:Signal Lancer is an Autobot from the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.

After the Autobots were evacuated from Cybertron to Earth, Signal Lancer (シグナルランサー Shigunaru Ransā) is one of several Transformers who took the form of a stoplight. Located in a remote portion of the American desert, his only friend was a Transformer who turned into a pay phone located directly across the road.

Fiction
Cybertron cartoon
:Voice actor: Paul Dobson (English), Takayasu Usui (Japanese)

On Lori's suggestion, Signal Lancer was given a traffic light alternate mode and stationed out in the desert. A random driver was stopped by his red light, and was puzzled to find traffic signals where there wasn't even a cross-road. He attempted to drive on, only for Signal Lancer to warn him about running red lights. The spectacle of a talking traffic light terrified the poor man, who sped away—as soon as Signal Lancer turned green. Lori told the newbie he shouldn't talk when he was in disguise, though Signal Lancer thought his assignment was going to be very boring as a result. Coby later told Lori that her traffic light disguise idea was a lame one. Hidden

Signal Lancer passed on information about the seal of Atlantis to an Autobot refugee disguised as a tour bus. Search At some point, Signal Lancer relocated to the middle of a city along with an Autobot disguised as a payphone. They were there when Starscream's forces began searching the planet, and observed that the situation was getting worse by the minute. Invasion (episode)

A short time after, Signal Lancer was hanging out back in the desert with the tour bus refugee when Jetfire made an announcement that the Autobots would be departing from Earth as part of a plan to save it from Starscream's forces. Retreat When Megatron invaded Niagara Falls, Signal Lancer helped the Autobots evacuate the surrounding area by flashing his lights and announcing there was a tornado coming. Revelation (episode)

He later returned to the desert where he was joined in his vigil by the payphone refugee. After the universe was saved from the threat of the Unicron Singularity and following the defeat of Galvatron, he stopped Tim Hansen and Chief Dobson's car as the two humans chatted about the future. After Signal Lancer turned green and the car had moved off, he announced he was going to answer the call of destiny. Transforming, he left his post and dashed off into the night. His payphone pal wished him good luck and requested he keep in contact. A short time later, Dobson passed back that way and was confused to see that the traffic light was missing.

Signal Lancer joined Metroplex's crew and journeyed out into space to work on constructing a new space bridge. Beginning

Cyber Key Code content
After the Omega Lock was retrieved and Galvatron finally defeated, "the Traffic Light Autobot" was commissioned by Optimus Prime to join Hightail as his partner and travel across Earth, mapping out every road on the planet.

TransTech
Signal Lancer was one of countless "offworlders" residing in Axiom Nexus. He had a drink with the Vehicon Thrust. Gone Too Far

Notes
*Signal Lancer is only named in Galaxy Force (the Japanese version of Cybertron).
* During the early development stages of the Galaxy Force cartoon series, GONZO actually created a concept design for the robot mode of the initially unnamed "Traffic Light TF" (seen at top). When Signal Lancer finally revealed his robot mode (and name) in the series' (chronologically) final episode, Mudflap's general animation model and transformation scheme was used as a basis, but the details for the robot mode were directly based on the old concept design. The early design was shown at the Tokyo Anime Fair a few months after the Galaxy Force cartoon series was launched in Japan (see here), and was eventually reprinted in the booklet included with the first Galaxy Force DVD.
* In South African English, a traffic signal is called a "robot". So Signal Lancer is a robot who turns into a robot.

The Transformers: Masterpiece (トランスフォーマー マスターピース) is a toyline of collector-focused toys that are mostly based upon characters from the Generation 1 cartoon, but manufactured with today's advanced engineering techniques. As a line aimed towards collectors, Masterpiece Transformers tend to be very expensive.

Though the Masterpiece line is largely developed by Takara/TakaraTomy with the Japanese market in mind, the line is also distributed by Hasbro in Asian markets outside Japan, and in Australia as Target and Toys"R"Us exclusives. Hasbro has also redecoed/retooled molds from this line for release in their own markets under various toylines, and almost always as store exclusives. These Hasbro versions originally saw release as Walmart exclusives until 2009, when they were succeeded by Toys"R"Us.

