn, who was exploring [[Payuma ruins|Native American ruins]]. After Prime had traveled to the ruins and fought off Sky-Byte, the Autobots found a [[Doctor Onishi's microchip|microchip]], hidden there by Doctor Onishi. {{storylink|The Secret of the Ruins}}

Following Side Burn's kidnapping by the Predacons, Prime responded to the ransom request... by turning up alone and promptly being captured himself. Megatron began beating on the bound Optimus, until [[Prowl (RID)|Prowl]], [[X-Brawn]] and the Spychangers mounted a stealth rescue. The prisoners freed, the Autobots turned on the Predacons and chased them off. {{storylink|Sideburn's Obsession}} When Koji reported a Predacon attack on the [[Grandpa|D-512 Stanwich Steamer]], Optimus coordinated the Autobot defense from home base. After [[Midnight Express (RID)|Midnight Express]]'s last minute rescue of the train, Optimus held Koji up so that the boy could film the steam engine. {{storylink|Secret Weapon: D-5}}

Optimus was not very worried about Mirage having apparently defected, stating that he was an Autobot and a member of the elite Spychangers. {{storylink|Mirage's Betrayal}} Optimus has the Autobots all enter the [[International Grand Prix]] in order to try and find [[Skid-Z (RID)|Skid-Z]], a recently arrived Autobot who had scanned a racing car and become possessed by the urge to compete in races. Unfortunately the Predacons decided to enter the race too, and partway through, Optimus and the Autobot Brothers found themselves holding up a huge rock dropped onto them by Megatron. Fortunately Skid-Z himself turned up and destroyed the rock, allowing them to chase Megatron off. {{storylink|Skid Z's Choice}}

Another new recruit, [[Tow-Line (RID)|Tow-Line]] went rogue and began towing away random Autobots to an unspecified location. Prowl and Optimus finally managed to track Tow-Line down, correcting the damage to his circuits done by the Predacons, and rescuing their fellows. A rousing battle ensued, with inevitable defeat for the Predacons. {{storylink|Tow-Line Goes Haywire}} A Predacon investigation of the [[Cave of the Dragon]] lead Optimus and Midnight Express to dress up as a huge statue to chase them off. The ruse worked, and Optimus discovered that the cave did contain something of interest—an [[O-Part]]! {{storylink|The Ultimate Robot Warrior}} Concerned at recent Predacon activity, Optimus called the Autobots back to HQ to review previous missions. {{storylink|Hope for the Future}}

Lead by Doctor Onishi's microchip to [[Castle Peak]], Prime and the Autobot Brothers found the Predacons digging up a derelict Autobot spacecraft. The ship contained six [[protoform]]s, which Megatron promptly stole, whisking them away to nearby [[McKinley Army Base]] to be formatted into [[Decepticon]]s. During the fight at the base, [[Kelly (RID)|Kelly]] attempted to flee in a fuel tanker, and was saved by Optimus from plunging into a crater. The last protoform scanned Optimus and the tanker at the same time, resulting in [[Scourge (RID)|Scourge]], a Decepticon resembling a twisted clone of the Autobot leader. {{storylink|The Decepticons}} The Decepticons' first mission was to attack [[Sherman Dam]], during which Optimus managed to stop them from detonating explosives planted on the dam, and clashed with Scourge. {{storylink|Commandos}}

More activity lead Prime and the Spychangers to [[Montrose Island]], where they clashed with the Decepticons and Sky-Byte. With the volcano in danger of erupting, Optimus froze the crater with his Blizzard Storm attack, but was occupied fighting Scourge to do any more. He pinned [[Ruination (RID)|Ruination]], allowing the Spychanger to use their [[Inferno Blast]] to divert the erupting lava to the sea. {{storylink|Volcano (episode)|Volcano}} The Decepticons had [[Movor]] fired into space to try and locate the Autobot base from orbit, by observing Autobot movements. Optimus had Side Burn go to [[Pier 7B]], where an ambush had been arranged. Prime's battle with Scourge was largely won by the fact that Movor kept firing on the pair from space and accidentally hitting Scourge. {{storylink|Attack from Outer Space}}

