Darak is a top Agorrian pilot. A pragmatic survivor with a knack for thinking outside of the box, he'll do whatever it takes to get out of a tight situation—even break his civilization's longest-standing traditions by daring to work with his hated rivals, the Zertonians.

Fiction
Energon Universe
When Darak was younger, he worked as an "edgewalker" as a means of inarticulate rebellion against his distant father, Minister Dulin.

Many years later, Darak had become a pilot for the Agorrians. When a comet containing four thousand tons of ice passed by the Sacred Ring, Director Elander ordered Darak to retrieve the comet and tow it into Agorrian space; not only would this bolster their own water supplies, but doing so would also keep the comet out of the hands of the Zertonians, who were currently experiencing a water shortage. However, when Darak's ship cleared the orbit of the Sacred Ring, the vessel's autonomous systems failed to revive its pilot. While unconscious, Darak had a mysterious vision explaining the distant origins of his people—how the two races had come together once before to build the Sacred Ring, and would have to come together again once more—before he awoke, moments before a Zertonian starship intercepted his craft. Void Rivals issue 2

In the ensuing dogfight, both ships missed the comet, wound up in a distant quadrant, and crash-landed on a barren planet. Darak's handroid was able to revive its wearer; moments after regaining consciousness, however, Darak discovered that the Zertonian pilot, Solila, had also survived the crash. After a brief struggle, the Zertonian convinced him that, despite their long history of conflict, it would be better to work together to repair her mostly-intact vessel. The pair set to work repairing the ship, but when Solila attached a cable the wrong way, the power surge overloaded the ship's energy core and caused a devastating explosion. All was not lost, however, as Solila returned moments later, with news that she'd found an abandoned but mostly intact starship in a nearby valley. The pair attempted to jumpstart the ship's power cells—when they did so, however, the ship revealed itself to be the Cybertronian Jetfire, who promptly transformed and flew away.

Despite this latest setback, seeing Jetfire transform gave Darak the idea of stripping their armor for parts and using them to repair the ship, ignoring their race's shared taboos against removing their helmets in the presence of an enemy. The pair did so, and realized that Agorrians and Zertonians were members of the same species. Void Rivals issue 1

After returning to Darak's wrecked vessel, the pair spent weeks cobbling together whatever they could find into a ramshackle, semi-pressurized spacecraft—enough to get them off the planet and broadcast a long-distance distress signal. While floating through an asteroid field, their ship drifted into the path of a massive starship built into the hull of a hollowed-out meteor; when the vessel pulled them in, the two ran afoul of its owner, a fearsome Skuxxoid. Void Rivals issue 2
As the Vok put their final contingency into play, the Maximals and Predacons unite to forestall the ultimate extinction event.

Synopsis
As a stunned Rhinox comes to outside the crashed Darksyde, Dinobot helps the dazed Maximal to his feet—but not even the stoic engineer can keep his composure in the face of what they're up against: the Vok have already begun their counterattack! While the Maximals and Predacons spent cycles modifying their weapons to handle energy-based lifeforms, they weren't prepared for Tarantulas's treachery, for the mad scientist has successfully activated every stasis pod he could find and turned the protoforms into more Vok soldiers! As Dinobot leaps into battle, Optimus Primal grapples with Tigatron, while Megatron deals with Armordillo and Snarl. Cheetor and Blackarachnia fight back-to-back to eliminate Razorclaw and Insecticon, but Blackarachnia points out that, with the Maximals and Predacons outnumbered five-to-one, they can't hold out forever...

In the crashed Axalon, Waspinator and Rattrap have successfully brought the ship's engines and weapons systems back online... but when Waspinator asks why Rattrap hasn't already lifted off, the little Maximal explains that, between Scorponok's last message and the Golden Disk files he's decoded, he's learned that the Vok don't like transwarp technology... and that's precisely why he's rigging up the ship's transwarp drive to weaponize unspace against the aliens.

Back on the battlefield, Skold easily holds her own against the Children of the Vok, only to be suddenly blasted, paralyzed, and pinned down by the zombie Terrorsaur. Thankfully, Rhinox's beast mode and double gatling guns shred Terrorsaur to bits before the burly Maximal finally punches the monster out. As Nyx tangles with Jetstorm and Airazor, Primal and Megatron trade barbs, while, from his vantage point atop the crashed Darksyde, Tarantulas exults in the bedlam until an irate Blackarachnia tries to take him down. Despite her best efforts, however, she can't take out the slippery spider, who swats her aside... moments before the Vok themselves finally arrive to observe the proceedings. However, the dispassionate aliens have arrived only to voice their disappointment with this entire experiment: after many cycles of observation, they've come to the conclusion that all Cybertronians, even the ones they've twisted to serve them, are simply too violent and disruptive to be allowed continued existence. The only way forward, Tikaani announces, is to sterilize the planet and begin again. While a horrified Tigatron realizes what this means, Megatron bellows defiance at the aliens for violating the terms of their agreement—but as the Vok incapacitate all of the Transformers present with a surge of energy, one of the planet's many floating mountains begins to transform into a massive reversion device to scour the planet clean of life. Before they can give the command to sterilize the Cybertronian infection, however, a brilliant lance of transwarp energy cuts through the air and instantly disintegrates Pakak! Tikaani and Tonrar have only a few seconds to panic before Rattrap and Waspinator fire again, destroy the two remaining Vok, and finally put an end to their machinations.

With their alien benefactors gone, Tigatron's momentarily lost—but when Optimus offers a truce, Tigatron, Airazor, and most of the others agree to leave, and simply live in nature like the Vok intended. Megatron, on the other hand, won't accept defeat so easily, but as he pounces on Optimus, a fourth blast catches the Predacon leader in its beam and leaves nothing behind but a wisp of glowing smoke. An annoyed Primal rounds on Rattrap as the Axalon touches down, but Rattrap explains that he didn't kill the Predacon leader, merely shunted him forward a few cycles in time. Although Optimus suggests that they extend their truce to find Megatron and return to Cybertron together, Blackarachnia and the other Predacons decline the offer. Dinobot points out that he and all the other Predacons will take the fall if they return to Cybertron without their leader, leaving Megatron free to continue plotting. Primal understands, but warns Blackarachnia that they'll be seeing one another again, and that the Maximals might not be so understanding when next they meet.

As the Axalon takes off to find Megatron, Blackarachnia—unexpectedly thrust into a leadership role after Megatron's disappearance—announces their new plan: find and kill Tarantulas, then devise a way to get their ship spaceworthy again. However, the remaining three Predacons discover that not all of the Children of the Vok have left: left rudderless by the loss of his old "queens", Inferno pledges fealty to the Predacon cause, while Blackarachnia wonders if they could scavenge some of the spare parts left behind by the destruction of the Vok's superweapon...

