'''A new group of Autobots are born in the USA, and must thwart the Decepticons' attempts to steal sound energy from a rock concert.'''

==Synopsis==
[[File:Skidsgrapplesmokescreenhoisttracks.jpg|thumb|left|upright=1.4|We'll help, Meatloaf! '''But how?''']]
[[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]] has been brought to life by [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Optimus Prime]] and now undergoes the [[Rite of the Autobrand]] to become a full member of the [[Autobot]]s. Optimus gives him a tour of [[Ark (G1)|the Ark]], including a stop in the medical bay, where [[Ratchet (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Ratchet]] is struggling to repair a large group of Autobots recently damaged in battle. Fortunately, Optimus Prime has a way to replenish his depleted forces: before the Ark left [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] four million years ago, five Autobots agreed to let Optimus copy their minds into [[crystalline containment vessel]]s in the event that he needed new warriors on his mission. Now, [[Wheeljack (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Wheeljack]] installs those minds into new bodies constructed by the Ark—and [[Grapple (G1)|Grapple]], [[Hoist (G1)|Hoist]], [[Skids (G1)|Skids]], [[Smokescreen (G1)|Smokescreen]], and [[Tracks (G1)|Tracks]] live for a second time! Optimus Prime welcomes the new arrivals and instructs [[Bumblebee (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Bumblebee]] to take them out on the road to help them acclimate them to their new home town—all save for Grapple, that is, who Prime requests stay behind and put his architectural expertise to work helping him on an secret project.

Off the coast of Portland, [[G.B. Blackrock]] is escorted intelligence operative [[Walter Barnett (G1)|Walter Barnett]] to the naval fleet surrounding his [[oil-drilling platform]], previously captured by the [[Decepticon]]s, on which the leaderless [[Starscream (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Starscream]], [[Skywarp (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Skywarp]], and [[Thundercracker (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Thundercracker]]—now find themselves trapped. [[Shockwave (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Shockwave]] chooses that moment to make his dramatic return, flying through the barrage of human firepower and landing on the rig just in time to squelch the mewlings of [[Starscream (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Starscream]]. Shockwave unveils to the three jets the [[power siphon]] he has built in his absence—a device that can convert any source of energy into a form of fuel usable by Transformers known as [[energon cube]]s. Shockwave demonstrates by converting some of the platform's [[oil]] into cubes, then announces his plan to steal "a large release of sonic energy." The Decepticons take flight, evading the naval fleet by detonating one of the cube in mid-air, blinding their attackers with the blast. But all is not lost; microphones planted in the oil platform's supports allowed the humans to overhear the Decepticons' plans, and the information is soon relayed by Blackrock to the Autobots.

[[File:RockandRollOut facsimilies.jpg|right|thumb|upright=2.5]]

Bumblebee teaches the new Autobots the importance of following human road signs, and helps them test out the additional disguise provisions Wheeljack has equipped their vehicle modes with: panels to hide their Autobot [[insignia]], and "[[Facsimile construct]]" mannequins that make it appear there are drivers behind their wheels. The group pulls into a Blackrock gas station to fuel up (by way of [[Blackrock Gold Priority Card|the arrangement they have with the owner]]), where [[Skids (G1)|Skids]] hears the music of [[Brick Springstern]] on the radio and learns from a station attendant about an upcoming concert at [[Municipal Stadium]]. Optimus Prime contacts the group to pass on Blackrock's intel and Skids puts two and two together, deducing that the Decepticons are planning to hit the concert.

Barnett, meanwhile, is summoned to [[Washington, D.C.]] to meet with his boss [[Forrest Forsythe]], from whom he learns that a civilian couple witnessed Shockwave's departure for the rig from the mainland. Hysteria is spreading amongst humanity thanks to the presence of the Transformers, and, under pressure from the [[White House]], Forsythe orders him to come up with some kind of cover story to explain the continued sightings of giant alien robots.

[[File:Brickspringhornandthetenthavenueband.jpg|left|thumb|350px]]

Bumblebee's team arrive at the concert stadium, but fail to observe the sign that instructs them to pay for parking, leading to some security guards chasing after them through the parking lot. Realizing their mistake but unable to do anything about it, the 'bots simply retract their facsimile "drivers," leaving the guards flummoxed. They listen in as the concert begins, but soon detect a disruption in the sound of the music. They spot a strange cable hanging in the rigging above the stage, but in order to investigate, they need to enter a backstage area marked with a sign that forbids "unauthorized vehicles"... so Bumblebee decides the "sign-reading" portion of his curriculum is a little to advanced for his class, and smashes the gate down so they can get inside. The cable turns out to be leading underground, and when Hoist severs it, Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp burst out of the ground. Despite Optimus's order not to engage before he arrives with reinforcements, Bumblebee orders the new Autobots to open fire. The resultant exchange of blasts damages the rigging, and while Skids, Tracks, and Smokescreen battle the jets, Hoist gets to work repairing the structure before it collapses, urging the shocking Springstern and his band to keep playing and act like it's all part of the show to keep the crowd from panicking. Bumblebee, meanwhile, discovers the power siphon underground and wrecks it; furious, a vengeance-seeking Shockwave decides to incinerate the audience, but Bumblebee stops him by hurling an energon cube into his barrel just as he fires. The cube detonates, hurling the helpless Shockwave off into the distance, the jets fleeing after him. Unfortunately, though they have won the battle, the Autobots finds themselves immediate objects of suspicion from the crowd, who lump them in with the Decepticons. The group quickly pull out and head back home, running into Optimus Prime and his reinforcements on the way. Bumblebee is prepared to accept a reprimand, but Prime is impressed with his team's performance and trusts that Bumblebee did what he felt was best. Bumblebee affirms that he did, having learned that "the show must go on!"
==Quotes==
"To quote the old Cybertronic proverb, '''Jetfire''' -- 'May your luster never dull, and your wires never cross!'"
:— '''Optimus Prime''' welcomes the newest addition to the Autobot ranks

