The crew of the ''Axalon'' at the start of the [[Beast Wars (event)|Beast Wars]] appears to have been newly assembled and the captain, [[Optimus Primal]], was new to command.

The ''Axalon'' engaged the ''Darksyde'' in battle as soon as both starships came out of transwarp, chasing the Predacon ship to a primitive world that would later be revealed as [[Earth]]. Outgunned by the ''Darksyde'', the ''Axalon''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s engines were severely damaged and it was slowly dragged towards the surface by the planet's gravitational pull. Realizing their ship would not survive, their cargo of stasis pods were launched into safe orbit from the rear docking bay. Despite this grim setback, Optimus Primal was not willing to allow their enemies to escape, and so he ordered the forward plasma cannon to be fired at the ''Darksyde'', a well-targeted shot that crippled the Predacon warship. ==Synopsis==
A wild and free bird majestically soars through the air, experiencing the wonders of aviation as it feels the wind flow around its proud wings. The bird explores its domain with a grace and sincerity and deliciousness. The lattermost attribute is of interest to a hungry [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]], who quickly swallows the bird as a snack.

Terrorsaur discovers a [[flying mountain|massive mountain elevated into the sky]]—defying gravity. Flying closer, he discovers the mountain houses an incredible cache of [[energon]]. To check the energon's stability, he transforms into his robot mode, at the risk of having raw energon radiation harm his circuits. When he tries to take a sample for study, bolts of pure energy surge though him, greatly enhancing his abilities. Naturally, the first thing the overcharged [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] does is fly back to his base to overthrow [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]]. Luckily, [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] also finds the airborne crag, and watches Terrorsaur leaving at top speeds.

Outside of the [[Darksyde|Predacons' crashed ship]], Megatron shows his troops some newly installed territorial defenses. Terrorsaur arrives, and flowing with power, immediately announces that he's taking over the Predacons. Megatron obviously disagrees, and the two fight, but the pumped-up Terrorsaur easily blasts Megatron over the edge of a cliff, where he lands in pieces. With the remaining Predacons under his control, Terrorsaur announces the [[Maximal]]s are his next target. Cheetor, having followed Terrorsaur from the floating mountain, perceives the new developments as bad news.

Before he can lead the final battle against the Maximals, Terrorsaur finds his new charge has a short life and he must return to the floating mountain to reinvigorate himself. [[Tarantulas (BW)|Tarantulas]] follows in secret, eager to steal the source of Terrorsaur's new capabilities. [[Scorponok (BW)|Scorponok]] is left alone with [[Waspinator]], so the two begin to re-assemble and repair Megatron.

Cheetor rushes back to the [[Axalon (BW)|Maximal base]] and scrambles onto the bridge, where he spits out an incoherent sequence of words vaguely relating to the current crisis. Giving explanations a second try, Cheetor explains the story thus far to his fellow Maximals. [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] concludes that the floating mountain isn't totally scientifically impossible, given enough energon. [[Optimus Primal]] and [[Rattrap]] prepare to destroy the entire island.

A weakened Terrorsaur flaps back to the island; on the ground, Tarantulas climbs a webline up to the suspended formation. Optimus and his cargo, Rattrap, arrive moments later. The two watch Terrorsaur re-charge his systems. To give Rattrap time to plant the explosives, Optimus Primal engages Terrorsaur in an airborne chase. Primal swiftly dodges most of what Terrorsaur fires, but eventually is hit by his [[Optic weaponry|optic blasts]]. He lands to deliver the finishing blast to Primal, who is now trapped in his beast mode thanks to energon buildup. But before a final shot can be fired, Terrorsaur's energon enhancements run out again, and he is forced to go for another recharge, promising to return to finish Optimus.

Rattrap meanwhile, has been tussling with Tarantulas, the two of them staying in their Beast Modes as they wrestle. With a toss of mud, Rattrap blinds Tarantulas and the spider blindly runs off the side of the mountain to the ground far, far below. Rattrap is passed by the flapping Terrorsaur, and concludes that Optimus Primal must have lost their bout. Terrorsaur, meanwhile, discovers the timed charges Rattrap left, and flees in panic without recharging.

The explosives detonate, causing the energon crystals to collapse and explode. Before the ground loses form, Optimus arrives to carry Rattrap away from annihilation. With his ratty companion, Optimus Primal swan dives off the exploding alp and somehow the two survive thanks to Primal grabbing onto a tree.

Terrorsaur, no longer having the island's resources to rely on, returns home to meet a very, very angry Megatron.

The most obvious effect is a mode-based inversion of organic and mechanical composition: A Transmetal's [[beast mode]] is mostly mechanical, and his or her robot mode bears many organic elements, such as [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]]'s furry chest. Transmetallization sometimes also produces a third "mobility" mode, which is essentially the beast mode with some vehicular additions. Examples include [[Rattrap]] as a wheeled rat, [[Optimus Primal]] as a sky-surfing gorilla, and [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] as a [[Wikipedia:VTOL|VTOL]]-enhanced [[Wikipedia:Rollerblade|Rollerblader]].