One hundred and fourteen cycles later, Megatron abruptly rematerializes in an empty cave. As he stalks off to rebuild his power and begin again, Megatron gloats that, with the Vok gone, he holds all the cards—and so long as Megatron still lives, the Beast Wars will never end!
Notes
Continuity notes
* Polar Claw and Saberback are among the many Cybertronians fighting the Maximals and Predacons despite both dying on-panel in issue #15. How they're back isn't really explained, but we can presume that either Tarantulas or the Vok had something to do with it.
* Rattrap notes that he used the information encoded on the Golden Disk to deduce the weakness of the Vok—he copied all the files on the Golden Disk during his heist on the Darksyde in issue #12, and Dinobot's speech in issue #10 revealed that the Golden Disk was saturated in transwarp energy as a result of moving backwards and forwards in time.
* As she fights the Children of the Vok, Skold laments that the new Cybertronians could've been like her late friend Razorbeast, who emerged on Earth in issue #10.
* When the Vok unveil their "energon-powered reversion device"—disguised as the largest floating mountain near the Predacon base—Tikaani notes that it still functions despite Cybertronian-induced damage. In issue #7, Terrorsaur and Waspinator mined some of the crystalline energon from its surface for their own use, and during the battle in issue #11 Terrorsaur killed Razorbeast by dropping him directly into the raw energon crystals and killing him. Indeed, the mountain is revealed to still sport a crater from that incident.
* After rematerializing in an abandoned cave, Megatron notes that he'll have to remember to overwrite his own message on the Golden Disk to preserve the timeline—as seen in issue #7, Megatron discovered a hidden, fragmentary message on the Golden Disk, apparently sent by his future self to warn him of some future event. Like a lot of other tidbits sprinkled throughout the Beast Wars ongoing, it seemed as though that scene would build up to something greater... but with the end of IDW's tenure on the Transformers license necessitating a premature and somewhat rushed conclusion, it seems as though the original story behind the message shall remain a mystery.
* Unbeknownst to Megatron, the cave contains one other occupant—a puddle in the cave shows the reflection of a buried stasis pod with a large "X" emblazoned on its hull. This is, presumably, the same pod that briefly appeared in issue #1, a reference to Rampage's twisted origin story as seen in the Beast Wars episode "Bad Spark"; if the Beast Wars are to continue, the Predacons might gain a powerful ally...

Transformers references
* The new Children of the Vok who appear in this issue are all made up of characters who debuted in the first two years of the original Beast Wars toyline. Given this bit of commonality, it's likely that the brightly colored crab is meant to be Razorclaw, in his 1998 toy colors, rather than the nigh-identical Beast Wars Neo character Rockbuster.
* To dispatch the zombie Terrorsaur, Rhinox finally busts out his famous "Chainguns of Doom", the dual-wielded gatling guns he used frequently in the cartoon.
*As their experiment falls apart, the Vok resort to planetary sterilization using an enormous "reversion device" implanted in one of the planet's floating mountains—recalling the infamous Planet Buster superweapon their cartoon counterparts used in the cartoon's first season finale. Indeed, upon revealing their weapon, Tonrar complains that they should've implanted the device on one of the planet's moons, and wonders if it's been tried in "another universe".
* So, was the planet prehistoric Earth, like in the original show? The final answer is unclear—in this universe, both of the planet's moons appear to be natural celestial bodies, while issue #9 implies that at least some of the planet's unnatural wildlife were either genetically modified or imported from other worlds, but issue #1 showed dinosaur and pterosaur fossils buried in its crust. Draw your own conclusions!

Other trivia
* In his farewell note, writer Erik Burnham lays out a number of potential storylines that didn't make it into the comic as a result of IDW's Transformers license expiring:
** Rattrap's habit of eating the planet's native fruit causes a glitch in his system, forcing the other Maximals to find a cure before it's too late.
** A rivalry develops between Scorponok and the new Predacon recruit Quickstrike, who plans on replacing him.
** The Maximals suspect that Rhinox might be a Predacon mole—likely tying into a scene from issue #4 in which the Maximals discovered that someone had used the Axalons systems to beam a secret message to the Predacons before leaving Cybertron.
** Blackarachnia takes over the Predacons while Megatron is indisposed, although Burnham notes that a truncated version of this plot did slip into this final issue.
** Burnham would've pushed for Grimlock and the other four Dinobots to show up in some capacity: perhaps building on a bit of dialogue from issue #6, when Primal noted that Grimlock and his comrades had mysteriously disappeared before the end of the Great War?
** In a followup to the events of this issue, Waspinator would join the Children of the Vok and renounce violence.
** The Tripredacus Council and the Maximal Elders would've aided in some capacity in the final battle against the Vok.
A new alien site and device are discovered, and Megatron intends to have both for himself.

Synopsis
Rhinox scans all the known alien sites, with Dinobot playing "back seat computer operator". Both notice a pattern, and Rhinox is concerned, as the next location looks like it is on course with Tigatron and Airazor's scout patrol. They try to alert the pair but are unable to due to Megatron's jamming tower. Dinobot announces he and Rattrap will go to destroy the tower. Rhinox informs the other Maximals of the danger Tigatron and Airazor are in, so the flyers set off to warn them.

Tarantulas is repairing his web in his lair, moaning to himself that no one will help him, as "they're all too busy helping Megatron, even that vile..." when he is interrupted by his computer alerting him to the presence of the aliens. He quickly transforms into his motorbike mode and races off.

In the Predacon base, Blackarachnia is nearly dozing off on scout duty, as "being loyal to Megatron sure is boring!" This doesn't please the purple guy much, as he happens to be eavesdropping. Suddenly, she notices Tarantulas on the scanners, zipping along at breakneck speed in Grid Vaxon. At the mention of the spider, Megatron reveals himself, accompanied by Inferno, and begins giving Blackarachnia orders, with Inferno enforcing his master's wishes. Blackarachnia suggests they follow Tarantulas to see what he's up to, but Megatron seems reluctant. Inferno then reports an attack on the jamming tower and asks if he should back up Waspinator and Quickstrike. Instead, Megatron reveals to the spider and Inferno that now is a prime time to get the Golden Disk back, with only Rhinox guarding the Axalon.

Tigatron and Airazor are patrolling when, to their delight and surprise, they see a hint of plant life in the form of a drifting seed. They continue to Grid Zeiram, where they discover a clearing full of plant life, an area of natural beauty that wasn't destroyed by the alien attack. Airazor is intrigued by the unique forms of vegetation, so she transforms to get a scan. BIG MISTAKE. Tigatron also transforms. BIG MISTAKE. They both seem to be overcome by it all, and share a brief romantic moment. But as the pair cuddle up, tendrils begin to snake up behind them, and suddenly, the two Maximals are entangled. Amidst their screams, they link hands, telling each other that their sparks will always find each other. As they are abducted, Cheetor flies up and tries to rescue them, but to no avail. He screams in protest as he realises he has lost them. As he bemoans the Maximals' inability to warn the abducted pair in time, Tarantulas pops up and blasts Cheetor, knocking him out cold. As Tarantulas begins to check out the site, he realises Optimus Primal is coming, so he retreats.

Optimus and Silverbolt land in the clearing, and Optimus gets Cheetor back online. He hurriedly asks what happened to Tigatron and Airazor, and Cheetor indicates the plant at fault for their disappearance. At this moment, Rattrap buzzes in, informing the Maximals that he and Dinobot have destroyed the jamming tower. (Actually, Dinobot is still landing a few final blows, which topple the tower on top of Quickstrike and Waspinator.) Upon learning about the fate of Tigatron and Airazor, all the Maximals head back to base, all deeply moved.

Optimus com-links Rhinox, who is also shocked by the news, but, being the cool cucumber that he is, goes straight back to scanning the alien abduction and notices two distorted figures in the beam: Tigatron and Airazor. Before he can investigate further, the base alerts go off, and he notices Megatron outside. Rhinox has no time for fun and games, so he literally brings out "the big guns." However, Megatron is merely acting as a diversion while Blackarachnia and Inferno sneak into the base and shut off the defense systems. Big Green realizes he's in trouble and desperately tries to get through to Optimus, but Inferno enters the room, swings Rhinox's chair up to the table, and puts him at gunpoint just as Optimus finally responds. Inferno offers a "Goodbye!" on Rhinox's behalf and simultaneously blasts Rhinox. Blackarachnia rushes for the disk, but Inferno is more hesitant: "The Royalty said we weren't to touch it until..." He is interrupted by Rhinox grabbing him and yanking him back to express his displeasure. Rhinox and Inferno start to rock 'n' sock each other with chin-punches, and Rhinox soon wins by popping Inferno's block off (or at least up). Blackarachnia grabs the disk, but Rhinox menaces her with "The Chaingun Of Doom." He barely has time to threaten her before Megatron appears behind him and lays verbal claim to the disk. Despite his fear, Rhinox quickly readies to smack Megatron in the face, but the Pred is too quick; he grabs Rhinox's hand in his claw, rips it off and sends him sprawling. Megatron grabs the disk, pushes Inferno's head back down, then takes his leave.