"...Understand that only common cause and mutual agreement bind one Autobot to another. By commanding, it is '''I''' who serve -- for that is what the other Autobots ask of me. If ever they should want me to step down, I will. If ever you want to leave, you may. That is the right of every Autobot."
:—'''Optimus Prime'''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s noble speech was forgotten [[Used Autobots|later on]]. Even by [[The Pri¢e of Life!|himself]].

"Wait! Another sign! Remember Optimus' instructions!"<br>
"But 80,000 humans were looking forward to this concert -- and the Decepticons are possibly '''ruining''' it!"<br>
"Y'know, Skids... I think sign-reading is too advanced for this training session. We haven't '''once''' gotten it right yet." '''''BONK'''''
[[File:MarvelUS14-Jetfire-RiteOfTheAutobrand.jpg|thumb|right|upright=1.5|By returning this coupon '''today!''']]
*Jetfire has been brought online using the Creation Matrix at some point between this issue and his last appearance in [[Prime Time!|issue #12]]. The UK series inserted the exclusive story "[[Dinobot Hunt!]]" between these two stories which also featured Jetfire as a living 'bot.
*The Autobots in the repair bay were all injured during the events of issue #12. The UK series had to massage this point a little; it was not immediately obvious in issue #12 that these characters had been injured to such a serious extent, and several subsequent UK stories showed them all to still be functional. So it was the aforementioned UK-exclusive story "Dinobot Hunt!" featured many of the Autobots receiving serious injuries under different circumstances, thereby creating a "new" reason that would explain to UK readers why they were in the repair bay.
**That said, of the 'bots actually shown in this issue, only Cliffjumper, Gears, Huffer, and Sideswipe were injured in "Dinobot Hunt"; Hound, Prowl, and Jazz survived in still-functional condition. Their presence on the injured list is essentially ignored by the UK series going forward, as they, and several other characters injured in the US storyline but not in "Dinobot Hunt!", will continue to appear in future UK stories.
*Thundercracker and Skywarp were last seen in [[The Worse of Two Evils!|issue #6]]. They have apparently been on the captured Blackrock oil platform ever since then, having been joined by Starscream following his last appearance in [[DIS-Integrated Circuits!|issue #9]]. This isn't true for the UK continuity, though; the UK series inserted the story "[[Crisis of Command!]]" into the narrative, which showed the trio active on the mainland.
*Shockwave returns after a brief absence, following the events of issue #12 in which he sank into a swamp. The UK series inserted multiple stories between these two, making Shockwave's disappearance a more protracted one.
*'''Bot Roster:'''
**''Autobots:'' 17 active as Jetfire, Skids, Tracks, Hoist, Grapple, and Smokescreen join the ranks; 12 offline (29 total)
**''Decepticons:'' All 17 active (albeit scattered) as Shockwave returns
===Transformers references===
[[File:Energoncubesrockandrollout.jpg|right|thumb|upright=1]]
*Energon cubes, the preferred form of energy used by the Decepticons in the [[The Transformers (cartoon)|Generation 1 cartoon]], make their first appearance in comic continuity with this issue (right), as elements of the franchise begin to converge towards the end of its second year.