One more subtle effect of Transmetallization is immunity to certain [[Vok]] weaponry that would debilitate a normal Transformer. [[Tarantulas (BW)|Tarantulas]] hypothesized that this is because Transmetals are closer to being Vok themselves. Most Transmetals had additional weapons and seemingly enhanced power levels. They were immune to some [[Vok]] weapons and did not show up on Vok scanners—Tarantulas took the view that the quantum surge's effects meant they were "one with [the Vok] now".

Transmetals were possibly immune to the effects of [[Energon (fuel)|energon]] radiation. The evidence is scant, since most of the energon deposits on [[Earth]]'s surface had been destroyed or converted to stable [[Energon cube|energon cubes]] by the Planet Buster cannon. Underground, where the [[Vehicon (BM)|Vehicons]] have failed to look, the four [[Maximal]]s gather. Under the teachings of [[Optimus Primal]], the team try to relearn their new [[transformation]]s. However, it is no longer simple command codes, but now requires emotional balance and deep concentration since their reformatting at the hands of the [[Oracle (BM)|Oracle]]. [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] and [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] manage to use their technorganic transformations properly, but [[Rattrap]] still has trouble with his new body. But their time in robot mode is limited, as a rumbling shakes the chamber and a [[Vehicon Mole]] attacks the Maximals. The shock has forced Cheetor and Blackarachnia back into their beast modes, and they take shelter behind Primal.

Optimus Primal leaps in front of the frightened Maximals and deflects the blasts, all the while explaining that they reverted because they lost their emotional balance. Primal destroys the mindless Vehicon with a blast of energy, but knows it's time to leave, hopefully to find a new base and continue their transformation lessons. However, his idea is met with mild rebuff by Cheetor and Blackarachnia. They believe that they should seek out any survivors and reformat them, using them to destroy the drones. But Optimus overrules them, saying they need to get a handle on their new transformations before they go out looking for trouble. They split up to search out a new base. Blackarachnia and Cheetor are paired together (real smart pairing them up, ya big [[Trukk not munky|munky]]), and Rattrap and Primal go the opposite way.

Cheetor and Blackarachnia (with some goading on Blackarachnia's part) decide to go topside. As soon as they clamber up from the caves, they discover that they are in [[Cybertropolis]], the new capital of Cybertron after [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]]'s size made it useless to the [[Great Upgrade|new population]]. But there is a problem; Cybertropolis should be home to "ten million Transformers", but the duo find it deserted, and [[Cybertron InfoCore]] has been deleted.

Before the pair can investigate further, they are attacked by [[Aero Drone]]s, and plunge off the side of a building before they can slide to safety. As he runs, Cheetor attempts to transform, but he hasn't found his spiritual center yet and remains in cat mode. Blackarachnia traps two of the jets with her webs, but more arrive. Fortunately, Optimus arrives. He quickly transforms into robot mode and takes to the air, but is soon overwhelmed.

Cheetor and Blackarachnia manage to transform, and they quickly dispatch the drones, Blackarachnia using electrical "stinger" energy and Cheetor's scimitars. Optimus scolds Cheetor for disobeying orders, but is intrigued at their findings. Optimus orders the group to head to the [[Council Citadel]], hoping to find answers. Rattrap moves ahead of the rest of the group but encounters Tank Drones. Optimus orders Cheetor and Blackarachnia to hold off the drones while he investigates inside. When he gets inside, he heads to the chambers of the [[Maximal Elder]]s.

Reaching the council meeting room, Optimus Primal comes face to face with the leader of the drones—[[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]], now encased in a suit of control armor. He greets Primal cordially, and decides to "fill in" the gaps in Primal's memory. Megatron claims that he won the [[Beast Wars (event)|Beast Wars]], and that he decided to remodel Cybertron into his own image, one of technological purity, devoid of organic life. Thus, he explains, came the [[Vehicon (BM)|Vehicons]], [[spark]]less Transformers who will serve Megatron and crush Primal's "mongrel" Maximals.

However, the Maximals manage to survive the Vehicons, their technorganic bodies and spark-powered ingenuity foiling the mindless might of the drones. Frustrated by the Maximals' survival, and with some goading by Optimus Primal, the enraged Megatron breaks free of his harness and transforms into his [[Alternate mode|dragon mode]], deactivating the drones in the process. Primal and Megatron fight, but Megatron reconnects to his [[control harness]], and summons more Vehicons, mocking Primal all the while. The Maximals arrive, and barely manage to drag Primal away.

When the Maximals inquire about what happened, Optimus Primal tells them that this all happened because he failed to destroy Megatron. However, it is now up to Primal to correct that mistake.

==Synopsis==

Underground, where the [[Vehicon (BM)|Vehicons]] have failed to look, the four [[Maximal]]s gather. Under the teachings of [[Optimus Primal]], the team try to relearn their new [[transformation]]s. However, it is no longer simple command codes, but now requires emotional balance and deep concentration since their reformatting at the hands of the [[Oracle (BM)|Oracle]]. [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]] and [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] manage to use their technorganic transformations properly, but [[Rattrap]] still has trouble with his new body. But their time in robot mode is limited, as a rumbling shakes the chamber and a [[Vehicon Mole]] attacks the Maximals. The shock has forced Cheetor and Blackarachnia back into their beast modes, and they take shelter behind Primal.

