:Scuba is a Maximal from the Beast Wars II era of Generation 1 continuity.

Scuba is a quiet and reserved Maximal and a bit of a loner. He prefers to spend his time in solitude, reading and writing (he's a very talented poet) with his exceptional penmanship. Though a calm and reserved character, Scuba is a very skilled fighter who strikes like a ninja; disappearing and reappearing at will. He has a cousin named Ikard and pilots the Tako Tank.

Fiction
Cartoon continuity
Beast Wars II cartoon
:Voice actor: Yūji Kishi (Japanese)

Scuba came to Gaea with Lio Convoy and the rest of the Maximals while pursuing Galvatron and his Predacon forces. Scuba took his job very seriously and was one of Lio Convoy's most trusted soldiers.

Despite being quiet and kinda freaky-looking, Scuba was a total playa. Both Artemis and Scylla were madly in love with him, though he did not reciprocate the emotion. Scylla was the most forward of the two, often literally chasing Scuba all over the planet.

During the final battle on Galvatron's artificial planet, Nemesis, Scuba was essential to the Maximal victory. After Nemesis absorbed all the Angolmois energy on Gaea, Lio Convoy ordered Scuba to disable the planet. With the help of the Tako Tank (given to him earlier by his cousin, Ikard), Scuba managed to complete his mission. However, like the rest of the Maximals, Scuba was caught in the self destruction of Nemesis and lost within a wormhole.

Beast Wars Neo cartoon
Later, after Big Convoy, Lio Convoy and Magmatron defeated Unicron, all the Maximals, Scuba included, were freed from the wormhole and invited back to Cybertron to help repair their devastated planet and take part in a new Maximal-Predacon alliance.

Comic continuity
Beast Wars II comic
Bighorn, a fellow Maximal, had a crush on Scylla but due to his meager intelligence could not pen a decent love letter to express his feelings. Bighorn asked Scuba to write the letter for him, as he was an accomplished poet. Scuba wrote a moving letter, but unfortunately, since Bighorn was also TOO CHICKEN to give the letter to Scylla, Scuba had to deliver the letter for the said buffalo. Predictably, Scylla got the wrong idea. Scuba then spent the rest of the adventure being molested by Scylla (hawt).

Beast Wars Neo comic
After the destruction of the Nemesis, Scuba went to the planet Jörmungandr with an Angolmois energy capsule. There, he transformed the native cobras into Transformers, possibly using the Angolmois. The cobras worshipped Scuba as a god, and the capsule was encased in a statue in his image. Scuba eventually left Jörmungandr for reasons unknown; native myths claimed that "the god was enraged".

IDW Beast Wars comics
Scuba was one of many crazed Transformers participating in an Angolmois-induced riot. He followed the Tako Tank after it broke down a wall, so apparently he wasn't the driver this time. The Ascending issue 4

:The original Grimlock changes from a robot into a robotic T-Rex and comes with a red energo-sword, a black double-barreled rifle, and a rocket launcher with three silver rockets.

: Grimlock was later reissued in the European/Australian-exclusive "Classics" series. In Japan, he and the other four Dinobots were offered as mail-away items during Operation Combination; Grimlock cost 2300 yen (his original retail price) and 2 robot points.
The toy is one of the most-complained-about Alternators toys, due to its notoriously finicky transformation (with many small steps that must be performed in exactly the right order) and to several pieces which have a tendency to pop off with relatively small amounts of force.
: Classics Grimlock, a gray and gold Tyrannosaurus rex, is a re-imagined form of his original toy, and is notably designed to run rather than drag (theories on the T-Rex having changed from "caveman adversary" to "Carl Lewis in lizard skin" since the Generation 1 incarnation).

:His bayonet blaster can be deployed in either mode and fires a clear red projectile. Both weapons can be stored on his back when not used. As with most Classics toys, Grimlock features a heat-sensitive rubsign, placed on the left side of the tyrannosaurus torso/his left leg.

:A common complaint about the figure is the size of the peg being too small in relation to the peg-hole, making it impossible to lock the arms into place. In addition, the bayonet blaster has a hair-trigger and for no apparent reason, his fist holes are a few fractions of a millimeter too small to accommodate standard 5mm peg accessories that most modern Transformers toys use.
:Based upon his appearance from The War Within, this version of Grimlock transforms into a Cybertronic heavy tank. This transforming partly die-cast and plastic Grimlock was initially unreleased due to the cancellation of the Transformers series of Titanium toys at retail (the line would continue on for Star Wars at the three-inch scale). Hasbro provided a sample to the toy/character concept's designer, Don Figueroa. However, Hasbro has decided to release this figure after all as a Toys-R-Us exclusive in the fall of 2008 in a two-pack, with the also-almost-unreleased War Within Prowl.
As with all Henkei toys, he lacks the heat sensitive rubsign seen on the Classics release, and instead features vacuum-metalized "chromed" plastic (in a similar gimmick to the Beast Wars Transmetals toys). The vac-metal is used on his beast mode feet, as well as the tyrannosaurus torso, which was, oddly enough, in Hasbro's original deco plan for Classics Grimlock.

: Released in March of 2009, Masterpiece Grimlock is based upon his original toy and cartoon model, transforming into an outdated view of the Tyrannosaurus rather than the more accurate depiction seen on Classics Grimlock. Besides his weapons, he also comes with a drinks serving tray and apron he carried in "Madman's Paradise" and the device he used to transfer his super-intelligence into Computron in "Grimlock's New Brain".

