The other Decepticons don't care much for '''Blitzwing'''. Oh, they can respect that he's an absolute terror on the battlefield, using his triple-changing ability to maximum effect. Few things are more destructive and demoralizing to an enemy force than a ''tank'' landing on your front line at Mach 2. Blitzwing changes forms rapidly in battle to keep his opponents off-balance at all times. And through it all, he's laughing like a madman, because frag it, it's just ''funny'' to him.

What makes him such a pain to his teammates is that Blitzwing's sense of humor rivals even [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]]'s for brainless thuggery. He's an unlikable, blustering, loudmouthed jerk to everyone. The Decepticons as a group may be an unpleasant bunch, but Blitzwing takes the cake, platter, and tablecloth, and has ground the table underfoot.

In at least [[Blitzwing (Animated)|one universe]] though, components of Blitzwing's abrasive personality seem to be splitting and amplifying; sometimes his cold-sparked strategic side is forefront, other times he remains consumed with raging bloodlust, and others, he's just plain I-think-I'm-hilarious bat-scrap loco. You never know which of the three you're going to have to deal with at any given moment, as he will even change in mid-sentence... but all three outcomes are going to be unpleasant in some way. Thankfully for [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]], the Decepticon berserker is easy to manipulate, given Blitzwing's unstable mind.

Blitzwing appeared out of nowhere to join [[Megatron (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Megatron]]'s forces on [[Earth]] in 1985, and was first seen on a mission to steal [[energon]] from [[Dinobot Island (G1)|Dinobot Island]]. {{storylink|Dinobot Island, Part 1}} The [[Autobot]]s eventually arrived to halt their scheme, and Blitzwing got into a tank duel with [[Warpath (G1)|Warpath]]. {{storylink|Dinobot Island, Part 2}}

Later adventures of Blitzwing included joining Megatron and [[Shawn Berger]] in an attempt to exile the Autobots from Earth via bad publicity (it failed). {{storylink|Megatron's Master Plan, Part 2}} After that, he was seen suffering from [[cybertonium]] depletion just like everybody else, {{storylink|Desertion of the Dinobots, Part 1}} then fighting Warpath again and coating himself in [[electrum]]. {{storylink|The Golden Lagoon (episode)|The Golden Lagoon}}

Blitzwing and a team of other Decepticons came searching for the [[robotic insecticide]] the Autobots had come up with, but when they came to the valley, they found it full of [[Morphobot]]s. After the Autobots arrived to pick up [[Cosmos (G1)|Cosmos]], Megatron ordered [[Dirge (G1)|Dirge]], [[Ramjet (G1)|Ramjet]], and Blitzwing to attack. However, the Morphobots ended up incapacitating the Decepticons and slammed them on the ground. {{storylink|Quest for Survival}}

For someone as powerful as he is, Blitzwing did not have the best track record when it comes to decision-making. First, he and fellow [[Triple Changer]] [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] decided to do away with both Megatron and [[Starscream (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Starscream]] and strike out on their own in search of fame, fortune, and energon. While this would normally be considered suicidal, the two Triple Changers somehow pulled it off and were free to finally do whatever it took to wipe out those pesky Autobots once and for all.

The way they chose to do this, however, did not do much to inspire confidence in their abilities. While his partner went off to play with some trains, Blitzwing's personal strategy for victory was to kidnap a [[football coach]] under the mistaken impression that the human was some kind of master strategist. Blitzwing brought the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]] in on his plan, and used them to build a maze surrounding the entry to his base/stadium. To Blitzwing's credit, a lot of the Autobots crashed into each other (and required more extensive repairs once he got to them), but soon, the Constructicons demanded a share of the leadership, and then Astrotrain arrived. All three were beaten so quickly by Megatron that it was almost embarrassing, and Blitzwing crept carefully back to the [[Decepticon]] ranks, hoping that nobody would remember what had happened. {{storylink|Triple Takeover}}

Not long afterwards, Megatron was impressed by [[Chumley|Lord Chumley]]'s Autobot-capturing skills, and sent Blitzwing and Astrotrain to negotiate a deal with the human. Shortly after arriving at Chumley's castle, Blitzwing got himself caught in a trap meant for [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]], and Chumley [[Chumley's arachnoid drones|captured]] both Triple Changers for getting in the way of his Autobot hunting. After all of his traps failed, Chumley released Blitzwing and Astrotrain as a last ditch attempt to capture Prime, but they just tried to stomp him to death before flying back home. {{storylink|Prime Target (episode)|Prime Target}}

