:''NEST is a military organization from the [[Movie continuity family]].''
[[File:NEST insignia.png|upright=1.67|thumb|Moooooooove out, soldier!]]

Following the disbanding of [[Sector Seven]], the '''Non-biological Extraterrestrial Species Treaty (NEST)''' was set up under [[William Lennox]] to create a combined [[Human]]/[[Autobot]] defense force against [[Decepticon]]s. Under the classified [[Alien/Autobot Cooperation Act]], the Autobots share intelligence and personnel with the US, but not their advanced weaponry.

NEST is given marching orders from the [[Pentagon]], specifically the US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff ([[Morshower]] in 2008–9). Despite this and its American origins, it expanded early on to include armed forces from other nations such as the [[United Kingdom]] and is allowed access to [[China|foreign territory]]. At some point it came under the command of [[Marcus|General Marcus]].

{{bigquote|A classified strike team called NEST. We hunt for what remains of our Decepticon foes, hiding in different countries around the globe.|[[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]]|[[Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (film)|''Revenge of the Fallen'']]}}

==Fiction==
===Movies===
{{note|The five movies are the primary component of the live-action movie continuity family. Their events should be taken as canon for all other pieces of fiction listed below, unless otherwise specified.}}
====''Revenge of the Fallen'' film====
NEST arrived in Shanghai with a cover story provided by the Chinese government that they were cleaning up a toxic spill in the industrial area. In reality, the Autobot-human military alliance was hunting the sixth group of Decepticon infiltrators detected in the past eight months, with the hopes of cleanly taking out the enemy without members of the public witnessing the secret war. Unfortunately, the Decepticons, Demolishor and [[Sideways (ROTF)|Sideways]], wrecked a significant portion of Shanghai before they were defeated by Sideswipe and Optimus Prime. Returning to their base at Diego Garcia, Lennox and Optimus met [[Theodore Galloway]], who was appointed their new Director by the [[President of the United States]], and held a video conference with General [[Morshower]]. Galloway noted President [[Barack Obama|Obama]]'s serious concerns at the destruction during the Shanghai battle, and voiced his opinion that the Decepticons only remained because the Autobots did. Optimus said that if the Autobots were asked to leave, they would do so, but asked Galloway to pass on a message to the President: what if the Autobots leave, and the humans are wrong?

Little did they know, [[Soundwave (ROTF)|Soundwave]] was listening in on their conversation, overhearing details such as [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]]'s location in the [[Laurentian Abyss]], and the last [[AllSpark]] fragment in storage at Diego Garcia. [[Ravage (ROTF)|Ravage]] was deployed to steal the fragment, which [[Scalpel (ROTF)|Scalpel]] used to revive their leader. The reborn Megatron went after [[Sam Witwicky]], and Optimus Prime died protecting him. Following Optimus' death, the Decepticons arrived in greater numbers during bolder attacks under the leadership of Megatron's master, [[The Fallen]], with the promise of more if the humans did not turn Sam over to the Decepticons. Galloway ordered the termination of NEST and that the Autobots retreat to Diego Garcia.

But [[Seymour Simmons]] contacted Lennox, revealing he had travelled to [[Egypt]] with Sam to unravel the Decepticons' plot, and that they should bring Optimus Prime's body, as the boy had a plan to resurrect him. Lennox managed to get the information to General Morshower, who managed to arrange assets to be positioned accordingly. During their supposed flight to Diego Garcia, Lennox had the pilots divert to Egypt and then fake engine trouble so Galloway would be forced to parachute off the plane, so they could land outside the [[pyramid]]s instead. Once they set up, [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]] performed a flyby and released an [[electromagnetic pulse]], disabling communications, while Soundwave knocked out the [[United States military]] satellite coverage. Once communications were out, Megatron ordered the Decepticons to attack, with a small force landing to engage NEST.

Suspecting something was wrong, Morshower ordered a UAV deployed to observe what was going on, while Simmons was able to use a radio from a [[Jordan]]ian helicopter to request backup from the nearby [[USS John C. Stennis|U.S.S. ''John C. Stennis''<nowiki>'</nowiki> battle group]]. Once the UAV confirmed the battle was going on, Morshower deployed all available assets to the region. On the ground, NEST fought a desperate struggle to hold off the Decepticons, until Sam arrived with the [[Matrix of Leadership]]. Once again in contact with the military, Sergeant Epps ordered in an airstrike, which managed to destroy most of the Decepticon forces. Megatron survived the strike, and killed Sam, but [[Dynasty of Primes|something]] managed to revive him, and he restored Optimus to life. With the Autobot leader functioning again, NEST watched as he combined with [[Jetfire (Movie)|Jetfire]] and subsequently defeated The Fallen. {{storylink|Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (film)|Revenge of the Fallen}}

====''Dark of the Moon'' film====
[[File:DOTM NEST HQ.jpg|thumb|upright=1.67|Meanwhile, at the Hall of Justice...]]
Following the defeat of the Fallen, NEST began deploying [[Energon detector]]s around the globe. With a distinct lack of Decepticons to fight, they began to get involved in policing human affairs, such as illegal nuclear facilities. A lead from [[Alexi Voskhod]] sent Colonel Lennox's team to the abandoned [[Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant]] in the [[Ukraine]] to investigate an alien technology. Little did they know that [[Laserbeak (DOTM)|Laserbeak]] was leading them to a trap, and as they journeyed deeper in the facility, they were ambushed by [[Shockwave (Movie)|Shockwave]] and [[Driller]]. The Decepticons were then overpowered by [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]]. They returned to their secret base disguised as the "[[United States Department of Health and Human Services|Department of Health and Human Services]]" in [[Washington, D.C.]], where Autobot and human members alike trained to take down Decepticons.

[[Charlotte Mearing|Director Charlotte Mearing]] interrogated Optimus, who seemed to be in a "bad mood" due to humans not telling the Autobots about the concealed technology for the past few years. She introduced two of [[NASA]]'s founding associates and astronaut [[Buzz Aldrin]] and explained that the space race began after a spacecraft crash-landed on the [[Moon (moon)|Moon]]. With the new knowledge, Optimus retrieved [[Sentinel Prime (ROTF)|Sentinel Prime]] and five [[Pillar]]s from the crashed ''[[Ark (DOTM)|Ark]]''. While they were still preparing to revive Sentinel, [[Sam Witwicky]] and [[Carly Spencer]] arrived at the gate. Though the pair were stopped by the guards, Bumblebee let them in. Sam passed on information he had gained about the Decepticon involvement in the space race. Optimus revived Sentinel, who explained to Mearing that the Pillars were a transportation device. Though Sam was keen to contribute further, Mearing told him that NEST was for soldiers.

With the help of [[Seymour Simmons]], Sam discovered that the Decepticons were after Sentinel, and NEST HQ went on alert. As a battle in the highway raged, and the Autobots returned to the NEST headquarters, Sentinel announced he had made a deal with Megatron, and terminated [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]]. He followed that up by trashing NEST HQ and taking the Pillars. Retreating to the safety of the Pentagon, the NEST forces received an encrypted audio code, demanding Optimus's Autobots be expelled from Earth. Following the apparent destruction of the ''[[Xantium (DOTM)|Xantium]]'', Sam and Epps picked up some former NEST soldiers and went to [[Chicago]], which had been conquered by the Decepticons and became a barren wasteland. As they were attacked by Decepticon fighters, Optimus and the Autobots rescued them from the attack, having survived the ''Xantium'' destruction.