Optimus Primal leaps in front of the frightened Maximals and deflects the blasts, all the while explaining that they reverted because they lost their emotional balance. Primal destroys the mindless Vehicon with a blast of energy, but knows it's time to leave, hopefully to find a new base and continue their transformation lessons. However, his idea is met with mild rebuff by Cheetor and Blackarachnia. They believe that they should seek out any survivors and reformat them, using them to destroy the drones. But Optimus overrules them, saying they need to get a handle on their new transformations before they go out looking for trouble. They split up to search out a new base. Blackarachnia and Cheetor are paired together (real smart pairing them up, ya big [[Trukk not munky|munky]]), and Rattrap and Primal go the opposite way.

Cheetor and Blackarachnia (with some goading on Blackarachnia's part) decide to go topside. As soon as they clamber up from the caves, they discover that they are in [[Cybertropolis]], the new capital of Cybertron after [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]]'s size made it useless to the [[Great Upgrade|new population]]. But there is a problem; Cybertropolis should be home to "ten million Transformers", but the duo find it deserted, and [[Cybertron InfoCore]] has been deleted.

Before the pair can investigate further, they are attacked by [[Aero Drone]]s, and plunge off the side of a building before they can slide to safety. As he runs, Cheetor attempts to transform, but he hasn't found his spiritual center yet and remains in cat mode. Blackarachnia traps two of the jets with her webs, but more arrive. Fortunately, Optimus arrives. He quickly transforms into robot mode and takes to the air, but is soon overwhelmed.

Cheetor and Blackarachnia manage to transform, and they quickly dispatch the drones, Blackarachnia using electrical "stinger" energy and Cheetor's scimitars. Optimus scolds Cheetor for disobeying orders, but is intrigued at their findings. Optimus orders the group to head to the [[Council Citadel]], hoping to find answers. Rattrap moves ahead of the rest of the group but encounters Tank Drones. Optimus orders Cheetor and Blackarachnia to hold off the drones while he investigates inside. When he gets inside, he heads to the chambers of the [[Maximal Elder]]s.

Reaching the council meeting room, Optimus Primal comes face to face with the leader of the drones—[[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]], now encased in a suit of control armor. He greets Primal cordially, and decides to "fill in" the gaps in Primal's memory. Megatron claims that he won the [[Beast Wars (event)|Beast Wars]], and that he decided to remodel Cybertron into his own image, one of technological purity, devoid of organic life. Thus, he explains, came the [[Vehicon (BM)|Vehicons]], [[spark]]less Transformers who will serve Megatron and crush Primal's "mongrel" Maximals.

However, the Maximals manage to survive the Vehicons, their technorganic bodies and spark-powered ingenuity foiling the mindless might of the drones. Frustrated by the Maximals' survival, and with some goading by Optimus Primal, the enraged Megatron breaks free of his harness and transforms into his [[Alternate mode|dragon mode]], deactivating the drones in the process. Primal and Megatron fight, but Megatron reconnects to his [[control harness]], and summons more Vehicons, mocking Primal all the while. The Maximals arrive, and barely manage to drag Primal away.

When the Maximals inquire about what happened, Optimus Primal tells them that this all happened because he failed to destroy Megatron. However, it is now up to Primal to correct that mistake.

* Megatron's dragon form looks like a patchwork cyborg rather than the smooth, reddish version it originally was; as we find out in subsequent episodes, this is due to a large number of failed experiments to rid his body of all organic elements. His robot form has apparently undergone alterations as well, since the cloak covering his body appears to be integral to it rather than a part of the control helmet device he is continuously plugged into.

The [[Maximal]]s, secure for the first time since they moved into [[Mount St. Hilary]], begin searching for the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacons]], who have been vulnerable since [[Tigerhawk]] destroyed the [[Darksyde|Predacon base]]. [[Optimus Primal]] quotes a verse from the [[Covenant of Primus]], believing Tigerhawk's arrival to be divine prophecy.

Meanwhile, the Predacons are growing disaffected with Megatron. (Even [[Waspinator]] is mouthing off.) [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]], ever loyal to his "queen", declares that a new "colony" will resecure them. Megatron orders him to take Waspinator and [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]], while he, [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]], and [[Dinobot II|Dinobot]] search the remains of [[Tarantulas's lair]]. Dinobot finds a hatch which leads to an underwater tunnel and a computer. Accessing the computer, Megatron becomes quite excited by what he discovers, and takes the rail car with Dinobot II, while Rampage follows in tank mode.

[[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]] and [[Depth Charge (BW)|Depth Charge]] spot Inferno, Waspinator, and Quickstrike leaving. Optimus orders them to fall back, but Depth Charge heads in. Optimus leaves with [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]], [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]], and Tigerhawk to support them. As Primal arrives, Depth Charge finds the hatch—and a bomb. The explosion fails to kill any of the Maximals, but Silverbolt is damaged, and Blackarachnia and Cheetor escort his parts back to base.

