:Crankcase is a Decepticon from the Transformers portion of the movie continuity family.

Crankcase hates everything and everyone. He hates Autobot and Decepticon alike, hates his job, and hates that he works with the Decepticons because he was feeling really mad at the Autobots the day he signed up. Sound familiar at all?

What Crankcase does not realize is that the feeling is pretty well mutual among his own allies. He may have more enemies among the Decepticons than he ever will among the Autobots, as his attitude does not lend itself to making fast friends. Everyone Decepticon Crankcase has ever served has been perplexed with him being too busy complaining about his orders to effectively follow them. And that's assuming he even feels like following them. When those orders do get carried out, the end result is usually poor quality. Needless to say, Crankcase's superiors wear their patience thinner by the astro-second as they try to find a job where he is actually useful for a change.

Much as is the case with Over-Run, Crankcase's assignment as Destron commander may be in lieu of having to locate non-drone Decepticons willing to work with him.

{{bigquote|Hey, I'm not built for that kind of work.

Many years in the past, Crankcase was a member of Cybertron's Defense Force, under the command of Protector Megatron. After the discovery of a mysterious relic and an alien attack, Defiance issue 1 Megatron changed significantly, altering the military's mission from one of protection of Cybertron to making war upon the hostile aliens and anybody who would stand in their way. Crankcase was present at Megatron's war rally in Trypticon, where the military leader demanded the control of all of Cybertron's forces in his vengeful attack on the aliens from the Eshems Nebula. Defiance issue 2

Crankcase was sent on a mission to capture science division leader (and thorn in Megatron's side) Optimus and eliminate his fellow scientists and the unwitting security team sent to arrest him. He and Barricade observed Brawl nailing the "traitors" with an explosive round, and Crankcase was eager to get into the fight. He was ordered back by the glory-hound Starscream, but Crankcase had the last laugh when the wily Optimus managed to bury the aerial forces under a mountain of rubble. After they were dug out, they all joined the rest of Megatron's new "Decepticon" faction. Defiance issue 3

Many years later, after Megatron had been killed on the distant world of Earth and the AllSpark destroyed, Crankcase helped deliver a massive generator to Starscream's replica AllSpark at Simfur as part of Payload's work detail. He made the mistake of complaining about this in front of Starscream, who promptly smashed his vocal processor and had him thrown in with the Autobot prisoners. The Reign of Starscream issue 4 Not long after, he was strapped to the cube, and his Spark was extinguished to bring the new AllSpark to life. However, the replica failed to work as planned. The Reign of Starscream issue 5

Titan movie comics
In a divergent timeline, the Decepticons succeeded at Mission City and conquered the United States. Crankcase's illustrious career in the Decepticons included:

* Standing around in Savannah.
* Getting weirded out by Starscream talking to people who weren't there, along with his mate Swindle.
* Optimus Prime in protoform form landing on him. Transformers Comic issue 22
* Being one guy in a big gathering-of-forces pose. Transformers Comic issue 23

We can't all be major characters.

Toy bios
As far as Crankcase was concerned, everything was pointless and stupid. Seeing no reason why anyone else should be enjoying things when he was so miserable, he grumpily ruined things for Autobots and Decepticons alike. Because he was not much of a warrior, Crankcase specialized in just being inconvenient given how his blaster arm caused metal to rust instantly. #Transformers (2007)

When the Power Core Combiner process came along, it transformed Crankcase into a classic schoolyard bully. He used his newfound power to take his own misery out on anyone around him. Luckily for everyone (except Crankcase), the high was short-lived and the burst of happiness he would feel in using his new might against the helpless quickly faded. In turn, this reverted Crankcase back into his old miserable self once more. #Power Core Combiners
*"Movie" Crankcase was originally designed for the 2008 Universe toyline as a new version of Generation 1 Crankcase.
* Crankcase's "hazmat" deco scheme was designed as an homage to his G1 counterpart's The Transformers Universe profile, which gave him an origin as a fuel-spill janitor.
* Due to the vague continuity of the Power Core Combiners line, the case for Movie Crankcase and Power Core Combiners Crankcase being the same guy is not airtight. In fact, it's not entirely out of the question that Power Core Combiners Crankcase is a new body for Generation 1 Crankcase, upon whom both Crankcases' bios are heavily based. SITENAME SHORT has gone with the simplest explanation.
* A robot in a design clearly based on Crankcase (in his Cybertron Red Alert body), albeit slightly miscolored, could be seen in a preview art page for issue 2 of New Avengers/Transformers. In the published issue, he was replaced by Thundercracker, whose presence made considerably more sense in-story.