The Maximals make it back to the base, and Optimus re-attaches Rhinox's arm. The Maximals then have a council. Cheetor is still upset about Tigatron and Airazor, insisting they need to rescue those two. However, Dinobot says they need to stop Megatron before the aliens strike, to which Optimus agrees. They set off for the site where Tigatron and Airazor were abducted.

Megatron is back in the Darksyde, talking about the Golden Disk, but is interrupted by Tarantulas. The spider brags that he is no longer part of the Predacon command, but also reminds his ex-leader that he is Megatron's only chance of surviving the alien attack. Megatron allows Tarantulas to undertake his plan.

The Predacons head to the abduction site, where they go about ramming posts into the ground. Megatron questions Tarantulas's motives, but Tarantulas isn't telling. However, due to the fact they shared minds, Blackarachnia knows it is because he hates the aliens. Megatron doesn't mind, since hatred is an emotion he can trust. When the plan is complete, Megatron and Tarantulas have a brief laughing contest which is interrupted by Primal and the Maximals, who transform and prepare to attack. The Predacons also terrorize, ready for battle, when the aliens' beam comes down, causing a halt in the proceedings. All the Transformers stare on in amazement as a spaceship materializes in front of their very optics.

The top of the ship opens, releasing an energon surge, which blasts into everybody.

Notes
Script timeline
* Second draft: 26th August 1997

Animation and technical errors
*Near the beginning of the episode when Optimus is flying on his gorilla hoverboard, his blaster (which is his thruster in that mode) is pointed down, but there is still a visible jet of flame where it should be.
*During the Maximal group discussion about the alien device, Cheetor's cat head clips into his arm.
*When Quickstrike transforms at the end of the episode, the sound effect seems to be that of Scorponok's transformation sequence.
*As Megatron transforms into robot mode near the end of the episode, his dinosaur mouth remains closed when it should be open, even though the roar sound effect remains intact.

Continuity notes
* Blackarachnia mentions the mental link that she and Tarantulas once shared, which she managed to sever in "Tangled Web".
* Rhinox expresses ill feelings towards Dinobot for his actions during "Maximal, No More".
* Fittingly, many references are made to the Transformers' last encounter with the aliens. Both Rattrap and Blackarachnia refer to the alien's previous superweapon, while Optimus makes several references to the "truce" and his own death that occurred due to the last event.
* Gadgets and powers:
** Optimus carries around a... thing that he places on the unconscious Cheetor's chest in order to restore him to consciousness.

Real-world references
*The fight between Rhinox and Inferno ends with Rhinox socking Inferno so hard that his neck pops up, referencing Rock 'Em, Sock 'Em Robots.
*Waspinator says he's pinned like an "Iron Butterfly", referencing the 1960s psychedelic rock band that gave the world "In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida".

Trivia
* The original script called for the alien plant to lure Tigatron and Airazor in with a stasis pod containing a blank.

In case you didn't know, Airazor was made male for the Japanese dub of Beast Wars, but his relationship with Tigatron, up until now, was played platonically. Tigatron was dubbed as a comedic "samurai ronin" stereotype with Airazor being his young "ward" and the two shared a close bond that could be described as brotherly. Completely out of the blue at the beginning of this episode, with absolutely no build-up whatsoever in any of the previous episodes, Airazor begins amorously flirting with Tigatron, calling him petnames like "Ti-chan" and basically acting really, really gay. Tigatron responds to these flirtations with startled and embarrassed admonishments for Airazor to "knock it off" and "be quiet". Eventually, when they're both attacked by the vines, they share pretty much the same romantic dialogue as in the English version, expressing their love for one another. With their romantic relationship having not been established in any way prior to this episode, the "coming out" scene is incredibly random, awkward and bewildering.
The plans of both Megatron and the mysterious aliens are coming to a head as one of the two moons transforms.

Synopsis
In a flash of light, a power anomaly emerges from a wormhole above the planet and descends to the surface. The aliens have arrived.

Rhinox detects the arrival and alerts Optimus Primal, who hopes the truce is still holding. He flies off to meet Airazor and Rattrap at the landing site located in Grid Trion.

Tarantulas is programming his stolen transwarp cell, when Blackarachnia pays him another visit. She tells him she can get them inside the Maximal base to steal a stasis pod. Megatron monitors the entire discussion between the two spiders and sends Waspinator to the location the aliens are anticipated to arrive at.

Rattrap and Airazor reach the site, which is a large circular plaza of stone, pulsing with energy and containing a stable energon crystal. When Airazor tries to scan it, it zaps her, blasts Rattrap away, and engulfs the entire site inside an organic dome-like structure with Airazor inside

Airazor awakens inside the "nutty alien bungalow", where a garbled alien voice speaks to her. She assures the aliens she means them no harm, but they have no such compunctions and painfully scan her until she converts to beast mode. After the scan ends, they are left with one word of information: "Cybertron".

Outside, Waspinator arrives to "secure the area", but Rattrap drives him off with a vigorous bout of fisticuffs.

Optimus Primal arrives and surveys the situation. Rattrap's efforts to use a laser to cut through the dome structure are ineffective. Megatron then arrives with Terrorsaur and Scorponok. He mocks Optimus for thinking that simple laser could get through the structure, commenting that the aliens can "create energon itself". He then has Scorponok fire a "toxic sting" that eats through the structure. Primal and Rattrap venture inside; Rattrap drags the semi-conscious Airazor out, while Primal stays to confront the aliens. A series of whip-like metal tentacles ensnare him and lift him up into an agonizing scanning grid.

Tarantulas and Blackarachnia have made their way to the Maximal base, where Blackarachnia activates a device that creates a small opening in the shields. The spiders move in, unaware that they are being followed by Inferno, who notes that they're up to no good and develops his own entry by digging a tunnel below ground.

Rattrap pulls Airazor out through Scorponok's opening just before it self-seals, to find himself facing Predacon guns. The truce is over.

Optimus Primal's scan ends, and to address him, the aliens (having no form he could comprehend) take the form of a "figure of authority"—the head of Unicron. The aliens tell him that the Transformers have contaminated their experiment, which will be "sterilized". Primal pleads for a chance to fix the damage, and for the lives of the planet's native creatures, but the aliens are dismissive, citing greater dangers unknown to Primal. The conversation ends with the aliens activating a "termination sequence".

The alien construct begins to pulse with building energy. The distraction proves enough for Rattrap and Airazor to overpower the Predacons. With renewed urgency, Optimus Primal breaks his bonds and flies right through the dome; the Maximals beat a hasty retreat—as the dome bursts open, spewing a directed geyser of energy into the sky. The energy activates hidden systems on the second moon, burning away its earthen surface to reveal an endless grid of weapon-like emplacements that begin powering up. The moon itself begins to change its shape, and the alien energies cause the orbiting stasis pods to tumble out of orbit.

