'''Rampage''' (also known as '''Protoform X''') is the awful result of scientific experimentation gone awry. He is a serial killer and cannibal, with an immortal [[spark]] that ensures his twisted brand of horror and misery will live on as long as he does (forever, presumably). Rampage detects and draws strength from the emotions of others, literally feeding on the pain and suffering he causes. As an unwilling conscript of the [[Predacon (BW)|Predacons]], he is contemptuous (at best) of the rest of his team, typically bored and uncooperative on missions, and he frequently sneaks off for his own purposes to try to relieve his boredom in the most cruel and horrible ways possible.

Protoform X was a [[Maximal]] experiment to recreate [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]]'s mutant, immortal [[spark]]. Though arguably successful in this regard, the creation was unstable. {{storylink|Bad Spark}} In point of fact, despite his intelligence and cunning, he was criminally insane. He was held at [[Colony Omicron]] but soon escaped, killing all of its inhabitants save a lone security officer, [[Depth Charge (BW)|Depth Charge]]. After four stellar cycles of chasing the killer, Depth Charge finally captured him and brought him back to Cybertron, {{storylink|Deep Metal}} but not before Protoform X destroyed [[Starbase Rugby]] and ''devoured'' an unknown number of the inhabitants. {{storylink|Nemesis Part 1}} Rather than destroy him, [[Maximal Elder]]s had Protoform X placed into a [[stasis pod]] aboard an exploration vessel, the ''Axalon''. They instructed its commander, [[Optimus Primal (BW)/Beast Wars cartoon continuity|Optimus Primal]], to dump him on some barren world in deep space.

Protoform X was among the stasis pods jettisoned by Optimus when the ''Axalon'' was damaged by [[Megatron (BW)/Beast Wars cartoon continuity|Megatron's]] Predacons, and only fell out of orbit far into the Beast Wars. Upon landing, the pod's scanners detected a nearby crab, reformatting Protoform X with a [[Beast mode]], which was simultaneously turned into a [[Transmetal]] as a result of being struck by the [[Quantum surge]] while in orbit. Despite this, Protoform X had been rendered inert, either by the impact of the crash or overloaded by the energon his pod had landed near. Battle near his stasis pod eventually shocked him into activation, and he promptly set out to terrorize all nearby Transformers, rending [[Tarantulas (BW)|Tarantulas]] limb from limb and stalking [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] and [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]]. X seemed unstoppable at first, but when one of Silverbolt's missiles jammed his tank treads as he climbed up a mountainside, he lost his grip and tumbled down the rock face in pieces.

As Protoform X lay immobilized, Megatron arrived and, using a blade of pure [[energon]], removed a portion of his indestructible spark. Megatron then had him brought back to the Predacon base and repaired. When X attempted to turn his weapons on his "savior", Megatron revealed that he held half of X's spark in a special cage lined with energon crystals, allowing him to torture the beast at will with a mere squeeze. Megatron thus welcomed him into the Predacon fold, dubbing him "Rampage". {{storylink|Bad Spark}}

Rampage made no secret of his hatred for his new "master", anticipating the arrival of Maximal reinforcements from Cybertron, and the demise Megatron would surely receive as a result. Megatron had other plans in motion, using Rampage's weaponry to destroy a mountain, proving that the future recorded on the [[Golden Disk (Voyager)|Golden Disk]] was mutable. Rampage's services were further pressed into use when the Predacons assaulted a valley full of [[anthropoid]]s, however his contribution came to an end when [[Dinobot (BW)|Dinobot]] forcibly inserted [[Waspinator (BW)|Waspinator]] into his main gun with predictable results. {{storylink|Code of Hero}}

