'''''Transformers: Fall of Cybertron''''' is a direct sequel to the 2010 game ''[[Transformers: War for Cybertron (games)|War for Cybertron]]'' that was released on [[August 21]], [[2012]]. Published by [[Activision]] and developed by [[High Moon Studios]] (with the PC version being handled by [[Mercenary Technology]]), the game is a continuation of the events of ''War for Cybertron''. It explores the [[Autobot]]s' attempts to escape from a rapidly deteriorating [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] aboard the ''[[Ark (WFC)|Ark]]'', as well as the gradual downfall and collapse of the remnants of Cybertronian society. A side story also focuses on the creation of the [[Dinobot (FOC)|Dinobots]].

Considerably darker in tone than its predecessor, the game begins with [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]] outright conceding defeat to the [[Decepticon]]s, who are in no better straits than their enemies. The story does not shy away from the grim realities of a dying planet and its inhabitants who cope with it. Characters grieve their losses, be it their home or their comrades. Both sides are depicted resorting to extremes just to keep fighting another day, and all hope seems lost. Yet a critical discovery by [[Grimlock (WFC)|Grimlock]] may light the way for the [[Transformer]] species to a new era and hope; provided they can survive the fall of Cybertron.

{{quote|This terrible war will reach its end. Not because [['Til all are one|all have finally become one]]. But simply, I fear, because all have become ''none''.|[[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]]}}
==Synopsis==
===Chapter I: The Exodus===
:''Character: [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]]''

The [[Ark (WFC)|Ark]] heads off to the portal which will take them to [[Earth]]. [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] invades the ship using the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]'', sending [[Decepticon]]s over directly to the bridge of the Ark, forcing Bumblebee, [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] and [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]] to fight off the aggressors. With more Decepticons swarming the engine room, Optimus heads off to help, leaving Bumblebee to protect the bridge. The artillery cannons are taken offline and the ship blows a [[moleculon fuse|fuse]]. Ratchet sends Bumblebee off to fix it, and after braving nearly being sucked into space, the scout soon replaces the fuse and ascends up a lift to the defense tower. He witnesses Autobots being overrun by a [[Titan (FOC)|Titan]] and then on another level, [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]], [[Laserbeak (WFC)|Laserbeak]] and [[Rumble (WFC)|Rumble]] attacking. He reaches the defense mainframe and rushes the Decepticon manning it, reactivating the Ark's guns. The tower is hit by a claw that knocks him down a shaft. With his alternator jarred back into gear, Bumblebee transforms and races through an outer area, avoiding explosions, Decepticon tow cables and large chunks of rubble. He passes [[Bruticus (WFC)|Bruticus]] having a [[Brawl (WFC)|brawl]] and bringing an [[Onslaught (WFC)|onslaught]] of destruction. He makes it to a stronghold, restocking on ammo, [[energon]] and weapons. He fights his way through a few waves of Decepticons, making his way to the engine room, where Prime and Megatron are doing battle. He pushes through enemy lines, with the help of two Titans, and makes his way to the engine room. There he finds Optimus and Megatron engaging in a fierce melee battle on the hull of the ship, and just as Megatron fires a huge cannon at Optimus, Bumblebee throws himself forwards, taking the shot meant for Prime. As Bumblebee falls, Optimus lifts his body...

===Chapter II: Defend the Ark===
:''Character: Optimus Prime''
Six days earlier, the Autobots are preparing the last transport for launch. [[Ironhide (WFC)|Ironhide]] reports the energon reserves are aboard, and Perceptor is overseeing city shutdown, only for the news to come that the Decepticons have invaded the city. Optimus tries to contact [[Grimlock (WFC)|Grimlock]], as it's his sector the Decepticons have invaded, but gets no answer. As Prime moves to head out, a [[Warp Cannon]] crashes to the ground nearby and targets the Ark. Optimus heads through the [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]] ruins and enters Autobot City through a side door to find the Autobots trying to get the city stable without the absent Grimlock. After helping Ratchet stabilize a badly-injured [[Silverbolt (WFC)|Silverbolt]], Prime sends [[Jazz (WFC)|Jazz]] to find where Grimlock's disappeared to. At the armory, [[Warpath (WFC)|Warpath]] reports that [[Perceptor (Prime)|Perceptor]] and others are trapped in a nerve center, so he and Optimus fight their way there. After fighting off a horde of Decepticons, they unseal the [[detpak]] from the nerve center door. Sending Warpath back to the Ark, Optimus goes in to meet with Perceptor, who's struggling to get the city working again so they can fight off the Decepticons. He sends Prime to activate an old artillery gun using energon from the Ark, and Prime soon puts the weapon to good use taking out Decepticons. With news that the Warp Cannons are firing on the Ark, Optimus heads to the engine room, but as he moves towards the flight deck, the corridors restructure around him. Decepticons, including [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]], have invaded the area, and Optimus finds many bodies, but heads for the [[neutron cannon]]. After fighting his way through more Decepticons, he brings the neutron gun online, but again the targeting is out. Optimus takes manual control and helps defend the Ark refueling station from a number of Decepticon tanks. When the cannon runs out of energon, Optimus heads back inside the city and is guided by a mysterious intelligence to the city's core where he pulls a lever... and the entire city transforms into [[Metroplex (FOC)|Metroplex]].

===Chapter III: Metroplex Heeds the Call===

:''Character: Optimus Prime''
Optimus and Metroplex head for the Iacon ruins where the Warp Cannons are located. Once they find the first Warp Cannon, Metroplex laboriously synchronizes his targeting systems with Optimus and together they take out the first cannon. Moving on, Prime helps the survivors of a crashed Autobot ship and finds Warpath in a huge plaza. With the second Warp Cannon shelling them, they head into a building and manage to get close enough to the cannon for Optimus to mark it for destruction by Metroplex. That done, Optimus heads down more corridors and is confronted by three Leapers, which Metroplex handily takes out by putting a fist through the wall. After fighting his way across a huge bridge, Prime gets close enough to the last Warp Cannon to mark it, only for it to take out Metroplex first. With no other choice, Optimus makes his way to the base of the cannon and forces open a door, only to be blasted by Starscream, bashed by Brawl and Onslaught, and dragged in front of Megatron. While Starscream gloats at his victory over Prime, Megatron simply blasts his Air Commander before killing an Autobot in front of the bound Prime. Luckily it turns out Metroplex is back online, and he rips the roof off Megatron's throne room before smashing Megatron into the ground repeatedly with his fist. Starscream pronounces Megatron dead, himself leader and orders the Decepticons back to base. The day is won, but unfortunately all the Autobots' energon is exhausted and they need to find more. Prime believes Grimlock may hold the key, and says Jazz and [[Cliffjumper (WFC)|Cliffjumper]] are tracking down their missing comrade.

===Chapter IV: Eye of the Storm===
:''Character: Cliffjumper''
[[Sideswipe (WFC)|Sideswipe]] drops Jazz and Cliffjumper off over the [[Rust Sea|Sea of Rust]] in the middle of a rust storm to look for Grimlock. In a ruined base, they find a crashed ship which they recognize as one that was stolen by Grimlock from the base. They soon spot Decepticons moving around and sneak inside the base. As they stealthily make their way through, they overhear some Decepticons discussing [[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]] and his "pets". Using a garbage conveyor, Cliffjumper finds himself in an ancient tomb where guardians are roaming around, scanning for Autobots. Jazz reports the rust storm is increasing in intensity outside. Cliffjumper finds a [[ancient map room|huge domed room]] and activates a starmap that shows him an image of [[Earth]]. Continuing through the tomb, Cliffjumper finds more Decepticons, plus sword marks and a trail of destruction he recognizes as Grimlock's work. Eventually he reaches outside again and spots Jazz, but a collapse cuts them off from each other. Cliff hunts through the storm and finds Jazz, freeing his companion from some fallen debris. They soon find more devastation and Jazz detects a faint Autobot distress signal which Cliffjumper tracks to a huge pit, just as the Decepticons seal it. Luckily the two Autobots find a huge bomb they use to blow the pit open and, leaving Cliffjumper behind, Jazz leaps in.

[[File:FOC-Jazzvsinsecticons.jpg|thumb|left|upright=1.67|"Gary?" "Gary!" "Gary?" "Gary!" "Gary!"]]