Rhinox observes all this at the Maximal base, taking measures to track what's happening even as the sensors begin to fritz out. Thus engaged, he doesn't see the spiders coming up behind him till it's too late. Dinobot is likewise gunned down in short order. Staring at Rhinox's displays, Blackarachnia wonders what they're looking at, to which Tarantulas replies: "The beginning... of the end."

"It is too late. You and your enemies have already contaminated the project. The harm has been done. That which does not become part of the one—shall become void."<br />
* Second draft: 5th November 1996
* Finalised: 11th November 1996
* As Air: 22nd March 1997

Animation and technical errors
*When Waspinator announces to Rattrap that he's securing the area, his insect wings are missing (though you can still hear the buzzing). They pop back into existence as he transforms into robot mode.

Continuity errors
*Tarantulas and Blackarachnia's plan to bypass Sentinel, sneak into the Axalon, and then modify and reprogram a stasis pod on the fly while squatting in enemy camp seems to have one glaring oversight: Don't the Predacons already possess a functional stasis pod? The one Blackarachnia herself arrived in?

Continuity notes
* This episode heavily follows on from where the status quo was left last episode... everyone is still worried about the imminent arrival of the aliens, the Maximals and Predacons currently have a truce, Waspinator is being repaired after Tarantulas blew him up, and Tarantulas himself is actively trying to escape the planet for reasons that will shortly become clear.
* Back in "The Trigger, Part 1", Rhinox observed that one of the moons was lighter than it should be, suggesting that it wasn't a natural celestial body.
* This is the first of several episodes centered on the aliens, all with "Other V*"-styled titles: "Other Voices", "Other Visits", "Other Victories".
*"Scan complete, this is the specimen we analyzed before."—The Vok previously analyzed Optimus in "Chain of Command".
* While fighting Waspinator, Rattrap pulls off the same beast mode rolling-maneuver he used back in "Call of the Wild".
* This is the first time we've seen the original Golden Disk since the first episode. Perhaps Megatron has finally realised what planet they have actually landed on...
* Gadgets and powers:
** Rattrap carries a cutting laser in his arm compartments.
** Scorponok's stingers are venomous, allowing him to blow a hole in the Bio-Dome.

Transformers references
*Unicron is, of course, originally from "The Transformers: The Movie". The Vok's Unicron hologram is solely a visual reference, and is not meant to suggest any connection between the aliens and Unicron. The Vok mention that they learned about Unicron from Optimus's datatrax, suggesting that not all information about the Great War was sealed away by the Maximal Elders.
*The Unicron hologram's statement "That which does not become part of the one—shall become void" may be a reference to Unicron's quote from The Transformers Universe: "That which does not become a part of me shall become one with the great void." It might also be a twisted reference to a certain Autobot mantra, which wouldn't be the first or last of such references.

Real-world references
*While rescuing Airazor from the alien structure, and arguing whether to leave Optimus Primal behind or not, Rattrap misquotes two lines from Alfred, Lord Tennyson's 1854 poem, "The Charge of the Light Brigade", changing them slightly for the occasion.

Trivia
*The Vok claim that "there is more danger than you know", suggesting that the destruction of the Earth is necessary to forestall some greater threat. This idea was never touched on again. They likewise claim that their true forms are incomprehensible, although later episodes would also ignore this statement.
* Terrorsaur is strangely quiet in this episode, not even crying out when he gets shot by Rattrap. (On the other hand, Dinobot is on screen for less time but <i>does</i> get to speak one whole word: "Invaders!")
*In a line originally in the script but not included in the episode, Rattrap described the Bio-Dome as "creepier than Crystal City on Constructicon day."
* The start of the audio commentary for this episode with fan consultant Ben Yee and story editor Larry DiTillio on the Madman Entertainment Beast Wars Season 1 DVD is almost inaudible. As Larry DiTillio is trying to explain something, something happens that is very difficult to make out, with Ben Yee suggesting they start over.
*Bob Forward has said this was originally meant to be a 4-parter but the plans were changed at the last minute—"Apparently anything more than a two-parter is too hard to schedule". Despite his comments, this episode follows on almost directly from Before the Storm (as noted above). This ability to link episodes together without making them explicit two-parters will become more and more common over the next two seasons.
*After Waspinator is defeated by Rattrap, he has exactly the voice you'd expect from someone who's been kicked in the nards.
*At the beginning of the episode, Tarantulas has a series of purple bars and a series of red bars on a computer screen. In Cybertronix, they are labeled "bass" and "treble".
* This is the last multi-parter to feature a "Next time on Beast Wars" segment (which is probably for the best, as this one basically spoils the final moments of the next episode).
**In the French dub of the episode, in the "Next time on Beast Wars" segment, Megatron's last phrase "I rather like these aliens" is replaced by "I love suspense". However, the accurate translation is used in the next episode for the same scene.

IDW comics continuity
Goldbug and the Throttlebots were assigned to Orvus Base, orbiting Salvvatan VI, to safeguard top-secret Autobot research. Their purpose was to act as couriers in case the lab came under threat, taking the data and keeping it out of enemy hands. They had no idea what the research actually was, but that wasn't deemed essential to their job. And indeed, when an attack did come in the form of Sixshot, the Throttlebots were the only ones who made it out of the station alive, the information in their sole possession. They crashed on the planet below and quickly rushed for cover, Sixshot hot on their trail.

What they found on the planet was a strangely unoccupied, Cybertronian-style city with energon reserves. But just as they were powering up, Sixshot caught up with them and demanded the information. Goldbug suggested that they might not have the information at all, then asked him if he would torture them in that case. Sixshot said he would, so Goldbug ordered the Throttlebots to scatter.

Sixshot quickly took down half the team, even as they tried to feint and counterattack. The remaining three bantered with Sixshot and then attacked him, the battle taking them into a strange chamber where an "intruder alert" alarm began to blare. There, Sixshot shot Goldbug point-blank in the chest, and his remaining two comrades fared little better.

But just as Sixshot was about to execute Searchlight, the city around them awakened. A giant fist smashed Sixshot, followed by a similarly-proportioned foot. Goldbug and his two companions gaped in awe at the transformed Metroplex, who declared his own position compromised and announced that he was going to leave and hide again. He told them where to find a shuttle and supplies, but Goldbug was indignant, asking him what kind of Autobot would abandon the dying Throttlebots. Metroplex replied that he wept for them, but his mission was more important, and with that, he left.

Rollbar and Searchlight, the latter carrying Goldbug, began walking back to recover their teammates. As they pondered how important Metroplex's mission must be and how lonely he surely is, the battered Sixshot stirred... Spotlight: Metroplex
Jhiaxus is no ordinary Decepticon. He and his faction left Cybertron eons ago and formed a Cybertronian empire of cyberformed planets. He views the original Autobots and Decepticons as evolutionary throwbacks, simple animals, insults to his race's memory which must be wiped out. But his ice-cold demeanor of control and amoral objectivity is merely a facade. It is only a mask, a face he wears to forget the mad tyrant he once was. He has been repressing this side of himself, burying it, for millennia. Unfortunately, recent encounters with Autobots and Decepticons have been testing his resolve...

Jhiaxus is not one for improvisation. He has been denying his impulses for so long, it has weakened his ability to think on his feet in many situations. Once Jhiaxus has set a course of action, it is tough for him to diverge from his strategy.

