the Beast Wars II Maximal
:Diver is a Maximal from the Beast Wars II portion of the Generation 1 continuity family.

Diver (ダイバー Daibā) comes across as a timid, skittish sort of Maximal, which is true to a point. Honestly, he's just way too relaxed and unmotivated to bother with bravery and initiative. A sleepy slacker, Diver prefers to spend his free time soaking in the ambient serenity of nature (with a good nap). And while on duty, Diver absolutely savors unambitious, mundane activities like manual labor and sentry duty. He'd probably be a total wash-out if it weren't for his best friend, Tasmania Kid, whose rowdy, enthusiastic, unwavering lust for adventure and mischief frequently drags him kicking and screaming (or snoring and grumbling) into dangerous situations.

Diver can transform into a frog and is capable of spitting his robot head out of his mouth, attached to the tip of his tongue. Diver's special attack consists of blowing bubbles at his enemies... Deadly bubbles. All right, so he may not be the fiercest warrior out on the battlefield, but he understands the value of friendship and loyalty, and it's those values which most often incite him to acts of heroism which surprise and impress those who underestimate him.
Kenji Nakano (Japanese)

Diver was a member of the Maximals, serving on a squad under Convoy's leadership. When Convoy went missing in an explosion inside an asteroid belt, the squad was at loose ends on how to proceed as a group. Once NAVI alerted them to a threat on the planet Gaia, however, the team rallied each other's spirits and fired up the Yukikaze. Unfortunately, they were shot down in the skies over Gaia, and had to use escape pods to land. Diver adopted the form of a giant frog, and reunited with Scuba and Tasmania Kid in the marshlands. Together, their unit found the Predacons aboard the Galvaburg II, preparing to loot the planet of Angolmois Energy resources. The Maximals were captured temporarily, but escaped with the help of a white lion who led them away from the Predacon ship. The New Forces Arrive!

Diver and the others found the crash site of the Yukikaze with the help of the white lion, who revealed himself to be Convoy, now Lio Convoy after his beast mode scanning. They began making plans to oppose the Predacons efforts on Gaia, and preserve the planet's natural resources and animal life against exploitation. White Lion, Run!

When Lio Convoy tasked the Maximals with locating the Galvaburg II, Diver ended up being the successful one. Of course, this meant he had to confront Megastorm one-on-one until reinforcements arrived, so "success" is a relative term. Bighorn's Rage After Tasmania Kid was captured by the Predacons, Diver and Scuba teamed up to access their undersea base while the other Maximals were occupied on land inside an electrified cage of bars. Diver located the controls for the trap, and tried randomly pushing a button to free his friends. Instead, the cage started to retract inwards and crush his comrades. Giving up on the delicate approach, Diver decided to just smash the controls with his fists and hope for the best. It worked, and the Maximals all escaped. The Lake Trap

The Maximals were hard pressed to stop Megastorm's latest ploy to capture the planet's energy, dispatching an overwhelming quantity of autonomous robot drones to build fortresses for the Predacons. This became the least of their problems, however, when Galvatron emerged for the first time on Gaia. His dragon and drill tank modes proved virtually unstoppable, and Diver and the Maximals were barely able to slow him down. In the end, it was a sneak attack by Megastorm that upset his brother's footing and sent him tumbling into an open volcano, leaving the Maximals confused over who their secret ally was.Galvatron Revived

Next, Diver and the Maximals moved on to the Southern Continent to investigate a new string of energy readings. Mystery of the Ancient Ruins As the Maximals became aware of the Insectrons' presence on Gaia, Lio Convoy wanted to make peaceful contact and prove the Maximals weren't their enemies. Diver and Scuba were paired up to search the Insectrons' territory. The Insect Corps Arrive

Diver earned some ridicule from Bighorn when he refused to perform daredevil tricks showing off his jumping ability, and preferred to quietly and safely climb down a ridge instead. Bighorn thought him a coward, but Lio Convoy called them in for a meeting before the argument grew too heated. Diver, Bighorn and Tasmania Kid went on another search for the Insectrons, under instructions by Lio Convoy not to engage in fighting. When Starscream and BB used a missile to lure the Maximals into an Insectron nest, however, the hostile Bighorn prepared to charge right at the insects. Diver's attempts to make Bighorn obey Lio Convoy's orders only seemed like more cowardice to Bighorn, who attacked the foreign Transformers.

