Transformers: Generation 2 is a standalone LCD handheld game manufactured by Tiger Electronics. Based on the Generation 2 franchise, the game was released in 1993 as one of the countless LCD games developed by Tiger during that era. A reissue of the game was released in July 2020.
Gameplay
Generation 2 features four stages of gameplay. In each one, players control Optimus Prime as he drives down a desert road while being attacked by a horde of Decepticons. The player can press the right button on the control pad while in truck mode to move further down the road; the objective is to defeat the boss within the time limit without running out of health. Optimus cannot attack while in vehicle mode; the player can press the "Transform" button to change to robot mode at any time, allowing them to jump and shoot at the Decepticons using the "Attack" button. However, Optimus cannot move forward while in robot mode and must return to vehicle mode to make further progress. Pressing the "Call" button will temporarily summon another Autobot to help attack the Decepticons: Inferno on Stage 1, Jazz on Stage 2, Sideswipe on Stage 3, and Grimlock on Stage 4.

A timer ticks down at the top of the screen as the stage continues; running out of time will trigger a game over. Optimus also only has a limited amount of health, up to 8 pips, which will decrease each time he is hit. Health can be restored by picking up Power Pellets on the ground. If the player defeats a certain number of Decepticons before time expires, they will engage in a battle with a Decepticon boss: Long Haul on Stage 1, Devastator on Stage 2, Ramjet on Stage 3, and Starscream on Stage 4. The bosses have their own health bars like Optimus; depleting their health will clear the stage and allow the player to move on. Clearing the final stage will end the game, with Optimus standing alone in robot mode, requiring the game be reset to play again.

The game features no music, with the system only capable of making rudimentary beeping sounds. Below the screen are five buttons: "Off" to deactivate the system; "Sound" to mute or unmute the game's audio; "Pause" to halt gameplay; "On/Start" to power on the system and start a new game; and "ACL" to perform a hard reset of the game if it is not functioning properly. Like all Tiger LCD games, the ACL button is mostly hidden below the casing to prevent accidental pushing, and requires the use of a thin implement like a pen or toothpick to reach.

Notes
*Both the game itself and its package art feature the original Generation 1 Optimus Prime package art and the Generation 2 Starscream package art. In the 2020 reissue, the colors of Starscream's wings and limbs have been updated to match his more traditional color scheme.
*The 2020 reissue of the game has relabeled the "Transform" button to "Convert", reflecting Hasbro's more recent moves away from the use of "transform" as a verb to protect their trademark.
Hey just to confirm, is the toy prototype his earth or cybertronian form. I'm fairly certain it's his cybertronian one, because it mathces what we saw in the trailer, head design, shoulder spike.
:Personally I'd say toy protos of all stripes are not really well-suited to this wiki. Hand-painted versions such as those shown at Comic Con are fair game because in most cases we have clear photos of them and they are fairly close to what their final decos will be. However grays or test shots just aren't indicative of anything but sculpt.--Rosicrucian 18:52, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
:Well, yeah... but we can remove them in the sec the final pictures came out, and iuntil that we can live big notes that the toys are just prototypes. OR leave a long description of the toys until pics came out. I did that once for Lockdown, but someboddy deleted it all...--Hepathos 19:59, 7 September 2007 (UTC)
I don't know where you're getting this information, but it looks like you've cooked a good deal of it up on your own. What's more it's quite wrong in spots, because in this continuity Optimus Prime is not the leader of the Autobots, he's a washout from the Autobot Academy just assigned to his first command of a mining operation. He probably will become a great leader, but he's nobody now.