===Chapter V: Cut and Run===
:''Character: Jazz''
Jazz reaches the bottom of the pit, where he discovers [[Sludge (FOC)|Sludge]], who has been so badly damaged he's been forced into [[stasis lock]]. The audio he plays back from Sludge's memory is not promising. The meaning of the green pods Jazz spots is clear when he finds himself under attack by the [[Insecticon (WFC)|Insecticon]] horde. He blasts a tank which releases a toxic green gas, and he has to race to escape in time. Escaping the pit, he seals it and pair continue to look for the source of the distress signal. They stumble on a huge lake filled with energon which the Decepticons are mining. They fight their way across the moat to the Decepticon facility where Cliffjumper promptly manages to trip an alarm. Jazz utilizes a network of service tunnels, but creeping down one of them, he falls through a grating and is ambushed. Naturally he fights the Decepticons off and even helps out Cliffjumper who's pinned down by Wall Crawlers and other Decepticons. The pair rendezvous at the other side of the moat and head inside the tower. Within, they find Insecticons in tubes and a map pointing to Earth's solar system. Intriguing! Further in, they find Shockwave arguing with Starscream via hologram. Cliffjumper fails to creep up on Shockwave, who sets a bunch of Insecticons on them before leaving. While Jazz keeps the Insecticons busy, Cliffjumper diverts toxic waste into the refinery to make it overload. The refinery starts to melt down and the pair book out, getting picked up by Sideswipe just in time. Jazz contacts Optimus with the news there's a lake of energon ripe for the taking. The Autobots begin preparing a massive energon transport to take the energon to the Ark.

===Chapter VI: Death from Above===
:''Character: Vortex''
The Decepticons get wind of the Autobot plan, and as the transport heads back with a load of energon, Starscream tasks the [[Combaticon (WFC)|Combaticon]]s with intercepting it and leading it to an ambush. [[Vortex (FOC)|Vortex]] and [[Blast Off (FOC)|Blast Off]] are sent to clear a short-cut so Brawl can take a dropship and destroy a bridge. They fly through an ancient Autobot city. The pair run into Autobots though, and Blast Off ends up racing ahead, leaving Vortex to fight them. They eventually reach the bridge, but when Brawl shells it, they find it's shielded. Vortex deactivates the shielding, allowing Brawl to take out the side supports. The central support is a little trickier, and Brawl has to blow a hole in it so Vortex can get in to find the shield controls. After fighting more Autobots, including a Titan, Vortex uses a detpak on the central support and races out as the bridge collapses.

===Chapter VII: Belly of the Beast===
:''Character: Swindle''
Starscream springs his ambush on the transport, but the transport's defenses blast them. Onslaught exasperatedly sends [[Swindle (FOC)|Swindle]] under the transport to try to stop it. Swindle takes out the rear wheels and heads to the front, using his grapple to avoid the deadly acid pools, and takes out the front wheels. This unleashes a pair of titans which he has to destroy. However just as victory looks certain, the transport's wheels convert into jets. As the transport takes to the air, Swindle grapples on board.

[[File:FOC-Bruticus-Game.jpg|thumb|right|upright=1.67|"Get the Fat Man! I'll try to keep him busy!"]]

===Chapter VIII: Combaticons Combine!===
:''Character: Swindle/Bruticus''
Within the transport, Swindle begins heading through the transport, aiming to take out the anti-aircraft defenses so the other Combaticons can come over in their drop ship. He blows a hole in an exterior wall and starts making his way along the side of the transport. Starscream announces he's calling off the assault, but is corrected by Onslaught, who still believes they can pull it off. Swindle finds the anti-aircraft cannons can be destroyed by simply shooting the shells being fed into them, so he does that, then moves around to the other side of the ship. Unfortunately the Autobots are wise to what the Decepticons are doing and destroy the controls for the shell feed shields so Swindle can't deactivate them. Onslaught brings the drop ship around, and Swindle hops on. Once he uses the top turret to destroy the last gun emplacement, the Combaticons merge into [[Bruticus (WFC)|Bruticus]] and start breaking things. He smashes through the transports turbine and break into the control room where the Combaticons split and make swift work of the Autobots. Unfortunately though they have the transport in their control, it's badly damaged and going down, and they can do little more than try to control its course as it crashes. Starscream's unimpressed that they managed to destroy half the energon supply in the crash, and when Onslaught talks back, pointing that the Autobots would have gotten all of it if they did nothing and everything going wrong was a result of Starscream's incompetence, Starscream orders the Combaticons arrested.

===Chapter IX: Megatron Returns===
:''Character: [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]]/Megatron''
In his [[Soundwave's workshop|old workshop]] under the gladiator pits, Soundwave powers up the assembly systems so he can put Megatron's salvaged body back together. With the help of his minions, he manages to get Megatron back in one piece and uses an infusion of [[Dark Energon]] to bring his master back to life. Megatron's enraged by the news Starscream is in charge and, grabbing his cannon, heads out to confront his former lieutenant. He arrives, naturally, in the middle of Starscream's coronation. Starscream sets the assembled Decepticons onto their former leader, but as Megatron points out, he was practically forged in these arenas. Once he finishes with the many, many Decepticons, he blasts Starscream who flees. Onslaught offers to chase them down, but Megatron doesn't consider him a threat and has other plans. As the Decepticons move a huge statue of him into pride of place, Megatron meets with Shockwave who has deciphered the ancient technology to open wormholes and located a suitably energy rich planet for them to plunder. Megatron boards a drop ship and heads for the crater where [[Trypticon (WFC)|Trypticon]] crashed with the intention of recovering the giant Decepticon's power core. Unfortunately his drop ship is shot down on the way.

===Chapter X: The Final Countdown===
:''Character: Megatron''
Jumping clear of the ship, Megatron notes that the Autobots have installed anti-aircraft defenses. Once the Decepticons assault the facility and take it over, Soundwave detects a power source nearby—the Autobots are using Trypticon's power core as an energy source, which left Megatron impressed by their rather bold choice. Megatron goes on to investigate and takes out the defenses surrounding the main compound before calling in Bruticus to clear a path. The Combiner makes short work of the remaining Autobots and holds the massive doors open so Megatron can enter. After emptying the main compound of Autobots, he enters the main building where some Autobots are reporting to Optimus. Megatron slags them and makes it clear he blames Optimus for [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]'s depleted state. The Autobots redouble their attempts to keep Megatron away, but as he gets closer to Trypticon, he realizes that the Autobots haven't removed the power core—Trypticon is still functional. Fighting through more Autobot defenses, including a titan, Megatron gets to Trypticon's legs and finds they've been bound. A few shots of Megatron's cannon free them. Trypticon's torso is similarly easy to find, with a little help from Laserbeak. Once Megatron breaks Trypticon's bonds, Soundwave arrives and hacks the computer while Megatron smashes the Autobots attacking them. Trypticon, however, is still badly damaged. Megatron informs Trypticon that he failed to destroy the Autobots and will be rebuilt into a new form—the ''Nemesis''.

[[File:FOC-theonecalledGrimlock.jpg|left|thumb|upright=1.67|"You and I have a chance to make our country a better place for all of us. I'd like you to make sure that chance isn't wasted."]]

===Chapter XI: Starscream's Betrayal===
:''Characters: Decepticon trooper/Starscream/Grimlock''
As the Nemesis nears launch, the Decepticons are roused by an alarm as someone tries to hack Shockwave's data logs. A trooper and his friend are sent to check the main server. As the two troopers enter the server, they discuss Starscream's humiliating defeat, only for Starscream himself to decloak and flatten them. Hoping to build an army of his own, Starscream analyzes the data logs and discovers that Shockwave's latest experiments are imprisoned within the tower. He uses EMP detpaks to take out the security towers providing the defenses, which knocks out the [[force field]]s protecting the maintenance shafts. Flying inside, he finds Shockwave experimenting on Grimlock with [[Hardshell]], [[Kickback (FOC)|Kickback]], and [[Sharpshot]]. Once they leave, Starscream drops into the lab and informs Grimlock he'll be set free if he pledges allegiance to the Air Commander. Grimlock responds that he can free himself, then throws Starscream into a wall. Grimlock's surgically altered body leaves him confused and unable to transform, and before long he searches for [[Swoop (WFC)|Swoop]] by smashing everything in his path. He finds Swoop, only to be confronted by a hologram of Shockwave, who has predicted this move. After destroying all the Decepticons in the lab, he solves the problem of freeing Swoop by smashing more things. Swoop reveals that he has gained a new [[alternate mode]], although Grimlock still cannot transform. The pair search for the rest of their team, and discover more of Shockwave's experiments—Insecticons in tubes—and Swoop remembers where [[Slug (FOC)|Slug]] is. Unfortunately Hardshell is waiting for them with some artillery, and Grimlock has to throw fuel pods at him until the ship's destroyed. Grimlock holds the Insecticon up to the optical scanner so they can progress. When they reach the surgical lab, it's totally trashed and there's a big hole in the floor. Grimlock and Swoop jump in.

