Velocitron was one of seven planets orbiting a dying yellow star an incredible distance away from Cybertron (to fly between the two without aid of a [[space bridge]] would take longer than the sum of Cybertronian history). The Velocitron system is about halfway out from the galactic core, in an area of space defined by a triad of star clusters. The star Velocitron circled was, on a planetary scale, near its end. The radiation emitted by the star created massive solar storms, severely disrupting communications on the planet.

During Cybertron's [[Golden Age]], Velocitron was colonized by Transformers {{storylink|Transformers: Exodus|Exodus}} aboard the starship ''[[Ogygia (Prime)|Ogygia]]'' and given its own miniature Well of All Sparks with a "torch". It was intended as a temporary project for racing enthusiasts, since the planet's scarce resources made long-term habitation impractical. When the [[Cosmic Rust (disease)|Cosmic Rust]] plague resulted in the deactivation of every space bridge, the Velocitronians were stranded. By the time [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]] and his crew of Autobots aboard the [[Ark (WFC)|Ark]] re-established contact with Velocitron, the Velocitronians had colonized the entire surface with a series of planet-spanning superhighways, with major cities built around nodal interchanges. While there were foundries, mines, factories and more, these were subordinated to the primacy of speed. The majority of the planet was re-engineered to provide a smooth ride. Few locations were spared this reconstruction and the Velocitronians showed little to no interest in those, limiting their maps entirely to the road systems. One area that remained natural is the southern magnetic pole, an area of jumbled sandy hills, windblown heights, and thin slot canyons where the ancient monolith that once served as a beacon for the local space bridge still stood, distorting space-time. The smooth, flat engineered surface of the planet, plains and desert allowed great windstorms to roar across the world, with little to ease or break their fury.

Velocitron's capital was the city of [[Delta]], located at its equator. It also housed the racetrack dedicated to the [[Speedia]], the great celebration-race which decided the most prominent citizens, and, on some occasions, even the political leaders of the planet. Velocitron's Transformers had a distinctive visual style to their construction, sporting exceptionally long limbs, elongated torsos, and streamlined bodies with aerodynamic armor. Optimus Prime noted that some had evolved into entirely new kinds of Transformer. Although built for speed, none of them could fly or transform into flying vehicles. Optimus Prime noted that the vast amount of resources spent on upgrading racers and racetracks may have contributed to Velocitron's resource shortage.

In order to rule the planet, Velocitron's leader must win the Speedia, Velocitron's foremost and most intense sporting event. Although rulers usually rule solo, the most recent race resulted in a tie, meaning that [[Override (Prime)|Override]] and [[Ransack (Prime)|Ransack]] were forced to grudgingly work together, although Ransack's desire to rule solo pushed the world to the brink of civil war. During the Autobot's time on the planet, Ransack finally made his play for power at the behest of [[Makeshift (Prime)|"777"]] who had informed Ransack and his cadre of malcontents about the imminent arrival of [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]]. Discussion carried over from the Trypticon page.

Here's the best I can determine what the final paragraph on that Japanese info site says, having run it through three different auto-translators.

There's also stuff about him splitting into three bug-robots (Vion/Baion, Lenjer/Renjaa and Igern/Igaan), and turning into a giant firebird in his last battle with the Powered Masters, which the guy describes as "being like the final battle with an RPG's last boss".