Scale and rate of releases
The Masterpiece line started at a slow pace in 2003, with new molds being released every two years or so, and with redecos/retools being released in-between. The figures that were released back then were exclusively of the larger main characters, and scale wasn't very consistent due to price constraints and their large size, with the results being that figures of certain huge characters (such as Grimlock) were too short compared to other characters they were meant to tower over (such as Convoy).

With the release of a new tooling of Convoy in 2011, the line was rebooted, featuring a smaller, more consistent scale based on MP-09 Rodimus Convoy, and a significant increase in releases per year. Rather notably, Masterpieces of the smaller characters were introduced.

Sublines
Two sub-lines emerged, one designated as MP-B## and being based upon the Brave franchise (not covered in this wiki), and another with the MPM-# designation to represent live-action film series Transformers (see below).
*Bumblebee (Mini Vehicle, 1984~1986)
**Japanese ID number: 11, C-56

:Bumblebee's original toy, released in 1984 and in Japan in 1985, originally hails from the Microchange series, transforming into a "penny-racer"-proportioned Volkswagen Beetle. He was available through the first three years of the Transformers series, the entire duration of the Mini Vehicle assortment, the only 1984 Mini Vehicle to do so. (This is also why he has two ID numbers in Japan; in 1986, the line switched from a single-series number listing to splitting it up between "C" (Cybertron/Autobot) and "D" (Destron/Decepticon) groupings.)

:'Bee has a lot of minor variations. Throughout 1984 and 1985, Bumblebee was produced in both yellow and red (as was Cliffjumper), a move meant to "make the line look bigger" according to former Hasbro R&D Vice President George Dunsay. For his 1984 release, both color versions had an Autobot sigil on the roof/chest. In 1985, this was replaced by a rubsign. The rubsign remained on the 1986 release, though he was only released in yellow that year.

:Packaging-wise, there are several more variations. In 1984, the Mini Vehicles were packaged in vehicle mode. Come 1985, a picture of the toy in vehicle mode was added to the front of the card, and later the toys proper were packaged in robot mode. From this point on, the Mini Vehicles were also part of two different pack-in promotions; the Mini-Spies and iron-on reflective patches.

:Bumblebee was released in a wide variety of colors in markets south of the border. In Mexico, both a blue version and a recently-discovered white version with a red face were released.
*Volks (Robocar, 1985)

:Bumblebee was released in Brazil by Estrela in 1985 as the Robocar "Volks", initially available in two color schemes: his original yellow and black, and slick-looking silver and black with a gold face, both decorated with a new thin tech-detailing sticker on their chests. Later, Estrela released red and orange versions of Volks sporting the new "Optimus" faction insignia; given this new factional alignment, for the purposes of this wiki, the Optimus-aligned Volks is considered a separate character from Bumblebee. As such, whether the earlier yellow and silver Volks toys should be considered versions of Bumblebee or versions of this different character, could be debated endlessly.

*Volks (Robocar, 1985)

:The aforementioned red and orange versions of Volks were released in Argentina by Antex in 1985; the toys' cardback depicts the original silver version as well, but it is believed this was merely photography of an Estrela toy, and that the silver figure was never sold in Argentina. As these releases of Volks lack the "Optimus" faction sticker, instead bearing the earlier thin tech-detail decal, the question can be again raised over whether or not they represent the Optimus-aligned Volks, or the original Bumblebee. Whatever the case, these versions have much higher availability on the secondary market over their Estrela predecessors.

:The Throttlebot Goldbug was released in 1987, and like the other Throttlebots, he has a pull-back motor and a simple transformation. The vehicle mode was not designed to look like a penny racer, as the original toy was, so its variation on the Volkswagen Beetle was much more realistically-proportioned. Though the other Throttlebots seem to have always been intended to be new characters, Goldbug's head was based directly on that of Bumblebee's original toy. Bumblebee was the second Transformer to be given a second toy (as both Hot Rod and Rodimus Prime had been released the year previous).

:This toy was reissued in Europe in 1991 as part of the Classics reissues, along with the rest of the Throttlebots. The toy was retooled to remove the rubsign indent, the heat-sensitive decal proper replaced with a glossy-paper faction symbol.

