Sector Seven is a secret American government agency, which deals with extraterrestrial technology and threats. It has been around for quite some time, but how long exactly depends on who you ask (see Trivia for more).

It is so secret, it has its own secret website.

Sector Seven sometimes operates through the front companies S7 Industries. and Sectors Even.

Fiction
sectorseven.org
Sector Seven was founded over 100 years ago by a group of seven men:

*Stanford Julius Morehouse
*Edgar Thibedeau Westfield
*Neville Octavian Brewster
*Percy Emerson Whitting
*Wallace Wilson Clairmont
*Alistair Jennings Crowther
*Vance Milhaus Lawson

They are known as "The First Seven," and are said to have "hid the past to protect the future," whatever that means. Their portraits adorn a wall in the lobby of the present day Sector Seven headquarters, as a local pizza boy can attest.

In 2007, after the detection of a "blip" that matched their "threat profile," Agent Alexander Powers informed the organization that war might be imminent and that they were humanity's only hope. He and research scientist Rebecca Howard, ex-lovers, clashed several times over her desire to go public with information about the N.B.E. threat and seek assistance from other nations. This escalated with the detection of "N.B.E. Two," with whom Dr. Howard argued in favor of making contact.

Meanwhile, the mysterious Agent X began hacking into the Sector Seven network and leaking information to the public. Sector Seven (game)

IDW Transformers movie comics
*Apparently, Sector Seven has been around for a very long time; certainly, an existing group has been around since before Sam Witwicky's Great-Great-Grandfather encountered the Mega-Man underneath the arctic ice. Upon hearing his story Sector Seven immediately went into action to seize his find and discredit the story. Transformers Movie Prequel

*Interestingly, even this older version of Sector Seven has a number of interesting artifacts in their collection. These include pictures and a skull from a "triclops" life form of some kind, a severed bestial arm in a jar (possibly from a version of the Beast Wars, although the sketch is difficult to make out and mechanics may not be incorporated) and what could possibly be a fragment of a Golden Disk. Most intriguing indeed.

*1969 - Sector Seven (headed by Walter Simmons, known internally as "The Old Man"), attempted the first test flight of an Ice Man-derived spacecraft (Ghost 1) using the Apollo 11 moon launch as cover. Unexpected complications occurred following contact with NBEs. At the same time the first attempt was made to relocate the Ice Man himself from the Arctic to southern Nevada to be better studied alongside a likewise mysterious "alien cube". Signs seemed to point to Sector Seven beginning to shift from being a secret U.S. military protocol to a non-military "black ops" program. Transformers: Ghosts of Yesterday

Capture the Cube
In 2007, preceding the main Transformer conflict, a lone operative of a third Transformer faction was able to infiltrate the Hoover Dam base and almost obtain the "cube", simply by changing shape when people were coming. If it had reached the "cube", the results would have been horrific. Capture the Cube

Transformers (2007) film
According to Tom Banachek, Sector Seven was convened 80 years ago under President Hoover. (Banachek later also states that the First Seven found the All Spark cube in 1913, but that might have been before Sector Seven was formally created.)

A Sector Seven field team under Director Reggie Simmons headed to the Witwicky residence upon learning of Samuel James Witwicky's living car. Taking Witwicky and Mikaela Banes into custody, Simmons began to interrogate Sam and Mikaela aggressively, until the field unit's convoy was ambushed by Optimus Prime...who ripped off the roof of their SUV. Although they attempted to resist the Autobots, Ironhide alone had more weapons than all of them, and Jazz soon disarmed them. A backup team arrived to capture any of the Autobots they could, but were only successful in capturing Bumblebee and the two teens.

Taken to the Hoover Dam base, Simmons and Tom Banachek showed the teens, an army ranger unit, and Defense Secretary Keller the frozen N.B.E.-01, who Sam Witwicky identified as Megatron, leader of the Decepticons. However, Starscream arrived and destroyed their external power lines, while Frenzy sabotaged Megatron's stasis controls. With Megatron minutes away from thawing, Sam tried to convince Simmons to release Bumblebee, but Simmons was only convinced by Captain Lennox and his men...who pointed dangerous objects at everyone. However, Bumblebee, who was constantly being doused with cryoblasts, nearly lashed out at Sector Seven, before Sam calmed him and took him to the All Spark. Beyond providing a small amount of soldiers to assist the ranger unit under Lennox, Sector Seven played no serious role in the Battle of Mission City, which was mostly decided by the Autobots.

Sector Seven's time had come—and they had done nothing but make the situation worse, all their secret weapons being ineffective against the Decepticons, and having alienated the Autobots. Sector Seven was terminated in an effort to better cover up the existence of the Transformers, but it may have been influenced by their loss of control over the situation. Transformers (2007)
Toy bios
Sector Seven managed to remain in operation, seemingly by buddying up to the Autobots very quickly; Ironhide appears to have been bribed with free experimental weaponry. #Voyager Class toys What they don't know is that the Autobots have a secret agent, Landmine, spying on them. Landmine (Movie) Worryingly, several Decepticons appear to be doing the same thing.

