Canada is like the United States of America, but bigger, politer, and health care-ier. In retaliation, the United States wears Canada like a hat, eh?

Toronto is Canada's largest city, eh? (Yes, there are cities littered aboot the country!)

Non-fiction, eh?
Canada has had a surprisingly large behind-the-scenes role in producing Transformers. It is home of Mainframe Entertainment, who produced the Beast Wars and Beast Machines television series. It was also home to the now-defunct Dreamwave Productions whose top-selling 2002 Generation 1 revival comic led directly to the production of the 2007 movie.

During the tail end of Generation 1, Canada received several toys the U.S. did not, like the Turbomasters. Generally speaking, U.S. exclusives tend to turn up at Canadian retail, with Wal-Mart keeping its exclusives and Target exclusives winding up at Zellers, a Canadian chain.

Due to Canada being a bilingual country, it's always had multilingual packaging. The toys also required multilingual character names for a long time.

Fiction, eh?
Marvel Comics continuity
There are lots of polar bears, eh?

When Ratchet blew up the Ark like a shaken-up bottle of beer, it crashed somewhere in northern Canada. The Ark, not the beer, 'cause that'd be a waste of good beer. But Galvatron survived the crash, and since he's like, a big hoser, he killed a bunch of Canadian army guys. Then Spike Witwicky and Fortress Maximus came and beat him up and tossed him in a lake, and that was pretty much it for Galvatron. The Last Autobot?

Japanese cartoon continuity
The Autobot group led by Ginrai first met up with Ranger in the vast Canadian forests and Lightfoot at his father's motor company. Both learned aboot their ability to "God On" with their Transtectors soon after. {{storylink|An Enemy? The Third Godmaster, Ranger|An Enemy?
Lightfoot's father moved from England to Canada to fulfill his dream of starting a car company, this apparently being more achievable in Canada. The resulting company is the prestigious British Motors, which is a perfectly logical name for a company started in Canada. Lightfoot: A Dramatic Encounter
Titan Magazines (2007 Movie)
In an alternate universe, Canada may have been conquered and occupied by Decepticons for a brief period. Transformers Comic issue 23
Transformers Animated
Canada is very close to Detroit. However, despite what a certain pompous windbag thinks, there are no "international" waters in Lake Erie. After the SOCCENT Forward Operations Base in Qatar was attacked by unknown hostiles, Keller led a briefing on what they knew to a group of Pentagon-computer technicians, informing them that someone had tried to hack the Defense Network during the attack. Later, when Air Force One was hacked by another unknown hostile, he ordered the President to be placed in the Presidential bunker.

When he was briefed on the possible countries that were capable of such hacks, Maggie Madsen, who had led the team which discovered the second hack, informed him that those countries were incapable of such work. When she suggested that it might be a living organism behind it, Keller told her to find some evidence, or shut up. However, he was later informed that survivors of the base attack were under attack by a hostile. When the Pentagon received video feed, they saw that the hostile was a never before seen creature. After the creature was driven off, Keller ordered the men to be returned to the states and debriefed.

Later, a virus which had been uploaded by the second hacker led to a global communications shutdown. During that time, Tom Banachek arrived from Sector Seven, an organization Keller had never heard of, with orders from the President to brief Keller. Taking him to the briefing room, Banachek showed Keller images of the Mars Beagle 2 Rover. Officially, the rover had crashed and been lost. Unofficially, thirteen seconds of information had been sent before the rover had been destroyed by a humanoid creature. Visibly horrified, Keller was then shown a picture of the Mars alien, as Banachek then compared that with images of the "weapons platform" the SOCCENT survivors had taken before their retreat. When Keller asked if the planet was under threat of invasion, Banachek told him to look out at the static filled screens. Keller ordered the dispatched naval fleets to be returned somehow, and had Madsen brought with him as his advisor, along with her advisor Glen Whitmann.