===Chapter XII: Grimlock Smash===
:''Character: Grimlock/Swoop''
Beneath the lab, the ground gives way under Grimlock, dropping him into a tunnel, and he decides they'll split up to find Slug. He soon finds the area is infested with Insecticons. Shockwave's voice rings out, telling Grimlock that he has yet to fulfill his full potential and transform, and Kickback has volunteered to help. The Insecticon taunts Grimlock and unleashes a huge "bruiser" Insecticon to fight him, causing Grimlock to get angry enough to finally change into his new ''T. rex'' alternate mode. Kickback decides discretion is the better part of not being slagged, but before he can escape, the door crashes down on him as Slug enters. Slug relates the news that Sludge didn't make it out of the caves, and [[Snarl (FOC)|Snarl]]'s been taken by Shockwave for "extensive testing". As they step outside where Swoop is waiting, they see Shockwave's [[space bridge]] tower firing up. They soon track down Snarl being guarded by Sharpshot and squash his captor. Searching for a place to take shelter and patch up Snarl, they find an observatory and Slug discovers Shockwave's plans to open a space bridge portal. They contact Optimus, who orders Grimlock to return to base, but Grimlock insists on taking the space bridge himself. With Swoop's help, he flies to the tower and fights his way through more Decepticons until he finds Shockwave working. As he goes to attack Shockwave, he's seized by energy chains, while Shockwave reports to Megatron that all is ready. Grimlock switches to dino mode to break free and rips Shockwave's arm off before bashing the space bridge which explodes. Back in Autobot City, the Autobots note that Megatron's portal is becoming unstable and decide they must urgently launch. Metroplex offers whatever spark energy he has left, which allows the Autobots to launch the Ark, at the cost of Metroplex's life.

===Chapter XIII: Till All Are One===
:''Characters: Soundwave/Jetfire/Bruticus/Jazz/Optimus/Megatron''
The ''Nemesis'' draws close to the ''Ark'' as it nears the portal. Megatron orders Soundwave to lead the first wave of the assault. Soundwave rides a tow cable over and, with the help of Rumble and Laserbeak, neutralizes the Ark's cannons. The Decepticons begin their assault en masse. [[Jetfire (WFC)|Jetfire]] flies outside and severs the tow cables, but even though he's successful, Bruticus flies right past him and lands on the hull of the ''Ark''. After smashing his way through the Autobot defenses, he busts the ship's main energon tank. Jetfire raises the alarm, and Jazz responds. He tries grappling onto Bruticus and shooting the giant in the face, but with the help of Jetfire and an EMP mine, the Autobots hit Bruticus with a series of air strikes, sending him flying off into space. Elsewhere, Bumblebee jumps in the path of Megatron's shot, saving Optimus. Enraged, Optimus punches Megatron across the hull and they face off once again. Their fight is eventually interrupted by the unstable space bridge portal sucking them and both starships in before closing.
==Quotes==
"Metroplex heeds the call of the last Prime"
:—'''Metroplex''' assures Optimus that he's not there to render him into his component molecules.

"This is needless. All we want is to leave!"<br>
"No one leaves without ''my'' permission!"<br>
"''I wasn't asking''."
:—What '''Optimus Prime''' thought would be the last time he would have to tell '''Megatron''' how it was.

"Cliffjumper, you catch any of that?"<br>
"You mean the screaming, the horror, followed by more screaming?"<br>
"Uh, yeah, that'd be it."
:—'''Jazz''' and '''Cliffjumper''' discuss what they heard from Sludge's memory core.

"Ungh! This lever is heavy! Couldn't they just make it a button?"
:—'''Vortex''' makes a valid point.

"Ugh, great, it's spooky dark down here!"<br>
"You're afraid of the dark?!"<br>
"Well, it does make it hard to see!"<br>
:—'''Vortex''' and '''Brawl''' bicker like a bunch of kids.

"Seriously?! We're still trying to stop this thing with drop ships? I haven't stopped the AA guns yet!"<br>
"Think of this as an encouragement to HURRY THE SCRAP UP!"
:—'''Swindle''' and '''Onslaught'''

"Always tinkering, aren't you, Shockwave? Must be quite the test!"
:—'''Starscream''', after hearing Shockwave and the Insecticons discuss experiments on Grimlock.

"Nothing feels right... Hard to think."
:—'''Grimlock''', shortly after breaking free.

"I remember you, Grimlock. Do you remember me? Me? Me?"<br>
"''Kickback''..."
:—'''Kickback''' taunts '''Grimlock''' to provoke him into transforming.

'''Kickback''': Time for me to take my leave!<br>
''[Slug knocks the door down on Kickback]'' <br>
'''Slug''': Excuse me.
:—[[The Transformers: The Movie|Never gets old]], '''Slug'''.

'''Slug''': You cut through those guys like they were [[Beryllium baloney|Beryllium Bologna]]!<br>
'''Grimlock''': You mean [[Cesium salami|Cesium Salami]]!<br>
'''Slug''': No...Beryllium Bologna!<br>
'''Grimlock''': Cesium Salami!
:—[[The Transformers: The Movie|Again with this argument, guys?]]

"You're weak, Optimus. You run when you should fight!"
:—'''Grimlock''' gives Optimus a piece of his mind.

"Pathetic! This is the so called Ark? The Autobots have placed all of their hopes on a glorified cargo hauler!"
:—'''Megatron''' gives his two cents about the Ark.

"No problem! It slices, it dices!"
:—'''Bruticus''', your Swindle's showing.

"After eons of conflict, I finally see the truth of your words, Megatron."<br>
"And what might that be, Optimus?"<br>
''[Megatron swings his sword, only for Optimus to stop his strike]''<br>
"This universe, no matter how vast, will never be big enough for you and I to coexist!"<br>
''[Optimus punches Megatron across the Ark]''
:—'''Optimus Prime''' tells '''Megatron''' that he's done holding back.

==Gameplay==
Like ''War for Cybertron'', this game is an over-the-shoulder third-person shooter. The player has access to a range of weapons split between light and heavy and can carry one of each class at a time. As one would expect from a ''Transformers'' game, the player character can also transform to [[alternate mode|vehicle mode]] which provides more maneuverability and in some cases the power of flight. Whereas in the previous game, characters had two abilities that were charged up by shooting opponents, each character now has "dash" and a unique ability that works on a time recharge. Abilities include Vortex's shockwave, Cliffjumper's cloaking, and Optimus Prime's ability to order a missile strike.

While ''War for Cybertron'' had three-bot teams in each campaign level, with the user playing as their choice of the three, ''Fall of Cybertron'' instead follows a single character at a time, though the character often teams up with other NPCs. This allows levels to be tailored to the player character's special abilities, such as Jazz's level having plenty of places to use his grapple, and Megatron's levels having places which are only reachable by hovering. The player will sometimes also automatically switch between characters as the narrative demands.

''Fall of Cybertron'' introduces an upgrade mechanic. The player collects energon from defeated opponents which they can use at [[Teletraan-1 (WFC)|Teletraan-1]] machines scattered throughout the levels to buy character upgrades, T.E.C.H. items such as [[C.L.U.T.C.H.]] drones, and weapon upgrades. Upgrades carry over between characters, so Megatron gets the benefit of upgrades purchased by Optimus Prime. Collecting the blueprints hidden in each level unlocks more upgrades or weapons. Also hidden throughout the levels are [[Source:Fall of Cybertron audio logs|audio logs]], recordings left by various characters which give extra information or insight into an aspect of the game world. Energon can be used to open [[Armory Recreator]]s, which contain weapons and equipment.

Grimlock's sections alter the game mechanics substantially. He has no ranged attack, relying on melee with his sword. Rather than gaining currency from defeating Decepticons, their deaths fill his "rage meter", eventually allowing him to transform to his dino mode that lets him use his [[fire-breath]] and jaws to wreak more havoc. Similarly, Bruticus behaves like a melee brawler, fighting with a mix of weaponry like Vortex's propellers, a flamethrower, and the [[Sonic Pain Wave]].

===Multiplayer===
Fall of Cybertron follows War for Cybertron's tradition in having a fleshed-out, online multiplayer mode. The general idea is the same, but quite a number of gameplay elements have been added, removed, or altered. For example, vehicle mode abilities have been removed, but every character has the ability to dash. Weapons are also exclusive to each class and can't be wielded by other players.

Players can create custom characters to participate in the regular multiplayer mode. Customization options are greatly expanded from the previous game: Individual heads, bodies/[[Alternate mode|alt-modes]], shoulders, arms, legs, and wheels can be selected, all based on existing character models. The color palette is also expanded, and players can alter the shininess of characters and choose from three different voices per faction.

Characters level up by performing well in battle. Completing challenges will also yield experience points. Class weapons and abilities become unlocked by reaching certain levels. Reaching level 25 in every class unlocks "Prime Mode," which resets all experience points and challenges and gives the player a cool spinny icon next to their name. Reaching level 25 for all classes in Prime Mode grants the player access to "Elite" heads, which are 4 heads per class, and are the most iconic character of the class (Bumblebee, Optimus, Starscream and Megatron) with a crown.