At the protohumans' cave dwellings, Inferno declares that the caves will be their new "colony". He orders Quickstrike and Waspinator to engage, but Waspinator angrily refuses. Something has finally snapped in Waspy's central processor, and he declares that he is out of the Beast Wars. After a tirade against Megatron, the Predacons, life in general, and always being blown up, Waspinator tells them that they can kiss his stinger. Inferno and Quickstrike blast him, and proceed to attack the protohumans (who have become much tougher, having learned from the example of [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] and the Maximals).

In the tunnels, Primal, Tigerhawk, and Depth Charge continue searching. After locating a data terminal, Primal accesses it and discovers what Tarantulas found and Megatron desires—the ''[[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]'', the flagship of the [[Decepticon fleet]] and the vessel which [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] used to shoot down the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]]. Realizing the threat the Decepticon warship holds, Depth Charge heads out to locate it. Optimus sends out an emergency warning to the Maximals, and he and Tigerhawk head out to the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s location through the air.

Meanwhile, Megatron and Dinobot are able to board the ship, where they discover that Tarantulas had been a busy spider: not only did he repair the vessel, he added a [[transwarp]] cell and installed a Predacon control console. Best of all, in Megatron's optics, Tarantulas left behind a copy of the Covenant of Primus to boot: the tome from which he [[Megatron (myth)|took his name]]! Megatron and Dinobot begin powering up the vessel for an attack.

Reaching the sunken behemoth, Depth Charge informs Optimus of his discovery, and Optimus in turn authorizes Depth Charge to neutralize the ''Nemesis'' by any means necessary. Before Depth Charge can start, he is engaged by Rampage. The two enemies fight, and Depth Charge grabs an [[energon crystal]]. He drives it into Rampage's [[spark]], and the explosion destroys both Transformers and also causes Dinobot to cry out in pain. Optimus, though mourning Depth Charge's loss, is relieved to know the threat of the ''Nemesis'' has been dealt with.

This does rather raise the question of what point their respective flight modes actually serve anymore.
* At the beginning of the episode, when Rattrap holds up the Covenant of Primus, the Maximal variant of [[Cybertronix]] text can be seen. It reads "7 613 were cast out with him a cork one fork and a bowl of beans between them". This presumably follows the portion of the Covenant read by Primal, Datatrack 7.613: "And a mighty warrior came down from the sky, and a rainbow was upon his head, and his feet as pillars of fire. And the great dragon was cast out onto the earth, and his followers were cast out with him."
* The copy of the Covenent of Primus on the Nemesis has the Autobot symbol on the cover.
* This is clearly the only time Waspinator refers to himself as "I." This is also (regrettably) the last time Waspinator is slagged as a participant of the Beast Wars.

*Since Transmetal 2 Megatron has his beast-mode head as a robot-mode arm as his original T-Rex body did, Megatron's... odd relationship with his hand has returned. In this two-parter, he can not only be seen petting the dragon-head, but at one point, he turns from a monitor he's watching, and his head-hand turns toward it, and actually moves back and forth as it observes the on-screen events.

===Animation and technical errors===
* When Dinobot squeezes the piece of Rampage's spark he possesses to pacify his "half-brother", his shoulder pads are missing. Also, the spark seems to float freely when it is released, in contrast to previous episodes where it was held in place by Dinobot's spark chamber.
* At the very beginning when Optimus is reciting, Cheetor is visible in the background in his normal Transmetal body, walking with Blackarachnia.
*Megatron must have had a tight fit climbing down the hatch that Dinobot found.
*Una must be a very strong protohuman to smash a sizable lump into Waspinator's skull.

===Continuity errors===
*The ''Beast Wars'' retelling of the Ark's crash and the Nemesis differs from any previous version. In the original cartoon, the Decepticons used the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s tractor beam to lock onto the Ark, and it was the Autobot/Decepticon fight inside the Ark that caused it to crash. (As elaborated in "[[More than Meets the Eye, Part 1]]" and "[[Microbots]]".) In the [[The Transformers (Marvel comic)|Marvel comics]], the Decepticons boarded the ship, and Optimus ''deliberately'' crashed the Ark onto Earth, in "[[The Transformers (issue)|The Transformers]]", with the ''Nemesis'' being left abandoned. (The UK comics had [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] destroy it in "[[Target: 2006]]".) As ''Beast Wars'' is intentionally not a direct continuation of any specific continuity, instead seeking to treat all previous Generation 1 stories as if they were Arthurian legend, this would imply that those accounts are not canonical in this series. Alternatively, Optimus could just have the details wrong.
* The flashbacks to the battle between the Ark and the ''Nemesis'' recounted by Optimus Primal and Megatron neglect to mention that the Decepticons boarded the Ark before the crash. This was probably done either to simplify the retelling, increase the significance of the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s involvement, or both.
* The bomb Megatron left behind as a trap for the Maximals has some very curious properties. It has enough power to severely damage Silverbolt and creates a powerful energy wave that is felt by the approaching Cheetor and Tigerhawk, who are miles away (even disintegrating a butterfly in the process). However, despite all of the above, Optimus and Depth Charge suffer absolutely no ill effects from the bomb, despite being at extremely close range and having very little time (or even room, given the terrain) to run for cover. Depth Charge opened the hatch, but Silverbolt is the one who got damaged. Assuming that there was very little time to get away, Silverbolt could have jumped in front of Depth Charge to protect him (but why would he?), but it is still misleading going into the commercial break.
* How ''exactly'' did Megatron construct a bomb from scratch to begin with? With his base destroyed in the previous episode, it seems very unlikely that he would have the materials to create one on hand.