Sector Seven had made the situation so bad that, in an alternate timeline, a single second's difference by Sam at Mission City led to the conquest & Decepticon occupation of the United States and the gradual transformation of Earth into a new Cybertron, with their Hoover Dam base being used by Megatron to store Optimus Prime's frozen body. Nice one, guys. Twilight's Last Gleaming, Part: 1

The only member of the organization seen so far fighting the Decepticons was Tom Banachek. His knowledge of the Hoover Dam base proved invaluable, as did his knowledge of (and probable involvement in) a nanovirus that targeted All Spark operational frequencies: a weapon Sector Seven created in case they lost control of the All Spark and needed to destroy it. Twilight's Last Gleaming, Part: 5 Why they hadn't used it when Megatron gained the All Spark at Mission City? Because they suck.

Sector Seven was later reformed under President Allen, and Tom Banachek was placed in charge of it. Their mandate was to stop everyone on Earth from realizing that Megatron's aforementioned gradual transformation of their world had not stopped completely, and that the planet was facing techno-organic armageddon. Dark Spark Being Sector Seven, they crapped this up.

Equipment
As an exceptionally well-funded secret government organisation, Sector Seven is at the cutting edge of human (or alien-derived) technology in their quest to better understand the Ice Man, the Cube, and to seek other N.B.E.s on Earth.

Sector Seven Mobile Command Unit
To counter public suspicion and the information about the N.B.E.s leaked by Agent X, Sector Seven employed a mass disinformation program in the form of a road tour at various cinemas across America. Black Peterbilt cabover trucks pull large, armoured trailers containing sophisticated communications and scanning equipment, as well as a small cage for containing any captured N.B.E.s assigned agents happen to find. However, the communications equipment aboard these trailers are frequently susceptible to displaying emergency communiques from Sector Seven Command showing a very well-edited and scored satellite video feed of an alien robot attack in Qatar, usually in the presence of ordinary civilians.

Sector Seven Mobile Command Unit

M9-2 Harpoon Gun
The M9-2 Harpoon Gun is a weapon developed by Sector Seven, under the direction of Rebecca Howard. The intial protoype was completed in 2003. Featuring an armor-piercing projectile that weighs 21.2 kilograms, the weapon has a range of 55 meters with a muzzle velocity of 324 meters per second. Primitive by N.B.E. standards, the weapon is nevertheless effective at subduing non-hostile aliens and contain them for cryo-freezing.

In 2003, Sector Seven first used the harpoon gun against Bumblebee outside of Baton Rogue, Louisiana, mounted on their pursuit vans. Bumblebee defeated them by dragging the vans into each other. Interlude Four years later, Sector Seven had better luck with these harpoons when Bumblebee was cornered trying to protect his human friends, Sam and Mikaela. Three helicopters mounted with harpoons entangled Bumblebee, allowing soldiers to move in and freeze the helpless Autobot. Transformers (2007)

M9-2 Harpoon Gun

Pursuit van
Once an N.B.E. has been located within range of Sector Seven field units, Mobile teams are sent out in pursuit vans to intercept and capture them (alive if possible). Equipped with the standard array of sophisticated communications equipment one comes to expect from Sector Seven, the vans are armed with a passenger-side M9-2 harpoon gun and generally carry a squad of troops armed with portable cryo-freezing units.

Outside of Baton Rogue, these vans, carrying Sector Seven troopers, tried to corral Bumblebee with their harpoons and totally failed. Interlude

AH-64 Apache attack helicopter
Sector Seven uses modified AH-64 Apache helicopters fitted with cryo-stasis rocket pods to capture N.B.E.s

Outside of Denver, Colorado, Bumblebee was attacked by one of these modified Apaches. It tried to hem him in with machine gun fire, but failed to hit the Autobot with its cryo-stasis pods. Interlude Soon afterwards, in New Mexico, several similar Apaches awaited Bumblebee in a trap set by Agent Simmons. However, the Decepticons turned up, complicating matters. Two Apaches attempted to cryo-freeze Blackout, but were destroyed by Starscream. Prime Directive (IDW) issue 4

SUV
For operations within urban/suburban zones or for human targets, Sector Seven agents travel in custom black GMC Yukons. They do not hold up well to being lifted by their roofs by large N.B.E.s, nor can they withstand electromagnetic pulses.

Agent Simmons and other Sector Seven personnel arrived at the Witwicky house in these GMC Yukons. After arresting the Witwickys and Mikeala Banes, Optimus Prime stopped several of these vehicles with his legs, then lifted the SUV containing Simmons, Sam and Mikeala by the roof, breaking it off and freeing his human friends. Reinforcement Yukons were easily defeated by an EMP blast from Ironhide's cannon. After Sam and Mikeala were rearrested, they were transported to and from an airfield in Nevada to Hoover Dam. Transformers (2007)

Assault buggy
Based upon the Chenowth Desert Patrol Vehicle (DPV) formerly used by the United States Military, this all-purpose, high-speed recon and attack vehicle can be fitted with Sector Seven's specially-developed weapons, ranging from cryo-freezing cannons (though this requires cryo-tanks to be installed in the rear compartment) to belt-fed automatic grenade launchers capable of firing armor-piercing sabot rounds.

After Sam Witwicky, Captain Lennox's soldiers and the Autobots came to an agreement with Sector Seven, the human soldiers mounted up on the assault buggies to escort Bumblebee and the All Spark cube to Mission City. They fared poorly against the attacking Decepticon forces, with many wrecks strewn about the city streets. Transformers (2007)

During the battle of Mission City, of these buggies was imbued with power from the All Spark and became the Autobot Landmine.