A [[Size changing|strangely-enormous Blitzwing]] served as transport when the [[Stunticon (G1)|Stunticons]] captured Perceptor, who had created [[Corrostop|the cure]] for [[Cosmic Rust (disease)|a disease Megatron had picked up]]. Although Blitzwing was stalked by the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]], a [[Lightning Bug]] attack from Dirge and Ramjet stalled them so Blitzwing could safely make it back to Decepticon headquarters. {{storylink|Cosmic Rust (episode)|Cosmic Rust}}

Blitzwing was also present during [[Battle of Autobot City|the infamous assault]] on [[Autobot City (G1)|Autobot City]] in 2005, where he was at the head of the first attack. Together with [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]], he battled [[Hot Rod (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Hot Rod]] and [[Kup (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Kup]] at [[Lookout Mountain]], a fight that did not go in his favour (Kup being surprisingly nimble for an old guy). Blitzwing is also shown participating in the general carnage at Autobot City a short time later, and is one of the several Decepticons who ran afoul of Optimus Prime. Unlike his less fortunate comrades, Blitzwing was able to avoid getting run over, and even managed to shoot back a little before Prime beat him, which is more than most Decepticons expect when facing Optimus Prime. In fact, Blitzwing made it through the entire battle more or less intact, which meant he got to ride all the way to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] without anyone trying to kick him out the back door when he wasn't looking. This is exactly what happened to Megatron, however, and Blitzwing's old desire for leadership blossomed back up as he joined in on the scuffle for leadership that followed. When the [[Quintesson]]s arrived on [[Chaar]] to bribe the [[Decepticon]] army with promises of [[energon]] and revenge, Blitzwing was the only one of his comrades to turn down their offers. He had met their kind before (or at least he thought they seemed familiar to him for [[Overcharge (G1)|''some'' reason]]) and did not trust them, though he could not remember why. Upon the triumphant return of [[Galvatron (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Galvatron]], Blitzwing was the only Decepticon left to greet him. {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 3}}

Later, during an assault on Cybertron, it was Blitzwing who discovered that the Quintessons were lying to Galvatron and plotting to destroy all Transformers (instead of just the Autobots, which Blitzwing had no problems with). He tried to report this to Galvatron, but when he could not convince the Decepticon leader, he turned to [[Hot Rod (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Rodimus Prime]] for help. Together, Blitzwing and Rodimus were able to stop the [[Sharkticon (G1)|Sharkticon]] commando team that had infiltrated Cybertron. Galvatron, unfortunately, suspected that Blitzwing was trying to betray the Decepticons and steal the "[[Decepticon Matrix|Decepticon Matrix of Leadership]]" for himself and threw the Quintessons' [[Large switch|nullifying switch]], deactivating Transformers galaxy-wide until [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike Witwicky]] destroyed it. With the Quintessons' deception revealed, Galvatron attempted to renew hostilities with Rodimus, but Blitzwing drew his weapon and targeted Galvatron, stating that the battle was over for now. There, he met the future version of himself, who dubbed the Overcharge "Blitzwing" and told him to forge his own destiny after hearing his past self's laments that he didn't know what to do without orders from his master, who abandoned him. Later, Blitzwing, Starscream, and Megatron attacked the Japanese city of [[Yokohama]], causing destruction using Megatron's "Super Megatron Gun" form. Warpath stood against them, but Blitzwing simply charged onwards, crushing the [[Mini Vehicle]] under his tracks. Blitzwing was amongst the Decepticons who attacked the ''[[Trigger]]'' as it neared completion. They took it over easily, thanks in part to the human collaborator, [[Trov]]. One human, [[Makoto (Star Gate)|Makoto]], had been overlooked by the Decepticons however, and managed to pin down Blitzwing and the rest of the group under Megatron's command in the ''Trigger''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s rail room with a powerful electromagnetic field. Blitzwing was almost sent hurdling to the farthest side of the galaxy by the ''Trigger'', but a blast from Megatron's fusion cannon disabled the portal. Then the Autobots showed up, and the two factions began their battle aboard the space station. The Decepticons lost the fight and fled. {{storylink|First Contact (Star Gate)|First Contact}}

Blitzwing helped Megatron and Starscream fight off a squad of Autobots who had stumbled upon the Decepticons’ latest Energon-gathering scheme. He was ordered to provide Astrotrain with cover fire as the Decepticon shuttle retreated with the Decepticons’ newly acquired supply of Energon cubes. {{storylink|Activation}}

