:Safeguard is an Autobot combiner from the Animated continuity family.
When flight schematics stolen from Starscream were infused into Jetfire and Jetstorm, Safeguard, their "gestalt powerlink" form, was an unexpected result!

Though Safeguard combines the twins' bodies to further enhance their already-impressive combat capabilities, it does not appear to be a melding of their minds. Instead, both twins work in complete synchronization in this form. Unfortunately, both twins are cocky, brash showoffs who are only partially in control over their own powers... which makes Safeguard a potentially very dangerous robot to everyone around him.

Safeguard has both a robot mode and a super jet mode.
While fighting Starscream during a simulated mission, an angered Jetstorm and Jetfire suddenly combined into the mighty Safeguard! After dodging a blast from Starscream by dividing in two, he (they?) joined into a combined jet mode and melted the simulated Starscream into nothing. Impressed by their skills, Ultra Magnus instructed them to accompany Sentinel Prime and Jazz in pursuing the escaped Autobot fugitive Wasp to Earth. First (and Second) in Flight

Upon arrival on Earth, Jetstorm and Jetfire were sent on an aerial search of Detroit, but things went bad when their power of flight caused Optimus Prime and Ratchet to mistake the twins for Decepticons. A fight broke out between them, during which Jetfire and Jetstorm merged into Safeguard and floored Ratchet with a flying kick. Just as Optimus Prime tackled the combined twins, Sentinel Prime and Jazz arrived to interrupt the fight and explain that Prime's opponents were actually Autobots. Where Is Thy Sting?

When Sentinel Prime was captured by one of Starscream's clones, the twins merged into Safeguard to save their commander. Though their small stature proved effective against the massive brute, they decided to combine into Safeguard, the Elite Guard Super Speed Warrior, anyway. Safeguard proceeded to go toe-to-toe with Blackout, creating a battleground too hazardous for the other Decepticons to remain, forcing them into retreat. The Cool Episode 4
Notes
* Jetfire and Jetstorm's fire/wind theme has its roots in some of the earliest concepts of Animated. Sean Galloway, who had been commissioned to do early concept work for the series, revealed several pieces of this concept art long before the "final" Derrick Wyatt-designed characters were shown. Among these images were a pair of "fire and wind" robots who have a few features that made it into the jet-twins' final designs.
* In addition to the fire/wind theme, the twins' method of combination is seemingly an intentional homage to Hyōryū and Enryū/Chōryūjin from the final installment of Takara's Brave Series, King of Braves GaoGaiGar. The split two-color gridlines in the background of their combination are also evocative of the Raker brothers' combination sequence from Brave Exkaiser.
* In the early stages of the toy's development, the end of the twins' combined vehicle mode was supposed to split apart and wings were supposed to slide out of the shins, so that the combined mode resembled an X-wing fighter. However, this did not appear in the released instructions because the toy can't take the form without disconnecting the legs of Jetfire and Jetstorm.

As you might guess from the name, Overkill is all about excess. Sometimes this works to his advantage, such as when his endless tirades and theatrics distract his foes in combat. Sometimes excess works to his disadvantage, such as when he gets so caught up in showing off that he becomes distracted in combat. And sometimes it just makes him look silly, swinging and blasting at a fallen foe long after the fight has ended.

Though he talks a better game than he fights, Overkill's dinosaur mode is strong enough to be a decent threat... except when the circuits that control his size-change from cassette to dinosaur malfunction (as they are wont to do) and he finds himself stuck as an audiotape-sized dino. Awwww!
In a gambit to counter a string of humiliating defeats by Grimlock, Overkill's leader had this new body built for Overkill. Overkill's chronic failure to grow larger in robot mode had become a permanent condition, sidelining him from the battlefield. This new body carries an armored interface housing in its chest allowing Overkill to be inserted in cassette mode, effectively overcoming his disability.
Omni Productions is a Hong Kong-based company responsible for the hilariously bad English-language dubs of the Japanese Generation 1 animated series: The Headmasters, Super-God Masterforce, and Victory. Founded by Rik Thomas, the studio's other work includes the Heisei and several Millenium era Godzilla movies, '70s through mid-'80s Shaw Brothers films, Jackie Chan's Police Story, Riki-Oh: Story of Ricky, many '80s "Ninjasploitation" films, and Dragonball: The Magic Begins.