*Megatron refers to Tarantulas as [[Unicron]]'s spawn. While from the context this appears to have been a generic insult (equivalent to "bastard" or "son of a bitch"), convention-exclusive fiction like ''[[Primeval Dawn]]'' have depicted Tarantulas as a literal creation of Unicron.
*This is the first source to give the Decepticon vessel that attacked the Ark a name.

The [[Maximal]]s, secure for the first time since they moved into [[Mount St. Hilary]], begin searching for the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacons]], who have been vulnerable since [[Tigerhawk]] destroyed the [[Darksyde|Predacon base]]. [[Optimus Primal]] quotes a verse from the [[Covenant of Primus]], believing Tigerhawk's arrival to be divine prophecy.

Meanwhile, the Predacons are growing disaffected with Megatron. (Even [[Waspinator]] is mouthing off.) [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]], ever loyal to his "queen", declares that a new "colony" will resecure them. Megatron orders him to take Waspinator and [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]], while he, [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]], and [[Dinobot II|Dinobot]] search the remains of [[Tarantulas's lair]]. Dinobot finds a hatch which leads to an underwater tunnel and a computer. Accessing the computer, Megatron becomes quite excited by what he discovers, and takes the rail car with Dinobot II, while Rampage follows in tank mode.

[[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]] and [[Depth Charge (BW)|Depth Charge]] spot Inferno, Waspinator, and Quickstrike leaving. Optimus orders them to fall back, but Depth Charge heads in. Optimus leaves with [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]], [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]], and Tigerhawk to support them. As Primal arrives, Depth Charge finds the hatch—and a bomb. The explosion fails to kill any of the Maximals, but Silverbolt is damaged, and Blackarachnia and Cheetor escort his parts back to base.

At the protohumans' cave dwellings, Inferno declares that the caves will be their new "colony". He orders Quickstrike and Waspinator to engage, but Waspinator angrily refuses. Something has finally snapped in Waspy's central processor, and he declares that he is out of the Beast Wars. After a tirade against Megatron, the Predacons, life in general, and always being blown up, Waspinator tells them that they can kiss his stinger. Inferno and Quickstrike blast him, and proceed to attack the protohumans (who have become much tougher, having learned from the example of [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] and the Maximals).

In the tunnels, Primal, Tigerhawk, and Depth Charge continue searching. After locating a data terminal, Primal accesses it and discovers what Tarantulas found and Megatron desires—the ''[[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]'', the flagship of the [[Decepticon fleet]] and the vessel which [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] used to shoot down the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]]. Realizing the threat the Decepticon warship holds, Depth Charge heads out to locate it. Optimus sends out an emergency warning to the Maximals, and he and Tigerhawk head out to the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s location through the air.

Meanwhile, Megatron and Dinobot are able to board the ship, where they discover that Tarantulas had been a busy spider: not only did he repair the vessel, he added a [[transwarp]] cell and installed a Predacon control console. Best of all, in Megatron's optics, Tarantulas left behind a copy of the Covenant of Primus to boot: the tome from which he [[Megatron (myth)|took his name]]! Megatron and Dinobot begin powering up the vessel for an attack.

Reaching the sunken behemoth, Depth Charge informs Optimus of his discovery, and Optimus in turn authorizes Depth Charge to neutralize the ''Nemesis'' by any means necessary. Before Depth Charge can start, he is engaged by Rampage. The two enemies fight, and Depth Charge grabs an [[energon crystal]]. He drives it into Rampage's [[spark]], and the explosion destroys both Transformers and also causes Dinobot to cry out in pain. Optimus, though mourning Depth Charge's loss, is relieved to know the threat of the ''Nemesis'' has been dealt with.

That is, until the ''Nemesis'' rises from the ocean, fully operational. [[Nemesis Part 2|To be continued...]]

* At the very beginning when Optimus is reciting, Cheetor is visible in the background in his normal Transmetal body, walking with Blackarachnia.
*Megatron must have had a tight fit climbing down the hatch that Dinobot found.
*Una must be a very strong protohuman to smash a sizable lump into Waspinator's skull.