Taken to Hoover Dam, Keller met with Captain Lennox, CO of the SOCCENT survivors, and informed him that they were doing their best to load all gunships with sabot rounds. Going inside, he was shocked to see a frozen N.B.E.-1, and was very upset that he had never been informed about it. This was made even worse when some kid told them that N.B.E.-1, whose real name was Megatron, was the harbinger of death and planned to turn all of Earth's machines to conquer the galaxy with some device called the All Spark. During a demonstration of the All Spark's power, Agent Simmons brought Glen's Nokia produced cellphone to life, commenting that the Japanese were skilled inventors. When Maggie commented that Nokia was from Finland, Keller reminded her that Simmons was a strange man.

After a Decepticon attacked the Dam and Megatron began to unthaw, Keller accompanied the others to the armory. During the standoff between Agent Simmons and Captain Lennox over releasing the kid's Camaro, Keller advised Simmons to listen to Lennox. After the Camaro shrank the All Spark, Keller, Simmons, Maggie, and Glen went to the archives room, where they attempted to send out a radio signal to support the soldiers taking the cube to Mission City. Sadly, the radio had no microphones, but Glen attempted to connect a computer to the radio. Their efforts were interrupted by a spastic little abomination that had hacked Air Force One. Keller provided cover fire with an old shotgun while Glen worked. Fortunately, the spastic abomination killed itself with one of its own razors. After contact was made, Keller used his authorization codes to send air support to Mission City.

After the Decepticons were destroyed, Keller informed the military that Sector Seven was to be shutdown, and that the Decepticon corpses were to be dropped in the Laurentian Abyss, which Keller said was the deepest place on the planet.
A month later, after the Decepticon Wreckage was inadvertently reactivated and rampaged across Sector Seven's Nevada desert facility, Keller called Simmons and informed him that effective immediately, Sector Seven was dissolved and that he had put Captain Lennox in charge of the operation, ending Simmons's employment. Alliance issue 3

* Keller's appearance in IDW Publishing's Movie Adaptation did not look anything like Jon Voight, and the character was portrayed as a General instead of the Secretary of Defense. The former was due to the fact IDW was not (and still is not) allowed to use the likeness of several actors playing the secondary characters, and it is assumed the latter was due to IDW using an older version of the script.
So what now?
I brought this general line of questioning up over at the Allspark too, but that was really only because TFWiki.net was down at the time. Basically, in the wake of the Bookworm disaster, I'd like to know three things:
# How did this happen? All I know is that Bookworm updated the MediaWiki software, which caused... something... to happen to our data. The wiki was, what? Deleted? Corrupted? I don't know. But apparently this required a reversion to a backup, and the only available one was from June 2008. Why did that one even exist? Why not September? And, honestly, the "routine backups" made after September had all failed, with no one ever noticing? How did that happen?
# Has the backup process been fixed? This is pretty much the most important question of the moment. Every bit of our herculean recovery effort could vanish again if the June backup is still the only one on the server.
# Where are we going from here? Walky has said that he's looking for a new host, and he has asked for advice. I haven't seen much advice appear (maybe people have been communicating with him in private?), but if anyone has any suggestions, please air them. I wouldn't even know where to start, so I'm of little help.
- Jackpot 18:03, 23 March 2009 (EDT)

:Bookworm has explained to me what he thinks happened to the backups, but I couldn't begin to regurgitate that information. This stuff is not English for me. (Some would say English is not English for me.) It involves complicated server moves and DNS stuff, I think, and the bottom line is none of the backups were confirmed to have resulted in working backups; they were merely scheduled to be made, automatic-like, and resulted in, from what I understand, data being thrown into the ether, never sticking to anything. WHOOPS --ItsWalky 01:23, 24 March 2009 (EDT)
:I really have no concept of what to look for in a host. While I've managed to find decent hosting for my own site in the past, it's a static, relatively low-traffic site, nothing like here. A quick search reveals that there are plenty of hosts offering unlimited space and bandwidth for about $5/month, which sure seems like something we could afford. But I have no intuitive sense of how to identify a quality host for our kind of needs. Like, are these $5 guys the first level of low-grade vendors who have Google-statted their way up the search results, and you have to dig deeper to find the more heavy-duty kind of host we'd need? Are the recommended hosts on that page just there 'cause they paid for it? Or is $5 just the going rate for quality hosting these days? How do we distinguish a reseller from an actual host? How much software and setup support do we need?

