==Overview==
Following the events of ''Combiner Wars'', the [[Titan (IDW)|Titan]]s are awakened and [[Trypticon (G1)|Trypticon]] begins to wreak havoc on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Hovering by the council tower, [[Starscream (G1)|Starscream]]'s gigantic super-[[Combiner]] form crackles with energy as he monologues about his "wasted years" fighting to defeat [[Autobot]]s, to rein in [[Decepticon]]s, to gain the trust of the people. As [[Optimus Prime (G1)|Optimus Prime]]'s words and [[Megatron (G1)|Megatron]]'s attacks go ignored, Starscream declares that he has become "everything".

Suddenly, however, he loses control of the swirling power of the [[Enigma of Combination]], and his newfound giant form detonates, sending [[Hot Rod|Rodimus Prime]] and [[Mistress of Flame]] flying into the distance. Floating in Starscream's place is now an orb of energy, surrounded by broken Combiner parts and the spectral face of the ex-Decepticon. In a seeming fit of madness, Starscream begins pelting the surrounding city with energy beams from his new form, to Optimus's horror. In his throes, he sends himself tumbling to the bottom of the council tower.

As Prime and Megatron recover from the initial assault, Starscream unleashes a black hole, which threatens to consume them until [[Windblade (G1)|Windblade]] blows it back with her turbines. Starscream proceeds to hit the [[Cityspeaker]] with all his power, sending her falling to the ground, still. Just as Megatron insists that the battle is lost, Starscream's glowing form shoots forward towards him and Prime...

[[William Fowler|Fowler]] arrives at the [[Autobot]]s' new base driving a massive military truck, described as an "experimental, all-terrain, expeditionary fighting vehicle". [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus]] gives his approval and begins to scan it.

The next day, [[Ultra Magnus (WFC)|Ultra Magnus]] and [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]] return from the rubble of the former Autobot base with what little they could find. Wheeljack is happy enough to find their lobbing ball with which he immediately initiates a game of [[Cybertronian_sport#Lobbing| Lobbing]]. Unprepared, [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] is unable to catch the ball and it bounces off of him, very nearly crushing [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]], who is pulled to safety by [[Jack Darby|Jack]]. Ultra Magnus admonishes Wheeljack's reckless behavior, once again citing his distaste for [[Wrecker]] behavior. He tells Wheeljack that if he'd rather not follow orders, he's free to walk away, as he did back on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Wheeljack remarks that if [[Jackhammer (Prime)|his ship]] wasn't destroyed, he'd do just that.

Meanwhile, Optimus puts his new jet pack to use investigating recent Decepticon activity. He comes upon a cave entrance in the side of a mountain and transforms into his new vehicle mode to enter.

Miko wishes all of the Autobots had jet packs, but [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] reminds everyone that the [[Forge of Solus Prime]] has been depleted of its power. [[Smokescreen (Prime)|Smokescreen]] returns from scanning new "war paint", but this fails to impress Ultra Magnus, who immediately assigns him a menial duty. Smokescreen grumbles about how he nearly became a [[Prime (rank)|Prime]], but pretends to have said something else when Ratchet overhears.

In the cave, Optimus comes across a group of [[Insecticon (Prime)|Insecticon]]s excavating some very large skeletal remains and makes short work of them. But he is unable to prevent [[Bombshock (Prime)|Bombshock]] escaping with a piece of the fossil.

Optimus returns the rest of the fossil to the base, and reveals that it's the remains of a [[Predacon (Prime)|Predacon]]. Smokescreen notes that Predacons are supposed to be extinct, since before most life began on Cybertron. The Autobots deduce that the recently-returned [[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]] is behind [[Predaking (Prime)|the one they already fought]], and most likely plans to clone more of them.

They were sent to Earth to kill Autobots and gather [[Energon]], and there they remained until succumbing to the ravages of time. Shockwave confirms that he can create new clones from the endomatter of the deceased batch.

Ratchet shows the children images of Predacons from Cybertronian historical texts. Jack recognizes them as robotic versions of creatures from Earth's own various mythologies. Optimus notes that the Predacons were very likely the inspiration for such tales.

