Overview
War rages around the Sacred Ring, where the last remnants of the planets Agorria and Zertonia have collapsed around a black hole in a never-ending battle. However, when Agorrian pilot Darak and his Zertonian rival Solila crash on a desolate planet, these two enemies must find a way to escape together. But are they alone on this strange planet? What secrets have their world leaders been concealing from their populations? And what dark forces await that threaten the entire universe?

Creative team
Skybound founder Robert Kirkman writes the series, and his Oblivion Song collaborator Lorenzo De Felici drew the first 18 issues. Starting with #19, Conor Hughes took over as the new regular artist, with De Felici continuing to draw the main covers; Andrei Bressan fills in as artist for the "Quintesson War" arc in #25-30. Patricio Delpeche is the regular colorist, following a first arc colored primarily by Matheus Lopes, and Rus Wooton letters the series.
Notes
* Void Rivals status as the launch for the Energon Universe was kept secret for almost the entirety of the comic's promotion, with Kirkman only revealing its existence to retailers just before the first issue's FOC date. Bleeding Cool would ultimately leak it a few days before release.
* While it initially seemed that Void Rivals status as an original creation meant Skybound would own it, the copyright notice for the series, placed at the back of issue 1, reads, "VOID RIVALS and all related characters are trademarks of Hasbro and are used with permission. © 2023 Hasbro. All Rights Reserved. Licensed by Hasbro." and includes the Hasbro logo. One has to wonder if that's how Kirkman got Hasbro to even sign off on the idea in the first place. Kirkman and De Felici receive additional credit, acknowledging them as the creators of Void Rivals, starting with issue #2.
Having discovered the truth, Darak and Solila are more determined than ever to return to the Sacred Ring. But what awaits them on their journey?

Synopsis
Director Elander briefs Darak on his next assignment: a comet is approaching the Sacred Ring, composed of four thousand tons of ice to add to the Agorrian reserves, especially since the Zertonians are currently having to ration water. Their meeting is interrupted by the arrival of Darak's father, Minister Dulin. Dulin gives his son a cold warning that if his mission is unsuccessful, he should not return to the Ring. Darak climbs into his Jump Jet and prepares for takeoff, ordering his Handroid to revive him once they are beyond the Ring's event horizon.

As the ship emerges into space, Darak experiences a vision and voice telling how the Sacred Ring came to be: when their sun began to collapse, two warring planets came together and, over the course of thousands of years, built the Ring to contain the resulting black hole, the people of each planet living on one half. Unfortunately, over the centuries, their tenuous peace broke down and the conflict between the Agorrians and Zertonians resumed, escalating as resources became more scarce and each side forgot their shared origins. However, the two sides will have to reunite soon. Goliant is coming.

Solila believes the voice Darak heard was that of Zerta, though he assures her Agorrians don't share the Zertonian's superstitious beliefs. Recognizing that their peoples' war is built on lies, Solila resolves to work with Darak to get off the planetoid, return to the Sacred Ring, and discover the truth. The pair begin to salvage what remains from their initial patchwork ship. They work tirelessly over the next twenty days constructing a crude, makeshift shuttle. Darak thanks Solila; she breaks down. She's spent her entire life training to kill Agorrians. Now, she's not only failed her mission to recover the comet but is trying to save the life of her enemy. Darak comforts her by assuring her that they're likely to die long before they ever reach the Sacred Ring. Amused, the pair climb into the shuttle and take off. Solila activates her transponder, hoping to get a signal out to either side as they venture into the depths of space.

Days pass. Handroid tells the pair that, at their current speed, they should reach the Sacred Ring in 12.4 years. Solila detects an asteroid moving towards them. Darak takes evasive action, but the asteroid begins to follow them. Robotic arms emerge from the asteroid and grab the shuttle, pulling it inside. Darak and Solila exit their shuttle with weapons drawn, finding themselves in some kind of spaceship. Solila marvels at the ingenuity of melding a spacecraft with an asteroid, a compliment appreciated by their captor — Skuxxoid!
Right as the dust has settled after Unity nearly ends them all, the Zertonians and Agorrians are swiftly invaded by the dreaded Quintessons, marking the beginning of the Quintesson War.

