However, this only led to his capture and eventual torture where he was used to lead the Autobots into an ambush. After he outlived his usefulness, Magnus was killed with his death being felt by Optimus who believed that the Alpha Trion Protocols had downloaded to a new bot. He believed that the Protocols might have gone to one of the [[Guardian robot|Guardians]] who had remained neutral in the conflict. In reality, the Protocols had downloaded into the mind of a lone scout named [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]]. In addition, the computer was linked to the vessel's [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticon]] swarm that were used for [[Eco-structuring|cyberforming]] worlds and the [[Plasma Core]] that powered the ship. Millions of years ago, Nova Prime encountered a dark force that corrupted him and led him to seek the destruction of other planets. The ''Proudstar'' would later crash on the primitive world of [[Earth]] and remain buried there until the Great War between the [[Autobot]]'s and the [[Decepticon]]s. [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] recovered the ''Proudstar'' and used the Ferrotaxis to command the Insecticons to cyberform Earth. [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and the Autobots sought to stop him as well as recover the supercomputer in order to save the Colonnade. However, Megatron introduced a failsafe on the Ferrotaxis that meant that its command over the Insecticons to cyberform Earth would only cease with its destruction. Metrotitans were living starships, city-sized Cybertronians of unspeakable power who (legend has it) served the Knights of Cybertron before they departed from the homeworld of the Transformers. [[Cyclonus (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Cyclonus]] claimed that the Metrotitans still existed on Cybertron during his time, and that he used to pray in their shadow. Sometime after the war with Mortilus, the Knights of Cybertron led the followers to the stars aboard the Metrotitans, to usher in a new era of Cyberutopia. {{Storylink|Primus: You, Me, and Other Revelations|You, Me, and Other Revelations}} Thirteen known as the Colony Titans acted as colonizers, taking [[hot spot]]s in order to populate new worlds. Over time, Metrotitans fell into the realm of myth and legend. By the time Cyclonus had become part of [[Nova Prime]]'s inner court, only two "Titans" remained on Cybertron, both in hiding. One slumbered in secret beneath [[Crystal City]], and was guarded by [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]]. When Nova discovered the upper city and allied himself with Omega, the guardian hid the Titan's existence from the Prime. His recalcitrance paid off when Nova fell into megalomania and departed Cybertron to conquer other worlds, at which point Omega revealed the Metrotitan to Nova's more respectful former follower, [[Dai Atlas (Zone)|Dai Atlas]]. Omega explained that the Titan would only awaken in the presence of a great Cybertronian, but that it would be Dai Atlas's task to protect it until then. When the Autobot/Decepticon war subsequently broke out in the following millennia, Dai Atlas became a conscientious objector and gathered together many like-minded Transformers to form the [[Circle of Light]], and used the energies of the Metrotitan to power their departure from Cybertron. {{storylink|Primus: All Good Things|All Good Things}} Settling on the planet [[Theophany]], the Circle built a new Crystal City atop the still-sleeping Titan, continuing to use its energies to power their new home. {{Storylink|Primus: You, Me, and Other Revelations|You, Me, and Other Revelations}}

The other remaining Metrotitan on Cybertron was called [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]], "the first Titan". {{storylink|The Reluctant Specialist}} Metroplex was a long time friend of the ancient Cybertronian called Alpha Trion, and in the past they surveyed and mapped most of the planet together, including the [[Rust Spot]]. {{storylink|Omega's Conundrum}} At one point, Metroplex entered a deep slumber as the "[[Acropolex]]" of Nyon, until the early days of the Autobot/Decepticon War when the new [[Prime (rank)|Prime]], the former [[Optimus Prime (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Orion Pax]], woke him with the [[Matrix of Leadership]] to aid him against [[Zeta Prime (G1)|Zeta Prime]] and [[Megatron (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Megatron]]. {{storylink|Rise}} After the battles were done {{storylink|Endgame}}, he served as Autobot headquarters for some time until he departed the planet mysteriously. At some point afterward, [[Shockwave (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Shockwave]] obtained his space bridge nodes to install them in Megatron's new body {{storylink|Spotlight: Megatron}}, apparently forcing him to travel physically through space thereafter.

