The packaging even included Sideswipe's instructions and sticker sheet, neither of which were of much use for the toy. Furthermore, the ''Alternators'' version sports additional "blackwash" [[paint operation]]s on his chest the ''Binaltech'' version lacks.

:The Dodge Viper sculpt was originally designed to be a new body for [[Tracks (G1)/toys|Tracks]] after the first attempt to secure the Corvette license had fallen through. Eventually, though, Chevrolet had a change of mind and granted Hasbro and Takara the license for the Corvette design after all. As a result, the Viper mold was slightly redesigned, was given a new head sculpt and released as Sideswipe (or "Side Swipe") instead. This explains why, unlike most of the early Alternators toys, Side Swipe's robot mode bears little resemblance to his G1 self. The most noticeable redesign from the "Tracks" design was the vehicle mode's doors being moved from the "backpack" kibble (where they would have resembled the G1 Tracks toy's wings) to the sides of the arms, thus being the most obvious visual cue taken from the G1 Sideswipe toy. The doors are, however, still splayed out to the sides in the ''Alternators'' version's [[package art]] and can be moved to match Tracks's wing configuration, which implies that the redesign may have been done before the switch from Tracks to Sideswipe was made.

:The version of Generation 1 Sideswipe previously released as part of Takara's "Transformers Collection" series, albeit with its spring-loaded launcher de-sprung [[for safety reasons]], was reissued by [[Hasbro]] under the modified name "Side Swipe" as part of their [[The Transformers: Generation One Commemorative Series|Commemorative Series]] VIII, one of the last American reissues. However, because [[Toys"R"Us]], who had carried the Commemorative Series as an [[exclusive]] line up until that point, had abruptly decided to discontinue the line, Side Swipe was only released in very low quantities in the United States; in fact, his availability at TRU was considered a myth for many years. The unsold stock was made available a year later through [[KB Toys]] stores and outlets, at half the original price. The figure ''was'', however, available at Toys"R"Us stores in Australia and Canada in 2004 in average quantities.

:In 2012, several Commemorative Series figures, among them Side Swipe, were re-released in Hasbro's Asian markets, in slightly altered packaging. Unlike most of the other figures from this batch, Side Swipe retained the "Commemorative Series VIII" label on his box; however, the background color of the "choking hazard" safety warning label was changed from red to black, the Hasbro logo was updated to the then-current version, and the "+" after the "Ages 5+" recommendation was increased in size. Oddly, even though Hasbro had started spelling the name of toys of the character as "Sideswipe" again in 2008, this release still rendered the name as "Side Swipe".

Though the car is mostly based upon the Gallardo, to avoid legal problems, it also features modified headlights and elements taken from other cars—most of them are taken from other Lamborghini models, such as a rear end that is basically a cross between a {{w|Lamborghini Murciélago|Murciélago}} and a {{w|Lamborghini Diablo|Diablo}}; however, the split side windows and the ridges on the door vents are based on a {{w|McLaren F1}}. He also comes with the same roof-mounted engine supercharger accessory as Sunstreaker. Hasbro's early plans for Sunstreaker and Sideswipe had the two as straight redecos of each other, only differing in their head sculpts besides their colors—namely, Sunstreaker would have just been Sideswipe in yellow with a different head. :Hasbro also originally intended the [[alternate mode]]'s supercharger to split into two halves which would then become the handgun and a spring-loaded shoulder launcher for the robot mode. On the final toy, the Flare Launcher (a redeco of Sunstreaker's Electron Pulse Blaster) can be combined with the removable supercharger engine accessory by wrapping the intakes around the gun and mounted in either of the holes on his shoulders to simulate Sideswipe's Generation 1 missile launcher. Of course, this leaves him without a hand-held weapon. The engine can also be mounted on Sideswipe's back as his [[Jet pack|rocket pack]]. Most of this is not shown in the [[instructions]], which only instruct the owner of the toy to put the gun in his hand and attach the supercharger to his back.

