Instead of being composed of Cybertronian living metal, they are made of Earth's own elements, and their molecular structure looks as organic as it does mechanical. Though their systems do register energon levels, they don't actually use it to survive. Instead, they consume liquid water, though it has to be found in underground pools which likewise bear the touch of Quintus Prime.

The first five Terrans were created by Robby and Mo Malto's contact with the Emberstone, and are bonded to them by cyber-sleeves. Due to this and their adoption by the Malto family, these Terrans are sometimes affectionately known as the Maltobots. The two later Terrans created from Emberstone shards have no such connection with the Maltos and are called the Chaos Terrans.
The first Terran was born millions of years ago when Quintus Prime arrived on Earth. Pursued by the Quintessons—vengeful creations seeking his Emberstone—Quintus created the the Titan Terratronus from the resources of Earth to guard the relic from the forces that the Quintessons had left behind. Witwicky, Part 1

The next two Terrans, Twitch and Thrash, were created when, in the modern day, the siblings Robby and Mo Malto discovered the Emberstone in a cave beneath Witwicky, Pennsylvania. When they activated it, the Emberstone created Twitch and Thrash from the cave water, an act witnessed by Dr. Meridian's Arachnamechs. Having been granted cyber-sleeves that linked them to the newborns, the humans took them to their family farm. Electing to keep Twitch and Thrash a secret, Robby and Mo hid them in their barn, providing them with comic books about the Cybertronian race to inform them of their heritage. The next morning, they had their father, Alex Malto, recite the history of the Autobot/Decepticon war only to learn that Twitch and Thrash felt disconnected from Cybertron and instead sought to learn about Earth. Secret Legacy, Part 1

A later play session allowed Twitch to discover her scanning abilities, letting her take on a drone as an alternate mode. Feeling left out, Thrash was taken to Witwicky so he could scan an alternate mode of his own. Their excursion was interrupted by the arrival of more Arachnamechs. While Twitch managed to dispatch one, the rest were defeated by Optimus Prime, Elita-1 and Megatron. The adults decided that Twitch and Thrash would be best cared for in G.H.O.S.T. custody, only for Meridian to pose as G.H.O.S.T. and abduct them. Scanning the two, Meridian discovered their partially organic make-up, dubbing them as Terrans before he prepared to dissect them. The cyber-sleeves worn by the Malto siblings allowed G.H.O.S.T. to track down the Terrans and rescue them from Meridian's base, Thrash even managing to scan a motorcycle alternate mode in the process. In the aftermath, Optimus agreed to keep the Terrans a secret and allow them to remain with the Maltos, assigning Bumblebee to mentor them. Secret Legacy, Part 2

Though keeping G.H.O.S.T. ignorant of the Terrans, Classified Optimus informed the other Autobots of the existence of Earth-born Transformers. Traditions Decoy (episode) With the fate of the AllSpark unknown, Warzone and suspecting that the handful of Cybertronians on Earth represented the last of their kind, the Autobots came to view the Terrans as hope for rebuilding their species. Age of Evolution, Part 1

On Robby and Mo's first day of school, Twitch and Thrash began malfunctioning. Eventually losing their higher functions, the two Terrans made for the cave system that had birthed them. Bumblebee and the Malto children arrived in time for Twitch to cause a cave-in whereupon the Terrans succumbed to stasis lock. Though it was initially feared that they had passed, Robby and Mo splashed enough of Quintus' water on their friends to revive them. Friends and Family

After being forced to remain hidden during a Decepticon attack, Twitch angrily revealed enough of the Terrans' origins to Optimus Prime for him to recognize the Emberstone, he and Bumblebee setting out with the Terrans to retrieve it. No sooner had they claimed the stone did Skywarp and Nova Storm attack, releasing a swarm of Arachnamechs. Outnumbered, Mo beseeched Quintus for aid, the Prime activating the Emberstone to create three new Terrans; Nightshade, Jawbreaker and Hashtag. Age of Evolution, Part 1

With Megatron and Dot Malto held prisoner by Meridian, Optimus concocted a plan to rescue them, having the new Terrans pose as Decepticons who would turn over Optimus, Twitch and Thrash to Meridian in exchange for safe haven. Though the ruse was found out in short order, and the group was forced to contend with Meridian's base defences, they managed to rescue Dot and Megatron. In the aftermath, the three new Terrans were brought to live on the Malto farm. Age of Evolution, Part 2

Over the course of the next several weeks, Hashtag and Nightshade would gain alt-modes and abilities much like their older siblings. Hashtag acquiring a G.H.O.S.T. surveillance van that gave her the ability to connect to any Wi-Fi point on the planet. Hashtag: Oops While Nightshade obtained an owl beast mode that granted them flight and energy powers. Missed Connection Jawbreaker meanwhile decided to take his time when it came to deciding his alt-mode, feeling that vehicles weren't right for him. Outtakes

Seeing the Terrans as a renewed chance of hope for their species, Megatron took the group and their Malto siblings to visit Spacebridge Memorial Park. There he taught them about the Autobot/Decepticon war and the cost it had on both Cybertron and Earth. However, Thrash repeatedly questioned Megatron on what he thought was placing an unfair burden on the group to clean up the Decepticon's mess. He was pulled back when Mo pointed out he was hoping to teach them to not make the same mistakes their predecessors made. During the trip, the group encountered the lost Decepticon Shockwave who regarded the Terrans as abominations. Warzone

When taken by Robby and Mo to Philadelphia for the first time, the Terrans found themselves tricked into entering an underground Bot Brawl fighting ring, where they coincidentally ran into Bumblebee. When the mind-controlled Grimlock was revealed to be Bee and Jawbreaker's opponent, they managed to free the Autobot. Leaving the Dinobot to cool off, the Terrans briefly took their leave, only to discover that he'd vanished when they returned. Home, Part 1

The search for Grimlock soon turned into a battle with the returning Mandroid. After taking down one of Mandroid's newest Arachnamech creations, Hashtag was enthralled by Mandroid, turning her size and Wi-fi powers against the rest. Empowered by a mysterious energy that originated back from the cave where the Terrans were born, the other Terrans managed to free their sister, racing back to Witwicky in hopes of getting home before their parents woke up. Home, Part 2