L.M.-1 drones
L.M.-1 drones are Sector Seven's crowning technological achievement: their own transforming mechanoids.

With the assistance of the captured Decepticon Wreckage, Agent Salazar and Professor Vine were able to develop the L.M.-1 units using Sector Seven's own assault buggy as a vehicle template at their Nevada desert base. Alliance issue 2 However, they failed to function once Wreckage was hit by an EMP weapon and shut down. The Reign of Starscream issue 2 Later, when the All Spark sliver reactivated Wreckage, it also activated the L.M.-1s. Though they were armed with automatic grenade launchers and shoulder mounted missiles, they fared poorly against the rampaging Decepticon. Alliance issue 2

Sector Seven Drone
These large treaded robots patrol the interior of Hoover Dam serving as security patrols. They are also found at certain military installations seemingly not in association with the secret agency. They are equipped with two powerful cannons.

{{note|A far different kind of Sector Seven Drone, a white, Decepticon-like legged robot, appears very infrequently in the Antarctic level of Transformers: Autobots in only one mission. ===Contradictory founding date===
Various movie-related media have offered contradictory information regarding when Sector Seven was originally founded:

*In the movie itself (which is, for all intents and purposes, the "primary" media), Tom Banachek tells John Keller that Sector Seven was "convened 80 years ago under President Hoover". This would place the founding date of Sector Seven somewhere around 1927 (assuming the main events of the movie do indeed take place in 2007). Ignoring the historical error (Herbert Hoover didn't suceed Calvin Coolidge as president until 1929), Banachek later also tells Keller and everyone else given a tour of the S7 headquarters inside Hoover Dam that the First Seven had found the All Spark cube in 1913, but he doesn't explicitly state that Sector Seven had already been established by then, so the discovery of the cube might have in fact been one of the factors that had later led to the formation of the organization.
*Meanwhile, information revealed as part of the Sector Seven Alternate Reality Game establishes that the First Seven had founded Sector Seven "over 100 years ago" (that is, before 1907).
*Issue 2 of IDW's Movie Prequel mini-series implies that Sector Seven had already been established and operating for quite some time before Archibald Witwicky found Megatron in 1897 (they are shown to have a headquarters with quite a number of interesting artifacts displayed in trophy cases by 1898). To topple things off, Sector Seven is shown to discover the All Spark cube as early as 1902.

Of course it's possible that all this is simply part of the mystery surrounding such a shady group... but then again, why should Banachek lie to the United States' Secretary of Defense about the founding date of his organization?
The Decepticons are one of the primary factions in the Transformers mythos. They are typically concerned with such things as galactic conquest, defeating the Autobots, amassing large quantities of energon, developing powerful weaponry, and beating people up. Not necessarily in that order.

Unlike the Autobots, whose leader is a Prime bearing a Matrix, the Decepticons are led by the most powerful of their ranks. This tends to cause some conflict, given how everyone thinks that they're the most powerful. Also, the Decepticons are not exactly the most compassionate beings in the universe, but not all fight for greed. More than a few have a sense of honor, while others believe that Cybertron would be better protected by aggressive expansion. Ultimately, the Decepticons desire to protect their homeworld, even if it is at the expense of others. Usually.

The Decepticons emerged from the gladiatorial State Games, which caused Megatron's rise to public prominence - in the aftermath of the destructive Vos-Tarn War, Megatron was able to use his fame and charisma to unite both the survivors and the planet's malcontents into a new army. His plan was to turn Cybertron into a mobile cosmic dreadnought and conquer the galaxy. The Decepticons developed new technology to allow them to transform into attack vehicles and weaponry, launching a devastating attack that killed billions and shook the planet from its orbit before Optimus Prime turned the tide.

Megatron, Shockwave and others were lost on Earth for four million years; as Optimus was too, the Autobots swiftly lost ground to Decepticon leaders Trannis and Straxus. Cybertron was devastated and conquered, causing the cream of the Decepticons to leave the burnt-out planet to form a Cybertronian Empire out in the stars, while Straxus threw all those he considered weak into the Smelting pool. The Empire would go on to slaughter and Cyberform planet after planet, their actions unknown on Cybertron.

Eventually the Earth-bound Decepticons would awaken in 1984, sparking off a new front in the war. After the presumed suicide of Megatron, an escalation in fighting would see Decepticon leadership fragment and change hands rapidly, with frequent clashes, plots and counter-plots between the primary leadership, namely Starscream, Shockwave, Ratbat, and Scorponok, until most of them were killed in the Underbase conflict, leaving Scorponok the only surviving commander. A brief truce with the Autobots was held when Unicron attacked in 1991, but Scorponok was killed in the following conflict. Immediately after this, Bludgeon came to power. Charismatic and driven, Bludgeon turned the beaten Decepticons into a new army; after a defeat on Klo, they regrouped and reorganised. (In one reality, they were immediately massacred afterward.)

Earthforce
In the side-continuity of Earthforce, while Unicron continued on to Cybertron, Megatron and Shockwave continued a Decepticon civil war on Earth with a small handful of troops - wasting most of their time trying to take each other out. Eventually Soundwave and Starscream overthrew them, uniting both factions into a stronger Decepticon force. The two former leaders attempted to regain their position but never appeared to succeed.