Diver found himself fighting the engineer Drill Nuts, whose drill attacks and missiles tested his agility. When one of the missiles didn't explode, however, Drillnuts forgot about Diver entirely and knelt down to tinker with his invention and find out what went wrong with the detonator. A bemused Diver stopped short, and awkwardly offered to help Drillnuts with his warhead. The predacons' plot was to attack the Maximals once their energy levels were low from battling the Insectrons, and sure enough Bighorn over-exerted himself fighting Powerhug, leaving him unable to transform. Diver positioned himself between Bighorn and the Predacons' attacks, having cautiously conserved enough energy to defend them both with his soap bubble projections. Diver's defense worked long enough for Lio Convoy to arrive with the other Maximals to back them up. Afterwards, Bighorn apologized and acknowledged that Diver's way of doing things had merit, and Diver laughed off Bighorn's earlier hostility. Friend or Foe? The Insect Robos

When Starscream tried to drug the Insectrons into fighting with each other over spiked oil, Diver and the Maximals arrived to cool the 'bots down, and then they all joined forces against the equally drunk Galvatron. These events cemented a peace between the Maximals and Insectrons. The Strongest Tag Team? That peace almost fell apart when Diver saw Bigmos of the Insectrons grasping shoulders in camaraderie with Autostinger of the Predacons. This was a misunderstanding over an old debt Bigmos owed Stinger, though, which he resolved and so the Insectrons continued to stand with the Maximals. Autorollers Roll Out!

Diver and the Maximals intercepted the Autorollers after they captured Tasmania Kid and Scissor Boy, freeing their friends after a fight with Megastorm and his mercenaries. Danger! Scissor Boy Diver and the Maximals later joined forces with the Autorollers when Galvatron went on a rampage while engorged on Angolmois Energy. The two groups overfed Galvatron with Angolmois Energy until his bloated form nearly exploded from within, rendering him harmless. Galvatron Rampages

When the Predacons launched a massive offensive on the Southern Continent, Diver and the Maximals teamed up with the Insectrons to foil their plans once again. Predacon General Offensive!

Diver responded to a NAVI alert when an unknown spaceship crashed on the Eastern continent. He joined Bighorn and Tasmania Kid on one of the advance recon ships to locate the crash site. They got into a fight with Starscream and BB over the wreckage before the mighty warrior Tripledacus presented himself and started fighting both sides. Once the Predacons were driven off, Tripledacus grabbed Diver in his massive claws. After scanning Diver's Maximal signature insignia, however, Tripledacus revealed himself to be a Maximal combination of the friendly (if annoying) Jointron brothers. The Combined Giant, Tripledacus

The Jointrons proved to be highly exasperating for the Maximals. They followed Diver in from patrol one day, bulldozing over him and Apache in a half-baked scheme to lure the Predacons to the Maximals advance ship/base and then...do something clever they hadn't thought of yet. Diver and Apache couldn't stop the Jointrons from turning off the cloaking field, and sure enough Dirge and Thrust soon entered the ship and got the drop on them all. Gimlet managed to smash up the communications system, so the Predacons couldn't call in reinforcements, and Diver was forced at gunpoint to begin repairs on the comms. In the meantime, the Jointrons got the Predacons really drunk, so they couldn't fight back when Lio Convoy and the other Maximals arrived to retake the ship. But when the Jointrons tried to call Maximal HQ to report their victory, they forgot the communications system was down and let Dirge and Thrust escape, making the whole day a wasted ordeal. The Festive Jointrons

While the Maximals were searching for the latest Predacon fortress, Diver and Tasmania Kid were exploring with the Jointrons. When they spotted a black smoke cloud like those typically unleashed by the Predacons' dealings with Angolmois Energy, the flying Jointrons decided to send in a reconnaissance patrol...by dropping Diver and Kid into the cloud. The Maximals only found a smoke machine on the ground, signifying a Predacon trap. Indeed, Starscream and BB arrived and exposed them all to a bacteria bomb that robbed them of their power. The Jointrons' teamwork fell apart, as Gimlet was free of the bacteria and refused to combine with the others and risk exposure to the bacteria. Lio Convoy and the other Maximals saved the Jointrons by posing as the massive Jointron II. They compensated for Kid and Diver's exposure to the bacteria by sharing energy between one another, in a proud display of teamwork. A Fearsome Combination Plan?

