While the term technically encompasses any group of kids coming together to talk about Transformers in a sandbox, it is commonly used to refer to the people from college-age and up who participate in the online fandom. The earliest form of interaction between ''Transformers'' fans that went beyond the usual schoolyard talks was the [[Letters page|Letters Pages]] in the [[The Transformers (Marvel comic)|''Generation 1'' comics]] by [[Marvel Comics|Marvel]]. In addition, the [[S.T.A.R.S.]] fan club can be viewed as the first form of an officially organized "fandom", although interaction between individual members was still limited at best.

Unofficial fanclubs were formed as early as 1986. One of them, the [http://webspace.webring.com/people/ip/pierrimus/ Transmasters] club, even got a shoutout in the letters pages in [[The Last Autobot?|issue 79]] of the Marvel US G1 comic (published in 1991), leading to a huge influx of new members, soon growing to 300 members globally. The original organizers of the club soon began to crumble under the weight, leaving matters to new members who would take over responsibilities. As fans grew older, those few that did not outgrow their hobby (like most children do) eventually found a form of communicating with each other on the internet. Emerging from comic-centric bulletin boards such as the CCC (Comics Collectors' Club), a mailing list was created in April of 1993, coinciding with early rumors about the impending launch of the [[Generation 2 (toyline)|''Generation 2'' toyline]]. Later that year, still before the ''Generation 2'' toyline was launched, the mailing list was abandoned in favor of a text-only [[wikipedia:Usenet|Usenet]] newsgroup named [[alt.toys.transformers]] (a.t.t.), which was launched on September 11, 1993. Many of the members of the mailing list and a.t.t. had previously also been members of the Transmasters fanclub, which was now rendered somewhat anachronistic by the internet.

Because Usenet is one of the oldest parts of the internet (dating from 1979), a.t.t. functioned as a central hub where all members of the then-small fandom interacted together. Indeed, it would not be unfair to say that for most of the 1990s, a.t.t. ''was'' the online fandom. ''[[Beast Wars (cartoon)|Beast Wars]]'' showrunners [[Bob Forward]] and [[Larry DiTillio]] later also used a.t.t. as a means of communicating with the fans, and even recruited one of them, [[Ben Yee]] (who had also started out with the Transmasters club), to work as a consultant for the show.

Another form of online fan interaction was the text-based [[MUSH]], a shared online role-playing environment. Many MUSHers were also ATTers.

===Rise of the World Wide Web===
During the late 1990s, the first individual fan sites were launched on the World Wide Web. [http://www.unicron.com/ Unicron.com] (launched in 1997, moved to its top level domain in 1998).

[http://www.tfarchive.com/ The Transformers Archive] was originally also launched as a private site in 1996 and eventually moved to its current domain in 1999. Its sister site, [http://www.transfans.net/ Transfans.net], was originally launched as Transfans.com in 1998. Both sites gained message boards in late 2000, but were mostly known for offering downloads of old cartoon episodes and scanned comic book pages for years, a practice Hasbro still silently tolerated at that time—until a cease and decist order in January of 2003. Since then, TFArchive has started to focus mostly on comic and toy reviews, while Transfans is mostly known for interviews these days. Both sites have comparably small, but stable communities.

Aside from the British fandom, Scandinavian fans were among the most active non-Americans in the online ''Transformers'' fandom during the late 1990s. In 1998, several Scandinavian ''Transformers'' fans decided to form their own fanclub, the Nordic Transfan Association, which eventually got its own website, [http://www.ntfa.net/ NTFA.net], in 2001. NTFA remains one of the largest European ''Transformers'' fan communities to this very day.

===Early message boards and tensions in the fandom===
Some of these early sites, particularly Ben Yee's, also featured message boards, which were used as an alternative to a.t.t. by some fans. While Ben Yee soon closed his board again due to frequent trolling and lack of moderation, another fan named Renaud Lefebvre launched his own site, [http://www.bigbot.com/ Bigbot.com], in 1998, which also featured downloads and a message board, Bottalk.

