Allspark
:The AllSpark is an artifact from the Transformers Animated continuity

A device of unknown origin and unimaginable power, the AllSpark can create life itself and was the source of the Transformer race. For millions of years, Autobots and Decepticons waged the Great War over controlling it, with the Autobots only managing to defeat the Decepticons after they sent the AllSpark through a space bridge portal, keeping it safely out of evil hands and effectively removing the wild card from remaining battles. If wielded by Decepticons, it would be a weapon of destruction like no other. In other words, same thing as the movie.

It seems to have a will of its own, seeking out qualified bearers and uniting even unlikely allies into a team.

It can also unfold really purdy.

Fiction
Animated cartoon
Optimus Prime and his crew of Autobots were repairing a space bridge when it activated on them. Once Prime shut down the bridge, they stumbled across the AllSpark, hidden away inside a rock, having apparently emerged while the bridge was active. Ratchet told them of its history and significance in the Great War, believing that the AllSpark had now found them, rather than the other way around. Almost immediately, the Decepticon leader Megatron and his crew showed up in their warship, tracking the AllSpark's energy readings. Megatron attacked the fleeing Teletran-1 to claim the AllSpark himself, but his attempt was sabotaged by a bomb placed on him by his lieutenant, Starscream. The explosion sent the Autobots' ship careening out of control until the AllSpark activated the space bridge, which itself exploded after the ship went through.

The ship emerged in low orbit over Earth and soon crash-landed in Lake Erie, not far from Detroit. Fifty years later, the Autobots came out of emergency stasis and ventured into the city to save people from a rampaging monster. Bumblebee quickly befriended a young girl named Sari Sumdac, who convinced him to take her aboard the Autobots' ship when his teammate Prowl was badly injured. While aboard, Sari came in contact with the AllSpark, which decided for some reason to open up to her—in more ways than one. It reconfigured her security keycard into a powerful tool. With this new Key, Sari could revive Autobots, activate machinery, screw up robots, and much more.

For a time, the Autobots were celebrated as Detroit's newest superheroes, but then Starscream tracked them down. He took hostages and demanded the AllSpark in exchange for their return. With Sari's help, the hostages were freed, but Starscream still managed to get hold of the AllSpark, and he quickly started obliterating sections of Detroit with it. Prime attempted to wrestle the AllSpark away from him, but again it opened, this time unleashing a powerful surge of energy that blasted away Starscream to parts unknown. Prime was left dangling from a tremendous height and quickly fell. He did not survive the impact, but in desperation, Sari used the reconfigured AllSpark Key on him. The AllSpark intervened directly this time, and Prime's spark was restored online. Transform and Roll Out!

After this, the AllSpark remained on board the Autobots' at the bottom of Lake Erie for some time. Lost and Found (episode)

The day of reckoning the Autobots had long feared came to pass when Megatron was restored and went to claim the AllSpark once again. Inserting the AllSpark into his chest, he planned to use it as a weapon to destroy Earth and conquer Cybertron. However, Optimus Prime used the AllSpark Key to crack the AllSpark. In the resulting energy surge, the AllSpark was destroyed and its energy dispersed. With its destruction, the Key became the most powerful Cybertronian artifact on the planet Earth, if not in the universe. Megatron Rising - Part 2

AllSpark Fragments
Crystalline shards of the AllSpark landed all throughout the greater Detroit area and were able to endow life into any machine with sufficient cybernetic technology. The first one discovered was in one of Isaac Sumdac's robots while he was working on Megatron's space bridge. It went haywire, and the Decepticons thought it was Sumdac, so Megatron blasted it and found the fragment in what was left of its arm. Megatron theorized that the shards could have spread across the entire world. A Sumdac Systems assembly line had empowered some Security Drones, which showed hostility to everything around them until they were either destroyed or had the AllSpark shards removed from them. Optimus's Autobots and the Elite Guard put a stop to this and extracted the AllSpark fragment from the controls. The Elite Guard

AllSpark shards are sufficiently powerful enough to sustain Transformer life even after their sparks have been extinguished, as Starscream discovered. He later found an AllSpark shard in a truck and planted it on a train to lure out Megatron. Mission Accomplished

The fifth AllSpark fragment gave life to Wreck-Gar. Garbage In, Garbage Out

The sixth AllSpark fragment was found in Master Disaster's remote. This allowed him to control machines and fix the results of his underground street races. Velocity