Finally, [[Energon shard]]s can be gained along with experience points and can be spent on custom body parts and decals.

;Classes
The four classes return, with some alterations:
*[[Infiltrator (FOC)|Infiltrators]] - Cars. Fast, with an emphasis on stealth. Replaces the [[Scout (WFC)|Scout]] class.
*[[Destroyer (FOC)|Destroyers]] - Trucks. Mixture of defensive and offensive abilities, with emphasis on explosions. Replaces the [[Leader (WFC)|Leader]] class.
*[[Titan (FOC)|Titans]] - Tanks. Huge health and defense, heavy weapons. Replaces the [[Soldier (WFC)|Soldier]] class.
*[[Scientist (WFC)|Scientists]] - Jets. Great speed, no armor, emphasis on healing and buffer abilities.

;Playlists
*Team Death Match - [[Fred Tatasciore|''ELIMINATE THE ENEMY TEAM!'']] Kills count as points for the player's team, and 40 points are required to win on default settings.
*Conquest - There are 3 nodes, A, B and C. Team members wait at nodes to fill a bar and capture the node, and all teams are competing constantly for the nodes. The possession of a node adds points, and the rate at which points are added is increased based on how many nodes the team has. The match ends once a team reaches 400 points.
*Headhunter - This match is very similar to Team Deathmatch, except killed enemies drop their [[Spark]]. Players must pick up these sparks and return them to teamless nodes to gain a point per spark. These nodes occasionally move, the approaching change signaled by beacons that mark their location, which flash when nodes are about to move.
*Capture the Flag - Both teams have flags in their base. Players must protect their own flag and capture the enemy flag. Each capture grants a point, and the amount of points required for a team to win is 3.
* Deathmatch: Kill opponents to win. It's a free-for-all. (Check the notes)

;Teletraan-1
The signature Autobot computer here lets the player sift through global player rankings and see the challenges they have completed. Prime Mode is also activated through this menu.

;Escalation
Up to 4 players face off against increasingly difficult waves. Once the players finish wave 15, the game ends and the players are scored on how many kills, deaths, and energon chips they collected throughout the match.

==Trophy/Achievement list==
When completing various goals and tasks during the game, the player will be rewarded as part of their console of choice's meta-goal system. Players can earn up to 51 Trophies on PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4, and 50 Achievements on the Xbox 360 and Xbox One. The PlayStation versions' trophies come in four types: Bronze, which represent easier tasks and are worth the least experience; Silver, which are awarded for challenges of mid-level difficulty; Gold, which are given for harder tasks and worth more experience; and Platinum, the highest-level trophy unlocked only after earning all of a game's other trophies. On the Xbox versions, each achievement has a Gamerscore value that adds to the player's total Gamerscore across all games played; up to 1000 Gamerscore can be earned in ''Fall of Cybertron''. These achievements can also be earned in the PC version as part of the Steam interface, but lack the individual values and weights from the console versions.
==Transformers references==
Aside from the obvious G1 inspired character designs, the game has some references to previous iterations of Transformers, a number of them from [[The Transformers (cartoon)|the original cartoon]] and [[The Transformers: The Movie|the 1986 movie]].

* Most of the achievements and trophies are named in homage to Generation 1, such as characters, cartoon episodes, [[The Transformers (Marvel comic)|Marvel comic]] issues, and more. Due to the sheer number, we have opted to list them in the achievement list above instead.
* Soundwave does a short impression of a light fixture.
* Jazz and Cliffjumper are paired together, just as they were in the film and in the episode [[Starscream's Brigade]].
* Jazz finds an inscription on a tank in the Sea of Rust that says "IX-XVII-MCMLXXXIV," or the date that "[[More than Meets the Eye, Part 1]]" first aired.
* During his coronation, Starscream is wearing the same crown his [[Starscream (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Generation 1 counterpart]] wore in the movie, and the dialogue he has with Megatron during the scene is almost word-for-word as well. He even blasts him in tank mode, though this does not kill him like it did in the movie. The crown can be found in Starscream's level and worn for its duration.
* When Megatron is done killing off soldiers under Starscream's command, Starscream calls Megatron a [[Pretender to the Throne!|pretender to the throne]].
* When Kickback runs to the door, Slug pushes it from outside and the door falls, smashing Kickback to the ground and when Slug sees Kickback under the door, he says "Excuse me!". This is a straight homage to the scene where [[Slag (G1)|Slag]] pushes the door and it smashes the [[Quintesson]] prosecutor.
* A secret room can be found in Grimlock's level containing his waiter outfit from "[[Madman's Paradise]]"; upon finding it, Grimlock utters his famous movie quote, "Me Grimlock no bozo, me king." It also contains three swords that resemble the [[Master Sword]] mounted on fixtures around the room.
* After defeating a group of Insecticons, Slug says that Grimlock tore through them like they were "[[beryllium baloney]]", but Grimlock says "[[cesium salami]]", mirroring the scene where their Generation 1 counterparts argue on [[Quintessa (planet)|Quintessa]].
* In an audio log left by [[Sideswipe (WFC)|Sideswipe]], the ''[[Ark (WFC)|Ark]]'' is described as [[Vanguard-class Deep Space Interceptor]], a term which originated in [[Transformers: The Ultimate Guide]].
* The five [[Dinobot (FOC)|Dinobot]]s are originally grouped together as the "[[Lightning Strike Coalition]]", the name of [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]]'s breakaway Autobot faction in ''[[Transformers: War Within: The Dark Ages]]''. On that note, the Coalition's logo serves as the difficulty symbols.
* The [[Path Blaster]] is named for the [[Pathblaster]] from "[[Time Wars]]". One of its modifications is named for Generation 1 episode "[[The Gambler]]" and involves the use of [[Destronium]], a substance introduced in ''[[Transformers Animated (cartoon)|Transformers Animated]]''.
* The [[Riot Cannon]]'s "Planet Buster" modification is likewise named after the [[Planet Buster]] that appeared in the ''[[Beast Wars: Transformers (cartoon)|Beast Wars]]'' cartoon.
* The [[neutron assault rifle]]'s special modification is the "P.O.K.E. Beta"—not the first [[Punch of Kill Everything]] reference in the game series.
* One of the corrosive slime cannon's modifications for multiplayer is the [[Cosmic Rust (disease)|Cosmic Rust]] Disperser.
* Other weapon modifications available include [[tachyon transmitter]], [[fireblast]], [[turbo booster]]s, [[unspace|transwarp]] ballistics, and [[R-infinity accelerator|R-Infinity]] finders.
* Bruticus's special attack is the [[Sonic Pain Wave]], one of the [[Transformers: Robots in Disguise (2001 franchise)|2001 ''Robots in Disguise'' franchise]] [[Megatron (RID)|Megatron]]'s weapons.
* When Cliffjumper is accessing the Teletraan-1 store one of the random phrases apologizes for not being able to provide [[glass gas]], the unique weapon of G1 [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper]]. The Glass Gas Cannon is awarded, however, after beating the main campaign.
* In Chapter IX, playing as Megatron after his awakening Soundwave says "Less talk, more work", quoting the G1 episode "[[Megatron's Master Plan, Part 2]]".
As part of the expanding [[Aligned continuity family|Aligned continuity]], ''Fall of Cybertron'' also incorporates thematic and visual references to the ''[[Transformers: Exodus]]'' novel and the ''[[Transformers: Prime (cartoon)|Transformers: Prime]]'' television series:
* Bumblebee's voice circuits/vocal processor having been damaged prior to the story's beginning, essentially rendering him mute.
* Optimus Prime's [[Path Blaster|rifle]] design, which was described by [[High Moon Studios]] as being an earlier version of the rifles Optimus uses in the ''Prime'' television series.
* Optimus being referred to as having been a librarian named Orion Pax and Megatron having been a gladiator from Kaon named Megatronus.
* Cliffjumper's head design and Megatron's reformatted/rebuilt body design.
* Dark Energon's power to revive the dead is an aspect from the ''Prime'' television series that was not seen in the previous game, ''War For Cybertron''.
* Trypticon being reformatted into the ''Nemesis''.
* The discovery that there were [[Ancient]]s who had traveled to other planets, particularly Earth.
* One of the weapons is called an [[Energon Harvester]].

==PC version notes==
Initially, developer High Moon Studios commented (as late as [[BotCon 2012]] on the end of April of that year) that there would not be a Windows PC version of ''Fall for Cybertron'' due to their own lack of experience with the PC platform and the criticism the PC version of ''War for Cybertron'' had received. However, shortly before the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) 2012 in early June, publisher Activision announced a PC version of the game, to be developed by [[Mercenary Technology]], a new studio formed by "veterans of the industry".