A duplicate of Starscream then showed up and swiped the entirety of the Energon cache, before disappearing with the other Starscream. Blitzwing was later amongst the Decepticons Megatron brought to the ''Trigger'' to confront the two Starscreams conspiring against the Decepticon leader. When Starscream combined himself with the ''Trigger'' to create a powerful new body for himself, Blitzwing had to contend with the volley of asteroids thrown towards both Autobots and Decepticons from Starscream's star gate. In a rare occasion of being separated from Astrotrain and Octane, Blitzwing was set with patrolling [[Chaar]]'s perimeter and guard it from intruders. [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] and [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]] sneaked past him easily, only for Blitzwing to return and reveal that it was a trap. Along with his comrades in the [[2021]] battle between [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]]'s Decepticons and [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Fortress Maximus]]'s Autobots, Blitzwing's body became infected with [[blackball]]s and his head had to be converted into a [[Headmaster (technology)|Headmaster]] to survive. Integrating himself into the society of the [[Legends World]] like the other black ball victims, Blitzwing was walking out after a night with [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] at [[Hardhead's]] when he remembered the Quintesson invasion of the Legends World that he was part of. Attacking the Quintesson overseer for once being a slave to their whims, the diminutive Headmaster was easily tossed aside by the nearby Overcharge. Lamenting that he didn't have the perfect strategist, he was soon met by [[Big Convoy|Big Fight]], who offered to think for the soldier in battle. (He wasn't all that cracked up to be, only advising Blitzwing to take control of his own destiny.) Managing to turn a downed Overcharge into a [[transtector]], Blitzwing flew into battle and took down the Overcharge protecting the Quintesson. However, when the Quintesson escaped and the Overcharge panicked that he didn't know how to act on his own, Blitzwing realized it was him from the past and told him to forge his own path, giving him his name: "Blitzwing". Blitzwing, [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]] and [[Octane]] were commissioned by [[Ratbat (G1)|Ratbat]] to investigate the loss of his [[Wash and Roll|priceless cargo]] that had arrived on [[Earth]] via a low-cost freighter, but hadn't checked in as scheduled. Upon making contact with the [[Freighter pilot|crashed ship's pilot]], Blitzwing and his companions were infected with [[Scraplet]]s, and began to slowly waste away. The Autobots [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] and [[Bumblebee (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Goldbug]] came upon the site as well, and the Decepticons reveled at the chance at some destructive fun before their demise. Though Goldbug escaped, Blitzwing, Astrotrain, and Octane cornered Blaster {{storylink|Crater Critters}} and took him prisoner. The trio then made contact with Ratbat, and urged him to send a cure to their affliction. Instead, Ratbat decided to cut his losses and sent over the [[Throttlebot]]s, armed with canisters of acid, to put a permanent and immediate end to the infection. Upon seeing the Autobots approaching, Blitzwing tried to attack them, only to find he was already too weak to do anything more than sit tight and wait for the inevitable. This never came to pass though, as Blaster's friends returned with a strange and wondrous chemical that acted as a cure for the deadly disease: [[water]]. Though Blaster, who had himself gotten infected in the interim, refused to be saved if it meant also sparing the life of his captors, Goldbug's hand was forced against his fellow Autobot's wishes when thousands of Scraplets combined into a monster; the Decepticons were the only ones present with enough firepower to stop it. After delivering the [[Wash and Roll|cargo]] to its intended destination, the Triple Changers linked up with [[Shockwave (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Shockwave]]'s Decepticons on Earth, {{storylink|Buster Witwicky and the Car Wash of Doom}} operating out of their [[Club Con|tropical island starship]]. Blitzwing's fortunes changed, however, when he came [[sword]]-to-sword with [[Grimlock (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Grimlock]] — it seems the [[Energo weapon|energo-sword]] is mightier than the [[electron scimitar]]. Still smarting from his last fight, Blitzwing eagerly rushed into battle when an invasion alert sounded within the Decepticon base. This proved to be a false alarm, as the visitors were another group of Decepticons led by [[Scorponok (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Scorponok]]. Blitzwing wound up fighting against them nonetheless, as Starscream manipulated the two Decepticon groups into fighting one another, culminating in a [[Decepticon Civil War]] between them. Turnabout is fair play, as this time it was Blitzwing who cut an opponent in two, slicing through [[Horri-Bull]]'s midsection. {{storylink|Cold War!}} The infighting came to an end when the Decepticons learned that it had been orchestrated by Starscream in a bid to obtain the power of the legendary [[Underbase]] for himself. Starscream and Blitzwing had been instructed by Megatron to wreak havoc and destroy the humans' wheat and corn farmland. They were meant to let the Autobots overhear that the Decepticons were planning to force the humans into starvation if they did not become Decepticon slaves, their true plan was a much more practical one. The two jets were to lure the Autobots into the open country, where they would have no cover against the flying Decepticons, and thus would be easy pickings.