Even though Renaud was in contact with ''[[Beast Machines (cartoon)|Beast Machines]]'' showrunner [[Bob Skir]], thus briefly making Bottalk ''the'' primary Transformers discussion hub during that time, his tight-handed way of moderating his board eventually led to mass bannings, coupled with a mass exodus to a newly created board, named The Allspark, in November of 1999. Due to the backlash from his moderating style, Lefebvre has maintained an isolationist stance for Bottalk, ignoring the existence of other Transformers-related websites (with the occasional content copied and images hotlinked from the official Hasbro website). In return, Bottalk is ignored by the rest of the fandom, yet continues as a small but active board.

The Allspark eventually encountered internal friction itself—when the community, under a new owner, moved to the new domain [http://www.allspark.com/ Allspark.com] in 2001, several members gained illegitimate control of the Ezboard site and attempted to turn the old board into a ''second'' Allspark community (now also available under [http://www.allspark.net/ Allspark.net]). The .com site remains the much larger of the two Allsparks to this very day, whereas the other board has faded into obscurity.

This era also saw the launch of the first ''Transformers'' podcast, [http://www.tfradio.net Radio Free Cybertron], in September 1999, which was also one of the first podcasts ''ever'', existing at a time before the term existed.

===The Big Bang===
In the early 2000s, the World Wide Web exploded with new ''Transformers'' fan sites. This coincided with the onset of the "nostalgia boom," when numerous properties from the 1980s were relaunched in various forms—in the case of ''Transformers'', these were the ''[[Robots in Disguise (franchise)|Robots in Disguise]]'' and ''[[Armada (franchise)|Armada]]'' lines and the [[Dreamwave Productions|Dreamwave]] comics. This caused a growth spurt for the fandom, with new arrivals eschewing the outdated Usenet and instead using web-based message boards.

[http://www.seibertron.com/ Seibertron.com] was launched in 2000, originally as an informational website, later expanded to include toy galleries and a message board. These days, the site views itself as one of the biggest ''Transformers'' fan communities.

Its biggest competitor is [http://www.tfw2005.com/ TFW2005.com], which was originally launched as a private fan site named [http://www.angelfire.com/bc2/transformers/ Transformer World 2005] in early 2000. It first moved to its current domain in May 2000, added a message board and soon started to offer downloads of Japanese ''[[Robots in Disguise (cartoon)|Car Robots]]'' episodes. In July of 2001, TFW2005 merged with two other sites, [http://transformers.pitas.com/ Transformers News] and the Matrix Magazine, to form a new super-site, Transfandom.com. The honeymoon didn't last long, as frictions among the merged site's staff caused TFW2005 (including its boards) to return to its old domain in January of 2003, while Transfandom (now with its own board) continued alternatively under the domains Transfandom.net and Transfandom.com again, ultimately fading into obscurity and eventually disappearing from the internet altogether in the fall of 2007. Meanwhile, TFW2005 is said to have close ties with Hasbro (albeit only unofficially), and is also often the go-to site for representatives of other official parties, such as screenwriter [[Roberto Orci]].

Another site that would eventually become large was originally launched in 2001 as [http://tfexchange.com/ TFExchange.com]. In May of 2002, a hostile takeover by a URL sniper caused the site to move to its current domain, [http://tformers.com/ TFormers.com]. These days, TFormers is part of the Entertainment News International network that includes [http://toynewsi.com/ Toy News International], [http://jediinsider.com/ Jedi Insider] and [http://enewsi.com/ Entertainment News International]. Similar to Bigbot, TFormers also prefers to pretend that other fan sites don't exist. The biggest rival for TFormers is TFW2005, which dates back to Hasbro employee [[Aaron Archer]] blaming TFormers for causing his superiors to order Aaron to cease posting at TFW2005's boards.