: Masterpiece Grimlock features the usage of die-cast metal for his dinosaur mode's toes and a LED mounted within his right fist which illuminates both his gun's barrels and his sword. As a result of said mechanism that only articulated part of his right hand is the thumb. Similarly his left hand is modeled much like Masterpiece Optimus Prime's hands with the thumb and index finger fully articulate with the remaining fingers joined together. Possibly as a show of good faith sacrificed articulation, TakaraTomy designed his alternate mode's arms to be highly poseable featuring full articulation of the claws with the arms themselves attatched to the body with ball joints. He features many gimmicks including the ability to change his eye color in either mode from red to blue with the flip of a switch found at the back of his head in robot mode, and by opening the top of his head in dino mode and switching the eyes around. This allows the owner the choice of representing the use of blue in the cartoon (and his IDW alternate mode) or the use of red in most other media including his original toy. His tail is connected to his head meaning that by wiggling and moving it, the head rotates at the basis of the neck. Pushing down on his torso in dinosaur mode, makes his legs move up higher into his torso and as a result his head will look up. His alt-mode's head also has a tiny sculpted flame thrower in its mouth, but for your safety, it does not actually breath fire.(boo)

Scrapper is one of the Constructicons. Once, he and his pal Mix were just a pair of construction vehicles, but a pair of AllSpark fragments changed all that. Though not the sharpest tool in the box, he does know construction like nobody's business. Like his compadre, he has an innate knack for grasping construction projects, and upon seeing a set of blueprints can get right to work. He doesn't want much out of life, just some oil to fill him up after a hard day's work and maybe a nice car to catcall.
Scrapper and his good buddy Mix were spontaneously brought to life by AllSpark shards embedded in them. Though not quick on the uptake, the two Constructobots were able to name themselves and quickly hit the ground running...after attractive sports cars. When Scrapper noticed a construction accident about to harm Bulkhead, he pulled over with his friend and intervened. Tidying up the construction site with a fair amount of skill, he befriended the large Autobot and pressured him into going off for an oil break...from a nearby oil tanker. After expressing his misgivings about stealing oil, Bulkhead took the two Constructobots to the old auto factory to meet the other Autobots. Scrapper and Mixmaster proved too rough around the edges even for Ratchet's tastes, and their cavorting woke up Sari Sumdac. He and Mixmaster shared a laugh over the Autobots' "pet" while Optimus Prime asked Bulkhead why he was bringing "strangers" to their base (thus proving to be none too observant in the search for AllSpark fragments himself). Scrapper then went back to drinking oil and so flubbed a catch in a game of oil-barrel-lid frisbee. The disc severed Sari's pigtails, so Scrap found himself and Mixmaster kicked out the factory by Prime.

Dejected, Mixmaster and Scrapper happened upon Blitzwing and Lugnut stealing construction supplies...very ineffectively. Once again, they intervened just before someone could get hurt, saving Blitzwing from getting creamed by the load he was carrying. Scrapper then heard approaching police sirens, which Blitzwing told them was a quitting bell, meaning they could go home. Scrap and Mixmaster indicated they didn't have a home, so their two new buddies offered to let the Constructobots come home with them, saying the pair would be welcome to stay as long as they hauled the heavy trailers of supplies. As Scrapper obligingly pushed the supply containers uphill and out of earshot, he didn't hear Blitzwing ease Lugnut's concerns about Megatron's disapproval by assuring him that he'd take the two new bots offline once the heavy lifting was done. After the load was hauled, Scrapper was all set for an oily reward, unaware Lugnut was about to use his signature punch upon him and Mixmaster, when Megatron intervened. Scrapper followed Megatron into the Decepticons' inner sanctum, where he noted that the Decepticons had a pet as well. Then Megatron had the "pet" show Scrapper the space bridge schematics. He and Mixmaster immediately knew exactly what supplies would be needed to complete the bridge, as well as where they could be obtained.

The next day, Scrapper and Mixmaster "acquired" (stole) a load of construction materials and were fleeing pursuit by Sumdac Systems police robots when they ran into Bulkhead again. Stopping the chase, Bulkhead asked them what they were doing, and the Constructobots, being trusting souls, told him. Scrapper couldn't figure out why Bulky was so upset they were working for the Decepticons until Bulkhead said Megatron was trying to put one over on them. Mix and Scrapper weren't about to stand still for that, and they sped off to settle the score. Their initial complaints didn't go over well, as the Decepticon leader proved far less gentle and jovial, slamming them up against the mountainside near the mine. When he and Mixmaster said why they were angry, though, Megatron turned on the sweet talk again, spinning a tale of Autobot oppression. This proved a bit high-concept for Scrapper, but then Megatron offered to explain it over a few barrels of oil. This proved far more Scrap and Mixmaster's speed, and soon they were guzzling away while Megatron once again pitched the space bridge project.

Showing up at the auto factory, Scrapper joined Mixmaster in revealing that they were indeed working for Megatron, since Megatron had better oil. Showing there were no hard feelings, they said they weren't about to hurt the Autobots, just come pick up the AllSpark fragments and be on their way. Optimus Prime objected, but Mixmaster called him a dipstick and knocked over the 98-ton-weakling. A fight broke out, and Scrapper tackled Prowl—without much success. Scrapper picked himself up while Mixmaster ransomed Bumblebee for the fragments. However, once Bulkhead handed over the fragments, Scrapper had no trouble accepting Bulky's offer to have "one for the road." Of course, he didn't know Bulkhead had secretly slipped him and Mixmaster some tainted oil, contaminated by the expired fixative that Bulkhead had saved. As Scrapper and Mixmaster ran off, Mix began feeling a little queasy. Scrapper teased him about not being able to hold his oil, until he started feeling the effects too. The bad oil reacted explosively, knocking out him and Mixmaster so the Autobots could reclaim the fragments. The blast also scrambled their memories, so when Scrapper came to, he didn't know who the big, angry guy was or why he was ranting about someone named Megatron and flinging his wrecking ball at them. Confused and frightened, Scrapper decided to vamoose. Rise of the Constructicons

Continuing to function, Scrapper and "Mix" resumed their obnoxious lifestyle, including oil consumption, attacking Marrmaba Brothers, Detroit's downtown auto supply store. Taking 100 barrels of motor oil with them, they quickly became the highlight of the local news, and the Autobots' attention.

Evading the police, Scrap and Mix found the trail of Bumblebee's leaking lubricant and followed it to find the source, no doubt with oil. Arriving at the undefended Autobot base, Scrapper quickly wondered how to bypass the door, but Mixmaster simply unleashed a torrent of acidic liquid, creating "a door" for them to enter. As they entered the base (quickly finding it so familiar), they ran into Sari, left behind by the Autobots. Scrap was subsequently attacked by a barrage of sound from Sari screaming after Mix asked her about where to find some local oil. Sari made her escape and trapped Scrap under a large gate, and was rescued by Mixmaster. Scrapper wanted to make an escape, but Mixmaster told him obviously Sari was hiding some primo oil, and he should grow a backhoe and follow the Autobot sidekick.

