After a crash-landing, Maximals and Predacons scan beast modes and start the Beast Wars.

Synopsis
After a battle above the "Planet Energon" between two warring factions, the Maximals and the Predacons, a pair of scout ships, one from each side, crash-land onto the planet's surface. The Maximal ship lands in the jungle area of the planet and six Transformers emerge from the wreckage. Desperate for energy, the Maximals discover energon nearby, which they notice has no effects on the planet's indigenous lifeforms. One Maximal scans the form of a cheetah and becomes "Cheetor".

Elsewhere, the crash-landed Predacons also scan beast forms and one takes the form of a tarantula, becoming "Tarantalus" sic.

Cheetor orders the other Maximals to find more animals to scan while he goes looking for the Predacons. As he runs off towards the Predacons' ship, Tarantalus lies hidden, waiting to launch a vengeful sneak attack on the hapless Cheetor.

Tarantalus leaps out and transforms, engaging Cheetor from above. However, Cheetor dodges the enemy's missile fire and retaliates, threatening to get "really nasty" with the spider-bot, which Tarantalus scoffs at.

Notes
Continuity notes
* This comic presents an alternate telling of the cartoon's early events, specifically from the first episode, though with several notable differences.
** Six Maximals, instead of four, are said to emerge from the wreckage of the Maximal ship.
** The ships are both described as "scout ships". Neither resembles either the Axalon or the Darksyde.
** The planet which the two ships crash is dubbed 'Planet Energon'.
** Cheetor also seems to be in command of the Maximals here (or at least high enough in rank to give out orders), as well as being a bit on the psychotic side, threatening to mutilate Tarantulas during their battle (see above quote).
* Energon is depicted not as a fuel which overcharges the Transformers, but as a Kryptonite-like substance ala Tox-En that is "lethal to Transformers, as it drains their power", though the scanning Beast Modes to protect oneself from energon's harmful effect is unchanged.
* This comic is the first piece of English-language media to depict a Transformer scanning and replicating an alternate mode under their own power. All past media required them to use external scanning and rebuilding mechanisms to achieve this, but here, Cheetor is shown using the method that will become standard in pretty much all future Transformers series: a scanning beam is projected by his optics, and his body then reconfigures itself into its new form. The first ever use of this method of scanning was seen in the first episode of the Beast Wars II anime, which debuted earlier in the very same month this comic was published.

Errors
* Tarantulas's name is consistently misspelt as "Tarantalus".
*Presumably, given who appears in the game, the "six Maximals" should be Optimus Primal, Cheetor, Rattrap, Dinobot, Rhinox and Airazor, but of the three shown (visible at the top of this article), only Cheetor is recognisable - the other two are generic blue and brown characters.
*Similarly, while Megatron, Scorponok, Tarantulas, Blackarachnia, Inferno and Terrorsaur appear in the game, neither of the background pair resemble their ostensible counterparts, although the blue one with a Hot Rod-style spoiler on the back does appear feminine.

Other notes
* This comic was produced as part of an advertising promotion of the PlayStation/PC Beast Wars video game in the UK and first saw print in April 1998 in several video game magazines cover-dated May 1998.
* Magazines this comic is known to have appeared in include Computer and Video Games #198, GamesMaster #68, PC Zone #63 and PlayStation Plus #32.
* Cheetor has quite a potty mouth in this comic.
They "transform" into a skeletal Tyrannosaurus to robot and back via disassembly and reassembly. Their dino-mode tail-tip becomes a serrated sword/cudgel in robot mode, or as shown in the box art, can peg into the back of their large shoulder.

:As a Fossilizer, Skelivore can split into weapons and armor compatible with the C.O.M.B.A.T. System for use by other War for Cybertron Trilogy figures (or any figure with 5 mm post compatibility), with two suggested configurations with Megatron shown in the set's instructions. Their robot-mode lower body and forearms combine into a double-clawed backpack, with the dino-mode tail and pelvic assembly forming a massive battle-axe, their dino-mode head and neck into an arm-mounted chompy-thing, their chestplate a shield, and their head, with the skull-mask down, becoming a hand-held mace. The second has their lower body still as a backpack, but now acting as twin cannons, with the dino-mode feet plugging into the bottom of a figure's feet to be... uh, stilts, we guess, keeping the arm-mounted shield-chestplate, and combining the dino-skull and tail-axe assembly into a monstrously huge battle sword.

:Due to having tiny feet and a very oddly proportioned body in robot mode, the figure can be difficult to pose without it falling over, not helped by the fact that their "ankle" tilts are actually positioned just below their knees.

:Much like previous Spoiler Packs, this set is in a windowless box designed to look like an ammo crate and features translatable Ancient Autobot inside the box. The lateral side of the package also features artwork of Megatron, reused from the Kingdom Wave 2 Golden Disk card. Compared to the previous Spoiler Pack, the packaging itself uses less cardboard and tape and has two Decepticon-themed quotes as opposed to one Autobot and one Decepticon. The "spoiler" text reads "WITH THE MATRIX IN HAND / I CAN WIN THE ALLSPARK / AND USE IT TO RESHAPE / CYBERTRON IN MY IMAGE" and "TAKE THE MATRIX / MEGATRON THEN THE / ALLSPARK MAY IT HAVE / MERCY ON YOU".

:As with other Netflix-series figures, this Spoiler Pack was exclusive to Walmart in Canada and the United States. This set was also available as a Kmart exclusive in Australia and was on Hasbro Pulse in the US and the UK in limited quantities.