Generation 2
Bludgeon invaded Earth with the intention of capturing the Matrix and making a new generation of Decepticons, but Megatron returned, killed Bludgeon in one-on-one combat, and stole this plan. However, the threat of the Cybertronian Empire forced an alliance between the Autobots and Decepticons again.

Classics
Cartoon
Season 1 & 2
In the various continuities descending from Generation 1, the Decepticons and the Autobots are the two great powers in the Transformer population. The factions, however, are not a complete set -- there are Transformers who are unaffiliated / neutral, or even members of smaller or splinter factions.

Many G1 timelines actually credit Megatron as the founder of the Decepticons, not merely its most recent leader. In contrast, Optimus Prime is almost always depicted as only the latest in a long line of Primes or Matrix Bearers.

Eventually, the Decepticons managed to take control of all of Cybertron, forcing the Autobots to operate on Cybertron's two moons, but Autobot City on Earth was viewed as the greater threat. The Decepticons overtook a supply shuttle and launched an attack, with disastrous consequences for the Autobots. The battle saw one of the Decepticons' long held dreams achieved in the death of Optimus Prime, but Megatron was damaged, and left to rot in deep space. Unicron reformatted him into Galvatron, and Galvatron attempted to enslave Unicron with the Matrix of Leadership. When Unicron attacked Cybertron, most of the Decepticon forces on the planet were wiped out, allowing the Autobots to retake control of the planet.

Season 3 & 4
Times would turn harsh for the Decepticons who were forced to abandon their homeworld of Cybertron and were exiled to the burnt out planet of Chaar. There they would face constant energy shortages and engage in constant inter-fighting, as well as suffer from a lack of leadership. From this chaos came Cyclonus and the Sweeps, who hatched a plan of finding Galvatron who would lead the Decepticons once more.

Eventually, the Autobots, led by a resurrected Optimus Prime, managed to finally defeat the Decepticons.

Dreamwave
The Decepticons arose out of the underground fights that Megatron once partook in. After discovering certain secrets about Cybertron's origin, including massive planetary engines, Megatron began using the games to recruit combatants. For nearly half a million years, they grew in numbers and trained, until they rebelled against the Council of Ancients and took Kaon by force.

While the war raged on, the Constructicons repaired the engines and introduced a mecha-forming process, but what they really needed was a power source. Megatron became convinced that he could find one powerful enough within the Matrix, which was in the possession of Sentinel Prime. However, when Megatron finally killed the Prime, he discovered that it was not within him. Soon after, Optronix became Optimus Prime, and Megatron initiated a plan: an assassination team under Communications Officer Soundwave would elimate the Prime and claim the Matrix, while Military Operations Commander Shockwave would lay siege to Iacon, preventing the Autobots from coming to Prime's rescue.

However, Megatron made two mistakes: he informed Air Commander Starscream of his intentions, and he underestimated Optimus Prime. The Prime managed to erase some of Megatron's memories of what he discovered, while Starscream activated the mechaforming process using energy from the planetary engines. The engines were destroyed before the process was complete, ruining both. The War Within

After Megatron disappeared with Optimus Prime in a space bridge test, Shockwave became Decepticon leader, though Starscream and High Auditor Ratbat broke off with their own splinter factions shortly afterwards. The Decepticons allied with Prowl's Autobots and Grimlock's Lightning Strike Coalition (an Autobot splinter group), to stop the machinations of the Fallen. The War Within: The Dark Ages Several thousand years later, Shockwave was prepared to sign a peace treaty with Ultra Magnus, who had become Autobot leader, the LSC, and Ratbat's Ultracon. However, Megatron returned with the Aerospace Extermination Squadron, an army of Quintesson created Seeker drones, whose abilities allowed the Decepticons to fully conquer Cybertron and enslave the Autobots. The Decepticons' control over Cybertron was ended when Optimus Prime returned to Cybertron and the Air Warriors were defeated. The War Within: The Age of Wrath

When Megatron disappeared along with the Nemesis crew, Shockwave again emerged as Decepticon leader, this time as head of a triumvirate including Ratbat and Scorponok. With energon becoming scarce, Shockwave agreed to work with Ultra Magnus and Fortress Maximus in the creation of the Micromasters, Transformers who were downsized for better fuel efficiency. Shockwave suffered a rebellion when Skystalker overthrew him, using Shockwave's severed head as a tool. Micromasters However, all Transformers on Cybertron entered stasis lock when the Great Shutdown occurred.

Around 1,000 B.C.E., Shockwave was reactivated by Scourge, and then defeated the Unicronian Transformer. Studying Scourge and discovering some of the secrets Megatron had learned, Shockwave made peace with the Autobots, installing himself as Head of State with an Autobot High Council as a legislature, while Ultra Magnus became his senior security officer. However, the High Councillors were unsuited for peace time government, and gradually gave Shockwave more and more power... which is exactly what he had planned.

On Earth, the Nemesis crew was reawakened in 1984. Cut off from Cybertron, the Decepticons concluded that they had no other choice but to conquer the planet. Megatron soon learned that others had come looking for them, including Jetfire and the Dynobots. The Decepticons captured Jetfire and the Dinobots except Grimlock, and used the hostage situation to force Grimlock to serve the Decepticons. Additionally, the Constructicons located Earth and served under Megatron. In 1998, the Autobots allied with humanity to defeat the Decepticons. They were to be returned to Cybertron in the Ark II, but Shockwave, through a human intermediary, sabotaged the Ark II, causing the ship to crash and send the Transformers aboard into stasis lock.