===Continuity errors===
*The ''Beast Wars'' retelling of the Ark's crash and the Nemesis differs from any previous version. In the original cartoon, the Decepticons used the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s tractor beam to lock onto the Ark, and it was the Autobot/Decepticon fight inside the Ark that caused it to crash. (As elaborated in "[[More than Meets the Eye, Part 1]]" and "[[Microbots]]".) In the [[The Transformers (Marvel comic)|Marvel comics]], the Decepticons boarded the ship, and Optimus ''deliberately'' crashed the Ark onto Earth, in "[[The Transformers (issue)|The Transformers]]", with the ''Nemesis'' being left abandoned. (The UK comics had [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] destroy it in "[[Target: 2006]]".) As ''Beast Wars'' is intentionally not a direct continuation of any specific continuity, instead seeking to treat all previous Generation 1 stories as if they were Arthurian legend, this would imply that those accounts are not canonical in this series. Alternatively, Optimus could just have the details wrong.
* The flashbacks to the battle between the Ark and the ''Nemesis'' recounted by Optimus Primal and Megatron neglect to mention that the Decepticons boarded the Ark before the crash. This was probably done either to simplify the retelling, increase the significance of the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s involvement, or both.
* The bomb Megatron left behind as a trap for the Maximals has some very curious properties. It has enough power to severely damage Silverbolt and creates a powerful energy wave that is felt by the approaching Cheetor and Tigerhawk, who are miles away (even disintegrating a butterfly in the process). However, despite all of the above, Optimus and Depth Charge suffer absolutely no ill effects from the bomb, despite being at extremely close range and having very little time (or even room, given the terrain) to run for cover. Depth Charge opened the hatch, but Silverbolt is the one who got damaged. Assuming that there was very little time to get away, Silverbolt could have jumped in front of Depth Charge to protect him (but why would he?), but it is still misleading going into the commercial break.
* How ''exactly'' did Megatron construct a bomb from scratch to begin with? With his base destroyed in the previous episode, it seems very unlikely that he would have the materials to create one on hand.

[[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] has raised the ''[[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]'' from its watery grave and has begun a random attack on everything in sight, all the while quoting the [[Covenant of Primus]]. After telling Rhinox to "deploy [[Operation Eternity]]", [[Optimus Primal]] and [[Tigerhawk]] attempt to fight it off, but their weapons don't even scratch the hull. Tigerhawk tells Primal to rally the Maximals and that he will remain to fight. On the ''Nemesis'', [[Dinobot II|Dinobot]] is commenting that his [[spark]] has changed and feels complete. Aspects of [[Dinobot (BW)|the original Dinobot]] begin to emerge. He admires Tigerhawk's defense. Tigerhawk is able to damage power on several decks, limiting Megatron's offensive options to using the fusion cannon, which he uses to destroy Tigerhawk. Going to the [[Protohuman]] settlement, Megatron prepares to destroy it. Dinobot objects, asking where the honor is in such an act, but Megatron fires anyway, killing [[Inferno (BW)|Inferno]] and [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]] in the process.

At [[Mount St. Hilary]], the Maximals are preparing a last-ditch strategy—bring the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] online and fight the ''Nemesis''. However, the ship has been offline too long, and [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] and [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] are having trouble restoring power. The ''Nemesis'' arrives, but Tigerhawk's attack has depleted its [[energon]] reserves, and the fusion cannon requires time to recharge. Megatron activates its tractor beam, and Primal enters the ''Nemesis''. He and Megatron duke it out, but the Predacon clearly has the advantage. On the Ark, the Maximals manage to get the engines on line, but they burn out almost instantly. [[Rattrap]] proclaims that they are all going to die, and for once, no one tells him to shut up. Instead, the characteristically stoic Rhinox simply responds with "Yup".

However, Dinobot, disapproving of Megatron's actions, sends a message to the Maximals of an [[Autobot Shuttle Omega Delta|Autobot shuttle]] stored in the Ark. Megatron orders Dinobot to fire, but he refuses, stating that he has his honor. In a last bid to save them all, Rhinox pilots the shuttle on a collision course with the ''Nemesis''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s bridge, crashing through the viewport and going out the other side. Optimus urges Dinobot to save himself, but he remains with the ship, bidding farewell to Primal. As the ''Nemesis'' crashes, Primal rejoins the Maximals.

Some time later, the Maximals, having repaired the shuttle and rigged a [[transwarp]] cell to it, leave [[Earth]] for [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Optimus, piloting the ship, declares that the [[Beast Wars (event)|Beast Wars]] are over, and memorializes the Maximals who fell during the war. Rattrap, however, is more happy to be going home and points out that they won't have to see Megatron 'til they get there, as the Predacon is tied to the hull of their shuttle. As the shuttle enters transwarp, the scene shifts to the Protohumans, who have built a village and are using parts of Inferno and Quickstrike in a ritual to celebrate their new leader...[[Waspinator]].

Waspinator declares that he is "happy at last".