The seventh and eighth AllSpark fragments turned two construction vehicles into the Constructicons Scrapper and Mixmaster. Rise of the Constructicons

The ninth AllSpark fragment was in Slo-Mo's timepiece. This was able to slow down time around whatever electronic device on which it was used. It also was used to restore Nanosec to his rightful age. SUV: Society of Ultimate Villainy

Many of the fragments that the Autobots had were used to help Omega Supreme reboot and kick some Decepticon tail. A Bridge Too Close, Part II

One fragment, however, managed to get back into their custody following this, and was a contributing factor in the creation of Dirt Boss.Three's a Crowd

Prowl later used his Processor-over-matter technique to materialize an AllSpark piece. Megatron also made use of AllSpark fragments salvaged from Omega Supreme in order to power his three darker versions of Omega. Endgame, Part I

Reformation
When the former Lugnut Supremes threatened to explode and wipe out all of Detroit (as well as a sizeable amount of the surrounding area), Optimus came to the conclusion that the only thing that could save the city and its inhabitants was the power of the AllSpark, except that it was dispersed throughout all of Detroit. However Prowl and Jazz were able to use their Processor-over-matter technique to bring together as many of the scattered fragments as possible, including the one lodged in Starscream's forehead. Unfortunately, not enough fragments were available so Prowl had to sacrifice his own Spark to complete the AllSpark and create a shield to contain the Starscream Supreme's explosion. The completed Allspark was put in an interesting-looking container and hung on a chain around Prime's neck when the Autobots went back to Cybertron. Endgame, Part II

Notes
* The AllSpark's powers, enigmatic origin, and storyline role are very similar to the synonymous device from the live-action movie. The look of the outer container, however, is more of an homage to the Matrix of Leadership (i.e. an orange-ish container with bracketed handles and a window in front that opens outward to reveal a glowing, blue, spherical crystal suffused with blue energy). However, the AllSpark here is angular and cubic rather than curved and spheroid like the Matrix, basically hybridizing the looks of the movie and Generation 1 devices. Unlike its Movie counterpart, it does not kill a Transformer that merges the power source, the inner crystal, with his/her Spark, but grants him/her great power as long as the crystal remains intact, a very similar effect to that of the Heart of Cybertron.

* At 2008, Animated creative team Marty Isenberg, Matt Youngberg, and Derrick Wyatt stated that they had no intention of providing an in-story explanation of the AllSpark, because to do so would run the risk of making the artifact less interesting, or being so bizarre that it shattered the audience's willing suspension of disbelief, or being so wildly convoluted that explaining it all would get in the way of telling the actual story, or all of the above. They specifically cited the Star Wars prequel trilogy's "midichlorian" explanation of the Force as something that convinced them it was better to let the AllSpark remain a mystery.
Transformers: War for Cybertron is a video game developed by High Moon Studios and published by Activision, set before the Transformers take their war to Earth. Hasbro intends it to act as a foundation for Transformers franchise storylines for years to come, and so they've been giving a lot of input and stressing character development. The book Exodus: The Official History of the War for Cybertron serves as a storyline lead-in to the events of the game, which itself in turn sets the stage for the upcoming cartoon series Transformers: Prime.fact

Unlike previous Transformers video games which feature distinctly separate campaigns for the Autobots and the Decepticons (traditionally depicting the playable faction utterly defeating the other), War for Cybertron will feature a single, linear storyline; the Decepticon campaign occurs chronologically before the Autobot campaign, but fans can play through them in whichever order they prefer.