Meanwhile, Lennox and his team decided to [[wingsuit]] into the city to destroy the Control Pillar in one of the skyscrapers. After a hazardous landing, Lennox's team rendezvoused with Epps's team and began a counterattack on the Decepticon forces, using snipers and charges to aid the Autobots in their battle. They also called in tomahawk missiles to shoot down the Decepticon fighters and give Optimus cover as he fought Sentinel Prime. In the end, the NEST forces stood triumphant. {{storylink|Transformers: Dark of the Moon (film)|Dark of the Moon}}

====''Age of Extinction'' film====
In the aftermath of the destruction of Chicago, public opinion against all Transformers grew considerably. The United States government officially decommissioned the NEST program and replaced it with [[Cemetery Wind]], a [[CIA]]-run operation that would ostensibly continue NEST's mission of hunting Decepticons. {{storylink|Transformers: Age of Extinction (film)|Age of Extinction}}

====''The Last Knight'' film====
Several former members of NEST such as [[Morshower]] and [[William Lennox]] have been included in the new [[Transformers Reaction Force]]. Seeing as how NEST's old base at the Pentagon is being used, it is likely that NEST was reactivated, though it appears to have been restricted to UCAV and general surveillance operations. {{storylink|Transformers: The Last Knight (film)|The Last Knight}}

===IDW movie comics===
[[File:Alliance3 NEST rollout.jpg|thumb|left|upright=1.1|Hey, that's my line!]]

Approximately one month after the events in [[Mission City]], Sector Seven inadvertently reactivated the [[Decepticon]] [[Wreckage (Movie)|Wreckage]] and simultaneously attracted the attention of [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]], and the subsequent battle leveled Sector Seven's [[Nevada]] bunker, costing dozens of lives. [[John Keller|Secretary of Defense Keller]] immediately terminated the clandestine group's operations upon learning of the incident.

In the aftermath, Captain Lennox tried to convince his dubious and hostile superiors at the [[Pentagon]] that the Autobots were indeed trustworthy and would be a valuable asset. His superiors impressed upon him that in order for the military to provide full disclosure, the Autobots must cooperate fully, and that the unit was Lennox's responsibility now. After the burial-at-sea of [[Jazz (Movie)|Jazz]], [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]] and Lennox agreed that for the protection of their mutual homeworld, they must trust each other and work together as a single team. Sometime later, the newly formed NEST command commenced training at the military base on [[Diego Garcia]]. {{storylink|Alliance issue 3|Alliance #3}}

NEST had a baptism of fire against the [[Decepticon]] scouts [[Swindle (Movie)|Swindle]] and [[Jolt (Movie)|Dead End]] in [[San Francisco]]: the mission was successful although Lennox was criticized for allowing the Autobots to transform on the [[Golden Gate Bridge]]. NEST expanded to a multinational force and began taking on Decepticon agents across [[Earth]]: [[Fracture (Movie)|Fracture]] and [[Overcast (Movie)|Overcast]] were destroyed in Europe, while [[Dropkick (Movie)|Dropkick]] and [[Incinerator (Movie)|Incinerator]] were defeated in [[Florida]]. NEST's victories were tempered with the ultimate sacrifice, such as when [[Salani]] died battling [[Jetstorm (Movie)|Jetstorm]]. When [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]] redeployed back to the 'States as [[Sam Witwicky]]'s guardian, NEST received a much-needed boost in Transformers ranks when [[Sideswipe (Movie)|Sideswipe]], [[Arcee (Movie)|Arcee]], [[Skids (ROTF)|Skids]], and [[Mudflap (ROTF)|Mudflap]] came to Earth. This joy was short-lived, however: the Decepticon [[Demolishor (ROTF)|Demolishor]] had been sighted in [[Shanghai]], [[China]]. {{storylink|Alliance issue 4|Alliance #4}}
As [[Starscream (Movie)|Starscream]] was spotted in [[Zambia]], gaining control over local rebel groups by using his internal synthesizers to create [[gold]] coins, NEST was deployed to the Zambezi River to battle [[Dropkick (Movie)|Dropkick]], [[Macerator (ROTF)|Macerator]], and [[Payload (Movie)|Payload]]. [[Beachbreak]] was killed by Starscream while helping Optimus Prime not fall to his death at Victoria Falls. Starscream's Decepticons attempted to destroy a series of dams, but Prime killed Macerator, while Payload was drowned when the humans entered the dam and opened the flood gates.

Epps, Russian scientist [[Petr Andronov]], [[Longarm (Movie)|Longarm]], and [[Knock Out (ROTF)|Knockout]] went to [[Peru]], while Lennox, [[Kaminari Ishihara]], Prime, Ironhide, and [[Salvage (Movie)|Salvage]] arrived in the Western [[Australia]]n Outback. Epps's team fought off [[Ruination (ROTF)|Ruination]] and [[Blademaster]], while Lennox's group encountered [[Kickback (ROTF)|Kickback]], [[Tread]], and [[Trample]]. Before dying, Kickback revealed he was part of a Decepticon faction not under Starscream's command, which were trying to gather enough energy to revive Megatron.

At Diego Garcia, [[crab spy|a small crab]] Decepticon infiltrated the base and hacked into the NEST computers before sneaking back into the sea. Despite the break-in, the NEST team continued their usual business, hunting another [[Swindle (Movie)|Swindle]] and [[Jolt (Movie)|Deadend]] in [[Italy|Rome]]. Unexpectedly, Starscream challenged Prime to single combat inside the Coliseum. There, Prime fell through a trap door to a subway tunnel extension and into a strong set of restraints arranged by Italian criminal [[Bruno Carrera]] - who was promised rule of Europe once Starscream conquered Earth - where he was attacked by [[Barricade (Movie)|Barricade]]. The humans rescued Prime though, and Barricade and Starscream fled. {{storylink|Transformers: The Veiled Threat|The Veiled Threat}}
NEST have a secret base in a hangar at Edwards Air Force Base, [[California]], which both monitors for Decepticons and possesses a rapid-reaction strike team for missions on US soil. Ironhide was the commanding officer there, with Sergeant [[Dundee]] as the strike team's leader. Later, when the twins were at Diego Garcia, the Decepticon [[Sideways (ROTF)|Sideways]] was captured in Australia. Even later than that, after that whole [[The Fallen|Fallen]] thing (see below), NEST attempted to lure [[Reverb (ROTF)|a motorbike Decepticon]] out of traffic in [[Los Angeles]] and into a trap. Unfortunately, [[Jolt (ROTF)|Jolt]] fubar-ed the mission and while the target was captured, the damage was extensive. This made [[Theodore Galloway]] ''very'' happy, as it was a new excuse to get NEST shut down.

Two days after that, NEST's Watch-Seven called for help from Andrews Air Force Base, reporting an unknown Cybertronian attacker and requesting back-up. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 2.9|Culture Shock}} Some time after, NEST forces responded to an attempted break-in at the Alamo armoury. {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 2.12|Rules of Engagement}}
:One of the rare additions of a human figurine for the ''[[Studio Series]]'' line, this figurine of a NEST paratrooper is included with Leader Class [[Shockwave (Movie)#Generations|Shockwave]]. The non-posable figurine has a plastic film parachute affixed to it with thread, and is intended to descend slowly when tossed into the air, in a similar fashion to the classic [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Army_men little green army men] paratrooper figurines. Unfortunately, the parachute does not operate as intended since the figure is too heavy for the small parachute to sufficiently slow down; it merely plummets quickly if tossed in the air. It ''can,'' however, be posed with its parachute draped over Shockwave's face to recreate the scene of the Decepticon's impending demise.
(It is currently uncertain if said relevant parts were ever released in olive-green in the other ''Kre-O'' franchises, and even then, this shade of olive plastic is paler than the olive used in, say, the ''[[G.I.
Prior versions of this set had ride-character [[Evac (Ride)#Kre-O|Evac]] in the fourth slot, but that character's seeming removal from all Universal park merchandise (but not The Ride itself) led to the creation of the Sentry to take his place.