The dubs
Known variously as the "RTM 1 dub" (from the Malaysian TV channel on which the dubs were first discovered) the "Star TV dub" and the "Singapore dub" (from the Singaporean TV channel STAR TV, on which they grew to prominence), Omni Productions' dubs of these three series have gone down in infamy for a combination of reasons. Clearly produced by a small number of people with little knowledge of the source material, the English translation is...rudimentary at best. Although it is often touted as being wholly inaccurate, it actually manages to render the intent of the dialog correctly more times than not. It is, however, the way in which it proceeds to mangle the translation so much with clumsy English, run-on sentences, non sequitur lines and just generally inappropriate language that creates its distinctively surreal, not to mention hilarious, qualities. Of particular note is the replacement of Japanese swear words and curses with incredibly tame English accusations such as the recurring "Darn" and "You are an evil man!"

Characteristics
'Billy, you okay?'<br/>'Not really... find the Power Pack!'

Generally speaking, the dub employs American names and terminology, but in some instances, the scriptwriter(s?) were apparently unable to find the correct equivalent, leading to the dub's single most famous attribute: its collection of new names for various characters and concepts. Some of these names are based on a misinterpretation of the Japanese pronunciation of the names, and some are just pulled straight out of thin air. These ludicrous instances include:

*Blaster as "Billy"
*Metroplex as "Phillip"
*Jazz as "Marshall"
*Blurr as "Wally"
*Spike Witwicky as "Sparkle"
*The Matrix as "The Power Pack"
*Chaar as "Jollo"
*Energon cubes as "Power Packs"
*Fortress's battleship, Maximus, as "Spaceship Bruce"
*Hot Rod as Rodimus Prime (pronounced "Roadimus Prime")
*Jack as "Sappo"

The process proved especially difficult for the writers when the characters had no American equivalents. This only affected a few members of the Headmasters cast, who all wound up with new names. The Super-God Masterforce cast, on the other hand, were all re-named as their American toy-equivalent characters (Ginrai as Optimus Prime, Minerva as Nightbeat, etc.), while the Japanese-exclusive characters either managed to retain their original names (Overlord, Metalhawk) or followed tradition by winding up with loony new ones. The Victory characters, meanwhile, mostly managed to keep their Japanese names, but a few still managed to slip through the cracks. Wacky examples include:

*Soundblaster as "New Soundwave"
*Twincast as "Blaster"
*Raiden as "Grimlock"
*Jack as "Sappo"
*Both Sixknight and Greatshot as "Sixshot"
*Browning as "B.M."
*Jean Minakaze as "Meekon"
*Dashtacker as "Batchtaster"
*Holi as "Fixit"
*Deathsaurus as "Deathsanras"
*Grand Galvatron as "Unicorn"

It doesn't end with the names...
*Characters who have a mouthplate are given "muffled" voices, evidently produced by the actors covering their mouths with their hands.
*"Wally" speaks unusually slowly.
*Both Soundwave and "New Soundwave" speak with a single, normal voice, as opposed to the Soundwave effect we're used to, even in the original Japanese show.
*The word "idea" is consistently pronounced like "idear" by several characters.
*Decepticon is sometimes pronounced by the narrator as "Decepticun".
* Characters seem unable to show even the most basic emotion convincingly

We could go on like this forever.

Ownership
Sunbow Productions legally acquired ownership of the Omni Productions dubs at some point, branding every episode with the Victory opening sequence (with the English word "Transformers" masked in over the title card) and English-language closing credits. These credits were rendered in the traditional font of the Generation 1 cartoon series, and even featured the original closing theme tune. All 115 dubbed episodes are included in this Sunbow-modified form as part of the Hasbro-owned Transformers rights package for licensees.

Home video releases
After circulating in the fandom for years via bootleg VHS tapes, the Omni Productions-dubbed episodes saw several official DVD releases in the 21st century.