The game itself will be an over-the-shoulder third-person shooter in which the player can choose his character from a small roster of either Autobots or Decepticons. The game has a street date of June 22, 2010, for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Nintendo Wii (as Transformers: Cybertron Adventures), Nintendo DS, and PC; however, the console versions were released at Sears stores on June 17th.
Synopsis
It is the waning days of the Great War on Cybertron before the Transformers come to Earth. Megatron, genuinely believing a caste system will bring Cybertron back to its Golden Age, is researching a dangerous power source known as Dark Energon to fuel his conquest of the planet. Megatron discovers that the factory that produces Dark Energon is guarded by a neutral army led by Starscream, and he leads an attack on the station. After his ship crashes into the hull of the station, Megatron, Brawl and Barricade defeat Starscream's army and harness the power of the Dark Energon. Cornered, Starscream tells Megatron that he's the only one who knows how to make more of the energon and that he will help the Decepticon leader if Megatron takes him into his army. Megatron reluctantly agrees to this and sends Starscream, Thundercracker, and Skywarp to reactivate the Energon Bridge that will produce new Dark Energon. They succeed, and Megatron decides to use his new-found power to attack and destroy the Autobot city of Iacon. While Starscream and Brawl lead the main attack on the city, Megatron takes Soundwave and Breakdown on a flanking attack to recover the Omega Key, which will allow him to access the core of the planet. Arriving at the key's holding place, the Decepticons learn that the Autobot leader Zeta Prime has taken it to keep it safe. The team regroup with Brawl and Starscream, and use Dark Energon bombers to eliminate the remaining Autobots before storming the building in which Zeta Prime is waiting. Megatron defeats the Autobot leader, stealing the Omega Key and punching a hole in his chest. Zeta reveals that the key Megatron has just stolen only activates the real Omega Key, and that soon it will find him. Suddenly a huge ship awakens and takes off.

An unknown amount of time later, Megatron is commanding his ship in search of the "Omega Key". The ship is suddenly attacked by Omega Supreme, who shoots them out of the sky, causing them to crash-land in Iacon. Megatron, Soundwave and Breakdown began a desperate retreat from Omega Supreme's attack and take cover in a large tower. Once inside, the group hear Starscream announce that Megatron is dead and that he is taking command of the Decepticons. Enraged but unable to make any outside contact, Megatron leads his forces through the city, dodging attacks from Omega Supreme while searching for a way to fight him. Soundwave discovers that they can use some of the Autobot's anti-air and anti-infantry turrets on a tower roof against the massive Autobot. Along the way, the group makes contact with Starscream and corrects his mistake, using him to distract Omega Supreme. Once they reached the turrets, the group manages to shoot down Omega Supreme, causing him to crash to the ground below. The Decepticons go down to recover his body, but Omega Supreme transforms into robot mode, firing missiles and lasers. Megatron manages to corrupt Omega with Dark Energon, using him to reach and corrupt the core of Cybertron with Dark Energon.

Meanwhile, recovering from the attack on Iacon, the young Autobot messenger Bumblebee is sent to tell the soldier Optimus that Zeta Prime is dead. Optimus decides to take temporary control of the Autobots, taking Bumblebee and his friend Ratchet on a counterattack to push out Decepticon forces. They manage to reactivate the planetary guns, clearing the skies over Iacon, and proceed to aid Ironhide in reclaiming the Decagon, just barely missing Soundwave on the way. Entering the Decagon, Optimus receives a message from Zeta Prime, revealing that he is not yet dead but is being held in a prison in Kaon. Optimus, Bumblebee and Sideswipe allow themselves to be captured by the Decepticons and enter the prison. The three are just barely saved from a firing squad by Air Raid, but as they escape into the tunnels below, Air Raid is captured. The three Autobots sneak through the prison, rescuing Air Raid and releasing all the Autobot prisoners (including Arcee). Using the chaos as a distraction, the trio sneak to the high security bunker Zeta Prime is being held. When the Autobots try to save them, Soundwave attacks, sending out Frenzy, Rumble, and Laserbeak. The Autobots defeat them, but Soundwave manages to retreat. When Optimus tries to rescue Zeta, the Prime tells him that he is already dead and collapses. Optimus returns the body to the council, who tell Optimus that he must accept that he is a Prime and take up his role as leader. Thus, he becomes Optimus Prime. However, he is then dispatched into the very core of Cybertron with Ironhide and Warpath to cure the currently infected core. Thanks to the help of some space slugs, Prime, Warpath, and Ironhide defeat a corrupted space slug and reach the core. However the core tells Optimus that, in order to repair itself, it will have to shut down for millions of years, forcing Optimus and the Autobots to evacuate Cybertron. Before the core shuts down, it gives Optimus the Matrix of Leadership.