On the highway overpass above him, Bumblebee and Smokescreen are able to wrest the Predacon fossil away from Shockwave, but not without breaking it, sending a small piece falling over the edge. Optimus rushes back into the air to catch it, but Soundwave activates a second GroundBridge that catches the falling fossil in min-air and deposits it into Megatron's waiting hand aboard the ''Nemesis''. Their mission complete, the Decepticons retreat through the GroundBridge from which Soundwave emerged.

On the ''Nemesis'', Megatron decides that Shockwave is much too valuable to Project Predacon to risk using in the field. Shockwave agrees to confine himself to his lab and leave the task of collecting bones to Starscream. Megatron notes how anxious he is to set his army of beasts on humankind.

[[William Fowler|Fowler]] arrives at the [[Autobot]]s' new base driving a massive military truck, described as an "experimental, all-terrain, expeditionary fighting vehicle". [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus]] gives his approval and begins to scan it.

The next day, [[Ultra Magnus (WFC)|Ultra Magnus]] and [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]] return from the rubble of the former Autobot base with what little they could find. Wheeljack is happy enough to find their lobbing ball with which he immediately initiates a game of [[Cybertronian_sport#Lobbing| Lobbing]]. Unprepared, [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] is unable to catch the ball and it bounces off of him, very nearly crushing [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]], who is pulled to safety by [[Jack Darby|Jack]]. Ultra Magnus admonishes Wheeljack's reckless behavior, once again citing his distaste for [[Wrecker]] behavior. He tells Wheeljack that if he'd rather not follow orders, he's free to walk away, as he did back on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. Wheeljack remarks that if [[Jackhammer (Prime)|his ship]] wasn't destroyed, he'd do just that.

Meanwhile, Optimus puts his new jet pack to use investigating recent Decepticon activity. He comes upon a cave entrance in the side of a mountain and transforms into his new vehicle mode to enter.

Miko wishes all of the Autobots had jet packs, but [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] reminds everyone that the [[Forge of Solus Prime]] has been depleted of its power. [[Smokescreen (Prime)|Smokescreen]] returns from scanning new "war paint", but this fails to impress Ultra Magnus, who immediately assigns him a menial duty. Smokescreen grumbles about how he nearly became a [[Prime (rank)|Prime]], but pretends to have said something else when Ratchet overhears.

In the cave, Optimus comes across a group of [[Insecticon (Prime)|Insecticon]]s excavating some very large skeletal remains and makes short work of them. But he is unable to prevent [[Bombshock (Prime)|Bombshock]] escaping with a piece of the fossil.

Optimus returns the rest of the fossil to the base, and reveals that it's the remains of a [[Predacon (Prime)|Predacon]]. Smokescreen notes that Predacons are supposed to be extinct, since before most life began on Cybertron. The Autobots deduce that the recently-returned [[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]] is behind [[Predaking (Prime)|the one they already fought]], and most likely plans to clone more of them.

Aboard the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]'', [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] reacts to the presence of Predacon remains on Earth with cynicism. [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] explains that the remains actually belong to an army of clones that he had commissioned during the war. They were sent to Earth to kill Autobots and gather [[Energon]], and there they remained until succumbing to the ravages of time. Shockwave confirms that he can create new clones from the endomatter of the deceased batch.

Ratchet shows the children images of Predacons from Cybertronian historical texts. Jack recognizes them as robotic versions of creatures from Earth's own various mythologies. Optimus notes that the Predacons were very likely the inspiration for such tales.

Ratchet revisits his [[Synthetic Energon|synthetic energon]] formula, in hopes of replenishing the Energon stores lost when their base was destroyed. Fowler suddenly reports that satellites have picked up Decepticon activity in both [[Texas]] and [[Scotland]]. Optimus assigns Ultra Magnus, now wielding the depowered Forge, to lead the Wreckers to Scotland. Meanwhile he, [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]], and Smokescreen [[GroundBridge]] to Texas and split up.