:This figure uses the ''[[Transformers: Generations (toyline)|Generations]]'' [[Red Alert (G1)#Generations|Red Alert]] version of the mold, which includes two screw holes in the canopy (rather than one like ''Henkei! Henkei!'' Alert or none like all other versions of this mold). The samples [[Shawn D. Tessmann|Shawn Tessmann]] had on display used the original version of the mold, and lacked the screw holes. Despite the mold change, the lightbar was not included. These holes replace the slots used to mount the rocket pack in robot mode. As an unintended result of having empty screw holes over the rocket pack sockets, Sideswipe can now mount his gun inside either screw hole on the roof of his car mode.

Like all ''Shining Version'' kits, Sideswipe features a new LED torso frame that emits a blue light to shine through the optics if shaken (or flicked/tapped). Similarly, his stand is the usual shining version (new, bigger shape with 2 studs). Whether due to the thin torso piece or the LED's strong illumination, the light-up torso also inadvertently lights up the chest from within.

:Released as part of the Golden Lagoon-based 2025 Yearly Box Set, this kit of Sideswipe is a redeco of the Shining Version kit in shiny gold paint and plastic. The figure includes a golden back piece meant to plug in whenever the jetpack isn't used. The included blaster effect accessory is made out of two smaller pieces and is a new mold, unrelated to the 'fire' accessories for the jetpack. The base plate uses the same mold as the Shining version, cast in transparent yellow plastic. There are three accessories for the base plate: two 'explosion' effect pieces and a thin printed plastic sheet to cover it, which the 'explosions' also keep in place.

: Like the rest of the Yearly kits in this set, Sideswipe features mustard yellow-colored plastic for his pre-assembled hinge joints, reducing potential breakage from gold plastic syndrome.

'''Spinister''' is mysterious... ''terribly'' mysterious. A closed book to the Decepticons, Spinister is a dark menace to his Autobot enemies. Often, the first warning of his approach is the gentle note of a detonating fusion bomb or the delightful hiss of metal boiling away under an assault of charged particles from his beam cannon. How he is so terribly sneaky is unclear, but rumor has it that he has developed a cloaking device that he has kept a secret from his fellow 'Cons. Quiet and mysterious, that's how he likes to be, and that's how he intends to stay. One must wonder how much even his binary-bonded [[Targetmaster (technology)|Targetmaster]] companions [[Singe]] and [[Hairsplitter]] know about him.

This grim air warrior seems far more independent of mind than the common Decepticon, though he doesn't go in for the outright mutiny for which [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]] is noted. When he spots unrecognized potential in the Decepticon ranks, however, he may well bring the would-be warrior under his tutelage without the knowledge or permission of his superior officers. Actually speaking his mind would prevent the whole mysterious, shadow-warrior thing from working, after all.

Then again, the guy might just be a paranoid dumbass who'd shoot a torch just because it "looked at him funny." He's actually a bit of a savant when it comes to re-wiring things, though.

Also, his name is cooler than [[Slayride]] and [[Sinnertwin (G1)|Sinnertwin]] combined.