Millions of years ago, some time after Optimus Prime and Megatron left Cybertron and crashed on Earth, Jhiaxus was born through the long-forgotten "budding" means of reproduction. The Power and the Glory At first a cruel and petty tyrant ruled by his irrational desires, Jhiaxus learned slowly to bury this part of himself beneath layers of icy control. Primal Fear! Tired of the Autobot/Decepticon conflict, Jhiaxus left his budded brethren into space, determined to begin a new Cybertronian Empire free of the war waged by those he deemed "evolutionary throwbacks". War Without End! He was anointed the rank Liege Centuro of this new Cybertronian empire by the Liege Maximo, A Rage in Heaven! and Jhiaxus began to wipe out inferior life and terraform their conquered worlds.

A decade after Optimus Prime and Megatron's war had restarted on Earth, Prime and his Autobots found out about this empire while pursuing the remnants of Bludgeon's Decepticons across the universe. Quickly thereafter, Jhiaxus's ship, the Twilight, abducted them and delighted in telling Prime and Grimlock that for his side of the universe, the war had been over for millions of years and that Prime and his adversaries were embarrassments to him. Jhiaxus hoped that Prime would see the error of his ways, but he escaped in a stolen ship with his fellow Autobots. However, Jhiaxus had launched a ship of his own to follow them. War Without End!

Jhiaxus traced the Autobots to the K'Tord Nebula, and his Cybertronians battled Prime's bitterly on the surface of one of its planets. Parasitic creatures on the planet began to feed on the hate and fury buried in the minds of both sides, which caused Jhiaxus to revert back to the barbaric version of himself he thought he'd long buried. Despite Prime's own problems with the parasites' induced rage, he was able to convince Jhiaxus and their respective warriors to stop fighting and go their separate ways. Primal Fear! Jhiaxus retreated to his flagship, and thanked the maker that, as far as he knew, there were no Decepticons left of the original generation to cause him further conflict. Sadly, he was misinformed. Old Evils

When Grimlock and a bloodthirsty group of Autobots tried to sneak a Chaosmaster Bomb on board the Twilight, Jhiaxus easily saw through their ruse. He shipped the survivors in a prison ship to be examined by the Liege Maximo, but the ship was intercepted by Optimus Prime. Devices and Desires! (Marvel) Later, Jhiaxus made a visit to New, a recently conquered planet the Cybertronian Empire was busy eco-structuring into a Cybertron-like planet. Though the process was ahead of schedule, Jhiaxus was still disappointed. The Autobots had mysteriously halted their attacks on his empire, and their absence worried him. The Power and the Glory

One of his teams crossed paths with the original-generation Decepticons, and the incident ended badly. Jhiaxus decided to make his move, and ordered a full-scale attack on Megatron's Warworld near Tykos. This altercation resulted in casualties in Megatron's forces while Jhiaxus battled Megatron himself in orbit. Jhiaxus relished condescending to his opponent, an act reinforced by his superior might. He shot Megatron out of orbit, leaving him for dead on the moon's surface. New Dawn However, Megatron miraculously survived, and his Decepticons and the Autobots forged an uneasy alliance against the Cybertronian Empire. Increasingly frustrated, he vowed to escalate his galactic efforts, ordering that every planet be stripped of life. He hoped to force the hand of the original generation Transformers and overwhelm them, a plan that nearly worked on Ethos against the Autobots until Decepticon reinforcements arrived. Escalation! Indeed, the battle there decimated the best of Jhiaxus's forces. But Jhiaxus soon gained an unexpected advantage—Starscream sold out the location of the original generation's base of operations in exchange for a high-ranking position. Swarm (issue)

Jhiaxus attacked the base on Earth. Tales of Earth Part Six The headquarters itself was quickly destroyed, but Optimus and Megatron's troops fought back strongly and met the challenge equally. Jhiaxus wanted to end the conflict here and then, so he called for reinforcements from every corner of his Empire. Total War! Adding insult to injury, Jhiaxus was informed that his troops had lost the Warworld to the backstabbing Starscream. Jhiaxus lost his composure, and when he tossed his subordinate, Rook, in anger, Rook arranged a trip to the Liege Maximo. Jhiaxus returned to the Twilight, and upon receiving a transmission from Optimus Prime onboard the Warworld, he acted upon his anger by targeting a random spot on the Earth with nuclear weapons. Before Jhiaxus could order another shot, the Twilight was knocked away by a blast from the Warworld and the Swarm arrived. Dark Shadows!

Despite his officers' pleas to withdraw, Jhiaxus's troops were ordered to stay their ground even as the Swarm ate its way through them effortlessly. Optimus Prime, ever trying to reach a solution, arrived on the Twilight to talk, but Jhiaxus would not have it. He threw Prime around, powered by his increasing rage, and blamed him for how his life, his empire, had disintegrated. Before he could strike the final blow, however, the Swarm broke through the bridge of the Twilight, and Jhiaxus challenged it. Jhiaxus was consumed. A Rage in Heaven!
This bias forces him to work alone.

While still abducted by Unicron, Jhiaxus was kept locked inside one of the chambers within the Cauldron and periodically forced to combat other Transformers so that Unicron could feed on the loser's Spark. {{note|IDW's Jhiaxus has a much different origin than the original. Jhiaxus was Nova Prime's chief theoretical strategist and pioneer of attempts to push forward the Transformer race, as as well as a mentor to Shockwave. Spotlight: Doubledealer

He pioneered gestalt technology, bonding six Transformers into one combined entity to create an ultimate Transformer - resulting in an insane murdering monster that eventually was imprisoned in a dimensional prison by Omega Supreme. Spotlight: Optimus Prime Jhiaxus also was behind the introduction of gender to the Cybertronian genome, produced by his tampering with the CNA of Arcee. This had the slight side effect of turning her into an insane murdering monster. Spotlight: Arcee

Despite this slight pattern to his results, he remained in Nova Prime's inner circle and was part of the crew aboard the original Ark spacecraft, which was subsequently was lost in the Benzuli Expanse. Now stuck in the Dead Universe (only able to leave for brief periods before dying), Jhiaxus became a confidant for the rechristened Nemesis Prime and plotted on a plan to merge the Dead Universe with the regular one, allowing them to go home and gain power over the combined reality.

Jhiaxus began prepping Nega-Cores on three worlds, which would enable this universal "Expansion". Spotlight: Arcee He also set up an underground base on Gorlam Prime, where a large portal to/from the Dead Universe resided; he then began poking Gorlam Prime's evolution with a stick, accelerating the development to an advanced technological race with the end result of turning them into tiny Transformers. These were the template for what all life would be turned into to survive the Expansion, and the first few batches served as guards and general minions. On the eve of the Expansion, Jhiaxus told Nemesis Prime that he suspected Galvatron of having his own agenda, The point would become moot, however, once their plans unfurled. Devastation issue 6 After Cyclonus secured the Nega-Core and activated its guardian, Jhiaxus initiated the Expansion with Nemesis Prime and the rest of the Dead Universe crew. Spotlight: Cyclonus

Jhiaxus was in mental control of the three guardians of the Nega-Cores Spotlight: Doubledealer, and also took mental control over Nightbeat and sent in hordes of Micromasters when the Autobot, alongside Hardhead, began investigating on Gorlam Prime. Unfortunately, his intricate and long-plotted strategy was undermined by Hardhead's "shoot people in the head" plan. The Autobot then leapt into the Dead Universe portal. Spotlight: Hardhead

He also monitored the Autobots' efforts to withstand their attacks. When he noticed Jetfire preparing to disrupt his mental control over the guardians, he took mental control of Bludgeon to defend the project. Spotlight: Doubledealer

Unfortunately, as Jetfire pointed out, the Autobots were quickly destroying all his hard work, and his attention was divided. So much so that he not only was frozen and distracted from offing Jetfire, he didn't realise someone was in his control room until they sliced off his arm. Turning round, he was faced with a gleeful Arcee.