Though a violent sociopath, Rampage was not without compassion. After an attempt by him to regain his spark fragment failed, Rampage encountered a twisted malformed protoform which he dubbed [[Transmutate (BW)|Transmutate]]. He quickly befriended it and attempted to have it inducted into the Predacons. Though Megatron ordered the creature destroyed, Rampage persevered with trying to make it a useful addition to the Predacon forces. He became possessive enough to viciously fight with [[Silverbolt (Fuzor)|Silverbolt]] over it. Rampage was a major component of the assault on the ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]'' when it appeared as though the Maximals were going to receive reinforcements from Cybertron. The Predacons were driven off by an invisible force—the cloaked [[Transwarp cruiser]] flown by [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]]. The cruiser would later be a part of a strike on the Predacon base, during which Rampage unleashed a barrage of missiles on it. Ravage judged the attack "impressive", and responded by using the ship's weapons to blow Rampage to pieces. {{storylink|The Agenda (Part 1)}} Rampage, of course, survived to lead yet another attack on the ''Axalon''. [[Quickstrike (BW)|Quickstrike]] rode triumphantly into battle on back of Rampage's tank mode... until an auto-gun knocked him off, and Rampage uncaringly drove straight over him. The battle ended when [[Rattrap (BW)|Rattrap]] took out the Transwarp cruiser—Rampage managed to outrun the crashing ship and laughed in triumph... only for the still-armed missile on top of the ship to launch in his face. {{storylink|The Agenda (Part III)}}

At Megatron's call to arms, a badly-charred Rampage managed to pull himself together and began trying to pull the ''Axalon'' from its perch, with the aid of a large number of [[arachnoid]]s. He finally met his match in battle when the newly reformatted Optimus Primal attacked him. The huge Maximal leader simply shoved him aside, but Rampage had the last laugh as his deflected missile sent the Maximal base plunging into the lake. Later, Depth Charge arrived on prehistoric Earth with the single-minded goal of destroying Rampage. Rampage was beside himself with joy, eager for revenge on his old "playmate". Depth Charge's loss at Colony Omicron had embittered him, and Rampage used this emotional wound to torment the Maximal. In the end, Depth Charge got the upper hand, and may well have ended the feud then and there if not for the intervention of Quickstrike, which allowed Rampage to sneak away and destroy Depth Charge's ship. {{storylink|Deep Metal|Deep Metal}} Rampage soon met his old enemy again when Rattrap descended to the bottom of the lake to retrieve the [[Sentinel (BW)|Sentinel]] module from the wreckage of the ''Axalon''. Depth Charge had the upper hand in the battle, but Rampage escaped death when Silverbolt argued with Depth Charge over his commitment to the Maximals. {{storylink|Changing of the Guard}}

While the bulk of the Maximal forces were distracted by Megatron's [[Cyber raptor]]s out in the field, Rampage accompanied the Predacon leader in an assault against the Maximals' home base. Though the Predacons nearly took control of the Ark, Depth Charge arrived at the last moment and drove them back. {{storylink|Cutting Edge}}

When Megatron created [[Dinobot II|a clone of Dinobot]], he used Rampage's spark fragment to form the core of the new Predacon, who likewise retained the ability to torture Rampage into continued loyalty with it. Naturally, Rampage was filled with fury and disgust at sharing his spark with a '[[Relatives|half brother]]'. Dinobot was able to use the spark fragment to keep Rampage in line, and the two "brothers" took part in the interrogation of Depth Charge after the [[Transmetal driver]] went missing. When they were attacked by a [[Cheetor (BW)|strange feral beast]], Rampage and Dinobot inadvertently blasted each other. {{storylink|Feral Scream Part 1}}

Rampage would go on to have a second clash with Silverbolt, targeting him when he was filled with grief and rage over Blackarachnia's death; he'd have killed him easily if Blackarachnia hadn't suddenly become alive again and beaten him up. {{storylink|Crossing the Rubicon}} He almost got his revenge when Megatron deliberately gave Blackarachnia to him, and was clearly having fun torturing her before she was able to overpower him. {{storylink|Master Blaster}} Following [[Tigerhawk]]'s destruction of the Predacon base, Rampage and Dinobot were blown away by one strike from the [[Vok]] emissary. {{storylink|Other Victories}}