Renegade members of the United States Military managed to capture the Decepticons and a number of Autobots, intending to use them as instruments of war, but Adam Rook later stole them and set himself up as an arms dealer. Unfortunately, Megatron overwhelmed the programming that kept him a prisoner, and freed the other Decepticons. Megatron then intended to unleash a technovirus on Earth, but the Autobots defeated him. Prime Directive

A year later, Shockwave arrived to tie up loose ends, quickly capturing Megatron and the Nemesis crew. Starscream ejected Megatron out of the ship carrying them to Cybertron, leaving him to die in space. The Nemesis crew were granted amnesty, but Starscream quickly recruited them into going back to Earth to conquer the planet, taking the Combaticons with them. Shockwave was finally overthrown when Optimus Prime united the Autobot resistance groups, but he escaped with a small number of troops. War and Peace

Meanwhile, Megatron was rescued by Wreck-Gar, who repaired his memory loss. Using some recovered Air Warriors, Megatron located the Predacons, who were used to take control of Shockwave's small army. On Earth, Starscream's failures during Sunstorm's rampage were reason enough to convince the Nemesis crew to mutiny against Starscream in Megatron's favor. With two combiner teams, an army of seekers, Soundwave's cassettes, and knowledge of Earth's connection to Cybertron, Megatron prepared to lead the Decepticons on the conquests of Earth and Cybertron Generation One (Dreamwave comic)...
IDW
ongoing
The Decepticons appear to have been formed out of the uprising in Kaon that Megatron spearheaded in Megatron: Origin. They also may have completely abandoned Cybertron, and have bases set up on the worlds they've captured or space stations as seen in Spotlight: Sixshot.

Aftermath
Both sides signed the Pax Cybertronia, which eventually led to peace, but left the Decepticons in a second class position.

Beast Era
In Beast Wars continuity, the Predacons were the descendants of the Decepticons and fought with the same aggression and ideas of conquest. They faced the Maximals in the same way their ancestors had fought the Autobots.

Robots in Disguise
In the Robots in Disguise cartoon, the Decepticons were a brand new faction that came into being during the events of the story. Because there were so few Decepticons (only six or seven), and because they were a subset of the Predacon antagonists, they can almost be viewed as a subgroup rather than a proper faction. The RiD Decepticons were created on Earth when Megatron's forces captured a set of stasis pods from an ancient Transformer spaceship that had been found on Earth, leading to the birth of the Commandos and Scourge. The toy version of Galvatron was also labeled as a Decepticon, although this "change" in the character's faction was only mentioned once in the cartoon series.

In the Japanese version of RiD, Car Robots, the Decepticons were known as Combatrons. This is the same name by which the G1 Combaticons were called in Japan.

For the Hasbro toy line, several other non-show Decepticons were added to the ranks to help fill out the line. It is unknown how most of these actually fit into the story, though one of them, Axer, is actually a dimension-hopper who arrived from the Generation 1 universe.

Unicron Trilogy
Animated continuity
Armada
The exact origins of the Decepticon faction are a bit muddled. It is widely assumed, though never directly confirmed, that the movement was founded by Megatron. Also, the enslavement of the power-enhancing Mini-Cons is considered to be the impetus to the Decepticons' rise to a massive multi-planet-spanning army, though at what point in the war this occurred is unclear; it's possible the Mini-Cons' arrival was what gave Megatron the opportunity to rise to power, or that they arrived after the war had already begun.

Either way, the Mini-Cons fueled the war machine for centuries, and the war with the Autobots soon spread from Cybertron to other worlds. The self-imposed exile of the Mini-Cons to an unknown destination was seen as a major setback for the Decepticons (and something of a pyrrhic victory for the Autobots), but despite this, the war continued, as both sides had amassed a large enough power base to continue on without the little buggers.

The Autobots and Decepticons seemed to fight to a stalemate, neither able to gain a distinct advantage over the other. When a signal reached Cybertron centuries later that the Mini-Cons had landed on Earth, it seemed neither side was capable of sending a full force to retrieve them, despite the power they contained. Though the Decepticon force sent to Earth was small in numbers, it was far from insignificant; Megatron himself led the squad, backed by some of his most trusted warriors.

When Megatron returned to Cybertron, the overwhelming majority of the Mini-Cons were in the protective custody of the Autobots, but Megatron was unfazed; he had assembled the Mini-Cons required to make the three legendary weapons: the Star Saber, Skyboom Shield and Requiem Blaster. Bolstered by this new power and the apparent death of Optimus Prime, Megatron attempted to take Cybertron once and for all.

But Megatron's return to Cybertron was the beginning of the end of the Decepticon army. When Unicron revealed himself as a threat to both armies, fueled by the negative psychic energies from centuries of death and destruction, the two sides eventually joined together to beat back the planet-eater. Despite the truce, Megatron and Prime engaged in a brutal duel on the surface of the weakened Unicron after the three legendary weapons had been removed from his core. Realizing their battle was keeping Unicron active, Megatron sacrificed himself, and both Unicron and Megatron disappeared into nothingness.