The PC version of ''Fall of Cybertron'' improves upon the console versions of ''Fall'' (and indeed the PC version of ''War for Cybertron'') by featuring higher quality graphics, higher resolution textures, runs at 1080p resolution and 60 frames per second (versus 30 frames for the console version). Unfortunately, as is standard in most console game ports, the graphical settings are lacking and the controls cannot be reset/rebound.

Even with these pros and cons, there is still a number of differences from the console and PC versions:
* The main menu background in the PC version is a still image, rather than the long, beautiful cutscene file that is used in the console versions. The cutscene is unused in the PC files, but there currently is no way to put it back in the game.
* The VGA trailer isn't in the PC version of the game. It's not selectable in the Movies section of the Extras menu, not played when you idle on the main menu long enough, and isn't in any of the PC version files. This issue isn't present in the console versions, so that's a complete bummer!
* Jetfire's mouth doesn't move in the PC version when transitioning to Bruticus in the final level.
* Though the prompts appear, you cannot pet Laserbeak in the PC version.

==Toys inspired by this game==
[[File:Generationstoy-OptimusPrimeFOC.jpg|right|thumb|250px|Deluxe Optimus Prime]]
{{main|Transformers: Generations (toyline)#FOC}}
A [[subline imprint]] for ''Fall of Cybertron'' characters was introduced to the 2012 ''[[Transformers: Generations (toyline)|Transformers: Generations]]'' line-up. In contrast with the [[Transformers: War for Cybertron (franchise)#Toys|relatively few toys]] released in 2010 to tie into ''War for Cybertron'', the ''Fall of Cybertron'' subline was significantly more extensive, featuring figures across multiple different size classes and even a fully-fledged combiner with [[Bruticus (WFC)#Toys|Bruticus]].

A full list of all the figures released under the ''Fall of Cybertron'' subline can be found [[Transformers: Generations (toyline)#FOC|here]].

==Notes==
* This game, like its predecessor, plays a Stan Bush song at the end, this time being a slightly modified version of "[[The Touch]]", using elements from both the 2007 and 2009 versions to create a unique hybrid of the two. Soundwave plays it, while Bumblebee dances "The Carlton Dance," made famous by {{w|Alfonso Ribeiro}} on ''{{w|The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air}}'', which is also performed in the game by the [[Lever Transformer]] hidden in Chapter V.
* One of the unlocks for beating the game is the Glass Gas Cannon, however, Teletraan still tells Cliffjumper during replays that it is not available.
* In Chapter VIII, a {{w|Wilhelm scream}} can be heard when Bruticus is attacking the Autobots.
* If Grimlock is recreated in any multiplayer mode, his T-rex alt mode will function differently than the campaign mode, behaving more like a typical vehicle mode.
* In an unfortunate oversight, the downloadable demo for the game is the first section of Chapter VI, in which one can find an audio log that blows the surprise of Megatron's death earlier in the game. Oops.
* Sludge's model is noted to have been set up for skeletal deformation; which would only be needed if the character had needed to transform in-game. The model also sports beast kibble, so Sludge may have initially had a bigger role in the story mode than what he had in the final game; either that, or he was intended to be a usable model in Multiplayer.
* Unlike its predecessor ''War for Cybertron'', ''Fall of Cybertron'' has not been dubbed in languages other than English.
* Some backstory elements are expanded upon in [[Transformers: Fall of Cybertron Logs]] for the iPhone.
* The [[2011]] cinematic trailer for the game features the song "The Humbling River" by {{w|Puscifer}}. The [[2012]] trailers feature a cover by The EverLove of the song "{{w|Cities in Dust}}" (originally written by {{w|Siouxsie and the Banshees}}).
*The game was "''remastered''" in August 8th, 2016 for the PS4 and Xbox One in Australia, and on August 9th in America. However, like with High Moon's other "''remastered''" game, {{w|Deadpool_(video_game)#Removal_and_eighth-generation_ports|Deadpool}}, it's a rather basic port with a select few minor textures given a bump in resolution and updated button icons (not even a framerate boost!). Thankfully, All DLC is unlocked.
**Unlike the Deadpool remaster, however, this version of the game was never sold physically, and is currently unattainable through official means.

==Errors==
*When Soundwave looks at Megatron's arm after he has been crushed by Metroplex, it is in the design of his upgraded body from later in the game, rather than the original one he just had.
*When Shockwave speaks to Grimlock just when the latter comes in to rescue Swoop, the subtitles say, "your attempt to "'you'" rescue your friend was easily predicted."
'''Stan Bush''' (born [[July 10]],[[1953]]) is an American rock musician, who performed the original songs "[[Dare]]" and "[[The Touch]]" for ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]'', and subsequently appeared in a music video for the latter song.

"The Touch" is heard twice during the movie, first when [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] begins his assault on the Decepticons, and again as [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]] opens the [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]]. The song was used again during the climactic scene of the cartoon episode "[[The Return of Optimus Prime, Part 2]]". "Dare" is also featured twice in the movie: first as Hot Rod and [[Daniel Witwicky (G1)|Daniel]] race back to [[Autobot City (G1)|Autobot City]], then when the Autobots crash their ship through [[Unicron]]'s eye. Both songs appear on ''[[The Transformers: The Movie - Original Motion Picture Soundtrack]]''.

Years later, Bush was tapped to write and perform an original song for the Transformers fan convention, [[BotCon]], which was called "Ground Zero".

He was a special guest at [[BotCon 1997]], where he performed a live concert with fellow ''The Transformers: The Movie'' musical alumnus [[Vince DiCola]] for the attendees. An exclusive two-disk CD featuring songs by both Bush and DiCola was available at this same convention. Ten years later he was a guest at [[BotCon 2007]], where he performed "[[Till All Are One (Transformers Theme)|'Til All Are One]]", which was based upon "Ground Zero".

[[File:StanBushTheTouchMusicVideoRecordLabelNotes.jpg|thumb|right|upright=1.4]]

At an undetermined time period following the creation of the [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmasters]] and [[Targetmaster (technology)|Targetmasters]] and the seeming defeat of [[Galvatron (G1)|Galvatron]] and [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]], [[Powermaster]] Optimus Prime spent a good deal of time relating Transformers stories to the human schoolboy [[Tommy Kennedy]].

After a series of stories wherein he described the events of the battle with [[Unicron]], Optimus Prime had to depart to attend an interstellar peace conference in the midst of a barrage of questions from Tommy. As he was blasting off, Prime declared "But until I return, I leave you with 'The Touch'!"

Following this, the music video for "The Touch" began, although how Tommy was able to view it in the barren wasteland where his meetings with Prime typically took place is unknown. {{storylink|The Transformers: The Movie#Day Five|Season 5: Movie, Day Five}}

{{note|As Stan Bush could not have written the song for the 1986 theatrical ''The Transformers: The Movie'' within the context of the cartoon timeline (as the events of the movie had not happened at that point in continuity), it is possible that the song was simply a general release that Prime was personally fond of. Another possibility is that a fictionalized film account of the events surrounding the battle with Unicron was created sometime after the year 2005, and that Stan Bush's music video was produced to accompany that feature. This theory is not out of the realm of plausibility; in the UK comics, resident letter answerer [[Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock]] reviewed a ''Transformers'' film in an article entitled "[[Letters page (Marvel UK)|Film 2006 With Grimlock]]".}}
==Notes==
* Within ''The Touch'' music video itself, Stan Bush's guitar is shown to fire lasers via special effects. However, it is possible that Bush's guitar could in fact fire lasers in cartoon continuity. I mean, why not?
* Bush launched a campaign to have "The Touch" included on either Guitar Hero or Rock Band.<ref>[http://kotaku.com/5059337/stan-bush-wants-the-touch-in-guitar-hero-rock-band Stan Bush Wants "The Touch" In Guitar Hero, Rock Band] on Kotaku</ref> A few months later he announced the campaign's success, with "The Touch" hitting Guitar Hero: World Tour as free downloadable content.<ref>[http://kotaku.com/5173693/stan-bush-thanks-kotaku-readers-for-their-support Stan Bush Thanks Kotaku Readers For Their Support] on Kotaku</ref>
* As part of the media hype building up to the release of [[Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (film)|''Revenge of the Fallen'']], Bush released a reworked version of "The Touch" with a more modern, [[Linkin Park]]-inspired sound. This is notable because, while completely unsanctioned or unrequested by Hasbro or DreamWorks, it is [[Holger Fath|totally hilarious]].
* In 2010, Bush released the album 'Dream the Dream', which featured the song "Sam's Theme (The Touch)", a rap-less version of "The Touch: Sam's Theme".
*Another variant of "Sam's Theme (The Touch)" played during the credits of the 2012 game [[Transformers: Fall of Cybertron (video game)|Transformers Fall of Cybertron]]
* A special thanks message during ''[[Transformers: War for Cybertron (360/PS3/PC)|Transformers: War for Cybertron]]''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s end credits claims that the developers families "rock like Stan Bush", accompanied by [[Till All Are One (Transformers Theme)|Till All Are One]]. Whether or not said family members possess laser-firing guitars has yet to be determined.
[[Nemesis Prime (G1)|Nemesis Prime]] steals the [[Artifacts of the Primes]], hoping to claim their power for his own. ==Gameplay==
''Galactic Trials'' is a "battle-race" game that mixes arcade-style racing with third-person shooter mechanics. Players can choose from 11 playable characters and 10 battle-race tracks, attempting to defeat their opponents by destroying them and/or reaching the finish line first. Characters automatically change modes at predetermined points on each track, switching between high speed racing in vehicle mode and combat in robot mode. By performing techniques such as drifting and boosting during race segments, players will charge up [[energon]] that can be expended to trigger special moves in combat segments. Between races, players can equip different weapons and up to three relics, which grant additional perks during gameplay.