Alone together, Smokescreen asks Bumblebee if he'd ever wanted to be a Prime. Bumblebee says his only aspiration is to be a warrior. When Smokescreen asks why Optimus hasn't promoted him from scout yet, Bumblebee reveals that it's his choice. Their conversation is interrupted first by a squad of [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicon]]s and then by Shockwave, toting the remains of a Predacon. Shockwave flees from the Autobots but runs into Optimus, who blasts him out of vehicle mode. Just then, a GroundBridge opens and [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]] emerges in plane mode to battle Optimus in the air. Shockwave makes a run for the GroundBridge, but is attacked by Bumblebee and Smokescreen.

While Optimus fends off Soundwave, [[Laserbeak (WFC)|Laserbeak]] deploys and is able to get in close, delivering an electrical shock that sends Optimus crashing to the ground. On the highway overpass above him, Bumblebee and Smokescreen are able to wrest the Predacon fossil away from Shockwave, but not without breaking it, sending a small piece falling over the edge. Optimus rushes back into the air to catch it, but Soundwave activates a second GroundBridge that catches the falling fossil in min-air and deposits it into Megatron's waiting hand aboard the ''Nemesis''. Their mission complete, the Decepticons retreat through the GroundBridge from which Soundwave emerged.

On the ''Nemesis'', Megatron decides that Shockwave is much too valuable to Project Predacon to risk using in the field. Shockwave agrees to confine himself to his lab and leave the task of collecting bones to Starscream. Megatron notes how anxious he is to set his army of beasts on humankind.

With other teams dispatched to find relics, [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] visits the [[Insecticon (Prime)|Insecticon]] hive and calls for a volunteer. [[Hardshell]] steps forward and Megatron sends him and three others to find the fourth and final relic. The four Insecticons arrive in a volcanic region on the equator and immediately split up.

At the Autobot base, [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] watches [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]] leave [[Jack Darby|with]] [[Bumblebee (WFC)|her]] [[Arcee (Prime)|team]] before he is dispatched to the area at the equator. Though he arrives at the correct coordinates, there's no relic there, but his search is interrupted by the approach of Hardshell. The Insecticon attacks Bulkhead and, after a brief exchange of words, the pair fight. Although he takes a few hits, the Wrecker flattens Hardshell, knocking a mandible off the Insecticon in the process. Bulkhead then heads downhill, realizing that an old lava flow may have taken the relic in the same direction. He keeps [[William Fowler|Agent Fowler]] updated back at base via radio. Meanwhile, Hardshell comes to and heads off with the other Insecticons to find their target.

Though leaking energon from his fight, Bulkhead manages to find the relic. Unfortunately, it turns out to be a toxic form of [[Energon]] known as [[Tox-En]], which Megatron could refine into a lethal bio-weapon. Though Fowler suggests bringing it to base, Bulkhead realizes that he's going to have to dispose of it himself, "Wrecker style". Hardshell and the other Insecticons find the vessel shortly after, but as one of them goes to grab the small piece of Tox-En within, the grenade Bulkhead left behind explodes, leaving him fatally riddled with Tox-En shrapnel. Hardshell lets Megatron know about the Tox-En, but Megatron wants to know why Hardshell doesn't have the stuff yet.

Bulkhead, meanwhile, runs away from the volcano with the rest of the Tox-En, leaving a trail of leaking energon to throw off the Insecticons. As he turns and starts to head up the volcano, Bulkhead strikes up a conversation with Fowler about their past war-time careers and discovers they've more in common than they'd previously thought. However, as Bulkhead continues his journey, he begins to feel the effects of the toxic energon and almost succumbs to its spark-sapping properties. After Agent Fowler convinces him to keep going for the sake of duty and family, namely Miko, Bulkhead trudges on.