Continuing their search, they went into Sari's room and destroyed her handheld communicator, cutting her off from the Autobots. Not finding Sari, who was hiding in her bed, they continued to the Autobots' recreational area, as Scrapper admired the Autobots' large flat screen. Sari came bursting in to attack them with a hockey stick, but her plan sadly did not have a Plan B, and escaped. Mix replied she should come out, they wouldn't hurt her....much. They continued their search and found a stockpile of oil, guarded by Sari. Scrapper knew it was a trap, but was goaded by Mixmaster into getting the oil, and tripping on some oil. Scrap continued to not anger the human, but obviously Mix did not listen, and got pounded by the factory assembly line. After the beating, Mixmaster finally said NO oil could be worth this, much to Scrapper's chagrin, who had declared this all along. On the run from the Autobots once more, Scrap and Mix were intercepted by Blitzwing, who was sent by Megatron to bring them back. After giving them a barrel of the Decepticon premium oil, Blitzwing said there was plenty more where that came from. Remembering this from their prior visit with the Decepts, they then left, with Blitzwing.... Sari, No One's Home

With Megatron supervising, Scrapper and his buddy Mix later helped the Decepticons finish their space bridge. Their reward was a painful branding as part of officially becoming Decepticons themselves. When Bulkhead was captured and brought to Megatron, he begged the Constructicons for help, but thanks to the tainted oil having blanked their memories, neither Scrapper nor Mixmaster recognized him. Scrapper later suffered having to haul around some heavy spage bridge parts with Mixmaster while Bulkhead and Professor Sumdac argued over where the parts should go. He soon got sick of it and joined his buddy in an oil break. Before he could relish the moment, Starscream and a bunch of off-colored lookalikes broke into the base from above. A Bridge Too Close, Part I

Megatron ordered Scrapper to provide him backup against Starscream's clones, apparently surprising him enough that he loosened his grip and lost his prisoners. Though Mixmaster had been ordered to find Blitzwing and Lugnut, he got busy plastering Starscreams and Autobots with his cement, so Scrapper found and freed the two Decepticons instead. He later cheered on Megatron's victory (despite having no idea what this "Cybertron" thing was anyway). The Autobot ship itself then arrived to attack, and Scrapper was ordered to help Mixmaster clear rubble from around the space bridge. Things really started to fall apart when the Space Bridge malfunctioned. Scrapper was last seen with Mix, heroically trying to save the oil from a cave-in. A Bridge Too Close, Part II

Scrapper washed ashore on Dinobot Island following the oil rig explosion, but was separated from his fellow Constructicons. He wasn't alone though. One of the Dinobots had found him and Scrapper took to treating him like a pet. Naming the giant triceratops "Snarl" (guess he didn't like Slag), Scrap had talem to a more relaxing lifestyle, when Sari found him while trying to enlist in the other Dinobots help to defeat Soundwave and save her friends. After promises of some high-grade oil and a few threats, the trio sailed back to Detroit on a makeshift raft. On the way, some nutso pile of junk jumped out of the water and teamed up with them.

After coming ashore, the "Substitute Autobots" went to confront Soundwave, feeling confident because they not only outnumbered that overgrown music box, but they also had the element of surprise. Of course, when Soundwave burst out of the ground and sent the reprogrammed Autobots out to fight them, they were feeling a lot less confident. At first, the "real" Autobots kicked their substitutes' cans, until some smart thinking from the team's leader left Soundwave's control over the Autobots a bit lacking. Of course, when he was left with no one but Optimus, he regained the upper hand, picking up Snarl by the horns and slamming into the street. Scrap called out the Autobot for cruelty to Dinobots, but was quickly taken out of the fight when the two got crushed by a billboard.

After the Autobots were freed and Soundwave got his skidplate handed to him by Optimus Prime, Scrapper decided heroics was too much work for him (and no overtime), so he decided to take a long vacation. He tried to ride Snarl back to Dinobot Island, but the big lug kicked him off and forced him to drive back. Human Error, Part 2
Trivia
*Scrapper got his name from the first thing he saw, a sign that said "SCRAP". His buddy Mix thought it was too short, so they both just settled on Scrapper instead.
*Scrapper's chin looks similar to a steam shovel's scoop, befitting a Constructicon.
*Scrapper's alternate mode hearkens back to another Constructicon, while his transformation scheme (caterpillar treads into legs, loader into chest) is based on yet another.
*Scrapper starts out in a more standard construction vehicle color scheme of yellow and gray, and only switches to the classic Constructicon green and purple after becoming a Decepticon.
*Like his good pal Mix, Scrapper's following the construction tradition of showing his buttcrack.
*In vehicle mode Scrapper sometimes speaks through his bucket. Puppet show time!
*An early head design sketch depicts Scrapper as having a vehicle grill-styled moustache, mirrored cab window "glasses" and no helmet.
* In robot mode the neck of his power shovel comes out of his crotch.Three's a Crowd
* In robot mode he can transform his hand into a drill. This is likely a reference to the accessories of his alt mode basis, where the forearm of Devastator could be attached with a drill instead of a fist for a sort of battle mode.Three's a Crowd
While Skids and Donny Finkleberg attempt to locate the Cybertronian Autobots, Megatron sends the Stunticons to intercept.

Synopsis
Circuit Breaker and Walter Barnett reflect on how they captured the seven Autobots recently arrived from Cybertron. Barnett questions the need to use such force on them but Circuit Breaker rebuffs these concerns. Then, when Barnett attempts give Circuit Breaker a bonus check for the "job well done," she is insulted, proclaiming that "no amount of money could make up for what those robots did to me!"