While Megatron was retrieving the submerged [[Decepticon]] craft ''[[Nemesis (G1)|Nemesis]]'', Depth Charge met Rampage in battle one last time on the ocean floor. At the battle's climax, Rampage allowed Depth Charge to kill him with a shard of raw energon, resulting in a fantastic explosion which destroyed both. Soon after Megatron acquired his dragon body, a temporal disruption drew the attention of both the Maximals and Predacons to a remote canyon, where Rampage and his fellow Predacons met their foes. The Maximals were losing, having been fought into a corner, when suddenly the battle was interrupted. The [[Dark Essence]]—the life force of [[Unicron]]—had possessed the newcomer [[Windrazor (BW)|Windrazor]], the source of the temporal disruption. Rampage and the others were immobilized by Unicron's psionic force blasts, and the merged creature advanced on the Maximals. {{storylink|Paradox}}

The ''Axalon'' was ordered to dispose of "Protoform X" on a barren moon somewhere in the [[Alpha Quadrant]]. However, before its captain, [[Optimus Primal (BW)|Optimus Primal]], was able to explain the circumstances fully to his crew, they were suddenly under even newer orders to pursue a stolen [[Predacon (BW)|Predacon]] ship, the ''[[Darksyde (BW)|Darksyde]]''. Traveling with Waspscream's Predacon crew back to the future Cybertron, Protoform X and some of his comrades survived the [[transformation virus]] that the escaped Megatron had unleashed upon Cybertron. Waspscream's surviving crew made their way to the [[Oracle (BM)|Oracle]], who granted them [[technorganic]] forms. They proceeded to wage a valiant Spark War against Megatron's [[Vehicon (BM)|Vehicon]]s. Many sparks flew, however, when Protoform X and returning Maximal spacefarer Depth Charge had to work together. The twisted product of a Maximal experiment to create an immortal spark, Rampage was born a vampiric monster of incredible regenerative capability who consumed the sparks of others. Sealed away within a stasis pod, he was loaded onto the ''Axalon'' for disposal, but partway into the voyage, he escaped and slaughtered the crew, causing the ship to crash on the planet [[Earth#Notes|Energoa]]. The crash drew the attention of Optimus Primal's Maximals, who were stranded on the planet fighting the [[Beast Wars (event)|Beast Wars]] at the time, and they investigated the ship, which had become submerged in the ocean. Rampage attacked Rattrap and [[Airazor (BW)|Airazor]] just as they discovered his empty pod, eating Rattrap's tail and almost consuming Airazor, before Primal arrived and freed her by severing Rampage's arm. Regrowing the limb, Rampage engaged Primal, seizing him with his abdomen-mouth and forcing him to hack his own arm off to escape.

Primal tried a desperate ploy to take the monster down, stuffing a demolition charge in his head and allowing Rampage to eat it; Primal survived by shifting to [[beast mode]], and though it momentarily seemed the gambit had succeeded, Rampage burst out of the waters in crab mode, grabbed Primal, and dragged him off into the ocean. Using the ship's still-functioning weaponry, Rattrap and Airazor detonated an underwater volcano beneath the pair, creating a shockwave that Primal was then able to ride with his hoverboard, carrying Rampage out of the water and into the air. Primal then lopped off his remaining arm to escape Rampage's grip, disengaged his board, and jammed it into the monster's mouth, leaving it to carry Rampage up into space, stranding him in Energoa's orbit. {{storylink|Beast Wars Metals issue 2|Beast Wars Metals #2}}