The Jointrons caused more chaos when they stole one of the base ships to approach a Predacon fortress from the air. Diver and the Maximals followed them in the second ship, but were rammed out of the sky by the Jointrons' poor piloting. The Predacons were engaged in an operation to kidnap the Jointrons and study their combination transformation. While the other Maximals held back the Autorollers, Diver and Bighorn raced to free the captive Jointrons. Fortunately, Scuba appeared to save the day, the Jointrons were freed, and the installation was soon destroyed. Who Is the Leader!?

Returning to the North Continent, Lio Convoy gave Diver free rein to fortify the waterfall by the fallen Yukikaze with defenses. This proved advantageous when an evil clone of Lio Convoy was created by the Copy Machine left for the Maximals by Galvatron. Copy Convoy knew everything Lio Convoy did, and turned that knowledge to his advantage against the Maximals. Because Lio Convoy did not know the details of Diver's work at the Niagara Base, though, Copy Convoy was surprised by the traps and defenses Diver had worked into the surroundings, and the Maximals were victorious. The Black Lio Convoy

When the Maximals detected a ship landing near the Sea continent, they took a ship to investigate. Since the energy readings came from underwater, Scuba and Diver were tapped for reconnaissance. They discovered the Space Pirate Seacons pillaging Angolmois Energy from beneath the sea, and reported back to Lio Convoy. The Maximals were confronted by Halfshell, the Seacons' captain, who proved to be a mighty opponent on his own. When he called in the rest of the Seacons to form God Neptune, Lio Convoy dispatched Scuba and Diver to seize the pirates' ship while the others kept God Neptune busy. The frog and the squid began sailing away with the Photon sailer, drawing God Neptune to chase them. Once he caught the vessel, Diver and Scuba abandoned ship and detonated the canisters of Angolmois Energy on board, leaving the ship crippled and the Seacons in disarray. The Space Pirate Seacons!

When Artemis and Moon got into a discussion over who was the strongest of the Cybertronians, they contacted the Maximals and Predacons for input. As the weakest of the Maximals, Diver and Tasmania Kid were compared to the Combatron officers Dirge and Thrust. Diver's...unorthodox soap bubble power and extendo-neck led Galvatron to declare victory for the Predacons in this particular match-up. Who Is the Strongest Warrior!?

One day, Tasmania Kid and Diver were bemused to discover Bighorn searching for a four-leafed clover to bring himself luck. Their amusement turned to exasperation when Bighorn fell wildly in love with the Space Pirate named Scylla, concocting an elaborate fantasy where she was a space princess being held hostage by the other Pirates. Kid and Diver had to follow along behind to make sure Bighorn didn't inadvertently start a war with the Seacons while Convoy was still sorting out their allegiance (and occasionally remind the love-sick Bighorn that he couldn't swim when he repeatedly tried following Scylla into the water). The Tentacular Scuba

Megastorm hired the Seacons to eliminate the Maximals, and so they arranged a series of transmitters as bait to lure the Maximals to different battlegrounds. Diver was confronted by the speedy Sea Phantom underwater, and had difficulty avoiding the fast-moving shark. He eventually got Sea Phantom to chase him back onto land, where he sought help from Lio Convoy. During the chase, Sea Phantom had inadvertently hooked the transmitter on his fin, not knowing Megastorm had also installed a bomb in it. The bomb ended up exploding just as Megastorm and Sea Phantom crossed paths, saving Diver from any further conflict. Megastorm's Reckoning

When Kid and Bighorn were set adrift by a Seacon attack, Diver and Scuba swam out to rescue them off their makeshift raft. Diver gave Kid a lift, but they were assaulted by the flying Terrormander. Above or below the waves, Terrormander pursued Diver and Kid until Scuba drew them to momentary safety on a floating rock. The Maximals were only saved from God Neptune's final strike by the timely arrival of the Insectrons. Showdown in the Sea

As Diver and Kid were on patrol with Bighorn, he suddenly got a call and suspiciously raced off with a bouquet of roses. Fearing something stupid and/or violent was about to happen, Diver and Kid tracked him down and found Bighorn intended to engage in some playacting with the Jointrons in order to win Scylla's affections, but the Predacons and other Seacons had gotten involved in the mess too. As the fiasco degenerated into a battle between Tripledacus and God Neptune, the Maximals provided cover for their combiner comrade. Face the Setting Sun When the Seacons prepared to leave Gaia, Halfshell arranged to fight Lio Convoy one-on-one for the energy they needed to depart. Well, God Neptune is technically a "one". Diver and Scuba were suspicious of the Seacons, and reported to the other Maximals when they saw who Lio Convoy's competition was. In the end, though, Lio Convoy survived and the Seacons departed the planet. The Final Battle (BWII)