:This toy could also represent the IDW Generation 1 continuity Goldbug, assuming he ever got an Earth mode.
:As part of the sixth year of Generation 1, Bumblebee was released as a "Classic Pretender", expanding the range of Pretenders toys. This version of Bumblebee is still a Volkswagen Beetle, once again more realistically proportioned, but now has what look like off-road tires. He came with a gun for his robot mode that could be mounted on his roof and another gun for his human shell. :Bumblebee was reissued as a keychain by Fun4All under license from Hasbro in the US in 2001. Along with having its rear bumper retooled to accommodate the chain, the keychain form lacked the "Dunlop" text on the tires. The toy also returned to its original sticker set-up, doing away with the rubsign and restored the Autobot symbol on his chest. Hasbro made the figure available again in 2007, this time under the "Heroes of Cybertron" banner.
: One of the earliest proposals in the Alternators/Binaltech line was for Bumblebee as a Volkswagen New Beetle, with Cliffjumper as the redeco. Unfortunately, VW evidently did not want to be associated with "war toys", and therefore the design never made it past the control drawing stage. Control drawings for both Bumblebee and Cliffjumper have been published in the Japanese The Transformers: Binaltech & TF Collection Complete Guide book. While the Movie and Animated Bumblebees are identical to their original, single carded releases, the Classics Bumblebee has been redecoed to more closely resemble his Movie and Animated counterparts, changing his white stripes to black, his gray/silver plastic to yellow (similarly to Henkei! Henkei! Bumble, see immediately below), and the clear parts from a very faint blue-ish tint to deeply saturated clear blue plastic. In addition, the shoulder straps are no longer painted yellow, instead showing the clear blue plastic they are cast in; the head is no longer be painted over in yellow, due to the change of the plastic color from gray to yellow; and the Wave Crusher replaces the white paint with black paint for the upper half and an unpainted yellow lower half, and the orange stripe with a yellow one.
:Part of the fifth wave of 2012-onwards Generations Deluxe Class toys, this Thrilling 30 Bumblebee is a new mold with a robot mode based on the character's body from IDW's The Transformers ongoing series; more specifically, it is the version used by Guido Guidi in issue 21. He comes with two "stinger blasters" which peg via 5mm post into his hands, forearms, and rear vehicle sides, and can also combine into a large weapon.

:The American release is packed in with a copy of "Spotlight: Bumblebee", with a cropped version of the Clayton Crain RI cover that is called out as a 'Hasbro Exclusive Cover'. In European and Canadian markets the figure is packed without the comic.

:For some reason, Hasbro's official stock photos provided to retailers which depict a (pre-)production sample, including a photo of the toy in packaging, feature a Bumblebee that lacks the painted stripes on the fake car hood on his robot mode chest. The same applied to the packaged sample on display at 2013. Fortunately, the final toy sports the stripes after all. For their own official website, Hasbro remedied this with a new set of stock photos that are more representative of the final product.
The two-tone figures were available in a variety of colour variations, with at least six different combinations for each of the four characters: Bumblebee is known to have been available in blue and red, red and black, green and black, blue and black, black and yellow, and black and red... yet not his traditional yellow and black!
:Bumblebee was among the many characters rendered by Takara as part of their series of 1.5" keshigomu figurines. Like all the Autobots in the series, Bumblebee was molded in soft red rubber, and featured a number sculpted into his back that was the sum total of his Tech Specs, for use in the various games that could be played with the figurines. Bumblebee was available as part of a nine-piece box set of Autobot figures, as a playing piece in the Defeat Dinosauruer Strategy Game and later, in a peach coloration randomly packed as part of various other box sets.
Bumblebee features articulation at the shoulders and waist, and came with a small catalog leaflet that could be folded up and attached to the lid/base to form a diorama background for added display value.
:Part of the second-series Transformers Attacktix Boosters, Bumblebee is a "Rare" 10-point "Specialist" that fires a standard missile. His Special Power, "Infiltrate" allows Bumblebee, after being defeated and turning up white, to be placed anywhere on the opponents starting line. He also has an always-active power that lets him take a free turn if he defeats another "Specialist"-ranked piece with a higher point value than his own. Holy schneikies, he's a monster on the board.