In one possible sequence of events, Bumblebee happened upon the duo, and was able to take out Blitzwing with a sucker punch. This took Blitzwing out of commission for the time being, as he lay a smoldering wreck on the ground. Later, if events played out in a certain fashion, a patched-up Blitzwing would join the rest of the Decepticons in tracking down Sparkplug Witwicky to a cave in the mountains. The human had discovered a fatal flaw in the Decepticons' circuitry, and the bulk of the Decepticons' forces were tasked by Megatron into hunting him down. The Decepticons were then ambushed by Swoop, who then either took out Megatron by himself, leading Blitzwing and the rest of the Decepticons to be subsequently defeated by Autobot reinforcements, or flew away after his initial assault, leading most of the Decepticon jets, but not Blitzwing himself, on a chase all the way back to Autobot headquarters. In the later turn of events, a later possibility arose wherein Prowl attempted to make a mad dash back to Autobot headquarters with Sparkplug. In this scenario, Blitzwing and Laserbeak chased Prowl as he zig-zagged into a forest, evading Decepticon fire... only for it all to turn out nothing but one of [[you]]r dreams.

In a completely different sequence of events, Bumblebee happened upon the duo, but hid amongst abandoned cars on the roadway instead of engaging Blitzwing and Starscream. Starscream and Blitzwing are not fooled, and transform before Bumblebee to discuss the Decepticons' "plan" between themselves, knowing Bumblebee would report back to Optimus. Before taking off, Blitzwing was sure to bang up the "abandonned car" out of spite. Once Optimus Prime had been lured out to the open farmland, Blitzwing was amongst the many flying Decepticons who planned to take him out. Whether or not the Decepticons succeeded depended on what decisions Optimus made.

In one possible scenario, Blitzwing accompanied Galvatron on a campaign to retrieve an ancient sphere of cybertite that contained the secrets to an ancient Autobot power-booster. Learning that the sphere was located within a sunken ship off the California coast, Blitzwing and the others headed for its location.

If they found the Autobots in the middle of retrieving it, the Decepticons destroyed both the ship and the sphere, and proceeded to rain superior Decepticon firepower upon their foes.

If the Decepticons found the coast deserted, they retrieved the ship themselves, using the might of Devastator.

If Ironhide, Brawn and Grapple attempted to snatch the ship away from the Decepticons, Blitzwing and his comrades destroyed the ship and the sphere contained within to keep it out of Autobot hands. The Decepticons then proceeded to pin down the Autobots in their hiding spots, leaving the heroic robots at their mercy.

In the Autobot story, Blitzwing appears to have been placed in charge of the Jaad wind power plant. When Optiumus Prime's squad team made it to the main station of the power plant, Blitzwing approached them in his tank form, expressing mock surprise that the Autobots managed to make it. He transformed to robot form, commenting how worthless his troops were, letting the Autobots reach the main station so easily. Blitzwing then announced that it didn't matter, because he was going to burn up the Autobots. However, Blitzwing failed to live up to his threat and was defeated by the Autobot squad team. Expressing disbelief that he was defeated, he decided to high-tail it out of there, transforming to jet mode and flying away. The Autobots faced Blitzwing once again inside the [[Monogan Hydroelectric Power Station]] and yet again at the [[Karzite mine]]. They managed to defeat the triple changer along with his troops on both occasions.

During the Decepticon storyline, Blitzwing was a member of a team that Megatron sent to investigate a mysterious UFO that was spotted in the area of Zel Samine. Something caused the team to lose contact with the main Decepticon forces, and they found out that they could not leave the planet, as Zel's sun, Paradius, emitted electromagnetic rays that was harmful to them. Unable to contact Megatron and with no way to leave the planet safely, Blitzwing and the others scattered across Zel.

The Decepticon forces went to Zel in order to investigate, and Blitzwing found them just when they were leaving the geothermal power plant. Expressing relief on how the Decepticons finally arrived, Blitzwing drove up to them in tank mode and transformed to [[robot mode]]. He complained about how late the Decepticons were and voiced his thoughts on how they were going to leave him behind to clean up all the pieces of the Autobots the Decepticons had defeated. Megatron briefly thought that he would have to bolt Blitzwing's mouth shut, but ultimately decided that he could use the triple changer and let him join his forces. What was Blitzwing's response? ==Synopsis==
In the halls of the Cybertronian [[Senate]], First Senator [[Sentinel Prime (G1)|Sentinel Prime]] and [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Orion Pax]] gravely listen to [[Chromia (G1)|Chromia]]'s report on the current crisis unfolding at [[Ascenticon Headquarters]]: rogue [[Security Operations]] officer [[Barricade (G1)|Barricade]] has sought refuge with the Ascenticons... and [[Ascenticon Guard]] member [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] has denied the 'bots of Security Operations access to the building. Straightforward as ever, Sentinel orders Chromia to break down the doors and bring in their target by force, but Orion advocates a more restrained approach. Perhaps, he suggests, he should speak to [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] first... the recent destruction of the [[Memorial Crater]] has further divided [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]'s already polarized society, and those who hold Ascenticon sympathies are already blaming the security operatives who carried out the raid. Sentinel grumbles that Orion has until sunset to get what he wants... and if he ''doesn't'', then he'll order Chromia to get proactive about the situation.