In addition to these considerably large sites, there are countless smaller sites, some of them being mostly collector showcase sites run by individuals, while others have their own message board communities. Fan communities not based in the United States have also emerged in considerable numbers, with sites often concentrating on a single country, or at least a clearly defined area (such as the aforementioned Scandinavian NTFA), many of them also operating in other languages than English.

The large boom of Transformers fan sites on the World Wide Web also had an effect on the established Usenet newsgroup alt.toys.transformers. Activity on the group dropped off, leading many of its members to venture beyond its confines and into the message board world. Given the large number of different boards, the preferences of the users, and the enmities that formed between sites, it was no longer really possible to "know everyone," as it was in a.t.t.'s heyday.

The situation remains the same today, only more so, as the [[Transformers (2007)|live-action movie]] has turned a perennially strong franchise into a runaway powerhouse, attracting countless fans young and old, new and nostalgic, across the globe.

==Mindset==

Describing the general mindset of Transformers fandom is difficult, if not outright impossible, due to its extremely diverse nature. It's often claimed that the fandom hates everything and generally [[Ruined FOREVER|rejects any notion of "change"]]<ref name="change">Which is ironic, considering the entire ''premise of the [[Transformers brand|brand]]'' is "change".</ref>, but even that is not entirely true.

What ''is'' probably true, however, is that the fandom can't ''agree'' on anything...well, almost anything. Even [[Transformers (2007)|''Transformers'' movie]] producer [[Don Murphy]], who repeatedly postulated that the fandom can't agree on anything, admitted that the vast majority of the fandom was supportive of [[Peter Cullen]] and [[Frank Welker]] being the best, if not the only, reasonable choices for the voice actors of [[Optimus Prime (Movie)|Optimus Prime]] and [[Megatron (Movie)|Megatron]] in the movie, respectively.<ref name="cullenwelker">Ultimately, only Cullen was actually signed on by director [[Michael Bay]], while [[Hugo Weaving]] was cast as Megatron, much to the dismay of many fans. In the early days of the ''Transformers'' online fandom, disagreements centered around the question of whether the [[The Transformers (cartoon)|original cartoon]] or the [[Marvel Comics|Marvel]] [[The Transformers (Marvel comic)|comic]] represented the "true" [[canon]], and whether the portrayal of characters in the cartoon (such as their [[FIRRIB|coloration]]) should be [[show-accuracy|given priority]] over their [[toy]]s. Then came the ''[[Beast Wars (franchise)|Beast Wars]]'', which split the fandom into those who [[Trukk not munky|rejected the new series]] (without even having seen it yet) and those who were at least willing to give it a chance.

Subsequent series such as ''[[Beast Machines (franchise)|Beast Machines]]'', ''[[Armada (franchise)|Armada]]'', the [[live-action film series]] and ''[[Transformers Animated (franchise)|Animated]]'' were met with equally mixed (and vocal, from both sides of the spectrum) reactions, [[Pokeformers|each for its own reasons]]. Furthermore, there are even fans of the newer series who [[GEEWUN|reject]] [[Generation 1 (franchise)|the original series]] (or, in some cases, at least its vocal fans). And lastly, the debate over whether [[Hasbro]] or [[TakaraTomy|Takara]] [[Misconceptions and urban legends about Transformers#Other|makes the better toys]] will probably rage on for the rest of eternity.

Aside from these radically polarized positions, however, there are also a large number of fans who have [[personal canon|personal preferences]] for one aspect of the ''Transformers'' brand over others—toys over cartoons, cartoons over comics, Japanese fiction over Western fiction, [[IDW Publishing|IDW]] over Dreamwave—while at least tolerating the rest (and its fans), if not actually enjoying it to some degree. Many members of the online fandom have gone on to contribute to Transformers in an official capacity. One of the most prolific ones is probably [[Ben Yee|Benson "Ben" Yee]], who started out as an active fan (under the screenname "Wonko the Sane") and defended the [[Beast Wars (cartoon)|''Beast Wars'' cartoon]] in its early phase at [[alt.toys.transformers]]. Ben was eventually hired to work as a consultant for the show. Later, he was made a member of the [[Transformers Collectors' Club]]'s Advisory Board and has since written officially licensed ''Transformers'' comic book stories for both [[IDW Publishing]] and [[Fun Publications]].