: Currently, this set is not ''technically'' available online, only at the at-park gift shops immediately outside The Ride. Ordering the Kreon 4-pack via Universal's online shop will almost certainly net you the prior Evac-release version. It ''can'' however be specifically ordered over the phone by calling the Universal store's customer help number (found online) and requesting the version with the N.E.S.T. ==Notes==
*What NEST stands for was not mentioned in either the ''Revenge of the Fallen'' or ''Dark of the Moon'' films. Different meanings for the acronym have been offered by different sources; as of 2012, the term "Non-biological Extraterrestrial Species Treaty", which originally appeared without a hyphen in the storybook ''[[The Last Prime]]'', appears to have won out in fiction, appearing in [[IDW Publishing|IDW]]'s various [[Dark of the Moon (comics)|''Dark of the Moon'' comics]], the ''[[Transformers Classified]]'' novel series and ''[[Transformers: The Ride – 3D]]'', and so we have used it at the head of this article. Other terms used over time have included '''"Nonbiological Extraterresential Species Team"''' on an LG promotional tie-in website, and the particularly clunk-tacular '''"Networked Elements: Supporters and Transformers"''', which appeared in ''[[Transformers: The Veiled Threat|The Veiled Threat]]'' and later saw use on [http://www.hasbro.com/transformers/en_US/discover/cybertronian-database.cfm#/glossary/nest Hasbro] and [http://www.takaratomy.co.jp/products/TF/products/movie2/images/nest.swf Takara's websites].
* NEST troopers appeared on Cover B of the ''[[Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (film)|Revenge of the Fallen]]'' prequel comic [[Alliance issue 2|''Alliance'' #2]], but were nowhere to be seen in the story inside. This is because most of the covers illustrated by ''Revenge'' concept artist [[Josh Nizzi]] were meant to allude to scenes or situations in the actual ''Revenge of the Fallen'' movie itself.
* The native population of [[Diego Garcia]] were ''{{w|Depopulation of Diego Garcia|expelled}}'' from the island to make way for the joint [[United Kingdom]]/United States military bases. The Autobots are led by Optimus Prime, who believes freedom is the right of all sentient beings. Err...
* There is a real US Government agency known as NEST, the {{w|Nuclear Emergency Support Team}}. Of course, it could just be a cover for joint operations with alien robots. Toxic spill, indeed...
* The [[United Kingdom]], [[South Africa]], [[Canada]], [[Japan]], and [[Russia]] {{storylink|Transformers: The Veiled Threat|The Veiled Threat}} have contributed tech guys, soldiers, and bases; China, Egypt, [[Australia]], {{storylink|Transformers Comic issue 2.5|Reversal of Fortune}} Argentina, {{storylink|Tales of the Fallen issue 2|Tales of the Fallen #2}} [[Peru]], [[Italy]], and [[Zambia]] {{storylink|Transformers: The Veiled Threat|The Veiled Threat}} ''may'' be part of it, or may just be allowing NEST to enter their territory.
* While the spin-off media presents NEST as a multinational force and ''Revenge of the Fallen'' does show them operating abroad and with foreign soldiers, in the film itself NEST is presented as being under the ''direct'' control of the United States of America. (That can't make China and Russia happy...)
* The ''[[Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (toyline)|Revenge of the Fallen]]'' toyline's [[Size class|Voyager class]] Ironhide toy features a different NEST symbol on his alt-mode doors; a white Autobot symbol wearing a red beret set within a [[United Nations]]-styled logo, with 'special program' written underneath. Meanwhile, Scout class [[Dune Runner (ROTF)|Dune Runner]] features a NEST symbol with the Autobot sigil and a downward pointing broadsword (from a NEST special forces patch) replacing the cow's skull. [[Fast Action Battlers]] Ironhide has the same sword symbol as Dune Runner. Yet more toys have the globe-and-Autobot insignia shown above. NEST must have a lot of bored designers on staff.
** These alternate logos don't usually appear in the fiction. Exceptions include the Global Alliance logo on [[CFB Comox]] in a Titan comic.
* The Polish name for NEST ("GNIAZDO", meaning "nest" in Polish) probably comes from the translators not realizing that NEST was actually an acronym.

===Foreign names===
*''Polish:'' '''GNIAZDO''' (only in [[Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (Xbox 360/PS3/PC)|the video game]])
'''Agent Schloder is hot on the trail of exposing Bumblebee, while a simmering conflict between the Terrans finally boils over.'''

==Synopsis==
[[File:Bee Hides From Schloder SecurityProtocols.jpg|thumb|left|300px]]

[[G.H.O.S.T.]] Cadets [[Kwan]], [[Conway]] and [[Rosato]] are scanning for [[energon]] signatures at [[Witwicky Raceway]] when they spot a high-powered sports car doing laps before using a boost to leave the arena. Once Rosato successfully scans the energon traces, Kwan contacts [[Jon Schloder|Agent Schloder]] to report they've located [[Bumblebee (ES)|Bumblebee]].

[[Twitch]], ready for another day of training, finds [[Hashtag (ES)|Hashtag]], [[Thrash (ES)|Thrash]] and [[Nightshade (ES)|Nightshade]] racing around the field, which [[Robby Malto|Robby]] tells her is helping Bumblebee train for the [[Witwicky 500]]. Twitch is just wondering where Bee is, when the Autobot speeds into view and boosts past the other racers to reach the finish line first. Unfortunately Robby records Bee hasn't improved on his time of 3:36. Bumblebee zooms off for another attempt, while Twitch, annoyed at not doing actual training, starts shooting at Thrash. Bumblebee arrives back in time to separate the pair, and tells them to go cool off in the [[dugout]].

The kids head down to the dugout, where Twitch and Thrash continue to argue. As Twitch is explaining that they need to train, an alarm sounds and the dugout goes into emergency lockdown mode. Nightshade explains that it's a measure they built in that triggers when a G.H.O.S.T. vehicle is detected nearby. Outside, Bumblebee spots Agent Schloder arriving and heads into the barn, only to find the dugout is sealed and he instead has to hide in the barn. Schloder heads into the barn looking for the Malto's sports car and is intercepted by [[Dot Malto]], who claims that the vehicle is in the shop. Over drinks in the kitchen, Scholder shows the trail of photos of Bumblebee winning races across the world and shares his theory that the energon traces found at each location suggest it's Bumblebee. When he shows the Maltos a photo of Bumblebee from the raceway, Alex suggests that maybe Bumblebee scanned his car, and Schloder enlists his help. In the dugout, the kids see the Agent taking Alex away and attempt to leave, only to discover that the dugout is now on lockdown for ten hours, due to a mistake on Nightshade's part, and the manual override fails. Also the escape pods haven't been installed yet.

After Schloder drives off with Alex, Dot goes to have a word with Bumblebee. Bee's been trying to lure out an old friend from [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] who keeps entering races. When Dot points out that Schloder is laying a trap for him, Bumblebee points out he has [[energon suppressor]]s to mask his signature, and also that if he now doesn't show up, Schloder will realize someone is helping him. Dot has a plan.

At the raceway, Bumblebee finds [[Breakdown (ES)|Breakdown]] hiding out in a building. The pair reflect on how the war drove them apart before Bee warns his friend about the trap G.H.O.S.T. have set. Breakdown is confident he can handle it, upsetting Bumblebee who has a family to think about, but further argument is interrupted as the pair have to hide while Cadet Conway wanders past. Breakdown makes a bet with Bumblebee, promising to retire if Bumblebee wins while Bumblebee will give him an energon suppressor if he wins.