Meanwhile, Hardshell figures out the false trail, and he and the other Insecticons fly uphill. They catch up to Bulkhead, who has just arrived at the volcano's mouth, and surround him. Bulkhead throws a grenade at one Insecticon and jabs the Tox-En into Hardshell. The third Insecticon charges in bug mode, but Bulkhead decks it with the Tox-En and jabs the chunk into its shell before turning back to face Hardshell. Receiving the news that Miko is safe, Bulkhead begins sparring with Hardshell, though they are both now weakened from the toxic energon. Though Hardshell manages to get the better of Bulkhead, as he moves to finish the Wrecker off, Bulkhead works up the strength to throw Hardshell over to the Tox-En before flinging the monster towards a hole in the caldera crust leading down into the molten lava. Bulkhead then throws the Tox-En to Hardshell, and the dizzied Insecticon falls into the volcano, destroying the toxic relic. As Bulkhead heads for the [[GroundBridge]], Hardshell climbs out of the volcano and shoots the Autobot in the back, sending him flying through the GroundBridge to land within the Autobot base, his back burning. Ratchet, Raf, and Fowler see the smoke coming out of Bulkhead and run to his aid.

* After Hardshell punches Bulkhead during their first fight, the latter's cannons transform into maces without the usual sound effects.
* In the establishing shot of the Tox-En before the commercial break, there are two samples in the container; the larger one which Bulkhead takes with him, and the smaller one he leaves as a booby trap. After the commercial break, the same shot shows only the larger sample.
* When Megatron receives Hardshell's report on the Tox-En, [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]] is standing behind him, with his visor undamaged. This clashes with the continuity of the arc; Soundwave should either be absent from the ship (if he's still embroiled in his relic hunt) or sporting a cracked visor from his battle with [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]], as a later scene in this episode indicates that [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]] is still on his own relic hunt.
* When Bulkhead incapacitates one of the Insecticons with the Tox-En ("Here, hold this!"), it is in its beetle alt-mode. * In "[[Triangulation]]", Bulkhead is shown running through the GroundBridge for his mission. However, in this episode he is shown just walking through the bridge.
* It has been shown previously that Insecticons have blasters, and they show awareness of Tox-En's debilitating effects on their bodies... so why don't any of them try attacking Bulkhead from range, reducing the risk of Tox-En exposure? Even if they're trying to avoid hitting the Tox-En, they could certainly at least flank Bulkhead and attack from opposite sides.
* As Fowler tries to contact Bulkhead during the battle in the volcano's caldera, we see Ratchet and Raf downloading the Iacon database in the background (as seen in [[Triage|the previous episode]]). However, when the same scene was shown in "Triage", Fowler was silent for the duration of Ratchet and Raf's conversation.

* This is the final episode of the four-part relic-hunting arc, all four parts of which happen concurrently. This episode focuses on Bulkhead and Fowler. Fowler's handling of [[Vogel]] in "[[Tunnel Vision]]" and the Antarctic research base in "[[Triangulation]]" are shown from his point of view. Raf is also seen programming the virus that Ratchet installs in [[Laserbeak (WFC)|Laserbeak]] in "[[Triage]]". The ending scene is the same as in "Triage".

The actual hit is obscured (the camera is set behind Hardshell), but it doesn't seem to do any visible damage (although this could be why Bulkhead was leaking energon after the fight). At the end of the fight, meanwhile, Bulkhead clocks Hardshell with a wicked uppercut, knocking off one of his mandibles. The scene plays out in a suspiciously similar fashion to how [[Cliffjumper (WFC)|Cliffjumper]] lost one of his horns to a [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicon]] in "[[Darkness Rising, Part 1]]"; the mandible even sticks point-first in the ground.
* Fowler makes mention of his old Army Ranger days, which he first mentioned in "[[Nemesis Prime (episode)|Nemesis Prime]]".

Down below, [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]] and [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] toss grenades at the base of the fortress and use their new weapons to stave off the [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicon]]s that attack them. Meanwhile Shockwave reaches the bottom of the tower and incarcerates Bulkhead and Wheeljack with a single tank cannon blast, and Arcee and Bumblebee are surrounded by Decepticon troops. Alpha Trion invites Optimus to join with the Allspark. In the cavern, the Optimus's optics flicker out and his chestplate opens up to reveal the Matrix. It reaches visual range of the Decepticons, revealing itself to be Optimus himself, in a new upgraded form. Landing in the throne room, Optimus deals Megatron a series of concussions before smashing the Decepticon leader all the way into the throne. Once the other Decepticons have been dealt with, Magnus deals Starscream a shattering uppercut before briefing Optimus, who sets out to destroy the fusion cannons. The Autobots at the base of the tower, on hearing the news, overthrow their captors.