Another name widely recognized among fan circles is [[Don Figueroa]], who gained early fandom fame for his fan comic ''Macromasters'', which featured original robot designs created by him. Don also created large transformable, scratch-built toys based on his characters. He was later hired by [[Dreamwave Productions]] as a comic book artist and developed the comic series ''[[The War Within]]'' together with writer [[Simon Furman]], and also developed pre-Earth designs for every single character that appeared in the comic. Uh, correct me if I'm wrong, but there's no ice at the bottom of the ocean. Ice is less dense than water so any particles cold enough to freeze float above those who aren't cold enough. (Contrary to normal laws of convection; ice is weird like that) so Megatron and the Decepticons wouldn't be icy at all. Just really cold and crushed under immense water pressure.

However, the [[Revenge of the Fallen (novel)|novelization]] mentions that he's a fighter jet several times, and that he takes his tank mode during the battle in Egypt. Additionally, the previsual shots shown on the special two-disc pack show Megatron chasing down Optimus Prime while in jet mode. Is it possible that Megatron really was meant to be a triple changer, and it was simply dropped from the final cut? Few of his faction can achieve escape velocity and enter planetary orbit unaided, as he can, from planets as big as [[Earth]] or slightly larger. He carries fuel reserves sufficient for short orbital journeys; he is quite able to land on Earth's [[Moon (moon)|Moon]], then take off and return to Earth. Cosmos enjoys such diversions immensely. Generally, however, he remains in orbit, relaying messages, observing enemy installations, and watching for [[Decepticon]] activity in nearby space. His optical sensors are able to observe a human radio host standing outside in the high desert from 600 miles up.

As a living [[Transformer]], his advantage over a simple satellite is great, but it is a boring life for Cosmos. Every so often he breaks the monotony by hovering eerily above the backyards of Earth citizens, drifting silently behind the cars of lone drivers with his running lights on, or briefly jamming TV transmissions with reruns of ''The Outer Limits''. He has also been known to zigzag through meteor showers on a clear night, showing off his space piloting skills. Space. The final frontier. These are the voyages of Cosmos, Autobot deep-space reconnaissance officer. His continuing mission—to observe Decepticon activities. To provide intelligence to the Autobots in their never ending war. To boldly crash where no other Autobot has crashed before.

Our hero began his adventures with a bang, appearing out of nowhere to blindly lead the Autobot spacecraft straight into the sun. If not for the impetuous [[Cliffjumper (G1)|Cliffjumper]] trying to change their course and realizing the controls were locked, Cosmos would have had the greatest crash of all. Still, he did his best to save his fellow Autobots in the end, as his deep space armor allowed Cosmos to come inside the ship and continue poking vainly at the control panel long after the others collapsed from their circuits overheating. [[Trailbreaker (G1)|Trailbreaker]]'s force field eventually saved the Autobots, and they managed to vacate the crumbling ship inside a massive force sphere, tethered to Cosmos to bring them back to Earth. Cosmos' knack for crashing almost did them in anyhow, though — the same reprogrammed guidance directives that were controlling their ship were now being beamed by [[Teletraan I (G1)|Teletraan I]] to Cosmos himself, forcing him to lead the force sphere back on a course into the sun. Only the freak chance of the Decepticon [[Thrust (G1)|Thrust]] visiting the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] and blowing up Teletraan I on a whim saved the Autobots, and allowed Cosmos to begin towing them back to Earth. Even though time was of the essence, we can only assume Cosmos didn't crash-land upon re-entry. {{storylink|Megatron's Master Plan, Part 2}}