They investigated why Autobots were patrolling a sector of space, taking a group of Autobots as prisoner on the planet [[Pz-Zazz]]. {{storylink|Bird of Prey!}} The hostages revealed the search for the [[Matrix of Leadership|Creation Matrix]], inflaming Thunderwing's obsession to obtain the artifact. The Mayhem Attack Squad were soon taken to [[Cheyne]], where Spinister and Ruckus took down [[Dogfight (G1)|Dogfight]] for Thunderwing. Spinister tried to warn him of the madness taking over, only to have Thunderwing fire on his own troop. The shock of having shot one of his loyal soldiers drove home the point for Thunderwing, but it was too late, and the Matrix completely overtook his thoughts. Spinister, [[Needlenose (G1)|Needlenose]], and [[Windsweeper]] accompanied [[Crankcase (G1)|Crankcase]] and [[Ruckus (G1)|Ruckus]] in delivering battle plans to [[Megatron (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Megatron]], the former three acting as the group's rear guard. The Autobots learned of the delivery and planned to ambush them, but their mission was botched by [[Backstreet (G1)|Backstreet]], who gave away his faction's presence prematurely. Spinister and the other Decepticons were provoked into starting a firefight that endangered the inhabitants of nearby [[Rivers' Town]]. Panicked over his mistake, Backstreet wound up going on the run from his fellow Autobots. Learning of the situation, Megatron had his troops track down the fugitive in the hopes of recruiting him to their faction. Spinister found the runaway squatting in an abandoned amusement park, and reported so to his leader. But though Megatron ordered him not to engage Backstreet, Spinister found the temptation of roughing up the isolated Autobot too strong to resist. He and [[Scoop (G1)#Trigger-Happy!|Scoop]], the first Decepticon to converge on his position, attacked Backstreet together. On his arrival, Megatron was enraged by his soldiers' "show of initiative," and violently saw them off before they could do any lasting damage. While Carnivac was still seeking revenge for Catilla's murder, Spinister and the others set up an island base on Earth while preparing for their next strike. The cowardly Needlenose got on everyone's nerves, though, when the waiting weighed on his circuits enough to compel him to stage a mock emergency drill and test the Mayhems' response time, just in case Carnivac came looking for him. Spinister gave Needlenose a stern rebuke after that, warning him that the next incident would cost him his life. As it turned out, Carnivac HAD infiltrated the base during the commotion, and Needlenose's next round of genuine emergency calls were left unheeded. {{storylink|Cry Wolf!}} The wolf's next strike on Bludgeon did not go as quietly, and he drew the attention of the rest of the base. Instead of risking himself in close-quarters combat, Carnivac's forte, Spinister wisely chose to blast the traitor from a distance, apparently destroying him. {{storylink|Wolf in the Fold!}} The Mayhems were then forced to defend themselves against the combined might of the Survivors and [[Earthforce]], who had come to rescue Carnivac from his insane mission of vengeance. While Bludgeon and the others charged head first into battle, Spinister saw no gain in a warrior's suicide, and attempted to slip away. Much later, Spinister was working under [[Razorclaw (G1)|Razorclaw]] on Cybertron, shortly after the Battle of [[Thunderhead Pass]]. Not long after they all received [[Transformers: The Death of Optimus Prime|a call from Cybertron to return]], the Scavengers were on [[Clemency]], scavenging. During this time, they ran into a supposedly dead K-Class Decepticon called [[Fulcrum]] and Spinister removed his explosive charge in fear of the Decepticon blowing himself up while they were scavenging him. {{storylink|Scavengers (Part 2): Who's Afraid of the DJD?|Who's Afraid of the DJD?}} Misfire described him to Fulcrum, after the bot revealed himself to be actually alive, as the dumbest being in the universe. Later, he wanted to shoot a fire for giving him weird looks (in fairness they were using a still-living Autobot as a fireplace) and then shot a torch because it was glowing at him, much to Fulcrum's dismay. They were later contacted by the [[Decepticon Justice Division]], who were looking to torture and kill one of them for crimes against the Decepticons. Confused since there were only six of them and the Division mentioned seven bots present, they looked around and discovered a stasis-locked [[Grimlock (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Grimlock]]. {{storylink|Rules of Disengagement (issue)|Rules of Disengagement}}

The Scavengers decided to stay and fight the D.J.D. by unleashing Grimlock from his pod when the D.J.D. got close. As the D.J.D. were arriving, they revealed their real target had been Fulcrum but it was already too late. Krok released Grimlock and the fight began. During the battle, Spinister assisted Crankcase in fighting [[Helex (DJD)|Helex]]. After a while, Fulcrum attempted to blow all of the D.J.D. members up with his bomb mode by jumping off the Worldsweeper. As Spinister (probably) expected, the Decepticon harmlessly crashed into the ground and made a soft explosion. The D.J.D. left in any case for [[Overlord (Masterforce)|another target]] and the leader, [[Tarn (DJD)|Tarn]], announced the Scavengers and Grimlock were all now on [[The List]]. Spinister and the others recovered Fulcrum and a damaged Krok. Fulcrum then revealed to them that the D.J.D. had been after him for a crime he had committed during the war for fleeing from a fight. They set off afterwards for Cybertron with a plan to use Grimlock, who was revealed to be almost brain-dead, as a bargaining chip if they ever arrived on the planet. Spinister and the Scavengers would have many more misadventures including—amongst other things—conjugating verbs, using [[holomatter]] avatars to blend in with the natives on [[Magisteria VI]] and somehow getting turned into [[toy]]s. To let off steam, they amused themselves by vandalising [[Autopedia]] and playing "[[Cybertronian games#Shoot Shoot Bang Bang|Shoot Shoot Bang Bang]]". It was shortly after one such game that Spinister alerted the others that the giant TV was talking again and it said its name was [[Demus]], an associate of Krok's through a [[Militant Monoform Movement|Triple-M]] subgroup on [[The Big Conversation]], who offered them the opportunity to make some easy [[Shanix]] at his scrapyard on [[Tebris VII]]. After arriving on the planet and meeting with him, Spinister was [[mode lock]]ed in [[robot mode]], as Demus had a heightened phobia of [[transformation]].