:Studio Series Thrust is a retool of the third Starscream from the same line, transforming from a robot based on his appearance in Bumblebee into a Cybertronian tetrajet in 30 steps. He uses a slightly upscaled version of Studio Series Blitzwing's head and has new chest pieces with a conehead cowl surrounding his neck and head. This does heavily limit his head articulation, however.

:Thrust comes with a handheld cannon, two wing-mounted Null Rays evocative of his Generation 1 namesake, and a cardboard backdrop display depicting a war-torn Cybertron as it appears in the beginning of the film. The cannon has no robot mode storage but forms the underslung weaponry in vehicle mode. The Null Rays are meant to be moved to rectangular slots in vehicle mode, though they can be left in the 5mm ports.

:Thrust's instructions still show his arms tabbing together using non-existent tabs for vehicle mode. His instructions also still use Starscream's model (but with the updated head), missing the new conehead cowl parts and having the wingtips pointing up in robot mode instead of down.

:This toy can be repurposed as any of the generic green-and-grey conehead Seekers featured in Bumblebee. The mold was also used to make Thundercracker and Skywarp.
Notes
* Revenge of the Fallen Thrust was developed independently of the on-screen character, yet shares the same article for simplicity and because both of them are portrayed as Decepticon jets with conehead-like aesthetics, much like Generation 1 Thrust.
* Thrust's Revenge of the Fallen figures bear notable resemblances to his Armada incarnation. While seeming the lack of a proper mouth may be the result of standard movie universe design patterns, the fact that the cone shape of his head is formed from the cockpit of his jet form (well as the specific model of said jet form being identical to Armada Thrust) give credence to the possibility this was intentional.
* In a rare bit of non-G1 homaging, Bumblebee Thrust takes his green color scheme from his Armada iteration as well.
** Paired with his Revenge of the Fallen design, this makes Armada homages a constant throughout the character's multiple movie appearances.
* During the Cybertron scenes of Bumblebee, Thrust's onscreen design is used for numerous generic Seekers, with one being blasted from afar by Optimus Prime and another being bowled over by Bumblebee/B-127. Trying to distinguish which Seekers appeared in Bumblebee only continues to get harder with each watch. His Studio Series toy bio specifically states that the real Thrust is the green-and-grey coneheaded Seeker who joins Starscream in "blast[ing] the Autobot[s'] launchpad with missile fire to stop their escape from Cybertron".
* Some Bumblebee Thrusts use the integrated arm cannon while others use large rifles similar to ones used by the Autobots.
:Ramjet is a Decepticon from the Unicron Trilogy continuity family (via the 2003 Universe toyline).

Ramjet was once Unicron's most dangerous herald, able to use his inter-dimensional link to Unicron's essence to impose cruel reality-warping punishment on his victims. His Unicron-powered guidance systems allowed him to travel not only from dimension to dimension but in the chaotic cosmic fabric between them. But when Unicron's physical form imploded at the end of the Powerlinx Battles and collapsed into a grand Black Hole, Ramjet was abandoned between dimensions, lost in the timeless non-space that glues the multiverse together.

He was not alone in this nether dimension. Ancient evils which surpassed even Unicron's powers toyed with his spark, destroying and recreating his existence for fun, until finally they got tired of him and returned him to the universe. Torn between being and nonbeing, Ramjet's body has become a form of highly unstable antimatter that violently reacts with the matter around him, leaving him constantly surrounded with a glowing corona of destruction. While Ramjet is powerful enough to create wormholes by collapsing the fabric of spacetime or channel his own physical form into destructive antimatter blasts, just holding himself together at all requires tremendous force of will. As a result, although Ramjet's powers are so great that his mere existence can corrupt the reality around him, mentally he's not quite all there.

He commands the equally warped versions of Thunderclash and the Air Military Mini-Con Team.