:I mean, I guess I'd expect a serious host not to have cheap tarts on their front page, but anybody can make a serious, grey-toned, business-like web page... even guys who provide crappy service. -- Repowers 18:36, 24 March 2009 (EDT)

::They may say they offer unlimited space or bandwidth, but I'm betting that there's a clause in the T&C which limits it to "for some meanings of unlimited". The big Doctor Who fiction archive site I help run got bumped from the cheaper account it was on to a more expensive one because it was using too many "resources" (the software it runs on is not the most efficient), though it was using less than the maximum bandwidth/disk space. --abates 19:26, 24 March 2009 (EDT)

:::That's exactly the kind of thing I'm wary of with these cheap places. The front-line search result hosts really don't seem like they're marketing to processor-intensive clients like ourselves. -- Repowers 20:06, 24 March 2009 (EDT)

::::What is our price limit, anyway? I mean, the account which the aforemented fanfiction site is on is extremely reliable, you get access to everything up to and including rebooting the server if you want. However drawback is that it costs $40 a month. Now it could be we could share costs by having several sites hosted on the same server (I'd have to check with the web host about that), but I don't know what our price range is. --abates 21:34, 24 March 2009 (EDT)
:::::I would be very interested in hearing our budgetary constraints as well. The last time this was asked, Walky said that Bookworm was handling it and that the dude would let him know if what we were doing was costing more than the Project Wonderful ads were pulling in. At the time that was cool as school but in retrospect it seems... really skeevy. It also possibly says that Bookworm already has our ad revenue, and can effectively hold us hostage. I know that sounds paranoid, but I don't know what to think right now and would love some reassurance at the least.--RosicrucianTalk 00:24, 25 March 2009 (EDT)
::::::Bookworm absolutely cannot hold our ad revenue hostage. WE have our ad revenue. It is gathering in our Project Wonderful account, where it will remain until we can point it to a paypal account at some point in the future. Bookworm may have fucked over the wiki this past week, but he's not a jerky guy. He just loves webcomics, and basically hosts BLC at low-cost because it allows his favorite things to continue. Hosting the TF Wiki was an extension of that, and he did it because I asked him. Let's not demonify the guy any more than we have to. He's not going to screw us over, and I really doubt he has any bad intentions in mind. --ItsWalky 00:34, 25 March 2009 (EDT)

My input:

I used ePerfect as my first webhost. I found them to be reliable and easy to administer, but we would have to negotiate our own package with them, as their standard plans are obviously way too small. (I do know a fellow who did such a negotiation for his website, so I know it was possible at least in the past, however I am not privy to what his costs ended up being.) I also have no idea how their tech support is, as I never had to talk with them for any reason.

My current webhost is Dreamhost. For $10/month you get gobs of space, bandwidth, and options (and full control over your space), and they also have private virtual server options. They also will host one domain name for free if you have webspace with them. I find their tech support people have been quick on the response the few times I've needed to talk to them.

However, they have had some hardware goofs in the past, and I've never had personal experience with how they'd handle a no doubt high-bandwidth, high-CPU-usage site like this one. They are, however, very quick and open with any and all issues they have: Dreamhost Status Blog

So, there you have it, the only two webhosts I'm personally familiar with, and I admit I can't 100% recommend either, but they might be worth looking into. (And I shamelessly request that if you do end up with Dreamhost, you use my referrer code while signing up. :3 ) --Jeysie 18:59, 24 March 2009 (EDT)

One of #wiigii!'s resident tech dudes recommends Slicehost. He immediately followed this up with a string of caveats -- it won't be perfect, we'd need someone to install Wikimedia, restoring from a backup would basically mean rolling back one day, etc etc -- but it sounds far better equipped to handle our needs than Bookworm, and it looks like exactly the kind of heavy-duty host which, as I said up above, I don't know how to search for. Some of it, I mean... no host is perfect, and we have to accept some compromise to keep things within our budget -- but reliable uptime and actual working backups would be a fantastic step up from our current situation. -- Repowers 00:17, 25 March 2009 (EDT)