Enraged, Megatron takes to the air and attempts to shoot down Prime. The news that there are incoming human forces has Starscream order the fusion cannons to fire, but while they're still powering up, Optimus Prime punches Megatron and flings the Decepticon leader directly into the fusion cannon power core, disabling the cannons. The Autobots make a hasty withdrawal as Fowler's squadron unleashes missiles on Darkmount. The Decepticons likewise retreat to their warship. Smokescreen drives up the highway in time to see the fortress come crashing to the ground.

Later, at a military base, Fowler gives the Autobots a speech of thanks. The Autobots note that the Forge's power has been completely drained, but Ratchet assures Smokescreen he made the right choice.

With the Decepticon forces thus scattered, the Autobots bridge to the fortress while Fowler stands ready at a nearby air base with a squadron of jets.

As the report comes in that the Energon Mine is safe and not under attack, [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] demands to know why the Decepticons have been spread so thin. [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]] solves the mystery of where the Autobots are by pointing out the existence of the ''Harbinger'', however before Starscream can dispatch his armada to attack it, Darkmount itself comes under attack. Down below, [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]] and [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] toss grenades at the base of the fortress and use their new weapons to stave off the [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicon]]s that attack them. Meanwhile [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]] and [[Arcee (Prime)|Arcee]] take a more subtle route.

[[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]] humbly suggests releasing the Predacon to repel the attackers. The beast enters the fray, but is quickly distracted by Ultra Magnus's ship. As it attempts to chase Magnus, Ratchet opens a GroundBridge, sending the creature to the Arctic, where it quickly freezes. Shockwave leaves the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]'' and starts jumping down the side of the fortress.

The dying Optimus begins to have a vision of the [[Allspark]] and [[Alpha Trion (Prime)|Alpha Trion]]. Though Prime worries about the fate of the Matrix, his old teacher assures him it will pick a new leader.

Arcee reports to Magnus that she and Bumblebee have run into some trouble and are pinned down. Ultra Magnus decides to take matters into his own hands, entering the fortress and attacking the fusion cannon control room directly. He swiftly takes care of the Decepticons at the controls, only for Megatron himself to arrive. Meanwhile Shockwave reaches the bottom of the tower and incapacitates Bulkhead and Wheeljack with a single cannon blast, and Arcee and Bumblebee are surrounded by Decepticon troops. Ultra Magnus fights well against Megatron, but ultimately loses and is dragged up to the throne room.

Alpha Trion invites Optimus to join with the Allspark. In the cavern, the light in Optimus's eyes goes out and his chest opens to reveal the Matrix. Smokescreen has other ideas, and drags the [[Forge of Solus Prime]] over in order to place it in Optimus's hand. A surge of energy fills the hammer.

As Ultra Magnus won't tell Megatron anything, the Decepticon leader orders the prisoners executed and the fusion cannons fired, however Starscream points out there's something incoming. In the ''Harbinger'', Ratchet also detects the inbound object, and it has an Autobot signature. It reaches visual range of the Decepticons, revealing itself to be Optimus himself, in a new upgraded form. Landing in the throne room, Optimus deals Megatron a series of blows before throwing the Decepticon leader crashing into the throne. Once the other Decepticons have been dealt with, Magnus briefs Optimus, who sets out to destroy the fusion cannons. The Autobots at the base of the tower, on hearing the news, overthrow their captors.

Enraged, Megatron takes to the air and attempts to shoot down Prime. The news that there are incoming human forces has Starscream order the fusion cannons to fire, but while they're still powering up, Optimus Prime punches Megatron and tosses the Decepticon leader directly into the fusion cannon power core, disabling the cannons. The Autobots make a hasty withdrawal as Fowler's squadron unleashes missiles on Darkmount. The Decepticons likewise retreat to their warship. Smokescreen drives up the highway in time to see the fortress come crashing to the ground.

Later, at a military base, Fowler gives the Autobots a speech of thanks. The Autobots note that the Forge's power has been completely drained, but Ratchet assures Smokescreen he made the right choice.