When next seen, Cosmos was patrolling the spaceways for Decepticon activity with [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] (probably as a punishment for actually liking Blaster's taste in music) when they came across a lunar base being run by [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] and [[Astrotrain (G1)|Astrotrain]]. Against logic and precedent, Cosmos actually managed to make a perfect two point landing on a hillside near the base to eavesdrop. Enraged at Cosmos for defying all expectations and NOT crashing (not to mention the, uh... spying he was doing), Megatron ordered Astrotrain to bring him in as a prisoner. Prisoners of war, Cosmos and Blaster were then welded to the wall and used as a power booster and tuning mechanism for Megatron's trans-scrambler, wiping out all radio contact on Earth. Luckily, Blaster managed to send his own signal along Megatron's scrambling beam, alerting the Autobots to their location. [[Omega Supreme (G1)|Omega Supreme]] arrived and drew the Decepticons' attention away from their base. Left alone, Cosmos had to do little more than raise his arm to fire off a particle beam that totally destroyed Megatron's antenna array and saved the day, teaching tyrants everywhere once and for all not to underestimate an Autobot just because he's short, fat, ugly, lonely, nerdy and more than a little (Dare we say it?) spacey... {{storylink|Blaster Blues}}

Possibly Cosmos' shining moment was one for most of which he wasn't even conscious. Cosmos crash-landed rather dramatically on [[Titan (moon)|Titan]] after being shot down by the pursuing Astrotrain, who was after the energy data the Autobot carried. Cosmos' body was discovered by [[Titan (species)|the moon's natives]], but Astrotrain quickly followed up, having overheard their superstitious discussion and set himself up as one of their Sky Gods. The cowed, religious people quickly obeyed him, and Astrotrain put Cosmos' body in the main temple for use as an idol. The rebel [[Talaria]] overheard Astrotrain musing to himself about Cosmos' short-circuit and managed to use Cosmos' systems to get an SOS to the Autobots on [[Earth]]. With barely enough power flowing through his systems to stay active, Cosmos found a better use for it: shooting [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]]. With the Decepticon occupied for the moment, Talaria was able to escape unmolested. [[Jazz (G1)|Jazz]] and [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]] were dispatched to Titan via Omega Supreme, and Cosmos was recovered, the Decepticons sent packing, and the Titans were freed from religious dogma. {{storylink|The God Gambit}}

Somehow, Cosmos managed to talk Prime into letting him serve on Earth for a while as part of the Autobots' joint Crimebuster program with the NYPD. He observed a traffic jam while hovering over Times Square, and later tried to chase down Starscream on foot with [[Powerglide (G1)|Powerglide]], only to end up causing massive structural damage to a human mall. Incidentally, Cosmos was back in space very shortly. {{storylink|Make Tracks}}

After [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]] and [[Bombshell (G1)|Bombshell]] pumped out hundreds of [[Insecticon (G1)|Insecticlones]] to swarm over the countryside and gather power, Prime sent Cosmos into space to retrieve a giant can of [[robotic insecticide]]. (Really — we can't make this stuff up.) On his way back with [[Spike Witwicky (G1)|Spike]] and [[Bumblebee (G1)|Bumblebee]], though, Cosmos was attacked by [[Morphobots]] on [[Floron III]]. Although he managed to break loose of their grip, the techno-organic plants left behind spores on his hull which quickly developed into fully functioning vines that entangled Cosmos as he tried to re-enter Earth's atmosphere. Spike and Bumblebee escaped in an ejector chamber, but Cosmos did his crash-landing bit and was covered in Morphobots by the time he came to a stop, with the robotic insecticide can still inside him. Bumblebee summoned the other Autobots to try and help, and it was Blaster's obnoxious music that ultimately cleared the way and allowed them to free Cosmos. [[Hoist (G1)|Hoist]] promised to give Cosmos "the best overhaul he'd ever had" when they got back to the Ark. Uh-huh... niiiiiice... {{storylink|Quest for Survival}}