Grimlock crossed path with the Malto kids and chased them to the farm, where Twitch used her EMP to knock him out and take him to the Dugout before he reawakened in a panicked state. Jawbreaker struck up a friendship with the Dinobot. While at a quarry, he scanned a Stygimoloch fossil for his alt mode, but Jawbreaker's innocent enthusiasm inadvertently triggered Grimlock's memories of his time enslaved by Mandroid, causing him to go on a rampage through Witwicky. Jawbreaker then used his new mode to calm down Grimlock. A Stygi Situation The Terrans and the kids later praticed in the recroom at G.H.O.S.T. HQ before Mandroid's interference with Wheeljack's tech changed the simulation into a battle against a holographic version of Megatron. Hashtag managed to shut it down but Robby was hurt defeating Megatron in the simulation. Disarmed
Sparkstalker is an example of bad allotment of resources. He is a brilliant cryptologist, a criminal mastermind capable of hacking Autobot datatracs and disabling the firewalls around their secure files or coded transmissions with incredible skill and secrecy, uncovering entire battle-plans without Autobot high command even knowing they've been uncovered. Decepticon military intelligence would raise several levels of efficiency if they employed him full-time. Instead, Sparkstalker has been made a Firecon, teamed with (or more like babysitting) pyromaniacs and military dropouts like Cindersaur and Flamefeather, who require constant supervision so that they don't burn down the Decepticons' own fortifications. Sparkstalker spends most of his time physically grabbing his partners by the head and aiming their fire breath towards the Autobots, or at least away from their fellow Decepticons. It's a gruelling job, and one he's hardly suited for.
Sparkstalker and his fellow Firecons were based on Cybertron for "homeland detail" for most of the war prior to Unicron's arrival. They were given their first mission to Earth when the Cybertronian Decepticons were interested in forming an alliance with Galvatron, the lone super-powerful Decepticon from the future. En-route to meeting Galvatron, the envoys encountered the Autobots Fizzle, Guzzle, and Sizzle on a Florida beach and proceeded to torch the three of them with their fiery breaths. They held the upper hand for quite some time, until their opponents finally managed to fight back; Sparkstalker got a taste of his own medicine when Sizzle unleashed his own flaming torrent onto him from his vehicle mode's exhaust port. The fight ended when Galvatron came upon it, and he rejected the Decepticon envoys' proposal for an alliance outright. Enemy Action! Later on, the Firecons worked together with an alien named Zabra to run an illegal gladiatorial arena in Tyrest out of the old Jekka Amphitheatre. Once the war was over, the Firecons came to live in a Decepticon ghetto on Cybertron, where they took offense to the presence of Optimus Prime and joined an angry lynch mob that attacked him. City of Steel (issue) Optimus had to be airlifted to safety. Fight or Flee (issue) When Gutcruncher's bar was burned down shortly afterwards, Sparkstalker suspected—and feared—an act of Autobot reprisal for their actions. Their hideout was then attacked by Sandstorm and the Dinobots, suspecting their involvement in recent murders making use of infernus bullets, and in spite of Sparkstalker's pleas that there'd been a misunderstanding, Sandstorm blasted his legs off and prepared to execute him. The vengeful Autobot was talked down by Optimus Prime, Quest for Fire after which the Firecons were taken into custody and proven innocent—after all, they didn't need infernus bullets to kill people with fire. The Killing Jar (issue) The actual killer turned out to be Sandstorm, who was disgusted anyone would care that he tried to kill such blood-stained monsters as the Firecons. Forever Is a Long Time Coming (issue)

When Cybertron had a disastrous first contact with the lost colony of Caminus, Sparkstalker was one of the former Decepticons who went over to help. On camera, he grumped that after all his efforts Cybertron had just ended up with a new social hierarchy, one powered up with a space bridge and a combiner. His cynicism was interrupted when he found the Camiens being nice to him and glad he had shown up. The Possible Light He helped Lightbright clear rubble to rescue people (while dissing her for trying to lift on her own).

It all ended in tears when Devastator, Prowl's pet combiner, demanded every Cybertronian must leave Caminus or be destroyed. Sparkstalker shot first rather than allow an Autobot to push him around again. The resulting battle went poorly but battle damage caused by Superion allowed Sparkstalker, as part of Chromia's squad, to have a second go by shooting into his wounds. Mistakes and Mayhem After the fight was over and Starscream took all credit and political capital, Sparkstalker muttered that the High Chancellor was "prancing around like the king of the universe". You, Me, and the Universe

At the end of the Combiner Wars, Sparkstalker stood with Lightbright and the other Camiens against an attack by Swindle. All That Remains When a group of Camiens were proselytizing in the Decepticon ghetto, Sparkstalker defended their Prime worship since they had treated Decepticons well. This opinion earned him the ire of Needlenose, who accused him of having low standards. The Transgressors

Sparkstalker and Lightbright developed a close relationship, hanging out and flirting with each other at Maccadam's Old Oil House during a party. D'aww. Windblade vol. 2 issue 4 He later asked Lightbright to be his Conjunx Endura. She agreed! Choose Me

When Galvatron called upon the Decepticons on Cybertron to retake their rightful place as conquerors, Sparkstalker was among those who stood ready. Conquerors Part 1: Aphelion He and a small army of Decepticons stormed Iacon Spaceport 1 and captured the spacebridge, allowing them to travel to the Ark-7 and begin an onslaught against the ship's crew. Conquerors Part 2: Lagrange When Optimus Prime fought back against the Decepticon invasion of Earth that followed, he also declared Earth a Cybertronian colony, attempting to annex it into the Council of Worlds. Sparkstalker took to the streets with many Neutrals and colonists who opposed the idea of a Prime's prerogative bringing imperialism back to Cybertron. All Hail Optimus Part 3: The Medium and the Message

Sparkstalker joined a furious mass of Transformers on a march to the capital building, all of them pushed to breaking point by a Badgeless killing a Decepticon. Once there, Ironhide emerged to tell them he'd been put in charge of reforming the Badgeless and he was opening the ranks to anyone who wished to help. Sparkstalker, respecting Ironhide from their time on Caminus, stepped forward. Applicable Skills Sparkstalker went through basic training with Blast Off and the Tankors as they prepared for struggle on the streets. Things We Said We'd Never Do Their first mission came when Blast Off betrayed them, and joined with the other Combaticons via the Enigma of Combination to become Bruticus. Eventually, the new combiner was brought down and the Combaticons were arrested by Sparkstalker and his comrades. The Line Between Us

When a fleet of undead Titans was detected approaching Cybertron, Ironhide rallied the Cybertronian Security Force into action. Ping When the Titans reached Cybertron, Sparkstalker and Lightbright fought in the streets, Sparkstalker encouraging his love to run ahead and help Windblade inside the increasingly overwhelmed Metroplex. When the two cityspeakers shut down Metroplex to save him, Starscream asked Elita One to transform Carcer but she refused. Gambling that Carcer himself might be willing to help, Windblade assembled an infiltration team. At Windblade's order, Sparkstalker procured a holo-generator, Desperate Times so that Lightbright could disguise herself as Windblade and act as a decoy while Windblade accessed Carcer's brain module. Piloting Lightbright's ship, Sparkstalker infiltrated Carcer only for their group to be found by Elita. Desperate Measures (Till All Are One)

Though Windblade managed to use Carcer to repel the invasion, the Titan turned out to be Vigilem, the Titan of Liege Maximo who freed his master. When Chromia was sent to him down, Sparkstalker and Lightbright loaded up the Sabre for her. The Chosen One