Energon
Megatron's final orders to his troops still stood: work with the Autobots. The Decepticons maintained a degree of autonomy, still wearing the faction sigil and often taking military/defensive positions in the growing number of energon-mining colonies, but they were ultimately answerable to Optimus Prime and the Autobots. There were, of course, dissenters, most of whom were captured and imprisoned. For a decade, Autobot and Decepticon worked side-by-side in a somewhat stable truce.

Both sides found themselves the target of attacks from Unicron again; hordes of Terrorcon drones, sent by Alpha Quintesson to steal energon ore with which to revive the now-shattered husk of Unicron. What the alien did not count on was that Megatron's spark had survived within the remains, and was siphoning energon from Unicron's body. Soon the Decepticon leader revived himself in a new form, drove off Alpha Quintesson, and along with an elite cadre of soldiers and a seemingly inexhaustible supply of mindless Terrorcon drones, began his new plans for conquest.

When news of Megatron's return reached Cybertron, hundreds of Decepticons rose up and rebelled, eager to get back to conquering. But having been joined to Unicron for so long apparently had given Megatron a taste of godhood; he had no more interest in amassing a galaxy-spanning army of troops. Countless Decepticons died in the resulting battles, with Megatron more than willing to sacrifice them without a thought to attain ultimate power for himself. As the "Powerlinx Battles" -as they came to be called- came to their climax, Megatron found that his actions and thoughts were being influenced and controlled by the dark spark of Unicron. Unwilling to let Unicron stand in his way, Megatron ultimately sacrificed himself (again) and seemingly destroyed Unicron's spark by plunging himself into a newly-formed energon sun created by Primus.

Cybertron
What little remained of the once-mighty Decepticon army after Megatron's loss was at best a loose association of criminals, thugs, and lunatics, with no real political or military power to speak of. For a decade, Cybertron was once again at peace, with the population overwhelmingly Autobot or neutral. The Transformers had withdrawn from Earth and its other colonies to focus on revitalizing their homeworld after the devastation of the Powerlinx Battles. However, two great catastrophes shattered this peace; the energon sun collapsed in on itself, forming the powerful black hole known as the Unicron Singularity, which threatened to devour Cybertron and, if left unchecked, the entire universe... and the return yet once again of Megatron, who had absorbed much of what remained of Unicron's power.

Megatron's goal of attaining godhood was now at hand. By obtaining the legendary Omega Lock and the four Cyber Planet Keys, Megatron intended to accelerate the growth of the black hole, consuming the universe in a vast sea of nothingness that only he would survive, then use his powers to re-create the universe in his image.

To this end, he had no need of an army. He gathered a small group of allies and lackeys to seek the items he needed, but they were nothing more than pawns to him, to be used and discarded at a whim.

The Decepticons briefly regained their status as a mass army of individuals when Starscream, who had long suffered at Megatron's hands since the beginning of the Decepticons, made his own bid for ultimate power with the help of the Planet X agent Sideways. Having sealed Megatron and his troops in a trap, Starscream freed hundreds of criminal Transformers who had been locked up on Earth for millennia, and formed his own globe-spanning army. The Decepticon "Monsters" were tasked with finding the Omega Lock and Earth's Cyber Planet Key, which they eventually brought to their leader. However, numerous Decepticons were killed in the battles with the Autobots, and it soon became apparent that Starscream, like Megatron before him, didn't care. Most of these criminals soon abandoned Starscream and went into hiding.

As for Megatron, he too had deserters among his own considerably-small ranks. Most notably, the powerful Scourge, leader of the Jungle Planet and the colossal Menasor from Gigantion, both of whom eventually joined forces with their former enemies the Autobots.

This was not seen as a concern for Megatron, however, as by this time Starscream and his allies were seemingly destroyed on Gigantion, and Megatron (now calling himself "Galvatron" again) had the Omega Lock and all four Keys. What few Decepticons remained loyal to him were too stupid to see what Galvatron had planned, and made perfect distractions as he set his final plan in motion. If they weren't strong enough to survive the coming cataclysm, then so be it.

Ultimately, Galvatron's plan failed, and the Unicron Singularity was sealed. His remaining Decepticons quickly left him, realizing what was likely to have happened to them, and eventually joined the Autobots. After Galvatron's seemingly-final defeat and death in a one-on-one duel with Optimus Prime on Cybertron's moon, the Decepticons, not knowing when to quit, rose again, albeit in a rather pathetic fashion. Having cobbled together a rather rickety rocket, Ransack, Crumplezone and Thunderblast shanghaied the reluctant Thundercracker, who was really keen on being on the winning side for once, and flew off to parts unknown as the "New Decepticon Army".

They made it to Mars before the rocket crash-landed.

Meanwhile, the Autobot Wing Saber reported form a deep-space recon mission that he thought he had picked up traces of Starscream, seemingly backed up by Sideways and Soundwave. Landmine and the former Decepticon Mudflap raced off to join Wing Saber and investigate...

Comics continuity
Armada
Founded by Megatron, the exact number of the original Decepticons is unknown. Using the Mini-Cons as weapons, they were able to conquer Cybertron and force the Autobots underground. Eventually they were beaten due to the arrival of Unicron: his heralds slaughtered the entire Decepticon base on Cybertron, and the Chaos-Bringer's arrival forced them to join forces with the Autobots. With Megatron shot dead during the Unicron battle, the peace held for a period of years.