Prime hoped that Scourge and his fellow Decepticons would one day be restored to their true Autobot selves, and in fact at one point [[Mega-Octane]] met with Optimus Prime, claiming that the Decepticons wanted to defect. Just as Optimus was about to show the Decepticons to the Autobot base, Sky-Byte attacked. Scourge's strike at the Predacon would have incurred a human casualty, had Optimus not deflected the sword blow with his [[Flying Fist]], and the trick was revealed. Optimus took part in countering a series of attacks on power plants, {{storylink|The Fish Test}} and arrived in [[Antarctica]] in time to help the [[Build Team (RID)|Build Team]] defeat the Decepticon and Predacon forces. {{storylink|Wedge's Short Fuse}} He also helped the Build Team reach the space bridge computer after the Decepticons sabotaged it. During the subsequent battle in the Arctic, he was content to let [[Landfill (RID)|Landfill]] face Megatron alone, as a matter of honor. {{storylink|Landfill (episode)|Landfill}}

Sky-Byte and his Predacons attacked the [[CGA Tower]] during its opening, apparently holding the humans inside hostage and demanding that Optimus Prime bring him the O-Parts. Optimus headed for the scene, but was cut off by the Decepticons. His haste resulted in him speedily dispatching Ruination with one shot from his Blaze Blaster, before hurrying to the tower. After a further battle with Scourge, Optimus helped stabilise the tower so that Landfill could create a new foundation for it. {{storylink|Sky-Byte Saves the Day}} Optimus took time out to review footage of the Autobots' recent missions, in order to better understand his enemies. {{storylink|Lessons of the Past}} After the Decepticons began a vendetta against the Build Team, Optimus ordered the Build Team not to get involved—but they did anyway, battling Ruination underground. Prime reached the location after Landfill had defeated the Decepticons in a huge fireball, and extinguished the four Autobots. {{storylink|A Test of Metal}}

Matters escalated when Ultra Magnus appeared on Earth, making his desire to take the Matrix from Optimus Prime known to his "brother". Optimus confronted Magnus, inviting the Autobot to join his team, but Magnus refused and challenged Prime to a duel. {{storylink|Ultra Magnus (episode)|Ultra Magnus}} Optimus refused to fight Magnus, and was thus mercilessly fired upon, until [[Side Burn (RID)|Side Burn]], [[Prowl (RID)|Prowl]], and [[X-Brawn]] arrived to carry him away. Prime took refuge on a deserted island, but the Decepticons, Megatron, and Magnus all tracked him there. In the midst of the battle, Magnus forcibly activated their ability to combine into [[Omega Prime]], intending to use it to drain Prime of his energy so he could take the Matrix, but Optimus managed to take control and use their combination to stop the Decepticons. {{storylink|Ultra Magnus: Forced Fusion!}}

After the Decepticons captured the Autobot Brothers, Optimus confronted them, but was unable to fight back under threat of the brothers being killed. Despite being pounded on by the Decepticons, Optimus was fit enough to combine with Ultra Magnus once the three brothers were freed. {{storylink|The Two Faces of Ultra Magnus}} Optimus came to the Autobot Brothers' rescue himself when they experienced an odd power drain during battle. He fought Ruination and Scourge alone until Ultra Magnus arrived to lend a hand. {{storylink|Power to Burn!}}

During the search for some ruins under Metro City, Optimus Prime monitored things from base. He joined his men when they found [[Fortress Maximus (RID)|Fortress Maximus]] hidden in the ruins, and helped fight the Decepticons off. {{storylink|Fortress Maximus (episode)|Fortress Maximus}} While the Build Team concealed Fortress Maximus, Optimus kept Scourge busy, fighting the Decepticon beneath the city. {{storylink|Koji Gets His Wish}} He turned up in the [[Sahara|Sahara Desert]] after the rest of the Autobots had collected all of the O-Parts, in time to fight off Megatron. {{storylink|A Friendly Contest}}