Making a run for it, and using his Micromasters to keep Arcee busy, he made his escape through the portal... or he would have if an undead Hardhead hadn't popped up, slowing Jhiaxus down enough for Arcee to stab him and cut off his head. But, in the realm between the living and dead universes, Jhiaxus was practically immortal. Which meant Arcee could keep killing him for as long as she liked.

He didn't seem to be pleased about this. Spotlight: Sideswipe
: Jhiaxus is a redeco of the deluxe-sized Jetstorm toy in orange and gray. His jet-mode cockpit has a spring-loaded extension, giving him a bird-like head in this form that is articulated at the neck to "search" for targets. Both jet and robot modes feature spring-loaded "energy blast" missiles. He also has an alternate robot mode, which folds his legs into a "flight cone" and reveals jet thrusters.

: This mold was also used for Sonic Attack Jet, Robots in Disguise Storm Jet, and Universe Skywarp.
* Jhiaxus's name is a pun on "gee, axe us", a phrase which expressed writer Simon Furman's dread of the G2 comic's cancellation by Marvel.
* Generation 2 Jhiaxus's robot mode design seems to be based loosely on the Seekers. He keeps the air-duct boobs, the cockpit torso, the ear-vents, the wing placement, one shoulder-mounted jet engine (including Starscream's stickers), and a nosecone on the back of the head.
* In the IDW continuity, Jhiaxus' obsession with improving the Cybertronian form has led to him altering even his own body. This has resulted in a chassis that strongly resembles an entirely different Starscream.
Headmaster
Headmasters are a type of symbiotic variation on the Transformer lifeform where a smaller sentient being, frequently but not exclusively organic, transforms into the head of a larger robot. The process by which this is accomplished varies by continuity. In conversation, the term "Headmaster" can apply to both the primary partner (the head), and their significant other (the body).

Headmaster bonding in most continuities occurs between two sentient beings, but there have been cases where the head (such as Cerebros in the G1 Cartoon) or the body (such as the Transtectors in the Japanese anime, or the Sunstreaker clones in the IDW comics) are non-sentient constructs controlled entirely by the other partner.

When it occurs between two sentient beings, the benefits of the Headmaster procedure are many: the partner gains control of a larger, more powerful body, and the Transformer gains an extra perspective on the battlefield, the psychic Binary bonding involved allowing him to draw on both his own ideas, tactics, and instincts as well as those of his partner as quickly as if they were coming from his own head (since they are).

Fiction
Marvel Comics
The Headmaster technology was primarily the invention of the Nebulan scientist Arcana and was designed originally to let Nebulans utilize the bodies of Autobots to defend their world (something they did not trust the Autobots enough to let them do on their own.)

In this continuity all Headmaster partnerships seen are human/nebulan-Transformer. The organic half of the pair is able to transform by use of a special suit of Headmaster armor and a control helmet that interfaces with bio-cybernetic augmentation in the surgically altered humanoid. It IS possible for an organic to control/communicate with the larger robots form with only the control helmet even if they have not undergone the binary bonding/augmentation process to let them transform into a head and likewise an altered/binary bonded organic remains permanently psychically connected to his partner regardless of whether he retains the helmet or armor.

The main weakness in the design comes from conflicts of personality. Since there was never meant to be an equal partnership in the original Headmaster concept, very little attention was paid to how the Transformer and their partner would interact during the original bonding. As the prototypes of the binary bonding idea, the Headmasters suffered from a lack of knowledge on how important this interaction would be. Many early Headmasters simply did not get along with their own bodies, and vice-versa. Because of this, partners would often disagree or be at odds with each other, resulting in confusion in the Transformer as the voices in his head had extended arguments over what to do. Depending on the compatibility and personalities of the partners their minds tend to merge to different extents and their joint psyche manifests in unique ways for each individual. (For instance, in the comic, Spike and Fort Max were two separate minds sharing one body, with each dominant in their own form and the other submissive, while Lord Zarak and Scorponok seemed to reach some sort of fusion where he was both beings merged into one. A similar situation developed between Optimus Prime and Hi-Q.)

(Note: this was not an unexpected problem for the Transformers. Early combiner teams had similar issues, with the resulting gestalt being much simpler and less intelligent than the sum of its parts, often because the parts did not get along. However, since the Nebulans failed to ask before starting the Headmaster plan, they were not able to avoid this problem)

Headmaster partners are unique amongst their brethren (the Targetmasters and Powermasters) in that they have the power to take full control over the body they are connected to, often against that Transformer's will. However, over time, both the Headmasters and their Transformer partners realized that they worked better when both sides had a say in things (two heads being better than one), and the relationship between them evolved from master/slave into a more equal partnership. In that cooperation lies the real strength of the Headmaster process.

Generation 1 Cartoon
In this Cartoon the Headmaster process seems much less invasive for the organic humanoid involved. No surgical alteration is apparently needed on their part and the process seems to consist mainly of altering the Transformers head to 1) have a control center for a partner to sit at inside and 2) to transform around the partner into a fancy exo-suit. While some who have undergone it have commented at feeling a closer bond there is no reason to believe there is any true psychic connection between them as in the binary bonding of other continuities.

Japanese animated continuity
Attempting to escape the wars on Cybertron, a group of diminutive Cybertronians (most of them only a little larger than human beings) fled the planet, only to have their ship crash on the hazardous, inhospitable planet Master. The need for survival fostered several technological advances (helped in part by technology derived from a time-traveling spaceship that crashed on the planet sometime later), chief among them the creation of "Transtectors," large, lifeless robot bodies that the smaller robots could connect to and control. The small Cybertronians had not yet actually mastered the art of transformation, however, and had to undergo rigorous mental and physical training in order to become "Headmasters" (their name, obviously enough, derived from the planet itself).

The Headmasters subsequently migrated from Master and joined the Autobot and Decepticon forces on Cybertron and Earth, leading to an lengthy conflict that ultimately resulted in both factions departing the Earth for a prolonged period of time. With all easy access to Earth cut off, leaving it's safety in doubt should it be attacked by Decepticons in the future, the Autobots on Master created Master-Braces, technology that harnessed the mysterious Chokon Power to transform humans and allow them to connect to Transtectors and become Headmasters themselves. A set of six Master-Braces and Transtectors were dispatched to Earth, but half the shipment was stolen by Decepticons, and both factions subsequently used the technology to turn three young human children in Headmasters in defense of Earth.

Cybertronian Headmasters possess numerous energy-manipulating superpowers. They are able to freely exchange Transtectors with their fellow Headmasters to increase their power levels, and can link up with each other in the Head Formation for various destruction results. In contrast, human Headmasters do not possess any of these powers, but have their own natural physical strength and reflexes enhanced many times over by the energies filling their body. Their cellular structures undergo some form of ill-defined holistic transformation which allows them to somehow transform their actual, physical bodies into heads. However, unlike organic Headmasters in other continuities, they do not have to undergo any permanent alteration - they are capable of "turning off" their powers and becoming normal human beings with ease, the only drawback being that they are unable to remove the Master-Braces that give them their powers.

Dreamwave comics
Though only glimpsed in profile art the Headmaster heads here seem to be larger "mecha" that the human partners pilot.

Energon Cartoon
IDW Comics continuity
The Headmaster technology is a product of the shadowy organization known as the Machination, possibly using technology developed by Scorponok on the planet Nebulos. Following a tip offered to him by Swindle, Ultra Magnus found schematics for enhancing a biological entity with Cybertronian technology, in effect producing a "transformable man." Magnus was able to determine that Nebulan businessman Mo Zarak had been subjected to this process, shortly before Scorponok fled the premises.