Transformers (2007) movie
The Decepticons are the Transformers who sided with Lord High Protector Megatron and attempted to seize the All Spark. Their numbers ranged from the treacherous, the fanatical, the violent, and the spastic, to the treacherous fanatically violent spazzes. The Decepticons overwhelmed the valiant yet peaceful Autobots, and Optimus Prime made the desperate decision to launch the All Spark into deep space. Megatron obsessively followed after it, and disappeared. Starscream took over leadership, and began a search for Megatron and the All Spark. After a while, Starscream began to focus more on the All Spark, hoping Megatron would remain lost, something the other Decepticons began to suspect.

The Decepticons are, in general, less human in appearance than the Autobots in the movie, resembling carnivorous mammals, birds, insects or the Decepticon insignia itself (possibly to frighten the insects). The comics show that the Decepticons are overstretched on Cybertron: they use drone units to bolster their forces Prelude: Optimus Prime and many of their outposts are mostly automated. Lost In Space 3: Ironhide

In a departure from previous Transformers incarnations, Japan used the name "Decepticons" for this franchise, rather than "Destrons".

What is also most noticeable about the Decepticons in the movie franchise is that they've actually been designed to resemble the insignia of their faction, most notably Megatron, Blackout, and Barricade.

Animated
ongoing
4 million stellar cycles ago, the Autobots and Decepticons battled each other in what is now known as The Great War. The Autobots pulled a victory only due to their exclusive access to space bridges and their decision to send the AllSpark into deep space. Defeated, the Decepticons dispersed, and, according to Ultra Magnus, the only sight of them would be an occasional scout ship. In fact, they had been missing for so long, Optimus Prime believed a Decepticon presence was a thing of the past. This was quickly reassessed upon encountering Megatron's crew.

The Decepticons in Transformers Animated are fought by the Autobots a lot less than in previous continuities, instead staying mostly in the background, thus making it more momentous whenever they do appear. To go with this plan, the Decepticons are, for the most part, stronger than the Autobots in this series.

Shattered Glass
The Decepticons are a resistance group, intended to overthrow Autobot tyranny and their dastardly leader, Optimus Prime.
Where his teammates are quite serious-minded, Servo is a
happy-go-lucky sort. He's a bit of a doof and occasionally oblivious to
what's going on around him, but his technical skills are
unquestionable. His cheerful outlook keeps his teammates from ever
getting too down, even if he does occasionally do some pretty stupid
things.

Primus only knows what trouble he'd have gotten himself into without the supervision of his teammates Redline and Flat-Out.
Fiction
Legends of the Microns: Linkage
Servo and his teammates escaped from the crashing Exodus
in an escape pod that landed in the Pacific Ocean off the coast of
Washington. They lay dormant for centuries until the Mini-Cons were
reactivated due to the actions of Rad White and Carlos Lopez. Upon reactivation, the trio crawled onto the shore and took new
alternate forms suited to the environment. They were suddenly pursued
by a pair of Fixer Bugs and escaped into a parking garage. Servo used his scanning ability to prepare a car for conversion into a Turbo Cannon, which was used to destroy their pursuers. However, the car's owner, Stella Holley, saw all this. Linkage Part 1 The trio formed a mental link with Stella and explained their plight to her, and she agreed to help them. Linkage Part 2

The Super Stunt Team, Stella, and the newly-awakened Rollbar ventured to the Deccan Plateau in India, having discovered the presence of a newly-landed shuttle from Cybertron, hoping that it was an Autobot who would allow them to use the shuttle, or at least some of its technology, for their plans of refuge. However, they were attacked by the Speed Chaser Mini-Con Team Linkage Part 3 and Servo was hit by Tailslide's transfixation beam, locking him in vehicle mode, upended to boot. Stella managed to keep the Fixer Bugs away from Servo for a time, but it was the arrival of Scavenger that truly saved them all. Linkage Part 4

After acquiring the shuttle, Servo was out scouting through Seattle when he met Falcia, and brought her back to their base. He helped Flat-Out kinda-sorta explain her "relationship" with Redline to Stella. Linkage Part 5 Shortly afterward, he helped set up the machinery used to retrieve Twirl's soul from the Linkage after her Mini-Con storage panel was damaged in a battle with the Speed Chaser team. Linkage Part 7

Servo, Falcia and Twirl then met with High Wire and Rollbar outside the Autobots' base at Mount Astrogate, discussing both teams' plans for the immediate future. Servo told the two of Redline's plans to find the Master Key and unlock their peoples' true potential, plus free them from their bonds to their creator Unicron. He also found himself between Falcia and Twirl when the former got miffed over a "family" remark made by the latter. Linkage Part 8