When Unicron began its assault on the Council of Worlds, Lightbright and Sparkstalker were part of the force defending Caminus from Unicron. They were saved from a group of Maximals by Dirge, only for a clawed one to kill the Seeker. Sparkstalker briefly summarized Dirge to his wife, eulogizing his comrade. Last Stand (Unicron) After Unicron had been destroyed and the Cybertronian race had moved on to Earth, Lightbright and Sparkstalker helped with cleanup efforts in San Francisco alongside Jazz and Rom. Post
A member of the Rise, Sparkstalker was one of Shockwave's trio of technical experts. He and Bitstream created a data-bomb that Slipstream's strike team used to disable the Titan Net. The Change In Your Nature Part Four
Although it was necessary at the time for the Rise's sedition, things changed once Megatron and his forces staged a coup and seized control of the government. Megatron wanted the Titans back online and in service of the Decepticons, so he had the existing Hub staff cleared out and replaced with Mindwipe, Bitstream, and Sparkstalker. War World: Hunt Even with direct access to the Titan Net, however, their initial attack proved too effective. The data-bomb had caused damage that seemed irrevocable. The orbit of the slumbering Titans was already beginning to decay. Thinking in terms of triage, Megatron was concerned some other data specialist not loyal to the cause may gain access to the Titans from a subsidiary Hub as they did. If the Titans would not serve the Decepticons, Megatron ordered Sparkstalker's team to eliminate them entirely. They accelerated the damage, causing all the Titans in orbit to crash down to Cybertron. War World: Titans

The Trinity were given access to the last Titanspark by Megatron, in hopes they could bring it online. However, when Exarchon returned, Bitstream and Sparkstalker saw another use for the spark cage technology holding the Titanspark. Against Mindwipe's whining, they explained to Megatron that the cage could be modified to trap and contain the Threefold Spark indefinitely. War's End Part Two Megatron saw the necessity, and sent the Trinity out to the Sonic Canyons, where Sixshot was engaged with Exarchon's forces. : Released in the fifth year of Hasbro's US The Transformers toyline, Sparkstalker transforms from a robot to a bipedal insectoid monster thing, much resembling a chibi Gigan from Godzilla. In this mode, his rear limbs can be swung up, allowing him to be rolled forward on the rubber gear-wheel on his belly (and further balanced by a wide free-rolling wheel under the monster-neck, though as it is hard plastic this makes it very prone to being severely scraped up). Rolling the gear-wheel with sufficient speed activates the Firecon team's gimmick, shooting "cold" sparks from their beast mode mouths.

: His leg has an indent for a rubsign (as do all the other Firecons and Sparkabots), but as both Hasbro and Takara had phased that gimmick out by that point, he simply has a normal factory-applied Decepticon faction symbol sticker there.

Unicron is the eternal arch-enemy of his twin brother Primus. Also known as the Lord of Chaos, the Chaos Bringer, and the Planet Eater, he is dedicated to consuming the multiverse. His massive form is powered by the consumption of planets, moons, stars, and even the very fabric of existence. Unicron will not be sated until his ultimate goal is attained: to bring an end to the annoying creation boasting independence around him, and find peace by becoming the living center of a swirling, infinite torrent of nothingness at the end of all things.

To undertake this seemingly overwhelming task, Unicron is able to travel across realities at will, a meandering plague upon existence itself. Integrated into his systems are incomprehensible quantum computers which calculate probabilities forward and backwards in time, in perpetuity, giving his processors an ever changing, evolving map of the multiverse. With these abilities at his disposal, Unicron has thus far devoured approximately 22.56% of known universes. Seen at a detached distance from the multiverse, this collective "Unicron Phenomenon" acts with the characteristics of a virus or plague seeping through reality, succeeding where it can, retreating when it cannot. Various permutations of Unicron can spawn into existence outside the trappings of the larger entity, hailing from a more mundane origin but possessing the same consumptive traits. For much of multiversal history, the singularity Unicron threatened all of existence, but now, that is no longer the case, and versions of Unicron are now restricted to their own dimensions.

The only thing that he fears is Primus's essence, contained inside the Matrix of Leadership. To a being of chaos and uncreation, this font of life is a poison.

Frequently, Unicron will make deals with lesser beings, promising them vast new powers in exchange for their servitude. These minions are sometimes stripped entirely of free will, but many others follow willingly. Service to Unicron, however, is a double-edged sword, for it causes insanity and loss of self. And in the end, Unicron's plans ultimately call for their consumption as well.

Conceptual history
Unicron debuted as the central antagonist of 1986's The Transformers: The Movie, which established him as a monstrously powerful being seemingly only vulnerable to the supernatural energies contained within the Autobot Matrix of Leadership. The Movie presented Unicron as more of an abstract obstacle than a full-fledged character: it didn't explain what Unicron was, nor where he came from, or any specific reasoning for why Unicron specifically targeted Cybertron. Subsequent episodes of The Transformers cartoon, set in the same continuity as The Movie, were the first works of Transformers media to fill in these details and craft the first of Unicron's many origin stories: as related in the third season episode "Call of the Primitives", the cartoon's Unicron was created by an alien scientist known as Primacron, but Unicron rebelled against his creator and set out into space alone.

However, the Marvel Transformers comic had incorporated its own version of Unicron into its own universe, entirely separate from the cartoon's goings-on. Starting in 1988, author Simon Furman established an entirely different backstory for the character, tweaking details as necessary as the storyline evolved. As first recounted in "The Legacy of Unicron!", the comic's Unicron was the one of the Dark Gods—in the early days of the universe, he had menaced Primus lord of the Light Gods, and their battle ended with Primus reshaping his body into the metallic planetoid that would one day become Cybertron. Primus entrusted the first Transformer with a fragment of his own essence, which became the Matrix. With each retelling of the story, the roles of the Dark and Light gods diminished; finally, in issue #74, it was revealed that Unicron predated the universe itself, having devoured the previous universe in ancient times, and that the sentient core of the universe had created Primus to defeat him—as a result, his attacks on Cybertron became merely the latest attempt to snuff out his age-old enemy.

Unicron didn't appear in the Beast Wars or Beast Machines cartoons, although the alien Vok adopted his countenance in the episode "Other Voices, Part 1", and dialogue suggests that events similar to those of The Movie occurred at some point in Cybertron's history. However, Unicron did appear in the Beast Machines-adjacent Universe franchise, which featured him kidnapping Cybertronians from across the Transformers multiverse.

That same year, Unicron starred as the final boss of the Transformers: Armada franchise. While the Armada cartoon episode "Origin" put a cerebral spin on Unicron's villainy by revealing that he'd deliberately created the Mini-Cons as a way to agitate the ongoing Cybertronian civil war, the Dreamwave comic took inspiration from Universe in its depiction of Unicron as an interdimensional threat, systematically devouring his way across realities before moving on to his next target. Around this time, a set of Armada trading cards released by Fleer nailed down the first "modern" interpretation of the Primus/Unicron mythos: in this telling, the two were brothers who'd been created by an extradimensional entity named the "Allspark" at the dawn of time to explore the universe. This was subsequently expanded on and combined with aspects of the various Marvel Comics stories in Transformers: The Ultimate Guide, written by Simon Furman, who had written all three prior tellings in the first place. Here, the entity Fleer had called the "Allspark" was redubbed "The One", and the modern iteration of the myth detailed above was firmly established, and went on to form the backbone of most subsequent fiction. Unicron played a significant role in Armada's direct sequel, Energon; that franchise ended with Unicron's remains collapsing into a massive black hole, and this "Unicron Singularity" became the primary threat in Cybertron. As a result of his prominence in all three franchises, these are often referred to as the "Unicron Trilogy". In the pages of The Ultimate Guide, Furman also established that the original Thirteen Transformers had been created specifically to battle Unicron at the dawn of time, and this detail would become a staple of the Primus/Unicron origin myth.