I'm afraid my computer can't display Japanese characters (a real bitch...). I actually haven't been able to find any story pages for Zone...ever. I've managed to accumulate some for Battlestars and Operation Combination, but can't find Zone for the life of me. All I know about the events of the story pages I learned from Rob's Transformer page/Electric Escape, but we all know how reliable that source could be. The original help structure was written almost entirely by me and is contained in just a handful of pages in the "Help" namespace, linked together by [[Help:Contents]] which is linked to in the sidebar of every page on the wiki. Since then some older "Transformers Wiki" namespace pages were rediscovered and worked on, and others have been built. But there is no unifying structure for the new stuff, and a lot of it is redundant with the Help pages. I will try to recommit myself to sorting it out. Does anybody have an opinion on which namespace we should use? I think all the policy/help stuff should be in the same namespace. I personally prefer "Help" because it's short, but I'm not deeply attached to it. Considering the [[Transformers Wiki:Community Portal|Community portal]] is stuck in "Transformers Wiki" namespace, perhaps that would be better. Unless we can move it. I'm starting to question the wisdom of incorporating both UK and US continuity bits in just the one "Marvel comics continuity" section. There are tons of stuff here that, for me (grew up on just the US stuff), simply never happened. I can't speak to whether these are verifiable or not. But in one case, the mention of Galvatron's "dream-inducing bug," just BEFORE the mention of Sunstreaker's presence during the Blaster/Grimlock fight on the moon, strikes me as out of place. Shouldn't that come AFTER this event?

A simultaneous celebration of the [[Transformers brand]]'s 30th anniversary and the second anniversary of IDW's most recent relaunch of their Transformers comic books, the storyline takes place in alternating issues of ''[[The Transformers: More than Meets the Eye|More than Meets the Eye]]'' and ''[[The Transformers: Robots in Disguise|Robots in Disguise]]'', with special one-shots released for the first and final chapters. The storyline of "Dark Cybertron" was built to almost from the inception of the ''More than Meets the Eye'' and ''Robots in Disguise'' comics—specifically, in "Syndromica", the side-plot occurring in occasional issues of ''Robots in Disguise'' which focused on [[Optimus Prime (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Orion Pax]] as he pursued [[Jhiaxus (G2)|Jhiaxus]] across the galaxy. In these issues, unexplored and unfinished plot threads from [[Simon Furman]]'s time as chief architect of the IDW universe six years prior came to the fore, as the extent of [[Shockwave (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Shockwave]]'s [[Regenesis]] program was explored and characters that had fallen by the wayside like [[Bludgeon (G1)|Bludgeon]] and [[Monstructor (G1)|Monstructor]] returned.

Build-up increased at the end of 2012 with the return of the ''[[The Transformers: Spotlight|Spotlight]]'' series of one-shots, which soon revealed themselves to be pack-ins for upcoming ''Generations'' toys. That these issues were preludes to "Dark Cybertron" was not immediately apparent (aside from the fact that they were eventually collected in a trade paperback named ''Dark Prelude''), with all that seemed to link them being a common theme of the [[Metrotitan (body-type)|Metrotitans]] and their [[space bridge]] capabilities (serving to [[To sell toys|promote]] the new [[Metroplex (G1)#Generations|''Generations'' Metroplex]] toy). Once the crossover was underway, however, it became apparent that in addition to the Titans, the ''Spotlights'' had been used as a means of stealth-introducing to toy-buying readers unfamiliar with the IDW universe several characters and concepts that would play important roles in ''Dark Cybertron'', such as Nightbeat, Megatron's internal space bridge, and perhaps most significantly, the introduction of Metroplex's severed thumb.

Following the conclusion of ''Robots in Disguise''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s first long-form story arc with its [[Heavy Is the Head|sixteenth issue]], active promotion for the story's imminent beginning commenced, with all six of the subsequent issues of the title bearing a "Dark Cybertron Prelude" cover box, three of which were used as pack-ins for the next wave of ''Generations'' figures. In addition to introducing this new batch of toy characters into the storyline, these issues returned to the Prime side-plot and expanded on Shockwave's involvement in it, and moved other characters into position for the event. Further still, like the ''Spotlights'' before them, the issues used as pack-ins also served to provide for buyers a pocket summary of all the relevant IDW history needed to fully appreciate ''Dark Cybertron''—Shockwave's Regenesis program, the general history of Nova Prime and Jhiaxus's era, a basic recap of ''Robots in Disguise''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s story up to that point, the Dead Universe, and more. At the same time as this was happening, ''More than Meets the Eye'' brought its own first "season" to a close, then followed up with a single "Dark Cybertron Prelude" issue of its own (also a pack-in, introducing new elements that would be key to the event's story) before both series dived into the crossover.

