Tarantulas detects a new stasis pod and attempts to turn the protoform into a new Predacon.

Synopsis
As another stasis pod leaves orbit and completes planetfall, Tarantulas sends out a magnetic pulse that disrupts the sensors at both the Predacon and Maximal bases. The pulse ensures that Tarantulas will be the first to arrive at the pod's landing site, within Grid Halex, and that he will be able to manipulate the protoform inside. Blackarachnia discovers what Tarantulas is up to and insists on accompanying him to the pod's landing site.

Tigatron also sees the pod arriving, but is unable to contact the Maximal base so he sets out to intercept the pod on his own. He is intercepted by Waspinator, who delays Tigatron until Airazor arrives and saves him. Tigatron tells Airazor to go to the pod and that he will join her there.

Arriving at the pod, Tarantulas and Blackarachnia are too late to hand pick an arachnid form for the protoform; however, Tarantulas is able to do some reprogramming and turn the protoform into a Predacon. The new Predacon, Inferno, emerges from the pod only to attack the other two Predacons, then begins marching about the stasis pod. Tarantulas deduces that Inferno's beast mode is dominating his logic circuits and that he thinks he really is a fire ant protecting his colony, which his mind concludes is the stasis pod. Blackarachnia tries to fire on Inferno, but Tarantulas stops her, saying he wants no damage to the pod.

Airazor arrives on the scene only to be attacked and disabled by Inferno and Blackarachnia. While Blackarachnia uses this opportunity to make nice with Inferno and start to win him over, Tarantulas uses it to accomplish his real goal—stealing the stasis pod. This act enrages Inferno who sets out in pursuit of Tarantulas, with Blackarachnia not far behind. Tigatron arrives and tells Airazor to find Optimus while he pursues the Predacons.

Nearing his lab, Tarantulas is caught by Inferno who demands the return of the "colony". Tarantulas ensnares Inferno in a web and is preparing to finish him off when Scorponok arrives and informs Tarantulas that Megatron wants the pod. Before that can happen however, Tigatron arrives and destroys the pod. His victory quickly turns sour as he is attacked by both Tarantulas and Blackarachnia, who inflict heavy damage on him. Megatron arrives on the scene shortly, and even though both of the spiders flee, Tigatron is still in trouble. Inferno breaks free of Tarantulas's web, enraged at the destruction of the colony. Impressed with new guy's violent attitude, Megatron directs Inferno's fury on Tigatron. The ant is prepares to destroy the tiger, but Optimus Primal and Airazor arrive and blow Inferno into scrap.

Megatron gathers up the parts of Inferno and has him restored, while Optimus and Airazor take Tigatron back to the Maximal base for repairs. Back at his lab, however, Tarantulas is lamenting the loss of the pod, revealing to Blackarachnia his beliefs that the planet they're on is doomed. From this, the black widow correctly surmises that Tarantulas was going to convert the pod into an escape shuttle, but is unable to wrench any more information about his motives for doing so out of him.

Notes
*After Tigatron hits his head, there's a cartoony, tweeting-bird sound.

Animation and technical errors
*Inferno's beast form seems to be way too large for the stasis pod he crawls out of...
*Inferno's legs are also colored quite randomly. This means that when he first transforms to robot mode, his right leg suddenly goes from being dark red to a bright hue.
*When Blackarachnia hides behind a tree, her spider legs clip into its trunk.
*Then, as she transforms, Tarantuals' forearms are on backwards. And when he transforms, his robot mode legs miraculously disappear, only to flip down from his body and retract into it again.
*As Blackarachnia throws Tarantulas off herself, he briefly passes into her back.
*As Airazor struggles to get up, the fingers on her right hand twist outwards two times.
*When Tarantulas transforms after Inferno finds him, the markings on his spider abdomen change as it becomes his back.
*When Inferno breaks out of the web Tarantulas traps him in and fires his jets, his spinning abdomen is seen slashing through the back of his legs. (for a brief second anyway)