After dodging its initial blast of flame, they try to counterattack, and Wheeljack is knocked flying by the thing's tail. Bulkhead belts the creature shortly before it attacks him with a blast of flame, sending him flying. They quickly realise it's after Wheeljack, who lures it over a grenade. The beast is unscathed by the explosion, so Wheeljack instead leads it into the energon mine before speeding out and setting off the explosions. The dust barely has time to settle before the creature digs its way out. As the Wreckers prepare to fight, Ultra Magnus's ship streaks into view, striking the Predacon with its cannons and picking the trio up. Though a joyous reunion ensues, the ship's still being pursued. His ship's engine is damaged in the chase, and the creature manages to catch up and cling to the hull. Bringing the ship into a narrow canyon, Magnus scraps the Predacon off using a rocky outcropping.

[[William Fowler|Fowler]] gets another call he thinks is from Megatron, but this time it's Ratchet, who has hacked into the Decepticon frequencies. He was later one of a number of Decepticon guardians sent to Earth by Megatron when the planet was seeded with Energon.

In the modern era, he was sought out by [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]], who needed a strong presence to inspire [[Vehicon (Prime)|his troops]] into believing his reign would be a successful one. However, Skyquake was less amiable to the idea, firmly announcing both his loyalty to Megatron and his lack of faith in Starscream's claims of Megatron's death. Before the pair came to blows, Optimus and [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]] appeared on the scene. Skyquake reminded Prime of their encounter during the Battle of Technar, but Optimus still offered both Decepticons a chance at peace. Starscream showed some interest, as long as Optimus bowed to him, causing a frustrated Skyquake to belt him aside and attack Prime. Bumblebee threw himself into the fray but proved more of a distraction than anything else. He did manage to buy Optimus the time to realize Skyquake still lacked a [[Alternate mode|vehicle mode]].[[Image:Masters&Students-SkyquakeDeceased.jpg|thumb|right|250px|I'm okay.]] Using the canyon they were battling in to their advantage, the Autobots managed to corner Skyquake. Skyquake quickly dominated the battle until Bumblebee threw himself on the jet and, as Skyquake tried to shake him off, ripped out his internals. It worked, and Skyquake rose as a [[Terrorcon (Prime)|zombie]], however a [[GroundBridge]] incident transported him to a strange alternate dimension along with the Autobots' human friends [[Miko Nakadai]], [[Jack Darby]] and [[Raf Esquivel]]. After discovering that he couldn't harm the Autobots, who were still in the real world, Skyquake began pursuing the three kids. They managed to find Starscream's arm, left behind during the battle, and used it to shoot Skyquake. This merely resulted in his arm coming off and chasing them. It followed them back through a rescue portal created by [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] and briefly assaulted Starscream before he shook it loose. It ran after him again but Starscream GroundBridged himself away. The Decepticons have discovered a gigantic asteroid composed entirely of [[Dark Energon]], and the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]'' has traveled into Earth's orbit to obtain it. Once the Autobots became aware of this development, Ratchet sends [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]], [[Arcee (Prime)|Arcee]], [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]], and [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] onto the surface of the ''Nemesis'' via [[GroundBridge]] to stop them.

As the other Autobots take care of incoming [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicon Jets]], Optimus fights his way along the ''Nemesis'' deck to the machinery tethering the asteroid. He quickly destroys the generator and the asteroid lags behind... until the Decepticon ship fires three more tethers from underneath. Unable to get a good firing angle on the tethers, the four Autobots leap to the rock in vehicle mode. Facing down a few more Vehicon Jets, Optimus destroys all three tethers quickly using a vehicle-mode ramming attack, but finds himself facing down [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]]. The vehicle-ram move breaks through Megatron's defenses, and by charging up his energy, his upgraded attacks send Megatron reeling.

Just as Optimus gain the upper hand, the asteroid begins to crumble. As Optimus stares into a deep fissure opening at his feet, two yellow dots look back... and the asteroid shatters, its pieces, and the Autobots, plummeting to Earth. Starscream gloats, mocking their inability to fly, but Megatron quickly rebukes him, demanding his minions hunt down both the Autobots to make ''certain'' they perished in the fall, as well as recover as many of the meteorites as possible.