===Real-life references===
*The couple who see Shockwave are named Brad and Janet, after the protagonists of ''{{w|The Rocky Horror Picture Show}}''.
*"Brick Springstern" is, of course, a parody of real-life singer {{w|Bruce Springsteen}}, just as his backing group the "Tenth Avenue Band" are a reference to both Springsteen's {{w|E Street Band}} and the song "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out." The band's saxophone player is referred to as "Big Man," the real-life nickname of E Street Band sax player {{w|Clarence Clemons}}. Springsteen songs parodied in the issue include:
**"{{w|Dancing in the Dark (Springsteen song)|Dancing in the Dark}}" as "Dancing in the Night"
**"{{w|Born to Run (song)|Born to Run}}" as "Born to Ride"
**"{{w|Born in the U.S.A. (song)|Born in the U.S.A.}}" as "Born in America"
**"{{w|Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)}}" as "Margarita (Jump a Little Lighter)"
*Forsythe's office appears to be inside the {{w|United States Capitol}} building.
*An advert on the stadium walls advertising real-life, not-parody-named band [[The Bangles]] as next week's attraction.
===Continuity and plotting errors===
*If Ratchet is having so much trouble fixing the damaged bodies of the existing Autobots, how is it that the Ark can construct bodies for new Autobots from scratch so easily?
===Artwork and technical errors===
[[File:RockandRollOut toyaccurate hoist.jpg|right|thumb|upright=2|For these panels, Hoist is suddenly drawn using his toy for reference, likely because his rear-view character model (top left) was not available.]]
*Blackrock is missing his mustache again this issue, as previously occurred in [[Warrior School!|issues #7]], [[Repeat Performance!|8]] and [[The Next Best Thing to Being There!|10]].
*Hoist's [[character model]] doesn't seem to have been quite ready for this issue. A frontal-view model was evidently good to go, as he looks okay throughout most of the issue, but on page 19, when his back needs to be visible, both it ''and'' Hoist's head have clearly been drawn using the toy itself as reference (right). Further, Hoist spends the entire issue in an incorrect "early" color scheme that makes his left hand green and his right forearm and gun silver-white (both toy accurate, but per his finalized Marvel colors they should be blue-black) and his legs above the ankle solid orange (there should be sections of silver-white in there)
*Page 2:
**Panel 1: Bluestreak is colored as Prowl; he's also toting his gun around for no reason.
**Panel 5: Prime's first speech balloon points to Jetfire.
*Page 3, panel 1: Hound's shoulder cannon is colored as if it is part of the background.
*Page 7:
**Panel 3: For its first appearance, the power siphon is colored a greyish-purple, when it is green throughout the rest of the issue.
**Panel 6: For just this panel, Shockwave's got his early-color-scheme dark blue shoulders again. The power siphon is colored a yellowish-green, as opposed to the greyish-green of later pages.
*Page 12, panel 5: Tracks has covered up the flame decal on his hood to hide his Autobot symbol at this point, but the colourist doesn't seem to get this and colors a "u"-shape on his hood yellow anyway.
*Page 14, panel 6: Tracks's hood is miscolored again; no yellow this time, just the central vent panel colored solid red.
*Page 15, panel 6: Springstern's surname is given as "Springhorn" by the narrator.
*Page 16, panel 2: Tracks has the red panel on his hood again.
*Page 17, panel 5: Starscream's head is white, and his chest intakes are a blue-white-red pattern, instead of solid blue.
*Page 20, panel 7: Smokescreen's arms are red instead of blue, and his thighs are red instead of white.
*Page 21, panel 3: Tracks's feet are red instead of blue as they fold up while he transforms.
*Page 22:
**Panel 3: One more red panel on Tracks's hood for good measure. Vehicle-mode Wheeljack is colored in Bluestreak-grey.
**Panel 4: Optimus Prime's truck mode has been drawn using the toy as reference for this page for some reason. It should have a blank red section of cab between the silver stripe and the headlight; this is colored correctly in panel 3, but in this panel, the stripe and blank section's colors are swapped.
===Other trivia===
[[File:Burger Shed.jpg|right|thumb]]
*Following fluctuating appearances in past issues, both Jetfire and Wheeljack settle down into their finalized Marvel color schemes this issue.
*This issue introduces the new [[Autobot Cars]] from the 1985 toy range, but for reasons unknown, [[Inferno (G1)|Inferno]] and [[Red Alert (G1)|Red Alert]] are not included. In fact, Red will ''never'' appear in the US series, while Inferno will only show up in an alternate future timeline in [[Rhythms of Darkness!|issue #67]], and in a non-speaking cameo in [[A Savage Circle|issue #78]]. This frees the pair up to get a little more face time in various UK-exclusive stories, but why they wound up being excluded from the US series in the first place is a total mystery.
*The new Autobots are explicitly said to be created from ''copies'' of the minds of Autobots made on Cybertron before the Ark left the planet four million years go. So... does this mean the original Tracks, Skids, et al, could still be running around on Cybertron or somewhere? (Budiansky was asked that decades later, and cheerfully admitted he has ''no idea''.<ref>[https://web.archive.org/web/20160518042814/http://rustingcarcass.yuku.com:80/topic/954/t/Bob-Budiansky.html#.WsK_1IiuzIU Interview at Rusting Carcass]</ref>)
====IDW ''Transformers Classics'' edits====
For ''[[The Transformers Classics]]'' series of trade paperbacks, IDW Publishing "remastered" the coloring of the series with varying degrees of success. These changes were sometimes to fix errors, but often to alter characters' color schemes to make them resemble their toy and/or cartoon selves, and were rarely applied with consistency. IDW's recolored version was also used for Hachette's ''[[Transformers: The Definitive G1 Collection|Definitive G1 Collection]]''.
*Page 4, panel 5: Smokescreen's nose is now incorrectly colored blue.
*Page 7: in both the panels in which it appears, the power siphon is recolored greyish-green to match its later appearances.
*Page 9, panel 2: Skywarp's cockpit is now miscolored blue instead of the correct orange from the original.
*Page 12, panel 5: The yellow on Tracks's hood is changed to red; this still isn't right.
*Page 15, panel 6: "Springhorn" is corrected to "Springstern" to match the rest of the issue.
*Page 17, panel 5: The brownish-orange of the rubble has been shifted to a more yellowish hue, there's a weird pinkish-orange shadow under Starscream's chin, and Skywarp's white eye is now incorrectly colored the same blue as his head.
*Page 22: Rather than ''correct'' panel 4 to move Prime's silver stripe, panel 3 is altered to match the incorrect panel 4.
'''Ratchet discovers the fate of the other Autobots, and must fight Megatron on his own.'''