While surveying the unstable changes in Gaia's Angolmois Energy, Diver and Kid ran across a lion cub that they initially mistook for Lio Convoy himself. After a short encounter, they realized the youngster was actually a new Maximal who only bore a startlingly resemblance to Lio Convoy. Tasmania Kid started joking that the cub was a real "Lio Junior", but Diver cautioned him to be serious in case the cub took what he said to heart. Sure enough, when Lio Convoy caught up to them, Lio Junior ran right up to their Commander and called him "mama". Diver smartly disassociated himself from Kid and everything he said. Enter Lio Junior Back at the Niagara Base, Diver tried to cheer up the dejected Lio Junior, but his swimming only irritated Scuba and did little to raise the cub's spirits. He also joined the Maximals in their first confrontation with the powered-up Megastorm, now the Angolmois Energy-infused Gigastorm. Megastorm Reborn

Diver was part of a Maximal plan to destroy Gigastorm. The Archduke of Destruction was lured into a mountain pass where the Maximals destroyed the ground under his feet, then set off a natural gas explosion. Unfortunately, even this amount of devastation wasn't enough to deal with Gigastorm. The conflict was interrupted by the arrival of Scuba's new vehicle, the Tako Tank, which helped turn the tide against Gigastorm when the initial plan fell apart.
The New Weapon, Tako Tank

After detecting a faint distress signal from space, Diver and the Maximals recalled their encounters with the Seacons. The Artificial Planet Nemesis

Scuba was in the process of demonstrating the Tako Tank's capabilities to Diver and the others when Lio Junior detected emissions of evil Angolmois Energy. Diver followed Lio Junior as he tracked the Angolmois Energy to a mining facility being run by the Autorollers. The Maximals charged into battle, only to learn a lesson about planning and overconfidence when the Predacons locked them inside the base and then blew it up. Miraculous, Diver and the others survived. Gigastorm's Treachery

Diver and Kid were admiring Scuba's new Tako Tank when impulsively pushed a pretty, pretty button. Now trapped in the runaway Tako Tank as it was set to explode, Diver and the others raced to save Kid before Scuba climbed aboard and shut down the Tako Tank. This led into an encounter with the new Hellscream and Max-B. The End of Starscream

When a mysterious ship crashed on Gaia, the Maximals prepared to investigate. Lio Junior volunteered to lead the expedition, but Diver and many of the others teased Junior for his youth and inexperience, saying a more seasoned Maximal should be in charge. Tasmania Kid stepped up to support Lio Junior and volunteered to assist him on the mission, leading to Lio Convoy's approval. The mission revealed the crashed ship was a teleport gate, able to summon warriors from anywhere in space and time. Although the Maximals captured the command key for the gate, the gate itself was seized by the Predacons and Tasmania Kid was seriously injured defending Lio Junior. Diver and the Maximals blamed Lio Junior for Kid's injuries, leading Junior to take on the Predacons alone. Kid finally climbed off his sickbed to tell Diver and the others to leave Lio Junior alone, as he was only trying to show them he was a worthy comrade, and win their trust.

With Lio Junior's command key, the Predacons summoned an apocalyptic beast known as Majin Zarak, and lay siege to Gaia. Diver and the Maximals were unable to get close enough to defeat Majin Zarak, but Lio Junior summoned Optimus Primal using the gate to supplement their forces. Lio Convoy placed Diver and Scuba on surveillance, and they used the Yukikaze's scanners to pinpoint Majin Zarak's weak spot: his third eye. The Maximals lured Majin Zarak into a box canyon, where Lio Convoy and Optimus Primal combined the power of their Energon Matrixes to defeat the great beast. Diver watched on as Optimus Primal returned to his personal war through the gate. Lio Convoy in Imminent Danger!