Continuity errors
*While other stasis pods are shown with hatch windows in outer space, Inferno's stasis pod does not have a window when viewed from the inside.
*Despite what the stasis pod says during Tarantulas's reprogramming of it, it had already started and finished scanning for DNA before the spiders even arrived.
Trivia
*While Megatron is complaining that repairing the computer is Tarantulas's job, you can see the words "eat me" on the screen in the Predacon variant of Cybertronix.
*This is the only episode of the series in which Scott McNeil voices just one character (specifically, Waspinator). The other fifty-one episodes saw him voicing two to four characters.
*This is the first episode of the series to not feature Rattrap, Cheetor, or Terrorsaur.
*It can be speculated that Inferno's faulty programming can be attributed to his pod already selecting his beast mode before Tarantulas began the reprogramming sequence. It is possible that without the Maximal or Predacon programming chips the pod began to program him with the basic instincts of an ant.
*Curiously, when Tigatron is injured near the end of the episode, his beast mode's face (which serves as his robot mode's chestplate) appears to be bleeding. Unless mech fluid happens to be red, this either this contradicts what Cheetor said to Tarantulas in an earlier episode when he said "I don't have real blood... only mech fluid.", or this lends credence to the theory that beast modes are wholly organic.
After an innocent is killed, Tigatron questions his commitment to the Maximal cause.

Synopsis
Frogs eat bugs, snakes kill frogs, birds kill snakes. Things are mercilessly killing each other, as Nature intended. But Nature didn't intend for a giant crazed robotic fire ant to attack Cheetor and Dinobot. As the maniacal Inferno gleefully assaults the two, Terrorsaur brings out some heavy explosives from a mountaintop weapons cache to take out Dinobot, though he ends up knocking Inferno aside as well; Waspinator just hangs back, waiting for the signal that Terrorsaur never bothered to give. After getting blasted a good distance, Terrorsaur signals for Waspinator to attack. Cheetor radios for back-up.

Waspinator plans an attack on Cheetor using another heavy explosive, but overestimates his own strength and can't keep himself aloft when he's holding the weapon. While trying to keep airborne, Waspinator sees a tiger, which he naturally mistakes for Tigatron—who is actually a few feet higher on the mountain, ready to pounce on the Predacon. Tigatron holds on and guides the bug to a crash.

Inferno switches his weapon to a flamethrower to cook the cats. Tigatron transforms and blasts Inferno away, but a stray shot from his own gun passes Inferno and heads towards the mountain where both Snowstalker and the Predacon's weaponry cache are located. The entire supply of explosives detonates in a single blast, and Tigatron's animal friend is caught in the rockslide. Concerned for his companion, Tigatron hurries to unbury the wild tiger, but it's too late.

Later, as the sky darkens, Tigatron finishes constructing a marker for Snowstalker's resting place. Surveying the damage to the landscape from the fight, Tigatron resolves to quit being a participant in the Beast Wars. Dinobot argues that destruction is part of the nature of war, but Tigatron remains with his decision to stay out of the Maximal/Predacon conflict. After Tigatron leaves, Dinobot follows him, making it clear he has a sort of plan. Cheetor is relieved when Primal arrives to make sense of the situation.

The three Predacons meet to plan their next move.

In the dark of night, in thick foliage, Dinobot shows Tigatron an example of Nature in action: a tiger killing some gazelles. Slaughter for survival, just like the Maximals battle the Predacons for the survival of peace on Cybertron. Dinobot explains that if Megatron wins, he will spread war to other worlds, ultimately destroying Cybertron in the process. Thus, the Maximals must stop him. It is the legacy of the Autobots and the Decepticons: they will always oppose each other. Tigatron still disagrees, and Dinobot gets aggressive. Luckily, before Dinobot gets carried away, Primal arrives to take his turn at reasoning. Disgusted, Dinobot takes his leave. After he leaves, Primal tells Tigatron that he hates the Beast Wars just as much as him, but that as long as they are on this planet, they have a duty to protect it from the Predacons.

The three Predacons attack Dinobot, overpowering the lone Maximal despite his inhumanly flexible neck. Primal arrives soon after, and the Predacons hope for another victory. Optimus puts up a better fight, knocking away both Terrorsaur and Waspinator with one shot, but Inferno hits Optimus from behind with a strong blast. The two Maximals are too damaged to fight against the killer fire ant, when to their rescue comes Tigatron, who can't sit passively while his friends are close to death.