==Synopsis==
Walking through the [[Mount Hood National Forest|woods]] in search of a road to drive [[Buster Witwicky (G1)|Buster]] home, [[Ratchet (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Ratchet]] and Buster meet up with a group of campers. As Ratchet demonstrates [[Laser scalpel|a new way to cook]] [[hot dog]]s, Buster experiences a severe head pain as an after-effect of his experience with [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Optimus Prime]]. Buster is taken home by the campers, leaving Ratchet free to deal with bigger problems.

[[File:Laserbeakwarriorschool.jpg|thumb|left]]
[[Soundwave (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Soundwave]] and [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] use their innocuous alternate forms to infiltrate and take over another [[Blackrock Enterprises]] installation, this time [[Blackrock Aerospace Assembly Plant Number One|an aerospace plant]] that builds jet fighters. [[G.B. Blackrock|Blackrock]] breaks the news to a hospitalized [[Circuit Breaker (G1)|Josie Beller]], who apparently designed this aerospace plant as well. Blackrock swears that the giant robots will be stopped, but Josie is already making plans of her own.

Ratchet returns to the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] alone to verify Buster's findings, and soon finds the inert [[Autobot]]s. He despairs upon finding the head of Optimus Prime, but Prime counsels him to fight as a warrior to defeat [[Megatron (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Megatron]]. Uncertain of what this might mean, Ratchet agrees.

[[Jesse (G1)|Jessie]] and [["O"]] attempt to cheer up Buster, who is wondering how to handle [[Sparkplug Witwicky|his father's]] [[S. Witwicky Auto Repairs & Tow Service|flagging car repair business]] while he's recovering in the hospital. Buster explodes at the pair when they suggest that he can learn to repair cars just as easily as his hard-working father. After they leave, Buster is gripped by another head-splitting pain—and recovers to realize that several metal objects nearby were apparently floating in the air.

Ratchet soon finds Megatron, who easily overpowers him. But when Shockwave contacts Megatron with orders to prepare Optimus Prime for transport, Ratchet realizes that Megatron has lost command of the Decepticons, a potential weakness. He manages to strike a deal, sealed with the sacred [[Rite of Oneness]]: Ratchet will destroy [[Shockwave (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Shockwave]], in exchange for the return of the Ark and the [[Autobot]]s inside. If he fails, Megatron will destroy him; if he succeeds, Megatron resumes his leadership of the [[Decepticon]]s and wins regardless.
"Forgive me, humans! My intrusion upon your ceremonies was purely unintentional. The terrain of your planet is often uneven, quite unlike that of my home planet '''Cybertron'''. I lost my footing and accidentally nudged this brown pipe out of its mooring. Permit me to correct my error."
===Continuity notes===
[[File:Warrior School! Cybertron.jpg|upright=0.6|thumb]]
*Footnotes remind the reading audience of the events of [[The Worse of Two Evils!|last issue]], including the shock Optimus Prime gave Buster; Shockwave's attack on Blackrock's oil rig and the injuries Jose Beller suffering during it; Buster's discovery of the Autobots deactivated bodies; and Megatron's battle with Shockwave and Ratchet witnessing its aftermath.
*Sparkplug continues to recover from the mild heart attack he suffered, which a footnote reminds us happened in [[The Last Stand|issue #4]].
*Though Jessie will return in future issues, "O" takes Buster's instruction on page 16 to "leave him alone" rather literally; he will never appear in the comic again after this issue.
*Megatron gives us new info about events from [[The Transformers (issue)|issue #1]], recapping why Shockwave stayed behind during the attack on the Ark (he planned the attack and stayed behind as backup) and his subsequent battle with the Dinobots as shown in issue #4. During his flashback (page 21, panel 1, pictured), we see a Cybertronian building with a "honeycomb"-style window-dome; a similar building appeared in issue #1 (page 1, panel 4).
*You'd never suspect it to read this issue in isolation, but the interaction between Megatron and Ratchet in this story is the first in a series of confrontations that will occur across the whole length of the Marvel series. They will actually have more dramatic face-offs in Marvel US continuity than Megatron and Optimus Prime!
*'''Bot Roster:'''
**''Autobots:'' Ratchet active; 16 inactive plus Optimus Prime held captive; 5 Dinobots missing in action
**''Decepticons:'' 11 active

===Real-life references===
*Ratchet and Buster encounter the campers in Oregon's real-life [[Mount Hood National Forest]]. Since he just left the Ark on foot and hasn't found a road, Mount St. Hilary must be ''very'' close to Mount Hood.
* Buster's home is in [[Portland]].
*Ratchet states he is "a doctor, not a warrior," imitating the famous catchphrase of ''[[Star Trek]]''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s [[Doctor McCoy]].
*Buster mentions President and CEO of the Chrysler Corporation, [[Lee Iacocca]], while despairing over repairing the cars at his dad's garage.

