'''Sweeps''' are the minions of [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] created by [[Unicron]]. Sweeps are visually indistinguishable from Scourge himself, although Sweeps do not necessarily have identical voices. While only a few are seen initially during Unicron's threat, there appears to be an inexhaustible supply of them later on. Two Sweeps were created by Unicron from the fallen Decepticons [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]] and [[Kickback (G1)|Kickback]], though seconds later there were suddenly more of them. They soon followed [[Galvatron (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Galvatron]] to [[Autobot City (G1)|Autobot City]], where one Sweep was destroyed by the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobots]]' [[fire-breath]]. After Galvatron's defeat at the hands of [[Hot Rod (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Rodimus Prime]], the Sweeps followed Scourge and [[Cyclonus (G1)|Cyclonus]] in their search for him. {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 1}} They eventually discovered him on the planet of [[Thrull]], only to be attacked by their crazed leader. Galvatron sent every single Sweep crashing into the planet's plasma pits, and the only one that fought back did no damage whatsoever to his leader. One of them got shot in the face by [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]], and promptly crashed into a storm on the surface of [[Jupiter]], screaming all the way down. Some Sweeps were part of the Decepticon armada that pursued an Autobot ship. They pursued the ship to an [[Autobot Mausoleum]], where they were fought off by the resurrected [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]. {{storylink|Dark Awakening (episode)|Dark Awakening}} Much later, three Sweeps hunted the Decepticon exile [[Octane]] alongside Scourge and Cyclonus, and cornered him in a [[Decepticon Crypt|crypt]] on Cybertron. When Scourge ordered the Sweeps to enter the crypt, all three cowards refused to be the first one in, until Cyclonus got fed up with it and offered to fight whoever was the last one in. More Sweeps were unfortunately enough to be with Galvatron during a battle over [[isidrite]], and were bashed around by their leader nearly as much as by the Autobots. {{storylink|Webworld}} Cyclonus was accompanied by a number of Sweeps as he investigated strange activity on Junk. A number of Sweeps followed Galvatron when he was tricked by the [[Quintesson]]s into releasing the dangerous [[Trans-Organic]]s sealed beneath Cybertron's surface. They didn't fare too well against the monsters, and even worse against the one known as the "[[Dweller (G1)|Dweller]]". As Galvatron fled from the beast, he threw the remaining Sweeps at its horde of [[energy vampire]]s in order to slow them down. The Sweeps were created by Unicron from these Decepticons' bodes to be a pack of hunters for the sole purpose of hunting Autobots and their human allies. On [[Gorlam Prime]], [[Galvatron (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Galvatron]] tossed the dying [[Scourge (G1)|Scourge]] into a [[solar pool]] and using the power of the [[Darkness (G1)|Heart of Darkness]], brought him back to full strength. The pool, which also contained the remains of denizens from the [[Dead Universe]], reformatted the bodies into clones of Scourge, who would be their master. Galvatron was incensed that the Sweeps were not created in ''his'' image. Scourge, his Sweeps, and [[Cyclonus (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Cyclonus]] then began to aid Galvatron on his new quest. {{storylink|Rebirth}} Their first mission was to scour Gorlam Prime for its inhabitants, who had disappeared without a trace. While Galvatron, Scourge, and Cyclonus went underground and found [[Jhiaxus (G2)|Jhiaxus]], the Sweeps were apparently all busy searching other parts of the planet. {{storylink|Heart of Darkness issue 1|Heart of Darkness #1}}