Back in the dugout, as the countdown reaches five hours, Twitch is trying to think of ways for them to get out. Thrash is increasingly irritated by this, but as it turns out, Twitch is feeling like too much is depending on her. Thrash reassures her they're all in it together, and they go to watch the race, which [[Hashtag (ES)|Hashtag]] has tuned in to. Schloder and Alex take a seat at the raceway, and as Alex observes the audience are all G.H.O.S.T. agents, they're joined by [[Karen Croft|Agent Croft]]. The cars pull out onto the track, at which point Schloder recognizes Bumblebee and G.H.O.S.T. vehicles crash out onto the track, surrounding the racers before they can even start the race. The agents move in on Bumblebee, only for Dot to step out with the story she's been secretly borrowing Alex's car to race. Croft insists they scan for energon anyway, and Rosato's scanner picks up Breakdown. The Con transforms and does his best to evade the G.H.O.S.T. forces, however during the fight, a rogue projectile hits the pole for a scoreboard, sending it crashing towards Schloder and the agents nearby him. With no other choice, Bumblebee transforms and catches the scoreboard, saving the lives of all present but also revealing himself.

[[File:Breakdown Diversion Attempt SecurityProtocols.jpg|right|300px]]
Still watching in the dugout, Twitch decides she needs out and starts attacking the door with her swords. G.H.O.S.T. soon has Bumblebee pinned down, but when Schloder orders him taken in, Breakdown frees the Autobot only for the pair to immediately be surrounded. Dot rigs a G.H.O.S.T. truck to crash into the arena, making an opening for Bee and Breakdown to escape through. A race ensues, and as the pair head for the only exit, they're blocked by Croft, who manages to force Breakdown to transform by firing at him. Bee tries to get his friend to move, but Breakdown has a new plan involving one of them acting as a diversion. They race towards the barricade, Breakdown taking heavy fire from the G.H.O.S.T. weapons before crashing and allowing Bumblebee to escape.

Croft stops Dot and Alex from leaving, but Schloder believes Bumblebee fooled the Maltos as much as anyone. Croft acquiesces and Schloder gives the Maltos a ride home. They arrive back just as the dugout finally frees the Terrans. [[Mo Malto|Mo]] realizes Bumblebee is missing, and her parents explain that he will have to go into hiding for now, to protect them all. Twitch is especially upset at the news and throws her swords to the ground, despite Thrash's attempts to assure her Bumblebee did what was right.
'''Agent Schloder is hot on the trail of exposing Bumblebee, while a simmering conflict between the Terrans finally boils over.'''

==Synopsis==

'''Breakdown''' lives up to his Stunticon heritage. He may be on the run from [[G.H.O.S.T.]] now that the war is over, but he won't let being a wanted criminal stop him from getting his thrills by joining any race he can. He's fortunate enough, however, to be joined by his old friend [[Bumblebee (ES)|Bumblebee]] in these races; it's the only time the two wanted Cybertronians have a chance to catch up. They may have ended up on opposite sides of the war, but getting the chance to score another win over his old friend makes up for any bad blood they may have.
Breakdown and Bumblebee were good friends back on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] before the war and when war did come between between the [[Autobot]]s and [[Decepticon]]s broke out, the two remained on amicable terms. Stranded on Earth with the destruction of the [[Space bridge]], Breakdown had to go on the run to evade capture by the forces of [[G.H.O.S.T.]] He often caught up with Bumblebee, also a fugitive of the law, in races across across the world which Breakdown as usual always won.

At [[Witwicky (town)|Witwicky]], [[Pennsylvania]], things got serious when Bumblebee informed Breakdown that G.H.O.S.T. was hot on his trail and were scanning all vehicles partaking in the race for Cybertronian Energon signatures. Enticed, rather than alarmed, by the presence of G.H.O.S.T. Breakdown made a wager with his friend; if Bee could finally beat him in a race, Breakdown would stop partaking in races and lay low but if Breakdown won than he'd get Bumblebee's Energon suppressors that made it much easier for his friend to evade detection by G.H.O.S.T. With Breakdown not relenting, Bumblebee agreed.

Things seemed to first be going swimmingly when G.H.O.S.T. performed an Energon check on Bumblebee that turned up nothing and the human, [[Dot Malto]] pretending to be Bee's driver. However, when [[Karen Croft|Agent Croft]] ordered a more thorough scan of all the vehicles, Breakdown realized the jig was up and began trying to fight his way out. He came to Bumblebee's aide, forced to reveal himself to save some humans, and two began trying to outrace the G.H.O.S.T. forces in a bid to escape. While making their way towards the closest exit, Breakdown was incapacitated by a shot from Agent Croft. Taking stock of the situation, Breakdown realized there was no getting out of this and offered his friend one last race. Bumblebee, still focused on getting the both of them out, was taken aback when his friend sped off straight into the direction of the G.H.O.S.T. forces blocking their exit. Taking as many shots as he could, Breakdown used his momentum to hurl Bumblebee over the race track's walls and thus getting his friend to safety. As Bee tried to reach out to get Breakdown, the Stunticon only chuckled and mocked his friend for still being the slow one as he crashed to the surface beneath him. Knocked out, Breakdown was taken into custody by G.H.O.S.T. {{storylink|Security Protocols}}

After their capture, Bumblebee and [[Jon Schloder|Schloder]] were put in the same cell as Breakdown, who watched them play card games. [[Nightshade (ES)|Nightshade]] and [[Twitch]] sprung the captives, and though the pair pleaded for the Decepticons' help in battling [[Mandroid]], Breakdown and the other Decepticons had little interest in defending a planet that had locked them up and left them to it. {{storylink|The Last Hope, Part 1}} Later, hearing of the struggle of the Maltobots and their allies, Breakdown joined other Decepticons in showing up to help. Breakdown lent Bumblebee and Schloder a hand in their battle against Mandroid-controlled Autobots until Mandroid ultimately activated his superweapon, deactivating Autobot and Decepticon alike. A few minutes later, Breakdown and the others came back online thanks to [[Robby Malto|Robby]] and [[Mo Malto|Mo]] reversing the effects of the device. {{storylink|The Last Hope, Part 2}}

Things seemed to first be going swimmingly when G.H.O.S.T. performed an Energon check on Bumblebee that turned up nothing and the human, [[Dot Malto]] pretending to be Bee's driver. However, when [[Karen Croft|Agent Croft]] ordered a more thorough scan of all the vehicles, Breakdown realized the jig was up and began trying to fight his way out. He came to Bumblebee's aide, forced to reveal himself to save some humans, and two began trying to outrace the G.H.O.S.T. forces in a bid to escape. While making their way towards the closest exit, Breakdown was incapacitated by a shot from Agent Croft. Taking stock of the situation, Breakdown realized there was no getting out of this and offered his friend one last race. Bumblebee, still focused on getting the both of them out, was taken aback when his friend sped off straight into the direction of the G.H.O.S.T. forces blocking their exit. Taking as many shots as he could, Breakdown used his momentum to hurl Bumblebee over the race track's walls and thus getting his friend to safety. As Bee tried to reach out to get Breakdown, the Stunticon only chuckled and mocked his friend for still being the slow one as he crashed to the surface beneath him. Knocked out, Breakdown was taken into custody by G.H.O.S.T. {{storylink|Security Protocols}}

After their capture, Bumblebee and [[Jon Schloder|Schloder]] were put in the same cell as Breakdown, who watched them play card games. [[Nightshade (ES)|Nightshade]] and [[Twitch]] sprung the captives, and though the pair pleaded for the Decepticons' help in battling [[Mandroid]], Breakdown and the other Decepticons had little interest in defending a planet that had locked them up and left them to it. {{storylink|The Last Hope, Part 1}} Later, hearing of the struggle of the Maltobots and their allies, Breakdown joined other Decepticons in showing up to help. Breakdown lent Bumblebee and Schloder a hand in their battle against Mandroid-controlled Autobots until Mandroid ultimately activated his superweapon, deactivating Autobot and Decepticon alike. A few minutes later, Breakdown and the others came back online thanks to [[Robby Malto|Robby]] and [[Mo Malto|Mo]] reversing the effects of the device. {{storylink|The Last Hope, Part 2}}
Bumblebee, still focused on getting the both of them out, was taken aback when his friend sped off straight into the direction of the G.H.O.S.T. forces blocking their exit. Taking as many shots as he could, Breakdown used his momentum to hurl Bumblebee over the race track's walls and thus getting his friend to safety. As Bee tried to reach out to get Breakdown, the Stunticon only chuckled and mocked his friend for still being the slow one as he crashed to the surface beneath him. Knocked out, Breakdown was taken into custody by G.H.O.S.T. {{storylink|Security Protocols}}