With the artificial planet Nemesis creeping ever closer to Gaia, its influence on the Angolmois Energy was ever more keenly felt. Diver and the Maximals tried using freeze devices to cool the unstable Angolmois Energy before it upset the planet's core. The Great Angolmois Freezing Tactic Diver and the Maximals retrofitted one of the Niagara Base's cannons to funnel Angolmois Energy, making it potentially powerful enough to destroy the oncoming Nemesis. In order to get the artillery cannon into position with a minimal amount of interference, Lio Convoy arranged for two prop cannons to be transported in order to distract the Predacons. Diver was part of the first team that openly and brazenly transported their cannon across open ground, while Scuba transported a second fake underwater, and Magnaboss brought up the rear carrying the true cannon. Unfortunately, the Angolmois Energy proved too powerful for the cannon, and it ultimately self-destructed before taking out Nemesis. Knock Out Nemesis Later on, Diver and Scuba, in the Tako Tank, arrived as back-up to assist the Maximals when Magnaboss went berserk after Lio Junior was infected with evil Angolmois Energy. Lio Junior's Revolt!?

Diver and the Maximals were working on breaking down the Yukikaze for Lio Convoy's latest plan against Nemesis when a UFO robot crashed nearby. NAVI determined the robot was sent by automatic signal from a Gaian colony temple on Mars in response to Nemesis's arrival. The emissary robot claimed it could stop the corrupted Angolmois Energy, and so Lio Convoy told Diver and the others to keep working while he investigated. Emissary of the Fourth Planet Unfortunately, it turned out the robot planned to stop the corrupted Angolmois Energy by crashing the moon into Gaia and destroying everyone on it. Diver and the Maximals joined Lio Convoy at the mother computer to break through its defenses so that NAVI could reprogram it, saving the moon, Gaia, and everyone on both. The Crisis of Planet Gaia

Navi and Drill Nuts assisted the Maximals in retrofitting Skywarp and Santon's spaceship so that it could be used to reach the artificial planet Nemesis. An underground launch tunnel was built in secret under the Rock Mountains to launch the ship into space. Secrecy was paramount, and so when Hellscream and Max-B began snooping around the mountains, Lio Convoy had Diver and the team "reveal" the location of their Niagara Base to Dirgegun and Thrustor, drawing the Predacons' attention away. Diver was reluctant to help Bighorn and Tasmania Kid with the distraction, as he didn't want to sacrifice all his work on the Niagara Base just to occupy the Predacons.

The Rock Mountains launch tube was uncovered soon anyway, leading Diver and the others to race from Niagara to the mountains in order to make the launch window. They were opposed by Galvatron, but their friends Magnaboss and Tripledacus helped clear the path. Diver and the Yukikaze crew made it on board the ship with Lio Convoy and Apache at the last moment, clearing the atmosphere and flying out into space. Fly Out! Planet Gaia

Diver and the crew were cut down in their flight to Nemesis by the Seacons, who had been mesmerized into Galvatron's service. They crashed on an asteroid and battled God Neptune and his component parts. Diver and Scuba worked to repair their ship while the other Maximals battled the Seacons. After God Neptune was defeated and the Seacons restored to normal, they offered the Maximals their energon to recharge their ship, and Moon and Artemis led the Maximals through a slingshot maneuver around the moon that got them back on track to Nemesis. Revenge of the Space Pirates

As the Maximals arrived on Nemesis, they abandoned ship so the Predacons shot down an empty vessel. Diver and the others gathered by an exhaust port, which NAVI calculated could lead to Nemesis's core. While Lio Convoy and Scuba went spelunking to shut down Nemesis at the core, Diver and his fellow Maximals remained behind to defend their rear flank. Breaking into Nemesis After Galvatron pulled the full force of Gaia's Angolmois Energy into Nemesis, he emerged from the core claiming Lio Convoy was dead. Despite this disheartening news, Diver and the Maximals continued to fight on in the name of their commander. Legend! The Green Warrior

In the end, Lio Convoy was not dead, but had combined with Lio Junior into a powerful Green Warrior. Moreover, Scuba and the Tako Tank had reached the core and arranged for Nemesis's destruction. As Galvatron and the Green Warrior battled, the Cyborg Beasts continued to hassle the Maximals. When Nemesis finally erupted, Lio Convoy used all the strength of his Energon Matrix to preserve the lives of Diver and his Maximal brethren. Although Gaia was saved, the Maximals were left floating in the void, caught in a wormhole created by Nemesis's destruction. They took heart, however, in the appearance of a great light Lio Convoy said would lead them to their next adventure. Farewell! Lio Convoy

The Maximal Brainwashing Operation
At one time, Tasmania Kid and Diver were out on a scouting mission (much to Diver's chagrin, as he wanted to relax) when Apache, popping out of the bushes, quietly called them over. The confused pair followed, only to find Apache to be an illusion, baiting them into a net laid out by BB. BB then took the two Maximals back to Starscream, who told them he would release them after they ran an "errand" for him.