Combined into an orb, the O-Parts lead Optimus and the Autobot Brothers back to the Sahara, and a pyramid located in a cavern beneath the sands. There they battled with Megatron and the Decepticons over the [[Orb of Sigma]]. Once again, Omega Prime was formed in order to battle Megatron, and at the end of the battle, only the Autobot was still standing. {{storylink|Peril from the Past}} Though the Autobots gained the location of [[Cerebros (RID)|Cerebros]], the key to activating Fortress Maximus, Cerebros was snatched from their grasp by the Decepticons. Optimus lead his men in attempted to protect the titan, but Scourge managed to succeed. Fortress Maximus proved impossible to control, and began rampaging across the city. The return of Megatron, in a few form as Galvatron, complicated the battle, and even Optimus and Ultra Magnus combined into Omega Prime were unable to stop the devastation, until Koji managed to command Maximus to stop. {{storylink|Maximus Emerges}}

Clashes with the Decepticons and Fortress Maximus in a desert {{storylink|The Human Element}} and a forest were largely unsuccessful, but internal ructions in the Decepticon ranks eventually resulted in the Autobots managing to gain control of Cerebros. {{storylink|Mistaken Identity}} When the Decepticons discovered the location of the Autobot base and mounted an attack, Optimus took Cerebros, leading the Decepticons through Metro City to an ambush in a more remote location. Prime and Magnus combined into Omega Prime once again, but found they were ineffective against the power of Galvatron's ''[[Megastar]]'', and were forced to sit back and watch as Fortress Maximus dealt with the battle station. {{storylink|Surprise Attack!}}

Galvatron had survived the confrontation and began draining power from Fortress Maximus. When Omega Prime confronted him, he responded by using [[cyber-bat]]s to enslave and threaten the world's children. Prime was forced to call a retreat through the space bridge, which gave Galvatron the opportunity to trap them there and flood the tunnel with lava. As Optimus was overcome by the lava, Koji's words inspired him to escape and confront Galvatron once more. {{storylink|Galvatron's Revenge}}

Though Galvatron seized the rest of the Autobots in an energy field, Optimus escaped and combined with Ultra Magnus. Omega Prime challenged Galvatron one-on-one at the [[Earth's core]]. He was seemingly no match for the Decepticon leader, until Fortress Maximus sent his power, which energized the Matrix, forming the giant weapon, the [[Matrix Blade]]. Galvatron was defeated, and with that, the Autobots' mission on Earth was finished, and Prime resolved to return to Cybertron—but not before "one last look around" with Koji and the rest of his team. {{storylink|The Final Battle (RID)|The Final Battle}}

Affected by [[Tankor (BM)|Tankor]]'s '80s Transformation Beam, a TV began airing adult-rated content at prime time as was acceptable in the '80s, including a scene of [[#KT Figure Collection|Fire Convoy creeping on a bathing T-AI]]. {{storylink|Legends Comic: Bonus Edition Vol. 3|Bonus Edition Vol. 3}} When Sky-Byte, still on [[Earth]] in the [[2004]] of the [[G1 World]], was sent to the Legends World, he was perplexed to find that the Transformers were fictional. When [[Rattrap (BW)|Rattrap]] explained to him about characters like [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]], Sky-Byte found through research that "Optimus Prime" was the English name of his hated enemy, Fire Convoy. Thus, he sought to ruin Fire Convoy's reputation in this world... by dressing up as ''[[Transformers: Age of Extinction (franchise)|Age of Extinction]]'' Optimus Prime. Following his victory on Earth, Fire Convoy returned to his own future and continued leading the Dimensional Patrol from [[Neo Brave Maximus]]. When an escaped Scourge attacked their base to rescue Devil Gigatron, Fire Convoy tried to initiate [[Battle Protocol]] only to find that T-AI had been hacked by [[Dark Ai]]. [[Vector Prime]] claimed Fire Convoy was a vassal of the [[Convoy Council]] and a peer of [[Reverse Convoy]], [[Lio Convoy]], and [[Galaxy Convoy]]. {{storylink|Source:Ask Vector Prime/Facebook#July 14, 2015|Ask Vector Prime, 2015/07/14}} He led the [[Dimensional Patrol]] in pursuit of [[Megatron (RID)|Gigatron]]'s [[Predacon (BW)|Destronger]]s to the year 2000 at the behest of the [[Convoy Council]]. While Fire Convoy was making preparations, he discovered the Beta BT unit of [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]] which had been in storage for centuries. Knowing that the memories it contained were invaluable, Fire Convoy had the Beta BT unit rebuilt with [[Spychanger]] technology and infused with life by [[Vector Sigma]]. With the other Autobots all engaged in other fights around the world, Optimus Prime alone was available to answer T-AI's battle protocol at an experimental nuclear generator in Arizona. His opening plan was to lure the Predacons and Decepticons away from the humans to battle them at a safe distance, but his wayward brother Ultra Magnus intervened, confronting the villains head on in the middle of the generator plant. As Prime chastised Magnus for his rash action, Scourge overheard and seized on the idea to threaten the humans if the Autobots didn't stand down. Despite his anger at Optimus, Ultra Magnus remembered his Autobot training and reluctantly laid down his weapon. At the proper moment, though, the brothers managed to attack a distracted Scourge and save the humans. The Predacons and Decepticons escaped with the generator, but the humans were safe. {{storylink|Ultra Magnus...to the Rescue?}}