Demus revealed that he wanted to offer the Scavengers half a billion Shanix ''each'' in exchange for Grimlock. When Misfire objected, it was put to the vote in a rare display of Decepticon democracy and Spinister elected to sell him along with Krok and Crankcase, carrying it by three votes to two. However, they wouldn't get the chance to make the deal as Demus was then summarily executed by the Duly Appointed Enforcer of the [[Tyrest Accord]], [[Fortress Maximus (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Fortress Maximus]]. {{storylink|Some Of My Best Friends Are Autobots}}

Max put them all under arrest for trafficking with a known offender but the Scavengers were able to distract him and hide in Demus's warehouse full of "[[Roboid]]" toys. After learning the true scope of Demus's crimes and that the Roboids were actually lobotomised [[Transformer]]s, stuck in [[beast mode]], to be sold to the organics of the galaxy as "torture dolls", they were able to throw him off their trail by alerting him to the presence of Grimlock on the ''Weak Anthropic Principle'', but then found that they couldn't leave their comrade behind and rode to his rescue on six unboxed [[Equinoid]]s. During the subsequent confrontation with Fortress Maximus, Spinister successfully mastered using a triple negative in a sentence, leading the other Scavengers to all pitch in, using their own unique talents to outwit the Duly Appointed Enforcer and escape with Grimlock by convincing him that the Roboids' lives were in danger—in reality, Spinister had discovered a way to reverse their "[[domestication]]" and left behind a note explaining how to do it. From then on, the Scavengers vowed to adopt Krok's new plan: to find and help all the other Decepticons out there who had been damaged by the war... after one more game of "Shoot Shoot Bang Bang". {{storylink|Animals}}

Some time later aboard the ''Weak Anthropic Principle'', the Scavengers watched a video that was being broadcast to the galaxy at large of ''[[Lost Light]]'' crewmembers apparently counting down the time to their deaths, which even they found a bit dark. {{storylink|The Dying of the Light: (1) How Bright Their Frail Deeds|How Bright Their Frail Deeds}}

The Scavengers later visited [[Earth]] so that Crankcase could meet his online friend "[[CONS4EVA]]." Misfire and Spinister found themselves chasing Grimlock across [[New Mexico]]. Disguising themselves as [[M.A.S.K.]] agents, the two undercover Decepticons pursued their quarry to [[Amarillo]], [[Texas]], where they joined forces with [[G.I. Joe (team)|G.I. Joe]] desk jockey [[MP3]]. The trio followed Grimlock to [[Arlington]] before MP3's "[[Action Van]]" broke down; when Misfire and Spinister revealed the faces of their [[holomatter]] avatars, Misfire's poorly-constructed holomatter face caused MP3 to pass out. Believing that they'd killed him, they buried MP3 and continued their chase. But after watching an EMT resuscitate an injured woman, they realized that they ''hadn't'' killed MP3, so Spinister hurried back to dig up their human friend while Misfire followed Grimlock. An apologetic Spinister brought MP3 back to their ship, where they discovered that Crankcase's Decepticon friend was really a religiously-inclined [[Dire Wraith]] in disguise. Having gathered three different species, the Wraith enacted the mystical ritual known as the "[[Crossover]]," which opened a tiny interdimensional portal. MP3, hoping to go on more space adventures with the Scavengers, tendered his resignation through the portal... only to discover that the Scavengers had left without him. {{storylink|Nothing Will Ever Be the Same Again!}}