Ignoring Head of Intelligence [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]]'s snide remarks, Chromia passes an object to Orion: the salvaged contents of the data-jack that she and her team uncovered at the Rise base in the crater. Forty names are on the list of every 'bot who used the facility's [[energon stations]]–including, she reasons, the Risers responsible for killing [[Brainstorm (G1)|Brainstorm]] and [[Rubble]].

Elsewhere, Megatron himself is furious with Soundwave's handling of the recent crisis–under Soundwave's authorization, Barricade passed information directly to [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] regarding the location of the [[Voin]] witness... and Shockwave sought to tie up that loose end by sending the notoriously unstable [[Quake (G1)|Quake]] to finish the job. With security cordons at their doorstep and a suspected Riser taking shelter in their headquarters, the political legitimacy of the Ascenticons is crumbling, and fast. As he vents his fury, the Ascenticon leader smashes one piece of furniture after the next, until an attendant timidly pokes her head around the door to inform Megatron that Orion wishes to speak to him. With his carefully-prepared plan collapsing around him, the Ascenticon leader sighs, and agrees that Security Operations ''cannot'' be allowed to speak to Barricade now. Instead, Megatron puts through a call to [[Shockwave (G1)|Shockwave]] on one of Soundwave's secure drones, informing his co-conspirator that someone needs to come get Barricade... and that the extraction effort needs to look good.

Unaware of Megatron's scheme, [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] has just finished paying [[Windblade (G1)|Windblade]]'s [[stasis lock]]ed body a visit–but that's not why he's at the medical center today, as he's arrived to have a tête-à-tête with Orion Pax. Orion is the one who put him up to joining the Ascenticon Guard, a way of keeping an eye on the organization after the suspiciously incompetent attack on Megatron's Ascenticon rally–but now, with Ascenticon headquarters in turmoil, Orion asks Bumblebee not to return. The yellow Autobot refuses: Rubble died because nobody was there to protect him. Bumblebee was in debt to Orion already, but now he's even ''deeper'' in debt to Rubble's memory... and he won't stop until that debt is paid, and Cybertron protected.

Some time later, back at Ascenticon headquarters, the members of the [[Ascenticon Guard]] prepare for the inevitable confrontation with [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]] and his men. One by one, the various Ascenticons head off to their posts, intent on maintaining a united front in the face of Security... but Bumblebee lags behind, and wonders aloud just ''what'' Barricade did to get on their radar. Soundwave is quick to order Bumblebee to his station, but–the moment Soundwave's back turns–Bumblebee slips off after Barricade as the ex-cop heads down a side hallway, and bumps into [[Flywheels|Skytread]] on the way, who firmly encourages his fellow guardsman to find somewhere else to be busy.

Up above, [[Sixshot]] and his compatriots [[Whisper (G1)|Visper]] and [[Storm Cloud (G1)|Storm Cloud]] scope out the situation below. As per Shockwave's orders, they've been sent to retrieve Barricade, and make it look convincing... and their "attack" begins with a blast that announces their presence. While the two smaller Transformers grab Barricade, Skytread is seemingly dropped with a staged jolt from an electric stun baton, Bumblebee goes up against Visper before Sixshot intervenes and momentarily stuns the yellow 'bot. As they turn to leave, however, the [[Six Changer]] finds himself blindsided when Bumblebee recovers and fights back, wielding a chunk of debris as an improvised weapon! Though 'Bee fights hard, the fight is as short-lived as it is lopsided: Sixshot contemptuously snatches Bumblebee's weapon from his hands... and Bumblebee himself is electrocuted by none other than Skytread! The deed done, the Risers scatter... and Barricade goes with them.

That night, Megatron surveys the ruins of the damaged Ascenticon building; with Soundwave in tow, the Ascenticon leader broadcasts a new speech. Cybertron is but a shadow of its former glory, Megatron opines, and the rise of violence across the planet–a violence exemplified by The Rise, and abetted by the incompetence of Security Operations–are but symptoms of the underlying cause: and that cause is the the reign of the Autobots, and their slavish adherence to the [[Nominus Edict]].