In universal stream [[Viron 903.0 Beta]], {{storylink|Source:Ask Vector Prime/Facebook#August 13, 2015|Ask Vector Prime, 2015/08/13}} after turning in Galvatron to the proper authorities, Optimus Prime enjoyed the time following by studying various lifeforms and their environments on other planets throughout the universe. During this vacation, his weapons systems were upgraded considerably.

However, his skills were inevitably needed once again on Earth when evil threatened the planet. He formed the [[Dimensional Patrol]] from the ranks of the Autobots who had stayed behind on Earth, as well as additional experts in transwarp technology, to defend the planet from those who would do it harm via the "temporal and spatial nexus" in Earth's proximity. Unfortunately, Optimus Prime, Ultra Magnus, and several members of the Dimensional Patrol were abducted by [[Unicron]]. As Omega Prime, Prime and Magnus escaped this fate in a jailbreak set into motion by [[Trailbreaker (G1)|Trailbreaker]] and [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]]. They left Unicron for their home universe via a portal created by [[Optimus Primal (BW)/Beast Wars cartoon continuity|Optimus Primal]] and [[Snarl (BM)|Snarl]], {{storylink|Escape (Universe)|Escape}} but shortly thereafter they were once again called into service by [[Primus]]. {{storylink|Homecoming (Universe)|Homecoming}}

During the final battle with the [[Minion of Unicron (Universe)|Minions of Unicron]] in the [[Pit (Universe)|Pit]], Optimus Prime and Ultra Magnus (as Omega Prime) were fighting alongside the [[Child of Primus|Children of Primus]] when the corrupt pocket universe began to collapse around them. The ship got caught in an electron storm, and the Allicon steered the ship in the wrong direction attempting to pull free, which earned a slap from the scientist before it corrected and changed course. When the captives escaped, it dueled Wreck-Gar with a spear until the Quintesson's ship started being dragged into a [[black hole]]. The Allicon set the ship in reverse thrust to try and resist the gravity well, and activated a distress beacon in hopes that a passing ship might rescue them before the ship's thrusters lost power. When the Quintesson tried to flee in the only escape pod, the Allicon alerted them to the attempt and ran to the escape pod as well, but then froze up when the scientist ordered it to stop. That lockup cleared up as soon as Marissa ran for the pod, and the guard pulled her from Magnus's hands, wihch resulted in the pod launching with no-one inside. When the ship eventually fell into the black hole, they found themselves in a "negative universe", and the Allicon donated some of its parts to repair the engines and rocket back to their home universe through the "white hole". Allicon agents were sent out to many worlds to determine their suitability for colonization. But a freak cosmic storm diverted the message canister containing the results to the planet of [[Junkion (planet)|Junk]], where it was recovered by [[Wreck-Gar (G1)|Wreck-Gar]] and the [[Junkion (species)|Junkion]]s. Wreck-Gar was interrogated by the Quintessons, but provided no useful information. An Allicon led Wreck-Gar to his execution at the [[Sharkticon (species)|Sharkticon]] pits, but was overpowered by the Junkion and tossed into the pit himself. Wreck-Gar fought past a number of other Allicons before making his escape.

In the meantime, General [[Ghyrik]] led a fleet of Allicons and Quintessons to Earth for Plan B: the taking of [[Autobot City (G1)|Autobot City]]!