Millions of years later, the few remaining Metrotitans were growing increasingly decrepit and weak from underfuelling. Believing that the ancient giants held the key to reaching [[Cyberutopia]], the supposed location of the Knights of Cybertron, Chief Justice [[Tyrest (G1)|Tyrest]] hired [[Lockdown (G1)|Lockdown]] to hunt down and kill Metrotitans so that he could use their parts to cobble together an antique space bridge leading directly to the Knights. {{storylink|Remain in Light 3 of 5: The Divided Self|The Divided Self}} Lockdown and his group of [[Titan Hunters]] tracked down the weakened Titans, killed them, then took them to be stripped down for profit before using the remains to find the next one. {{storylink|The Reluctant Specialist}} The leftovers were left on [[Moonbase One|Luna 1]], Tyrest's headquarters, in a veritable [[Wikipedia:Elephant's graveyard|elephant's graveyard]] of Metrotitan corpses. {{storylink|Remain in Light 2 of 5: House of Ambus|House of Ambus}} At one point Lockdown's hunters followed a Titan signal to the ''[[Lost Light]]'', which had a sloughed-off piece of Metroplex aboard that had recently struck the ship, and aimed to use it to detect Metroplex himself, before being forced off by [[Trailbreaker (G1)|Trailcutter]] without their prize. {{storylink|The Reluctant Specialist}}

At some point, Crystal City was razed by Tyrest's [[Legislator]]s, leaving no sign of life, save the Metrotitan slumbering underneath. When the crew of the ''Lost Light'' arrived to investigate, a subsidence sent them tumbling into the cavern beneath the city where the Titan lay, and they decided to enter its very body so that the their resident [[mnemosurgery|mnemosurgeon]] [[Chromedome (G1)|Chromedome]] could tap its brain and hopefully find out what had befallen the Circle of Light. Doing so, Chromedome discovered that the Titan's mind was still alive and screaming in frustration—it had heard the call sent out by Cybertron upon the planet's reformatting to "come home", but having been drained by the Circle for so long, it lacked the necessary power to teleport its giant bulk across space. With the Titan willing to destroy itself to separate its [[spark]] from its body in order to return home, [[Brainstorm]] used miniaturization technology to shrink the giant down to a size that its reduced power could teleport away from the planet. {{Storylink|Primus: You, Me, and Other Revelations|You, Me, and Other Revelations}}

The shrunken Titan successfully quantum jumped back to Cybertron, to its old home in Crystal City, but wound up physically enmeshing its molecules into those of the city, causing a destabilization of local reality. As Autobot scientist [[Wheeljack (G1)|Wheeljack]] worked to contain the impending disaster, [[Prowl (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Prowl]] and [[Starscream (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Starscream]] got closer to the Titan, and were shocked when it awoke, crediting Starscream's presence as the reason. The Titan dubbed Starscream the conqueror who would unite Cybertron and thanked him for allowing him to awaken one last time, then bid the Transformers to depart so that they would not be destroyed along with it. The radiation emitted by the star created massive solar storms, severely disrupting communications on the planet.

By the time [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]] and his crew of Autobots aboard the [[Ark (WFC)|Ark]] re-established contact with Velocitron, the Velocitronians had colonized the entire surface with a series of planet-spanning superhighways, with major cities built around nodal interchanges. While there were foundries, mines, factories and more, these were subordinated to the primacy of speed. The majority of the planet was re-engineered to provide a smooth ride. Few locations were spared this reconstruction and the Velocitronians showed little to no interest in those, limiting their maps entirely to the road systems. One area that remained natural is the southern magnetic pole, an area of jumbled sandy hills, windblown heights, and thin slot canyons where the ancient monolith that once served as a beacon for the local space bridge still stood, distorting space-time. The smooth, flat engineered surface of the planet, plains and desert allowed great windstorms to roar across the world, with little to ease or break their fury.