: I am that tech dude. Here's the deal, from what has been gathered and occasionally specified. The platform on which this wiki runs seems to need a half-gig of RAM, and under 10 gigs of diskspace, but it does apparently need dual CPUs at a decent clock speed. Fundamentally, it could be hosted on a mid-range desktop based on those specs, but the hardware, and even the bandwidth, is cheap. You either need a sysadmin to maintain everything, which is not a full-time job until something breaks, or you need a managed hosting option that knows how to run MediaWiki properly. The former gives you complete control over everything, though you may not get cPanel support and the like unless you build it yourself. The latter is what you had when Wikia didn't suck, which I'm sure had a lot less headaches in terms of the guts of the system, although it was obviously NOT a good solution based on how they presented your content. Personally, I think you're more likely to find a pool of competent techies within the fandom to handle the nuts and bolts on a volunteer basis, though you would be handing over ALL the keys to the castle to that person. -- McFly 22:23, 26 March 2009 (EDT)

I thought I'd weigh in with HostForWeb, who I've hosted my personal site with since January '04. Their tech support is pretty good, and even moved my site to a different server for me when the one it was on started having persistent problems running out of disk space. The only thing I can flaw them on is that they don't announce downtime in advance, so a few times I've found the site down, emailed them, and they've told me that the server was being rebooted or something.

The larger site which I help run which is hosted with them is A Teaspoon and an Open Mind. It's been hosted there since September '06. Last month, it got an average 3,755 pageviews per day, and from user reports, it has very little in the way of downtime, but, as I mention, it's running on their $40-a-month VPS plan (you get a two-month discount if you pay for a year at a time). We started on one of the shared plans, but the site was using too many resources (The software we're using is not particularly efficient...) and we ended up being bumped to the VPS option. --abates 07:04, 25 March 2009 (EDT)
Image aspect ratios
I notice a lot of Animated screencaps, like :Image:SariLayingDown1.jpg, are out-of-aspect ratio, which is kinda annoying - neither NTSC (480i, typically 720x480, US/Japan) nor PAL (576i, typically 720x576, UK/Europe/Australia) use square pixels, while computers do. A screencap from a 4:3 NTSC source should really be resized to 640px wide for uploading here, while a screencap from a 4:3 PAL source should be resized to 768px wide. - SanityOrMadness 21:39, 26 March 2009 (EDT)
Detailed synopsis
Goldbug is talking with the Technobots at Autobot City. Things have been quiet for the Autobots in the months since the return of Optimus Prime and the Hate Plague crisis. Not a word has been heard of the Decepticons in months. Who knows where they are. The answer? Right at their doorstep. Meanwhile, Ultra Magnus walks into a room to find Optimus on his knees. Optimus claims that he has been having visions since he opened the Matrix, and it's something big. Goldbug informs Optimus of the approaching Decepticon force, and Optimus realizes that what ever he's been sensing, it's starting right now.

Leading the Autobots out, the Decepticons attack. The Technobots and the Throttlebots take point, but the Decepticons have gotten some new raw power in Apeface and Snapdragon, while Mindwipe has some fun with Lightspeed. However, Punch sees Wingspan and Pounce enter into Autobot City. Transforming into Counterpunch, he follows to check up on their progress, where he sees them steal something from the vaults. They Clones quickly dispatch Punch, and take their prize to Scourge. Having claimed what they wanted, Galvatron orders a retreat. Optimus, realizing this was a diversion, runs into Autobot City, finding Punch and the vault. Horrified, Optimus orders everyone to board the ships and head for Cybertron.

On Cybertron, Blurr is racing with Hot Rod, with Daniel riding in Hot Rod. Blurr, however, loses control, while Daniel shoots several Decepticon targets and wins the race. Brainstorm claims that this is evidence of his theory that human partner's would be able to assist the Autobots in the war with the Decepticons. Hardhead and Cerebros are unsure of the idea. However, Optimus contacts the Autobots, telling them Galvatron stole the Key to the Plasma Energy Chamber. This the was forge which was used to create the bodies of the original Autobots. Since the Quintesson rebellion, the key has been in the safekeeping of the Autobot leaders, who have been tasked with guarding the key with their lives. However, Galvatron intends to open the chamber and destroy Cybertron. The Decepticons arrive, and chaos insues. The Aerialbots are quickly taken down by Sixshot.