After their capture, Bumblebee and [[Jon Schloder|Schloder]] were put in the same cell as Breakdown, who watched them play card games. [[Nightshade (ES)|Nightshade]] and [[Twitch]] sprung the captives, and though the pair pleaded for the Decepticons' help in battling [[Mandroid]], Breakdown and the other Decepticons had little interest in defending a planet that had locked them up and left them to it. {{storylink|The Last Hope, Part 1}} Later, hearing of the struggle of the Maltobots and their allies, Breakdown joined other Decepticons in showing up to help. Breakdown lent Bumblebee and Schloder a hand in their battle against Mandroid-controlled Autobots until Mandroid ultimately activated his superweapon, deactivating Autobot and Decepticon alike. A few minutes later, Breakdown and the others came back online thanks to [[Robby Malto|Robby]] and [[Mo Malto|Mo]] reversing the effects of the device. {{storylink|The Last Hope, Part 2}}
[[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] found a way to refine raw Tox-En during the war, converting it into a bioweapon that devastated the Autobots. A sample of the substance came into Autobot possession and was stored in the [[Vaults]] of [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]]. At some point, it ended up on [[Earth]], near a volcano at the equator. It fell into an active lava flow, which carried it some distance away from its projected coordinates, but neither the container nor its contents were damaged.
During the race to find the [[Project Iacon|Iacon relics]], the Tox-En was found by [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]]. Deeming it too dangerous to leave intact, he sought to destroy it in the fiery depths of the volcano. To stall Megatron's own search party—[[Hardshell]] and a group of [[Insecticon (WFC)|Insecticons]]—Bulkhead left a small chunk of Tox-En in the canister, along with a grenade that destroyed the chunk and left one Insecticon with a neck full of toxic shrapnel.

After leaving a false trail of Energon to keep the Decepticons busy, Bulkhead took the remainder of the Tox-En with him on his trek to the top of the volcano. Unfortunately, his earlier ruse forced him to actively carry the toxic substance, rapidly weakening his body and mind as he struggled up the slope. Although the encouragement of [[William Fowler|Agent Fowler]] gave Bulkhead the strength to reach the crater, his fatigue allowed Hardshell and his remaining minions to catch up to him before he could destroy the Tox-En.
After a brief battle between the exhausted Cybertronians, Bulkhead further weakened Hardshell by forcing his face into the Tox-En. As Hardshell staggered back, Bulkhead tossed the Tox-En to him, causing the disoriented Insecticon to fall into the volcano. Although Hardshell survived, the Tox-En was dissolved in the molten rock. {{storylink|Toxicity}}
Meanwhile, Megatron was highly displeased at Hardshell's failure to secure the Tox-En, but the Insecticon managed to soothe his leader's wrath by his willingness to take responsibility for his own failure, as well as his claims of taking Bulkhead offline. Later, when [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]] fought Hardshell, he mockingly asked if the Insecticon couldn't handle an opponent who hadn't been weakened by Tox-En, but Hardshell replied that mid-battle banter was a sign of weakness. {{storylink|Hurt}}
[[File:Scraplets.jpg|upright=1.66|thumb|CRAAAAAWLING OOOOOOOON MY SKIIIIIIIIIN]]
'''Scraplets''' are alleged to be the deadliest disease known to mechanical lifeforms in the entire galaxy. It is a complicated form of alien parasite, which lives solely to eat, reproduce, and eat some more.

Scraplets have evolved to resemble pink and blue nuts and bolts, washers and screws. However, when brought into contact with mechanical life, Scraplets instantly and painfully embed themselves into the skin of said creature and rapidly begin to self-replicate. The [[living metal]] around a Scraplet quickly corrodes, decaying and cracking away as the embedded Scraplet feasts. This process is painful and inevitably fatal for the infected robot. In a matter of hours, a single Scraplet can reproduce enough to completely infest an average-sized Cybertronian to the point of physical breakdown.

Scraplets are capable of transforming into vaguely humanoid robotic configurations, each capable of elementary speech and reasoning abilities. There are many different forms of humanoid Scraplet; the number of limbs, eyes, fangs, and claws vary, though they are all quite tiny by Transformer standards. They use the locomotion afforded by this mode to spread out from a dead or dying host and infect mechanoids whom they might not otherwise be able to come in contact with.

A mass of Scraplets can also merge into a combined humanoid form. In this form they have enormous strength and agility and a primitive group consciousness. However, this form also carries with it some limitations, as they present a larger target and become vulnerable to conventional assault.

Their sense of vision seems to be based on a combination of heat-seeking and metal-detection which is primarily geared towards identifying edible silicon-based life-forms. Carbon-based life-forms are all but invisible to the Scraplet, and usually of no interest.

It is said that there is [[Water|a rare chemical of legend that can kill a Scraplet]], but this is doubtful.

{{bigquote|They pick you apart from the inside out, going for the small, juicy bits first, fuse by fuse, circuit by circuit, until there's nothing left. When [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]] needed to transport the first prototype [[Wash and Roll]] to [[Earth]], he hired a [[freighter pilot]] to fly the cargo there. Emerging from warp space in Earth's [[Solar System]], the pilot exited the craft to perform some necessary repairs. As he did, the ship passed through what seemed to be a cloud of space dust. The "dust" rapidly infected the pilot, who lost control of the ship as it crashed on Earth.

Not hearing back from the pilot, Ratbat sent the Decepticon [[Triple Changer]]s to investigate. They found the stricken pilot near the crashed ship, but didn't get very far in interrogating him about his failure before they too were infected. When Blaster and Goldbug arrived, Blaster landed in the crater and was soon infected as well. The freighter pilot survived long enough to warn [[Bumblebee (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Goldbug]] about the infection, just before his head fell off. The Scraplets charged toward the tasty-looking Goldbug, who was defended by his human friend [[Charlie Fong]]. But as the two headed off to try and find a cure, Goldbug hesitated, reluctant to abandon Blaster, and he too was infected. Hours later, the infection was so widespread that Goldbug couldn't continue driving. {{storylink|Crater Critters}}

[[File:Scraplets duplicate Marvel US issue 29.jpg|upright=1.4|thumb|Scraplet reproduction. Woo!]]
Made aware of the infection by [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]], Ratbat decided to take decisive action to contain it. Rather than risk more Decepticon lives, he captured [[Throttlebot|five Autobots]] and sent them to Earth. His mission for them: use vats of acid spray to destroy all infected Transformers on the planet, Autobot and Decepticon alike!

Charlie Fong pushed Goldbug through the desert to a service station, where the appalled attendants offered him a glass of water. Charlie was shocked when he spilled some on Goldbug to see the Scraplets die and fall off. Holy crap, pinball wizard and a miracle cure: ''water!!''

[[File:Scraplets robot mode Marvel US issue 30.jpg|left|upright=1.4|thumb|And you thought girls had cooties...]]
Before Charlie could grab a hose to "wash his car", the attendants restrained him, thinking he was delusional. Two of the Throttlebots arrived just then, regretfully attempting to destroy Goldbug; only Charlie's interference saved him, as he demonstrated the miracle cure. Satisfied, [[Rollbar (G1)|Rollbar]] and [[Wideload (G1)|Wide Load]] stood by while Charlie hosed down Goldbug, curing him.