Inferno's flamethrower ignites a bush, adding to Tigatron's fury. The cat blasts Inferno into the distance, ending the Predacon's campaign. Tigatron extinguishes the fire and is welcomed back to the Beast Wars. Although he still hates the collateral damage, Tigatron now understands he can do more good as a warrior than a bystander.

Continuity errors
* Dinobot says that the Great War began three centuries ago. What he meant to say was that it ended three centuries ago.

Transformers references
* Snowstalker had previously been seen in the episode "Fallen Comrades". Who's the fallen comrade NOW?
* Inferno calls Tigatron "destroyer of my colony!", a reference to how the tiger-bot ticked him off in his debut episode. Apparently, Inferno doesn't yet think of the Predacon base as his colony.
Trivia
* Rattrap and Rhinox aren't seen in the episode, but Rhinox is mentioned by Primal.
* This episode also features the least amount of charcaters of any episode in the series: Seven charcaters (There are usually 9-14 characters in an episode).
* Waspinator behaves like a complete moron during the course of the entire episode. He's also more jolly than any other of his appearances.
* Megatron makes a cameo appearance during Dinobot's speech to Tigatron. He can even be heard laughing.
* As Tigatron berates Inferno, both Primal and Dinobot stand behind him, waving their fingers.
* At the beginning of the episode, Cheetor and Dinobot are searching for more alien sites. This is foreshadowing.
* The wild tiger that Dinobot and Tigatron observe looks rather strange: it is, of course, just a direct color swap of Tigatron's animation model replacing all the white with orange, which results in the tiger being completely orange whereas a real tiger would still have white fur all over its underbelly, neck, and face.
A strange creature emerges from a damaged stasis pod, and both Rampage and Silverbolt find a strange type of kinship with it.

Synopsis
Within the Predacon base, Megatron dozes in his quarters, an opportunity which Rampage uses to make a grab for his spark. His efforts earn him nothing but painful punishment and a sharp rebuke from the suddenly-awake Predacon leader.

Elsewhere, Rattrap, Silverbolt, and Cheetor are searching for another Predacon jamming tower in a mountainous, seismically unstable region; Megatron monitors them, and sends Inferno and Rampage to deal with them. Worried about the growing earthquakes, Optimus Primal heads out to back up his teammates. A huge earth tremor emits strange energon discharges, knocking out Rattrap and Cheetor and burying them under a rock slide. The quake also uncovers a buried stasis pod; Megatron immediately sends Inferno after it; Rampage follows.

Inferno arrives at the pod, which is badly malfunctioning. Silverbolt arrives and takes him out of the picture. Rampage arrives, intrigued by the pod's contents. As its computer warns that "deconstruction" is "imminent", he urges the powerful spark within to fight its way free. With a mighty shriek, the pod explodes, releasing its passenger.

Rattrap and Cheetor free themselves, and behold the new arrival: a strangely misshapen, almost skeletal creature. Rampage is impressed. He urges the newcomer to destroy the Maximals; Silverbolt counters that they offer friendship. The new robot doesn't seem to know what to make of either side, until Inferno returns, opening fire on the Maximals but hitting the new arrival instead. In response, it unleashes a sonic shriek that shorts out the Maximals and drives Inferno off. As the last one standing, Rampage leads "Transmutate" away, telling it that he is its only friend.

Away from the others, Rampage examines Transmutate. Inferno catches up and demands to return the creature to Megatron. Rampage is prepared to fight it out, till Megatron sends a holo-communicator to speak with the new creature. When it can't even transform, he deems it worthless and orders it destroyed; Rampage pleads to give it a chance to destroy the Maximal to prove its worth. Megatron agrees.

Optimus Primal and Silverbolt split up to hunt for Transmutate, sending the others back. Rampage uses Transmutate to lure Silverbolt into an ambush; he and Inferno blast the Maximal unconscious. When Transmutate hesitates to finish off Silverbolt, Inferno bashes it aside and prepares to finish the job himself. Transmutate responds by blasting him over the horizon. Primal arrives and buries Rampage; Silverbolt's intervention keeps Transmutate from blasting Primal in defense of its friend. Primal and Transmutate take Silverbolt away, Transmutate revealing that it can fly. Rampage breaks free and promises that Primal will not have the creature.