Returning to Iacon, Optimus Prime orders the launching of a full-scale evacuation of Cybertron's surface, however as the transports leave the atmosphere, Megatron begins shooting them down with his massive orbital space station. Optimus relizes the need to shut down the station, and sends Silverbolt, Air Raid, and Jetfire to shut it down from the inside out. The team went flying into the station and blow up the power core, but Megatron taunts them as he activates a back-up generator. Then the station itself begins to mock them. Relizing the station is a Cybertronian, the team flies to find it's conversion cog to force it into it's robot mode before it can finish leveling Iacon, and Optimus with it. Succeding, the Autobots race out of the quickly transforming space station, Trypticon. The Autobots shoot out the massive Decepticon's jetpack, causing it to hurtle towards the surface of the planet. Trypticon still functioned however, and Optimus Prime, Bumblebee and Ironhide were forced to engage the damaged Decepticon. After a difficult battle, Optimus uses his axe to knock Trypticon off-balance, sending it plummiting into the liquid below. As the other transports escape the planet's dying surface Optimus shows his team their new ship - an Ark that will allow them to take a piece of Cybertron with them, wherever their adventures may take them...

The Decepticon campaign includes a boss battle with Omega Supreme and the Autobot campaign includes defending Iacon. Trypticon appears in the IGN trailer, but he's, uh, probably not playable. ==Features==
* Campaigns will be co-op online for the first time in a Transformers game.
* All playable characters have two special abilities, such as absorbing health from enemies or marking targets.
* The game will run on the Unreal engine.
* High Moon is prepared to "support the game after release," meaning either patches or downloadable content.
* Online Multiplayer is being developed for the game.
* All environments, including cover, can be destroyed.
* Characters transform at any time with an easy and quick tap of the Left Analog stick. There is no "cool down" so players can transform as often and as freely as they wish.
* The ability to create your own Transformers character for multiplayer.

Production
As an early marketing campaign, the game's website included the feature "Operation Transmission Recovery": using transmission and coordinate dials, you could pick up "transmissions" from Cybertron (or "video clips" to you and me).

The art and design team did intense research (i.e. watched the original cartoon, looked at comics, and watched "typical sci-fi cool stuff" like Blade Runner) to work out the aesthetic of Cybertron; lead artist Ivan Power remarked that the original cartoon was the main inspiration, and that Cybertron wasn't shown there so they had to rewatch the same few clips "over and over". While many of the city designs are elaborate and shiny, Decepticon Kaon was deliberately designed to be sharp-edged, rusting, and slapped together to show the Decepticons weren't interested in building a functioning society.

Transformer references
* A variety of callbacks to The Transformers: The Movie:
** Ironhide greets the space slug with the Universal greeting. Warpath had no idea what it was.
** In the Kaon prison an Autobot is pronounced guilty and pushed off a gantry into a pit. He responds with "Spare me this mockery of justice!", the same quote from when the Quintessons sentenced Kranix the Lithone to Sharkticons.
** Rumble repeats another line from the movie: ""First we crack the shell, then we crack the nuts inside!"
** When Starscream declares himself as Decepticon leader, Megatron retorts that "[he] still function[s]."
* The Punch of Kill Everything is a multiplayer Leader Class ability and a Soldier class upgrade.
* When Skywarp calls Thundercracker ugly he replies that they look the same. Hmmm.
* Stan Bush sings a new Transformers song for the credits, and the special thanks describe the families that were involved "rock like Stan Bush".
* Air Raid pokes fun at Silverbolt's fear of heights.
* The in-game menu for stat tracking and leaderboards is called Teletraan 1
* When Ironhide asks Optimus how he knows Megatron, Optimus replies that it is a story for another time.
*Pretty much all the Achievement/Trophy names are references to other parts of Transformers history, mostly G1.
** The ones for completing the campaign chapters include Dark Awakening, Starscream's Brigade, A Prime Problem, The Last Prime, You Got The Touch, The War Within, and Till All Are One.
** Gameplay names include Thief in the Night, Fire in the Sky, Chaos Bringer, Motormaster!, Devastator!, Brute-a-kiss!, Slugfest, Powerglide Performer, First we crack the shell..., Blast-a-rachnia and Ramhorn.

Operation Transmission Recovery
As an early marketing campaign, the game's website included the feature "Operation Transmission Recovery": using transmission and coordinate dials, you could pick up "transmissions" from Cybertron (or "video clips/images" to you and me).

There are two dials, blue (outer) and yellow (inner). Using your mouse, you can drag the dial to set coordinates. The blue dial is set by aligning it to marks on the outer circle. When aligned, it becomes a blue ring. After that, the yellow dial is set so that signal strength is full, as indicated by a meter on the right. Once a transmission is unlocked its symbol lights up and the "Total Recovered" amount increases a little bit. When you reach 100%, it tells you how many hours remain until next batch.

