Prior to 2019, absolutely no origin or back story of any kind had ever been established for Dark Nova. Where he came from, why he sided with the Decepticons and whether he has ''any'' connection to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] and the Transformers at all was a complete mystery. Neither the story pages printed in ''[[TV Magazine]]'' nor the ''Battlestars'' manga elaborate upon the character in any substantial way.

Other material, however, implied some sort of connection between Dark Nova and [[Unicron]], but the extent of such a relationship was originally unclear. The first ''Battlestars'' story page published in the toy catalogs used a spectral image of Unicron to represent Dark Nova. However, when Dark Nova appeared in the second toy catalog story page, he boasted a completely original design. Neither story page mentioned Unicron by name in the actual text, further muddying any relationship between the characters.

Officially, however, the uncertain connection between Unicron and Dark Nova was acknowledged by the [[Generation 1 cartoon timeline (Japan)/src#After 2025|Japanese timeline]] included with the ''[[Transformers: Kiss Players (franchise)|Kiss Players]]'' manga. In the ''Battlestars'' segment of the timeline, a note is included, stating: "The Great Emperor Dark Nova, who looks very similar to Unicron, appears". Beyond that vague sentence, no further explanation was offered.

In the actual ''Battlestars'' fiction, one can pick out either intentional or coincidental similarities between Dark Nova and Unicron. Dark Nova displays the ability to resurrect and upgrade Transformers with beams of pure energy, much as Unicron did in ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]''. The fact that the Transformer receiving these upgrades and placed into Dark Nova's servitude is Galvatron may not be an accident. And in addition to that, Dark Nova meets his end in a fashion almost identical to Unicron's: The Autobots travel inside his body, fight off his defense mechanisms and destroy him from within, with only the head of Dark Nova's Star Giant form surviving the explosion.

All this would finally be resolved [[retcon|long after the fact]] in the fiction of ''[[Transformers Legends (comic)|Legends]]'', which established Dark Nova as a member of the [[Vok]], and his appropriation of Unicron's appearance as evoking his fearsome reputation among Transformers in a callback to "[[Other Voices, Part 1]]".

[[Rattrap (BW)|Rattrap]], [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]], and the other [[Legends World|Legends]] natives are saddened to learn of [[Megatron (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|G1 Megatron]]'s sacrifice, though [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]], recalling Megatron's previous resurrection within the Legends World, requests they try to bring him back again as soon as the universe itself is restored. By [[2039]], the war has ended: the [[Decepticon]]s have laid down their arms in accordance with Megatron's last wishes and support the plan to restore the Legends World and resurrect their leader. Many peaceful developments and relationships born in the Legends World have resurfaced, including [[Hot Rod (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Hot Rod]] and [[Triggerhappy (G1)|Triggerhappy]]'s partnership as they work as law enforcers on [[Earth]]. [[Human]] science is rapidly approaching [[Transformer]] levels thanks to their alliance with [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] as well as [[Angolmois Energy]], a power source extracted from Gaia Energy discovered within the planet, and the efforts of scientists like [[Chip Chase]] and [[Atari Hitotonari|Professor Hitotonari]] have resulted in the creation of [[Artemis|androids]], human-made robotic lifeforms.

[[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]], [[Windblade (G1)|Windblade]], and [[Dai Atlas (Zone)|Dai Atlas]] travel to [[Zamojin (planet)|Zamojin]] and ask [[Zamojin (species)|its people]] for help in restoring the Legends World, but are met with refusal by [[Katsu Don]]. When Windblade offers to defend the newborn world and Perceptor argues that Katsu Don can't decide the fates of the Legends natives or else he'll be the same as the [[Quintesson]]s who attacked his planet, the Zamojin relents, confessing that he was already shameful about seeing his own actions reflected in those of the [[Vok]]. Dai Atlas praises Perceptor's willingness to reach out to a former enemy, recalling how [[Star Saber (Victory)|Star Saber]] made him [[Supreme Commander]] in spite of his past as a Decepticon. Returning to the [[Micro|Z Planet]], Dai Atlas encounters small newborn beast Transformers created by imbuing [[protoform]] capsules with [[Chōkon Power|Beast Power]], allowing them to scan organic life. [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] believes these Transformers' descendants will be the ones who will [[Beast Wars (event)|travel into the past]] to protect the present, granting them new symbols as proof that the future can't be changed. As they were created through Autobot and Decepticon cooperation, Wheeljack also sees them as symbols of everlasting peace between the factions.