Velocitron's capital was the city of [[Delta]], located at its equator. It also housed the racetrack dedicated to the [[Speedia]], the great celebration-race which decided the most prominent citizens, and, on some occasions, even the political leaders of the planet. Velocitron's Transformers had a distinctive visual style to their construction, sporting exceptionally long limbs, elongated torsos, and streamlined bodies with aerodynamic armor. Optimus Prime noted that some had evolved into entirely new kinds of Transformer. Although built for speed, none of them could fly or transform into flying vehicles. Optimus Prime noted that the vast amount of resources spent on upgrading racers and racetracks may have contributed to Velocitron's resource shortage.

In order to rule the planet, Velocitron's leader must win the Speedia, Velocitron's foremost and most intense sporting event. Although rulers usually rule solo, the most recent race resulted in a tie, meaning that [[Override (Prime)|Override]] and [[Ransack (Prime)|Ransack]] were forced to grudgingly work together, although Ransack's desire to rule solo pushed the world to the brink of civil war. During the Autobot's time on the planet, Ransack finally made his play for power at the behest of [[Makeshift (Prime)|"777"]] who had informed Ransack and his cadre of malcontents about the imminent arrival of [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]]. Motion and races were to such an extent that their cities were mobile that journeyed across the frozen landscapes of their world. Magnus then went back to Nova Point to complain to Prime, claiming that the Wreckers were setting a bad example to his Cybertronian Civil Defence cadets. Denizens of the under levels of Cybertron, the '''Insecticons''' live in destructive swarms. Ravenous and aggressive, Insecticons can digest 95% of known matter, reshaping their findings into enormous subterrannean hives. Existing as a near hive mind, they represent a deadly and invaluable resource for those willing to find a way to tame them.

Insecticons have the unique ability to clone themselves, but each successive clone is inferior to its progenitor, leading to increasingly bestial creatures. Three members of the species stand out as being fully sentient individuals, with the ability to assume bipedal robot modes. Far more difficult to manipulate, they require coercion rather than control, and may represent the original members of their race.

[[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]] experimented on three specimens, optimizing them for battle in the gladiatorial arenas of [[Kaon]] by turning them into [[combiner]]s—something that disgusted the gladiator [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatronus]]. They were primitive to the point of barely possessing a sentient consciousness, but surprisingly capable fighters. The way they moved together gave away their nature as combiners even when separate. Even with one of their number dead, the remaining two could combine into a hovering attack mode.

The trio competed in the [[gladiatorial combat|gladiatorial]] [[Tournament of Champions]] when they encountered Megatronus. He allowed them to [[trans-scan|scan]] a vehicle form before attacking. One emerged from a scrapheap as an all-terrain vehicle with magnetic studded tracks and sought a vantage point on the combat pit's wall, while another sprayed acid on Megatronus's shoulder. Megatronus caught the third Insecticon's multiple, vibrobladed hands and tore an arm off, flinging it into the audience and causing havoc.

Taking fire from the other two, Megatronus made the wounded Insecticon fire his own ion cannon into its neck, killing it in an attempt to ensure there would be no combination. He then slammed the acid-spitter to the floor, but it wriggled away and managed to combine with the ATV, wiring itself into girders while blasting and spitting acid at the gladiator. Megatronus transformed and blasted them, before pinning them down in robot mode and smashing them to pieces with two [[energon mace|maces]]. Megatronus roared "I still function!", as the crowd began chanting a shortened version of his name: Megatron. {{storylink|Transformers: Exodus|Exodus}}

The Insecticon then tracked Jack to [[Vector Sigma]], but was horrified to see the supercomputer covered in [[scraplet]]s. When [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] was seeking Energon scraps in an old mine, he noticed an Insecticon doing the same, and was surprised that one was on [[Earth]]. Starscream demanded that the Insecticon hand over the Energon it had found, though it instead turned on him and attacked, before [[Airachnid (Prime)|Airachnid]] called it off. Airachnid had managed to control it, due to their being related. Though Starscream suggested that they all team up to end [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]], Airachnid instead ordered the Insecticon to attack him, however he escaped. Sometime later, the Insecticon attacked Megatron as part of Airachnid's trap, refusing to obey him instead. The Insecticon had the upper hand on the Decepticon leader, particularly when Airachnid removed his fusion cannon from the equation, however Megatron eventually triumphed as he beheaded the Insecticon. However, as the escaped Airachnid discovered, it was only a scout for an entire hive of Insecticons in stasis underground. {{storylink|Crossfire}}