At the Maximal base, Rhinox scans the creature and finds that its malformed structure and datatrax make it a danger to itself and everyone else. He recommends putting it into stasis, a suggestion that angers Silverbolt. As the team argues, Transmutate wanders off, then bursts out of the base in response to a call from Rampage. A still-fuming Silverbolt stalks off. Optimus Primal orders the team to find Transmutate.

Rampage welcomes Transmutate, but Silverbolt arrives, and a fight ensues, with Transmutate watching unhappily. As the two struggle, they eventually launch weapons. Transmutate lands between the opposing missiles of its two friends with a cry of "Stop!"; its energies destroy the missiles but overloads the creature, destroying it.

Rampage cradles the creature's head in his hands as its spark fades out. As Optimus Primal arrives, Silverbolt urges him to leave Rampage be; they are "brothers" for the moment, both mourning the loss.
Notes
* When new, this episode was at the center of an April Fool's joke gone horribly, horribly wrong. A copy of the script was altered by persons unknown at Mainframe Entertainment to include some rather lurid scenes, such as Rattrap mounting Transmutate. * As if that weren't bad enough, the script was leaked before the episode actually aired in the United States, leaving the fandom debating whether the entire story, and the naughty bits in particular, were actually legitimate.
* This episode features one of the rare instances of Inferno referring to Megatron by name rather than as "Royalty" or "my queen".
* This is the first episode of Beast Wars to not feature Waspinator. With this, Waspinator becomes the final of the first original ten charcaters to miss an episode, and ends his streak of being the only charcater of the original ten to appear in every episode consecutively since the show began, appearing in the first 35 episodes before missing this one).
* Also absent from this episode are Tarantulus and Blackarachnia (For the first time since Law of the Jungle for both of them). This is also the only episode of Season Two that neither of them are in (Blackarachnia actually appears in every episode following this one for the rest of the series run).

Animation and technical glitches
* At the very beginning of the episode, Megatron's energon-infusion bag disappears between two angled shots.
* Rampage just can't keep himself together in this episode. When Transmutate unleashes a burst of energy upon exiting its pod, Rampage is missing his robot mode "kibble". He is also missing it while he is trying to step on Silverbolt during the last battle. In many other scenes in this episode, Rampage's back kibble is present but out of alignment.
* Similarly, when Silverbolt declares to Rampage "This one is not for you!", he's missing his wing assembly.
* How the hell is Cheetor holding Rattrap in mid-air by the tail? His paws lack opposable thumbs!
* When Rampage drives up to the cliff where Transmutate's stasis pod in tank mode, just before he transforms to robot mode, his crawler treads just disappear. They don't retract, just vanish.
* Not exactly a glitch but a sequence of poor direction: when the Maximals awaken after the first time Transmutate zaps them, we hear a sound effect and then Silverbolt says "Optimus—thank the Matrix!"... but we don't actually see Optimus.

Continuity notes
* When leaving to help Cheetor, Rattrap, and Silverbolt, Optimus makes a remark about not wanting to lose any more friends. This is a reference to Dinobot (who died in the previous episode), and most likely also a nod to Tigatron and Airazor (who were abducted by the Vok a few episodes earlier).

Continuity errors
* Rampage matter-of-factly calls the protoform "Transmutate" several minutes before the sequence in which he asks it for its name and then slowly "figures out" that it should be Transmutate.

*Rattrap claims that Arcee is his great-aunt.

Transformers references
*Rattrap claims that Arcee is his great-aunt.
With the flying island under Predacon control, the Maximal base and the Beast Wars are in jeopardy.

Synopsis
On the floating paradise island of unknown origin, Tigatron resolves to be the island's dedicated defender, protecting it from the Predacons who would abuse its power. With the injured Airazor on his back, he gets moving. Meanwhile, the Predacons plan to make Tigatron's fear come true. Blackarachnia deduces how to detect traps on the island and that the obelisk that fires the laser weapon must be where the island is controlled.

At the same time, Optimus Primal (with Rattrap on his back) flies towards the island, maintaining radio contact with Rhinox on the Axalons bridge. Cheetor rushes onto the scene again, as he's spotted Waspinator and Terrorsaur leaving the Predacon base. As soon as he receives the news over the radio, Primal gets into an aerial scuffle with the two fliers, and because of his handicap from carrying Rattrap, is soundly blasted. Primal and Rattrap free-fall out of control.

