The '''Constructicons''' are a group of Decepticons that take the form of various construction vehicles, many sharing alternate modes, [[body-type]]s and even names. Constructicons have been built since the dawn of the Transformer race, and used to be considered simple [[drone]]s. {{storylink|Tales of the Fallen issue 3}}

Unlike previous continuities, it seems as if only ''some'', not all, of the Constructicons are [[combiner]]s.

In the distant past, the [[AllSpark (Movie)|All Spark]] Cube created the [[Dynasty of Primes]], a race of powerful, trans-dimensional beings as the first inhabitants of [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. The Cube gave these beings mighty powers, as well as terraforming their world, but it was not limitless, and gradually became depleted. The first beings learned that the All Spark's power could be replenished by harvesting the energy of stars, but they were unable to locate new stars to suit their purposes, despite their amazing ability to travel between dimensions. Once again, the Cube came to the rescue, creating a race of workers, who had the ability to change their shape.

The "builder" workers were among the very first of these new beings, who would construct a [[Solar harvester|harvester]] when a suitable sun had been found. Once built, the device would drain the energy of these stars, thus replenishing the All Spark. {{Storylink|Defiance issue 4|Defiance #4}} The Primes ruled harvesters could not be used on a sun that replenished life, but one of them began to defy this rule and gathered together a few rogue "construction drones" and a [[Seeker (ROTF)|Seeker]] to secretly harvest suns and ignoring the genocide they caused. * Nearly all the humorous elements from the movie are missing, barring very, very few exceptions. This could be due to most of the humorous dialogue being ad-libbed for the movie and not in the script sent to IDW.
*Characters are monologuing a ''lot''.
*[[Alice]] and [[Grindor (ROTF)| Grindor]] don't die, although they are both absent for the rest of the comic.
*[[Wheelie (ROTF)|Wheelie]] never becomes an Autobot. All the information he provides is under the threat of physical harm from [[Mikaela Banes]].
*[[The Fallen]] doesn't arrive at Earth until the combat has started in Egypt. [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]] is the one who reveals the Decepticons' presence to the people of Earth and demands they turn over [[Sam Witwicky]].
*Instead of getting the coordinates to Egypt/Jordan from Simmons as in the film, Epps and Lennox gets them from Epps' wife.
*All the minor Decepticons that were in the final battle in the film are absent in the comic.
*The whole love-story with Sam and Mikaela is omitted.
*Megatron is a [[Triple Changer]]. He uses his Cybertronian jet mode for most of the story and only transforms from jet to tank in the final battle.
*There are 12 Primes besides The Fallen, and all but one die.
*[[Overload (ROTF)| Overload]] and [[Scavenger (ROTF)| Scavenger]] appear in their robot modes.
*Due to being a last-minute addition, [[Jolt (ROTF)| Jolt]] is absent.
*The meeting with Optimus Prime, at the graveyard. It's night and one of the twins are present.
*In the end, Megatron is shown at the [[Nemesis (ROTF)]], awakening a new [[protoform]] army. This is also present in the novel. It is unknown if this is canon or not or if it will appear in [[Transformers 3|the next film]].
*Megatron betrays [[The Fallen]], leaving him to be killed by Optimus.