===Continuity and plotting errors===
*At the end of last issue, Buster was wearing his trademark pink t-shirt, but this issue, he has changed into a white t-shirt and jacket. He hasn't been home yet to change (since that's where he and Ratchet are headed when they meet the campers) so his new wardrobe goes unexplained. It's compounded somewhat by the fact artist William Johnson remembers to draw Buster in his pink tee in the flashback to the events of the previous issue.
*Buster is described as having been "blasted with a coruscating beam of energy" by Optimus Prime last issue, when in fact, Prime "electrocuted" him via two wires pressed to either side of Buster's head.
*Megatron was defeated by Shockwave while still recovering from his damage. He seems to be fully repaired now, making it a little unclear why he should need Ratchet's help.

===Artwork and technical errors===
*On the issue's cover art, Megatron is missing the gun barrel on his back.
*Ratchet's fluctuating prototypical red-white-and-blue color scheme which he has had in the series up to this point final settles down this issue into his finalized Marvel color scheme—all white with a red helmet and fists. The multiple thin red stripes that run around his forearms in this story, however, will be steadily phased out over the course of the series.
*On the flipside, Soundwave spends the duration of this issue colored ''blue''; it matches his [[character model|animation model]], toy, and the UK comic, but within the context of the US Marvel comic, it's actually an error, since he's always purple in its pages.
*G.B. Blackrock spends this issue without his mustache, and error that will repeat a few times in these early appearances of the character.
*As previously seen in issues [[Prisoner of War!|#3]] and #4, Megatron's Decepticon insignia is once again off-center, shifted over to the right of his chest, as result of the artist misinterpreting the geometry of his character model.
*Page 5, panel 7: The coloring makes it look like the beam from Ratchet's laser scalpel stops at his wrist and doesn't actually hit the hot dogs.
*Page 7, panel 3: Ferdy states that he likes "to punch in ''one'' time" to work, rather than ''on'' time.
*Page 14, panel 2: After being shown as little more than a torso in [[The New Order|issue #5]], Ironhide is now mostly intact again.
*Pages 14-15: Johnson draws Optimus Prime's head as missing its "antenna ears," when they were attached to it in the previous two issues.
*Page 18: Megatron's fusion cannon has its own little Decepticon symbol! Cute, but definitely not part of his standard design!
*Page 20, panel 5: Ratchet says he will help Megatron "defend Shockwave" when he clearly means "defeat Shockwave".
*Page 22, panel 4: The speech bubble that begins "This much I knew or Shockwave told me..." is attributed to Ratchet, but the dialogue belongs to Megatron.

===UK printing===
*'''Published:''' [[September 7|7th September]], 1985
*'''[[Back-up strips]]:''' ''[[Robo-Capers]]'', ''Chromobots'' and ''Matt and the Cat''. ''Chromobots'' concludes this issue.
*This issue was the first and only instance of a full issue of the US comic being reprinted in one UK issue, instead of split into multiple parts. This was because this was the final issue of the UK series to printed in a mixture of colour and black-and-white; the series went full-colour from the next issue onward as part of a design revamp. With both back-up strips (''Machine Man'' and ''Planet Terry'') having reached the end of their current stories last issue, rather than start any ''new'' back-ups one month before the whole look and format of the comic was changed, this issue just reprinted a full US issue to fill out the pages.

===Other trivia===
[[File:Larry hama transmissions.jpeg|upright=0.8|thumb|[[G.I. Joe (franchise)|G.I. Joe]]: Not for wimps, apparently]]
*This issue's [[Letters page|Transmissions]] page notes that [[Larry Hama]] kept a ''prototype'' of [[Jetfire (G1)|Jetfire]] on his desk in the [[Marvel Comics|Marvel]] offices. Wonder if he's still got it?
*At some point, CardsOne, a company that deals in vintage comics, trading cards, and collectibles, acquired a large stock of unsold copies of IDW Publishing's ''[[The Transformers: Generations]]'' reprint of this issue (cover variant "A"). *IDW's ''[[Classic Transformers]]'' reprint of this issue censored an editor's note on page 22 that identified the [[Savage Land]]. The note was restored for future reprints.
*Page 7, panel 6: Gabe's forearms are incorrectly recolored to become the same golden-yellow as his lunchbox.
*Page 8, panel 3: As he transforms, Soundwave's torso is also incorrectly recolored that same golden-yellow color.
*Page 23, panel 6: Text recreation incorrectly changes Megatron's use of the word "command" to the misspelled "cummand," misintepreting a half-faded "o" in the original printing and re-drawing it as a u.
'''The Autobots, Joe and Cobra devise a plan to deal with Power Station Alpha.'''

==Synopsis==
The [[Autobot]]s, together with their new allies from [[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]] and [[Cobra]], take refuge inside the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] as the area is shook with earthquakes from the effects of [[Power Station Alpha]]. At the Decepticon base, [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] instructs [[Bombshell (G1)|Bombshell]] to dispose of [[Doctor Mindbender]] but he is saved by the intervention of the [[Baroness]]. The two Cobra agents depart, taking Bombshell with them in insect mode, and depart for [[Seattle]], where they are due to rendezvous with a team from G.I. Joe.