Synopsis
In Premiere Zalilak's throne room, he holds a meeting with several Zertonians over the current state of their city after Unity nearly destroyed the Sacred Ring. The meeting is interrupted by a furious Proximus, who has had enough of Zalilak's lies and engages him in a brawl. The fight takes the two outside the castle and down to a city street, just as he is about to deliver a finishing blow, Proximus looks upon a massive spacecraft that has Zalilak distracted, a Quintesson Cruiser! The Cruiser begins to make contact with the surface, prompting Zalilak and Promixus to save and evacuate any nearby citizens. The Cruiser soon lands in Zertonia, devastating the city, and nearly ends the lives of Proximus and Zalilak until it comes to an abrupt halt. Terrified of its arrival, the two Zertonians stare at the cruiser in disbelief, believing that Zerta has forsaken them.

In Agorria, Handroid and Darak have a conversation in the latter's quarters about the former's true sentience. Darak calls upon the similar robotic beings Springer and Hot Rod's sentience as proof that Handroid is truly alive, deepening the bond between the two. Handroid also calls upon Darak's friendship with Solila, which Darak writes off as not really a friendship, to which Handroid reaffirms that Solila is Darak's best friend. Suddenly, an alarm blares, calling all pilots to action.

In Minister Dulin's throne room, he is confronted by Grand General Dukan, seemingly outraged at a lack of a medal ceremony for his actions in the war against the Zertonians. The two Agorrians laugh it off, revealing Dukan to be Dulin's brother. Their reunion is cut short, however, as an Agorrian runs inside to warn Dulin of several unknown objects approaching the Sacred Ring.

In Agorrian airspace, Darak is awoken by Handroid, who is still getting accustomed to treating Darak as a friend rather than a mere pilot. Darak calls to his squadron, to which Gamut reports the squadron has successfully arrived. In formation, they all exchange information on what they have been given, agreeing to stay away from Zertonia after "recent events" reminding Garad of his fear of Goliant. Without any time, the squadron is suddenly ambushed by another Quintesson Cruiser, destroying Garad's jumpjet.

The fight takes the two outside the castle and down to a city street, just as he is about to deliver a finishing blow, he looks upon a massive spacecraft that has Zalilak distracted, a Quintesson Cruiser! Terrified of it's arrival, the two Zertonians stare at the cruiser in disbelief, believing that Zerta has forsaken them.

In Agorria, Handroid and Darak have a conversation in the latter's quarters about the former's true sentience, with Darak calling upon Springer and Hot Rod's sentience as proof that Handroid is truly alive, deepening the bond between the two. Handroid also calls upon Darak's friendship with Solila, with Darak writes off as not really a friendship, to which Handroid reaffirms that Solila is Darak's best friend. Suddenly, an alarm blares, calling all pilots to action.

In Minister Dulin's throne room, he is confronted by Grand General Dukan, seemingly outraged at alack of a medal ceremony for his actions in the war against the Zertonians.

In the Temple of Zerta's Light, Solila and her Handroid are trying to figure out how to escape from the restraints, to which Handroid has no luck. Just as Handroid offers a solution, Solila hears the call of Zerta, who orders her to serve one final time now that the Quintesssons have invaded the Sacred Ring.

The fight takes the two outside the castle and down to a city street, just as he is about to deliver a finishing blow, he looks upon a massive spacecraft that has Zalilak distracted, a Quintesson Cruiser!

The fight takes the two outside the castle and down to a city street, just as he is about to deliver a finishing blow, he looks upon a massive spacecraft that has Zalilak distracted, a Quintesson Cruiser!

Notes
Continuity notes
* The Zertonians are still dealing with the aftermath of almost achieving Unity from issue #23.
* Kanela finally returns after last being seen in issue #6.
* Proximus mentions the Sacred Texts, which he has mentioned reading before in issue #7. He also mentions hearing the voice of Zerta, which we saw in issue #21.
* The Quintessons finally arrive to the Sacred Ring, after first coming across it in issue #15.
* Darak calls on the revelations about Zerta, Goliant, and the Zertonians being wrong about it all, all of which we saw from issues #22 through issue #24.
* Darak and Garad mention avoiding Zertonia "in light of recent events", and being scared of Goliant, all seen in issue #23.
* Looks like Garad got a new Jump Jet after his was apparently damaged beyond repair in issue #23. Sadly, his new one gets destroyed immediately at the end of this issue, bummer.

Errors
* On page 22, panel 3, Darak calls on his squadron to report what they're seeing, but his second speech bubble does not include a question mark when he asks "What are we looking at here."