Fun Publications comics
Ramjet was cast adrift between dimensions when Unicron's physical form was destroyed in the Powerlinx Battles. There, he was tortured for eternity by ancient evils of indescribable power until eventually they got bored and tossed him back into the Universe. Hasbro Transformers Collectors' Club issue 5 After the Transformers had abandoned Cybertron in order to flee the Unicron Singularity, Ramjet, his Mini-Con partners, and Nemesis Prime appeared through a portal and descended upon the planet, intent on its destruction. They first landed in Iacon, near Maccadam's Old Oil House, in search of potential pawns. Unfortunately, they only found Crush Groove and Jackhammer. The two were deemed useless and destroyed. Ramjet agreed with Nemesis Prime that the remaining Cybertronians were not likely to be of help, and so he suggested they pay a visit to Alpha Trion unaided.

Alpha Trion was found in his chamber (where he guarded Vector Sigma) beside Vector Prime and Sentinel Maximus, two Transformers who had been sent through dimensions to aid Alpha Trion in this moment of crisis. While Nemesis dealt with Sentinel, Ramjet clashed swords with Vector Prime. As Ramjet fended off Vector Prime's blows with one arm, the other fired a beam of uncreation at Alpha Trion and Vector Sigma, leaving them in a state of severe disrepair. Having accomplished enough, Ramjet, Nemesis, and the Mini-Cons fled. Balancing Act

Ramjet and Nemesis recruited some Scrapmetal to help locate Primus's essence, as they had instinctual knowledge of Cybertron's structures. Regardless, Nemesis had questions. Why were they going through all this trouble if Unicron was already dead? Ramjet explained that so long as there is evil, Unicron still technically exists. Before, Unicron was only capable of destroying one universe at a time, since he was bound to a physical form, but ironically now that Unicron was dead due to the Unicron Singularity, the Chaos Bringer never had a better chance of true, all-encompassing victory. Since the Unicron Singularity was bleeding through to other dimensions, all Ramjet and Nemesis Prime had to do was use Nemesis Prime's Dead Matrix to kill Primus, and then feed Cybertron itself through the Singularity. This would destroy Primus in every universe, and the Unicron Singularity would replicate itself everywhere, swallowing all creation in the multiverse. Unicron's goal would be achieved, despite (and because of) his death. Balancing Act, Part 2

As Dark Scorponok ravaged the planet, Ramjet told the story of his cruel affliction to an enthralled audience of Scrapmetal. When he finished, Ramjet's Mini-Con Thunderclash arrived with a delivery: Skyfall! Balancing Act, Part 3 The Coming Storm: Part 1 Though Skyfall was not exactly who Ramjet suspected he was, Ramjet nonetheless found him useful. Skyfall was desperate to learn more about his forgotten past, and Ramjet dangled the possibility of learning more about it before him. Skyfall agreed to help Ramjet achieve his objective, under the condition that Ramjet would then answer his questions. The location of Primus's essence had been revealed by the Scrapmetal's computer work, and so everyone departed.

Ramjet found Downshift guarding the Spark Core Access Tunnels deep below Iacon, and the small Autobot was easily dispatched. Nemesis Prime pinned him to the wall with one of his blades, where the two told him to await his uncreation. But Downshift was no longer Primus's only guardian; Vector Prime and Sentinel Maximus had become wise to their scheme and met the two in battle. Balancing Act, Part 4 Ramjet told Nemesis to go on without him and use the Dead Matrix while he handled their opponents. Vector Prime sent Sentinel after Nemesis, as Ramjet was too horrible and dangerous a foe for him, and Vector Prime and Ramjet once again clashed swords.

Their one-on-one battle took itself out of Cybertron's chambers, through the surface of the planet, and up into orbit. Ramjet offered Vector Prime another option: it was within Vector Prime's power to restore Unicron from the Singularity, dooming this Cybertron but saving all others. Vector Prime refused, claiming that they could restore balance to the multiverse without saving Unicron. But, at that moment, Vector Prime's point was moot. Below, within Primus's Spark Chamber, Nemesis Prime had exposed Primus's essence to the Dead Matrix... Balancing Act, Pt 5

Still, Vector Prime would not be deterred. He called upon his Cyber Key power and blasted Ramjet with Primus's power. Skyfall, however, who was watching from afar, feared for the life of Ramjet, who was the only key to his past. Skyfall stood between Ramjet and Vector Prime, begging for the life of the former. But it was too late. Though Ramjet was immortal, Vector Prime was able to contain him, and the whispering remains of Ramjet's unstable form slipped through the cracks of reality into the nothingness between. Revelations Part 1