[[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] arrives at the Joes' base to inspect the remains of [[Bumblebee (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Bumblebee]] and is pleased to learn that not only is he still alive but that [[Mainframe (G.I. Joe)|Mainframe]] has already begun reconstructing him. With Ratchet's help, the work is soon completed and Bumblebee announces from now on he wishes to be known as Goldbug. Mindbender and Baroness arrive and Mainframe's investigation of the [[cerebro-shell]] retrieved from [[Anthony Duranti]] is shown to allow them to control Bombshell.

Meanwhile, debate ranges about the fate of Alpha. Both [[Serpentor]] and [[Ace]] think it should be destroyed but [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] is worried that, after the Decepticons' modifications, Alpha may now be a sentient being whilst [[Hawk (G.I. Joe)|Hawk]] is concerned about the loss of life if Alpha is destroyed in a populated area. It is eventually decided that a small team consisting of Goldbug, [[Scarlett]] and Baroness will plant explosives on Alpha which can be detonated if necessary. In order to prevent the [[Decepticon]]s intervening, a combined Autobot, Joe and Cobra force will attack their base.

As the attack begins, [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] dispatches a group of Decepticon planes to counter the aircraft and also has the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]] combine into [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]]. The [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]] counter by becoming [[Superion (G1)|Superion]] and battling their opposite number.

Mainframe and Mindbender work out a way to use the cerebro-shell and electronic helmet to control Alpha and send the power station to an unpopulated area. Without permission, Baroness sets the timers on the charges and Alpha explodes harmlessly in orbit. Cobra hastily withdraw from the scene of the battle whilst Mindbender also slips away. Not entirely convinced the Joes weren't in on Cobra's plan, Blaster tells them that with the immediate crisis averted they should leave the Decepticons to them in the future. Ratchet signals that he and Goldbug are on their way back to the Ark.

Later, Hawk watches on as [[Barbara Larkin|Senator Larkin]] is taken into custody, only to be shot by a gunman working for Cobra.

==Notes==
[[Image:Goldbugorigins.jpg|thumb|180px|right|One of these happens in the issue.]]
*[[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] is mentioned but not seen.
*Blaster is clearly implied to be in acting command of the Autobots following the death of [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Optimus Prime]].
*Ratchet rebuilds Bumblebee as Goldbug. He will [[Skin Deep|later rebuild Goldbug as Bumblebee]], saying he preferred him that way. [[Bumblebee (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity#Conflicting Goldbug origins|Maybe he decided he'd made a mistake, turned him back into Bumblebee while he was asleep, only for him to be destroyed again and rebuilt by Wreck-Gar.]] Stranger things have happened...
*Baroness seemingly wanders into Decepticon base, takes out Bombshell with a single shot (an achievement in itself), then wanders out again with Mindbender. That's great security.
*Similarly, the Decepticons have a massive force assembled around their base but don't bother to leave anyone guarding Alpha.
*Senator Larkin's grave stone gives the date as December 1986.
*By a happy coincidence, the encounter with [[Snake-Eyes]] that Mindbender referred to was printed in the UK Transformers comic, simplifying the footnote no end when they printed the story.
*Anthony recovered from what was basically full brain surgery ''incredibly'' quickly. Normally, a patient in his situation wouldn't be out of the hospital until 3 weeks later, at the earliest.

===Errors===
*In addition to [[Power Struggle|another anomalous appearance by Ravage]], Starscream, Thundercracker and Skywarp are all shown among the Decepticons at the base. All three of them were captured by the Autobots in "[[Command Performances!]]" and in US continuity they wouldn't be freed until "[[Totaled!]]".
*A total of seven [[Seeker (body-type)|Seekers]] are seen taking off from the Decepticon base but only Starscream, Thundercracker, Skywarp, Thrust and Ramjet are named. Since [[Dirge (G1)|Dirge]] was killed in the previous issue, it's unclear who the other two are meant to be.
*Although all six Constructicons are pictured, Shockwave only refers to Mixmaster, Hook, Long Haul, Bonecrusher and Scavenger.
*In "Power Struggle", Mindbender was able to control Alpha with the helmet alone, but here he apparently also needs the cerebro-shell.
'''The Decepticons' theft of Power Station Alpha is co-opted by Cobra, leading to an unstable alliance.'''

==Synopsis==
[[Superion (G1)|Superion]] accuses the [[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]] team of killing [[Bumblebee (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Bumblebee]] and demands what is theirs. This is more enough for the Joes to react the way every other branch of the human military reacts when confronted with a giant robot. Superion is forced to return their fire, but just as things are escalating to the point where he may have to use lethal force, he receives a message that [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Optimus Prime]] [[Afterdeath!|has been killed]] and all [[Autobot]]s are to return to the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]]. Abruptly, he abandons the battle.

At the [[Club Con|Decepticon base]], a disinterested [[Megatron (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Megatron]] watches as the [[cerebro-shell]] planted by [[Bombshell (G1)|Bombshell]] causes [[Power Station Alpha]] to take off on remote control (while [[Hawk (G.I. Joe)|Hawk]] is busy canoodling with Senator [[Barbara Larkin]]). Noting his leader's lethargy, [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] comes to the conclusion that he will have to take command of the Decepticons.