Rattrap, falling to his death, transforms and blasts the taunting Terrorsaur, commandeering the pteranodon as his new mode of transport. The battle between Primal and Waspinator ends in Waspinator's usual fashion.

Airazor and Tigatron have trouble with another of the island's deadly traps, but Tigatron cleverly blasts his and Airazor's way to freedom. Out of danger, they rendezvous with Primal and Rattrap (who is abandoned by his steed). Tigatron fills in his allies on how the symbols around the island denote the location of traps. Rattrap speculates the function of the island is, in fact, a test of the survival capabilities of whomever visits it.

Blackarachnia and Scorponok reach the obelisk that controls the island. Seeing the fliers, she fakes aggression against them so they attack her, which triggers the island's laser defense, giving Blackarachnia the chance to blast her way inside of the obelisk safely. The black widow marvels at the power of the alien technology she discovers inside. She gleefully announces her plan to use the island to win the Beast Wars for herself. Scorponok objects, but is quickly tricked into one of the island's traps.

Inside of the ornate control room, Blackarachnia steps on a strange symbol on the floor, which bathes her in light. The light alters her colors and her voice and gives her mind a direct connection to the island's power. She blackens the sky and uses the obelisk to rain destruction on the island (in a literal sense). The monolith elongates as she directs the island towards the Maximal base. Optimus radios to Rhinox the command for the crew to evacuate the Axalon.

Rattrap's leg is pinned down by some heavy stone debris, but he commands Tigatron to leave him behind so the cat can stop Blackarachnia's chaos. As Tigatron presses forward, Rattrap uses an energy weapon to get the obelisk's defense beam to free himself. Inside the obelisk, Tigatron reluctantly destroys the island's reactor, knowing that this action will doom the paradise.

Without an energy source, the island loses altitude and guidance, narrowly swooping over the Maximal base. The island crumbles as it crashes into the ground, robbing Blackarachnia of her chance to dominate. The fallen obelisk sends one final pulse of energy into the sky, which bounces off of a similar obelisk on the smaller of the planet's two moons, then vanishes into space.

Tigatron knows the beam was a signal, telling the creators of the island how the Maximals and Predacons ruined their island paradise. A reoccurring butterfly symbolically dies. The Maximals wonder what's next, and how the builders of the island will react to the vandalism.
Notes
Continuity errors
*Despite Blackarachnia's observation that the monolith needs to recharge when it fires, it has no difficulty in firing a precise blast at Rattrap when he shoots at it, and it's dispersing energy all over the place at the time. Even if there are separate mechanisms for the different kinds of fire, the apparently large amount of energy consumed by the main beam seems as though it would cause some sort of pause in the barrage, at the least.
*Speaking of which, the monolith's main weapon has wildly varying power levels throughout the two-part episode. It was previously shown to be strong enough to badly damage Terrorsaur and Waspinator with one shot apiece, but in this episode, it only knocks them out of the sky, no worse for the wear. Later, it hits Rattrap almost dead-on, and leaves him seemingly uninjured save for a bout of dizziness. A possibility is that the repeated firings in such a short period of time are depleting the beam's charge, leaving it at the level of a strong blaster rather than a devastating superweapon.

Real-world references
* When Airazor is too injured to fly, Tigatron declares that "The lady shall ride the tiger". This is a reference to Frank Stockton's famous short story, "The Lady or the Tiger?"
* In the Bible, "Let there be light" is a phrase used by God when he creates the universe.
Trivia
* Despite spewing massive amounts of firepower in every direction, the monolith under Blackarachnia's control fails to hit any of the Maximals. "Just stop and aim, you idiot!"
* This is the only episode of Beast Wars not to feature Megatron in any way, including flashbacks (Law of the Jungle), dreams (The Web) or holograms (A Better Mousetrap). However, Blackarachnia does mention him when she gloats that the island's power will allow her to defeat "even Megatron".
* Dinobot appears but gets no lines at all (which is odd given they had Scott McNeil there to voice Rattrap anyway).
*Cybertronix:
** As Rhinox makes contact with Primal, much Cybertronix appears on his screen. Though some is gibberish, the words "toilet", "Rod was here", and "you look too close" can be made out.
** Upsidedown text at the bottom of the screen when Airazor spies on Blackarachnia includes the names "PAM" and "KRIS", as well as "MCM10C4" (1994 in the Maximal numbering system).
The outnumbered Maximals must defend their base from a Predacon assault while Rhinox takes a dangerous journey.