Airachnid awoke the Insecticons after detecting a signal from the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]'', and sent most of them to terminate Megatron, while others attempted to protect her from the Autobots who arrived to see what was happening. While [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]] eliminated the Insecticons attacking them, Arcee chased down Airachnid and put her in stasis. At that point her control of the Insecticons ceased, and those attacking the ''Nemesis'' stopped and proclaimed their loyalty to Megatron. Then, the ''Nemesis'' crashed for [[Bulkhead (Prime)|some reason]]. {{storylink|Armada (episode)|Armada}}

Now added to the Decepticon ranks, the Insecticons were free to move about the ship. After Megatron used [[Dark Energon]] to bring the ship back online but as a consequence the ship started making its own decisions, Megatron then sent all of the ship's crew, including the Insecticons, to stop the ''Nemesis''. They failed and were stasis locked by the ''Nemesis'''s stasis cannon sweep of the ship. They started recovering after Jack disabled the ship's Dark Energon influence. {{storylink|Flying Mind}}

A single Insecticon went with [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]] to watch over the medic as they searched for one of the [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]] relics in the [[New York City|Manhattan]] subway. When Arcee and [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]] turned up, it easily brought them down. But soon they started fighting back, and the Insecticon pursued Arcee down the tunnel, and eventually the two began clashing. The Insecticon had the upper hand until she managed to get it to come into contact with the electrified third rail on the subway track, frying it. {{storylink|Tunnel Vision}}

Megatron entered the chamber occupied by the Insecticons and asked for the fiercest among them to retrieve the fourth Iacon relic. [[Hardshell (Prime)|Hardshell]] led three other Insecticons to the Earth's equator, and Hardshell's first fight with Bulkhead resulted in defeat. As they continued their mission, one of the Insecticons fell prey to a grenade and some [[Tox-En]]. Hardshell and the others were mislead by a false trail left by Bulkhead, but eventually caught up with the Wrecker at the top of a nearby volcano. He managed to acquit himself well against the trio, finishing off one Insecticon and throwing Hardshell and the Tox-En into the volcano. Hardshell survived his swim and shot Bulkhead in the back as the Autobot was retreating through the [[GroundBridge]]. {{storylink|Toxicity}}

Megatron was unhappy with the results of the mission and the Insecticons faced hostility from Knock Out and the Vehicons, eventually resulting in a brawl aboard the ''Nemesis''. Hardshell was dispatched to deal with [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]] and almost bested his foe, until [[Miko Nakadai (Prime)|Miko Nakadai]] killed him using the ''[[Jackhammer (Prime)|Jackhammer]]''<nowiki>'s</nowiki> weapons systems. The rest of the Insecticons pursued the ship, only stopping when Wheeljack threw a bag of grenades at them. The survivors dragged Hardshell's corpse back to the Decepticon warship to report his failure. {{storylink|Hurt}}

Some Vehicons and Insecticons were sent to investigate a crashed Decepticon escape pod. Those that weren't killed by the Autobots perished when the pod exploded. {{storylink|New Recruit}} A few Insecticons were used as muscle when the Decepticons were digging up another Iacon relic, and lifted heavy rocks in their insect modes. A number of Insecticons arrived at an energon mine reported to be under attack, but encountered only confused [[Decepticon Miner|miners]]. {{storylink|Rebellion (Prime)|Rebellion}} A half-dozen Insecticons, including [[Bombshock (Prime)|Bombshock]], were sent to a cavern to find [[Predacon (Prime)|Predacon]] remains. With nowhere else to go, the swarms began migrating to the surface, where they came into contact with the Autobots and Decepticons. Shockwave continued his experiments using Insecticons as test subjects, creating new breeds such as [[Insecticon Bruiser|Bruisers]], combining Autobot [[source code]] with Insecticon physiology, and [[Insecticon Spitter|Spitters]], which were based on alien insects viewed through the space bridge. The Insecticons served under Shockwave during the last days of the war on Cybertron, particularly after the loss of Megatron and the half-baked rise of Starscream. The majority of Insecticons were easily controlled and guided by Shockwave. The trio of Kickback, Sharpshot and Hardshell were intelligent enough to think for themselves and potentially guide the Insecticon swarms in a new direction, so Shockwave deliberately courted their favor.