As of January 12, 2010, the following transmissions (Batch 9), almost all of which are part of the second trailer (link below), were available:
Demo
On June 10, 2010, a demo for the game was released on Xbox Live Marketplace. The demo is a multiplayer only demo, and only two of the four announced classes, Soldier and Scout, are playable in the demo. Only one "Create a Character" slot is open for each class, but customization for chassis is not available yet. Players can only level up to Level 3 in each class. The only map available is "Molten", and the two gametypes available are Team Deathmatch and Conquest.

Toy tie-ins
Hasbro has confirmed that several toys will be made to tie into the promotion of the video game. These include figures of Bumblebee, Optimus Prime, Megatron and Soundwave. At Toy Fair 2010, they were confirmed to be part of the Generations toyline.
Comic adaptation
IDW Publishing is bringing out a comic based on the game. News of this first got leaked when Australian website JB Hi-Fi offered a free copy of issue 1 if you pre-ordered the game from them. Later, it was available for those that purchased either the PS3 or Xbox versions of the game at Sears or Kmart in America. The story is a partial adaptation of the Exodus book.

The artist to the cover is revealed to be Marcelo Matere, who updated his DeviantArt gallery with the inked version, with Priscilla Tramontano as colorist. Alex Irvine and Don Figueroa are writing and drawing, respectively.
:Dirge is a Decepticon from the Generation 1 continuity family.

Dirge is a master of using fear as a weapon. Mournful, morose, and silent, his behavior gives even close comrades like Ramjet the creeps. Dirge actively cultivates this atmosphere; his engines are even tuned to generate fear in all who hear them. Few realize, however, that this need to instill fear is part of an overwhelming need for control over his own situation. Should things spiral out of control, Dirge falls victim to paralyzing fear himself and his usefulness as a warrior vanishes.

True to his name, he tends to die a lot.
Generation 1 cartoon
:Voice actor: Bud Davis (English), Keiichi Nanba (Japanese)

Dirge appeared without explanation on Earth under Megatron's command a year or two after the Ark-borne Transformers awoke. His first notable activity was joining in a raid on Dinobot Island, where he was eventually chewed on and thrown bodily by a time-lost Tyrannosaurus rex. Dinobot Island, Part 2

Dirge served as part of Megatron's personal guard when the Decepticons confronted the Constructicons about their dubious loyalties. The Master Builders He was also briefly involved in an aborted air strike to seize the Negavator, and was present for the next raid on the Negavator's holding pen. Once Red Alert rigged the Negavator to explode, however, Dirge led his fellow Seekers in retreat, against Megatron's direct orders. Guess he didn't feel like dying that day. Auto Berserk

When a new solar energy facility opened up in Central City, Starscream led Dirge, Ramjet and Thrust to steal its power. The facility proved to be a trap, however, set by Shawn Berger to elevate himself in the public eye by taking down the Decepticons with his private militia. Berger's operatives failed, but the Autobots soon arrived to engage the Decepticons as well. Tracks took to the air and zapped Dirge with his blackout beam. Luckily for Dirge, Ramjet managed to pull off a loopity-loop and ram the flying Autobot into the ground. Megatron then "requested" the pleasure of Shawn Berger's presence, not to punish him, but to play a subtler game. He attempted to convince the industrialist that the Decepticons were good, and the Autobots evil. He had Dirge escort Berger home so that the human could think about his proposal of alliance against the "Evil Autobots". Dirge was also one of the key players in Megatron's staged videos to tarnish the Autobots' reputation. Megatron's Master Plan, Part 1 Later, after the Autobots were successfully villified in the public eye and exiled to deep space, the Seekers turned on the people of Central City, opening fire in the middle of the streets. Although Dirge and the Seekers fared well against an attack by the Air Force, the eventual return of the Autobots proved to be more than the Decepticons could handle. Megatron's Master Plan, Part 2