When he uncovered a Decepticon operation to mine ore from an asteroid they'd pulled into orbit, Cosmos rushed back to warn Prime and gather a strike force. Optimus stressed caution instead and ordered Cosmos back up into space to acquire some hard evidence on the Decepticon activity. Cosmos did as he was asked and actually managed to grab a sample of ore right out of Astrotrain while the [[Constructicon (G1)|Constructicons]] were loading him up. He brought this "hard evidence" back to Earth to show Prime. The Autobot leader commended Cosmos on his work, but he wasn't quite done and sent Cosmos back out into orbit yet again, this time to track Astrotrain to the refinery the Decepticons must have been using to process the ore. When [[Seaspray (G1)|Seaspray]] intercepted a distress signal, Cosmos carried him, Bumblebee and Perceptor to the planet of the [[Tlalakan]]s, a humanoid race held captive by the Decepticons. Too late, they realized that it was a Decepticon distress call. Droids blasted Cosmos, who (surprise, surprise) crashed on the planet. He remained damaged for a time, too much so to participate in many of the Autobots' adventures on the planet. {{storylink|Sea Change}}

Overflying [[Lord Chumley]]'s castle, Cosmos reported back to headquarters that he'd found the Autobots who'd gone missing. He was able to transmit footage of the captives being subjected to Chumley's fiendish torture devices and report his coordinates to Teletraan I, but his transmission was cut off by Chumley himself, who invited Optimus to try and save his friends. {{storylink|Prime Target}}

Cosmos, once again teamed with Blaster, scoured the universe for more [[Ingredient X]] so that Perceptor could concoct more [[corrostop]]. One can only imagine how many moons and planets he bravely crash-landed on in his fruitless search. {{storylink|Cosmic Rust (episode)|Cosmic Rust}}

After the Autobots retook Cybertron, Cosmos was on the planet monitoring incoming space traffic with [[Kup (G1)|Kup]] and Blaster. The planet was locked down due to the threat of an imminent attack, but an incoming human shuttle reported a mayday, and Kup ordered Cosmos to let it land. Some time later, Cosmos was late flying in to Cybertron with [[Sky Lynx (G1)|Sky Lynx]] to see the activation of the new power platform. On his entry vector, Cosmos was blasted with [[anti-electron]]s, a dangerous substance designed to disrupt his normal operating functions. Cosmos was a member of [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor's]] resistance cell on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Like most of the cell, he had a stronger respect for their top fighter [[Blaster (G1)|Blaster]] than Perceptor, and along with the other Autobots overruled Perceptor's order not to search for Blaster's missing friend [[Scrounge (G1)|Scrounge]]. In the [[Dead End (place)|Dead End]], Cosmos provided some life-giving fuel to ol' [[Wheezel]] for information, only to find that Scrounge had been taken away to [[Darkmount]] by the Decepticon [[Shrapnel (G1)|Shrapnel]]. Realizing Scrounge was probably dead already in the [[smelting pool]], Blaster went after his buddy anyway, and Cosmos and the others had to come after him and save his hide (video evidence of Cosmos' rampage through Darkmount is still used to scare Decepticon recruits). Though Scrounge died, the Autobots managed to retrieve the last data from his infobanks, and learned that [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] and the crew of the [[Ark (G1)|Ark]] were alive and well on the planet Earth! {{storylink|The Smelting Pool!}}

Galvanized by this knowledge, the Autobots planned a daring assault on [[Straxus (G1)|Lord Straxus]], planning to destroy both his seat of power at Darkmount and the new [[Space Bridge]] allowing transit to Earth. Darkmount was destroyed, but the Decepticons interrupted Blaster before he could finish setting the charges on the bridge. Instead, Cosmos, Blaster, and the rest of their unit were chased over the other side, and found themselves stuck on planet Earth. Bantor was one of the [[protoforms]] jettisoned from the ''[[Axalon (BW)|Axalon]]'' on prehistoric [[Earth]]. He was activated and put in [[chronal phase]] by [[Razorbeast]] at [[Magmatron]]'s request, but was protected from Magmatron's Predacon shell-program by Razorbeast's viral code.