Soon after, the Machination captured Sunstreaker and Hunter O'Nion. They dismantled Sunstreaker, and subjected Hunter to an extensive regimen of surgery and implants. Subsequently they attempted to brainwash him into one of their soldiers. Thus far, all Headmasters in the IDW technology have been non-sentient, guided by their human pilots. As well, all of them have been replicas of Sunstreaker.

Limitations
Without their head, a Transformer Headmaster is at a severe disadvantage. Most Autobots and Decepticons are shown entering a kind of stasis lock when their heads disconnect from their robot modes, often seeming sluggish and able to perform only the most basic of functions. In their alternate modes, however, a Headmaster seems no different from any other Transformer: if, perhaps, a little more dangerous. With another intelligent being to help with the task of driving, flying, or shooting, the Headmaster is able to focus more clearly on tactics, strategy, or just the task at hand, freeing up considerable processing power from more mundane requirements. This makes a Headmaster capable of extreme multi-tasking and amazingly rapid decision-making, if the two partners have similar attitudes and mindsets.

A hologram is an artificially created image using photons arranged in a manner to better display information...or trick people, depending on the situation at hand.

Fiction
Generation 1 cartoon
The Autobot Hound often made use of holograms. While on guarding Ravage with Mirage, Hound came up with the idea to use a hologram to trick the Decepticons and lead them into an ambush. Optimus Prime agreed, and Ravage was allowed to escape, believing he had learned of a military base with large amounts of rocket fuel. Megatron, however, saw through Ravage's escape, sending the Decepticons to the real base, while he went with a group of shoddy constructions to rub it in Prime's face. The hologram of the base worked just fine, though... More Than Meets the Eye, Part 3

Shockwave was using a holographic projector to train with Sentinel drones when the Combaticons arrived and attacked them. Later, Shockwave and Starscream used the holographic projector to create various images of hostiles. This successfully distracted the Combaticons for some time, until Swindle discovered that their attackers were holograms. The Combaticons aren't really smart. That's why they let Onslaught do all the thinking. The Revenge of Bruticus

IDW comics continuity
Recognizing that the Autobots lack of drivers would attract attention, they used Holomatter avatars to avoid detection. However, security measures can be devised specifically to detect holomatter, showing that organizations such as the Machination already anticipated Cybertronian interference.

Beast Wars/Beast Machines
By the Beast Era, holograms were in more wide scale use, including such things as entertainment and military use. The Axalon and the Darksyde both made extensive use of hologram technology to run simulations and observe events in real time. On Cybertron, there were holo-chips which allowed Transformers to interface with them and see things virtually&mdash;some of which were not always virtous, if you get our meaning. Sparkwar Part 2: The Search.

Movie
After introducing the Autobots, Optimus Prime showed Sam Witwicky and Mikaela Banes a hologram of the devastation Cybertron suffered during the war with Megatron. The Decepticons also made use of holograms, using a single, mustached male as a display to avoid attracting attention. Oddly enough the Decepticon holograms appear to have solid machinery underneath them, but when activated they appear to be a projection with nothing under the surface.

Starscream pleads to Galvatron, hoping to convince his leader that the threat of Unicron is real (as Starscream has first hand experience in the beast's bowels) and that perhaps an Alliance between the Autobots and Decepticons is the safest course to ensure the survival of Cybertron. When Starscream refuses to stop pleading, Galvatron slaps his subordinate into a wall to silence him. The Decepticon leader is confident his military can overcome both the Autobots and Unicron. Starscream continues to stress the danger of Unicron, and Galvatron starts to swing his Star Saber.

The Autobots are still optimustic, believing there's a chance a diplomatic conference could lead to a truce between the two sides. Which means the Autobots can't take aggressive action against the Decepticons, only defensive. Megatron, armed with the Star Saber and Tidal Wave, flies into battle, ready to negotiate with Prime using firepower. Prime responds by combining with Jetfire and Overload and heading away from the thick of the battle.

By a monolithic statue of Megatron, Starscream wonders who is he is and what he needs to do. Alexis' words of encouragement run through his head.

Away from the armies, Galvatron and Optimus send their men away, leaving the two leaders to battle one on one. Through the battle, Galvatron admits that he still considers Unicron to be an Autobot hoax, and with the Star Saber, he has the upper hand against Prime. As soon as Megatron breaks Prime's metal, an explosion disturbs the showdown. Starscream walks from the smoke.

The rest of the Autobots are struggling to hold their ground, unable to cause any real damage to the Decepticons. Alexis has faith that things will be okay. Thousands of miles away, Unicron's lunar shell peels off and the behemoth attacks the assembled Mini-Con cluster.

Starscream quits the Decepticons and challenges Galvatron to one-on-one combat. The two clash, quickly cutting into each other. Starscream displays a show of skill beyond last time he battles Megatron. Lightning from Unicron carves into the landscape, but the two warriors ignore the weather and continue their stuggle. But in an instant, the Star Sabre plunges into Starscream's torso, the impaled Decepticon falls.

Lying with the blade sticking out of him, Starscream speaks earnestly to Galvatron, pointing out that it was Megatron's own arrogance that drove the situation to be what it is. Despite his injury, Starscream stands up and reiterates his wishes for a truce between the two Cybertronian factions against Unicron. His final wish said, Starscream joins with his Mini-Con to fire his Proton-canons upwards at Unicron. Unicron fires back, disintegrating Starscream.

Galvatron remembers all the experiences he had with Starscream, and finally decides to join forces with Optimus.... BUT from the crater Starscream died in, a dark cloud emerges and grabs the Star Saber! The cloud forms into Sideways, who escapes the two leaders and escapes through the underground portal, making sure to collapse them so he can't be followed.

Aboard the Axalon, Alexis's luck charm shatters, she runs outside to look out the window to just see Starscream's laser blast fade away. Hearing news of Starscream's death over the video screen, Alexis breaks into tears. Rad does his best to console her.

Starscream: "I tried to gain favour from you. But nothing was ever good enough. No matter how many battles I fought, you always found fault. ==Notes==
* Optimus calls Starscream's Mini-Con Swindle instead of Zapmaster. So logically this means that Swindle received a color-change like Starscream did (instead of Starscream exchanging his Mini-Con for a new one in different colors).

:Ironhide is an Autobot from the Movie continuity family, also sometimes known as the "Tooth Fairy".

Ironhide is the Autobot's resident weapons specialist and Optimus Prime's old friend. He is old because he is hard. He's probably had enough replacement parts to build a small army, but Ironhide doggedly refuses to roll over and die for anyone. He'll fight to the bitter end and take down more than his fair share of Decepticons in the process.

Ironhide doesn't always see optic to optic with Prime, despite their friendship. He's perhaps the more practical of the two, and more than a little trigger happy, so he can be more willing to push to Autobot code to the limit if he thinks it will get the job done faster.

He has more guns than a smaller third-world country.
:Voice actor: Jess Harnell (English)

Responding to Bumblebee's call for assistance, Ironhide and the other Autobots under Optimus Prime's direct command came to Earth, with the old soldier landing in a suburban pool. As he climbed out of the water, a little human girl asked him if he was the tooth fairy before he quickly hid behind some trees when the child's parents exited the house. He scanned their GMC Topkick truck and transformed, leaving the residence.