Ghyrik and the Allicons breached the outer walls using Trident attack crafts, and a commando raid secured the city itself in a matter of minutes. An Allicon soon informed Ghyrik that Phase 2 was underway: the conquest of Cybertron. Other Allicons continued the pursuit of Wreck-Gar away from Quintessa, but he evaded them. He has two different weapons: a spear modeled after the one used in "[[The Killing Jar (episode)|The Killing Jar]]" that can also tab onto his back for storage, and a curved blade made from the inner part of his tail.

:In robot mode, this figure is relatively short for a Deluxe Class toy, but is very solidly built with only the backs of his legs being hollow. Those hollow areas allow the Allicon to compress his legs a decent amount, allowing him to assume a more hunched stance when transformed. On that note, he features an autotransformation gimmick: when transforming from alligator mode to robot mode, folding his alligator head and tail back will automatically cause his robot mode head to rise up into position. However, when converting from robot mode to alligator mode, his robot mode head must be pushed down into its storage position manually.

:The CG render of the beast mode is slightly mistransformed: the robot mode arms are not pegged into the figure's torso, which, in turn, tilts the beast mode arms outward. The Optimus Prime inner robot is remolded to resemble his Generation 1 toy, complete with toy-accurate yellow eyes. Most of the armor's grey parts (especially the evolution armor's arms) are now remolded in red plastic to be more accurate to Star Convoy's character model, though there are a few sacrifices leaving some of the red patches on the trailer.

:The Matrix of Leadership is now replaced with the "Silver Matrix" that is a singular piece of plastic dipped in chrome. As such, it does not accommodate Prime Masters/Matrices/Enigmas. The Matrix can be held by 5 mm fist holes and can combine with the guns to form a "Big Bang Cannon". Unlike the original versions of the mold, Star Convoy's stickers, intended to be applied to his trailer, come on a sheet instead of being factory-applied.

:The star-shaped piece that clips into Star Convoy's chest is new to this version of the mold. Because it pegs into a small hole between the tops of the doors to Star Convoy's chest compartment, it introduces an additional step to access the matrix chamber. The red connector which attaches the star to the figure is misassembled, and flipped from its proper orientation. Due to this, the star is prone to not attaching securely to the chest and can easily pop out without much effort. A fix<ref>[https://www.tfw2005.com/boards/threads/generations-selects-star-convoy-super-megatron-snaptrap-figures.1172403/page-113#post-17312785]</ref> utilized by some to address the issue involves popping out the star and connector, then flipping the connector around, before reattaching both parts to the figure. Care should be taken when handling the star and transforming Star Convoy to ensure it does not bump against other parts of the figure or experience undue stress, as it is molded from clear plastic coated in gold chrome. The stem of the star is particularly fragile and has been known to break without much force being applied to it.

:Reminiscent of the fact that the original [[Optimus Prime (G1)/toys#Return of Convoy|''Return of Convoy'' Star Convoy]] figure could transform into a battle station, a "Z Base Mode" resembling that original battle station mode was created for the character and introduced in the ''Selects'' [[Super Megatron comic 1|Special Comic promoting Super Megatron]]. This figure (and any of the ''Power of the Primes'' Evolution Optimus Prime molds) is capable of being configured into this form. In reference to the fact that the original Star Convoy figure included a [[Hot Rod (G1)/toys#Return of Convoy|Micromaster version of Hot Rod]] to man the battle station, one can populate the Z Base Mode with the [[Firebolt (G1)#Titans Return|Firedrive]] or Rodimus Prime Titan Masters from [[Hot Rod (G1)/toys#Titans Return|Hot Rod's ''Titans Return'' figure]] and the "Chaos on Velocitron" box set respectively. As said Hot Rod Micromaster could also store in the original Star Convoy figure's chest, one can also re-enact this functionality by taking a Matrix frame from a ''[[Power of the Primes (toyline)|Power of the Primes]]'' Leader Class figure and placing one of the aforementioned Titan Masters in it, then inserting the frame into Star Convoy's chest.

This also means that, like the ''Siege'' toy, the truck mode is unusually small for a Voyager figure.