Back in the Ark, Ratchet continues working on a wound Optimus Prime received during a recent attack on the Decepticon base. Bombshell takes advantage of this opportunity to inject Prime with a cerebro-shell. However, Bombshell finds that he is unable to control Prime, just merely monitor his thoughts. This allows Bombshell to eavesdrop on a conversation whereby Prime sends Skids and Donny Finkleberg to find out what has become of the Autobots whom have recently arrived on Earth from Cybertron. Skids secures Finkleberg's participation by taking from him a check for $25,000 that Finkleberg was paid for his services as Robot-Master. Prime then proceeds to reactivate the Aerialbots using the Creation Matrix. Thanks to Bombshell's cerebro-shell, the Decepticons are able to take advantage of this use, and via Soundwave's internal receiver, Megatron is able to simultaneously use the Creation Matrix to give life to the Stunticons.

As Skids and Finkleberg begin their search, they are delayed as they come upon a driver endangered in an accident near fallen power lines. Skids stops to save the driver (much to Finkleberg's chagrin), and the incident is reported by the local news, giving Barnett further reason to suspect that not all robots are bad. All Circuit Breaker sees is a robot on the loose that must be destroyed. She leaves to undertake this task.

Meanwhile, the Decepticons also see this news report, and send the Stunticons out to make sure that the PR damage done (by letting humans know that some Transformers are not threats) is minimalized. The Stunticons and RAAT converge upon Skids' position, and a battle ensues in the middle of heavy traffic. The Aerialbots arrive to offer Skids assistance, but they quickly become the targets of Circuit Breaker's attentions. She blasts Superion while Superion is fighting Menasor, who is left victorious. Circuit Breaker, weakened from the attack on Superion, is rescued by Barnett before Menasor can kill her, and Skids and Finkleberg escape in the confusion. Finkleberg, proclaiming himself tired, stops at a hotel, where he deactivates Skids, goes to a pay phone, and calls RAAT to turn the Autobot in for $50,000.
Items of note
* The cover to this issue celebrates the 25th Anniversary of Marvel Comics. All Marvel Comics issues put out this month had this border and featured portrait shots of the main character in the comic. Rather than Optimus Prime or Megatron, Menasor was chosen as the character to represent Transformers.
* Bombshell's cerebro-shell fails to allow Bombshell to control Optimus Prime. Instead, Bombshell can only monitor Prime's thoughts. This fits in with the description of Bombshell's abilities given in the four-issue limited series Transformers Universe which suggests that an individual of very strong will is able to resist the mind-controlling aspects of the cerebro-shell — as Ricky Vasquez did in the previous Marvel US issue.
* Apparently, the Autobots killed the Aerialbots (including Silverbolt!) after last issue, in order to complete their personality programming! (Silverbolt's programming was already completed, though.)
* The Stunticon bodies are already built. One must assume that part of Bombshell's purpose in controlling Optimus Prime was for the purpose of gaining control of the Creation Matrix.
* References to past issues:
* The wound Bombshell uses to invade Prime with a cerebro-shell was the one he received in issue #19. For more information about this injury, see issue #21.

UK Printing
* Page 12 of this story was edited to provide a better cliffhanger for issue #91. The order of the last couple of panels was changed, so that the issue ends with Motormaster slashing a semi's cargo trailer. There's also a slight text edit, so Motormaster doesn't repeat the line "I see him".

* Issue #91 features a review of The Transformers: The Movie by Grimlock. As one would expect, it's very even-handed and unbiased. He was very careful to point out all the movie's good points, though. Like... uhmmm... the Dinobots are in it.
* The Robo-Capers comic strip in issue #91 also features Grimlock strutting his stuff (as seen to the left) since he's become a movie star. Pillock.
:Blackarachnia is a Decepticon from the Transformers Animated continuity family. She was previously known as Elita-1 and is also known as Spider Lady.

:

In another life, she was Elita-1, an energetic, spunky Autobot Academy cadet. That was until a fateful trip to an alien world, where her teammates abandoned her to a horde of alien spiders. Now calling herself Blackarachnia, she hates her new body with a passion. Her loathing of her organic parts is slowly driving her insane, and she will do anything to get rid of it, no matter whom she has to crush in her path. Her mutation fueled a newfound hatred of the Autobot cause and a quest for revenge that led her to join Megatron in his war against them. However, she does not appear overly loyal to her leader.

In her hybrid organic form, she makes use of her newfound 'cyber venom' to paralyze her enemies, and combines this with her natural ability to download and mimic other Transformers' traits and weaponry for a limited amount of time with a simple touch. Hope nobody told Lockdown.

Blackarachnia was previously known as Elita-1. A thousand stellar cycles ago Elita and her teammates were exploring an alien world, looking for a Decepticon ship filled with energon. They accidentally fell into a series of caves. They were ambushed by giant spiders and, when escaping the massive energon explosion caused by the battle, Elita ended up being left behind. When she tried using her ability to borrow powers from other beings, she was injected by the spiders' venom, turning her into the hideous freak she is now. Because of her new, semi-organic nature, her signal did not appear on Optimus's radar, leading him and Sentinel to believe that she had perished in the explosion. Along Came a Spider

When the AllSpark was found by a group of Autobots, Blackarachnia was aboard the Nemesis with the other Decepticons, annoyed at Lugnut's emphatic, vocal loyalty to Megatron. She even suggested that Lugnut's speech of praise was hardwired into his mind. She also had conflict with Blitzwing, who touched a sore point by insulting her organic mode. Her retort to "blow it out your actuator, three-face" angered Blitzwing to the point that he...began to express his feelings in song. Later, at Megatron's orders, she scanned the Autobots' ship to determine the nature of their high-energy cargo. She confirmed the Autobots were carrying the AllSpark, or at least something just as powerful. When the Autobots escaped and it became clear the Nemesis was going to crash into an exploding space bridge, Blackarachnia fled in an escape pod. Transform and Roll Out