When the Decepticons uncovered a pool of electrum, a strange element that rendered them totally invincible to harm, they thoroughly enjoyed taunting the Autobots with their superiority. Dirge, unfortunately, drew the short straw and was left to guard the pool with Long Haul, right up until the Constructicon abandoned him to go fight the battle as well. Dirge was in the middle of...*ahem* exhorted Long Haul's virtues when Beachcomber and Seaspray jumped him from behind, giving the Autobots a chance to use the electrum pool as well. The supply was quickly exhausted with both armies using it, however, reducing the war back to stage one. The Golden Lagoon Dirge was also part of Megatron's team working with the Insecticons, producing energon cubes from the insects' feasting. They were eventually defeated by the Autobots and a grove of robotic space plants called Morphobots. Quest for Survival

Later on, Dirge, Ramjet and Astrotrain came to Monacus to look after Megatron's interests in Sheol, and his less than reputable partner, Lord Gyconi. They were putting the squeeze on Gyconi when a program caught Dirge's optic, inviting one-and-all to see the Autobots in pit battle against Gyconi's animaliens. They decided to take in a show while on Monacus, but quickly realized what was going on when Smokescreen flooded the arena with smoke to stop the games and save his friends. Dirge and Ramjet set off after the Autobot in jet mode, and very nearly destroyed him before the bounty hunting Autobot named Devcon stepped in to blast them out of the air. There's nothing a Decepticon fears more than a fair fight, and the two Seekers skidadled as soon as they were able to get back in the sky. They retreated back to Astrotrain with their share of Gyconi's energon, and eventually fled the planet, with Devcon chasing their smoke trail. The Gambler

On another occasion, Dirge accompanied Megatron to help their ally Deceptitran against the Tlalakan rebels. After the Decepticons captured Bumblebee (who was aiding the rebels), Dirge was eager to try out his mind probe on the little Autobot, but was interrupted by a rebel attack before he could really get into it. Sea Change

When the Triple Changers temporarily disposed of Megatron and Starscream, Decepticon leadership became a free-for-all. Instead of chosing sides like the Constructicons, Ramjet and the Seekers were mostly content just to watch the hilarity ensue, like Blitzwing's football antics and Astrotrain's army of idiot trains. He even actually avoided death for a change and was seen successfully escaping from a train tunnel flooded by Astrotrain's Astroforce. That must have made his day.Triple Takeover

Megatron said Dirge and the other two Coneheads were "supposed to be the most powerful jets in the galaxy." The Girl Who Loved Powerglide But if Megatron was serious, then they certainly didn't do much to live up to that reputation. They were loyal enough troopers, participating in all the usual Decepticon mischief, but not much more than that. Dirge was once ordered to transport an unknown invention stolen from Wheeljack's lab on Cybertron to their home base, and ended up crashing in a swamp and temporarily deactivating due to its weight, prompting the other coneheads to save him. Hoist Goes Hollywood In fact, the general incompetence of Dirge and the Seekers in the air was one of the reasons Megatron chose to try fighting the Autobots on the roads with the Stunticons. The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 1

Dirge and Ramjet were briefly seen using Megatron's Lightning Bug in defense of the Decepticons' undersea base. Cosmic Rust (episode) The two were later captured by Starscream and the renegade Combaticons, and pilfered for their energy absorbers. Starscream's Brigade Still, Dirge was repaired rather quickly, and was seen helping Megatron and the Insecticons in another joint scheme soon thereafter. He and Ramjet were commissioned to find the Insecticons when Shrapnel stole a vital part of the Space Bridge machinery. The Revenge of Bruticus During a Decepticon mission in the Middle East, Dirge inexplicably showed up with the Combaticons just long enough to get shot down by the Autobots. Aerial Assault

Dirge's first apparent death was during Unicron's attack on Cybertron in 2005. All three coneheads (or Seekers who looked like them) were seen flying into Unicron's mouth and exploding. The Transformers: The Movie However, Dirge soon turned up again in Carbombya, hiding with Ramjet amongst President Fakkadi's air force. Fakkadi denied their presence to the Autobots, but Outback psyched the two Decepticons out by walking around the airfield with what he claimed was a "Decepticon detector." When the coneheads tried to escape, Outback used a smoke grenade to make them crash, then tore the location of Chaar out of them with his steely gaze. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 1

The two hapless Decepticons somehow escaped Autobot captivity, though. Five Faces of Darkness, Part 3 They later participated in a full-scale assault on Cybertron and chose to strafe Ultra Magnus—who dispatched them both with well-timed punches that sent them careening into buildings. They exploded quite utterly (even Ramjet, who you'd think would be used to it). Five Faces of Darkness, Part 5