The Sweeps accompanied Galvatron as he traveled the galaxy raising the dead to form an army with which to oppose [[D-Void]]. In a universe where a [[zombie]] virus collectively called [[Undermind]] was attempting to spread to other universes, four portals opened that depicted scenes from four separate universes. In one of these portals, an infected Sweep or two was seen amongst zombified robots and humans. {{storylink|Infestation issue 1|Infestation #1}} The infection had occurred when Galvatron's ship encountered a space-time anomaly on its way to [[Earth]]. He ordered three Sweeps to retrieve a frozen chunk of wreckage that had been flung from the anomaly, but when it was brought on board, zombie humans and robots erupted from it, infecting the three Sweeps. After the zombie threat had been dealt with, Galvatron took his army with him to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], their first line of defense against D-Void. As the Sweeps were sent out to scout the planet, one of them discovered [[Hot Rod (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Rodimus]] and [[Wheelie (G1)|Wheelie]]. Noting that they were [[Slingshot (weapon)|armed]], he broke Galvatron's orders by engaging the Autobots, and was subsequently shot down by Wheelie. Galvatron used the Darkness to heal the Sweep's injuries and scolded him, telling him that all Transformers needed to work together. Under the command of Cyclonus, a large number of Sweeps invaded [[Kimia Facility]] in order to take control of it for Galvatron's use. Their numbers easily overwhelmed the Autobot defenders, and some of them were even seen ''eating'' their enemies. Meanwhile, [[Optimus Prime (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Optimus Prime]] arrived on Cybertron but refused to join Galvatron's army, and several Sweeps were sent to destroy him and his landing party. They were all killed, and [[Ironhide (G1)/2005 IDW continuity|Ironhide]] used one of the corpses to clobber Galvatron. {{storylink|Chaos Part One: Lamentations|Lamentations}} While a number of Sweeps defended Kimia from aerial Autobot forces, most stayed behind with Galvatron until Wheelie tried to snipe him only to kill a Sweep instead. An enraged Galvatron sent his entire Sweep army at him and [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper]], who in turn called for reinforcements, leading to a large-scale battle between the Sweeps and Optimus Prime's troops. Megatron, heavily upgraded and very unhappy, took on hundreds and hundreds of Sweeps on his own with little trouble. Together with Megatron's Decepticon forces, the entire Sweep army then came under the influence of D-Void, causing them to combine into an enormous monster. {{storylink|Chaos Part Three: Kings|Kings}} Megatron challenged this "[[Deceptigod]]", blowing huge chunks of Sweeps off its body with his blasts and ultimately defeating it. :The Sweep's main molding difference from Scourge is that the open left hand sculpted on Scourge is switched to Sweep's right hand, showing off gaudy pink fingernails. The range of movement in the Sweep's hips is limited by the sculpting of the sides of the pelvis, which can also scrape the paint that completely coats the thighs if not handled carefully.

:The Sweep also features a second vehicle mode configuration in his instructions to replicate the [[:File:TVM0287Sweeps.jpg|occasional moments]] in animation and artwork where the Sweeps' heads would be visible in vehicle mode. To achieve this, the whole vehicle mode shell needs to be opened; the armature that the head assembly is on needs to be extended up, and as you bring the shell halves back together, the back panel attached to the head assembly tabs into both "engines." Also in this mode, the jet segment on the back of the head can be folded down to allow for neck articulation.

*One of the great continuity problems within the G1 animated series concerns the minions of Unicron. Namely, Cyclonus, Scourge, and the Sweeps. The issue stems from the original script never specifying which Decepticons were thrown off Astrotrain and remade into Galvatron's followers, essentially rendering them [[generic]]s. As the third-season episodes were most likely made using the script and not the as-yet-unfinished film, the Insecticons regularly reappeared in later episodes as well as later on in the movie itself. Much scuttlebutt has been made about who has been turned into whom, but ultimately, it falls on the viewer to decide who were the genuine article and who were Decepticons that simply looked like these characters.

He comes with two blasters which he holds via 5 mm post. One of the guns is based on his trademark Ion Blaster, and both weapons store on the back of his vehicle mode as a makeshift engine block. His torso mode has several details that appear to be influenced by [[Optimus Prime (Armada)/toys#Energon|''Energon'' Optimus Prime]]'s super mode, including the head, chest, and thighs. In particular, the chest details are modeled after the [[Spark of Combination]]. He also features two pair of fake windows on his robot and gestalt chest halves. The combiner head can be used as a robot mode head if you're feeling silly.