When Grimlock and the rest of his squadron crash-landed in the Sea of Rust, they encountered a large Insecticon nest. Though they fought, they were overrun and abducted by Shockwave for experiments. Though Grimlock, Swoop, Slug, and Snarl survived, Sludge was not so fortunate and was left behind in stasis lock. Not long afterwards, [[Jazz (WFC)|Jazz]] entered the same hive and discovered Slug's body, and also encountered Insecticons as he attempted to escape.

After the [[Dinobot (FOC)|Dinobot]] experiments, Shockwave employed the Insecticons to test [[Grimlock (WFC)|Grimlock]] and his new skills. Thus, when these stronger Insecticons were present, they deferred to their orders otherwise they would attack any foe that entered their lairs. Megatron dispatched Shockwave, Soundwave and Starscream to the vaults that were rumored to hold the mythical relic known as [[The Dark Spark]]. This saw them for the first time encountering the Insecticons where Shockwave managed to best their leaders namely Hardshell, Kickback and Sharpshot. As a result, the trio joined the ranks of the Decepticons and brought their fellow Insecticons into the fold. However, Shockwave commented that the dominance based Insecticons would only be allies so long as they followed their leaders and if said leaders were not present then they could just as likely turn on the Decepticons. It is unlikely that any copies of the Covenant retain this property, as they are presumably only transcriptions of the Covenant as it existed at their time of making.

They later transformed and flew over the surface of the planet with orders not to attack the dominant strain of Cybertronians native to the world. During their travel, they saw the [[Demon|primordial Cybertronians]] hastily constructed shanty town and targeted these sub-evolved creatures for elimination. This was because they considered them to be products of anarchy that were abominations before their conformed universe. The purge was stopped by the intervention of the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]] leading to a skirmish between them and the Primum Fugae. Their battle only ended when Jhiaxus had finished his demands to [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]] whereupon they all departed Cybertron. {{storylink|The War to End All Wars, Part 2}}

This chain of events saw an [[Autobot]] response where they attacked the Primum Fugae on one of the planets in the [[Hub (G2)|Hub Network]]. Initially, this battle saw the Autobots eliminate the Cybertronian defenders but this proved to be an intricate trap made by Jhiaxus. The Mutacons are [[Shifter]] transformers who have been blessed (or cursed) by their discovery of the ancient [[Transformation cog (artifact)|Transformation cog]] of [[Amalgamous Prime]] one of the original [[Thirteen]] transformers. Exposure to it has granted them super-transformational abilities of infinite-transformation and infinite-combination.

Mutacons tend to be silver and blue in color. Individual Mutacons range in size from small [[Minicon]]s to approximately the size of [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]]. Personality-wise they tend to be friendly, inquisitive, light-hearted and easily amused. Though they have been referred to as Pirates, and do have friendly relations with the [[Star Seekers]], in their encounter with the Autobots they acted more like friendly traders, happily offering to trade energon for new information and forms.

Any Mutacon can change into anything they know, can see or sample, and merge with any number of other Mutacons to form bigger, more complex modes. They can also merge with non-Mutacon transformers, a process which allows each to understand what it is like to be the other. From such a merger the Mutacon gains the ability to copy the other's form completely and they can grant the normal Transformer a portion of the Mutacon's transformation and healing powers.

There is, however a Dark side to the Mutacon gifts. They are slowly and involuntarily merging in to one composite being, loosing their individual identities and memories. There is a fear that if the process is not reversed they will eventually become a single amorphous blob being. That might not be terrible, but it's something they would rather avoid.