After meeting Sam Witwicky and Mikaela Banes, Ironhide displayed an eagerness to show off his cannons. Going to the Witwicky residence, Ironhide was urinated upon by a rodent. This unpleasant situation was made worse by Sam Witwicky's refusal to let him shoot it. He also suggested shooting the parents, as they were interfering with Sam's search for Captain Witwicky's glasses. Optimus reminded him that they don't hurt humans, and scolded his weapons expert, to which Ironhide responded that he merely thought it should remain an option.

After Sam, Mikaela and his parents were captured by Sector Seven, Ironhide and the other Autobots totally outclassed the S7 agents by instantly disarming them of their weapons, then rescuing the boy and his girl. Unfortunately, their escape was to be short-lived as Bumblebee was captured by the mysterious agents after saving Sam and Mikaela's lives. The next morning, when Optimus Prime was pondering their next move, Ironhide asked why they had to save the humans, prompting Prime to go into one of his long speeches about freedom and sacrifice, concluding that the humans need not pay for the mistakes of Cybertron-kind, and if need be, he would destroy the All Spark by fusing it with his own spark. Inspired by his words, Ironhide debated no further and the Autobots out for the location of the All Spark, Hoover Dam. Half-way there, to their surprise they see Bumblebee leading a column of Sector Seven assault vehicles, so Ironhide and the rest of the Autobots join the unit.

During the final battle at Mission City, Ironhide realized that the F-22 Raptor that appeared to be providing Captain Lennox's troops with air cover was in fact Starscream. With Bumblebee's help, he lifted a discarded truck full of Furby toys to protect the humans against Starscream's missiles. Soon afterwards, Brawl attacked, forcing Ironhide to do several somersaults to avoid the Decepticon's missiles and totally scare the crap out of a lady sitting in the middle of the street.

Ironhide and Ratchet took it upon themselves to protect Sam as he made his way his way to a rooftop where he could pass the All Spark to a military helicopter. Unfortunately Starscream blocked off Sam's path, prompting the Autobot guardians to immediately engage the more powerful Decepticon. After being knocked down, Ironhide implored Sam to keep running.

After the destruction of Megatron and the All Spark, Ironhide somberly cradled the body of the fallen Jazz while Ratchet informed Optimus Prime that there was nothing they could do. Ironhide then gave Captain Lennox a ride home, and spent the remainder of the day observing Sam and Mikaela making out on the hood of Bumblebee's vehicle mode.

:Voice actor: Mark Ryan

Brief aside with Optimus Prime reveals Ironhide's actions may have resulted in the destruction of a small planet at one point. Ironhide maintains that it was going to blow up anyway. Strangely, Ironhide uses only his right cannon. But when fighting Ironhide, he uses both. Ironhide is such a gun nut that he even uses it in his melee attacks.
:Ironhide transforms into a modified black 2006 GMC Topkick 4500 four-wheel drive pickup truck. The two exhaust smokestacks behind the rear cabin have been shortened from the real scaled length and the prototype due to safety and durability reasons, but otherwise the vehicle mode is very accurate to the real prop truck... well, aside from the fact Ironhide's massive missile launchers are quite visible underneath the vehicle.

:Ironhide features an Automorph gimmick in his legs during transformation: As the user swings down his feet, all of the panels that make up his legs automatically shift and fold into place. This gimmick does not affect Ironhide's articulation. The instructions omit the exact positioning of the roof panels and rear window on his back, confusingly. Except it doesn't tell you how to fold the rear window.

:In robot mode, Ironhide is quite accurate to his CGI design, though obviously simplified for toy practicality. Contrary to appearances, he features full standard up-down and lateral shoulder articulation, as well as articulation in his elbows, hips and knees. His arm-mounted cannons are inactive while mounted on both arms. However, detaching the left arm cannon and combining it with the right arm creates a huge functional missile launcher that is almost as big as Ironhide himself. The missile launching mechanism itself isn't the typical spring-loaded button design, instead relying on a pressure-launch system to fire the missiles from the four barrels.

Sadly, installing a grumpy trigger-happy alien robot and deadly high-tech weaponry into the works is not part of the included modifications.

Transformer toys can change from one form to another thanks to the brilliance of Hasbro and TakaraTomy's engineers and designers.

Types of Transformation
Beast Transformation
Because many beasts have four limbs, and most Transformer robots have four limbs, beast-to-robot transformations are sometimes not more complicated than "stand up and switch heads". For most incarnations of Cheetor, for example, the beast rear legs are the robot legs, and the beast front legs are the robot arms. (Transmetal Cheetor is an exception.) The original Beast Machines Optimus Primal toy swapped arms and legs when transforming, and several beast Transformers turn beast rear legs into robot arms, produce robot legs from inside their torsos, and turn their beast front legs into kibble.
Symmetrical Transformation
Since most altmodes (vehicles, beasts) are symmetrical, and the default robot mode is shaped more-or-less like a (symmetrical) human, the toy transformation can also usually be described as symmetrical Anything that was on the left side of the robot ends up on the left side of the altmode, and anything done to the left side during the transformation is also done to the right side. If any parts swaps side, it's because of a full 180-degree rotation (such as the waist-swivel common in beast-to-robot transformations), with the result retaining symmetry. Minor differences in tooling between the left and right side don't necessarily make the transformation asymmetrical. (E.g., if one arm has a weapon attached, or a spring-loaded attack function.)
Asymmetrical Transformation
Asymmetrical transformation is much less common than symmetrical transformation. Examples are Beast Machines Buzz Saw (where the beast tail becomes one robot arm, and four of his beast legs become the other robot arm), Energon Omega Supreme (where the two halves of his body are entirely different toys), and Transmetal 2 Beast Wars Megatron (where the dragon's head becomes one robot arm, and the other emerges from inside his dragon body, while his dragon arms end up as kibble). Several other Megatron toys are also asymmetrical, including the original.
Transition forms are heavily armored and capable of space flight over extended distances.

Naturally metallic and frequently engraved with unknown writing in the Transformer's own language the transition form picks up a coating of space dust and debris as it travels the galaxy. Beagle 2 Rover was an exploration craft launched by the United States to search for life on Mars. The official report states that when Beagle 2's parachute and airbag systems failed to deploy properly, the craft crashed into the planet surface.

Responding to Bumblebee's call for assistance, Ironhide and the other Autobots under Optimus Prime's direct command came to Earth, with the old soldier landing in a suburban pool. As he climbed out of the water, a little human girl asked him if he was the tooth fairy before he quicky hid behind some trees when the child's parents exited the house.

After the destruction of Megatron and the All Spark, Ironhide sombrely cradled the body of the fallen Jazz while Ratchet informed Optimus Prime that there was nothing they could do. Ironhide then gave Captain Lennox a ride home, and spent the remainder of the day observing Sam and Mikaela making out on the hood of Bumblebee's vehicle mode.

Brief aside with Optimus Prime reveals Ironhide's actions may have resulted in the destruction of a small planet at one point. Ironhide maintains that it was going to blow up anyway.

:Ironhide features an Automorph gimmick in his legs during transformation: As the user swings down his feet, all of the panels that make up his legs automaticaly shift and fold into place. This gimmick does not affect Ironhide's articulation. The instructions omit the exact positioning of the roof panels and rear window on his back, confusingly.

Trivia
* In the initial draft of the movie, Ironhide was not present among the Autobot cast. However, due to fan input, he replaced female Autobot Arcee in later drafts and the subsequent final script.

* In the movie, both of Ironhide's guns have 10,000 parts each.

* According to an article from Edmunds, Monroe Truck Equipment, in association with Hasbro, will release a GMC TopKick Ironhide special edition featuring most of the modifications made to the Ironhide vehicle props used in the movie. Sadly, installing a grumpy trigger-happy alien robot into the works is not part of the included modifications.