And yet they later appeared again on Chaar, failing to defend Trypticon against the ghost of Starscream. In fact, Galvatron tried to execute the coneheads and the Battlechargers for their inability to stop the wraith. But they were saved when Starscream possessed Trypticon himself and launched into space, Dirge and the others onboard. When they saw that Starscream was using Trypticon to connect Unicron's head to Cybertron, they sabotaged the dinosaur from within. Ghost in the Machine
noteukonly
Dirge was on Cybertron serving under Straxus when contact was first made with the long-lost Earthbound Decepticons. The Smelting Pool! He was one of the Decepticons' greatest killers, with Macabre desperately wanting acknowledgement from him. After Shrapnel received some information about a major meeting of the Autobot resistance chiefs, Dirge led his fellow elite killers to the meeting, hoping to capture the infamous Emirate Xaaron and siphon some information from his old cranial cavity. Mere yards from their goal, however, the Decepticons were halted by a communique from Megatron, demanding they return to Polyhex at once and ready the Insecticons for an Earth-bound mission. Pissed about missing their chance, but not foolish enough to disobey Megatron, Dirge turned the troops around, little realizing how close they came to being ambushed by the Wreckers. Target: 2006

Dirge, his fellow "coneheads", and the Insecticons dutifully travelled to Earth via the space bridge. Megatron had instructed that Seekers be altered to resemble "Terran craft". Their mission was to defend a giant drill that would bore through Hoover Dam and siphon the Colorado River through the space bridge to the waterless Cybertron, where Decepticon turbines would generate "enough energy to power Cybertron for years." But just as the drill began its work, the Aerialbots intervened. Dirge found his fear-inducing ability was particularly effective against the acrophobic Silverbolt, but the other Decepticons fared poorly enough that a retreat was eventually called. Aerialbots over America!

When the Decepticons later allied with Cobra, Dirge was assigned to be an emissary among the humans. This would be unfortunate for the luckless Seeker. When Serpentor realized the Decepticons were going to destroy the Earth, he needed a token of conciliation to show the Autobots. So in the middle of a battle against Omega Supreme, Serpentor goaded Dirge into attacking the giant with everything he had. Serpentor then pressed a button in the cockpit of his own jet, "jamming" Dirge's "frequencies," which caused the Seeker's weapons to lock up and explode when he tried to fire.

The explosion tore Dirge apart, and he wouldn't be seen again for years. Ashes, Ashes...
Earthforce
earthforcefiction
With Soundwave in command, Dirge joined a massive Decepticon offensive against the Autobot Earthbase. Their goal was to kill some Autobots while also distracting them as Starscream looted a human oil tanker in the Gulf of Mexico. Both goals proved fruitless, and the Decepticons were driven off. Divide and Conquer!

While the war seemingly ended with Bludgeon's defeat at Klo, Megatron was quietly gathering the remains of forgotten Earthbound casualties and rebuilding them. Dirge was among his resurrections, but the Seeker chose to follow the exiled Bludgeon instead. This would prove an unfortunate choice, as Dirge soon ended up in the Cerebro-shelled thrall of Bug Bite.

When Bug Bite decided to try and subvert Megatron himself, Dirge was on the team accompanying him to Earth. As Bug Bite and Megatron confronted each other, the Autobots ambushed them, freeing many of Bug Bite's troops with a cerebro-shell jammer. It's unclear whether Dirge's shell was disabled, but the point is somewhat moot; Grimlock shot him in the chest, leaving him lying on the floor with extinguished optics. Games of Deception
Dirge was eventually revived and compelled into serving Megatron again. He attacked a human city on Earth with his old wingmen, Ramjet and Thrust. At Fight's End
In the end, Prime's sacrifice spurred the Autobots to fight on to victory!

Dirge was the most overpowering Decepticon present, but he could be defeated by a surprise attack. Alternately, if both Ramjet and Thrust were defeated, Dirge would retreat. Desert Flight
Dirge participated in Shockwave's offensive against Iacon shortly after Optronix took the Matrix. During the Dark Ages, he joined up with Starscream's Predacon faction and attempted to disrupt the peace treaty at Tyger Pax... only to have the combined forces of the Autobots, Decepticons, and Ultracons brought against him. Guess death comes to he who has no common sense.