The game features two primary modes. The single-player Galactic Trials mode features level-based progression, through which players will obtain new relics, as well as unlock additional playable characters and skins. In Arcade mode, up to two players can compete locally in quick races, as well as enter special location-based tournaments. Each character has a "Legacy" skin and a gold-colored "Prestige" skin.

==Notes==
===Transformers references===
*Cybertron is based on its appearance in ''[[Transformers: Prime (franchise)|Prime]]''. Nemesis Prime's ship is also based on the ''Prime'' incarnation of the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)#Prime cartoon|Nemesis]]''.
*The Artifacts in this game are the [[Apex Armor (Prime)|Apex Armor]], [[Enigma of Combination]], [[Triptych Mask]], [[Lenses]], [[Emberstone]], [[Chimera Stone]], [[Transformation cog|Conversion Cog]], [[Liegian Darts]], [[Terminus Blade]], and [[Proton Spear]].
*Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Wheeljack, Elita-1, Megatron, Soundwave, Shockwave, and Nightbird's "Legacy" skins are based on their ''[[Transformers: Shattered Glass (franchise)|Shattered Glass]]'' counterparts (by extension, Wheeljack is based on Generation 1 [[Slicer (G1)|Slicer]], Elita-1 on [[Override (Cybertron)#GTS|''Cybertron'' Override GTS]], Soundwave on [[Soundwave (G1)/toys#Music Label|''Music Label'' Soundwave]], and Nightbird on [[Dust Up|''Combiner Wars'' Dust Up]]). Arcee and Flamewar's Legacy skins draw from their ''Prime'' counterparts and Nemesis Prime's is a reference to [[Optimus Prime (Movie)/toys#UKNightwatch|Nightwatch Optimus Prime]].
*Some of the names of weapons appear to be named after guns found in ''[[Transformers: Fall of Cybertron|Fall of Cybertron]]''.
*Despite being the Evergreen designs for the most part, Shockwave's alternate mode most closely resembles how he looks in ''[[Transformers: War for Cybertron (360/PS3/PC)|War for Cybertron]]'' and ''[[Transformers: Fall of Cybertron|Fall of Cybertron]]''.
==Notes==
* Tracks 1-5, 7, and 14 do not appear in the film, but instead are suites of themes used throughout the movie.
* The tracks used in the film are also slightly out of order, with "Trespaxxing" appearing at the very beginning and "Hidden Truth" appearing right after "The Ultimate Betrayal."
* As mentioned above, the soundtrack for this film repurposes a melody from the ''[[Transformers Prime]]'' score. Fittingly, it is used to represent the Thirteen Primes in this film, with its first appearance occurring at 3 minutes and 54 seconds into the title track. It later appears in "More Than Meets The Eye," "Resting Place of the Primes," and "The Fall".
* "The Fall" interpolates ''{{w|Dies irae}}'' ("Day of Wrath" in Latin), an oft-quoted four-note passage from {{w|Requiem|the Catholic Requiem Mass}}, which is often used to represent death or tragedy in film scores.
*A snippet of the glorious "Arrival to Earth" is also heard 2 minutes and 12 seconds into the title track.
*The end tune of "You're a Soldier Now" plays twice during "Starscream" as [[Optimus Prime (One) | Orion]] battles [[Tracker | Death Trackers]]. It plays for the first time at 2:29 and for the second time at 2:41.
*The tune "We Have to Go" from ''[[Transformers: The Last Knight]]'' also plays at various points in the soundtrack. This first appears at 1 minute and 45 seconds into the title track.
*A more recent tune can also be heard, which is "Autobots Enter" from ''[[Transformers: Rise of the Beasts]]'', at 5 minutes and 30 seconds into the title track.
*In the tune "The Fall" at 23 seconds and at 44 seconds you can hear the "Death of Optimus Prime" from ''[[The Transformers: The Movie]]''.

That shiny "chrome" plating on some [[Toy|Transformer toys]] is not applied by traditional electrical or dip plating, but by '''vacuum metallizing'''.

In this process, the part is placed in a chamber with most of the air pumped out. Metal vapor enters the chamber and condenses on the part to form a very thin and shiny metallic coating.

The most common metal used for this process is nearly-pure aluminum, which gives a "silvery" finish. To change its color to gold, red, or whatever is desired, a transparent, colored paint may be applied over the metallizing. A clear coat may be applied even if the metal's natural color is suitable, to protect the finish.

This metal coating, if made of a corrosion-prone metal like aluminum, may easily tarnish and grow dull if its protection wears off. Furthermore, it is very thin, and may flake, peel, or be worn away with prolonged play. When new, though, it looks totally rockin' cool, awesome and rad.

Vacuum metallizing was especially common during the [[Beast Era]], where it was a defining characteristic of the [[Transmetal]] sublines. The chrome on toys from this era will sometimes show an excessive amount of spiderwebbed cracking and flaking, far beyond that expected from normal wear. The problem was sporadic and unpredictable, not confined to any particular toy. Sometimes the cracking would show up almost as soon as the toy was opened; other times it did not appear until months or years later. Though the problem was fairly common, the majority of toys were not affected.

Toys produced and sold in the United States in the '00s used few or no plated parts, and the metallizing was omitted from toys in the [[Transformers: Universe (2003 toyline)|Universe]] line which had originally featured it, such as the Transmetals. However, vacuum metallized parts made a distinct comeback in TakaraTomy's ''[[Henkei! Henkei! Transformers (toyline)|Henkei! Henkei!]]'' line, where virtually ''every'' figure has at least something shiny, regardless of whether it makes sense or not.

Several years later, vacuum metallizing would make an unexpected return at Hasbro for [[2014]]'s ''[[Transformers: Age of Extinction (toyline)|Age of Extinction]]'' movie tie-in toyline, with numerous store exclusives and the standard Leader Class figures sporting huge swathes of plating, placed with a ''Henkei!''-esque disregard for logic or reason.

It returned again for HasLab Omega Prime what even advertises the fact the eyes and antennas of Super mode Optimus and Omega Prime are "vac-metal".
* Protectobot Scout (called "Protectobot" in-game) is one of the three mass-produced Transformers playable in the 360/PS3/PC version of the ROTF game, the others being [[Aerialbot Scout 2]] and the Decepticon [[Seeker Sniper]]. Unlike Aerialbot, he can only be used in multiplayer or accessed Via an ingame cheat. The cheat for the Xbox 360 version as listed on some sites is wrong, it should be: RS,LB,LB,Y,X,A. The code to use him in the PS3 version is: R3, L1, L1, Triangle, Square, X. Protectobot is not playable in Deep 6 as he is unable to fly. Oddly enough, this code disables achievements and profiles but does not greatly affect gameplay.

*On some versions of the game the cheat code makes you Aerialbot instead of Protectobot. This is a bug as the text still says you are protectobot.

*Protectobot Scout's playable version plays similar to [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]]. It even uses similar weapons and has a similar X/Square Button Vehicle takedown where, just like Bumblebee, instead of ramming into the opponent like most other characters do, Protectobot Scout uses a back flip kick. It fires missiles for a secondary weapon that also resemble Bumblebee's secondary weapon's missiles.

'''Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen''' is the video game adaptation of the [[Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (film)|film]] of the same name. Developed by [[Luxoflux]] for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC, the game follows a number of Autobots and Decepticons through a loose approximation of the movie's plot. The game has two campaigns, one for each faction. It is the first Transformers game on a console to feature online multiplayer.

Several '''[[Revenge of the Fallen (video games)|other versions]]''' of the title were released for other platforms.