The Scavengers next traveled to [[Frayus]], searching for some [[ununtrium]] they could sell. Disappointed at find none of the rare element (and therefore no fiendish death traps to avoid), Spinister and the others prepared to leave only to find themselves in the middle of a struggle between the [[Galactic Council]], the [[Black Block Consortia]], and the Decepticons of [[Deathsaurus (Victory)|Deathsaurus]]. Seeking an exit, they found their tele-portal back up to the W.A.P. in orbit was missing. This exit brought them to [[Troja Major]], where the Curator [[Agonizer]] offered to pay the Scavengers a large sum of money for the retrieval of the [[Epistemus|Magnificence]], which had fallen into the hands of the former Autobot [[Flame (Marvel)|Flame]]. After agreeing to take the job, Spinister and the others were transported to the planet [[Confluence]], where they located Flame's Worldsweeper just before being attacked by a horde of [[Treecon|wooden robots]]. While Grimlock swiftly dealt with them, the Scavengers were then accosted by [[Scorponok (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Scorponok]], who summarily disabled Grimlock and apprehended the Scavengers.
After being tossed into a cell on the Worldsweeper, Krok had Spinister open up Grimlock to discover a cavity within the Dinobot made to hold the Magnificence. After Scorponok filled them in on the details surrounding Grimlock and the Magnificence, he reawakened the Dinobot and sicced him on the Scavengers, with Spinister getting his arm ripped off in the process. {{storylink|The Ties That Bind}}

While Scorponok left them to their fates, the Scavengers were able to pacify Grimlock after getting him to transform into his dinosaur form. Krok then had Spinister and Nickel disassemble the other Scavengers to make it look like Grimlock had murdered them; once the Dinobot had been taken away, the Scavengers put themselves back together and stormed the bridge to confront Scorponok. After revealing the [[Firstborn]] and his plan to raise an army of Decepticons through organic reproduction, Scorponok attempted to extract the Scavengers' sparks only to be stopped by Nickel using a prerecorded message from Tarn. Spinister and the others then made their escape to a transmat and set in coordinates for [[Garrus-9]] provided to them by the Magnificence. However, Grimlock elected to stay behind to protect the Firstborn and pushed the Scavengers into the portal before they could debate over it. Upon ending up in what appeared to be Garrus-9, Spinister and his pals found themselves locked in Grimlock's old cell. Or so it seemed until [[Nautica (G1)|Nautica]], while exploring a temple in what she believed to be the [[Transformer afterlife|Afterspark]], stumbled upon the Scavengers. {{storylink|The Everlasting Voices (2): The God War|The God War}} After a confrontation over misunderstandings, the Scavengers and Nautica soon figured out that "Garrus-9" and "the Afterspark" were both illusions generated by the euthanasia clinic [[Mederi]]. After recovering the body of [[Axe (G1)|Axe]] from one of the wards, the group met up with the rest of Nautica's crew and pieced together the mystery of Mederi – as well as the fact that Mederi was in fact the "[[Cyberutopia]]" that Nautica and her crewmates had been searching for. As the sparkeaters attacked, Spinister and the others were saved by the timely arrival of Grimlock, who was accompanied by [[First Aid (G1)|First Aid]], [[Riptide (G1)|Riptide]], [[Thunder Clash|Thunderclash]], and [[Wipe-Out]]. When the ''Lost Light'' showed up, Crankcase and Grimlock went with [[Hot Rod (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Rodimus]]' team to board the captured ship while Spinister and the other Scavengers barricaded themselves in Ward Zero with Mederi's telepaths. {{storylink|Crucible (Part 1): A Dance Before Dying|A Dance Before Dying}} While Spinister worked with "[[Ratchet (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|the angry doctor]]", Nickel was able to stop the sparkeaters by using Ward Zero's generator to cure them. Only Megatron wasn't leading the fleet of ships but rather fleeing from them; the fleet itself turned out to belong to the [[Functionist Council]] of an [[Functionist Universe|alternate timeline]]... and among these forces was a planet-sized robot cast in the image of [[Primus]], made from said timeline's Cybertron. As "Primus" laid waste to the God Gun, Megatron's ship fired on the Grand Architect's Worldsweeper to free Spinister and the others, bringing them aboard the [[Last Light (ship)|''Last Light'']]. His spinning rotor sits in place in robot mode thanks a small fin-tab on his helicopter tail ending up sitting against the rotor-base in robot mode, nestled in a small divot in the base.