==Overview==

To bring together the final strands of a long-germinating plan that has been his life's work, [[Shockwave (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Shockwave]] orchestrates a series of events that cause havoc for the [[Autobot]]s, [[Decepticon]]s and [[NAIL]]s on three separate fronts. At his behest, [[Jhiaxus (G2)|Jhiaxus]] manipulates [[Optimus Prime (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Orion Pax]]—the once and former Optimus Prime—into awakening a slumbering [[Metrotitan (body-type)|Metrotitan]] on the planet [[Gorlam Prime]]. Bringing the Titan to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], Shockwave combines his [[Regenesis]] ores of [[Ore-14|Regeneration]] and [[Ore-2|Death]] to transform the giant into a zombie "[[Necrotitan]]", through which he makes contact with [[Nova Prime]] and [[Galvatron (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Galvatron]] in the [[Dead Universe]]. Requiring a [[space bridge]] to free the two ancient Cybertronians from their undead realm, Shockwave has the titan unleash a "death plague" upon [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]]; in the chaos that follows, the reanimated [[Metalhawk (Masterforce)|Metalhawk]] is used to retrieve the captive [[Megatron (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Megatron]] so that Shockwave can employ the space bridge within his body. Simultaneously, the awakening of the Titan causes Gorlam Prime to collapse into a portal to the Dead Universe, and Pax and his team are only saved from being sucked inside by the timely arrival of the ''[[Lost Light]]''. Conferring with Iacon leader [[Starscream (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Starscream]] and learning of events on Cybertron, Pax leads a team through the portal into the Dead Universe to try and stop Shockwave's plot from the other side. They encounter and are tricked into a trap by Nova Prime's mind-controlled thrall [[Nightbeat (G1)|Nightbeat]], but are able to free him, along with Nova's other captive, [[Kup (G1)|Kup]]; Pax destroys Nova, retaking the name of Optimus Prime in the process.

Meanwhile, the ''Lost Light'', charged with tracking down Jhiaxus, is pulled off-course by a summons from the badly-wounded [[Metroplex (G1)|Metroplex]], via a severed portion of his thumb the ship had previously encountered. Finding the ancient Autobot and his companions [[Windblade (G1)|Windblade]], [[Chromia (G1)|Chromia]] and [[Nautica]] on the ocean planet [[Hydrophena]], the crew defends him and themselves against an army of Shockwave's [[Ammonite]] minions and use their ship's engines to give him enough of a power boost to teleport them all back home to Cybertron. They return as the Necrotitan is in the middle of razing Iacon at Shockwave's command; Megatron, having fallen in with Bumblebee, uses his space bridge to teleport Metroplex's thumb—revealed to contain another of Shockwave's ores—from the ''Lost Light'' back into its owner's hand, giving him the energy to defeat the Necrotitan and heal the plague.

Unfortunately, all has transpired according to Shockwave's plans: the Ammonites, ''Lost Light'' and Necrotitan were pupeteered to ensure that Metroplex would return to Cybertron and bring the last of the ores with him, while Optimus Prime was deliberately lured into the Dead Universe so that he could destroy Nova Prime and remove his control over its necrotic energies. Using the combined powers of all his ores, fueled by the energy of the Dead Universe—channeled by Jhiaxus's chronal drive, through an unwitting Galvatron—Shockwave intends to bend space and time to his will, collapsing all of reality into a singularity that will be used to feed Cybertron for eternity. As the majority of the Autobots and Decepticons battle the colossal Ammonite army Shockwave summons to the planet, a small team ventures into Crystal City to confront the villains, where they are soon rejoined by Optimus Prime's team, who emerge through a portal to the Dead Universe within the unknowingly-undead [[Brainstorm]]. Metalhawk sacrifices himself to unbalance the ore equation, destroying the Ammonites, while Bumblebee is killed by Shockwave; inspired by the words and the sacrifice of his new friend, Megatron dons the Autobot symbol, an action that throws Shockwave into confusion. The scientist's loss of focus causes him to lose control of the chronal drive, setting his mind adrift in time and resulting in the re-emergence of his pre-[[Shadowplay]] self. Horrified at what he has become, Shockwave allows Optimus and Megatron to kill him, destroying the drive and bringing an end to his plan.