On [[Primax 209.0 Gamma|an alternate Cybertron]], the scientist known as [[Deluge (G2)|Deluge]] saw the value of truly unique sparks such as the [[Point One Percenter]]s. He recognized the need for such powerful warriors in battle with [[Unicron]] and other threats that inevitably arose to unite the Cybertronians in a single goal. His work was supported for a time, but when peace was declared, it was no longer deemed necessary. Deluge disagreed, and took it upon himself to continue his work with the proto-races, altering several protoforms to produce Point One Percenters in the new generation. {{storylink|The Inexorable March}} One such success managed to create an inextinguishable [[spark]] that mimicked the properties of [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]]'s lifeforce, but the result was a creature who was consumed with hate and power and an undying taste for violence. Appalled, "Protoform X" was locked away, hoping no one would ever discover him. Instead, inevitably, Protoform X burst free, leaving piles of tortured bodies in his wake. Rampage was being held in the [[Ferromax Detention Center]] when he was witness to [[Dinobot (BW)|Dynobot]]'s jailbreak. He sensed great sorrow and fury in [[Transmutate (BW)|one of Dynobot's rescuers]], and as she left with Dynobot and the others, Rampage encouraged her from his cell to embrace these feelings. {{storylink|Alone Together: Prologue|Prologue}} Eventually he was transferred to the prison ship ''Claustrum'', {{storylink|Intersectionality}} where he was eventually flushed out of the airlock and crashed down on the dwarf planet [[Metascan Omega|LGC-8803]]. Regenerating, he began to hallucinate, but was convinced he was not alone. He followed what appeared to be tracks {{storylink|Paranoia}} and eventually found Trans-Mutate, who'd also been stranded there. {{storylink|Perception}} Though Rampage was unaware, Trans-Mutate was his "sister", a fellow Point One Percenter created by Deluge. {{storylink|The Inexorable March}} By that point he was so low on energy he collapsed mid-speech, and she had to help him by providing power from the [[navicomp]] she'd salvaged. While still debating how to survive, they came under attack from [[Bruton]] and [[Medusa]]. The [[Destructon]] leader provided the pair with [[energon]] and explained the origins of himself and his friends, inviting Trans-Mutate and Rampage to join them. Though Rampage was beginning to feel that the Destructons were his kin, Trans-Mutate pointed out the inconsistencies in Lord Imperious Delirious's story and insisted they should leave. Lord Imperious Delirious responded with Delirious Fire. {{storylink|Delirious}} Though Rampage was sunk into an endless torture, reliving his repeated deaths at the hands of Maximal scientists, he managed to reach out to Trans-Mutate, stuck in her own private hell, and help her pull herself together enough to use her power. Free of Delirious's illusions, the pair defeated Bruton and Medusa. The Destructons opted to leave Rampage and Trans-Mutate to be picked up by whoever answered the distress call Delirious had sent to Cybertron. {{storylink|Clarity}}

Help soon arrived in the form of the ''Dinosaur''. The Destructons attacked the ship on arrival, and then attacked the crew when they reached the ground. Rampage was absent for much of that, scouting around for their presence. He soon returned to his and Trans-Mutate's dwelling to find her talking with a group of Predacons. Rampage filled them in on what had been happening. Once made aware of their nature, Hard Head offered to let Rampage and Trans-Mutate hide aboard their ship until they reached somewhere more pleasant. As they talked, everyone realized Imperious had lured the Cybertronians to the planet in order to gain access to their ship.

Rampage joined with the ragtag crew to fight Delirious. During the fight, Rampage was hit by Bruton's Confusion Club, and he began lashing out at his erstwhile allies, until he managed to snap out of it, turning into his tank mode and destroying Bruton. His attempt to do this to Imperious didn't work as well, temporarily reducing Rampage to a charred wreck. On recovering, he came too to find Delirious trying to override the shuttle controls, and tried rushing him, only to be blasted with Delirious's Delirious Fire. While distracted, Rampage was bound, and Hard Head taken away by the Destructon.