They travel the stars as a fleet of massive starships composed of their combined bodies, searching for Amalgamous Prime in hopes he can cure their condition.

The Mutacons fled the destruction of the [[Neutronia]] colony in starships when the [[Rust Plague]] that ended the [[Golden Age]] hit. In space they found the Transformation Cog of Amalgamous Prime near a Black Hole. Fearing the destruction of the ancient Treasure they took it with them. The mystical object granted them infinite transformation and infinite combination abilities. However they soon found they were beginning to involuntarily merge into one being, slowly losing their own personalities and memories.

Eventually they traveled the stars as a fleet made from their own forms and had garnered a reputation as pirates.

[[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]] and the Ark crew met their fleet in space where the, friendly enthusiastic and outgoing Mutacon named [[Mercury]] communicated with them and offered to trade energon stores in return for help in locating Amalgamous Prime or for the chance to merge with Optimus Prime to learn how to change into his form. (Bulkhead thought that sounded "kinky"). She caused a moderate uproar of whistles and cat-calls among the male [[Autobot]]s when she visited Prime in person. The Matrix downloaded a history of Cybertron since the Rust Plague to her and she fell on the floor laughing at how dumb the Decepticons were.

Prime promised to help the Muticons solve their shape-changing problem after the Decepticons were no longer a threat. That was good enough for Mercury and she happily returned to the others. Their combined ship form laughed in space and mischievously set about delaying the Autobots pursuers so the Ark could escape on their way. {{storylink|Transformers: The Covenant of Primus}}

*[[Thundertron]] does not believe in mystical artifacts or the Primes and so he refuses to believe the Mutacon's story of their origins. He thinks they were all mutated by exposure to a neutron star. In return they think he's dumb as a post.

* When told about the [[Quintessons]] the Mutacons say they know about those "law obsessed" stick-in-the-muds and aren't impressed. They tried being like that long ago but it was "boooooooooooooooooooring." Which to the mercurial and faeish Mutacons may be worse than death.

They attacked Prime when he and [[Scorponok (G1)|Scorponok]] were discussing their fears of their own mortality. Scorponok realized that they were after Prime, but decided to help anyway. Eventually, the [[Autobot|Autobots]] and [[Decepticon|Decepticons]] came to the aid of their leaders, and defeated the cultists. Later, Primus told Optimus that he had deliberately named him leader of the army with the intention of drawing out the cultists. Royally pissed that he had been used as bait by God, the [[Prime (rank)|Autobot leader]] prepared to give Primus a piece of his mind.

The cannibalizers do not appear to be particularly intelligent, and Autobot soldiers do not consider them very threatening.

However, being submerged in the substance rejuvenated Bumblebee and restored his damaged voice box which allowed him to kill Megatron. With the Decepticons defeat, Team Prime took the ''Nemesis'' to Cybertron though Ratchet did not know Shockwave's part of the formula to create more cyber-matter. As such, they only had a limited supply which was insufficient to restore Cybertron. At some point around the time of his religious "awakening", Tyrest constructed the Legislators as a remorseless, unthinking army programmed to enforce the Tyrest Accord. He sent them to [[Theophany]] where they destroyed the city and captured the surviving members of the [[Circle of Light]]. Tyrest would go on to murder 90% of these captives and use their remains as spare parts for the maintenance of his Legislators. {{storylink|Remain in Light 3 of 5: The Divided Self}}

[[Skids (G1)|Skids]] awoke, amnesiac, to find himself aboard a mode-locked shuttlecraft flying over a planet. As the shuttle began to transform, Skids—trusting his instincts—reset the mode lock, pointed the shuttle at the planet's surface, and bailed out.

The explosive crash of the shuttle destroying one of its three component bots. The two remainders transformed into their massive robot forms and, toting swords and repeating the phrase "Nineteen eighty-four", advanced relentlessly to attack Skids. The wayward theoretician magnetized the corpse of [[Polaris]] and attached it to one of the Legislators, then blew up the body's fuel supply, taking out the giant. Upon reaching the fabled [[Crystal City]] of the [[Circle of Light]], the crew of the Lost Light found it had been utterly razed.