The Super Stunt and Sonic Assault Team then set up the equipment to unlock the Master Key, granting Redline and Combusta incredible power, but before the others could unlock their potential, the group was attacked by Ravenus, the Speed chaser Team's last-ditch weapon. Linkage Part 9 The monster's enhanced abilities attacked the servility program ingrained in the Mini-Cons; Servo and Twirl, unable to resist, leapt to the beast and Powerlinxed with him, giving the monster (and the Doomstone he carried within him) the access needed to destroy the Linkage and erase the Mini-Cons' individual minds and free will. Flat-Out and Falcia resisted enough to Powerlinx with Stella's car, turning it into a fighting mech and dislodging Servo. Linkage Part 10Freed and upgraded, Servo helped put out the call to all Mini-Cons via the Linkage Linkage Part 11, which ultimately resulted in Twirl's rescue, the capture and reformatting of Ravenus, and the sealing of the Doomstone. With their task on Earth complete and the threat of Unicron looming over their homeworld of Cybertron, Servo and the others said their goodbyes to Stella, promising to meet again someday. Linkage Part 12

Servo joined his teammates in fighting against Unicron's forces while the bulk of the Mini-Cons formed the Unicron of Light to battle their creator directly. The Super Stunt Team rushed in to face the Speed Chaser Team for one final battle...

...a year later, a group of Mini-Cons led by the Super Stunt and
Sonic Assult Teams had begun construction of a city of their own on
Earth, and were waiting to reunite with their human friend. Linkage Part 13

Hey man, I hate to be a pain, but doesn't the Style Guide say to abbreviate Energon, Armada, and Cybertron as (UT)? He's not a Cybertron character, apparently, but we could mark on the page that he's from the Energon portion of the Unicon Trilogy continuity. - Doogles 21:31, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

:Hi, Doogles - The style guide is undergoing revision, see note on the community portal. It could probably be better marked. We had a long discussion on the Community Portal's talk page about it and eventually decided to use the franchise of origin for characters if and only if they needed disambiguation. So, no more "UT" suffixes. Sometime after Comic Con and the academic conference I'm going to right after that, I will update all the wiki's help pages. --Steve-o 22:29, 17 July 2006 (UTC)

"series Character"
No. I thought it was necessary after seeing how absurdly bloated the Generation 1 category was and thought it would make things much more organized. I'm only doing it for series that have a significant amount of articles that aren't characters; I'm not doing pointless ones like "Operation Combination characters", as only one article in "Operation Combination" isn't a character page. Same goes for stuff like Robot Masters and Victory.

My interpretation of the Generation 1 category differs from yours, evidently. I take "Generation 1" to be the catch-all category of the continuity family, which includes stuff like the Beast Era and Robot Masters. Obviously, this includes Classics. Interrobang 17:18, 3 October 2006 (UTC)

:I agree that the Generation 1 category was bloated and I think having a "Generation 1 characters" category to address that is a good thing. I also think that this sort of significant reshuffling of how we categorize things could probably have stood to have been thoroughly discussed somewhere, like the Community Portal's talk page, prior to implementation. --KilMichaelMcC 18:19, 3 October 2006 (UTC)
David Kaye
I'm not sure about the word "regularly". In this context, it means Kaye has voiced both characters multiple times, and yeah, there are multiple episodes of Animated, but Animated should be taken as a whole. It's the only one series in which Kaye has voiced Optimus. "Regularly", used like this, I would expect to convey the same role across multiple series.

At the same time, G1 Megatron's speaking role in BW was so *small*... --Sntint 18:59, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

:By your definition, Frank Welker's Galvatron wasn't a regular role, as he only voiced him for one full season + three episodes, where Kaye voiced Galvatron for three series.
:For Animated, Prime is a regular role for Kaye. He was hired to voice the main protaginest for the entire series. This isn't like the VA for Sixshot, who was hired to voice one character in a single episode, Wally Burr who would fill in to voice a recurring character if the main VA was unavailiable, or the various regular VAs who would also voice the one line for "Guard #1" --FortMax 19:17, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

::I see what you're saying. For the record, I was going along the line of thought that "regular role" and "voiced regularly" were two seperate (though similar) uses of the word "regular". Apparently that line of thought isn't a common one, nor the one by which the word is used.
::I still don't think the word needs to be there; the sentence makes perfect sense and is still noteable without it, unless I'm forgetting something. King Starscream, at least, seems to have used the same thought process I did, so the note as-is may again be considered inaccurate by others. --Sntint 20:50, 24 November 2007 (UTC)
Hi -- I just responded to your post on Central about the audio ads. Thanks for spotting that ad -- you're right, it's not cool, and we killed it. It wasn't something that somebody at Wikia saw and approved... We get our ads from ad servers, and once in a while, they try to slip something through that crosses the line.

Unfortunately, that means that we only know about a bad ad when we see it, and sometimes, the users will see it before we do. I'm usually the person who notices them -- I'm on the wikis a lot, and I have a very low tolerance for distracting ads.

So if you see an ad like that again, please let me know -- you can leave me a message on my talk page here, and I'll make sure it's taken care of. It's important to me that we don't have ads on the site that drive users away.

Image sizes
Regarding the Road Caesar image you uploaded - take care with image sizes/quality. The wiki software should have warned you if you went over 150KB or something like. In an effort to keep image loading times reasonable and to save on the wiki's server space, when we have big images, we should use photoshop to adjust the image size and quality down to a reasonable file size. Sadly, I don't even have access to what his IP address is. Given that accounts are universal across Wikia and all that, I assume it's only the Wikia staff who can see it. I don't know if it'd do much good anyway; it's SUPPOSED to ban his IP address each time, so unless he just has a dynamic IP (which isn't really that likely nowadays), he's probably using proxies.