Though he should have wound up in the void between universes, Ramjet found himself in another universe. Awakening, partially fused in stone at an atomic scale, Ramjet found that he could not sense Unicron, finding that his master had never existed, and could never exist, in this universe. Pooling his energies, Ramjet shattered the rock and rebuilt himself into a new form. Sensing the presence of a great evil, Ramjet set out to ally with it and destroy his new universe as a means of leaving it. Assembly (OMAM) He made his way to Earth, expressing his disgust for the human race as he approached one of their settlements. He didn't allow his revulsion distract him too much, however, as he sensed that the evil he sought to join forces with, and his freedom, was very nearby. Insight

Using a Decepticon signal, Ramjet lured the Mayhem Attack Squad to Earth, finding the source of evil to be the Matrix of Malice that Bludgeon held. After assuring that he had no aims on the Matrix and displaying his powers on Ruckus, Ramjet offered an alliance to destroy the universe. History

As Thunder Mayhem combined to destroy Earth, Divination his appearance brought out the Pretenders, Optimus Prime, and Megatron, Ramjet jumping at the chance to fight the latter only to be ambushed by Toxitron, the mutated Decepticon's toxic sludge devouring his armor. Once Impactor had pulled Toxitron away, Ramjet regenerated his armor. Pandora's Gift

No sooner had he healed himself was Ramjet attacked by Megatron, the Decepticon leader's Pretender shell managing to sustain Ramjet's dark powers. The two's duel came to a sudden halt when Wreckage, the combined form of the Wreckers, managed to fell Thunder Mayhem. His ally's death shattered Ramjet's resolve and caused him to fly away, futilely shouting for Unicron and his need to escape this universe. Finale (OMAM)
Plugging a Mini-Con onto Ramjet's rearmost Powerlinx plug releases two spring-activated over-shoulder spring-loaded missile launchers, as well as more electronic sound effects. His wing-sections/biceps hide flip-out weapons: the right arm hides a blade, while the left arm has a non-firing cannon. The toy was initially available only as a free give-away at 2005. However, they were also given free to 12-and-under walk-ins at 2006 and finally the remaining stock was offered for sale in the Club Store.
:Dirt Boss is a Mini-Con from the Armada portion of the Unicron Trilogy continuity family.

Filthy both physically and verbally, Dirt Boss intentionally skips maintenance checkups to keep his engine loud and misfiring, despite the risks this poses to him. Foul-mouthed and foul-smelling, he enjoys shocking and annoying those around him. Few can stand to be around him for any length of time; even his Race Mini-Con Team allies, who are likely the only ones who willingly spend any time with him at all, occasionally need to just get away.

And yet, Dirt Boss might actually be the smartest of the team, with extensive knowledge of high-level physics and entropy studies. Not that he ever really looks for a useful application for this information... But it certainly does give some insight into his attitude.

Dirt Boss combines with the rest of the Race Mini-Con Team to form the Skyboom shield.

Keep it down and dirty!
Fiction
Armada cartoon
Dirt Boss was one of the first two Mini-Con panels belonging to the Race Team that were captured by the Decepticons. Overmatch Conspiracy He finally came on-line when the Decepticons gathered all three panels, and joined with Downshift and Mirage to form the Skyboom Shield under Megatron's control. Reinforcement

In the next battle, Megatron assembled both the Air Defense Team and the Race Team into the two most powerful weapons in the universe. Armed with both the Star Saber and the Skyboom Shield, he toyed with Optimus Prime until his overconfidence caused him to lose his grip on the Shield. Prime's Mini-Con partner Sparkplug then "locked on" to the Skyboom Shield and brought it under Prime's control, thwarting Megatron's killing strike with the Saber and balancing the powers between the two sides. Decisive Battle

Because the Skyboom Shield was in such demand by the Autobots to protect them from the Star Saber (and later the Requiem Blaster), Dirt Boss and the Race Team appeared quite infrequently as individuals. After Starscream and Jetfire rescued Firebot from Mars, Dirt Boss was among the Mini-Cons who welcomed the new arrival to the Autobots. Mars (episode) Later, Dirt Boss and the Race Team went for a walk with the kids to catch some fresh air. Unfortunately, their little stroll happened just as Billy and Fred reported that Thrust had met with Starscream. Squidhead had asked for the Skyboom Shield Mini-Cons as collateral for letting Starscream back into the Decepticons, so their sudden disappearance from the base didn't look too good for the former Decepticon. The Autobots' distrust for Starscream in part led to his decision to take Thrust up on his offer, and so even after Hot Shot uncovered the kids and the Race Team and cleared his name, Starscream stole the Skyboom Shield for Megatron and returned to the Decepticons. Crack (episode)