In 2005, Hasbro copywriter Forest Lee built off Unicron's "Worlds Collide" backstory; in the pages of the official Collectors' Club magazine, he laid down the idea that Unicron was a "multiversal singularity"—across all the various Transformers stories, there was only one Unicron capable of crossing dimensions at will. Although subsequent Fun Publications media embraced the notion, the idea never really caught on outside this specific niche: the Black Horizon crossover epic presented Unicron as a rogue alien who'd been banished from his world, and the "Aligned" continuity established that Unicron and Earth were one and the same; notably, none of this lore ever attempted to reconcile Unicron's origins in the original Sunbow cartoon with the Marvel-inspired lore that had superseded it. In 2015, the "Ask Vector Prime" column massaged the notion by revealing that there were both "singularity" and "non-singularity" iterations of Unicron, and specifically highlighted the Unicron of The Movie as one of these non-singularity iterations.

As inconsistencies piled up, however, Fun Publications chose to do away with the idea entirely—in 2015, the "Another Light" story arc introduced the Shroud, an in-fiction event that retroactively nullified all multiversal singularities into an infinite series of alternate selves. From this point onwards, creators have the freedom to depict Unicron however they wish—be it a planet-eating god of destruction, an ultraterrestrial threat, or a rogue weapon created by an alien scentist—all these depictions and more can now freely coexist.
Soon Jetfire managed to trace Optimus Prime to this dying universe and travel there to rescue him. Using the power of the Mini-Con Matrix, Prime and Jetfire were able to combine into Jet Optimus and fire a powerful shot into the heart of Unicron. Optimus Prime called for an alliance with the Decepticons and the Mini-Cons, hoping to unite their forces against the coming Dark god. Ten years later, his broken body was still left floating in space after his defeat. Despite his damaged form, his core presented huge potentials for power, and so Alpha Quintesson gathered together a group of Decepticon dissidents under the leadership of Scorponok and transformed them into "Terrorcons". Optimus Prime, who received a telepathic message from the disembodied Megatron, turned to the Autobot High Council for permission to dedicate an army towards Unicron's return and his intent to consume alleged huge amounts of energon on Earth, but the Council dismissed these concerns as paranoia. While they did not grant Prime his army, they did permit him to travel to Earth alone. Before Prime could get out of the building, Unicron's Horsemen struck. Unicron's first attack on Cybertron was over a million years in the making, begun when he opted to disguise his dormant body as Cybertron's moon. From this secret vantage point, he implanted his own cells within the planet, where they germinated and grew into the small race of robots known as the Mini-Cons. Unicron hoped to use the Mini-Cons to increase the ferocity of the Autobot/Decepticon war, and feed off of the energies released in the conflict. The Cybertronians would then be subjugated through the Mini-Cons' influence. Though his plan succeeded in one timeline, the interference of three time-displaced children changed this. Rad White, Carlos Lopez, and Alexis Thi Dang planted the seed of sentience and free will within the Mini-Cons, who ultimately rebelled against their creator and fled Cybertron, crash-landing on the planet Earth.
None of the Transformers were aware, however, that Unicron lived on in two forms: his miniscule Spark, floating in space, and his consciousness, which lay buried in Megatron's mind. With quiet, subconscious nudging, Unicron led Megatron to a massive reservoir of "Super Energon" beneath Cybertron's surface, Ambition which transformed him into Galvatron upon his first exposure. Wishes Galvatron used his newfound power to take command of Cybertron, exiling the Autobots off-world by unleashing a toxic energon gas into the atmosphere.
At some point in time, a virtual copy of Unicron appeared in an Autobot "virtual training program" as a special opponent for Hot Shot and Rodimus to battle after defeating all other contenders. Despite this copy being scaled-down to be about the same size as his opponents, he proved to be a formidable foe.
After a series of failed battles, Galvatron proceeded to expose himself to the Super Energon once again, and this time grew to a gigantic height. Galvatron Terror Unicron seized control of his body again for a new vessel and set out to rejoin with his Spark, Destructive Power but a Primus-empowered Optimus Supreme engaged him in battle once more, and drew all of Unicron's consciousness out of Galvatron and sealed it within his own Spark. Spark (episode)
Enraged, Galvatron prepared to destroy Unicron's Spark, but it merged with him, enlarging him again, leading to another battle with Optimus Supreme, this time bolstered by the combined energy of all his troops' Sparks. Meanwhile, Primus merged with the Super Energon, creating a foundling sun which arrived at the site of the battle. Taking control of his body for a brief moment, Galvatron made the decision to plunge himself into the infant sun to rid himself of Unicron's possession. The super energon mass, having now received Unicron's spark, ignited into a powerful red sun which gave new life to Alpha Q's worlds. The Sun
In the distant past, the planet Earth formed around the inert body of Unicron. On Cybertron, Unicron was known as the planet's ancient enemy. A book that would eventually come to be held in the Trinity Library spoke of Unicron being the core of Earth.

Somehow the Cybertronian sorceress Quintessa had discovered Unicron's resting point and hit on a plan to restore Cybertron by draining the life from Unicron to revive the planet, sending both Megatron and a brainwashed Optimus Prime to Earth to reclaim the device she needed to complete her plan.
In preparation, Quintessa moved Cybertron into Earth's solar system, its presence causing Unicron's six horns to sprout on the Earth as he reacted to the presence of his old enemy. Growing at a rate of three meters a day, the horns were a sign of a great scientific curiosity and mass panic across the globe. Sir Edmund Burton and Cogman recognized the horns for what they were and took them as a sign of the apocalypse.

At Stonehenge, Quintessa and Megatron began the ritual and sent Unicron's life force to Cybertron before the Autobots and the TRF halted their efforts. Enough of Unicron's life force had been sent to Cybertron however that it had healed most of its damage to the point that the Autobots felt they were able to return to their homeworld.

In the aftermath, several human scientists were examining one of Unicron's horns only to be approached by Quintessa in a human guise. She warned them against touching the horn, lest they incur Unicron's wrath, but offered them a way to kill the Chaos Bringer. Transformers: The Last Knight (film)
Legends that predated Cybertronian civilization described Unicron as a dark god who consumed planets, but few knew of the legends, and fewer still believed them. The Maximals learned that Unicron was real only when the Chaos Bringer arrived on their doorstep to consume their planet. Unicron deployed his Terrorcon and Predacon forces led by his chief Herald Scourge, who he had long ago enslaved. Unicron tasked them with finding the Transwarp Key, a Maximal device that would enable him to continue his rampage across time and space at will, before he consumed the Maximal planet. Unicron was livid with Scourge for losing the key as the Maximals led by Optimus Primal fled, and commanded Scourge to find the key. Though Unicron was still able to feast on the Maximal planet, he was left in the current galaxy, forced to rely on his own power to move about space, but this soon left him starving and desperate to find another planet to feast on.