Evac is a little new at this, but don't worry. He's had plenty of NEST training, and the last thing he's going to do now that he's finally getting his shot at the front lines is let something happen to his cargo, whether it's Autobot MechTech technology, a load of new NEST recruits, or even the last shard of the AllSpark! He's as quick and as nimble as they come, but his combat training means he can hold his own in a firefight, too.

In theory, anyway.

Fiction
Prepare for Battle prequel material
Evac was a junior member of the Knights of Cybertron, a group dedicated to protecting the AllSpark and preventing its misuse.

After the AllSpark was lost in space, the Knights were approached by Megatron, who offered to surrender in exchange for amnesty. The Knights reluctantly accepted, bringing all their members together for a meeting except Evac, who stayed behind. This proved to be a trap, and the Decepticons laid waste to the Knights, with Evac left as the group's lone survivor. Alpha Trion contacted Evac and sent him Optimus Prime's coordinates, hoping he would be able to lead Evac to the AllSpark.

Evac wandered the emptiness of space for centuries in search of Optimus and the AllSpark. Approaching Earth, he transmitted a signal in the hopes of finding any other Autobots, which was intercepted by both Soundwave and Optimus Prime. Optimus tracked Evac's signal and welcomed him onto his team. When Evac explained his history with the Knights, Optimus showed him the last remaining shard of the AllSpark. As Evac touched it, its energies rushed into Evac's systems, granting him both hyperspeed and a third mode, a courier that could safely transport the shard. Optimus granted him the title "Guardian of the AllSpark", ordering him to transport the shard between NEST locations alongside key NEST personnel. Optimus also told Evac not to share his origins with anyone, to prevent the Decepticons from finding out about him. Prepare for Battle (website)

Evac's first important mission on Earth began at a NEST base at Universal Studios, where he was assigned to transport you, your fellow trainees, and the last remaining shard of the AllSpark. Unfortunately, before he could get underway, Ravage broke into the base and attempted to steal the shard. Bumblebee was able to fight the Decepticon off and get the shard to Evac, who (along with his passengers) blasted free of the base and out into the city streets. With the help of Optimus Prime and Sideswipe, Evac survived a gauntlet of Decepticons including Grindor, Sideways, Bonecrusher and even the gargantuan Devastator.

Unfortunately, his escape from Devastator left him in the clutches of Starscream. Escaping with the aid of NEST helicopters, Evac attempted to help Optimus defeat Megatron high atop a building, but the two were ultimately forced to sacrifice the AllSpark shard to win, with Evac driving it into his enemy's chest and sending his lifeless body to the streets below. Evac fell as well but was saved by Bumblebee. He was then congratulated by Optimus and returned to NEST, passing under Megatron's body smashed through the pavement, and told the recruits they could ride with him anytime. Transformers: The Ride – 3D
*Kreon 4-Pack (2014)
**Set number: A9370
**Kreons: Bumblebee, Evac, Megatron, Optimus Prime
**Accessories: 2 clip-on turbines

:The Kreon version of Evac was part of a Universal Studios theme park exclusive box set of Transformers characters who actually physically appeared in the park. He uses the Vehicon helmet, only without the metal stripe on the top. The packaging marks him as an "exclusive figure", which is true, but technically all of the figures in the set are exclusives since these decos are not available in any other set. But this is the only set where you can get an Evac Kreon of any kind, whereas sets with some version of Optimus, Megatron and/or Bumblebee are not exactly hard to come by. After several years of only being available at the park proper, the 4-pack was eventually added to Universal's online store.

: In 2015, a new run of the set was produced, this time using the new-mold 2015-style Kreon bodies (and a logo-plate rather than the 2x4 logo brick). Evac was further changed from the original by having his clip-on turbines/cannons done up with silver chrome rather than metallic plastic. This set would later see slight production changes; all of the figures' tampographs have gone back to thicker lines and being a bit sloppier, while Evac's medium-gray plastics have been lightened and lost much of their pearlescent sheen.

: In mid-2020, the set was revamped again, now removing Evac and replacing him with the N.E.S.T. Sentry. As of this writing, the Evac version of the set is still available via Universal's online store.
Notes
* Evac's vehicle mode is the car people sit in for the Transformers 3D ride, though the toys add a canopy. It is essentially the same vehicle, albeit reskinned, used in the similar Spider-Man ride also at Universal Studios.
* Evac's design is a modified version of Roadbuster, with a new head (resembling Sideswipe) and altered vehicle kibble.
* His Cyberverse Legion Class toy (the version in Universal Studios packaging) features different package art compared to his Deluxe Class toy, as well as a different set of Tech Specs.
* Many fans have mistaken a grey primer prototype image of a "weapon" on the roof of Evac's Deluxe Class vehicle mode for what it actually is: the car with both it's doors up. Despite having a 5mm port for a weapon on the roof, Evac has never been seen with one, even in all of his leaked prototype images.
* Though the Knights of Cybertron were said to be branded with glyphs, Evac himself doesn't show any sign of them.
* In early 2020, nearly all merchandise of Evac was removed from Universal's gift shops and online store, with notably only the Kreon 4-Pack still available online... at least until they run out of it and replace it with the N.E.S.T. Sentry version of the 4-pack. Why this happened is unknown, as Evac is still the central character of The Ride.
Evac
:Evac is an Autobot from the Transformers: The Ride – 3D portion of the live-action film continuity family.

Transformers: The Ride – 3D
Dustin James Leighton (English)