When Inferno's [[stasis pod]] crashed to prehistoric [[Earth]], [[Tarantulas (BW)|Tarantulas]] and [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] immediately set out to claim him as their own. Unfortunately, Inferno had been awakened automatically, having scanned the form of a fire ant. Moreover, his beast mode came to overwhelm his logic circuits, causing Inferno to become wholly convinced that he was an actual fire ant and that his stasis pod was his "colony". [[Airazor (BW)|Airazor]] arrived at the scene and was immediately attacked by Inferno and Blackarachnia. During the fight, Tarantulas escaped with the stasis pod, which was his real goal, and an enraged Inferno followed. Pursuing the Predacons, [[Tigatron]] was able to destroy the stasis pod before Tarantulas was able to get it to his lab. This act put Inferno completely over the edge, and he went even crazier (if possible). Before he could finish Tigatron off, however, [[Optimus Primal|Optimus]] and [[Airazor (BW)|Airazor]] showed up and blew him to bits.

However, [[Megatron (BW)|Megatron]] took an immediate shine to the brutish psychopath, stating, "Oooohhh, I ''like'' him," and had him restored, possibly with some mental improvements. Thereafter, Inferno was fanatically loyal to Megatron, thinking of him as his "Queen", which Megatron found ''very'' annoying. A few death threats convinced Inferno to call Megatron "the Royalty" instead, although he occasionally backslid. {{storylink|Spider's Game}}

Inferno took part in the Predacon hunt after the Maximals' beast instincts had overtaken their programming. He merrily shot at their quarry, at least until the Maximals were able to overcome their beast instincts. Then he was shot out of the air by [[Cheetor (BW)|Cheetor]]. {{storylink|Call of the Wild}} He led a diversionary assault on the ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]'' with [[Waspinator (BW)|Waspinator]] and [[Terrorsaur (BW)|Terrorsaur]] to allow Tarantulas to deliver an [[energon discharge virus]], and later accompanied his Queen to [[Tarantulas's lair]] to find more of the virus. Unfortunately, this meant he was at ground zero when [[Rhinox (BW)|Rhinox]] blew the Predacons away with an enormous fart. {{storylink|The Low Road}}

Though supposedly under Terrorsaur's leadership for an attack on Cheetor and [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]], Inferno didn't wait for the signal to attack, instead plunging into frenzied battle. Though he had Cheetor pinned down for most of the fight, he was blasted out of the air by Tigatron. The three Predacons later ambushed Dinobot, defeating the Maximal before Terrorsaur and Waspinator were both taken out by Optimus. Inferno had Dinobot and Primal in his sights when Tigatron turned up to defend them. Inferno's act of igniting a nearby tree only made the Maximal more furious, and Inferno was soon blown away. {{storylink|Law of the Jungle}}

Sent on a mission by the Royalty, Inferno discovered a [[Golden Disk (Vok)|Golden Disk]] and managed to retrieve it, even as his systems were suffering from energon overload. After returning to base, he underwent repairs and subsequently took part in an attempt to stop Tigatron escaping the ''[[Darksyde]]''. He plummeted out of the air after Primal disconnected his jet thruster, and he had to be hauled back to base. {{storylink|Before the Storm}}

It wasn't long before he was given a new mission by the Royalty, and he tailed Blackarachnia and Tarantulas to the ''Axalon'', though he was temporarily delayed by having to dig a tunnel under the ship's force field. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 1}} He found the two spiders in the hold of the ''Axalon'', working on a stasis pod. Blasting Blackarachnia and setting Tarantulas on fire, Inferno barely had time to check out what they were doing before Blackarachnia recovered and shot him back. {{storylink|Other Voices, Part 2}} After pulling himself together, he attacked Rhinox and Dinobot on the ''Axalon''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s bridge, eventually being defeated and thrown bodily from the ship. After the two [[Fuzor]]s were "born", Inferno attacked them vigorously until the Royalty batted him aside and talked the pair into joining the Predacons. [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]] later rode Inferno into battle against Dinobot, Cheetor and [[Rattrap]]. {{storylink|Coming of the Fuzors (Part 1)}} A mid-air collision saw Inferno and the Royalty temporarily swapping heads. The Predacons were on the verge of victory when [[Optimus Primal]] appeared, reborn as a [[Transmetal]]. Inferno managed to pin Dinobot down but ran out of ammo, and he would probably have been torn apart by the Maximal if it wasn't for Waspinator managing to take out [[Silverbolt (BW)|Silverbolt]] and Dinobot with one shot. Always keen to shoot something, Inferno joined Blackarachnia and the Royalty on a mission to infiltrate the ''Axalon''. While the Queen distracted Rhinox, Inferno and Blackarachnia slipped inside, and Inferno was able to blast the Maximal. Unfortunately, Rhinox quickly recovered and dealt Inferno a flurry of uppercuts to the chin, but this only gave the Royalty the chance to come to his loyal soldier's aid, and the trio were able to make off with the alien Golden Disk. The Predacons later visited an alien site and were blasted by an [[Metal Hunter|alien construct]] which appeared there. {{storylink|Other Visits (Part 1)}} The Royalty was able to take control of the construct, restoring Inferno and the others to the land of the living, before sending him on a mission with Waspinator to retrieve a [[transwarp cell]]. Afterward, Inferno was pressed into action defending the construct from the Maximals, and thus wasn't aboard when it exploded. {{storylink|Other Visits (Part 2)}}