Scourge later found half of the Transwarp Key on Earth in 1994, but when he presented his prize to his master, Unicron scolded and tortured his minion as it was only half of the key. Scourge eventually retrieved the other half in Peru and began opening a portal in time and space for Unicron to come through. Unicron relished his apparent victory and made ready to devour Earth, but Primal and Optimus Prime's Autobots defeated Scourge and his other forces. When Prime made to destroy the portal, Unicron hastily offered Prime whatever he wanted in exchange for not proceeding, but the Autobot leader had none of it and destroyed the portal. Though Unicron had been stranded once again in his current location and time, the Autobots and Maximals acknowledged he had likely survived the collapse of the portal, but stood resolute that they would defeat him should he ever return to Earth.
After the Autobots defeated the Decepticons on Earth and had secured the majority of the Mini-Cons there, Unicron made his appearance above Cybertron, intent on destroying the planet. Optimus Prime's team of Autobots and the Mini-Cons returned home via a warp gate to see the Chaos Bringer unleash a wave of destruction upon the great cities of their planet. The Mini-Cons joined to form the Matrix Cannon, the Vanguard Booster and the Nemesis Shield for the Autobots to use against Unicron. The Autobots flew into Unicron's maw and blasted their way into his energy core, damaging it enough to send Unicron spiralling out of control and destroying him. Transformers (PS2)
In his attempts to stop Scorponok and the other Terrorcons from retrieving Megatron, held deep within Unicron himself, the Chaos Bringer dispatched many units acting as his automated defenses. Among these were Pods, weak individually but strong in numbers; Tentacle Pods, more advanced versions of the previous units possessing ranged attacks; slow moving but strong Tendril units; heavily armored Spiderbot units; and immobile but powerful Shocktowers. A final unit, The Cortex, held Megatron captive. Once The Cortex was destroyed, Megatron was released and Unicron was defeated. Transformers Energon: Battle for Megatron
1930s Chicago is not Percy's kind of town.

Synopsis
Team two—Roadblock, Beach Head, the Baroness and a Cobra trooper named Percy—realize they've materialized in 1937 Chicago. The trooper, Percy, immediately begins to freak out; time travel is just more than he can deal with. The rest, meanwhile, debate using stealth (the Baroness) vs. force (the Joes). Muscle carries the day for the moment, and the team is soon looking down at their first target, a blue and red truck. Beachhead beats information out of the goons who are loading it, and learns that a local crime boss found the truck with five other vehicles, and has them in a garage under his nightclub. The team decides to activate the robot, figuring some muscle on their side might be useful. They're in luck—it's Optimus Prime. A few explanations later, the team is on their way to the other targets.

On Cybertron, the Teletran 3 tower is surrounded by a platoon of Decepticons. Inside, Perceptor has secured Blitzwing, but Magnus is growing weary from holding the force field up. There's only 6 hours of power left.

Meanwhile, decades earlier: The Baroness, in sultry period dress, is getting a tour of Tommy Fingers' nightclub. Roadblock (introducing himself as "Miles Davis") secures a trumpet gig with the band. After the set, he bashes his way past a few goons in back, and summons the others. The Baroness arrives, having slipped Fingers a sleeping pill. Inside, Prime and company find four cars. The Baroness learned from Fingers that the last target, a truck, is packed with dynamite to be used in a bank heist. If they forcibly reactivate him, they risk setting it off, damaging the Transformer, and being unable to return him to Cybertron. To compound the problems, Prime doesn't know who they're looking at, so they debate whether to activate the four.

Before a decision can be reached, however, the choice is made for them. Breakdown wasn't mode-locked at all; and he doesn't care a whit for Earth's future. He transforms, blasts Prime, and activates his three comrades—the Stunticons!

Prime and the humans flee, with the four Decepticons hot on their tail. With some suppression fire from the Joes, and a collapsed bridge, Prime just barely manages to stay ahead of them. The last Cybertronian appears ahead, but the Stunticons are still coming up fast. As they prepare to fire, the Baroness says "screw it", and blasts the truck. The dynamite goes off. The Baroness activates the last 'bot—Motormaster—who transforms and falls on his butt, with little more than a nasty headache. As they teleport back to the future, she explains her reasoning: They're giant robots! Of course dynamite's not gonna hurt them!

The pessimistic Percy exults that he's still alive.

Another time, another place, and the third team materializes—amid the ruins of a destroyed city. And what appears to be a skyscraper-sized leg.
Notes
*Most of the Decepticons in this issue appear in the crowd shot surrounding the Teletran 3 tower. They're tiny, however, and not all clearly identifiable.
*In the absence of Motormaster, Breakdown leads the Stunticons.
*Period alternate modes shown in this issue include:
**Optimus Prime = 6-wheeled truck
**Breakdown = cool
**Dead End = sweet
**Drag Strip = awesome
**Wild Rider = kickass
**Motormaster = 6-wheeled truck
*Cover A features Wheeljack integrated into the design of New York City's Chrysler Building. Neither Wheeljack nor New York appear in the issue. Red herring!
*As with last issue, the whole issue is pretty much slathered in awesome.
*The final panel shows four titanic Decepticons rampaging across a ruined landscape. Three are in silhouette and the closest one only has part of his leg visible, but he's colored like the robot on next issue's cover, which was printed on the back cover of this issue. In 2015, the Facebook blog Ask Vector Prime would identify him as Ragnarok, a powerful Decepticon who was shunted from the G.I. *Years later, Adam Pollina would use the fact he'd drawn a variant cover for this comic to claim he'd worked on both franchises for, er, "Marvel". It wasn't his most egregious claim!
Astrotrain and Blitzwing depose Megatron and Starscream, then proceed to wreak havoc.

Synopsis
Starscream, Blitzwing and Astrotrain are using their weapons to carve their faces along with Megatron's into a mountainside. They agree one of the faces doesn't belong, then decide to band together and overthrow Megatron. Flying back to base, Blitzwing and Astrotrain decide who should lead Megatron into the trap, one of them suggesting Starscream while the other counters how the Air Commander has constantly been attempting to become leader of the Decepticons and failed. Starscream retorts as usual and says he will do it, and the other two gloat about manipulating him.

Starscream leads Megatron into the sewers, stating that a secret Autobot energy base is present there, but the doors close around them. Megatron recognizes it's a trap but gets frozen. Starscream gloats and tries to escape through a hatch but finds out that it's been locked by his "allies". This leaves Astrotrain and Blitzwing as joint Decepticon leaders.

Heading for a stadium, Blitzwing, in a display of great intelligence, drafts a football coach to be his second-in-command and demands tactical advice from him, keeping him stuffed in a locker when not needed. Blitzwing misinterprets the coach's suggestions of "zone defense" and "long bomb" and has the Constructicons build a massive highway maze, then begins firing "long bombs" from the stadium into the surrounding city. Prowl leads a group of Autobots to investigate, but they end up crashing into each other in the Constructicons' maze and getting mashed flat by Blitzwing in tank mode. Meanwhile, Astrotrain heads to a train station, where he "conscripts" the Astroforce, human trains which are to be his army. He sends them into a tunnel to collect energy lines and convert them into energon. It actually goes quite well for Astrotrain. The Astroforce? Not so much.

Meanwhile, Powerglide flies over the maze, where Scrapper has built himself a throne... made of Prowl, Tracks, Skids, and Bluestreak. Guided by Powerglide from the air, Hoist and Smokescreen manage to rescue the Autobots, causing Blitzwing and Scrapper to crash into each other. At the train station, the Seekers come to see how Astrotrain is doing. To his credit, he has gotten a lot of energon cubes, but his Astroforce has somehow gotten off their tracks and into a knot. Astrotrain urges one of the trains to gather some energy from a gas main, but it turns out to be a water main, which floods the tunnel. Worse, it heads into the tunnel in which Megatron and Starscream are trapped. Online again, Megatron accuses Starscream of another attempt at treason and begins the customary throttling. Starscream maintains that he was tricked. The pair go in search of the two traitorous Triple Changers.