Synopsis
Dinobot, Rattrap, and Cheetor attempt to hold off six Predacons some distance from their base, to allow Rhinox to complete his mission to travel through the Matrix. When Megatron orders them to take no survivors, Silverbolt protests, saying they should let the Maximals surrender, only to be struck by the irate Predacon commander. When Silverbolt is perplexed by their resistance, Megatron realizes that they are keeping them from their base. He orders Waspinator and Silverbolt to head to the Axalon. Cheetor takes to the air, and Rattrap converts to vehicle mode, ordering Dinobot to hop on and provide cover fire (disgusting the former Predacon).

Tarantulas, however, is using the psychic link to force Blackarachnia to search for information on the Golden Disks. While she searches through the files, she discovers something of importance, but refuses to show Tarantulas. When Tarantulas is rendered unconscious by a boulder, Blackarachnia downloads the information, then destroys the computer, claiming that it was boobytrapped.

Reaching the Axalon, Silverbolt is shot down by the autoguns, and captured by the Maximals. Dinobot prepares to destroy him, but Rattrap and Cheetor prevent him, instead taking him in to repair him. Rhinox, who has finished, tells the Maximals they must hold the Predacons off for a little while longer. Inside the Axalon, a charge hits the device Rhinox was connected to, heading to a stasis pod with a blank protoform. Outside, the shields fail under the fire, and the Maximals engage—to discover that they are out of ammo. The Predacons seriously injure the Maximals.

Having waited a long time for their victory, the Predacons approach, prepared to deliver the killing blow. Before they can finish the Maximals off, there is an explosion in the hull of the Axalon. When the smoke clears, the Maximals and Predacons alike are shocked to see the cause of the explosion—Optimus Primal. The Predacons attempt to destroy him, but Primal, now with his own Transmetal body, causes the Predacons to scatter. Primal takes to the air, dispatching the rest of the Predacons. Megatron attempts to kill Primal, but Silverbolt knocks Megatron off a cliff, defecting to the Maximals.

After the battle and some repairs, Primal inquires as to how the new bodies do with absorbing energon. Rhinox remarks that all the energon within the area either detonated or was converted to Energon cubes, so it isn't really a problem right now. They'll have to wait for Tigatron and Airazor's report on the rest of the planet. In the meantime, Primal remarks that he has to put his house in order, such as get to know the new additions, and remove Rattrap's personal effects from his quarters.

At the Predacon base, Blackarachnia tells Megatron that Dinobot stole the Disks and destroyed the computers. Megatron and Tarantulas ask if anything from the back ups can be recovered, and when Blackarachnia reveals that it was totally destroyed, Megatron smashes Tarantulas into the wall in rage. Megatron then declares that the Beast Wars has entered a new phase, while, unseen, binary code flashes across Blackarachnia's eyes.
Notes
Animation and technical errors
*When Megatron opens fire on the Maximals the second time in this episode, his middle, ring, and pinky "fingers" are shown clipping through his cannon.
*While in pursuit of Rattrap and Dinobot, Megatron transforms from his beast mode in mid-flight and continues to attack from the air, yet his VTOL engines are inactive on his back rather than deployed.
*Before the Maximals begin getting hammered by the Preds, Rhinox is on top of Rattrap, with him either clipping through Rattrap's rear wheel, or the wheel has no interior.

Continuity errors
* Tarantulas and Waspinator arrive again mid-battle, despite having already arrived at the end of the previous episode.
* SIlverbolt claims that the Predacons outnumber the Maximals "more than two to one". The term "more than" implies that there are more than six Predacons present, when in fact there are only six.
* Waspinator and Silverbolt take off for the Maximal base twice, clearly going over the Maximals' heads a second time after the commercial break; the Maximals then reassert the danger of the situation in different phrasing than before. Presumably such a flagrant "error" is a sly stylistic reference to older cartoons which would often repeat actions between acts and episodes, sometimes in contradictory ways.
* Funny things happen with ammunition:
** Dinobot says his weapon is depleted, despite clearly having ammunition bandoleers criscrossed over his torso. The weapon gets fired more times before the episode ends, anyway.
** There's no real in-story reason for the Maximals to run out of ammunition before the Predacons, who have been unloading ordnance at them all night. Rhinox in particular should have fully loaded weapons when he enters the fight. This was almost certainly an intentional choice by the writers, to fit the episode's thematic homage to spaghetti western serials.
* An earlier script revision called for the elevator into the Maximal base to be destroyed during the fight, giving Primal a more practical reason to blow a hole in the side of his own base. Oh well, maybe the big guy was in a hurry.