The event led into a jumping-on point event for the Transformers books titled "[[Dawn of the Autobots]]", beginning in [[Earthfall Part 1: Hello Cruel World|''Robots in Disguise'' #28]], [[World, Shut Your Mouth Part 1: Towards Peace|''More than Meets the Eye'' #28]], and the [[A 'Bot and Her City|first issue]] of the new ''[[The Transformers: Windblade|Windblade]]'' mini-series, and taking place six months after the end of "Dark Cybertron".

==Consequences==

Several plot lines were resolved as a result of the crossover, and many characters were repositioned for the IDW universe going forward:

*A number of major and supporting characters were killed, including [[Bumblebee (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Bumblebee]], [[Shockwave (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Shockwave]], [[Hardhead (G1)|Hardhead]], [[Jhiaxus (G2)|Jhiaxus]], and [[Nova Prime]].
*[[Galvatron (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Galvatron]], [[Kup (G1)|Kup]], and [[Nightbeat (G1)|Nightbeat]] were re-introduced into the IDW universe after several years' absence.
*Female Transformers other than Arcee, including the "fan-designed" [[Windblade (G1)|Windblade]], were introduced.
*[[Optimus Prime (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Orion Pax]] reassumed the mantle of Prime.
*[[Megatron (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Megatron]] made the major decision to join the Autobots, and Galvatron took command of the now-leaderless Decepticons.
*The Autobots of the ''[[Lost Light]]'' and Cybertron reconnected for the first time since the current series began.
*The ongoing plots involving the [[Dead Universe]] and the [[Regenesis]] ores, introduced in the first few months of IDW's ''Transformers'' line in 2005-06, seemingly were permanently resolved.
*The universe still hates [[Waspinator (BW)|Waspinator]].

==Creative team==

"Dark Cybertron" is co-written by ''Robots in Disguise'' and ''More than Meets the Eye'' authors [[John Barber]] and [[James Roberts]]. The nature of the issues as toy pack-ins necessitated that work begin on them at the same time as other regular issues of the two ongoings were being produced; as such, with regular artists [[Andrew Griffith]] and [[Alex Milne]] occupied on their normal issues, artistic duties for the event were primarily divided up between [[Atilio Rojo]], who drew the scenes set on Cybertron, [[James Raiz]], who covered scenes featuring the ''Lost Light'' crew, and [[Livio Ramondelli]], who illustrated the portion of the story set in the Dead Universe. [[Brendan Cahill]] contributed pages to the first and eleventh chapters, before illustrating the finale, while [[Nick Roche]] and newcomer [[Robert Gill]] chipped in towards the midpoint of the story. Later into the event, their schedules freed, Milne and Griffith returned to provide art for their respective books final few chapters.

Much was made of the involvement of preeminent mainstream comic book artist [[Phil Jimenez]], who collaborated with Roberts and Barber on the plot, provided layouts for Chapter 1 (finished by Griffith) and 12 (finished by Cahill) and drew several pieces of package art for the ''Generations'' toys that were used as "Retailer Incentive" or subscription variant covers for each of the twelve issues. Jiminez's covers initially corresponded to the toy with which each comic came packaged, but this wavered as the crossover went on; this, coupled with some evidently mis-matched pack-ins (Rattrap's and Skywarp's issues were almost certainly switched) suggests that Hasbro may have reshuffled the toyline's wave assortments after the storyline had been organized in advance.