On cue, Megatron's fellow Ascenticons step forward–senators, members of the Ascenticon Guard alike, and even Bumblebee. Though they are beset by chaos and disorder on all sides, Megatron announces that progress ''must'' be made, their ascension aided by determination, purpose, and, if need be, anger... and, as he hoists the tattered Ascenticon flag, the first step on this new path begins with a new symbol for the Ascenticons. Using a blowtorch, Megatron burns a new pattern over the old symbol, turns it upside down, and reveals his handiwork to the people of Cybertron...

Within '''Cliffjumper''' burns the [[spark]] of a hero and a dedicated Autobot. On the outside he's a paranoid, trigger-happy jerk with serious impulse-control problems. Cliffjumper utterly hates the [[Decepticon]]s. He also hates traitors. And anybody could be a traitor. Therefore, Cliffjumper hates everybody. It's unclear if he hates traitors more than he hates Decepticons, but it's at least a neck-and-neck thing.

He makes a habit of pulling [[Scale|ridiculously huge]] guns out of [[Anatomic euphemism#Exhaust port|nowhere]] and attacking impulsively despite orders or sanity. Somehow, this gets him neither killed nor demoted.

Cliffjumper's special weapon is his [[glass gas]], which embrittles metals on contact so that they shatter like glass. He is not immune to its effects, so its use requires careful consideration of wind direction. Actually, this may explain why he prefers the big guns. He doesn't seem like the calculating type.

One of the original crew members of the Ark when it crash-landed on Earth, Cliffjumper engaged in many of the key battles during the early years of that conflict before quickly getting lost in the crowd.

In one splinter timeline, he wound up in an alternate "mirror" universe where up is down, black is white, right is wrong, and Cliffjumper is an important character.

Despite being short-tempered, irritable and highly suspicious of his fellow Autobots, Cliffjumper made up for it with his soothingly golden voice. An original member of Optimus Prime's crew when they crash-landed on Earth, Cliffjumper participated in many of the key battles during the 1980s. He was later stationed on one of the Autobot Moon Bases by the year 2005 and survived an encounter with Unicron, before immediately disappearing for reasons "unknown."

In a few splinter timelines, Cliffjumper had more adventures on Earth in the '80s and '90s, much in the same capacity as those he had in his primary timeline (ie; part of the crowd). In a parallel universe of a splinter timeline, he gained a new body and had many confusing adventures with the [[Alternity]].

During a Decepticon attack, Cliffjumper pleaded with Optimus to let him jump into the fray. Optimus denied his request, telling him that they already had the Decepticons on the run. He and the other Autobots then enjoyed an unusual lull in Decepticon activities for the next several days, only to find out they had been lulled into a false sense of security; the Decepticons had stolen the Autobots’ entire supply of fuel during this quiet time. Cliffjumper and the other Autobots nonetheless attempted to fend off the Decepticons when they attacked once more. When Ravage kidnapped Blaisedale, energy-low Cliffjumper stayed at the plant and was therefore one of the few Autobots still there when Megatron attacked it. Luckily [[Snarl (G1)|Snarl]] and the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] arrived, and once Cliffjumper used the last of his energy to [[glass gas]] Megatron's cannon, they attacked. Cliffjumper was amongst the Autobots getting topped up with their latest batch of fuel when Red Alert burst into Autobot headquarters, warning everyone about Ramjet being spotted nearby. The Autobots’ latest batch of fuel had been poisoned by the fleeing Decepticon, leaving Cliffjumper unable to transform.

In one possible sequence of events that ensued, Perceptor gave out the right amount of an antidote the Autobot scientist had created, allowing Cliffjumper to resume his robot form and take arms against an incoming squadron of Decepticons. The antidote having given Cliffjumper and the rest of the cured Autobots a case of battle fever, the bunch were eager to take on the Decepticons head on in combat. The more level-head Prowl suggested instead a more conniving approach, where the Autobots would ambush their assailants.

If Optimus allowed Cliffjumper and the rest of the refuelled Autobots to venture headlong into battle, the group fond themselves fighting against Megatron himself, accompanied by a squad of Decepticon jets. Though Cliffjumper’s squad started out strong, they soon found themselves overpowered by Megatron, prompting Optimus to lead a second wave into battle. The second wave soon ran out of fuel, prompting the Autobots to call a retreat. Thankfully, the Decepticons were damaged enough through the course of the battle, causing them to retreat as well.

If Optimus instead followed Prowl’s plan, he instructed Cliffjumper and the others to transform into vehicle mode and play dead. The Decepticons, believing the Autobots to be already dead, disarmed themselves in order to carry out the Autobots’ “carcasses.” Now with the element of surprise against unarmed opponent, the Autobots Transformed and were able to easily defeat the evil robots.