Transformers references
* While Blackarachnia is searching through Megatron's stuff, a gray model of Starscream's head is in the pile. (It's too small to be the real thing, given that Beast Warriors are shown later in the series to be much smaller than Generation 1 characters.)
* Other items in the pile include a model Supermarine Spitfire, a model helicopter, a number of books, the Holy Grail, three identical spiky planets, a model rocket, a pocket-watch, and a rubber ducky.
* During one of Rhinox's trips through the Matrix, near the end of the episode, the Autobot Matrix of Leadership is seen floating.
* When Rattrap asks where Rhinox went, he describes the Matrix as "where all are one".
* Rattrap filled Optimus's quarters with his things, despite the latter's warning not to do so in "Other Voices".

Real-world references
*The Rat Patrol was a 1960s TV show about a group of Allied soldiers fighting Rommel's Afrika Corps on the North African front during World War II.

Trivia
*After Rattrap throws a rock in the air as an example of what would happen if they moved away from the cover of the boulder, it's blasted into a tiny pebble and hits the ground. All three Maximals' "eyes" then pop out of their heads towards the rock in the fashion of the eyeball gag in classic Tex Avery cartoons.
* Blackarachnia's theft of the Golden Disk data would have consequences carrying through the remainder of the series.
* Though neither admits it, it seems likely that both Tarantulas and Megatron see through Blackarachnia's sleight-of-hand with the backup data tracks. Blackarachnia tells Megatron that the computer was destroyed by Dinobot... after telling Tarantulas that it was destroyed because it was booby trapped. Tarantulas says nothing to contradict this lie to Megatron, and later interrogates her when the chance presents itself in "Bad Spark". Megatron likewise guesses the truth and attempts to strong-arm the data from her in "The Agenda (Part III)".
* This episode continues the Spaghetti Western film references, especially when Optimus fights Inferno.
* Speaking of Inferno, there were plans to have him be a reborn version of Megatron, but those plans obviously never came to be. This abandoned plot was hinted when the two flyers crash into one another, and recover only to find their heads on the wrong bodies, which Inferno found hilarious. Megatron was capable of using Inferno's body during this mix-up to punch Inferno's head.
* As of the end of this episode, four of the eight members of Primal's team have spent time as Predacons, one way or another. Dinobot was originally a Predacon, but left in the first episode, Rattrap briefly defected in "Double Jeopardy" as part of an infiltration, Rhinox was forcibly converted (and subsequently restored) in "Dark Designs", and Silverbolt was duped into joining Megatron's side in the previous episode.
* In the Canadian broadcasts of this episode Tarantulas calls Blackarachnia "Widow" rather than "Witch".
*After the Maximals run out of ammo and the Predacons launch a full gunfire barrage, Dinobot stands up roaring at them, only to get shot in the crotch by Waspinator (You can hear his weapon go off right beforehand), bending over slightly and groaning from the pain.

*After the Maximals run out of ammo and the Predacons launch a full gunfire barrage, Dinobot stands up roaring at them, only to get shot in the crotch, bending over slightly and groaning from the pain.

Autobots and Decepticons land on a mysterious planet where there's an evil version of Optimus.

Synopsis
On the bridge of his ship, Megatron blogs to himself about how happy he is that Optimus is alive again, which confuses his minions.

On top of the hull of the Axalon, Optimus gets reintroduced to his crew, and the Mini-Cons escorting the ship. But the welcoming party is cut short by an electrical space anomaly that suddenly appeared in the ship's path. Hot Shot and Red Alert are pulled into the hole, which fades away.