Goldbug and company returned to the crash site with two tankers of water to save Blaster, but couldn't do so without also curing the three Decepticons. Before they could take action, thousands of the Scraplets combined into a muscular mauve giant, bashing the weaponless Throttlebots around. Goldbug cured the Decepticons, who used their firepower to bring down the giant, which Blaster then destroyed with one of the acid vats. Ratchet would later claim that several ''Lost Light'' crew members were at risk of being infected by "super-scraplets", a breed of scraplet with the ability to [[Teleportation|teleport]]. First Aid recognized these supposed scraplets as a complete fabrication and an excuse for Ratchet to talk to the crew members in private. {{storylink|Our Steps Will Always Rhyme}}

While Brainstorm's [[Contrivance Engine]] was highly active, an infestation of Scraplets were accidentally transported onto the ''Lost Light'' in a crate of sub-space filtered [[engex]]. Disoriented and looking for safety, they merged into a form that any Cybertronian would deem harmless—that of a newly-formed [[protoform]]. They were discovered by Whirl, [[Swerve (G1)|Swerve]] and [[Nautica (G1)|Nautica]], who were taken in by the camouflage. However, circumstances forced Whirl to go and flush the pseudo-protoform out an airlock, at which point the Scraplets altered their form to appeal to him specifically, forming a face of a singular (red) optic and claws for hands. Once again taken in, Whirl hid them inside himself, starving his own spark of energy to make room for them. Later, Nautica discovered their true nature and had them quarantined by [[Velocity (G1)|Velocity]] in the medibay, though they retained an affinity with Whirl. {{storylink|Silent Light}}

Another Scraplet breed was the Red Scraplets, a sub-species the size of a Cybertronian optic. In sufficient numbers, these ravenous creatures could reduce an average-sized mech down to their [[life cord]] in under thirty seconds. Like their smaller counterparts, they were capable of combining with one another into larger forms. {{storylink|The Plotters' Club (Part 2): Filling in the Blanks|Filling in the Blanks}} {{storylink|Crucible (Part 1): A Dance Before Dying|A Dance Before Dying}} To cover up his [[Time case|experiment]], [[Brainstorm (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Brainstorm]] smuggled a group aboard, hoping to train them to feed on the temporal energy. {{storylink|Crucible (Part 1): A Dance Before Dying|A Dance Before Dying}}
After assuming command of the ''Lost Light'', [[Getaway]]'s attitudes and manipulations soon undid any support he once had. To keep his hold on the ship, he enlisted the employ of [[Sunder (G1)|Sunder]] who demanded life cords in exchange for use of his remote [[mnemosurgery]] skills. To that end, Getaway bartered with the Scraplets in the medibay and placed them in the ship's oil reservoir, dumping twenty-five "undecideds" to be eaten alive by the creatures. After [[Riptide (G1)|Riptide]] had tried to help the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]] escape, Getaway threw him in the reservoir after using his [[nudge gun]] to make the [[Hydrobot (G1)|Hydrobot]] forget how to [[Transformation|transform]]. {{storylink|The Plotters' Club (Part 2): Filling in the Blanks|Filling in the Blanks}} Owing to his low intelligence, the Hydrobot proved immune to the gun's effects and he managed to transform to boat mode, evading the predators long enough to launch himself out of the reservoir. {{storylink|The Plotters' Club (Part 3): Journey's End|Journey's End}}
After the ''Lost Light'' had found [[Cyberutopia]], they discovered it was in fact [[Mederi]]. Upon aligning himself with the [[Adaptus|Grand Architect]], Getaway baited a trap for [[Team Rodimus (G1)|Team Rodimus]] by flooding Shuttle Bay 4 with the contents of the oil reservoir. The Scraplets then combined into a monstrous form to devour their prey, {{storylink|Crucible (Part 1): A Dance Before Dying|A Dance Before Dying}} before [[Grimlock (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Grimlock]] promptly cleaved them in twain. Undeterred, the predators recombined into a serpentine form only for the Luna 1 Scraplets to recognize Whirl and force the swarm to stand down. Whirl later directed the Scraplets to attack Getaway with the group using Mederi's telepathic field to present themselves as [[Primus]] to the escapologist. Once they'd fed on him, the Scraplets combined into a Transformer-sized version of themselves. {{storylink|Crucible (Part 2): Lūstrāre|Lūstrāre}} Whirl then quarantined the swarm back in the medbay forcing the injured crewmembers to instead be taken to the observation deck. {{storylink|Crucible (Part 3): Farsickness|Farsickness}}
[[File:PrimeScrapletsEp7.gif|left|upright=1.95|thumb|So now we know what [[Mecannibal]] babies look like.]] The Scraplets were frozen in a large container in the [[Arctic]]. The Autobots, wishing to research the container, brought it into their base to thaw, only to have the Scraplets chew through their prison and escape. [[Raf Esquivel|Raf]], while investigating the base, discovered a Scraplet scuttling around, and thought it was some kind of Autobot pet. He decided to play catch with the creature and threw a bolt, which the Scraplet promptly devoured and promptly identified with Raf rather adorably, with behaviour not unlike a cat. Raf carried the Scraplet to the inner area of the base where [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]], [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]], and [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] were working. As soon as they saw the Scraplet, all three panicked, and tried to explain how dangerous it could be to them.