Once out of sight, Delirious began violently removing Hard Head's spark, which the others could hear. Rampage felt jealousy for Hard Head's situation. With some help from Crazybolt, everyone managed to get free, only to find Delirious had implanted Bruton into Hard Head's body. Bruton then used the former Predacon's abilities to attack everyone, but Rampage took the blast. He recovered just as Delirious got into the shuttle, leaping onto it as it took off. Rampage managed to surprise Delirious, sending the craft down, but was soon overpowered and lost his gun. In desperation, Rampage used his [[Galva-conductor]]s to fry both of them, then used the momentary distraction to tear Imperious' head off. This left Rampage on a ship hurtling toward the ground, which he was okay with. And then someone went and activated a tractor beam which softened the crash.

Once the situation was over, Rampage went with some of the ''Dinosaur''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s crew back to Cybertron. {{storylink|Intersectionality}} Their return was not exactly graceful, with their shuttle crash-landing in the middle of Builder-controlled territory. Making their way through the warzone to link up with the Resistance, Rampage began finding himself developing an odd attachment to the Predacon crew. After several orbital cycles, they managed to join the Resistance. Rampage took an immediate dislike to pretty much damn near everyone in it, except for [[Preditron]], and stuck with the ex-''Dinosaur'' crew when they went on their first mission, followed by their second, and then third and fourth, even as he felt helping the Resistance was a betrayal of his very being.

When the Beast Upgrade came around, Rampage took on a decapodian alternate mode, still sticking with Magmatron's crew. He was with them when they were sent to Proximax to take out the traitor Snapper as he was being transferred to Iacon, ambushing the convoy on the Hoist Metrospan. Rampage found himself brawling with Buckethead, but their fight was interrupted by the arrival of [[Stiletto (BW)|two]] [[Overshoot|interlopers]], one of whom insisted they were all on the same side. Annoyed and outnumbered, Rampage decided to just the destroy the bridge they were all standing on, sending all five mechanoids plummeting into the depths of Cybertron.

When Rampage came to, it was as one of the interlopers was kicking him, while the other asked her to stop, claiming Rampage was needed, something that irked him mightily. However, when Overshoot insisted everyone needed to work together and go further down, Rampage still went along, even helping carry Snapper on his back until they reached their destination, which turned out to be the Oracle, warning them of a scheme of the Antares Eight to antagonise humanity. Rampage found the idea of helping humans ''hilarious'', but went along with the idea anyway, finding something about doing the Oracle's work... fitting. By the time the motley crew of "ex-bots" reached the surface, their intended targets were already attacking a nearby hyperwave caster tower. Rampage fought with the otherworldly cyborgs, until one of their number captured Stiletto, forcing the others to surrender, much to Rampage's disgruntlement. Then one of the cyborgs executed Overshoot. Acting quickly, Rampage grabbed Buckethead and Snapper and hurled himself off the tower. Though the impact of his landing killed him, he quickly recovered, much to his allies' alarm and his continuing irritation. After he recovered, Snapper suggested the Builder and proto-former gather their allies, who were still nearby and engaged in their own skirmish.

Rampage and Buckethead made their way to Sights & Sounds Casino, splitting up to convince their respective teammates to stop fighting and help deal with the Antares Eight, Rampage identifying himself to Archadis and "persuading" the Predacon to take him to Magmatron in his own inimitable style. Despite himself, Rampage asked Magmatron for help, feeling that he would naturally be rejected, only for Magmatron to instead ask where they were going.

The ragtag Predacon team made their way back to the Proximax tower, only for the alien cyborgs to summon allies of their own, who had a combiner form. While Buckethead and her teammates dealt with it, Rampage tussled with Klaws, until Monsterous was defeated, at which point Klaws fled, leaving only one of the Antares Eight to deal with. Unfortunately, he was waiting for them, and activated a quantumite trap which disabled Rampage and Snapper, but not Stiletto, who'd been pre-warned by Overshoot's ghost, and she was able to disable the trap, before killing Creepy to prevent him leveraging his knowledge into survival. Rampage was still recovering when two humans showed up, their casual arrogance angering the proto-former enough to rouse him to his feet, until Stiletto restrained him. Angered, Rampage handed over the human object that had drawn their attention and told them to leave, which they did.