Fifty stellar cycles later, while searching space for any trace of the AllSpark in the hope that she could use its power to purge herself of her organic mode, Blackarachnia stumbled across Starscream, still operating out of the battered shell of the Nemesis. Realizing that Starscream was searching for the AllSpark as well, Blackarachnia proposed an alliance, but Starscream proved uninterested in sharing power and promptly booted her out into space. Before being ejected, however, Blackarachnia was able to plant a homing device on Starscream, The Arrival issue 1 and eventually tracked the beacon to Earth. At first setting down on Earth's moon to investigate the crashed hulk of the Nemesis, Blackarachnia ran afoul of the bounty hunter Lockdown, who had been hired by Blitzwing to hunt down Optimus Prime. Not willing to risk the bounty hunter finding the AllSpark before her, Blackarachnia attempted to dissuade him from investigating Earth, but Lockdown didn't take kindly to her interference, and the pair wound up battling. During the fight, Blackarachnia used her download ability on Lockdown, knocking him out, but she was immediately overwhelmed by the sheer number of powers and modifications she wound up taking from him, and passed out herself. Blackarachnia was first to awake, however, and hid herself aboard Lockdown's ship, so that when the bounty hunter finally came to and headed for Earth, she was able to hitch a free ride to the planet. A Few Loose Strands

After arriving on Earth, Blackarachnia stalked Bumblebee, Bulkhead, and Sari on Halloween night. Once she took out the boys, she attempted to sweet-talk Sari into handing over her AllSpark-powered key, but Optimus Prime arrived to intervene. Using Bulkhead and Bumblebee's stolen powers to overcome Optimus, Blackarachnia captured Sari and web-swung her way to the top of a skyscraper, with Prime in hot pursuit. In the ensuing fight, Prime finally realized who Blackarachnia truly was. Exploiting the opening, Blackarachnia bound Prime in her web amd seized Sari's key, activating its power in hopes of become fully mechanical. However, the energies unleashed caused any organic life in range, including Sari (and presumably any other fleshy), to shrivel and sicken. It almost killed Blackarachnia, but Optimus Prime pulled the Key out, restoring the organics. Prime tried to reason with "Elita", asking her to come with them in the hopes of curing her, but Blackarachnia stabbed him, saying that it would be a long time before she trusted him again. After she knocked out Prime, she cried her four eyes out. Along Came a Spider

Later, she again kidnapped Sari, who was running away after having the Key taken away from her. When she heard about the Key and how Sari felt totally mistrusted by the Autobots, Blackarachnia played on the girl's sympathies by saying she knew how Sari felt. Blackarachnia noted how she was not a Decepticon until after the Autobots turned their backs on her, and how the AllSpark's power was the only thing that could cure her current form. Despite being kidnapped again and nearly being killed by Blackarachnia's previous use of the Key, Sari appeared to start seeing eye to eye with her captor. Megatron Rising - Part 1

At least, that was what she wanted Blackarachnia to believe. Leading her around in circles over the frozen Lake Erie, Sari was finally forced to admit that the Autobots' ship, which contained the AllSpark, was underwater. Blackarachnia's organic half couldn't survive the icy underwater; incensed, she prepared to kill Sari. Ratchet brought the ship up through the ice, and Sari bit Blackarachnia's hand, showing that her organic half couldn't withstand teeth, causing her to drop Sari and allow Ratchet to grab her and get in the ship. As Blackarachnia tried to force the door open, the vessel accelerated, and Blackarachnia was thrown off the ship. Megatron Rising - Part 2

Washing ashore on Dinobot Island, Blackarachnia was taken in by the Dinobots, who gave her Meltdown's former base as a home. Using her charms, Blackarachnia was able to manipulate the Dinobots into doing anything she wanted. Grimlock was particularly attached to her, and reminded the other Dinobots of this through violence. Going over Meltdown's notes, she realized that he would be able to remove the organic half from her body. She sent the Dinobots to release him from prison, causing the Autobots to come investigating. Blackarachnia then poisoned Bumblebee and Prowl with her venom, and used the "promise" of an anti-venom to blackmail Optimus into helping Grimlock find the genetic modifier Meltdown needed for the experiment. Unfortunately, Meltdown turned the tables on them when the modifier was his, planning on removing Blackarachnia's technological half and leaving him with an organic transformer. Optimus was able to stop Meltdown before he succeeded, but the modifier was damaged and Meltdown presumed killed. Needing escape, Blackarachnia urged Optimus to hold her, causing Grimlock to attack in jealousy, and Blackarachnia fled. However, it appears that Blackarachnia left the anti-venom needed to save Bumblebee and Prowl beside them. This gave Optimus hope that beneath all of Blackarachnia's anger and manipulation, there was still something left of Elita-1 in there. Black Friday (episode)

Still taking refuge in Meltdown's abandoned laboratory, Blackarachnia began experimenting with transwarp energy to create new techno-organic beings to experiment on in an attempt to purge her organic elements, the idea being if she could turn another techno-organic purely robotic, she could do the same to herself. Most of her early attempts proved fruitless, until Swoop was able to capture the perfect test subject: the renegade Autobot Wasp. Tempting him with both her feminine wiles and promises of power great enough to achieve revenge on the bots who betrayed him, she coaxed him into being experimented on, fittingly merging him with the DNA of a wasp.

While Wasp was being turned techno-organic, her old friend Sentinel Prime stumbled upon the lab and was disgusted to find a robot with an organic mode. He was even more shocked when she revealed that they had a past: she was his old friend Elita-1. Disgusted by her mutation, Sentinel was willing to "put her out of her misery", and during a scuffle knocked Blackarachnia's helmet off, allowing him to see her true, partially organic face. After Wasp's transformation into Waspinator was complete, Blackarachnia revealed her plans to Sentinel and Optimus. Unfortunately, Waspinator was within earshot when she revealed what little regard she had for his life. Hurt by this betrayal, the now physically unstable Waspinator issued Blackarachnia an ultimatum: either fix him or be destroyed. She tried to escape, but once it was revealed that the transwarp energies responsible for his creation were going critical and about to cause a huge explosion, Blackarachnia surrounded herself and Waspinator in her webbing, shielding the Autobots from the explosion and seemingly leading to her final demise.