Soon after awakening, he joined up with [[K-9]], [[Noctorro]], [[Stinkbomb]], [[Armordillo]], and [[Torca]]. During their journey to meet up with Razorbeast, Torca got stuck in some mud, and Bantor and the others helped free him. After following Razorbeast's signal for days, and picking up more Maximals along the way, Bantor and the rest rushed into battle against Magmatron's Predacons, where he plucked the wings of [[Scourge (BW)|Scourge]] (see picture above). The Maximals won that altercation, and awaited rescue from [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]].

Subsequent battles were not favorable for Bantor. A later Predacon assault led by [[Ravage (G1)|Ravage]] left many Maximals and Predacons injured. When [[Lio Convoy]] arrived to take as many soldiers as possible back to Cybertron, Ravage discovered the threat of [[Shokaract]], and there wasn't enough room on Lio's ship to take everyone back. Bantor was one of the Transformers who had to stay behind. The arrival of the [[Blendtron]]s only made things worse. After [[Cybershark]] convinced everyone to help Razorbeast, everyone entered the fray. It appears that Bantor and [[Manta Ray (BW)|Manta Ray]] were crushed to death by [[Drancron]]. At one time, [[Tasmania Kid]] and Diver were out on a scouting mission (much to Diver's chagrin, as he wanted to relax) when [[Apache]], popping out of the bushes, quietly called them over. The confused pair followed, only to find Apache to be an illusion, baiting them into a net laid out by [[BB]]. BB then took the two Maximals back to [[Starscream (BWII)|Starscream]], who told them he would release them after they ran an "errand" for him.

When the duo didn't report back, the Maximals left in search of the missing Diver and Tasmania Kid, eventually finding them collapsed at the edge of a valley. However, it was all part of Starscream's trap. Diver and Tasmania Kid, now brainwashed into thinking they were Predacons, sprang into action and attacked the Maximals. [[Galvatron (BWII)|Galvatron]] soon entered the scene and stacked the odds tremendously against the Maximals.

As the fight raged on, [[Megastorm]] got to a vantage point and prepared to fire his cannon at both Lio Convoy and Galvatron, killing two birds with one stone. [[Scuba]] intervened by creating a geyser beneath him from an underground river, throwing Megastorm's aim off. After a failed attempt to steal experimental rocket fuel from [[United States Military]], [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]] realized that while the Decepticons controlled the skies, the Autobots had supremacy on the ground, and so they needed new ground-based warriors who could out-drive and out-fight the Autobots on their terms. [[Rumble (G1)|Rumble]] was sent to steal various [[human]] vehicles that would be rebuilt to become the new Stunticons. Breakdown was given [[Spark|life]] by [[Vector Sigma]] along with the rest of the Stunticons. He agreed to obey Megatron, but there was a certain reluctance in his voice. He probably thought Megatron was out to get him, or something. {{storylink|The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 1}} Whilst the Autobots were trapped on Cybertron, the Decepticons returned to [[Earth]] with the newly awakened Stunticons who began wreaking havoc and damaging the Autobots' good name by attacking the US military base containing the experimental rocket fuel. Eventually, the Autobots returned with the newly built [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]] whose combined form Superion defeated the Stunticon combiner Menasor. {{storylink|The Key to Vector Sigma, Part 2}}