Raf thought it to be harmless, and that Ratchet was mistaken, until the Scraplet spotted the Autobots, leapt out of his arms and chewed large scratches into Bumblebee's leg. Raf smashed it, but Ratchet guessed that there would surely be more Scraplets around. His fear was confirmed when they found the empty container, and he sent Bulkhead, [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]], Raf, and Bumblebee to hunt them down while he tried to repair the Scraplets' damage with [[Jack Darby|Jack]] watching his back. The Scraplets ambushed Bulkhead and Bumblebee and a swarm of them flew down from the ceiling and began chewing on Ratchet. The creatures were initially fended off by the three children, who were not considered food by the Scraplets. The Scraplets had done considerable damage to many systems, and it was up to the children to fix them. They fixed the Energon supply cable that fed the [[GroundBridge]], bringing it back online. The Autobots formulated a plan to both get rid of the Scraplets, and bring back [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus]] and [[Arcee (WFC)|Arcee]], who were stranded in the Arctic, on the verge of freezing to death. Activating the now operational GroundBridge, Bulkhead decided to act as bait to draw the scraplets through. There were still plenty of Scraplets on the dead Cybertron. A sizable cluster of them managed to find their way into the passageway beneath [[Kaon (polity)|Kaon]] that led to [[Vector Sigma]]. When Jack passed through to Vector Sigma, the Scraplets followed him. While they had no interest in him, once the mega computer started charging [[Key to Vector Sigma|the Key]], the Scraplets started feasting on the empowered access board. Despite Jack's attempts to remove them, the Scraplets proved too many. Fortunately, an [[Insecticon (WFC)|Insecticon]] had also followed Jack down the passageway, but stopped short when it saw the infestation of Scraplets, showing that it too was afraid of them. Jack quickly used this to his advantage by dislodging a live Scraplet and throwing it at the giant insect. Sensing a living Cybertronian, the scraplets quickly went to town on the Insecticon. In a matter of seconds, the Scraplets chewed through the Decepticon sentry's limbs, causing it to fall over into the deep pit below. A while ago, a meteor landed on Earth with chunks of iron ore all around. Unfortunately, this meteor also housed Scraplets, which began eating at the natural metals in the impact crater. They would only be discovered several years later, when [[Boulder (RB)|Boulder]] led a class of Rescue Bot recruits on a field trip to the crater. Attacking the class upon their intrusion of their burrows, the recruits were sealed in a cave to keep them safe, though a juvenile Scraplet was sealed with them. Starscream later led a group of his children to invade the [[Nemesis (Cyberverse)|''Nemesis'']], the Scraplets sucking dry the [[energon]] of Starscream's former comrades, though [[Megatron (Cyberverse)|Megatron]] was able to send a distress signal that brought the Autobots to his warship, only to find the sheer number of Scraplets overwhelming. When [[Optimus Prime (Cyberverse)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Windblade (Cyberverse)|Windblade]] confronted Starscream on the flagship's bridge, the Seeker claimed that one of the Scraplets was [[Alpha Trion (Cyberverse)|Alpha Trion]] who wanted the [[Matrix of Leadership]] back. Following this, Starscream captured Cheetor to try and absorb his mystical powers. Cheetor saved his friend by dousing the [[Seeker (Cyberverse)|Seekers]] in liquid energon, the Scraplets' ravenous appetite leading them to attack their allies. The similar idea led to Shockwave kidnapping Wheeljack in a failed attempt to combine their intellect and resources to track down Starscream, but it did provide Shockwave with Wheeljack's [[drone controller]], giving the Decepticons a way to gain control of the Scraplet horde. [[Bludgeon (Cyberverse)|Bludgeon]] made his own studies into Scraplet biology and weaknesses, hacking a gaggle of them to pieces outside the ''Nemesis''. {{storylink|Secret Science}}
The Scraplets were later brought to the AllSpark cavern by Starscream to help him fight off the Autobots and Decepticons that had come to procure the relic. The now-feral beings, despite getting briefly controlled by Shockwave's devices, were presumably destroyed in a cave-in resulting from the aforementioned skirmish. {{storylink|I Am The Allspark}}
:''[[Transformers: Cyberverse (toyline)|Cyberverse]]'' Scraplet is based on the character's appearance in the ''Cyberverse'' cartoon. While the figure does not convert into a vehicle or beast, Scraplet can switch between a quadrupedal and a bipedal stance. Pressing a button behind its head opens the mouth to reveal its inner ring of teeth and activates a spinning gimmick for more jaw-dropping action. The bottom jaw is also hinged to open up further. The back legs are ball-jointed at the hip, but a tab on each limits its range of motion.
==Notes==
*While using round dialogue bubbles for humans and square dialogue bubbles for robots, letterer [[Janice Chiang]] used various polygons for Scraplet-speak.
*The Scraplet stories were two of Budiansky's favourite stories to write, though he'd got them confused with [[Mecannibal]]s.<ref>[http://traffic.libsyn.com/moonbase2/BobBinterview.mp3 Bob Budiansky interview at Moonbase 2]</ref>
*The Scraplets in ''Prime'' are somewhat different from their earlier portrayals; they lack any [[alternate mode]] or combining abilities, they all look the same, and their weakness has changed from water to extreme cold temperatures. Additionally, they can fly as a swarm, and make dentist drill sounds when hungry. They also lack the spontaneous reproduction of the earlier version of Scraplets, although Ratchet's claim that "there's never just ''one''" implies that they are fast breeders.

Not hearing back from the pilot, Ratbat sent the Decepticon [[Triple Changer]]s to investigate. They found the stricken pilot near the crashed ship, but didn't get very far in interrogating him about his failure before they too were infected. When Blaster and Goldbug arrived, Blaster landed in the crater and was soon infected as well. The freighter pilot survived long enough to warn [[Bumblebee (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Goldbug]] about the infection, just before his head fell off. The Scraplets charged toward the tasty-looking Goldbug, who was defended by his human friend [[Charlie Fong]]. But as the two headed off to try and find a cure, Goldbug hesitated, reluctant to abandon Blaster, and he too was infected. Hours later, the infection was so widespread that Goldbug couldn't continue driving. {{storylink|Crater Critters}}

[[File:Scraplets combined mode Marvel US issue 30.jpg|upright=1.4|thumb|"NOBODY steps on a church in my town!"]]
Goldbug and company returned to the crash site with two tankers of water to save Blaster, but couldn't do so without also curing the three Decepticons. Before they could take action, thousands of the Scraplets combined into a muscular mauve giant, bashing the weaponless Throttlebots around. Goldbug cured the Decepticons, who used their firepower to bring down the giant, which Blaster then destroyed with one of the acid vats. The remaining water was used to remove the Scraplets which infected the Throttlebots during the battle, and the outbreak on Earth was at an end. {{storylink|The Cure!}}

Ratchet would later claim that several ''Lost Light'' crew members were at risk of being infected by "super-scraplets", a breed of scraplet with the ability to [[Teleportation|teleport]]. First Aid recognized these supposed scraplets as a complete fabrication and an excuse for Ratchet to talk to the crew members in private. {{storylink|Our Steps Will Always Rhyme}}

While Brainstorm's [[Contrivance Engine]] was highly active, an infestation of Scraplets were accidentally transported onto the ''Lost Light'' in a crate of sub-space filtered [[engex]]. Disoriented and looking for safety, they merged into a form that any Cybertronian would deem harmless—that of a newly-formed [[protoform]]. They were discovered by Whirl, [[Swerve (G1)|Swerve]] and [[Nautica (G1)|Nautica]], who were taken in by the camouflage. However, circumstances forced Whirl to go and flush the pseudo-protoform out an airlock, at which point the Scraplets altered their form to appeal to him specifically, forming a face of a singular (red) optic and claws for hands. Once again taken in, Whirl hid them inside himself, starving his own spark of energy to make room for them. Later, Nautica discovered their true nature and had them quarantined by [[Velocity (G1)|Velocity]] in the medibay, though they retained an affinity with Whirl. {{storylink|Silent Light}}

Another Scraplet breed was the Red Scraplets, a sub-species the size of a Cybertronian optic. In sufficient numbers, these ravenous creatures could reduce an average-sized mech down to their [[life cord]] in under thirty seconds. Like their smaller counterparts, they were capable of combining with one another into larger forms. {{storylink|The Plotters' Club (Part 2): Filling in the Blanks|Filling in the Blanks}} {{storylink|Crucible (Part 1): A Dance Before Dying|A Dance Before Dying}} To cover up his [[Time case|experiment]], [[Brainstorm (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Brainstorm]] smuggled a group aboard, hoping to train them to feed on the temporal energy. {{storylink|Crucible (Part 1): A Dance Before Dying|A Dance Before Dying}}

After assuming command of the ''Lost Light'', [[Getaway]]'s attitudes and manipulations soon undid any support he once had. To keep his hold on the ship, he enlisted the employ of [[Sunder (G1)|Sunder]] who demanded life cords in exchange for use of his remote [[mnemosurgery]] skills. To that end, Getaway bartered with the Scraplets in the medibay and placed them in the ship's oil reservoir, dumping twenty-five "undecideds" to be eaten alive by the creatures. After [[Riptide (G1)|Riptide]] had tried to help the [[Protectobot (G1)|Protectobots]] escape, Getaway threw him in the reservoir after using his [[nudge gun]] to make the [[Hydrobot (G1)|Hydrobot]] forget how to [[Transformation|transform]]. {{storylink|The Plotters' Club (Part 2): Filling in the Blanks|Filling in the Blanks}} Owing to his low intelligence, the Hydrobot proved immune to the gun's effects and he managed to transform to boat mode, evading the predators long enough to launch himself out of the reservoir. {{storylink|The Plotters' Club (Part 3): Journey's End|Journey's End}}

After the ''Lost Light'' had found [[Cyberutopia]], they discovered it was in fact [[Mederi]]. Upon aligning himself with the [[Adaptus|Grand Architect]], Getaway baited a trap for [[Team Rodimus (G1)|Team Rodimus]] by flooding Shuttle Bay 4 with the contents of the oil reservoir. The Scraplets then combined into a monstrous form to devour their prey, {{storylink|Crucible (Part 1): A Dance Before Dying|A Dance Before Dying}} before [[Grimlock (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Grimlock]] promptly cleaved them in twain. Undeterred, the predators recombined into a serpentine form only for the Luna 1 Scraplets to recognize Whirl and force the swarm to stand down. Whirl later directed the Scraplets to attack Getaway with the group using Mederi's telepathic field to present themselves as [[Primus]] to the escapologist. Once they'd fed on him, the Scraplets combined into a Transformer-sized version of themselves. {{storylink|Crucible (Part 2): Lūstrāre|Lūstrāre}} Whirl then quarantined the swarm back in the medbay forcing the injured crewmembers to instead be taken to the observation deck. {{storylink|Crucible (Part 3): Farsickness|Farsickness}}