On a strange alien landscape, Hot Shot and Red Alert reawaken. Red Alert quickly acts responsibly and sends a beacon to the Autobot ship. Next, the two survey the irregular terrain they arrived in. A dark copy of Optimus Prime assaults and chases the two.

Elsewhere, the Decepticons begin their hunt on the planet for their enemies. Their attention is brought to the noise of the Autobots' fight. The three Decepticons transform to assist the black scourge who introduces himself as Nemesis Prime. Using an amazing ability to alter his own shape, Nemesis Prime turns on Megatron, holding the Decepticon leader in the air.

The Decepticons and Autobots both fight against Nemesis Prime, but the battle quickly comes down to Megatron resorting to the use of the Requiem Blaster. The resulting explosion destroys the Prime-doppleganger and damages the Autobots.

In space, the Mini-Cons guide the Autobot ship to the planet with their two missing friends.

Megatron prepares to finish off both Autobots. Starscream interjects, suggesting using the Autobots as captives. Megatron buys Starscream's disguised compassion. Nemesis Prime re-forms from fragments on the ground and battles the Decepticons again, this time with a sword, but the arrival of Mini-Cons takes the menace down. Before they leave again, the Mini-Cons bathe the gathered bulks in energy, repairing them and giving the large Transformers as well as themselves new colors and a boost in power.

The Axalon arrives over the planet, dropping Optimus and Overload onto the surface. A giant Nemesis Prime emerges from the ground for a third attempt at destroying the Transformers. When Optimus and Megatron combine their ordnance, the creature finally dies, revealing a brief transparent image of Sideways before vanishing. With Nemesis Prime destroyed, the planet begins to disintegrate, and so the Autobots and Decepticons return to their ships and continue on their voyage to Cybertron.
Notes
Differences with Micron Legend
*Starscream, upon gaining his super mode, just wonders what is up with the different colours on his mode. He makes no references to Thundercracker.

Animation and/or technical glitches
*Due to its use of stock footage, Tidal Wave's sudden appearance to combine with Megatron depicts blue (ie: Earth) skies behind him rather than the green skies of the strange planet.
*Nemesis Prime cuts Demolishor's blasters with his Sword, but when he turns around to confront Starscream, Demolishor's blasters are intact.
*In the scene where we get a full view of Optimus and Overload, Optimus has the tracks of his trailer painted as if they were tires.

Continuity errors
* None known.

Real-world references
* None known.

Trivia
*The English version of "Puppet" aired in Canada first. It aired in the United States on November 7, 2003.
*Jetfire only appears in a single wide shot of the bridge that is reused several times throughout the episode. He has no dialogue.
*The intro to the episode has a unique narration that mentions the kids, which flows into a recap of the last episode.
*Nemesis Prime has a trailer in the animation, the toy does not.
*Why couldn't Prime have arrived on the planet seconds before the Mini-Con and received his Powerlinx colors like the rest of the Transformers with Powerlinx colors? Only Stephen Colbert knows, and he's not telling.
*Thrust and Cyclonus also had Powerlinx colorations that were never used in the series.
*The Powerlinx recolorings are homages to several G1 characters including Hot Rod (Hot Shot), Ironhide (Demolishor), Thundercracker (Starscream) and obviously G1 Galvatron (Megatron).
*Overload's sudden appearance was on the "to-do" list of things to be explained in the Linkage series, but there was never time for it. So all we can infer is that it's a big weapon set that for whatever reason Prime was unable to bring to battle before.

Quotes
"So, my old friend Optimus Prime is alive once again. How interesting. He's as stubborn as ever and he refuses to admit defeat (Bursts out laughing).

"Has Megatron blown a circuit? What's he so happy about? Optimus Prime is alive again, right?"

"Yeah, he is. But I'd rather see Megatron like this than screaming his head off at us, Cyclonus."

"Yeah, I guess you've got a point there."
:-Megatron talks to himself as Cyclonus and Demolishor observe him.

"I got kinda banged up and it looks like I sustained some collateral damage."
:—Red Alert gives Hot Shot an enigmatic damage report.

* None known.

Real-world references
* None known.

*Overload's sudden appearance was on the "to-do" list of things to be explained in the Linkage series, but there was never time for it. So all we can infer is that it's a big weapon set that for whatever reason Prime was unable to bring to battle before.