While the [[Powered Master]]s gather their resources to recreate the Legends World, Dai Atlas asks Rattrap to make sure Megatron is resurrected, having forgiven the Decepticon thanks to his saving the Z Planet from destruction. Controlling the gathered [[Zodiac]]s through their [[Powered Engine]]s, the Powered Masters imbue them with [[Energon Z]], Zamojin telepathy power, [[Botanica (BM)|Botanica]]'s soil, and finally through [[White Leo]]'s sword, Beast Power and the very wishes of the Legends residents. [[Lio Convoy|Leo Prime]] reflects on how even though the Zamojin went down the wrong path, their telepathy experiment is what allowed him to sense the Legends natives cheering him on on [[Gaia]] and thanks Rattrap, who thanks him back. Watching from afar, [[Dreadwing (G2)|Dreadwing]] and [[Smokescreen (G1)|Smokescreen]] reaffirm their belief that peace between Transformers will never last when [[Devcon (G1)|Devcon]] approaches, apologizing to Smokescreen for not being there for him and revealing that even he cooperates with others for the sake of peace now. His resolve shaken, Smokescreen takes his hand to return to the fold, though Dreadwing refuses and turns to leave. However, when his partner calls out to him that they themselves are proof that Autobots and Decepticons can work together, he too has a change of heart and joins Smokescreen and Devcon.

The Legends World is successfully restored, down to the cities, and its residents waste no time in using their wish-granting powers to build a new Megatron body and call his spark into it. Half a year later, things have returned to normal as Rattrap, [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]], [[Tigatron]], and [[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]] all watch the ''[[Bumblebee (film)|Bumblebee]]'' movie, which appeals to all their tastes. In fact, things are going so well that the reborn Megatron realizes he longer needs to run the Legends World and decides to return to the [[OG World|G1 World]]. He tells the residents about how he arrived there with the intent of conquering their world only to realize it was a chance to create the peaceful world [[Kiloton|his friend]] had wanted, then gives them his heartfelt thanks for showing him the potential of a world where different peoples with different beliefs can all work together. Legends Megatron bursts into tears, but G1 Megatron tells him that this isn't goodbye: After all, his future endeavors will appear in the Legends World as fiction, so he asks his counterpart to keep cheering him on from afar. As G1 Megatron takes his leave and Legends Megatron begins searching for any and all ''Transformers'' fiction to consume, Rattrap expresses his comfort that the G1 World will be safe with Optimus Prime and a heroic Megatron around: Some amazing ''Transformers'' stories must be just around the corner.

In the G1 World, Megatron and Optimus Prime rebuild the [[Cybertron Alliance]] while Earth enters a new era, and in the far future, the [[Maximal]]s celebrate with the returned Rhinox on a [[Great Reformatting|reformatted]] Cybertron. In other universes, [[Breakdown (WFC)|Breakdown]] and [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]] have been reunited, [[Slipstream (Animated)|Slipstream]] makes plans to break other Decepticons out of prison, the [[Dimensional Patrol]] continues its battles against the unknown while [[Scourge (RID)|Scourge]] and his [[Commando (RID)|Commandos]] are out there somewhere, and [[Alexis Thi Dang|Alexis]] remembers the late [[Starscream (Armada)|Starscream]]. Back in the Legends World, Leo Prime leaves [[Lio Convoy]] and his [[Lio Junior|son]] with some gifts as he too departs, [[Big Convoy]]'s class graduates from high school, and chaos continues at [[Tera-Kura Co.]] [[Axalon Trading Company]] hires a new face, [[Nuclear cybershark drone|Koban Shark]], who quickly gets along with the rest as he's a ''Transformers'' fan too, particularly of ''[[Transformers: Armada (franchise)|Armada]]''.