In the aftermath, the various factions gathered in Sights and Sounds to discuss terms, which soon turned in arguing until Rampage silenced everyone by declaring Snapper was under his protection, and that he was done with the Resistance, having found a purpose in working with the newly dubbed [[Ex-Bot (BWU)|Ex-Bots]]. {{storylink|Cultural Appropriation}}

Rampage briefly left the Ex-Bots on a personal mission that he did not disclose the purpose of, but returned at the height of the [[Vehicon Apocalypse]]. He was NOT happy to hear that the group was planning to ally with Lio Convoy and the Resistance, but upon seeing footage of the marauding [[Vehicon (BM)|Vehicon]] horde, his disgust turned to joy. Recognizing the end of the world possibly being at hand, Rampage eagerly agreed to throw himself into the thick of a potentially-never ending battle. He even enthusiastically listened as [[Bazooka (BW)|Bazooka]] unveiled the [[Ex-Jet]] and described its weapon systems to everyone.

Rampage joined the Ex-Bots in smashing Vehicons until a new threat revealed itself— the repaired [[Grand Mal]] rose into the sky, under the control of Lord Imperious Delirious' consciousness. Deciding his destiny was to face Delirious again for a third and final time, Rampage breached the Grand Mal's energy shields and infiltrated the flying fortress. He encountered [[Blackarachnia (BW)|Blackarachnia]] and [[Ro-Tor (RID)|Ro-Tor]], on their way to blow the Grand Mal up from the inside with Ro-Tor's internal bomb. Fed up with "greater good" sacrifices, Rampage tore Ro-Tor's bomb out of the [[K-Class]]er's innards and manually (and gruesomely) installed it within himself. He told the two to get out of the Grand Mal while he continued on to the Grand Mal's datacore.

Delirious took note of Rampage's presence and was overjoyed to face his old nemesis again. After Rampage reached the datacore, he was restrained by tendrils as Delirious vowed to spend an eternity torturing him to death. Rampage violently tore one of his arms free and began pounding on his chest, seeking to trigger the internal bomb. Delirious realized what he was attempting too late and the bomb detonated, utterly obliterating the Grand Mal and ending Delirious' threat. Weeks later, in the depths of the massive crater that the explosion had created, Rampage came back online again, having regenerated from being nearly atomized. After howling in despair at being wrenched from death's embrace yet again, he slowly began to climb out of his would-be grave. {{storylink|Derailment}}

One year after the Uprising, Rampage located his creator Deluge in Ultrix. They shared a surprisingly calm conversation as Deluge related his reasons for creating Rampage in the first place. The old scientist believed his work justified, especially considering Rampage's key role during the Vehicon Apocalypse. Rampage could not forgive the pain he had suffered in life, or the hundreds of victims who died in failed experiments leading up to his creation. He had poisoned the bottle of Visco the two shared during their talk, a dose of [[cyber venom]] that promised a drawn out and painful death over the next few megacycles. As Deluge knowingly prepared for his death and congratulated Rampage on his revenge, Protoform X decided to show mercy. Tens of thousands of years later, the history of "Protoform X" had passed out of knowledge, with some historians believing no bot could have survived the K-Bomb blast, and that there must have been more than one. For many years, a dormant Jetfire had hidden in his alternate mode at the [[Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum]]'s {{w|Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center}}, until [[Seymour Simmons]], [[Sam Witwicky]], [[Mikaela Banes]], [[Leo Spitz]] and [[Wheelie (ROTF)|Wheelie]] broke in with a small fragment of the [[AllSpark]]. It was only after the AllSpark shard hit Jetfire that they bothered to check which side he was on. The sight of the Decepticon [[insignia]] sent the humans scrambling for cover, but the surge of energy awoke him. Confused at the "hideous mausoleum" he was held in, Jetfire decided to head outside to get a better handle on where he was. After his attempts at overriding and shooting the doors failed, Jetfire smashed them aside, then wandered about the planes outside, damaging a few. When the humans tried to talk to him, he initially claimed that he couldn't deal with them, as he had a mission, but did ask what planet he was (he wasn't too fond of the name "Earth", feeling it might as well be called "Dirt"). Jetfire inquired on the state of the civil war, and revealed that he had defected to the Autobots (it's an intensely personal decision). This led the smaller Wheelie to defect to a [[Mikaela Banes|human female]] he dubbed "warrior goddess". After the human Sam asked what he was saying, Jetfire, still confused, pounded the ground and shouted that he had a lot of issues regarding his mother, and that his father was the first wheel, who did not transform but performed his functions with honor and dignity. At which point a parachute stored in him suddenly popped open, bringing him down. Sam then tried to explain what was going on.