Dirt Boss and the Race Team had little time to act as individuals after that, remaining powerlinxed as the Skyboom Shield while the Decepticons used the shield as one-third of the Hydra Cannon, before it was stolen by Thrust and used to provide power to the heart of Unicron. Mirage, Dirt Boss and Downshift reawakened as individuals with the help of High Wire and the Street Action Mini-Con Team, who had journeyed to Unicron's core with Optimus Prime, Galvatron and the Earth children to grant the super-weapon Mini-Cons their freedom. Origin Dirt Boss fled Unicron aboard the Autobot Jetfire just before the Chaos-Bringer was finally destroyed. Mortal Combat

Dreamwave Armada comic
Dirt Boss was painfully cut open and altered by the Decepticons so that they could draw out his power for their own use. Dreamwave Armada issue 1 He was among the Mini-Cons who escaped from them and ended up on Earth's moon under the command of Dualor. Dreamwave Armada issue 9 However, the Decepticons eventually found them and attacked their moonbase, forcing Dirt Boss and the others to abandon it. Dreamwave Armada issue 11 After escaping to Earth, he and the other Race Team members joined the Autobots, though they were tempted by Rook to leave when it seemed the Autobots wouldn't help save a lost Mini-Con escape pod. Fire & Ice They were among the reinforcements sent to Alaska after the Adventure Team got into trouble with Thrust and Cyclonus. Dirt Boss and his companions found that Thrust had already been defeated, but Cyclonus was still up and going, and their attempts to fight him were not too successful. Dreamwave Armada issue 13

Later, the Race Team joined the rest of the Earthbound Mini-Cons in traveling back to Cybertron, which was under attack by Unicron. They were presumably part of the Mini-Con Matrix ceremony at the Loop, which caused Unicron some major damage. The End (Armada)

Panini Armada comic
Alongside Mirage, Dirt Boss was captured by Thrust during the early days of the Mini-Con kidnappings. The two escaped and joined Dualor, who had devised a plan to kill Megatron. Panini Armada issue 9

Cybertron toy bios
Dirt Boss was sent to Velocitron under the "protection" of Red Alert, in order to split the Road Assault Team up to make it harder for Megatron to steal the entire Team and re-assemble the Skyboom shield. Red Alert (Armada)#TinyTin

Meanwhile, an alternate-universe version of Dirt Boss fell through a rip in space-time and landed on Earth. He was found by Landmine, who took the grimy Mini-Con under his wing. They probably get along great together. Landmine (Energon)#TinyTin

: This redeco of the team was given the distinction of being a corrupted version of the Skyboom Shield when in possession of the Decepticons, to coincide with the Air Assault Mini-Con Team/Dark Saber repaint, via the Dreamwave More than Meets the Eye profile books.

: In the United States, the Tiny Tins versions of the Race Mini-Con Team members were released in different packaging than their European counterparts, branded as part of the Universe line that didn't exist in Europe. Some errors occurred, resulting in European Armada-branded Tiny Tin carrying cases being sold on American Universe cardbacks.
:*Accessories: Carrying tin

: A new redeco of Dirt Boss with a Tiny Tins carrying mini-case was packed in special Walmart-exclusive sets. Dirt Boss was packaged with both Red Alert and Landmine.

: Hasbro copywriter Forest Lee confirmed that the Cybertron Tiny Tins-exclusives were originally planned with two different Race Mini-Con Team decos in mind, hence the backstory involving one version of the team being from an alternate universe and the tins' decos showing the Mini-Cons in silhouette rather than the normal full-color images. He could not confirm what the then-chosen decos were, however, but it seems likely they would have been rebranded re-releases of the two schemes from Armada, given the use of "Road Assault Mini-Con Team".
Leaving Cybertron with the rest of her religion, she adheres to Heretech's doctrine and does not question why parts of the ship are locked off. She only wishes Gauge would get her head out of the stars and devote herself to serving Heretech, and through him, Primus. Before she left, she seemed to be some kind of funeral director amongst her fellow Reversionists.
2019 IDW Continuity
At the reluctant behest of Orion Pax, Accelerator presided over Brainstorm's funeral and sent his lifeless body into the plasma pyre to become one with Cybertron once more—a political move designed to appease Cybertron's Reversionist party over what Brainstorm would have wanted. The World In Your Eyes Part Four