The theft of Station Alpha is also observed by [[Cobra]], and [[Doctor Mindbender]] uses an electronic helmet to take control of the cerebro-shell and redirect the station towards them. A group of Cobra aircraft is sent to escort it, but they come under attack from the Joes. The air battle is observed from a nearby pleasure cruiser by [[G.B. Blackrock]] and a group of anonymous, bikini-clad beauties. [[Serpentor]] notices the boat and tells the Joes that he will destroy it if they don't stand down. [[Barbara Larkin|Senator Larkin]] advises destroying Alpha, but [[Hawk (G.I. Joe)|Hawk]] knows that this will cause a dangerous radioactive plutonium fallout and orders his men to stand down. Cobra then fire on the boat anyway, forcing the Joes to spend time evacuating its occupants. Blackrock overhears them discussing their recent encounter with "giant, shape-changing vehicles" and tells them he might be able to help them.

Meanwhile, [[Anthony Duranti]], the boy Bombshell used as a decoy, has been left in a catatonic state by the cerebro-shell. An x-ray shows it lodged in his brain, and the doctors elect to try and remove it by surgery.

Serpentor and Mindbender witness the arrival of Station Alpha, but it is closely followed by [[Dirge (G1)|Dirge]] and Bombshell, who explain the Decepticons' interest in the station. Mindbender hastily suggests an alliance after planting a listening device on Dirge. Later, he overhears Shockwave informing the two Decepticons of his plan to convert Alpha into a device to tap into the Earth's natural energy...a plan Mindbender realises will destroy the planet.
}}

==Notes==
*The reference to the death of Optimus Prime places the early part of this issue and the late stages of the previous one at the same time as "[[Afterdeath!]]".
*In addition to the hasty disappearance of Optimus Prime and Megatron from the storyline, [[Cobra Commander]] has apparently been killed since the last issue. (He was actually buried alive and believed dead, along with Destro. They remained MIA for the remainder of this series, reflecting their separation from Cobra during this period.)
*Anthony has a [[toy]] Bumblebee. Maybe this story takes place in the same universe as the [[Letters page (Marvel UK)|Marvel UK letters page]].
*Although the existence of Transformers seems to be fairly common knowledge, the Joes act as though they have never heard of them.
*Ravage was last seen stuck down a mineshaft in "[[Showdown!]]". It is unknown how he escaped. In the UK continuity, he was trapped until "[[Time Wars]]". In the US continuity, after this miniseries he isn't seen again until "[[Eye of the Storm]]", where [[Mindwipe (G1)|Mindwipe]] believes he hasn't been seen since the events of "Showdown".

===Errors===
*Last issue, Hawk was present when Superion arrived at Fort Lewis. In this issue, the rest of G.I. Joe has to contact him about Superion's arrival because he is hanging out with the congressmen elsewhere in the base.
*Blaster is colored in red with a blue head, joints, and hands in his one-panel appearance.
*Dirge is colored mostly blue with an orange cockpit area and wings.
*Rattlers are colored green at times.
*The X-14 Skystriker is repeatedly colored green.
*In the panel where Lift-Ticket is shown downing a Rattler, he's gone from piloting a [[Tomahawk (G.I. Joe)|Tomahawk]] to piloting a generic green fighter plane.
*Megatron is seen moping around the Decepticons' [[Club Con|new base]] in the [[Florida Keys]]. It is technically possible this happened between panels 1 and 2 on page 21 of "[[Gone but Not Forgotten!]]", that is, after he arrived at the new base but before the events leading up to his apparent suicide. However, in "Gone but Not Forgotten!" he had extensive battle damage to his face the whole time he was at the new base, but in this issue his face was fine.
*Anthony suddenly has black hair in this issue, whereas in Issues 1 & 4 he is blonde.
* Contains an introductory note, several pages long, detailing the development of the North American ''Transformers'' franchise, the key roles of Jim Shooter and Bob Budiansky, and launch of the toys, comics and cartoons.
* Throughout the volume, notes are included explaining behind-the-scenes decisions and problems, such the #3 inclusion of Spider-Man and the previous IDW rights issues with Circuit Breaker, whose appearances are restored in their respective issues.
* Due to the inclusion of the issues' original covers and the aforementioned notes, some page repositioning occurs, where, in the original monthly comic, the 1st page of every issue would be on the left, it now starts on the right in some cases, shuffling all the issue's pages over by one.
* Though it contains the original covers, the MARVEL logo is removed from the corner comic box (since it's a IDW property now) and the bar code box is left empty.
==Notes==
* Contains an introductory note, several pages long, detailing the development of the North American ''Transformers'' franchise, the key roles of Jim Shooter and Bob Budiansky, and launch of the toys, comics and cartoons.
- Throughout the volume, notes are included explaining behind-the-scenes decisions and problems, such the #3 inclusion of Spider-Man and the previous IDW rights issues with Circuit Breaker, whose appearances are restored in their respective issues.
* Do to the inclusion of the issues' original covers and the aforementioned notes, some page repositioning occurs, where, in the original monthly comic, the 1st page of every issue would be on the left, it now starts on the right in some cases, shuffling all the issue's pages over by one.
* Though it contains the original covers, the MARVEL logo is removed from the corner comic box (since it's a IDW property now) and the bar code box is left empty.
'''Ratchet discovers the fate of the other Autobots, and must fight Megatron on his own.'''