Later, Thundercracker caught up to Arcee's spaceship by an undesignated planet. Eager for a chance to settle the score, Thundercracker singlehandedly massacred his way through the ship until he caught up with Arcee and gleefully tore her apart limb from limb. However, he wasn't about to let her off so easily. He brought her remains back to the outpost he commanded so that [[Flatline (ROTF)|Flatline]] could experiment on her. Flatline questioned Thundercracker whether or not her spark was cut out for his latest far-reaching, objectionable experiment. But Thundercracker insisted it would be and scolded him for squandering the outpost's supply of protoforms on some of his not-so-successful endeavors.

Once Arcee regained consciousness in a strange new body, Thundercracker dropped by to pay his respects personally, casually remarking he got 'carried away' taking her down. Even though Arcee couldn't quite remember him, Thundercracker and Flatline revealed their plan to use her spark to power three discarded protoforms to bolster Decepticon forces and helped the medic carry out the procedure. The experiment was successful...But perhaps a little too successful when all three Arcees escaped, freeing [[Skids (ROTF)|two]] [[Mudflap (ROTF)|other]] prisoners with her. Ultimately, Thundercracker had to personally intervene and subdued one of the three Arcees. However, even he was no match for the combined forces of the two other fury-driven Arcees and was forced to flee. Thundercracker was [[Shockwave (Movie)|Shockwave]]'s right-hand man and confidante, and came to Earth alongside him and the other Decepticons. After Shockwave received a communique from [[Frenzy (Movie)|Frenzy]] informing him that the Autobots had found a lead to the location of the lost Decepticon leader [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]], Thundercracker airlifted his boss into Qatar so they could relay the message to [[Blackout (Movie)|Blackout]]. Shockwave decided to follow up on the lead himself, and had Thundercracker take him to the Arctic, where they battled their way through a platoon of Autobots that had already arrived and searched the ice cavern that Megatron's body had been found in. Although Megatron had already been moved by [[Sector Seven]], Shockwave discovered that Megatron had brought an army of drones to Earth with him which were currently lying dormant on Earth.

Thundercracker and Shockwave subsequently travelled south, keeping themselves hidden by making the trip submerged in a large body of water, heading for an unknown location. Thundercracker was fairly puzzled by the whole affair, as Shockwave was playing the mission objective close to his chest, but things soon became clear when he discovered that they had arrived at a rocket launch site. While Thundercracker created a distraction by attacking the facility, Shockwave slipped in and programmed the rocket with the signal code required to reactivate the drones. Once the rocket blasted off, the signal was beamed down across the world, bringing the drone army back on-line.

A platoon of drones proceeded to attack the Autobots who were on their way to [[Hoover Dam]], forcing [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] and [[Ratchet (Movie)|Ratchet]] to break off and take care of them. The fight carried the two Autobots to the [[Smash Derby]] arena, where Thundercracker attacked them. Proteus greeted [[Shockwave (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Shockwave]] when he joined the Senate, but disturbed the new Senator by his violent treatment of a [[disposable class]] projector-bot, causing Shockwave to openly protest against his Functionist beliefs. Proteus was unimpressed by his emotional outburst, deeming it inappropriate for a Senator. {{storylink|Shockwaves}}

Seeking to gain more power and influence, Proteus created a faction within the Senate that conspired to get their hands on the [[Matrix of Leadership]] held by [[Nominus Prime]]. Together with Sentinel, he orchestrated an assassination attempt on Nominus, crippling him in a fake "terrorist attack" that also opened an opportunity to implement the [[Clampdown (event)|Clampdown]], a time of heightened security that would place severe restrictions on Cybertron's inhabitants in order to (supposedly) weed out terrorists. When he first suggested the Clampdown during a Senate meeting, Senator [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]] agreed with him, adding that they could use this opportunity to shut down some government-critical groups, even if it would forego "some of the freedoms" of the general populace. The speech was then suddenly interrupted by [[Optimus Prime (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Orion Pax]], who burst into the chamber to offer his own views on the Senate's selfish ways. After the intruder had gone on for a while, Proteus ordered Sentinel to have him removed, but forgot to note his name.