When the duo didn't report back, the Maximals left in search of the missing Diver and Tasmania Kid, eventually finding them collapsed at the edge of a valley. However, it was all part of Starscream's trap. Diver and Tasmania Kid, now brainwashed into thinking they were Predacons, sprang into action and attacked the Maximals. Galvatron soon entered the scene and stacked the odds tremendously against the Maximals.

As the fight raged on, Megastorm got to a vantage point and prepared to fire his cannon at both Lio Convoy and Galvatron, killing two birds with one stone. Scuba intervened by creating a geyser beneath him from an underground river, throwing Megastorm's aim off. The blast knocked Tasmania Kid and Diver back to their senses, though they were angry at the (rightfully) confused Apache, whom they blamed for ambushing them. The Maximal Brainwashing Operation
When the rainy season came about, most of the Maximals used the foul weather as an excuse to not go out on their regular patrols, infuriating sub-commander Apache. Diver was the exception, as he very much enjoyed the rain in his frog mode; so much so that he would break out into song. One of his solos attracted the attention of numerous female frogs, forcing Diver to transform and scare them off to avoid getting swarmed. Just as Diver had resolved to head back to headquarters, he caught sight of a Galvatron's ugly mug... or rather, a giant tank shaped like it! Rushing back to his teammates, he warned them of the incoming juggernaut. Apache and Bighorn lured the vehicle into a nearby river, where Diver and Scuba lay in wait. Once the tank had splashed down into the water, the aquatic Maximals planted bombs on its vulnerable underside, causing the tank to flood. Lio Convoy then took over the battle and defeated Megastorm, making him accidentally trip the tank's self-destruct sequence in the process. Demolish the Superdreadnought Tank!

: In robot mode, his front beast mode legs wind up on his back and can be flipped forward over his shoulders. In the cartoon, having his legs fold over his shoulders would allow him to fire his "Diver Soap Bubbles" from each of the cups on his toe-tips. The trigger on his rear can still be utilized in this mode, making his neck extend, much like it does in the cartoon when he gets a fright.

Notes
* In the original Japanese language version of Beast Wars II, Diver speaks Japanese with a Kansai region dialect, strongly associated in Japanese media with rambunctious, fun-loving (and dim-witted) characters due to the wealth of comedians from the region. English dubs usually render this as a Texan or Cockney accent.
* As a hilarious piece of toy accuracy, when attacked by Tripledacus upon first meeting, Tripledacus makes a zoom-in on Diver's frog mode chest and discovers his Maximal insignia right where the rubsign is on the toy.
* Diver has two known robot mode character models:
# The first (aka his pre-final model), is fairly accurate to the toy. It features his front frog legs drawn on his back, has three toes on his robot mode feet, and no opposable thumbs. This model appeared quite frequently in several TV Magazine issues and Beast Wars II guidebooks, such as the Beast Wars II Encyclopedia (which is where the image used for Diver at the top of this article is from).
# The second (aka his final model), removed the frog legs from his back and added an extra toe to his robot mode feet. This model was used in the cartoon and appeared less frequently in guidebooks and other media.