When Sam was finished carving [[Cyberglyphics|Cybertronian symbols]] on the ground, he mentioned Megatron and [[The Fallen]]. Jetfire ranted that The Fallen was the original Decepticon and had left him on Earth to rust. The symbols were a part of Jetfire's mission, and they jogged his memory banks enough to convince him to open a [[space bridge]], teleporting the entire group (including [[Bumblebee (Movie)|Bumblebee]], [[Skids (ROTF)|the]] [[Mudflap (ROTF)|twins]], and Wheelie) to [[Egypt]]. Thankful that he had managed to stay on the planet, Jetfire then told them the story of the Dynasty of Primes and The Fallen, Cybertron's first contact with Earth, the [[Star Harvester]] which could destroy a [[Sun]] and convert it to energon, and the Matrix of Leadership needed to activate it, hidden on Earth. Sam told him of [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]]; this caught the ancient Seeker's interest, revealing eagerness in the Prime's whereabouts, but became distraught to hear of Prime's death. Sam then wondered if the Matrix could restore Optimus to life. Jetfire said it was not the Matrix's intended use, but that the power within was unlike any known. Sadly, this was all Jetfire could do for the group, and after telling them of the riddle, he urged them to hurry off and find the [[Tomb of the Primes]].

During the final [[Operation: Firestorm|battle]] around the [[Great Pyramid of Giza]] (which contained the Star Harvester), Jetfire arrived and attempted to "stick" the landing, which didn't go quite as he planned. He immediately decided to "show how they brought the pain in my day", using his axe to slice [[Mixmaster (ROTF)|Mixmaster]] across the chest and decapitate the [[Constructicon (ROTF)|Constructicon]]. He was critically wounded by a surprise attack from [[Scorponok (Movie)|Scorponok]] and although he managed to crush the Decepticon's head, the injury was fatal. Fortunately, Jetfire was treated to one last wonder, as Sam Witwicky used the Matrix to resurrect Optimus. Jetfire was overjoyed of the moment, hardly believing that he was seeing a living [[Prime (rank)|Prime]]. Unfortunately, The Fallen teleported in and attacked, damaging Optimus and stealing the Matrix, placing it in the harvester. The Cube gave these beings mighty powers, as well as terraforming their world, but it was not limitless, and gradually became depleted. The first beings learned that the AllSpark's power could be replenished by harvesting the energy of stars, but they were unable to locate new stars to suit their purposes, despite their amazing ability to travel between dimensions. Once again, the Cube came to the rescue, creating a race of workers who had the ability to change their shape.