As the political situation on Cybertron deteriorated, Heretech announced his plans to take his Reversionists and leave the planet entirely. When the Tether collapsed, Accelerator and many other Reversionists joined their plenary and fled the planet aboard the starship Exodus. Arcee/Greenlight: Run

Shortly after take-off, the Reversionists discovered Arcee, Greenlight and Gauge aboard their ship. While the former two were imprisoned, the latter was young enough to be reprogrammed, Accelerator wiping her memory via a cortical psychic patch and making her believe that she'd always been devout. Gauging the Truth, Part Two: A Truth for a Truth

Accelerator then took up mentorship of Gauge, who seemed to get "lost in the stars" more often than she would like. When Gauge was meditating, Accelerator tracked her down and told her she was late for devotion, again. After bringing her charge to the devotional, she ensured that Gauge no longer had her head in the stars that cycle. Worried that her charge was slow to understand Reverionist Teachings, she offered advice before going to her own duties. Later, she was cleaning the floors with her charge before Gauge tried to investigate Heretech's throne. After Gauge was rebuked, Accelerator joined her charge in cleaning the windows of the ship, before losing track of her once more. Gauging the Truth: Part One

After another bout of floor cleaning, Accelerator, though impressed by Gauge's desire to atone, denied her charge's desire to tidy Heretech's quarters. When Gauge later took the initiative, Accelerator called security just before the ship returned to Cybertron. Gauging the Truth, Part Two: A Truth for a Truth

Dragging her charge back to the main auditorium, when Gauge was unveiled as the Reversionists' herald, Accelerator was part of Gauge's escort only for her charge to reveal she'd regained her memories and broadcasted a message denouncing the Reversionists' extremist philosophy. In a rage, Heretech attacked Gauge but she managed to defeat him, exposing him as mortal as any other Cybertronian. In the aftermath, Accelerator became the new Plenary, planning to lead the Reversionists back into space once the engines were repaired. Gauging the Truth, Part Three: Moment of Truth
Paul Dobson (English)

When Sideways arrived on Earth, Mirror was riding him wearing a disguise to make him look like a human clad in biker gear. When Sideways transformed, the rider retracted the disguise and split in half. His top half became Sideways's head. His bottom half vanished. Gale From then on, Mirror usually transformed from Sideways's head to ride him in motorcycle mode, though he once vanished from the scene to allow Hot Shot to ride Sideways in battle. Later, as Sideways was speaking privately with Megatron without either Mini-Con head present, he spoke in two different voices, though it is unclear if one of the voices was Mirror's. Soon after, Sideways revealed his allegiance to the Decepticons by switching heads. Credulous

In another battle, Hot Shot caused Sideways to crash, sending Mirror tumbling. Hot Shot taunted the rider for not having a seat belt. Conspiracy

After Megatron had been tossed down a crevasse by Optimus, Sideways and his driver helped haul him out. Megatron had been gravely injured by his fall though, forcing the Decepticons to retreat nonetheless. Trust (Armada)

When the last member of the Skyboom Shield trio, Downshift, became active on his own, Sideways and his rider were forced to give chase to the speedy little ‘bot. Though they were blown out of the race by Smokescreen, the Decepticons did manage to snag the Mini-Con. Reinforcement When Megatron challenged to a decisive clash, Sideways worried that the Decepticons would end the Cybertronians' war prematurely while both the Skyboom Shield and the Star Saber were in his hands. Sideways and his rider rushed Red Alert in the middle of the battle in order to feign defeat, so that they could sneak away, and Sideways could sabotage his own team's victory. Decisive Battle

Sideways next planned to shake up the Decepticons' power structure. After planting the seeds of doubt on Megatron's competency within Demolishor's head, he and his rider sped off to allow them to take root on their own. They then came to Starscream to similarly goad him into challenging Megatron for leadership of the Decepticons. The plot was ultimately unsuccessful, though it did strengthen morale in the Decepticons' ranks. Rebellion (Armada)

Shortly thereafter, Sideways tried to hack the Autobot base computer, only to encounter Rad, Alexis, and Carlos attempting to destroy the equipment to stop him. He transported them to a digital universe, where a digital manifestation of Sideways, complete with rider, greeted them. Sideways taunted the children by first telling them that the Autobots only ever humored them in letting them "help," and then by declaring that they would forever be trapped in cyber-space. The children did escape though, leaving Sideways to beg forgiveness from his true master... Unicron! Chase (episode)