Optimus Prime, Ironhide, and Spike see the two Decepticons, only to be distracted by the water main flooding the city. Optimus rescues Spike after the boy is washed away, handing him off to Powerglide to take to safety. Trailbreaker uses his force field to push back the water, while Optimus and Ironhide seal the main. Heading for the station, Megatron and Starscream encounter Prime, who claims that he's looking for the real leaders of the Decepticons, implying it isn't the two of them. This really angers Megatron, who tries to kill the Autobot leader, but Prime escapes. Megatron leaves to put Astrotrain and Blitzwing in their place, while the Seekers watch and place bets on who will win. Optimus, however, is content to sit back and wait for the outcome.

At the stadium, the Constructicons demand a share of the power Blitzwing promised, but he refuses and tells them to go jump off a bridge. Bad idea, for the Constructicons form Devastator. The flood from the water main finally dies out at the stadium, depositing Astrotrain, who decides to scrap Blitzwing as well.

Megatron and Starscream arrive, and Megatron beats his would-be usurpers senseless, but Devastator knocks out Megatron, then turns his sights on the Air Commander. Starscream manages to dodge Devastator, then Megatron slams the giant. Megatron, Blitzwing, Astrotrain, Starscream, and Devastator then engage in a battle royale which sees Megatron emerge victorious. He decides to spare the traitors, saying the Decepticon cause is too important, but warns them never to betray him again.

As the Autobots look on, they're impressed that Prime knew that Megatron would handle the Decepticons for them. The previously injured Autobots form a throne for their commander to sit on, but Optimus Prime declares that he'd rather roll.
Production information
* First draft script submitted: 23rd May 1985
* Dialogue recording: 10th June 1985
Continuity notes
*By this point in the series, Starscream's voice had gotten rather high-pitched, and this is one of the most notable instances.
*The Triplechangers' trap uses "absolute zero degree molecules".
*Astrotrain refers to the fleeing humans as "spineless plasm-heads".
*Gadgets and powers:
**Hoist unfolds an incredibly long length of telescoping crane to save a driver whose car ran into the river. No wonder they call him "Hoist"!
**Ironhide fires "supercool nitrogen" from his hand gun to patch the broken water main. It's a blue laser beam that solidifies as a dark blue substance.
**Trailbreaker's forcefields are rainbow-coloured. Pretty! He fires them from his gun arm again.
**Powerglide can float in place in jet mode.
*This is the second and last time that Skids shows up in the Generation 1 cartoon. He has a completely different voice than he did in "Quest for Survival".
*Where did the trailer go?
**Prime's trailer rolls in from off-screen when he transforms during the flood, and rolls away again when he returns to robot mode.
**The trailer follows him everywhere! Even when he transforms inside a random human building, the trailer comes rolling in!
*Scrapper making a throne from the trashed Autobots is based on his bio, which says he incorporates defeated Autobots into his works.
*Devastator makes his first attempt at usurping control of the Decepticons from Megatron and actually attacks his former leader, something that goes against previous character portrayals, in which he was shown as a loyal follower (particularly notable in "The Core"). Also, how Megatron was able to defeat him is unknown, since the battle ended off-screen. Earlier on in the fight, Megatron's fusion cannon shots just bounced off him, so it's a big mystery.
*< < What makes Starscream the leader? Megatron's gotten himself frozen! Unfortunately, so has Starscream. > >
Real-world references
*The weirdly improbable face carving is, of course, an homage to Mount Rushmore.
*Astrotrain's line about "No planet ever lost its orbit underestimating the stupidity of Starscream" is a paraphrase of a famous quotation by early 20th Century satirist and journalist H. L. Mencken.
*Star Wars sound effects:
**Some Millennium Falcon engine rumble as the Seekers fly into the subway tunnel.
**The sliding door sound effect from the Death Star is used for the trains venting steam.
**More Falcon noise as Megatron and Starscream take off to attack Blitzwing.
**X-Wings diving, and faint TIE Fighter roar, as Megatron takes off from the stadium.
Animation and technical errors
*Astrotrain is a real mess this episode.
**He spends virtually the entirety of this episode with an outdated color model which makes his helmet and most of his wings and shoulder-wheels grey instead of the standard purple of his finished design usually seen in the series. This alternate model can also be spotted in "The Secret of Omega Supreme", and will be consistently used by AKOM in season three.
**Further, in a small handful of scenes (most notably, the shot of him transforming as he arrives at the train station), he appears with a color scheme "in-between" his outdated and finished designs, with purple helmet and shoulder wheels, but still mostly-grey wings (right). It's not clear if this came from an actual, third model sheet that was created between colour revisions, or if it was just a goof by the colorist combining aspects of the two. This particular screenshot has been widely shared online as if it were Astrotrain's true cartoon coloration (it's one of the first things you get it you google "cartoon Astrotrain"), and consequently, it went on to influence the appearance of his 2019 Siege toy.
**Additionally, throughout the episode, he also intermittently appears with a different rear-view character model previously seen in the commercial for his toy, which omits the shuttle tailfin that's normally on his back, and makes the backs of his wings much more detailed.
*The conspiracists' laser-sculpting is not very credible. Several shots in a row produce no effect, and then Megatron's face appears in the rock after one additional shot. The three Decepticons aren't even moving their arms as they shoot. They also keep firing after the four faces are already complete.
*Coloring errors:
**As they fly in the beginning, Starscreams' chest is red when it should be white.
**As Starscream says, "I will get Megatron," Decepticon HQ is miscolored as white instead of purple.
**Starscream's eyes are blue as Megatron yells at him for failing.
**Blitzwing's tank barrel is purple as he aims at the football player with the ball.
**Blitzwing's head is purple instead of yellow as the transforms after hitting the scoreboard.
**The side of Blitzwing's eyeband is white instead of red as Scrapper yells for help.
**Thundercracker is colored as Starscream when the jets transform and land in the tunnel; not only is Starscream not part of the group, he is still frozen underground at this point.
**Blitzwing's head is purple again (instead of yellow) as he chastises the Constructicons for breaking his scoreboard.
**Megatron's helmet is a shade lighter than the rest of him as he tells Starscream to shut up. It changes back to normal as they start walking off.
**During the "Three energon cubes says you're wrong" profile shot, Thrust and Ramjet's color schemes are switched.
**Megatron's helmet is darker than the rest of his body as he says "Why not?" It changes to normal as Devastator picks him up.
*Starscream has only one wing emblem as he and Megatron walk through the sewer, and it's on right side up instead of the usual upside down.
*"Straight ahead, Megatron." Starscream's mouth isn't moving.
*When Blitzwing plows through the goal at the football stadium, the debris left behind vanishes in the next frame.
*When Blitzwing grabs the football coach, the coach is yelling, "Okay! Okay....commander!", but Blitzwing is the one mouthing the words!
*The camera shot during whole conversation between Blitzwing and the Coach is strangely cropped, so that Blitzwing's head is cut off above the mouth.
*The train conductor makes the bizarre deduction that Astrotrain has no driver. Couldn't the driver just be on the other side of the cab, out of sight? Hard to tell, since Astrotrain's forward-facing windows are missing in the shot. As is the rear half of his wheel assembly.
*Astrotrain rather flagrantly changes from all-purple to all-gray as he transforms.
*In the station, strange shot cropping again, as Astrotrain's head gets cut off for part of the shot.
*As Astrotrain walks up to the trains, the trains have changed positions from where they were in the previous shot, when they were visible through the hole in the station wall.
*A line of Astrotrain's appears to have been cut between "Even soldiers need brains" and "Astrotrain can fix that". This was presumably an assessment that the trains have no brains.
*When Astrotrain wrests down a computer component to start work on his train army, the component vanishes as he rips out the engine. The vent he ripped off is still on the train a moment later. And for a brief moment afterward, it appears as if Astrotrain picks up thin air with his hands.
*The lockers that Blitzwing kicks open to stuff his "second in command" into are extremely huge. If one compares the size of the coach to one of those lockers, he would need to jump just to reach one of the handles.
**On that note, how exactly does Blitzwing kick the locker door open? By all rights, it should be a lump of scrap metal on the floor.
*The guy whose car falls off the bridge yells "Help!" in Spike's voice.
*Scrapper is seen scooping a load of dirt when he appears, but as he transforms, not only is the dirt gone, but he appears in an entirely different location.
*After the first commercial break, Blitzwing's cannon shots randomly change from having the Decepticon laser noise to Optimus Prime's rifle noise.
*As Blitzwing first runs over Prowl and Skids, the two Autobots have switched positions from where they were in the previous shot. Perhaps in an attempt by the colorists to fix this, their color schemes are switched.
*Blitzwing runs over Prowl and Skids twice from the same direction. The second time he runs over them with no sense of vertical motion, as if they were flat as paper. He couldn't possibly have crushed them that flat.
*For some reason, Astrotrain gets a red glowing effect as he transforms out of train mode in the tunnels.
*Despite Astrotrain's orders to do various things, the train just keeps doing exactly the same thing over and over, courtesy of recycled animation.
*As the train backs up to bump into the pipe again, the glow effects of its headlights are floating in front of the headlights themselves.
*The Autobot throne changes quite a bit between shots. When we first see it, it's a lumpy pile of beat-up Autobots. When Hoist lassos it, it's mostly just Prowl and Skids, sitting back to back, undamaged. Prowl is even holding his gun!
*Thrust is shown during Thundercracker's "Leader?! How do you figure that?" line.
*When the seekers land in the tunnel, Starscream is shown landing, despite being frozen solid elsewhere. A couple shots later, you can see it was a miscolored Thundercracker.
*Two successive musical cues overlap for a second or two as the water comes bursting out of the tunnel.