: The removal of the frog legs from his back was likely done for ease of animation, as refining extraneous kibble is not that uncommon when translating a toy design into a cartoon character. The addition of the extra digits to his feet and hands makes him a little less toy-accurate, but was presumably done to give him the humanoid 5-digits his peers have.
:* Amusingly, his beast mode models never received any changes between the robot modes' pre-final and final stages, though the fourth digit from the toy's front frog legs was removed entirely when translating the design into an animation model, leaving him with four toes on his hindlegs and only three toes on his forelegs.
Notes
*Chop Shop, like all of the Deluxe Insecticons, was designed by Artmic and originally produced by Takatoku Toys for inclusion in their Armored Insect Corps Beetras toyline (機甲虫隊ビートラス). Decoed in black and grey, the mold first saw release as the protagonist mecha Beet-Gugal (ビート・グガル Bīto Gugaru)—based on the Japanese word for "stag beetle", kawagatamushi (クワガタムシ). Takatoku Toys went out of business a short while later in 1984, and their assets were purchased by fellow Japanese toymaker Bandai. At that time, Bandai was not very active in the U.S. market, making Bandai a competitor of Takara, but not of Hasbro. Due to this, the company had no objection to licensing various Takatoku molds to Hasbro in 1985 for sale primarily in the American market as part of their version of the The Transformers toyline. Nowadays, Bandai has a worthwhile interest in every market and since it only once licensed the molds, there is little likelihood that Chop Shop and company will ever be reissued.
*Since Hasbro and Takara shared the original The Transformers cartoon as promotional material for their respective versions of the toyline, Chop Shop and the other Deluxe Insecticons were not included in its cast to avoid giving Japanese market-competitor Bandai free publicity. The group was also omitted from the U.S. Marvel comic and barely appeared in the UK Marvel comics, making them the least "successful" of the Takatoku molds.
*Barrage, Chop Shop, and Venom (though not Ransack) all appeared in their Beetras color schemes on Hasbro's 1985 packaging mural, along with several other toys in early or unused color schemes.
*Ironically, Chop Shop was robbed of having a Transformers Universe bio! One was written though and finally revealed to the fans on the Disciples of Boltax blog in 2010.
The other Decepticons and his fellow Insecticons are well aware of Chop Shop's skill as a master thief, but they have no idea just how deep the compulsion goes. Chop Shop is a closet Kleptomania, compelled to steal—not just from the Autobots, but also from his allies and even from himself! The more difficult it is to steal something, the more Chop Shop feels compelled to rise to the challenge. No piece of equipment or valuable item in Decepticon headquarters is safe when he's around. So far, he's been quick-witted enough to cover his own tracks, but how long his luck holds out, and what his comrades will do when they realize just who's been robbing them blind, is anyone's guess.
7.4 million years ago, Chop Shop joined Ratbat's Ultracons after the disappearance of Megatron splintered the Decepticons. In the ensuing conflict, the Trigger was destroyed and the Transformers were sent falling to the Earth, becoming lost. The Battle of the Star Gate

During the early days of the war, Chop Shop served under Bludgeon as part of a team sent to find the lost Titan Metroplex. On the two-hundred-and-thirty-eighth day of this grueling campaign, Chop Shop and his colleagues destroyed a Nibarian outpost because they believed it was between them and their quarry. A hunch from Thundercracker led them further to a planet inhabited by Urtuskians. As Chop Shop and the other Decepticons started obliterating the primitive outpost, believing Metroplex was underneath (and also because it was fun), their team was caught up to by a team of Autobots who had been trailing them. Chop Shop and the other the Decepticons retreated without accomplishing their goal. The Hunting Party (IDW)

After the war was over, Chop Shop joined Lockdown's team of Titan Hunters. They boarded the Lost Light in search of the sloughed-off portion of Metroplex its crew had salvaged, where Venom and Chop Shop found that the only operational crewman was the newly christened Trailcutter. Pursuing him into the medibay, Chop Shop was caught off guard and, ironically, knocked unconscious with the resuscitation pads. Trailcutter then dumped his body at Lockdown's feet in shuttle bay 3 before talking the Decepticons into retreating. The Reluctant Specialist

Chop Shop was still working under Lockdown on the supposedly lost Luna 1, where they discovered a small landing party from the Lost Light attempting to extract a Point One Percenter spark from a giant hot spot. Accusing the interlopers of "trespassing", Lockdown's crew opened fire. Remain in Light 1 of 5: The Fecund Moon They chased the "trespassers" into a huge graveyard of deactivated Titans where the Decepticons were easily able to round them all up, then delivered them into the custody of their "crazy boss" Chief Justice Tyrest. Remain in Light 2 of 5: House of Ambus
In the early days of the war on Cybertron, Chop Shop was part of a Decepticon assault alongside Barrage, Ransack, Blitzwing, Octane, Runabout, Runamuck, Venom, and the Autobot double agent Counterpunch. Secrets & Lies issue 1 Later, he was seen as part of a force attacking a fort in the Border Regions, on the orders of Straxus. Secrets & Lies issue 2