Inferno, Quickstrike and the Royalty monitored Silverbolt and Blackarachnia, and Inferno wondered aloud why the spider didn't shoot the Fuzor. {{storylink|Bad Spark}} He merrily torched a valley full of [[protohuman]]s until Dinobot impaled him, used him as a shield, and then used Inferno's own gun to blow his head off. {{storylink|Code of Hero}} Inferno was sent to retrieve a new stasis pod, only to be disabled by Silverbolt. He recovered and fired on Silverbolt...and hit [[Transmutate (character)|Transmutate]] instead, triggering the creature to unleash its attack on everyone present. Inferno was surprisingly the only one sensible enough to duck the blast, and later joined [[Rampage (BW)|Rampage]] in presenting the newcomer to his Queen. After some negotiation, the Royalty agreed to give Transmutate a chance, and the trio ambushed Silverbolt. With rescue for the Maximals seemingly impending, the Predacons mounted a full attack on the ''Axalon'', only to be driven off by [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]]'s cloaked [[transwarp cruiser]]. The Maximals subsequently teamed up to assault the Predacon base. During the attack, Inferno attempted to blast Rhinox, only to be perforated by a chaingun. {{storylink|The Agenda (Part 1)}} Megatron's troops were scattered after the defeat, Inferno heading for a cave full of [[Energon (fuel)|energon]]. There he was found by Primal and Cheetor, and he ended up sacrificing himself by detonating a huge cache of energon in a failed attempt to defeat the Maximals. {{storylink|The Agenda (Part 2)}} Despite his apparent vaporization, he revived yet again, though with several holes in his chassis. He joined his Queen at the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]], and they headed for the ''Axalon'' along with Waspinator. They never reached their objective, being intercepted by Optimus Primal and Cheetor while still en route. {{storylink|Optimal Situation}}

Inferno was assigned to attack the new Maximal base with Rampage. Inferno's plan to draw Optimus out seemed to work, but Rampage had gotten distracted and left Inferno to it, and the fire ant was swiftly crushed by a boulder dropped by Blackarachnia. {{storylink|Deep Metal}} Inferno was next teamed up with Waspinator and Quickstrike to attempt to steal the [[Sentinel (BW)|Sentinel]] module from the Maximals. After Waspinator was taken out by Silverbolt and Rattrap, Inferno pursued them relentlessly until he was able to snatch the module and return triumphantly with it to his Queen. {{storylink|Changing of the Guard}}

During a period when the Maximal base was undermanned, Inferno took part in an attack lead by his Queen. When Quickstrike was given lead position as they entered the base, Inferno asked why he hadn't been chosen, but the reason became clear moments later as Quickstrike was taken out by a sequence of booby traps. The Predacons stormed the base, but met with heavy resistance in the form of [[Depth Charge (BW)|Depth Charge]], and were forced to retreat. {{storylink|Cutting Edge}} After Inferno plugged in the Predacons' new [[disruptor cannon]] too soon, he and Waspinator were forced to kidnap [[Una]] to complete installing the shielding. The task was completed, but Una escaped with Rattrap's help. Inferno, Waspinator and [[Dinobot II|Dinobot]] gave chase, only to end up colliding after Rattrap flicked mud into Waspinator's face. They returned to the cave housing the cannon in time for its firing, but as Una had taken the stabilizer crystal, it merely exploded. {{storylink|Go with the Flow}}

As the Predacons attempted to disrupt the power in the Maximal base during an operation to save Blackarachnia, Inferno managed to find the blind spot for the Maximal auto-guns from which he could safely fire. While crowing that the traitor would soon be destroyed, he was attacked by Optimus. He managed to dodge the missiles, but the move took him out of the blind spot, and he was promptly blasted by the auto-guns. {{storylink|Crossing the Rubicon}} A new plan allowed the Predacons to conquer the Maximal base, and Inferno was left in charge of the unconscious Maximals. Blackarachnia, the only one still functioning, got him to chase her and tricked him into stepping outside the base so she could shut him out and turn the auto-guns on him. {{storylink|Master Blaster}}

The destruction of the ''[[Darksyde]]'' at the hands of the [[Vok]]s' emissary, [[Tigerhawk]], left Inferno distraught at the loss of their colony. A short time later, he, Waspinator and Quickstrike were literally blown away by Tigerhawk. {{storylink|Other Victories}} After Inferno asserted that they needed to found a new colony, the Royalty sent him with Quickstrike and Waspinator to do just that. They soon found a potential new colony in the form of a protohuman settlement and, after the setback of Waspinator abandoning the cause and having to be shot, Inferno and Quickstike began their takeover. Unfortunately, the protohumans had been learning and met force with resistance. {{storylink|Nemesis Part 1}} Nonetheless, they seemed to succeed largely in driving the protohumans out, and they celebrated as the ''[[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]'' appeared overhead. The celebration was short-lived, as moments later, the ship's main [[fusion cannon]] obliterated the area, killing both Predacons.