*When the water bursts in and frees Megatron and Starscream, Starscream is standing upright. When he froze, he was crouching by the exit hatch. In the same shot, Megatron is missing his Decepticon insignia.
*After they unfreeze, Megatron floats past the camera three times in a row.
*When Spike is washed away, Optimus yells "Spike!," but Peter Cullen uses Ironhide's voice.
*Also, the animation used for those shots is strangely distorted, making Spike looking like a child for a few moments.
*When he finds Spike, Optimus sort of transforms around him. In the next shot, Spike is in the driver's seat but there's no steering wheel. And when Powerglide lowers his ladder, Prime's trailer has a red stripe on it rather than a white one.
*The depth of the water varies all over the place. In one shot, Trailbreaker drives it away from a building, revealing several floors that were completely inundated; in another shot, it's almost to the top of a streetlamp. In other shots, it's shallow enough for the Autobots to wade through. In one scene, Optimus is wading through water up to his shoulders, yet when he transforms, it only comes up to his fenders.
*A huge pipe is shown breaking when Optimus first tries to fix the broken water main. The pipe that he and Ironhide repair later, however, just has a tiny little crack in it, nowhere near enough to flood a tunnel, let alone a whole city.
*Trailbreaker's forcefields are rainbow-colored rather than golden in this episode.
*Blitzwing is doing a strange little boogie before the Constructicons smash his scoreboard, with electrical effects around his hand. It's not really clear what this is meant to be. Is it his endzone victory dance?
*Scrapper's cab roof is misdrawn during Blitzwing's "What bargain?" line.
*Megatron reaches off-screen during his confrontation with Optimus, and something electrical lights up; we never do see what it is, though.
*As Megatron and Starscream shoot at Optimus, Starscream suddenly shifts from behind Megatron to in front of him. This makes him look tiny for a moment.
*Megatron gets the standard Decepticon laser sound for his fusion cannon, layered on top of its normal sound effect.
*Someone mistook Prime's blinding headlights for a laser attack, and inserted his standard rifle sound effect a couple of times.
*Megatron is shown with foot thrusters as he and Starscream take off.
*Among the Decepticon jets following Prime to the stadium is an off-model Seeker (or maybe an off-model Blitzwing) colored like Astrotrain; this should be Thundercracker. The jets are flying extremely low; Thrust can't be more than 10 feet above the road.
*As they fly toward Blitzwing's position, Ramjet and Thrust are flying alongside.... Blitzwing.
*As the Autobots stand on the building roof, the water lapping at the building's edge is drawn as though it were surf coming in on a flat beach; parts of it just drift right over the building parapet.
*The same scene is supposed to show Trailbreaker using his forcefield to push Astrotrain toward the stadium, but it's so badly drawn and edited that it's very easy to miss.
*Devastator and Blitzwing are almost the same size as they grapple.
*As Starscream crashes after strafing Devastator, he passes in front of Blitzwing. The relative size makes it seem like he was meant to land behind him.
*While Astrotrain and Blitzwing are grappling, Devastator stomps Astrotrain's train mode underfoot, crushing it flat, shouting "You're next, Blitzwing!" As Astrotrain is still grappling with Blitzwing in the next shot, it's not clear what this was supposed to be. It's possible this shot was meant to come later, when Devastator is fighting the other four Decepticons.

Continuity errors
*Astrotrain reads the temperature in the trap room as "470 degrees below zero", but actual absolute zero is only 459 below zero.
*The coach is introduced commanding the team with the same colors as his own clothing, but by the time the game gets interrupted by Blitzwing, he's commanding the other team.
*The bridge that Hoist repairs is clearly blown in half, yet once Hoist leaps into the river to shore up its supports, traffic keeps rolling across it.
*The four Autobots are pretty much destroyed by Blitzwing. Bluestreak explodes, and chunks of him (and three of his tires) go flying in different directions. Prowl, Skids, and Tracks all crash explosively and are all crushed under Blitzwing's tank treads. Unsurprisingly, none of them are nearly so damaged when they show up again later.
*Despite what he says, Astrotrain doesn't have any score to settle with Blitzwing. (It's possible, though, that he just needed a good punching bag to beat up after the humiliation the Seekers gave him.)