In another possible turn of events, Perceptor gave out too much of his antidote to each Autobot. Though Cliffjumper initially cheered, finding himself able to transform once more, he soon found himself literally falling to pieces. The Autobots finding themselves completely outmatched against an all-out Decepticon attack were made short work of by the Decepticons.

In yet another possible scenario, the Autobots used the tainted fuel to create a toxic cloud that successfully fended off the Decepticons attack. This plan gave Perceptor the time he needed to cure Cliffjumpers and the others with his antidote. Their ranks fully replenished and the Decepticons turning tail meant the Autobots had earned themselves another victory.

In completely different possible sequence of events, Optimus successfully retrieved the antidote to the poison from the Decepticons’ poison lab, and with Ratchet’s help, brought Cliffjumper and the rest of the poisoned Autobots back from the precipice of death. Now cured, the Autobots discussed their next course of action; they had to prevent the Decepticons from poisoning the nearby water reservoir. {{storylink|Decepticon Poison}}

He was working primarily with [[Prowl (G1)|Prowl]]'s contingent of soldiers. {{storylink|Fragmentation (G1)|Fragmentation}} He accompanied Prowl's team out to the [[Praetorus Wharf]] in search of [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]], only to discover that the battle station was already operational and battle-ready. {{storylink|Devastation}} Still in vehicle mode, he was knocked over during the initial salvo, and [[Jazz (G1)|Jazz]] had to right him. During the Age of Internment, during which Megatron managed to take control over Cybertron, Cliffjumper was held at [[Internment Camp Pi]] in [[Praxus]]. Cliffjumper was a part of the crew on board the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] when it crashed into [[Earth]] four million years ago while clearing an asteroid in the path of Cybertron. He was one of many Transformers captured and reprogrammed by arms dealer [[Lazarus|Adam 'Lazarus' Rook]] for lease to terrorist organizations and shady governments requiring brutal military might. Fortunately, Autobots under the command of Optimus Prime repaired and re-reprogrammed Cliffjumper and the remaining captive Autobots. Immediately, they were put to work on fighting Megatron's metallic virus, which had spread deep into [[Canada|Canadian]] territory, using their own internal power as the anti-virus. {{storylink|Prime Directive issue 5|Prime Directive #5}}

As Cliffjumper collapsed into the snow out of exhaustion, the Canadian military arrived. Unfortunately, due to the recent attacks by both enslaved Autobots and Decepticons under the command of Rook, the Canadians attempted to stop the Autobots doing what they perceived to be an attack on their soil. Knowing that the virus fed upon weapons fire, Cliffjumper tried to stop a tank crew from causing further harm by bending the tank's main gun. Cliffjumper and Mirage were teamed together for the recon assignment, but were captured by [[Ultra Magnus (G1)|Ultra Magnus]] and his contingent of soldiers. Following the toppling of Shockwave's regime, Cliffjumper was assigned to the shuttle ''[[Orion]]'' under [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]]'s command, bringing supplies back to [[Jazz (G1)|Jazz]] and his troops on Earth. Cliffjumper tried to gun down the radioactive Decepticon, only for Sunstorm to overload the ''Orion'' with energy, causing it to crash. The ''Orion''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s crew walked away from their rough landing unharmed however, and Sunstorm left in pursuit of [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]]. Cliffjumper and his team set about repairing their ship, and accomplished the task in a few hours. Before the war, Cliffjumper was best buddies with [[Bumblebee (G1)/IDW continuity (2005)|Bumblebee]] and [[Hubcap (G1)|Hubcap]], forming a trio of friends who'd enjoy [[Cybertronian sport#Races|the races]] together. {{storylink|Ghost Stories}} He was seen mourning [[Bumper (G1)|Bumper]] and [[Fastback (G1)|Fastback]] at the Security Services HQ in [[Kaon (polity)|Kaon]]. {{storylink|Megatron Origin issue 3|Megatron Origin #3}} At one point in the early days of the Decepticon uprising, Cliffjumper and Hubcap were weirded out when Bumblebee started acting odd and stopped hanging out with them. {{storylink|Ghost Stories}}

As the war spread across Cybertron, Cliffjumper embraced the path of a warrior as few other Autobots did. He became a weapons expert, skilled in both ranged and melee combat. His skills earned him a dubious role as an assassin, but it was a job he took to easily. On one occasion, he broke into a Decepticon outpost and executed the ranking commander, along with five other warriors who got in his way. As his ship was damaged during his escape, Cliffjumper was forced down on an undeveloped world to hide out and wait for back-up.