Despite this defeat, the Stunticons were the key component in Megatron's elaborate scheme to hold a [[Europa 2000|fake charity race]] from Paris to Istanbul so he could steal US driver [[Auggie Cahnay (G1)|Auggie Cahnay]]'s car which would be melted down to house the the powerful [[Pearl of Bahoudin]]. One by one, the Stunticons disabled the Autobot participants assigned to protect Cahnay. When Megatron was infected with [[Cosmic Rust (disease)|Cosmic Rust]] after a trip to the lost Autobot colony of [[Antilla]], the Stunticons were assigned to capture the Autobot scientist [[Perceptor (G1)|Perceptor]], who had developed the powerful anti-corrosion [[Corrostop]]. Arriving incognito on a ferry, Breakdown transformed and nervously informed the human passengers that this was a hijack and forced them into the captain’s cabin, though he actually locked them in the garage. After Starscream was banished for yet another failed coup, he returned with a powerful new Decepticon team called the [[Combaticon (G1)|Combaticons]], who were able to outfight Autobot and Decepticon alike. With Megatron needing a trump card, [[Soundwave (G1)|Soundwave]] attempted to call on the Stunticons to help, but they refused as they were having a demolition derby with various human-owned cars. However, the Stunticons belatedly arrived after the Combaticons' combined form of [[Bruticus (G1)|Bruticus]] defeated [[Devastator (G1)|Devastator]] and forced Megatron to acknowledge Starscream as the new Decepticon leader. While assembling a new weapon capable of destroying any target by creating a chain reaction in its molecules, Megatron found himself short a few key components to finish the device. He sent the Stunticons out to retrieve those components by any means necessary. Breakdown and [[Wildrider]] assaulted a local optics laboratory to gather new focusing lenses for the cannon's beam. On their way to the weapon's construction site, they were intercepted by a troop of Autobots. It was [[Grapple]] who brought down Breakdown, setting him on fire with his arc-welder rifle by using a trail of fuel as a fuse. The Stunticons were imprisoned in the Ark, their radioes and vehicle modes disabled and trapped behind energized bars. The Autobots then used camouflage paint to alter their appearances and mimic the Stunticons, hoping to get close enough to Megatron to catch him unawares. Autobot warrior [[Sideswipe (G1)|Sideswipe]] assumed Breakdown's appearance for the mission. After they left, however, Breakdown managed to use his unique vibratory pulses to disrupt his bars and break free. He caught his Autobot captors by surprise and blasted several of them before they could react, giving him enough time to free his fellow Stunticons and form Menasor. After a brief but memorable conflict, Menasor escaped the Ark and returned to Megatron. The cannon was rendered unusable by the Autobots' intervention, though, and Megatron's plan failed. {{storylink|Masquerade}}

Galvatron kidnapped [[Doctor Dalton]] of [[Eran]] to upgrade the might of his combiner warriors. When the Autobot combiners arrived to save Dalton, Breakdown and his teammates were deployed at high speeds from Motormaster's launcher mode. They met Superion in mid-air, and the force of their deployment enabled the combiner teams to tear him apart. The Stunticons then merged into Menasor to move in for the kill. Breakdown and the Stunticons participated in Galvatron's siege on Cybertron. They managed to gain the high ground against the [[Dinobot (G1)|Dinobot]]s and [[Throttlebot]]s, and rained laser fire down on their opponents. {{storylink|Four Warriors Come out of the Sky}} Breakdown and his team formed Menasor to fight their Autobot counterparts, but were steamrolled by the might and firepower of the [[Fortress Maximus (G1)|Battleship Maximus]]. Transporting back to Earth, they attempted to interfere with [[Hot Rod (G1)|Hot Rod]]'s quest for the Matrix. When [[Vector Sigma]] began perfecting the new super-metal [[Cybertonuron]] on Cybertron, Galvatron ordered another all-out attack on the planet to seize the metal for the Decepticons before the Autobots could make use of it. Joes]] and [[Cobra]] members sent to bring the lost Cybertronians back to the future. After overhearing [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]] explaining what would happen to Earth if the Stunticons weren't retrieved, Breakdown revealed himself and stole [[Beachhead]]'s [[disruption unit]]s, using them to awaken Dead End, Wildrider and Drag Strip. By attaching a mode-lock device, the Skywatch agents forcibly reverted Breakdown to vehicle mode, leaving him trapped and unable to operate himself.