==Synopsis==
===Autobot campaign===

The Autobot campaign begins with NEST Pilot Sgt. Epps reporting Decepticons in [[Shanghai]], [[China]]. Upon the arrival of the Autobots, Major William Lennox tells them there are Decepticons in the perimeter and must not escape. [[Ironhide (Movie)|Ironhide]] is sent to fight them. Ironhide then battles and defeats [[Sideways (ROTF)|Sideways]]. When [[Optimus Prime (Movie)/games|Optimus Prime]] gets word that Ironhide is missing, Ratchet heads out to find him and get him to safety. After locating Ironhide, his power is recharged and another Decepticon battle ensues. After annihilating Decepticon troops, Optimus battles [[Demolishor (ROTF)|Demolishor]]. Upon his defeat and before Optimus deactivates him, Demolishor states "[[The Fallen]] shall rise again."

The Autobots then head to Burbank, California where a previously unknown fragment of the [[AllSpark]] has surfaced, now in possession of [[Mikaela Banes]]. [[Bumblebee (Movie)/games|Bumblebee]] is sent to protect Mikaela when the Decepticons detect the fragment also. The Autobots learn that a second AllSpark fragment held by the Americans has been stolen. Soundwave learns of [[Megatron (Movie)/games|Megatron]]'s location, and transmits it to the Decepticons. [[Breakaway (ROTF)|Breakaway]] is sent to defend a carrier fleet guarding Megatron's corpse in the [[Laurentian Abyss]] from the Decepticons. Despite his efforts, Megatron is reactivated.

On the East Coast, [[Sam Witwicky]] is kidnapped by the Decepticon troops and taken to an industrial park near his college. Ratchet manages to locate Sam in an abandoned foundry and sends Bumblebee the coordinates. Bumblebee rescues Sam and gets him to the extraction point, Grindor attacks, but Bumblebee manages to defeat him. To aid their allies against the Decepticons, Optimus decides to give them advanced weaponry and escorts the [[Axiom Gun]] to NEST headquarters. After getting the convoy to destination, the Autobots meet with Sam who is going to visit the deli where [[Seymour Simmons|Agent Simmons]] is currently working. With intel from Simmons, Sam has Bumblebee take him to the museum to seek out a robot named [[Jetfire (Movie)|Jetfire]]. While Sam looks for Jetfire, Bumblebee defends the museum from the Decepticon troops. Jetfire emerges from the museum and takes Sam through the inter-dimensional [[space bridge]] to [[Cairo]], Egypt, with the Autobots following.

Jetfire reveals the [[Dynasty of Primes]] have constructed a machine called the [[Star Harvester|Sun Harvester]] hidden in an [[Pyramid|Egyptian pyramid]]. He says the device destroys stars to harvest their energy. Upon arrival in the outskirts of Cairo, the Autobots search for Sam while evading Decepticon troops. After finding Sam, Optimus Prime takes him to the Tomb of the 12 Ancients. While Sam is in the tomb, Optimus defends it from Megatron and [[Starscream (Movie)/games|Starscream]]. Optimus defeats Megatron and Starscream, but they escape after Megatron impales Jetfire. Before dying, Jetfire donates his wings and parts to Optimus Prime. In the city, Bumblebee faces and destroys Devastator who is leading the Decepticon troops attacking Cairo.

The Fallen reveals himself and the Sun Harvester. Optimus battles The Fallen, killing him by stabbing him through the head with his sword. The Fallen falls into the Sun Harvester, destroying it. With the Ancient Transformers avenged, [[Ratchet (Movie)|Ratchet]] tells Optimus that Megatron is on a ship in a distant galaxy. Optimus then salutes his troops for their good work in stopping the Decepticons.

===Decepticon Campaign===
The Decepticon campaign begins in Shanghai with Sideways tracking down Autobots in his area. He then learns that Grindor has gone missing and Sideways must find, repair, and transport Grindor to the extraction site. Once Grindor is safe, he attacks Autobots protecting NEST arrays and infiltrates them with a [[viroid]]s, viruses that give the Decepticons access to NEST communications. Elsewhere, Long Haul destroys NEST bases located around the city of Shanghai. Ironhide emerges to fight Long Haul but is defeated. Starscream proclaims the victory as a message to Optimus Prime.

The Decepticons then head to Burbank, California. Soundwave has learned that Sam Witwicky has given a shard of the Allspark to Mikaela. They hope to recover the shard and revive Megatron. Long Haul destroys buildings, capturing men who may know Mikaela's location. However, the probe Starscream uses kills the first three before they can be of any use. Although the last engineer dies, Starscream is able to discover Mikaela's location. Long Haul is once again sent to recover her. Unfortunately, Starscream receives word that the Decepticon troops transporting Mikaela has been intercepted by the Autobots. After this, Starscream decides to kidnap NSA chief Galloway. After destroying several buildings owned by the front corporation Massive Dynamics, Starscream captures Galloway and places him under Decepticon control. Breakaway attempts to stop the Decepticons, but he is killed by Grindor.

With Galloway under their control, the Decepticons learn both the location of the AllSpark shard and where Megatron's remains have been hidden. Soundwave dispatches [[Ravage (ROTF)|Ravage]] to retrieve the shard, while Starscream and Long Haul head to the Laurentian Abyss. Starscream destroys the turrets on aircraft carriers stationed at the Abyss, allowing the Decepticons to gain access to Megatron's remains. Long Haul uses the shard to raise Megatron back to life, who returns to the ''Nemesis'' and presents himself to the Fallen. Megatron believes he has failed, but the Fallen reveals that there is a machine that can create the energon needed to raise their army. The knowledge lies within Sam Witwicky. The Fallen promises to grant Megatron the powers of a Prime if he completes his task. Megatron dispatches Grindor to retrieve the boy and succeeds, but the Autobots rescue him when Starscream's extraction unit is defeated. However, their hunt for the boy has drawn out Optimus Prime. Megatron defeats Optimus and has Starscream destroy a museum that Sam entered, but he is not among the ruins. They learn he was transported to Cairo, Egypt via a Space Bridge created by Jetfire.

Megatron arrives on the outskirts of an Egyptian city and engages Autobots in combat. Jetfire and Bumblebee both challenge him but are defeated. Long Haul is then dispatched to destroy the Axiom Gun and succeeds. With the last threats removed, Megatron goes to meet the Fallen at the harvester. However, Optimus survived his battle with Megatron and reveals that The Fallen has no way to make Megatron a Prime, as Primes are born, not made. Megatron then attacks and destroys his former master, but Optimus is able to deactivate the harvester before it can destroy the sun.

With his initial plan ruined, Megatron returns to the ''Nemesis'' and activates the Decepticon protoforms inside the ship, commanding his new army to arise.
==Gameplay==
===Campaign===
As with [[Transformers The Game (console)|its predecessor]], ''Revenge of the Fallen'' features separate Autobot and Decepticon campaigns. Players start out in a central hub, from which they can select missions to complete in different areas, with new areas and missions unlocked as they progress. Unlike its predecessor, ''Revenge of the Fallen'' does not feature predetermined characters for missions, instead allowing players to select between a group of available characters. Players will received medals ranging from bronze to platinum based on their mission completion time; the better the medal, the more campaign points received, which are used to unlock new areas and missions. Earning a medal of any rank in each mission of an area will allow the player to freely explore that area.

Players can use a variety of melee attacks and ranged weapons, as well as climb walls and transform between modes. Continuously using ranged weapons will cause them to overheat and require a brief cooldown before they can be used again. Destroying enemies will gradually fill an Overdrive meter at the bottom of the screen; when full, the player can temporarily enter Overdrive mode, which increases damage output and rate of fire, removes overheating, and makes players invincible while it is active. Players can earn [[energon]] by destroying five hidden skill shots in each mission, completing bonus objectives, and performing certain types of attacks. Collected energon can be used to purchase upgrades for he characters, including health extensions, new weaponry, and additional attacks.

===Multiplayer===
''Revenge of the Fallen'' features five multiplayer game types. "Deathmatch" allows players to choose any character in a free-for-all battle. "Team Deathmatch" functions similarly, but instead features teams of Autobots and Decepticons competing for the most kills. "Control Points" features teams battling for control of specific areas to gain points. "One Shall Stand" has Autobot and Decepticon teams attempting to take out the opposing team's leader (Optimus Prime or Megatron) while protecting their own. Finally, "Battle for the Shards", features {{w|capture the flag}}-style gameplay, with teams retrieving shards of the AllSpark scattered around the battlefield and returning them to their base to earn points.

==PC version notes==
The PC version of the game was handled by Beenox, but they are known for their bad PC ports of games, most famous being their PC port of [[W:Spider-Man 3 (video game)|Spider-Man 3]], which has led to issues with the PC version of this game.
*The game is capped at 32 frames per second, and there is a [https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/2430-transformers-revenge-of-the-fallen-ultrawide-fix-fps-unlock/| fix] for that. This also fixes other graphical issues such as the color correction (yellowish tint) and improves the draw distance.
*No DLC meaning no expert difficulty or extra playable characters.
*Unused files from the console versions of the game are still intact, including unused character and level files leftover by the devs.
*The cutscenes are in terrible quality, unlike the console versions, but there is a [https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1qIi0_YY8L3faIsh1GpT6xqlWmAxIe4bQ| fix] for that.