During the onslaught, Kup and Hot Rod's team notice Scourge heading for the Plasma Energy Chamber. They pursue in an attempt to stop him, but when Scourge opens the chamber, he is nearly killed, but Spike and Cerebros manages to grab the key. The Autobots' ship is hit by a wave of energy from the Plasma Energy Chamber. Their ship is hurled off Cybertron itself. Discovering Scourge, the Decepticons reactivate him. Scrouge explains what happened, and a team under Cyclonus heads out to find the Autobots with the key.

Meanwhile, the Autobot ship crashes on Nebulon. With the engines fried, the Autobots and the Witwickys decide to look for civilization. However, they're captured by a resistance movement that thinks they're machines being controlled by the Hive. They plan to destroy the Autobots with magnetic bombs, even though Spike tries to talk them down. However, the Decepticons show up. Spike finally convinces the Nebulons to release the Autobots. In the subsequent battle, Daniel is injured by Snapdragon, and Hot Rod, Kup, Blurr, Crosshairs, and Sureshot are taken captive. Some of the Autobots persue them into the forest, but are quickly driven off by machines.

Returning to the cave, the Nebulons explain that the Hive is a tyrannical group of telekinetics who have used machines to enslave Nebulon. The resistance members know the weakpoints of the machines, but they just don't have the firepower. Spike thinks that Brainstorm's idea of organic partners just might be the ticket. The Autobots agree to allow the Nebulons to use their heads as suits, except for Cerebros, who walks out, tired of fighting. Arcee asks to be Daniel's partner, and Spike agrees. As they remove their heads, Spike declares that they are about to become Headmasters.

On Cybertron, Blurr is racing with Hot Rod, with Daniel ridding in Hot Rod. Blurr, however, losses control, while Daniel shoots several Decepticon targets and wins the race.

:Landfill is an Autobot Targetmaster in the Generation 1 continuity family.

Why doesn't anybody like Landfill? Why do they step (very far) to the side when he passes by? He can't understand it. He's a really nice guy. He's always happy. He's good at his job, and he always does what he is told. Why, then, do his friends avoid him? This makes him very sad.

His comrades know the answer very well, but how do you tell a 'bot that he should clean his bodywork every once in a while, without upsetting him and making him think he's being insulted? It wouldn't help, anyway... he'd not see the need to clean up even if directly ordered to do so. It's a shame Landfill can't just realize on his own that if one is not to be selective about which cargoes he hauls, then one must be willing to use a little surfactant and solvent on occasion.

His Targetmaster partners Flintlock and Silencer try to make Landfill understand that if wants to make friends, he has to work on his hygiene, but this effort is to no avail.

:(Note: Though the above may imply the contrary, Landfill is a robot and has probably never been to BotCon. You probably, ahem, detected somebody else).
Landfill was a soldier under Emirate Xaaron's command on Cybertron, first seen during the brief period where the Classic Pretenders rallied the resistance movement with several successful assaults on Lord Thunderwing's territory. Yesterday's Heroes!
When Galvatron and the heralds of Unicron assaulted Xaaron's camp, Landfill stayed behind to cover his leader's escape. He suffered some injuries battling Hook, but managed to survive thanks to Unicron calling off his dogs to hunt the errant Galvatron instead. Surrender!
In an alternate 1991, Landfill was working with Hot Rod and Quickmix when Scorponok manipulated them into protecting him from harm during the Decepticon Civil War. While the Autobot Code compelled them to drive off his assassins, Scorponok made good his escape from all his enemies. Aspects of Evil!
*Landfill with Flintlock and Silencer (Targetmaster, 1988)

:Landfill transforms into a beige and brown off-road earth-moving dump truck, with a non-functional dumping tray (can't even put anything in it) due to his unusual arm transformation sequence. His Targetmaster partners Flintlock and Silencer (or any other accessories with handle pegs of the correct size) can be stored in the two peg holes on either side of the dumping tray.