However, when she awoke, she was in a strange jungle, in front of a group of organic creatures that looked rather surprised to see their new guests. Predacons Rising
Notes
* A non-final character model for Blackarachnia was included in the initial Transformers Animated press kit from Cartoon Network, was used briefly (in silhouette) for her first appearance in "Transform and Roll Out", and appears on the Deluxe figure's packaging. Though the toy shares the non-final model's spider-leg placement in robot mode, black belly, dark purple skin, and yellow Decepticon symbol, the rest of the toy adheres much more closely to the finished model.
*The initial Transformers Animated press kit from Cartoon Network also said that Blackarachnia's techno-organic state was caused by "an encounter with the ALLSPARK" in the past. Given her actual in-show origin, either this was an early idea for the character, or the press release writer was misinformed.
* Her toy head is actually a helmet that was lying around in the wrecked Decepticon warship where she had her accident. After seeing her without it in "Predacons Rising", you can see why she wore it.
* So far, Blackarachnia's the only major Transformer character not to have a detailed on-screen transformation.
* Blackarachnia can swing off of tall, unseen buildings, with webbing that shoots out of her hands. Wow, we've never seen that befo—wait a minute...
* As Elita-1, her head seems to be based on the pony-tailed Ariel, the younger form of Elita One, while her body's ornamentation homages Elita One herself.
* The hidden mutant face recalls the gimmick used by the first wave of deluxe-class Beast Wars figures, including the original Blackarachnia.
Bulkhead befriends a pair of construction vehicles brought to life by AllSpark energy. But the Decepticons have their scanners set on the duo for their latest construction project.

Synopsis
The Autobots once again must aid in the restoration of the increasingly disaster-prone city of Detroit. There is an odd amount of balking, considering they're a space bridge repair crew, but Optimus Prime reminds them that a fair amount of the destruction is indeed their fault. These musings are cut short by Bumblebee spotting the other party to Detroit's deterioration, the Decepticons. Blitzwing and Lugnut are scurrying by in a most undignified manner, carrying construction supplies for Megatron. A combined effort by Bumblebee and Ratchet manages to knock the two Decepticons skidplate-over-processing unit, but they still manage to flee with a much smaller portion of the supplies. The Autobots are prevented from giving chase by the cracking of a bridge support, which they then repair. At the end of the day, the Autobots are ready to head home. Bulkhead tells Optimus Prime he'll catch up, to mask the fact that he's accidentally adhered his feet to the ground with cement.

Meanwhile, across town, two construction vehicles are seen with AllSpark fragments embedded in them. The two fragments activate, and the machines gain sentience. After a brief debate over naming, they discover their new ability to turn into giant robots. This does not faze them in the slightest, and soon they chase off after a highly attractive sports car.

Thanks to the use of expired fixative, Bulkhead's attempts at mixing more cement prove explosive, knocking him out and nearly getting him skewered by iron girders. Thankfully, the newly minted Constructobots spot this and save his skidplate. They then help the lumbering Autobot to do the job right (making sure he doesn't leave the fixative lying around, either) and then take him off to a tanker for an oil break. Though Bulkhead is quite pleased with the oil he is served, he soon voices misgivings as to whether they ought to be doing this. Asked by the Constructobots whether he's going to act like a little yellow compact, he remembers his friends back at the base and invites his new acquaintances back to meet them.

At the base, the Autobots are not impressed with the crass pair. Loudly carousing to the point that even Ratchet thinks they're a bit rude, they soon wake up Sari. Wondering what all the commotion is, the poor girl gets her pigtails amputated by a game of smashed-oil-barrel frisbee. This is the last straw for Optimus Prime, who kicks the two paisanos out on their keisters.

The next day, Blitzwing and Lugnut are once again hauling heavy construction materials, this time Laurel and Hardy style up a steep hill. Blitzwing's footing slips, and he is nearly offlined by the heavy trailer that sends him careening towards a wall. Bracing for an impact that never comes, he is startled to find Mixmaster and Scrapper have saved him. Immediately, he asks them who and what they are. At first, the jovial pair answer that they are Autobots, but as this is met with some static, they quickly amend it to Constructobots. Blitzwing sees an opportunity in the pair's brawn, and as police sirens approach, he convinces them to help haul the load. Lugnut objects, worried about Megatron's reaction. Blitzwing reassures him, sotto voce, that they will offline the two goombahs immediately after the work is done. Lugnut is all for this plan, and once the goods are delivered, he charges up the Punch Of Kill Everything while Blitzwing distracts the pair. However, Megatron arrives and gives Lugnut an awful case of punchus interruptus.

Megatron invites the Constructobots into the Decepticon inner sanctum, which they would find to be quite commodious if they knew the meaning of the word. Once there, they express how cute Megatron's pet is, and the interstellar warlord shows them the schematics he stole from the Autobots' ship for the building of a space bridge. His hunch turns out to be correct when he finds that the Constructobots display an intuitive knack for grasping construction projects, and they tell him that the supplies he's been gathering will be insufficient to the task. Megatron grins as they reveal to him that they know exactly what is needed and where to get it.

The following morning, Bulkhead goes looking for his wayward friends. He finds them, pursued by Sumdac Systems police robots after a daring heist of construction supplies. Stepping in and generally making a mess of the pursuers, he asks Mixmaster and Scrapper what they're up to. After being told that they stole these materials, he becomes irate because he thought they were so helpful before. They tell him they still are, they're just helping other bots. Becoming suspicious, Bulkhead presses them further and finds out they're working for Blitzwing and Lugnut. The large Autobot tries to convince them that the Decepticons are bad news, but is less than effective. The Constructobots think the Decepticons are just regular fellas and that Megatron is a laugh riot. Bulkhead grows still angrier, saying that Megatron is the worst of the bunch and was only tricking them. This finally clicks in their heads, and they drop what they're doing—on Bulkhead—and tear off down the road to take up their grievances with Megatron. Covered in girders, Bulkhead is unable to pursue.

Upon discovering the Constructobots pounding on the steel door of the mine, Megatron is a bit less genial in tolerating their antics. Picking them up by their collars, he slams them against the mountainside and demands to know what they're doing. They explain that they want a piece of him because Bulkhead told them that Decepticons are the scum of the universe and that he'd tricked them. Megatron softens his demeanor and tells a tragic tale of Autobot oppression and the Decepticons being driven from their homeworld by these cruel tyrants. The Constructobots only understand about every third word of what he says, so he submits it would be a little easier to understand over a barrel of oil. Once inside, Mixmaster and Scrapper are quite impressed by the potency of the oil they're offered, which Megatron reveals to be his "special blend". Suitably placated, they listen to his pitch in which he stresses that as Constructobots, they can spend their lives fixing highway bridges, but as Constructicons, they can build space bridges and be the heroes of millions of Cybertronians.