Trivia
:Barrage is a Decepticon Insecticon from the Generation 1 continuity family.
Barrage believes winning is not enough, all must be leveled to the ground, and then the rubble should be burned and the ashes scattered to the wind. Merciless and cruel, he feels kindness of any sort is allowing the enemy hope, and that is unacceptable. He will shoot the retreating and the wounded, and even those taken prisoner. Barrage takes no prisoners. Then he'll keep firing until the battlefield is a smoldering crater. When he's deployed to a battlefield, even the other Decepticons take a few steps back. He's disliked even among their ranks. Maybe it's those beady, creepy little red eyes.

After the fragmentation of the Decepticon forces following Megatron's seeming destruction in a space bridge accident, Barrage joined Ratbat's Ultracons. Along with fellow Ultracons Chop Shop and Venom, he was involved in an altercation with Ultra Magnus, Blaster and Grimlock. Barrage accompanied his leader to the Autobot/Decepticon peace ceremony at Tyger Pax, where he granted a brief, violent 'interview' to the holo-image of Slamdance. The Age of Wrath

When Megatron and his Aerospace Extermination Squadron retook Cybertron and reunified the Decepticons, Barrage was assigned to supervise enslaved Autobot miners at Internment Camp Pi in Praxus. While there, he and Octane delivered a brutal beatdown to the rebellious Cliffjumper, but were beaten back by Brawn. The Age of Wrath Pt.2

Barrage, along with Chop Shop, Ransack, and Venom, remained on Cybertron following the departure of the Ark and the Nemesis. The planet's chronic energon shortage reduced them to a vampiric existence, forcing them to capture Micromasters and drain them of their fuel. While pursuing Falcon and Flanker in the Wastelands, they ran into the middle of a conflict between the Hot Rod Patrol and Race Track Patrol. Destined for Nothing

After devouring Falcon they soon set upon the other Micromasters, but were driven back by the timely arrival of Groundshaker, who left with the Hot Rod Patrol. The subsequent arrival of Shockwave prevented them from devouring the Race Track Patrol, but he did toss them Flanker as a snack. The Gray Race The Insecticons subsequently abducted the Race Track Patrol and several other Micromasters from Little Iacon, in an attempt to ferret out the Hot Rod Patrol and gain some new recruits in the process. When Blaze Master refused to sign up, Barrage shot him unconscious. En route to Decepticon HQ, Barrage's sonic rifle was stolen by the kleptomaniacal Chop Shop. Recipe for Hate Upon reaching headquarters, Barrage and his cohorts were caught in the middle of a Micromaster invasion. After watching Ransack fall, Barrage was decapitated by Roadhandler. Victims of the Revolution
G.I. Joe vs. the Transformers
As part of Serpent O.R.'s forces, Barrage defended the newly unified Decepticon army's base against a combined Autobot/G.I. Joe strike force. In the course of the battle, he was shot by Lady Jaye. The Art of War issue 5
During the early days of the war, Barrage served under Bludgeon as part of a team of Titan Hunters sent to find the lost Titan, Metroplex. On the two-hundred-and-thirty-eighth day of this grueling campaign, Barrage and his colleagues destroyed a Nibarian outpost because they believed it was between them and their quarry. A hunch from Thundercracker led them further to a planet inhabited by Urtuskians. As Barrage and the other Decepticons started obliterating the primitive outpost, believing Metroplex was underneath (and also because it was fun), their team was caught up to by a team of Autobots who had been trailing them. Barrage was a casualty of this battle, and when the Decepticons retreated without accomplishing their goal, he and Waspinator were left behind. The Hunting Party (IDW)

Barrage got off that planet and was later stationed on board the Thanatos. When Thunderwing returned to decimate Cybertron once more, Barrage joined the battle under Headstrong's command, serving as ground forces backing up Optimus Prime and the Wreckers in their struggle. Stormbringer issue 4 He later got back to his Titan-hunting duties, this time as part of a new team commanded by Lockdown. Their search led them to the Lost Light, an Autobot ship that had run into a piece of Metroplex, but while salvaging it they were confronted by Trailcutter who tricked them into believing he had fearsome force field abilities. Mortified that the guy might make their sparks go "pop" at any second, Barrage and the other Decepticons fled back to their ship and never looked back. The Reluctant Specialist

On the supposedly lost Luna 1, Barrage continued to work as part of Lockdown's crew, attacking Rodimus and a few others from the Lost Light for "trespassing" on a spark hot spot. Remain in Light 1 of 5: The Fecund Moon Pursuing them into a huge graveyard of deactivated Titans, Barrage and the others captured most of the Lost Lighters and delivered them into the custody of Chief Justice Tyrest. Remain in Light 2 of 5: House of Ambus
Moreso if you swing up the bug-mode mandible-things counter to the instructions. Otherwise, he resembles an ant.

: Like the other Kreons in this assortment, there is a minor mold variation to Barrage: the initial releases have the usual rounded-off "cuffs" of the forearms (pictured at right), while later runs have the forearms end in a sharp 90-degree angle, making them work better as studs to mount bricks on (though by this point not many Kreons used this trick).
He comes with a pair of blasters that formed the rear insect legs on Bombshell, but their position is taken by the new hindleg pieces on Barrage. These now-extra blasters can also combine with his rifle to form a bigger rifle.

: Barrage's robot mode is actually transformed differently than Bombshell's, with his upper body being reversed from his mold-mate. His arms are also pre-swapped to accommodate. This does leave his shoulder assembly looking a bit hollow, but forward butterfly joints more than make up for this. Unfortunately, this approach also causes screws that were on the robot's back in previous uses of the base mold to become visibly prominent on his chest and torso.

: He was only available in a multi-pack with Chop Shop (himself a retooling of Shrapnel who was a retool of Bombshell, yay recursion!) and Malleus Minotaurus, as part of the Mayhem Attack Squad-themed "Doom ‘n Destruction Collection". Decoed in black and grey, the mold first saw release under the name Beet-Gadol (ビート・ガドル Bīto Gadoru)—based on the Japanese word for "rhinoceros beetle", kabutomushi (カブトムシ). Takatoku Toys went out of business a short while later in 1984, and their assets were purchased by fellow Japanese toymaker Bandai. At that time, the American market was one Bandai was not very active in, which made it a competitor of Takara, but not of Hasbro. Due to this, the company had no objection to licensing various Takatoku molds to Hasbro in 1985 for sale primarily in the American market as part of their version of the The Transformers toyline. Nowadays, Bandai has a worthwhile interest in every market and since it only licensed the molds, there is little likelihood that Barrage and company will ever be reissued.
*Since Hasbro and Takara shared the original The Transformers cartoon as promotional material for their respective versions of the toyline, Barrage and the other Deluxe Insecticons were not included in its cast to avoid giving Japanese market-competitor Bandai free publicity. The group was also omitted from the U.S. Marvel comics and barely appeared in the UK Marvel comics, making them the least "successful" of the Takatoku molds.
*Barrage, Chop Shop, and Venom (but not Ransack) all appeared in their Beetras color schemes on Hasbro's 1985 packaging mural, along with several other toys in early or unused color schemes.
*Poor Barrage was one of several Transformers who never got a Marvel The Transformers Universe bio. One was written by Bob Budiansky but was rarely seen until Jim Sorenson put it up on his Disciples of Boltax blog.
*In the Family Guy "Tiegs for Two', Barrage makes a cameo in a cutaway gag. This is due to the creator, Seth MacFarlane, being a Transformers fan himself and actually owned the toy.