Henceforth, Sideways settled with helping the other Decepticons on the battlefield in a more conventional manner, despite this only leading to more losses. When Thrust joined Megatron's unit, Sideways showed concern over this new addition... and with good reason; Thrust was the first to notice Sideways and his rider sneak off to converse with his unseen master. Tactician But Sideways had yet to notice that Thrust suspected he was up to no good, and participated in another of the tactician's ambushes on the Autobots. As soon as Optimus and Jetfire displayed their ability to combine, Sideways and his rider scampered away from the fight. Linkup

On the Moon, Sideways initiated a plan intended to turn the Decepticons against each other, then snuck off by himself into an underground cave. Mirror separated from his robot mode, and the two began to make a report to an unseen Unicron. They were interrupted, and Mirror quickly transformed back into Sideways's head. Sideways fled to the surface, where he was confronted by Thrust. They fought, but when Sideways started to lose, he turned into a cloud of static. This angered Megatron, who proceeded to chop up the cloud of static with the Star Saber. The cloud reformed itself into an image of Mirror's head, taunted Megatron, and floated up into the sky. Detection

Later, the ghostly head of Mirror briefly reappeared on the Moon. He began a conversation with Thrust while fully manifesting into Sideways. Mars (episode)

Later still, inside Unicron, the Mini-Cons broke the spell Unicron had over them. This enraged Sideways, and he transformed and attacked the Mini-Cons. Optimus Prime blasted Sideways and Mirror with the Requiem Blaster. The heavily damaged Mirror vowed revenge before the life blinked out of his eyes. Origin
Rook forms the upper half, while Crosswise forms the lower half. In this mode, he can ride Sideways's motorcycle mode, secured by the tab on his hip, and even (loosely) grip the handlebars.

: The initial run of Hasbro's Sideways toys gave both Mini-Cons red paint accents. A running change was made very early in the run to give Crosswise purple accents; Sideways was also altered to swap around which faction symbol each Mini-Con revealed in his chest-window when attached to him as a head, with now-purple Crosswise now revealing a Decepticon symbol, as depicted in the Armada cartoon.

: All releases of the Takara Legends of the Microns "Double Face" use the animation-matching Crosswise/purple/Decepticon-head setup.

: There is a persistent mis-assembly across all releases: according to the instructions (and animation model), Crosswise's thighs are on backwards, putting the molded tech detailing that is supposed to be on the front of the combined robot's legs on the back, leaving the detail-less backs of his legs up front. Luckily, it's easy enough to pop off the ball joints and swap them around so the detailing shows up on Mirror's front; Crosswise's lower legs are basically identical so swapping them changes nothing.
Notes
*"Mirror" is the combined form's Japanese name, fitting in with his components' Japanese names—Shadow and Bright. He has no official English-language name; the closest he has being the descriptor "Rider" from the toy's instructions.
*The cartoon version tends to present Mirror as a Triple Changer of sorts, transforming from the Crosswise head to the Mirror robot mode, and from there to the Rook head. In his first appearance only, he is seen separating to form Sideways's head—don't blink, you'll miss it!—but the extra Mini-Con that should have been left over is nowhere to be found. Neither Rook's nor Crosswise's individual robot mode is ever shown.
*One scene in "Credulous" briefly shows Sideways not wearing either Mini-Con as a helmet. He speaks in two distinct voices—one is his normal voice and one appears low-intelligence. Immediately after, Crosswise appears from off-screen and becomes his helmet. Any significance this may have between Sideways and his Mini-Cons is unclear. The line was not present in the Japanese version of the episode. In another scene, Sideways in vehicle mode speaks normally even though his rider is absent.
*While not entirely certain, it is implied in the cartoon (more so in the Japanese version) that Mirror is really Sideways, and the actual motorcycle's identity is unknown. This is evident by how Mirror is shown to deliver his lines, although it isn't easy to say for sure since he doesn't have a moving mouth. In Sideways's death scene, however, it is pretty clear that he is speaking in Mirror's body.
*Mirror's combined form (or at least his toy) bears a striking resemblance to the original Kamen Rider (the colors replicating the boots and helmet and the waist piece resembling the transformation belt), which is likely an intentional homage given Sideways' alternate mode is a motorcycle, which was a central aspect early on in the franchise.