:In robot mode it is revealed that the reason why his tray is non funcional is because the arms are stored within two flip-over panels. As was the standard of smaller Generation 1 toys of this era, Landfill has very limited articulation, located all in his ratcheting shoulder joints (and one has to hold the arm panels in place as you rotate the arms themselves). Flintlock and Silencer can become two separate handguns, or either can attach to the rear of the other gun to form a single rifle.

: No version of this character or mold was released in Japan.

:Donny Finkleberg, aka Robot-Master, is a human in the Generation 1 continuity.

Donny Finkleberg is an on-the-outs comic book writer. Although he claims he can "sell any story," most of his titles have flopped, and he sees a grim financial future for himself. To stave this off, Finkleberg will do pretty much anything for a buck. His strong sense of financial self-preservation wars with what small sense of morality he has. Finkleberg sees himself as a good guy and wants to be a good guy, but $50,000 checks from the government don't bounce. Nor does he bounce, at least not well, according to Jetfire.

Fiction
Marvel Comics continuity
Comic book writer
Finkleberg was originally a writer for a "famous comic book publishing company" in New York. His Robot-Master comic book series had been cancelled, and his idea for a Potato Salad Man graphic novel titled This Man, This Mayonnaise did not fetch interest from his superiors, so Finkleberg was turned away.

Supervillain
It was at this low point point in his career that he was approached by the United States government. III needed a cover story to explain the presence of the Transformers on Earth to panicked American citizens. The idea that a human terrorist controlled the Transformers was decided to be less frightening than the truth, so Finkleberg was paid 50 thousand dollars to dress as Robot-Master and appear in public broadcasts.

When Megatron had ceased movement at the bottom of a strip mine due to lack of fuel, III used this opportunity to claim ownership of the immobile Decepticon leader. Unfortunately, both the Autobots and Decepticons arrived, though the Autobots were forced away by human firepower. After Megatron was refueled by Soundwave, Finkleberg pleaded with Megatron to allow him to continue masquerading as their commander, for the purpose of convincing the public that the Autobots were also their enemies. Megatron agreed, since he saw the value in the plan, which was just about enough to overcome his distaste of humans, even though Finkleberg had repeatedly struck matches on Megatron to light his cigarettes.

Finkleberg resided in the Decepticon base until he decided it was in his best interest to escape and help the Autobots. He fled during an Autobot attack, though he was pursued by Ravage. After taking clothes from an absent campsite, he ran into the Autobot Skids and Charlene, but he brought Ravage with him. Ravage was dropped into a mine shaft, and Skids took Finkleberg with him back to the Ark.

Jerk
While Finkleberg was a captive of the Decepticons, he had learned that seven Autobots had arrived on Earth over the Space Bridge. The travelling Autobots were nowhere to be found, but they did leave a fuel trail. Holding for ransom Finkleberg's cashiers check from III, Optimus Prime ordered Finkleberg and Skids to follow the trail and find the missing Autobots.

Finkleberg shut down Skids and sold him to III.

RAAT (a military subdivision of III), in league with Circuit Breaker, had captured not only the 7 missing Autobots, but also the Aerialbots, and now added Skids to their number. Meanwhile, the Battlechargers had also arrived on Earth and were defacing public property across the United States. With the Autobots' ranks depleted, Finkleberg realized it was his fault there was no one available to stop the Decepticons' graffiti. He convinced Circuit Breaker to control a robot built from the bodies of the captured Autobots to defeat the Battlechargers in exchange for the Autobots' freedom. Although they defeated the two Decepticons, they were not able to stop them in time from writing "HUMANS ARE WIMPS" on the Statue of Liberty.

In a last-minute change of conscience, Finkleberg donated the 50 thousand dollars he earned for his treachery towards the clean-up efforts.

According to a UK letters page, Donny eventually got a job packaging at Hasbro after the Statue of Liberty incident. What this exactly entails is unclear, as their toys are presumably packaged in China.

Trivia
Donny Finkleberg is based on Marvel Comics writer and editor Danny Fingeroth.

What a dubious honor.