After the Great Shutdown was over, Dirge became one of Shockwave's top agents and traveled to Earth to help collect the former crews of the Ark and Nemesis. Back on Cybertron, he helped defend Shockwave's empire when the Autobots finally rose up against him, but he was defeated along with the rest of the Decepticons. Somehow he escaped detention and joined up with Shockwave and his remaining flunkies in the Wastelands, hidden in an underground bunker while planning their next move. When Megatron arrived with his new Predacons, though, Dirge quickly assessed his priorities and agreed to serve under the old Decepticon commander for the duration. The Route of All Evil
: Dirge is part of the Classics-themed 2007 box set, along with Bugbite, Dreadwind, Thrust and Thundercracker. He is a redeco of the Classics Ramjet toy, transforming into a made up fighter based upon the F-15. He also comes with two spring-loaded missile launchers that can mount on his biceps, under his wings, or be used as hand-held weapons.

:As with most Classics toys, he features a heat-sensitive rubsign.

: There were 1500 Timelines Dirge figures produced.
**Accessories: Launcher, missile, Cyber Key

:A Target-exclusive redeco of Galaxy Force Starscream, Dirge transforms into a Cybertronic starfighter. In both modes, plugging a Cyber Planet Key into his back end flips out a spring-loaded blade from each arm. His spring-loaded missile launcher can be used as either a hand-held weapon, or mounted under his jet-mode nosecone.

:He is packed with Roadbuster (a redeco of the Deluxe-class Cybertron Cybertron Defense Hot Shot) and a reprint of "Target: 2006" parts 5 & 6 (although the Canadian version had no comic included). Initial releases of the set have the wrong comic, using the The War Within: The Dark Ages issue "Escalation" meant for the Springer/Ratbat two-pack instead.

:His dark purple Cyber Planet Key features a movie-style Decepticon sigil.

:This mold was also used for the 2008-exclusive Shattered Glass Starscream.

:Gentei! Gentei! Dirge is a Toy Hobby Market exclusive retool of Classics Ramjet. Unlike his 2007 Timelines version, he has newly tooled wings based upon the wings from his original toy, uses the smaller null-ray missiles from Starscream, and, unusually for Henkei, features an all-new, colorful Hasbro Classics-style deco for his new wings. Like all Henkei toys, he features vacuum metallized parts, specifically the barrels of his missile launchers, his engine nozzles and his cockpit interior.

: Dirge was available for pre-order from November 13th through December 10th 2008, and shipped in late March of 2009.
Super Collection Figure
*Dirge (2002)

: A retool of the Super Collection Figure Starscream mold, Dirge is a three-inch tall non-transforming figure. He was released as a chase figure in the sixth wave of the line.

: This mold was further retooled into Ramjet and Thrust.

Heroes of Cybertron
*Dirge (2003)

: Heroes of Cybertron Dirge is redeco of Super Collection Figure Dirge, cast in translucent red plastic and painted over to allow for a light-piping gimmick. His cone was also rounded off for safety reasons. The Hasbro release of Dirge was much easier to find than his Japanese counterpart, as he was a normal release in wave four, and packed on a blister card rather than in a blindpacked box.

: Dirge came with the torso to the Fortress Maximus Build-A-Figure.

MyClone
*Dirge (MyClone, 2003)

: Dirge was a chase figure in the third wave of MyClone figures. He's a cute, super-deformed figure who can be disassembled to switch his components with other MyClones. Dirge shares many, but not all, of his component molds with MyClone Ramjet and Thrust.

Transformers - Mini Bust
* Dirge (Diamond Select, 2008)

: Dirge was released by Diamond Select Toys in 2008 and exclusive to online retailer Big Bad Toy Store. He was sculpted by Mark Wong of Art Asylum and limited to 250 pieces. The sculpt features Dirge's distinctive wings.

Notes
* Simon Furman originally planned for Dirge and the other "coneheads" to appear and defend the Nemesis in the conclusion to Beast Wars, but this plot point was dropped due to time and budget constraints. Furman was so disappointed at his missed chance to use Dirge (whom he appreciated because he has a "...a cool doom-laden name") that he chose the character to be one of Unicron's heralds in the Armada comic's "Worlds Collide" arc.
* Colorist Drew Eiden stated at the Collector's Club panel at 2007 that the day after final colors were applied to the Timelines comic where Dirge apparently falls dead, he found this article and noted to editor Pete Sinclair how ironic it was. Whether the comic was actually intended to continue Dirge's death-trend is unknown.