==Cut and unused content==
[[File:RoTFGame UnusedMap mp cairo city.jpg|thumb| Left for dead on the sands of Cairo.]]

*Through [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTUwnASxf64 character swapping], one can play as unused and unplayable characters, such as Jetfire, who is his NPC variant in the base game and is quite different from his DLC variant, such as having a repair animation despite not being playable.

*Bumblebee's stealth skin, which was normally DLC. It is recommended to swap his character file only, as his sound files are missing several sounds.

*The Combaticon Scout, Sniper, and Warrior. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eLbUxNeLfKk They're] [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p27Apokpd3I pretty] [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PwbZ0Sihv9I glitchy].

*Three cut Multiplayer maps, mp_west_canals, mp_cairo_ruins, and mp_cairo_city, can be played by renaming their mission.str into zone.str and swapping any campaign map with them. Depending on the map, their spawn points and despawn locations may have bugs. mp_cairo_city seems to be an early version of the Sandstorm DLC map, but with different buildings and blue and red squares on both sides of the map. mp_west_canals is a multiplayer version of the West Canals level, but it appears heavily unfinished with missing geometry. The same can be said for mp_cairo_ruins, a Multiplayer map of the Cairo ruins level.

*For every dialogue file in which Starscream mentions Long Haul in the tutorial, there is another unused one where he mentions Sideways, maybe hinting at Sideways being playable in the first part of the tutorial instead of Long Haul at one point.

*There are [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RQQKrSNDFV4 multiple] [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b-r3W6FCoRc unused] missions only in the PC version.

*On the 360 version, there are some unused debug files not present in any other version. It's not known how to get them to work in game, but with a hex editor, one can open the files and reveal what these debug files include.

==Notes==
*The game makes several nods to other productions by the film's director [[Michael Bay]].
**Throughout the North American levels, there are billboards for films such as {{w|The Island (2005 film)|The Atoll}}, {{w|Bad Boys (1995 film)|Tough Guyz}}, {{w|Armageddon (1998 film)|Earth's End}}, and {{w|The Rock (film)|The Stone}}.
**For destroying 250 Decepticons in the Autobot campaign, you earn the [http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lXRCf9LbLM0 Awesome] Achievement/Trophy.
**For destroying 350 Autobots in the Decepticon campaign, you earn the {{w|Bad Boys (1995 film)|Bad Boys}} Achievement/Trophy, another nod to Bay.
*Six episodes of the [[The Transformers (cartoon)|original cartoon]] can be unlocked over the course of the game: "[[S.O.S. Dinobots]]", "[[Fire on the Mountain (episode)|Fire on the Mountain]]", "[[War of the Dinobots]]" (mislabeled as "War '''on''' the Dinobots"), and "The Ultimate Doom", Parts [[The Ultimate Doom, Part 1|1]], [[The Ultimate Doom, Part 2|2]], and [[The Ultimate Doom, Part 3|3]].
*G1-style color schemes for Ironhide and Starscream can be unlocked for both single and multiplayer modes. Additionally, a yellow color scheme can be unlocked for Long Haul, making him more closely resemble a conventional (or [[Tonka]]) dump truck.
*As in the [[Transformers The Game|previous game]], [[Frank Welker]] returns as Megatron. He does not, however, voice any of the characters ([[Soundwave (ROTF)|Soundwave]], [[Grindor (ROTF)|Grindor]] and [[Devastator (ROTF)|Devastator]]) he did in the movie.
*Speaking of Transformers The Game, this game reuses a lot of sounds and a little bit of music from it. You ought to wonder how this game would've sounded in the prototype stage.
*Several multiplayer levels feature advertisements for [[Coca-Cola]].
*Fans of G1 will be pleased to find out that some Achievements/Trophies are named after episodes of the G1 cartoon, such as "[[Carnage in C-Minor]]" and "[[Megatron's Master Plan, Part 1|Megatron's Master Plan]]". There's even an Achievement/Trophy titled "You've Got [[The Touch]]".
*Starscream is the only boss that is fought twice during the game.
*Ratchet doesn't exist in the Decepticon campaign. [[Transformers The Game|Again]].
*At one point, shown through concept art unlocked in the game, [[Barricade (Movie)|Barricade]] was going to appear. He was most likely replaced by Sideways, going along with an early comic idea that Barricade was upgraded into Sideways, but was later dropped. That sucks.
*This was [[Luxoflux]]'s last game before the studio's closure in 2010.
*Breakaway's working name, ''Firestorm'', is used as the filename for his character file. It's not really known why, though.
**Likewise, Grindor's character filename is ''Blackout''.
*There are some errors with the DLC Characters in this game. Stealth Bumblebee's guns don't show up, Ratchet's G1 skin's vehicle mode has the robot spec texture on it, and Sideswipe's G1 color scheme reuses Bumblebee's entrance animation even though he's a reskin of Sideswipe with his own entrance animation, which means he'll walk in by ''stepping on the ground'' instead of rolling, and it just makes him look weird.

==Differences between the Game and Movie==
* The Decepticons are not looking for the [[Matrix of Leadership]] as they did in the movie, but the Star Harvester itself; in the movie, they already knew where the harvester was.
* In the Decepticon campaign, it's said that the Decepticons were in Shanghai to look for Megatron's remains.
* Breakaway did not appear in the movie.
* In the movie, Bumblebee is still having troubles with his speech. In the game, he has completely regained his speech.
* In the game, Optimus Prime doesn't die in either campaign and so isn't resurrected. The battle in the forest doesn't happen either, but there's a similar battle in Cairo against Megatron and Starscream, where Jetfire is also present. A more reminiscent battle can be found during the final battle from the Decepticon campaign from [[Transformers The Game (console)|the previous game]]
* Jetfire's death is altered. In the movie, he commits suicide and gives his parts to Optimus. In the games, he is either stabbed by Megatron before giving his parts to Optimus (Autobot campaign) or killed by the player (Decepticon campaign). Also, in the movie there's a neat combination sequence for Jetfire's parts and Optimus. In the game...Prime just abruptly appears in Autobot HQ in the next cutscene wearing Jetfire armor. Talk about anti-climactic.
* In the movie, Sideways is killed by [[Sideswipe (Movie)|Sideswipe]]. In the Autobot campaign, he is killed by Ironhide (or whoever the player is), as Sideswipe was absent from the game until he was added as multiplayer-only downloadable content.
* Along with Sideswipe, [[Skids (ROTF)|Skids]], [[Mudflap (ROTF)|Mudflap]], [[Arcee (Movie)|Arcee]], [[Wheelie (ROTF)|Wheelie]] and [[Jolt (ROTF)|Jolt]] are absent from the game's story, and [[Ravage (ROTF)|Ravage]] is only mentioned briefly in the Decepticon campaign. The only [[Constructicon (ROTF)|Constructicon]] to make an appearance, except as a part of [[Devastator (ROTF)|Devastator]], is [[Long Haul (ROTF)|Long Haul]] (as well as [[Constructicon Scout]]s very rarely being present as enemies in the Autobot campaign). Of the major human characters, [[Leo Spitz]] is not seen or mentioned during the game, and [[Seymour Simmons|Agent Simmons]] is only mentioned in a mission where the player has to escort Sam to the deli where he works.
* Like [[Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen (novel)|other]] [[Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen Official Movie Adaptation|adaptations]], the [[Tomb of the Primes]] is called the Tomb of the Twelve, while in the movie, there were only seven dead Primes.
* In the movie, Devastator is killed at the pyramids. In the game, he is killed in Cairo, meaning he never gets the chance to rip the pyramid apart, yet in the battle against The Fallen, the pyramid is open, revealing the Star Harvester.
* The Autobots did not supply the humans with a weapon to battle the Decepticons in the movie.
* [[Starscream (Movie)/games|Starscream]] speaks in a voice rather reminiscent of his [[Starscream (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|G1 counterpart]] in the movie. In the game, his voice is far deeper and more aggressive in nature, although he has the same voice actor.
* Similarly, [[Hugo Weaving]]'s Megatron is deep-voiced in the film. In the game, however, [[Frank Welker]] plays him with exactly the same voice as he used for [[Megatron (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Megatron's G1 counterpart]] in the original cartoon. He even has the trademark laugh.
* In the game, the Decepticons have to fight their way past a Naval fleet in order to reach Megatron's remains. In the movie, they just sneak past them on a ship and then dive straight down.
* [[Demolishor (ROTF)|Demolishor]] is shown to be much more heavily damaged in the film, before his final moment, than in the game. For instance, in the film, his entire face is shown to be falling apart; in the game, it's fine.
* Reedman and Alice are absent from the game.