==Synopsis==
Walking through the [[Mount Hood National Forest|woods]] in search of a road to drive [[Buster Witwicky (G1)|Buster]] home, [[Ratchet (G1)|Ratchet]] and Buster meet up with a group of campers. As Ratchet demonstrates [[Laser scalpel|a new way to cook]] [[hot dog]]s, Buster experiences a severe head pain as an after-effect of his experience with [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. Buster is taken home by the campers, leaving Ratchet free to deal with bigger problems.

[[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] and [[Laserbeak (G1)|Laserbeak]] use their innocuous alternate forms to infiltrate and take over another [[Blackrock Enterprises]] installation, this time [[Blackrock Aerospace Assembly Plant Number One|an aerospace plant]] that builds jet fighters. [[G.B. Blackrock|Blackrock]] breaks the news to a hospitalized [[Circuit Breaker|Josie Beller]], who apparently designed this aerospace plant as well. Blackrock swears that the giant robots will be stopped, but Josie is already making plans of her own.

Ratchet returns to the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] alone to verify Buster's findings, and soon finds the inert [[Autobot]]s. He despairs upon finding the head of Optimus Prime, but Prime counsels him to fight as a warrior to defeat [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]].

But he manages to strike a deal, sealed with the sacred [[Rite of Oneness]]: Ratchet will destroy [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]], in exchange for the return of the Ark and the [[Autobot]]s inside. If he fails, Megatron will destroy him; if he succeeds, Megatron resumes his leadership of the [[Decepticon]]s and wins regardless.

==Notes==
[[Image:Warrior School! Cybertron.jpg|100px|right|thumb|]]
* The UK issue #26 printed the entire comic, though several pages were without color.
* This issue was reprinted as issue #1 of [[IDW Publishing]]'s ''[[The Transformers: Generations|Generations]]'' series.
* [[The Worse of Two Evils!|And now]] it's a jet plant that has its own heavy artillery. Is that even legal?
* Blackrock has his own hospital: the [[Blackrock Chronic Care Institute]].
* Ratchet states he is "a doctor, not a warrior," a ''Star Trek'' reference.
[[Image:Larry_hama_transmissions.jpeg|100px|right|thumb|[[G.I. Joe (franchise)|G.I. Joe]]: Not for wimps, apparently]]
* The Decepticon base seen in Megatron's flashback sequence looks nothing like [[Castle Decepticon]], which in the [[The Transformers (issue)|first issue]] was established as Megatron's base of operations. Presumably then, it is the base Shockwave possessed before coming to Earth. Meanwhile, the building drawn in front of it seems to be inspired by a building seen in the first issue.
* This issue's [[Letters page|Transmissions]] page notes that [[Larry Hama]] kept a ''prototype'' of Jetfire on his desk in the [[Marvel Comics|Marvel]] offices. Wonder if he's still got it?
* At some point, CardsOne, a company that deals in vintage comics, trading cards, and collectibles, acquired a large stock of unsold copies of the Generations reprint of this issue (cover variant "A"). These copies were bagged with a second random comic book and a random trading card, then sold via Dollar Tree stores around Easter of 2012.
* IDW's [[Classic Transformers]] reprint censored an editor's note on page 22 that identified the [[Savage Land]]. The note was restored in "[[The Transformers Classics, Vol. 1]]" reprint.

===Errors===
* The beam from Ratchet's laser scalpel isn't actually hitting the hot dogs.
* Soundwave is actually colored blue here. It matches his animation model, but within the context of the Marvel comic, it's actually an error, since he's always purple elsewhere.
* After being shown as little more than a torso in issue #5, Ironhide is now mostly intact again.
* Megatron's Decepticon [[insignia]] is consistently off-center to the left. This is most likely due to the way his character model was drawn. See [[Megatron (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity#Notes|the note on Megatron's page]] for more information.
* As he first confronts Ratchet, Megatron's fusion cannon has its own little Decepticon symbol!
* Buster's flashback shows him being hit by an energy wave from Optimus Prime's head. However, in the last issue, he received an energy surge by connecting two cables from Prime's head to his own.
* On page 20, Ratchet says he will help Megatron "Defend Shockwave" when he clearly means "defeat Shockwave".
* On page 22, the bubble that points to Ratchet stating "This much I knew or Shockwave told me" should probably be pointing to Megatron (Ratchet hasn't yet met Shockwave on [[Earth]]), but why couldn't they have just done the whole thing in one bubble?
* It's not explained how Buster got a change of clothes before the start of this issue. At the end of the last issue (#6) he was hunkered down with Ratchet outside The Ark. At the beginning of Warrior School (#7), he has a jacket and white t-shirt, not his previous trademark pink shirt. He hasn't been home yet to change, since that's where he and Ratchet are headed when they meet the campers and it's implied that only hours have gone by for the two of them since leaving The Ark.

===References===
* Ferdy and Gabe talk about the Decepticons' theft of Blackrock's oil rig ("[[The Worse of Two Evils!]]"), just before taking Soundwave in so he can do the same to the plant at which they work.
* Megatron recaps why Shockwave stayed behind during the attack on the Ark (new info about events from issue [[The Transformers (issue)|#1]]) and his subsequent battle with the Dinobots ("[[The Last Stand]]").