7.4 million years ago, Chop Shop joined Ratbat's Ultracons after the disappearance of Megatron splintered the Decepticons. Along with Ratbat, Venom, and Ransack, Chop Shop ambushed and captured Springer in the Tagan Heights. He suggested that Ratbat kill Springer's Wreckers before killing him, to increase his suffering, but Ratbat opted for the more expedient option. The fuel auditor was prevented from carrying that out, however, when a battle between Devastator and Defensor raged out of control, Escalation allowing Springer to escape. Chop Shop and his allies in turn fled the scene, leaving Devastator behind. Devastation (issue)

Some time later, Chop Shop was involved in a battle against the now-unified Autobot forces, commanded by Ultra Magnus. When the Ultracons were reabsorbed into the Decepticons 6 million years ago, Chop Shop presumably went with them. The Age of Wrath

Later, after the launch of the Ark and the Nemesis, Chop Shop and a number of his fellow Insecticons were reduced to a vampiric existence, capturing Micromasters in the Wastelands and drinking their energon. Attacking a group of arguing Micros, Destined for Nothing he and his comrades devoured Falcon, but were prevented from capturing the Hot Rod Patrol and the Race Track Patrol by the arrivals of Groundshaker and Shockwave, respectively — although the latter did toss them Flanker to snack on. The Gray Race

As ordered by Shockwave, Chop Shop and his mates attacked Little Iacon, searching for the Hot Rod Patrol—Chop Shop accidentally snagged Road Hugger, but was ordered by Venom to throw him back. They eventually landed in the city and recruited the Race Track Patrol to aid them in their search.

Magmatron's plan was to use the abandoned stasis pods on prehistoric Earth to build an army and take over Cybertron. :*Accessories: Tail-cannon

: Part of the first wave of Beast Wars Basics, Iguanus is a retool of the basic crocodile Megatron mold, transforming from a Gila monster with a frill (?!) to robot mode with a one-step spring-loaded autotransformation. His removable beast mode tail hides a non-firing blaster cannon that can be used as a hand weapon; it can in theory be left attached in robot mode, but the frill gets in the way of him using it in this manner as an overhead cannon as Megatron can.

: The initial releases of Iguanus and the other wave-1 Basics and Deluxes came on a "rocky bubble" card. This quickly changed to the "smooth bubble" style, with all toys re-released in this style of packaging. As such, the rocky packaging is rarer and goes for more on the secondary market.

:In Japan, Iguanus was initially promoted in early catalogs as "Igunar", but the toy ended up only being available as an import released with Takara-applied stickers to the packaging, first as the prize of a "speed lottery" in 1997 and later as part of a 1998 mail order catalog theater-goers could buy from. Both releases disregarded the "Igunar" name and went with a straight transliteration of "Iguanus" instead.

: One of the few non-show Beast Wars characters to get a second new mold, Iguanus transforms into a bio-mechanical frill-necked lizard. His beast mode head hides a spring-loaded missile launcher that also pops up his frill-plates when activated. The missile is held in his hands in robot mode like a club, for once Iguanus is transformed, his missile launcher is inaccessible. His spark crystal is located in his right pectoral in robot mode, concealed under a flip-up panel. His beast mode frill is the only chromed feature of the toy, which appears to be more resistant to flaking than most of the Transmetal 2 line.

: Bizarrely, some Iguanus figures have been misassembled, as they feature a Beast Machines Maximal spark crystal instead of the Beast Wars Predacons one. Just how this happened is uncertain.

: Like the other Transmetal 2 Deluxes which did not appear in the cartoon, Iguanus was not released in Asian markets. This toy was sold in Japan as an "import" with a Japanese sticker exclusive to Toys"R"Us. This mold was later used to make Universe Reptilion.
Iguanus's yellow spot deco is recreated for this reissue, meaning it's similar but not identical to the original.

Aaron Archer (Hasbro), Yuichiro Hira (TakaraTomy)

:In celebration of the 25th anniversary of Beast Wars, the original 1996 Basic Class Iguanus was reissued under the Vintage Beast Wars lineup, now reclassified as a Deluxe Class and priced as such. Iguanus's yellow spot deco is recreated for this reissue, meaning it's similar but not identical to the original. Iguanus is packaged on a card with a round bubble as opposed to the rocky style seen on earlier Vintage waves.

:Though scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2023, Iguanus was spotted in Singapore in late November 2022. Hasbro Pulse put Iguanus up for order on January 10, 2023, and they immediately began shipping him.