When the Decepticons destroyed all but one of the rogue mercenary group named the [[Wrecker]]s in the battle of [[Praxus-Delta]], Optimus Prime welcomed their leader, [[Rodimus (SG)|Rodimus]], into his ranks. {{storylink|Rodimus (SG)|BotCon 2008 Rodimus profile card}} Increasingly paranoid, Optimus Prime began suspecting his subordinates of treachery. He killed the leader of his elite [[Seeker (SG)|Seeker]] unit, [[Drench (SG)|Drench]], and when he learned of Seeker [[Sideswipe (SG)|Sideswipe]]'s dissatisfaction with his leader's assassination, Prime staged an ambush to kill him. Optimus began looking elsewhere. However, he requested so much weaponry to be built onto the starship that the integrity of the launching platform was in question. He dismissed these concerns.

Close to the ''Ark''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s completion, [[Cliffjumper (SG)|Cliffjumper]] appeared to return from the dead. At first, he was readily welcomed back into their ranks, but they quickly learned that he was not their Cliffjumper at all, but a [[Cliffjumper (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Cliffjumper doppelganger]]. Prime shot him and ordered his body dumped in the [[Rad Zone]]. This backfired, as Cliffjumper was recruited by the Decepticons, and during a subsequent full-scale Decepticon attack, his [[glass gas]] weaponry was used in an attack on the ''Ark'' launching platform. Prime's plans to conquer Earth were stopped for the moment. {{storylink|Shattered Glass (issue)|Shattered Glass}}

After a later Autobot ambush at the recently rediscovered [[Arch-Ayr]] fuel dump, the Cliffjumper doppelganger angrily rushed Optimus Prime, followed by the combined forces of the [[Mayhem Suppression Squad]]. Despite it all, Optimus Prime kept on his feet, though his rage was growing with every blow. No one, however, was expecting the sudden arrival of an army of [[Dinobot (SG)|Dinobot]]s led by the exiled mad scientist, [[Wheeljack (SG)|Wheeljack]]. Optimus Prime ordered the rampaging Dinobots to destroy the Decepticons, but instead the beasts attacked each other. During the chaos, both sides withdrew.

Optimus Prime was furious at the Autobots' failure. At [[Side Burn (SG)|Side Burn]]'s clever suggestion, Prime ordered Wheeljack be put in charge of rebuilding the ''Ark'', a task that the mad scientist felt was beneath him. Also, he demanded that the Dinobots be hunted down and gathered for the Autobots' purposes.

Blurr and Rodimus returned triumphantly with eight Dinobots, though Rodimus had lost his hand in the process. Optimus Prime stood over Rodimus as he awoke from [[Ratchet (SG)|Ratchet]]'s table: the traitorous Seeker now had a buzzsaw in place of where his hand used to be. A suitable punishment! Prime told Rodimus he should be grateful he let him live at all. Perhaps he should use the saw to remove that [[facial hair|ridiculous thing]] from his face? Though Blurr and Rodimus thought Grimlock had died during their search for the Dinobots, sure enough, Grimlock appeared, alive and strangely very intelligent, within their base. Optimus Prime was about to punish Grimlock as well, but Grimlock pointed out a fuel system error in the blueprints of the ''Ark''. The evil Autobot leader let the Dinobot leader go, but demanded someone be brought to him he could destroy. {{storylink|Dungeons & Dinobots}}