[[Casey Coller]] provides a cover for each issue, usually in the regular cover slot, with additional subscription and RI covers provided by a variety of artists, including Griffith, Milne, Raiz, Cahill, Roche, Ramondelli, [[E. J. Su]] and [[Marcelo Matere]].

==Synopsis==
The Autobot [[Scoop (G1)|Scoops]] discovers an ancient Cybertronian prophecy pointing to the fact that a chosen one, whom Scoops believes to be [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]], will lead [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] to a new Golden Age, or possibly just ultimate doom. Starscream is not convinced.

Meanwhile, [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Orion Pax]] investigates a growing anomaly that will result in him and his comrades fighting an invasion from the parallel dimension known as the [[Dead Universe]]. On the planet they have found is a race of [[Mini-Con|Minicons]], including [[Heavytread (Generations)|Heavytread]], [[Windshear]] and [[Runway (Generations)|Runway]], who join the battles surrounding Scoops's prophecy.

And back on Cybertron, a [[Metrotitan (body-type)|Titan]] class Transformer appears, unleashing a powerful energy surge when Starscream, [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]] and [[Skywarp (G1)|Skywarp]] attempt to make contact with it. The surge destroys much of nearby [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]], and the Transformers discover the so-called [[Necrotitan]]'s energy signature matches readings from the Dead Universe.

The Autobots and Decepticons unleash their firepower on the Necrotitan, however when the smoke clears, the giant stands unscathed. As it gazes blankly on the surrounding devastation, the assembled Transformers realize they're no closer to any answers.

==Notes==
* The new event required updating the Transformers: Legends app. The app looks a little different.
* The event tied in with the [[IDW Publishing|IDW]] [[Dark Cybertron|event of the same name]], and as a bonus includes a free digital copy of "[[Dark Dawn: Dark Cybertron Chapter 1]]" as well as coinciding with a special offer on the Hasbro Toy Store to get 15% off the toys of characters featured in the game.
* This event introduced "Rarity 6" cards, with even higher stats.
* This is the first "team battle" campaign. Players are assigned to teams and cooperative defeat bosses, in order to score more points than their rival team. There are several other new wrinkles to the system.
**It works much like raid events, with the player being required to scan for bosses. They can also find [[Synthetic Energon]] when they scan, which adds to their team's bonus.
**Discovered bosses can be attacked by anyone on the same team as the finder, and defeating them adds to the team's total. At the end of the day, the team with the highest score wins, while the losing team is disbanded and reformed into new teams at the start of the next day. Members of teams which win get a "day win" count, making them eligible for more rewards at the end of the event. Players can also get rewards by being the MVP player for Synthetic Energon found, bosses located, or damage dealt.
**The game encourages team participation through use of a combo: when a player attacks a boss, the combo increases depending on the number of cubes they use, and an ever increasing multiplier is applied to the next attack. The combo only increases if different players attack the boss, so if the same player hits the boss twice, the combo is not increased on their second attack. Thus by several people tag-teaming a boss, fewer battle cubes are needed to defeat it. Additionally points are given out for attacks as well as the awards presented on defeating a boss.
* After the update, many users experienced a multitude of problems:
** Many iOS users experienced the recurrent "SD card is full" error. It really isn't full, so don't believe it and go deleting apps and pictures left and right. Mobage hasn't responded yet. All they've done so far is address an iOS problem where full-screening a card would crash the game, as well as giving everyone 250 CyberCash and up to 2,000 Ruby Medals to celebrate the new mode.
** Several users had their accounts reset to square one. As in, all of their progress and cards were lost. They had to start at the beginning with only a Rarity 3 card and a bunch of Rarity 1 cards, all wimpy compared to the beasts most users have now.