Back at the auto assembly plant, Bulkhead is relaying his latest encounter with the Constructobots to his fellow Autobots. This doesn't go over well, so he attempts to convince Optimus Prime that his friends were actually angry at the Decepticons and that there's nothing to worry about, as afterwards they can lead the Autobots to the Decepticon base. Ratchet, however, worries that they'll do the exact opposite. Right on cue, Scrapper and Mixmaster arrive. Bulkhead is initially hopeful, as they are still his friends. The two bots agree with him, but business is business, and Megatron has better oil. Thus they say that they won't fight anyone, so long as they can pick up the fragments of the AllSpark and be on their way. Optimus Prime objects, and the Constructicons announce that they're sick and tired of the little dipstick and knock him over. A fight ensues, in which the industrial chassis of the Constructicons prove fairly impervious to most of what the Autobots can dish out. Bumblebee is taken hostage and ransomed for the AllSpark fragments. Optimus attempts to stall, but Bulkhead hands them over. As all the Autobots look on in disbelief, he encourages his old friends to have "one for the road." They partake in the offered oil and depart.

The Autobots give chase, berating Bulkhead for trusting them. The large Autobot, however, states simply that the Constructicons aren't going anywhere. His plan is revealed as Mixmaster and Scrapper start to slow down, emitting smoke and having increasing trouble running. Soon, there is an explosion, and the AllSpark fragments' container lands at Bulkhead's feet. He had tainted the oil with the expired chemicals from his earlier botched repair job. Bulkhead confronts his former friends, but the blast has scrambled their memory. Confused and frightened, they haul tail out of there. The not-so-gentle giant is disappointed, but Optimus reminds him that even if they've lost their memories, they still have a choice not to serve Megatron.
Animation or technical errors
* When Ratchet tells Bumblebee to "vamoose" (around 1:30), Bumblebee has a red Decepticon insignia. Goldbug in disguise?
* When Bulkhead frees his foot from the cement, his jaw appears out of alignment, then realigns itself.
* When Bulkhead is jumping at the idea of Mix and Scrapper meeting the Autobots, Scrapper's left arm clips through his body, then the forearm briefly vanishes before his arm reappears in the correct place.
* As Megatron explains the Autobots' "cunning" to Mixmaster and Scrapper, the white outline around his insignia is not complete (either that or it's part of a shadow).
* After the Constructicons flee, the road Bulkhead smashed up is in perfect condition.

Transformers references
*Megatron corrupting the Constructicons may also be a nod to the Generation 1 series, in which he did the same thing in "The Secret of Omega Supreme". Except, instead of using the Robo-Smasher, this time he gets them robo-smashed...

* The two surveyors on top of the bridge are decked out in blue jeans, white shirts, tan jackets and yellow hard hats and boots, just like a disproportionate amount of humans from the Generation 1 cartoon.

* A construction crane which appears in a few scenes early in
the episode is colored in the traditional Constructicon green-and-purple. Purple and green excavation vehicles were previously seen in "Nature Calls", and yet the Animated Constructicons themselves are yellow and grey, which might be an homage to the Generation 2 Constructicon toys.

*Scrapper and Mixmaster hit on a little red sports car. Sound familiar?

*Blitzwing's complaining about hauling heavy loads recalls another Constructicon member.

*Constructicons cheating an Autobot has happened once before.

Real-world references
* The Constructicons often hit on cars (which could be the equivalent for them to female 'bots...or something), just like real cartoon construction workers with passing women.
* The Constructicons beep as they back up.
* The whole plot seems to be pretty thoroughly cribbed from every after-school special on the dangers of peer pressure ever...except with giant robots, attempted murder, extortion, and a plot to overthrow one interstellar empire and reestablish another.
* While the "working-class" Constructicons drink their oil out of "goblets".
* Mixmaster and Scrapper have a very loose resemblance to Luigi (respectively), mostly in build. Their vaguely Italian-American accents are more native New Yorker than the plumbers' immigrant accents, though.

Trivia
* It was revealed at 2008 that much of Scrapper and Mixmaster's dialogue was actually ad-libbed by their respective actors Tom Kenny and Jeff Glen Bennett.
* This episode first aired in Dubai, around two weeks before its English-language broadcast premiere in Canada.
* It seems that in the Animated-verse, yellow eyes represent the neutral position. Good to know there is a Switzerland equivalent on Cybertron.
* The Constructicons first start off as Constructobots, a portmanteau of "construction" and "Autobot", but later Megatron gives them a new name, formed from "construction" and "Decepticon" instead.
* Even assuming the Constructicons don't drink anything off-screen, they still consume what looks like half their weight in oil over the course of the episode. Where does it go?
* On second thought, don't think about it.
* Bumblebee receives a detailed transformation sequence for his stingers...which becomes extremely anticlimactic when his attacks just bounce off Lugnut seconds later. Likewise, Prowl commences his attack against Scrapper with a sequence showing him deploying his throwing stars, but he has better success hand-to-hand, after the stars ricochet harmlessly.
* Assuming oil prices didn't somehow decrease by the twenty-second century, the "snack" the Constructicons took was worth several hundred dollars. Shouldn't the world be out of oil by then, anyway? Then again, Mixmaster mentions "synthetic junk", which implies a way of creating artificial oil may have been invented.

Blackarachnia acts differently around robots of the opposite "sex" depending on faction; she's biting and sarcastic towards the Decepticons, but seductive and manipulative towards the Autobots. However, these appear to be but shells worn by a being who desperately wants to be normal again.

After she took out Bumblebee and Bulkhead, she attempted to sweet-talk Sari into handing over her AllSpark-powered key, but Optimus Prime arrived to intervene.

Blackarachnia acts differently around robots of the opposite "sex" depending on faction; she's biting and sarcastic towards the Decepticons, but seductive and manipulative towards the Autobots. However, these appear to be but shells worn by a being who desperately wants to be normal again.

Transform and Roll Out!