In [[2040]] of the G1 World, [[Eagle Eye (G1)|Hawking]] and [[Magnificus (G1)|Magnificus]] break into the Autobot base containing the Assaultmaster in which their leader [[Scrash (OC)|Scrash]] has been sealed. Declaring that they will tear down the Cybertron Alliance with technology unearthed from [[Tarantulas's lair]], they free Scrash who bursts out of his prison in the form of an energy lifeform and possesses [[Skyquake (G1)|Skyquake]], a former host of his brought by his underlings. However, the group is interrupted by Optimus Prime and Megatron, who have come to put a stop to Scrash's plans.

Learning of the Dinobots' actions, Optimus activated the Enigma, creating Volcanicus and Predaking in the process! Springer retreived the Enigma, but the Dinobots and Predacons had unfinished business, so they settled on finishing the score later, in their new combined forms.

As it turned out, the Dinobots didn't know ''how'' to work the Enigma. Soon, Bruticus and Superion arrived on the scene, and the two duked it out while Grimlock desperately tried to figure out how to use the Enigma.

Learning of the Dinobots' actions, Optimus activated the Enigma, creating Volcanicus and Predaking in the process! Springer retreived the Enigma, but the Dinobots and Predacons had unfinished business, so they settled on finishing the score later, in their new combined forms.

Stooge-like, hopelessly clumsy, and innocent in nature, he's very much the "Curly" to commander [[Goryu (Victory)|Goryu]]'s "Moe"; taking blow after angry blow from his leader but handling it all with a care-free stride. Perhaps it's his barrier cannon, which projects a field that renders him invulnerable to harm, or his blind devotion to his commander that allows him to be so indifferent to the pummelling he often suffers, or maybe he really is just that oblivious to the extent of his lot in life. Give Kakuryu a motivation he can get behind and he'll perform well, but it seems like the Decepticon agenda is anything but motivating to this luckless little guy. He likes to dance and play, would rather sleep than fight, and has a soft spot for cute little flesh creatures, especially bugs, which he thinks are cuddly-wuddly adorable. Why he's a Decepticon is anyone's guess.

It is perhaps no great surprise, then, to note that Kakuryu ''did'' eventually end up switching sides, joining the Autobots, becoming a [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobot]], and participating in the [[Power Core Combination|Power Core Combiner]] program under the codename '''Grimmaster''' (グリムマスター ''Gurimumasutā'').

While grappling with his foe from behind, Kakuryu commanded his shell to gore Star Saber's chest with his horns, hoping to penetrate down to his [[Brainmaster]]. Star Saber was only momentarily caught off-guard, however, and in seconds he had the upper hand after unleashing his Saber Vacuum Tornado Pacifier attack. Kakuryu bounced across the landscape and nearly fell over a cliff thanks to the awesome maneuver. Hanging from the edge, Kakuryu was defiant to the end and told Star Saber to hurry up and kill him if he was going to do it. While none of the [[Decepticon]] [[Dinoforce]] are particularly smart, '''Kakuryu''' (カクリュウ ''Kakuryū'') is easily the dumbest member of the team. Stooge-like, hopelessly clumsy, and innocent in nature, he's very much the "Curly" to commander [[Goryu (Victory)|Goryu]]'s "Moe"; taking blow after angry blow from his leader but handling it all with a care-free stride. Perhaps it's his barrier cannon, which projects a field that renders him invulnerable to harm, or his blind devotion to his commander that allows him to be so indifferent to the pummelling he often suffers, or maybe he really is just that oblivious to the extent of his lot in life. Give Kakuryu a motivation he can get behind and he'll perform well, but it seems like the Decepticon agenda is anything but motivating to this luckless little guy. He likes to dance and play, would rather sleep than fight, and has a soft spot for cute little flesh creatures, especially bugs, which he thinks are cuddly-wuddly adorable. Why he's a Decepticon is anyone's guess.

It took three days, but Star Saber eventually did happen by, so Kakuryu leapt out to assault the Autobot Supreme Commander. While grappling with his foe from behind, Kakuryu commanded his shell to gore Star Saber's chest with his horns, hoping to penetrate down to his [[Brainmaster]]. Star Saber was only momentarily caught off-guard, however, and in seconds he had the upper hand after unleashing his Saber Vacuum Tornado Pacifier attack. Kakuryu bounced across the landscape and nearly fell over a cliff thanks to the awesome maneuver. Hanging from the edge, Kakuryu was defiant to the end and told Star Saber to hurry up and kill him if he was going to do it.