:Optimus suffers from a design flaw that many other Voyager Class figures in the ''Combiner Wars'' line experience: the detents, or "click points", on the heavily-ratcheted outward motion of his hips (which also form the hips of his torso mode) are few in number and very far apart. As a result, Prime's legs have great difficulty assuming the natural "A-stance" formation that the angled design of his foot sculpt seems to have been meant to accommodate. Likewise, when forming the torso of Ultra Prime, the interactions of the knee-lock mechanism and the hip detents almost always force Ultra Prime's legs into either an awkwardly knock-kneed arrangement or an equally awkward, and often unstable, bow-legged posture (as seen in the image to the right) that prevents Ultra Prime from standing flat-footed. If one wishes, the improved hip ratchets from a relevant release can be used to replace Prime's first edition ratchets to effectively fix him.

:Being a ''Combiner Wars'' Voyager, Prime is naturally capable of transforming into a torso mode to combine with any 4 Deluxe Class ''Combiner Wars''-style toys, though his packaging call-out has him form Ultra Prime by combining him with Deluxe Class [[Skydive (G1 Aerialbot)#Generations|Skydive]] and [[Alpha Bravo]] as the arms, and with [[Fireflight (G1)#Generations|Firefly]] and [[Drag Strip (G1)#Generations|Decepticon Drag Strip]] as the legs. :This Optimus Prime is a Voyager-sized Triple Changer mold, which transforms from robot to [[Octane (G1)|Octane]]-ish tanker truck to plane. His robot mode is heavily based on ''Generation 2'' [[#LaserOptimusPrime|Laser Optimus Prime]], whilst the deco appears to draw from Star Convoy. His Titan Master partner [[Diac#Toys|Diac]] transforms into his head (but any Titan Master figure is compatible). Like all ''[[Titans Return (toyline)|Titans Return]]'' Voyager class figures, he has built-in mechanisms to "bulk up" his noggin. In his case, these are spring-loaded pylons. His robot mode also features fake truck windows.

:This iteration of the mold and its redecoes exhibit a minor design flaw: there are two tabs on the plane mode's wings that prevent the truck mode's trailer from fully closing at the rear. Ostensibly, this can be rectified by setting the wings slightly askew so they can properly flatten against each other. However, this leads to some holes on each wing not being lined up with some corresponding pegs on the trailer.

:The stock photo is slightly mistransformed: the wings in jet mode should sit further forward to better resemble a real commercial jet. The packaging art and instructions show the correct orientation. This error is present in photography for all reuses of this variant of this mold.

:This mold was redecoed into ''Legends'' [[Scourge (RID)#Voyager|Black Convoy]] and ''Street Fighter X Transformers'' [[Ryu#Toys|Ryu]], and retooled into [[Octane#Titans Return|Octone]]. Beginning with this wave, Hasbro changed the standard packaging design for ''Titans Return'' Voyagers from "Autobot" style to "Decepticon" style regardless of character faction.

:Unlike the above Voyager Class figure, this Prime is fully compatible with the [[Magnus Armor]], as is Ultra Magnus with Optimus's Super Mode gear. Also, whether intentional or not, the figure scales almost perfectly with other figures from the original Cybertron line.

:The box art of his vehicle modes is [[Stock photography#Problems with stock photos|mistransformed]], likely as a result of using CGI renders; the two shoulder pieces are shown being left on, which is genuinely impossible and in fact appear to be clipped through each other. They are instead stored inside the leg armor, which forms the back end of the trailer. Strangely, the clear blue plastic used for the cab has light bars molded in, but they are painted over in red. :The star-shaped piece that clips into Star Convoy's chest is new to this version of the mold. Because it pegs into a small hole between the tops of the doors to Star Convoy's chest compartment, it introduces an additional step to access the matrix chamber. The red connector which attaches the star to the figure is misassembled, and flipped from its proper orientation. Due to this, the star is prone to not attaching securely to the chest and can easily pop out without much effort. Care should be taken when handling the star and transforming Star Convoy to ensure it does not bump against other parts of the figure or experience undue stress, as it is molded from clear plastic coated in gold chrome. The stem of the star is particularly fragile and has been known to break without much force being applied to it.