When Optimus Prime ordered the ''Ark'' fixed, he knew that the Decepticons would try to follow the Autobots into space. [[Jazz (SG)|Jazz]] mentioned that [[Ricochet (SG)|Ricochet]] had taken care of the Decepticons. Optimus's eyes filled with rage as he learned that Ricochet had captured Megatron. Prime immediately left to reprimand Ricochet for stealing the honor of destroying Megatron. Upon his arrival at the [[Temple of Knowledge]], Optimus and Ricochet were attacked by a group of Decepticon [[Micromaster]]s, allowing Megatron to escape. After a few turnabouts, Megatron won the day. The ''Ark'' launched without Optimus Prime (due to Rodimus' treachery), so Prime ordered a retreat. Once back at the launch site, he learned from Blurr that Rodimus had thrown the Autobots loyal to Prime off the ship. Optimus Prime ordered Ricochet to the [[Agonizing Rehabilitation Chamber]]s for his impudent plan of capturing Megatron. In one of [[Aquarius (SG)|Aquarius]]'s explanatory flashbacks to [[Breakaway (Classics)|Breakaway]], [[Topspin (Classics)|Topspin]], and [[Landquake (Timelines)|Landquake]], Optimus Prime asked [[Ironhide (SG)|Ironhide]] how progress was coming on [[Omega Doom]]. He was pleased to hear that it was going well, and gloated that once the behemoth was finished, the galaxy would be his for the taking.

After the assassination of Megatron, (of which Optimus learned about second-hand from ''[[Around Cybertron]]'') {{storylink|Around Cybertron#Shattered Glass|Around Cybertron #6}} [[Hound (SG)|Hound]] and [[Remote Patrol Six]] made their move, surrounding Optimus Prime and Ricochet as they discussed Megatron's death, intending to kill Optimus and install Rodimus in his place as Prime. Hound's rally cries failed to impress Optimus, and the Autobot leader proceeded to use Ricochet as a living shield against a blast from [[Warpath (SG)|Warpath's]] chest-mounted cannon, before crushing [[Kup (SG)|Kup]]'s head with his bare hands, destroying Warpath's chest cannon, taking out Hound by flinging Warpath into him, and cannon-blasting [[Camshaft (SG)|Camshaft]] in the head.

However, the battle was not over yet, as [[Alpha Trion (SG)|Alpha Trion]], [[Sky Lynx (SG)|Sky Lynx]], and [[Nightscream (BM)|Nightscream]] had arrived to kill Optimus themselves. However, Prime introduced the trio to a completed [[Omega Doom]], who reduced Alpha Trion to a distant smear on the ground, before going off to destroy the Decepticons while Optimus dealt with Sky Lynx and Nightscream. {{storylink|Reunification: Part 5}} {{storylink|The Coming Storm: Part 1}}

Optimus Prime was destroyed and left to die during an important battle in [[Mirtonian constellation|Sector 17 of the Mirtonian Quadrant]]. Optimus Prime watched over a viewscreen as Magnus killed several of his most loyal warriors. In [[2015]], Prime mounted an all-out assault on [[Decepticon City (SG)|Decepticon City]]. Before long, Galvatron arrived from Cybertron, and the two leaders wound up in a one-on-one confrontation. Optimus quickly gained the upper hand, but scheming interference by Rodimus led to the Autobot leader taking a serious gunshot wound. {{storylink|Memory's Splinter}} With the tide turned, the Autobots retreated to Sky Lynx, with [[Blaster (SG)|Blaster]] carrying the injured Optimus aboard. {{storylink|Restoration}}

En route to Cybertron, Sky Lynx announced that he had insufficient power to carry all his passengers there, and Optimus was among those who Rodimus dumped out. Floating through space, Prime found himself in the presence of [[Unicron/Shattered Glass|Unicron]]. {{storylink|Familiar Reflections}} However, the fragment of Unicron he encountered was his rare good side, so Unicron restored Prime's sanity and rebuilt him into Nova Prime as a messenger of justice. With [[Brawn (SG)|X-Brawn]], [[Prowl (SG)|Checkpoint]], and the Autotroopers serving as his [[Knights of Unicron (SG)|Knights of Unicron]], Nova Prime returned to Cybertron to end the threat of the evil Autobots. Unfortunately, while Nova Prime's forces were rounding up the other Autobots, Unicron's opposite number [[Primus/Shattered Glass|Primus]] chose to manifest himself. The deity-turned-planet reverted to his robot mode, and intended to eliminate the infestation of other-dimensional vermin from his plane, including the positive universe's planet Earth. Surprisingly, Earth transformed into a Light God named [[Gaea]], empowered by the [[Rarified Energon]] of that world as her lifeblood. As the dark Primus and Gaea battled, Nova Prime brought his troops within range and fired as one at Primus's eye, blinding him long enough for Gaea to defeat him.