Jetfire was among the very first of these new beings, a "[[Seeker (ROTF)|Seeker]]" with the ability to travel across the vastness of space in search of new suns. Along the way, he was confronted by [[Cave brute|strange, inhuman beasts]] that inhabited the caves, and slew all those that dared attack him. Finally, in [[1913]], addled and sluggish from lack of energy, he found the source of the signal: the AllSpark itself, which was in the process of being excavated by the same humans he had met in the Arctic! Fending off another attack on his person, Jetfire reached for the cube, inadvertently triggering a discharge of [[Energon]] from it that brought [[AllSpark Mutation|several surrounding machines to life]], and overloaded his systems. Jetfire next surfaced in [[1944]], in the form of a Lockheed P-38 Lightning, when he was captured by [[Nazi]] scientists during [[World War II]] and imprisoned in a cryo-chamber in [[Castle Neuschwanstein]]. The Nazis studied his body and mind, reverse-engineering transforming tank-mecha from his systems and prising a map of the cave system from his memory. When [[Sector Seven]]—the government organization which had grown out of that original group of humans Jetfire had fought in the Arctic—got wind of the new Nazi technology, they dispatched a unit led by [[Bill Simmons|William Simmons]] to find and destroy Jetfire. Simmons was the only survivor of the team, and made it into Castle Neuschwanstein before being confronted by the Nazis' ultimate creation, the [[Panzer-Giganten]], which he tried to destroy by throwing a satchel of explosives at it. The explosives instead struck Jetfire's chamber, freeing the Seeker from his confinement, and he proceeded to stop the Panzer-Giganten by tearing out of its human components. Demanding to know how humans could do something so hideous to their own kind, Jetfire was told by Simmons that it was not his doing, and that he believed his bomb would have killed them all, prompting Jetfire to inquire why he valued his life so little. Simmons retorted that he did value his life, but valued freedom more, something that gave Jetfire pause, reminding him of his reasons for turning on The Fallen millennia before. Jetfire's experience with Simmons deeply affected him, and he evidently shadowed the man and his organization over the following five years, taking the form of a Lockheed U-2 spy plane. In [[1954]], he was present when sabotage at Sector Seven's Arctic base left Simmons and a small crew trapped with a rapidly-thawing Megatron. [[Walter Simmons]] called for liquid nitrogen bombs to be dropped on the complex, at which point Jetfire swooped to intervene, transforming and shielding the younger Simmons' wife [[Tova Anael Fischer|Anne]] and [[Philip Nolan]] from the freezing blast. When Jetfire sadly informed Walter that he had been unable to save William, Walter could only ask why he had done anything at all. :Unlike the original Leader-class toy, Jetfire [[Partformer|splits into separate components]] to combine with Optimus, just like in the movie! Five of these components form the boots, shoulder pads, and wings for Jetwing Optimus Prime, while Jetfire's upper body forms a big freakin' gun! Two gunmetal pieces used to form the barrel of this cannon are stored on the underside of the wings and plug into the slots where the front of the jet is disconnected from. However, as this gun is roughly a third of Jetfire's mass, it is too heavy for Prime to lift up unassisted. Fortunately, there is a 3 mm port under Jetfire's head, allowing a figure stand (not included) to support the weight of the gun. While the Hasbro release's instructions do not tell you how to form the gun, the [http://web.archive.org/web/20201112010824/https://tf.takaratomy.co.jp/wpadmin/wp-content/themes/tf/img/products/tf_ss/item_tf_ss-26_manual.pdf TakaraTomy instructions] show how. The latter's instructions also mention one other feature not shown in Hasbro's instructions: the abdominal replacement piece can be stored in a cavity right behind Jetfire's chest. It should also be noted that the small flip-out tabs on Prime's grill are used to fasten the jet engines to his back securely; this is pointed out but somewhat unclear in the instructions of both versions. Care must be taken when combining him with Optimus, as it can place much stress on the hinges that Prime’s grills are connected to.

:In combined mode, the cane folds up and attaches to the large tab on Optimus' left arm, resembling the smaller on-screen gun. The axe can store on the wings/backpack, utilizing the tab used by the gray gun barrel pieces.

:A rather severe issue was found on some copies of Jetfire: the pinned hinge connecting the central black strut to Jetfire's chest can break, permanently separating the torso from the rest of the body.

:Jetfire's box is noticeably thicker than that of other Studio leaders. The CG renders on the sides of the packaging still use the concept art version of the character, while the one used on the front has a new render with the correct design.