:Reminiscent of the fact that the original [[Optimus Prime (G1)/toys#Return of Convoy|''Return of Convoy'' Star Convoy]] figure could transform into a battle station, a "Z Base Mode" resembling that original battle station mode was created for the character and introduced in the ''Selects'' [[Super Megatron comic 1|Special Comic promoting Super Megatron]]. If the issue persists, the flaps can be left untransformed to properly straighten the cab.

: His very cartoon-like robot mode has an opening chest compartment containing a removable [[Matrix of Leadership/toys#War for Cybertron: Earthrise|Matrix of Leadership]] accessory; in an undocumented feature, the Matrix is able to accommodate "Fire Blast" effect parts and attach to similarly-sized posts. His new Ion Blaster rifle, now in its classic shape, is hinged to fold away the barrel for storage. :Part of the first wave of ''[[Transformers: Legacy|Legacy]]'' Leader Class toys, "Laser Optimus Prime" is an updated version of his [[Optimus Prime (G1)/toys#LaserOptimusPrime|''Generation 2'' design]] which transforms into a mid-1990s Western Star 4964EX, with deco and sculpt details most directly based on the [[Optimus Prime (G1)/toys#G2Reissue|2006 "Battle Convoy" reissue version's modified deco and stickers]] with a flame deco on the front from [[Optimus Prime (G1)/toys#RTSDeluxe|his 2010 Deluxe Class figure]]. He includes an Energon sword, an Energon axe, a new removable Matrix of Leadership which echoes the sticker details of the 2006 reissue, and a trailer that can transform into a battle station (tanker deco of Optimus burning down a forest not included, sadly) with a small detachable double barreled cannon. The axe and sword can store either inside the trailer or on the cab, with the sword storing underneath the rear section of the cab like the original and the axe slotting in over the trailer hitch. In tanker mode, the trailer's claw arm can be folded down to act as a jack to allow it to stand freely. His signature shoulder pylons can open outwards to reveal missile pods. He has restricted arm movement as the shoulder pylons do not rotate, whilst the real arms start beneath the flap.

: Not mentioned in his instructions, the sword and axe can combine into a larger sword. His Matrix can be attached to the axe or the combined sword, using the rectangular peg near the axes' haft (normally meant to keep the handle folded neatly for storage). The chest slot where the Matrix plugs in is open in the back, seemingly meant to allow for [[light-piping]] in robot mode. His eyes feature neutered light-piping due to the back of his head being painted over, but the eyes themselves are left unpainted.

:Most of Laser Optimus Prime's lower body, including his hips, thighs, the front of his lower legs (except for the shin vents), and feet, reuse elements from the ''Earthrise'' toy above whereas other details like his crotch, shins, back of the lower legs, tires, and the entirety of his upper body are brand-new. Like the ''Earthrise'' toy, the shins have the ''Siege'' figure's trailer hitch on the outside. Laser Optimus' trailer can be attached to ''Earthrise'' Optimus, as well as ''Siege'' Optimus, ''Kingdom'' Huffer, and ''Kingdom'' Pipes. This figure is also similarly compatible with the trailer included with ''Earthrise'' Optimus.

:The [[Hasbro Pulse]] listing for the figure lists him under the name "G2 Universe Laser Optimus Prime", while the packaging itself merely labels him as "Laser Optimus Prime". Despite his origins, Optimus has no G2 faction symbols, only a silver G1 Autobot insignia on his left cab door.

Pax comes with both a red pistol and an [[Energon goodie]] dispenser, both also reused from ''Studio Series'' Kup.

:Orion Pax retains Kup's removable arm and leg feature, which is compatible with any 5mm port or post. Additionally—whether or not it was intentional— Orion Pax's shoulders and hips are inverted straight out of the box, differentiating the overall design from Kup. If one doesn't like them this way, a simple twist of the joints will put them back into the orientation they are on Kup.

:Unfortunately, Orion Pax suffers from the same design issue as the mold's original release. The painted robot mode crotch area that is part of the vehicle mode undercarriage does not fold up far enough to prevent dragging and paint damage, thus care should be taken when the figure is transformed.