Raf thought it to be harmless, and that Ratchet was mistaken, until the Scraplet spotted the Autobots, leapt out of his arms and chewed large scratches into Bumblebee's leg. Raf smashed it, but Ratchet guessed that there would surely be more Scraplets around. His fear was confirmed when they found the empty container, and he sent Bulkhead, [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]], Raf, and Bumblebee to hunt them down while he tried to repair the Scraplets' damage with [[Jack Darby|Jack]] watching his back. The Scraplets ambushed Bulkhead and Bumblebee and a swarm of them flew down from the ceiling and began chewing on Ratchet. Jack discovered that by using a fire extinguisher, one could freeze the Scraplets to death.
The creatures were initially fended off by the three children, who were not considered food by the Scraplets. The Scraplets had done considerable damage to many systems, and it was up to the children to fix them. They fixed the Energon supply cable that fed the [[GroundBridge]], bringing it back online. The Autobots formulated a plan to both get rid of the Scraplets, and bring back [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus]] and [[Arcee (WFC)|Arcee]], who were stranded in the Arctic, and on the verge of freezing to death. Activating the now operational GroundBridge, Bulkhead decided to act as bait to draw the scraplets through. There were still plenty of Scraplets on the dead Cybertron. A sizable cluster of them managed to find their way into the passageway beneath [[Kaon (polity)|Kaon]] that led to [[Vector Sigma]]. When Jack passed through to Vector Sigma, the Scraplets followed him. While they had no interest in him, once the mega computer started charging [[Key to Vector Sigma|the Key]], the Scraplets started feasting on the empowered access board. Despite Jack's attempts to remove them, the Scraplets proved too many. Fortunately, an [[Insecticon (WFC)|Insecticon]] had also followed Jack down the passageway, but stopped short when it saw the infestation of Scraplets, showing that it too was afraid of them. Jack quickly used this to his advantage by dislodging a live Scraplet and throwing it at the giant insect. Sensing a living Cybertronian, the scraplets quickly went to town on the Insecticon. In a matter of seconds, the Scraplets chewed through the Decepticon sentry's limbs, causing it to fall over into the deep pit below. The scraplets followed the doomed Insecticon as it plummeted. {{storylink|Orion Pax, Part 3}}
A while ago, a meteor landed on Earth with chunks of iron ore all around. Unfortunately, this meteor also housed Scraplets, which began eating at the natural metals in the impact crater. They would only be discovered several years later, when [[Boulder (RB)|Boulder]] led a class of Rescue Bot recruits on a field trip to the crater. Attacking the class upon their intrusion of their burrows, the recruits were sealed in a cave to keep them safe, though a juvenile Scraplet was sealed with them. The rest were trapped by Boulder, Heatwave and Cody Burns in an ice cream truck lined with fiberglass. The recruits eventually made it out with the young Scraplet, and the entire species was rocketed to a moon with enough iron ore to last them a lifetime. {{storylink|Metal Munchers}}

Boulder obtained five Scraplets and, believing they could be trained to work with bots, assigned the recruits the task of doing so. The recruits were skeptical but began attempting to train the critters, even assigning them names, however the volotile nature of the Scraplets made them hard to control. [[Medix (RB)|Medix]] eventually stumbled on the fact that they responded to the sound of a [[Rubber Ducky]] and was able to rig up a "[[Ducktaphone]]" which he successfully used to instruct the Scraplets to prevent a power reactor explosion on Cybertron. {{storylink|How To Train Your Scraplet}}
While attempting to sabotage a game of [[Cube (sport)|Cube]], Starscream mocked the sport's AI for being designed by Scraplets. {{storylink|Cube (episode)|Cube}}

After seizing the [[AllSpark]] and Vector Sigma, [[Starscream (Cyberverse)|Starscream]] had [[Acid Storm (Cyberverse)|Acid Storm]] use the latter to reprogram the former and birth forth an army of Scraplets. {{storylink|Dark Birth}}

Well and truly off his rocker, Starscream claimed the Scraplets were the reborn [[spark]]s of ancient Cybertronian legends such as [[Zeta Prime (Cyberverse)|Zeta Prime]], [[Solus Prime]], and the noble [[The Fallen|Megatronus]]. When [[Slipstream (Cyberverse)|Slipstream]] attempted to flee, the Scraplets lunged at her, one of them managing to cripple her arm, but she still managed to turn to jet mode and escape. {{storylink|Parley}}

Starscream later led a group of his children to invade the [[Nemesis (Cyberverse)|''Nemesis'']], the Scraplets sucking dry the [[energon]] of Starscream's former comrades, though [[Megatron (Cyberverse)|Megatron]] was able to send a distress signal that brought the Autobots to his warship, only to find the sheer number of Scraplets overwhelming. When [[Optimus Prime (Cyberverse)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Windblade (Cyberverse)|Windblade]] confronted Starscream on the flagship's bridge, the Seeker claimed that one of the Scraplets was [[Alpha Trion (Cyberverse)|Alpha Trion]] who wanted the [[Matrix of Leadership]] back. Though the Scraplets managed to open the Prime's chest and expose the talisman, they were defeated when [[Cheetor (Cyberverse)|Cheetor]], who denounced the Scarplets as sparkless beasts, made physical contact with the AllSpark, the energy wave deactivating them and restoring their victims. {{storylink|Starscream's Children}}

Following this, Starscream captured Cheetor to try and absorb his mystical powers. Needing to test this process, Starscream began transferring [[Bumblebee (Cyberverse)|Bumblebee]]'s spark into a Scraplet. Cheetor saved his friend by dousing the [[Seeker (Cyberverse)|Seekers]] in liquid energon, the Scraplets' ravenous appetite leading them to attack their allies. One Scraplet managed to follow the Autobots back to the [[Ark (Cyberverse)|''Ark'']], being turned over to [[Wheeljack (Cyberverse)|Wheeljack]] for study. {{storylink|Spotted}}

Using his specimen, Wheeljack attempted to use its homing instincts to track down the other Scraplets only for it to run into [[Shockwave (Cyberverse)|Shockwave]]'s specimen. The similar idea led to Shockwave kidnapping Wheeljack in a failed attempt to combine their intellect and resources to track down Starscream, but it did provide Shockwave with Wheeljack's [[drone controller]], giving the Decepticons a way to gain control of the Scraplet horde. [[Bludgeon (Cyberverse)|Bludgeon]] made his own studies into Scraplet biology and weaknesses, hacking a gaggle of them to pieces outside the ''Nemesis''. {{storylink|Secret Science}}

The Scraplets were later brought to the AllSpark cavern by Starscream to help him fight off the Autobots and Decepticons that had come to procure the relic. However, during the battle, the Seeker was overpowered and, thus, lost control over the Scraplets. The now-feral beings, despite getting briefly controlled by Shockwave's devices, were presumably destroyed in a cave-in resulting from the aforementioned skirmish. {{storylink|I Am The Allspark}}

Megatron evidently still kept a number onboard the ''Nemesis'', and the beasts were used to prevent anyone from taking the only route to the Vector Sigma chamber. {{storylink|Battle For Cybertron III}} As the tide of the climatic battle between the Autobots and Decepticons managed to turn, Optimus punched the Decepticon Leader into the path of the Scraplets, who began feeding off of him. {{storylink|Battle For Cybertron IV}}
==Notes==