The Arrival issue 4

After arriving on Earth, Blackarachnia stalked Bumblebee, Bulkhead, and Sari on Halloween night. After she took out Bumblebee and Bulkhead, she attempted to sweet-talk Sari into handing over her AllSpark-powered key, but Optimus Prime arrived to intervene.

BA noted how she was not a Decepticon until after the Autobots turned their backs on her, and how the AllSpark's power was the only thing that could cure her current form. Despite being kidnapped again and nearly being killed by Blackarachnia's previous use of the Key, Sari appeared to start seeing eye to eye with her captor. Megatron Rising - Part I

At least, that was what she wanted Blackarachnia to believe. Leading her around in circles over the frozen Lake Erie, Sari was finally forced to admit that the Autobots' ship, which contained the AllSpark, was underwater. Blackarachnia's organic half couldn't survive the icy underwater; incensed she prepared to kill Sari. Megatron Rising - Part II

:Wasp is an Autobot from the Transformers Animated continuity family. After a freak mutation, he took the name Waspinator.

Wasp is a lot like Bumblebee...physically, at least. Built from the same chassis and sharing many of the same specifications and subroutines, the two Autobots attended boot camp together. Wasp's pompous, smarmy personality leaves something to be desired, but he had a lot going for him as a soldier, being highly skilled in the use of his stingers and knowing just how to toe the line with the drill sergeant. In a better life, he might have been Cybertron Elite Guard commander material.

Might have.

These days, though, Wasp is a broken bot, mentally unstable and on the run from the Autobots who have branded him a traitor. What little remains of his mind is focused on just one goal...destroying Bumblebee, the bot who ruined his life!

Wasp was a cadet in the same group as Bumblebee, Bulkhead, Ironhide and Longarm. Right away, Wasp took a dislike to Bumblebee, insulting him out of the blue as the yellow bot mused to himself about his future in the Elite Guard. He also dubbed Bulkhead a "mudflap", much to the amusement of his fellow cadets. The loud-mouthed drill sergeant Sentinel Minor took an immediate liking to "Wasp", as he dubbed him. Wasp and Ironhide quickly became close friends, often competing in little tests of strength, usually involving Wasp hitting or stinging Ironhide while the latter was in armor mode.

After Bumblebee "bumbled" several times, leading to many transform-ups for the whole group, Wasp and Ironhide decided to take matters into their own hands, unscrewing Bumblebee's lower legs and leaving them out of reach even before they dumped the rest of him in a locker.

Unbeknownst to Wasp, however, the reason for Bumblebee's foul-ups was that he was trying to out a traitor in the group—and had pegged Wasp as the likely culprit after seeing him walk out of a hangar in which someone had contacted Megatron. (Plus, let's face it, he was a complete jerk. And Decepticons are jerks, right?) At Longarm's prompting, Bumblebee eventually found evidence incriminating Wasp as a spy. Wasp was stripped of his Autobot insignia and wheeled away, protesting his innocence and swearing revenge on Bumblebee.

Many years later, Wasp escaped from Autobot custody and apparently eluded the now-Sentinel Prime by jumping through a space bridge. What was left of Wasp hid beneath the bridge as Sentinel left, buzzing and twittering to himself, still swearing revenge on "Bumblebot". In reality, however, the innocent bot—broken mentally by his years of imprisonment—had been set up with evidence planted by "Longarm", who had also arranged Wasp's "escape" to divert suspicion from himself. Autoboot Camp

Needless to say, when the truth was revealed to Bumblebee by his old "friend", Longarm Prime (aka the Decepticon Shockwave), he took it pretty hard. A Bridge Too Close, Part II

Wasp headed straight for the Autobots' base on Earth, with Sentinel Prime and Jazz in pursuit. Waiting until Bumblebee was left alone on monitor duty (and actually playing Ninja Gladiator instead), he struck during a power outage, knocking Bumbleebee cold and switching color schemes, helmets and even speech synthesizers with his rival. When Bumblebee came to, the others had returned and had him prisoner, with the disguised Wasp at their side. Despite Bumblebee's muffled cries, the Autobots fell for Wasp's ruse, forcing Bumblebee to flee into the night. Wasp stayed behind as the others tracked Bumblebee down, allowing him to try beating Bumblebee's video game and to search through Bumblebee's personal files.

When the others returned, joined by Sentinel, Jazz, Jetfire and Jetstorm, Wasp was able to recount several of Bumblebee's adventures which were logged in his files to keep the Autobots confused as to which bot was which. Unfortunately for Wasp, Bulkhead proposed the two battle against each other in in Ninja Gladiator, so that Bumblebee's video game skills would be readily apparent and the traitor revealed. Before their video game could begin, Wasp panicked and attacked Bumblebee, holding him hostage so he could make his escape. Wasp left Bumblebee with one final indignity, turning off the electronic paintjob he'd installed in Bee and stealing his helmet back...tricking Bulkhead into pummeling the real Bumblebee while Wasp fled. Where Is Thy Sting?
*Waspinator (Deluxe class, 2009)

:Despite his cartoon origins, Waspinator is not a redeco or retooling of Bumblebee. Part of the sixth wave of Animated Deluxe-class toys, Waspinator transforms from a techno-organic wasp into a techno-organic, four-armed, winged robot that resembles his Beast Wars namesake, only far freakier-looking. In both modes, a lever on the thorax flaps his wings back and forth.

Notes
*A wasp and a bee, sharing the same mold? How preposterous!

*Wasp's time in prison seems to have shattered his mind and transformed him into a character akin to Waspinator of Beast Wars fame. Both of these bots have mishap sprung upon them, but this character's misfortune is in a more serious vein than slapstick violence. The role of whipping boy is another's.

*The small, vestigial arms present on the Deluxe Waspinator toy's robot mode torso have their origin in an early design concept for Lockdown; the bounty hunter robot's character model was subsequently altered to make his appearance less monstrous, but Derrick Wyatt loved the concept of the vestigial arms enough to incorporate them instead into Waspinator's design.

*The Deluxe Waspinator toy's packaging states that he is able to survive being blown to pieces, which harks back to the original's propensity for continually getting blasted to bits and yet surviving and coming back seemingly unscathed each time.

*Wasp as Waspinator is huge to Bumblebee's small size. Now that is a Big Green Insetic.