:For the first time for a non-''Masterpiece'' ''Generations'' toy, Optimus Prime comes with a trailer (which is also compatible with the ''Siege'' toy) that converts into a combat deck/repair bay with an artillery robot, which can be detached and used as a jetpack via a 5mm peg on the bottom. Awesome. He is also the first Voyager-sized figure with an opening chest compartment containing a removable [[Matrix of Leadership/toys#War for Cybertron: Earthrise|Matrix of Leadership]] accessory. In an undocumented feature, the Matrix is able to accommodate "Fire Blasts" from the Battle Masters assortment or attach to similarly sized posts such as the ones inside his trailer. His transformation scheme reuses some engineering and concepts from the ''Siege'' Voyager Class figures and ''[[Studio Series]]'' [[Optimus Prime (Movie)/toys#SS38|38 Optimus Prime]], with a new torso transformation. Interestingly, his rear wheels are borrowed from ''Studio Series'' [[Optimus Prime (Movie)/toys#SS32|32]] and [[Optimus Prime (Movie)/toys#SS44|44 Optimus Prime]]. Part of the trailer's ramp detaches to form a shield and can connect to other ramps in the [[A.I.R. Lock System]]. Like ''Siege'' Jetfire, Optimus Prime features a hinge joint in each of his knuckles but without the flip-out post hole mechanism, instead having it facilitated by the shape of his palm and thumb. Interestingly, the placement of his front wheels in robot mode evokes the [[Studio OX]] version of his character model (though significantly larger compared to the artwork). Optimus also has molded drilled-rotor brake discs, a surprising detail for a mainline ''Transformers'' figure.

:As the front grill/wheel piece is connected with a c-clip, removing it allows the waist to turn without being hindered. Whether by coincidence or not, the Energon Strikeshield from the ''Siege'' figure can attach onto the forearm (if the hands are tucked away) with the tabs on the axe's hinged handle. Also likely coincidental, the trailer's hitch post is at exactly the right height to let it rest inside the 5mm hole on [[Roller (G1)#Generations|''Thrilling 30'' Roller]] and can even be pulled along on flat surfaces with the tiny truck.

:Confusingly, the figure had many color differences in different official promotional images. The original 3D renders depicted his colors completely show-accurate to the G1 cartoon (minus the blue codpiece, and with quite rare toy-accurate yellow eyes), the lack of striping on the forearms/side doors, and fully blue artillery robot for the trailer, while the pre-release prototype seen in New York Comic Con 2019 and the secondary stock photos had his hands and elbows molded in grey, with artillery robot being cast in grey and silver plastic similar to the rest of the trailer. According to [[John Warden]], this was due to the limitations of the mold. Even later, Takara's stock photos showed the figure with blue elbows and a blue and silver artillery robot. The retail release of the figure ultimately, for the most part, went with colors showcased in Hasbro's physical toy stock photos, but with previously yellow eyes now more cartoon-accurate blue, and with his hands, codpiece, and the back piece of his head painted in metallic blue.<ref>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XIu3DkO1Sj0</ref> Early renders also displayed the figure's inner-shins as being molded in the same blue color as the rest of the legs, although the final figure presents them cast in gray and unpainted. The sample on the TakaraTomy stock photos also depict his trailer hitch as a single piece.

:Unfortunately, the change from toy accurate yellow eyes to cartoon-accurate blue clashes with the unpainted blue face, making it barely visible. The figure's head can be swapped with the head of the ''Siege'' figure (though the blue plastic is a slightly lighter shade) but it can cause some parts clash while transforming, as the back of the ''Earthrise'' head is a new, flatter part. This is also why the part is a painted red piece, so exercise some caution while tucking away/flipping out the head while transforming.

:While the vestigial knee flaps were meant to be flipped out while transforming him into truck mode, the flaps' pegs and the elbow's rectangular holes had a slight issue of being held together, which results in the cab ''slightly'' tilted frontward (I mean ''very''). If the issue still persists, the vestigial knee flaps can be left untransformed to properly straighten the cab.

:Like all ''Earthrise'' toys, the inside of the back of Optimus's package includes an exclusive clip-and-save piece of a larger star map. Also in the box is a thin red piece of transparent plastic with which to read the star map. Optimus' piece of the map contains the labeled location of a planet called "[[Micro|MICRON]]".