While securing his position, Cliffjumper met a young innocent farm girl named [[Kita]], and her little brother [[Coll]]. Kita marveled at the metal man she had discovered, and Cliffjumper was quite taken with her as well. He told her he was one of the good guys, but had to gloss over the details of his job when she said "there is no greater evil" than to hurt another being. With nothing else to do while waiting for transport home, Cliffjumper helped out around the farm, and grew quite close with Kita and Coll. The Decepticons eventually found him, however, and Cliffjumper was forced to resume his role as a warrior. He killed three 'Cons before they even knew he was there, but had to reveal himself when the lead Decepticon took Kita and Coll hostage. Despite Cliffjumper's willing surrender, the Decepticon still struck down Kita, and Cliffjumper rushed Coll and the dying Kita to temporary safety in the barn as the Decepticons' reinforcements arrived. With Kita dead and Coll secured...Cliffjumper no longer had any reason to hold back. He killed at least seven Decepticons before hijacking their ship. Before he left, Cliffjumper brought Coll to a new family and buried Kita, leaving flowers on her grave and banging her tombstone into place with the severed head of one of his enemies. {{storylink|Spotlight: Cliffjumper}}

After the [[Expansion]] battles, Cliffjumper came to Earth with several other Autobots as reinforcements for Optimus Prime and the crew of the ''Ark-19'' who had been stationed there. Acting on intelligence reports, they entered a deep canyon and were ambushed by the Decepticons. Cliffjumper was one of the bots to rally against the Decepticons and start turning the tide—until [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]] turned up and slagged them all. Cliffjumper proved just how desperate he was for a good rumble when he spent hours staring at a screen on the off chance of an emergency, then got excited over a signal that lasted 1/100th of a second! Taking a ticked off [[Ironhide (G1)/IDW continuity (2005)|Ironhide]] along for the ride, he found the suspected threat... which turned out to be [[Hot Rod (G1)/IDW continuity (2005)|Hot Rod]]. Neither Cliffjumper or Ironhide realized this before the big guy decked Roddy. {{storylink|All Hail Megatron issue 4|All Hail Megatron #4}} Joining up with Hot Rod and the crew of the ''Trion'', Cliffjumper and the others began to trek towards the fallen ship and its energon supply. Two years later, the Autobots were left in disarray when Optimus Prime surrendered himself to [[Skywatch]], leaving them leaderless. When the Autobots decided to hold nominations for the new leader, Cliffjumper stated that he planned to nominate himself. Despite what was surely a vigorous campaign that lasted all of five minutes, Cliffjumper was one-upped by Bumblebee, who was surprisingly elected the new Autobot leader by a majority of the voters. {{storylink|Things Fall Apart, Part 1: "New Arrivals, Old Encounters"|New Arrivals, Old Encounters}} He was among the troops who lined up when [[Ultra Magnus (G1)/IDW continuity (2005)|Ultra Magnus]] dropped by to investigate Prime's surrender, and had to remind Bumblebee that he was supposed be in charge. {{storylink|Things Fall Apart, Part 2: "A Rude Awakening"|A Rude Awakening}} After Bumblebee organized an alliance with [[Gordon Horiuchi]], a rogue Skywatch officer, Cliffjumper helped captured [[Frenzy (G1)|Frenzy]] for the humans. However, when Horiuchi revealed that their next target was [[Blurr (G1)|Blurr]], he got ticked off and made it perfectly clear that they weren't capturing any of their fellow Autobots for Skywatch. The Autobots were none too pleased with Skywatch's ability to incapacitate any of them at any given time, and thought up a plan to deactivate the badges once Bumblebee's malfunctioned. Cliffjumper was one of the Autobots deployed to [[South Korea]] as part of Skywatch's clandestine operation to counter-attack the Combaticons without contradicting the [[President of the United States]]' decree that Cybertronians were considered to be weapons of mass destruction. As the Autobots were unpacked from shipping containers, Cliffjumper overheard Spike's sarcastic remark about Optimus Prime being Patton, and wondered aloud if he was referring to [[Patton Oswalt]], eliciting a laugh from Campolongo. During the subsequent battle against the Combaticons, Cliffjumper assisted Smokescreen in trying to prevent [[Vortex (G1)|Vortex]] from getting airborne, but was slashed by the Decepticon's rotor blade for his trouble. Some six weeks later, Hot Rod (now known as Rodimus) returned to the Autobot base from space, bringing with him a revived Sunstreaker. Cliffjumper was still wary around him, seeing as how his betrayal had stranded them on Cybertron years earlier, but all the feelings of happiness floating around the camp made him more forgiving.