:The non-converting long-barreled Ion Blaster, the Energon Axe, [[Sideswipe (G1)/toys#War for Cybertron: Siege|Sideswipe]]'s jetpack, and [[Roller (G1)#War for Cybertron Trilogy|Roller]] were sold separately as part of the ''War for Cybertron Trilogy'' [[Centurion droid#Toys|Deluxe Centurion Drone Weaponizer Pack]], though due to a section of Optimus' back being marginally wider than the space available, some force may be required to fully attach the jetpack. The Energon Axe is also specifically molded to fit onto Optimus' right hand, with the 5mm peg sliding into the bottom side of his hand. Although it can fit on his left hand if slid through the top, this puts noticeable stress on the axe's peg due to the thumb sliding up against the housing.

His transformation shares engineering with the [[#Thrilling 30|''Thrilling 30'' Legends figure]], but with sculpted detailing directly based on the ''Earthrise'' mold, down to details like the ''vestigial knee flaps'' from the ''Siege'' mold. The included Ion Blaster features a 3 mm handle under a 5 mm post, dedicated to the C.O.M.B.A.T. System. He is also fairly articulated for a figure this small, having head rotation and tilting, torso rotation (which actually looks a bit unnatural), ab crunch, butterfly joints at the shoulders, and ball joints in shoulders, elbows, hips, and knees.

:Unlike the actual product, the truck door section of the wrist/hand part is unpainted in the CG stock render. Curiously, his instructions depict an Energon axe that was notably left out of the final release, and was not shown in stock photos. :Part of the first wave of ''[[Transformers: Legacy|Legacy]]'' Leader Class toys, "Laser Optimus Prime" is an updated version of his [[Optimus Prime (G1)/toys#LaserOptimusPrime|''Generation 2'' design]] which transforms into a mid-1990s Western Star 4964EX, with deco and sculpt details most directly based on the [[Optimus Prime (G1)/toys#G2Reissue|2006 "Battle Convoy" reissue version's modified deco and stickers]] with a flame deco on the front from [[Optimus Prime (G1)/toys#RTSDeluxe|his 2010 Deluxe Class figure]]. He includes an Energon sword, an Energon axe, a new removable Matrix of Leadership which echoes the sticker details of the 2006 reissue, and a trailer that can transform into a battle station (tanker deco of Optimus burning down a forest not included, sadly) with a small detachable double barreled cannon. The axe and sword can store either inside the trailer or on the cab, with the sword storing underneath the rear section of the cab like the original and the axe slotting in over the trailer hitch. In tanker mode, the trailer's claw arm can be folded down to act as a jack to allow it to stand freely. His signature shoulder pylons can open outwards to reveal missile pods.

: Not mentioned in his instructions, the sword and axe can combine into the [[Star_Saber_(Prima)|Star Saber]]. His Matrix can be attached to the axe or the combined sword, using the rectangular peg near the axe's haft (normally meant to keep the handle folded neatly for storage). The chest slot where the Matrix plugs in is open in the back, seemingly meant to allow for [[light piping]] in robot mode.

:Most of Laser Optimus Prime's lower body, including his hips, thighs, the front of his lower legs (except for the shin vents), and feet, reuse elements from the ''Earthrise'' toy above whereas other details like his crotch, shins, back of the lower legs, tires, and the entirety of his upper body are brand-new. Like the ''Earthrise'' toy, the shins have the ''Siege'' figure's trailer hitch on the outside. Laser Optimus' trailer can be attached to ''Earthrise'' Optimus, as well as ''Siege'' Optimus, ''Kingdom'' Huffer, and ''Kingdom'' Pipes. This figure is also similarly compatible with the trailer included with ''Earthrise'' Optimus.

:The [[Hasbro Pulse]] listing for the figure lists him under the name "G2 Universe Laser Optimus Prime", while the packaging itself merely labels him as "Laser Optimus Prime". Despite his origins, Optimus has no G2 faction symbols, only a silver G1 Autobot insignia on his left cab door.

Pax comes with both a red pistol and an [[Energon goodie]] dispenser, both also reused from ''Studio Series'' Kup.