Meanwhile, at [[Autobot Outpost Omega-1]], [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] tries to contact the team. A single lifesign pops up, and he sets out via GroundBridge in the hopes of finding his teammates. But once Ratchet leaves, three more life signatures pop up. Unable to reach Ratchet, [[Jack Darby|Jack]], [[Raf Esquivel|Raf]], and [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]] decide to retrieve the missing Autobots themselves.

Arcee awakens in a factory outside [[Jasper]], [[Nevada]], but is quickly set upon by a swarm of [[Insecticon (Prime)|Insecticons]]. Arcee manages to dispatch them, only to face down [[Airachnid (Prime)|Airachnid]]. The Decepticon tries to stick to the rooftops and launch blaster-bolts and webbing, but Arcee's long-range blasters bring her down. Unfortunately, both bots notice Jack, giving Airachnid the chance to break free and kidnap the human, bolting in copter mode.

Arcee gives chase in cycle mode, dodging blaster fire and blasting fallen highway signs. The chase continues into an unfinished section of road, with Airachnid detonating inconveniently-placed barrels to put big holes in the concrete. She even manages to collapse a section of road, but Arcee performs a vehicle jump and is able to free Jack.

Bulkhead wakes up to Miko's voice. He's fallen through the ceiling of an underground temple, and unfortunately, Starscream has found him mere moments after Miko did. Starscream's missile barrage sets the temple crumbling, and Bulkhead is forced to race through collapsing tunnels and over thin bridges while blasting fallen rocks to clear his path before the entire place can bury them forever.

Once outside, Bulkhead finds himself in a ravine. He fights off squads of Vehicon Cars and Jets, until a [[Vehicon Tank]] shows up, forcing Bulkhead to use a vehicle-mode bash-attack to break through its shields. Bulkhead makes his way through the ravine until he's forced to vehicle-mode jump a crevice to tackle another Tank. With the Vehicons in retreat, Bulkhead reconnoiters with Miko, who is proving very agile and adept at finding shortcuts.

Starscream attacks Bulkhead again as he enters an open-aired temple. Starscream launches missiles from atop several pillars, but Bulkhead's charged-up blaster knocks the Decepticon to the ground. Starscream cowers behind a shield, but a vehicle-mode charge breaks that handily. Even being backed up by more Vehicon Jets doesn't keep Bulkhead from stomping all over Starscream.

However, Miko's been taking phone pictures, leaving her open to getting captured by a Vehicon Jet. Now with a hostage, Starscream can fly away with at least a partial victory....

Bumblebee awakens suspended by energy shackles deep in a Decepticon energon mine. Raf has managed to GroundBridge his way in, and uses his laptop to free Bee and open up locked doors in their way. Bee tackles Vehicon Cars and Jets until he reaches a main shaft, where he meets a new breed of Vehicon, the laser-sniping [[Vehicon Helicopter]]. A few blaster bolts make the raw energon in carts into improv bombs to clear out hiding foes, and Bee charges up the ramp to an elevator that Raf has prepared.

The elevator stops short of ground level, thanks to security protocols. Rav can't hack the security server, forcing Bumblebee to explore the current floor and hunt down two separate computer towers that are blocking Raf's hacking attempts. Once each tower is destroyed, the hall to the security server is open, but guarded by laser beams. Bee's vehicle mode allows him to slip under and through most of them, with some well-timed car jumps to get over low beams. After fighting through swarm of Vehicon Cars, Jets and Helicopters in the server room, Bee is finally able to smash the server itself.

Unfortunately, just as he does, the Vehicons raise the alarm—they've found Raf! Bee charges back to the elevator in vehicle mode, dodging a mass of security lasers and quickly dispatching the Vehicons before they can break through the elevator shield.

Once at ground level, Bee cautions Raf to stay back as he scouts ahead, which proves prudent as Knock Out attempets to run the pair over. Raf shuts the elevator door as Bee takes on the Decepticon medic. Knock Out makes ample use of his vehicle mode attempting to dodge Bee's cannons, but skillful dodging and shooting lets Bumblebee take advantage of openings in Knock Out's attacks. After a while Knock Out reveals a new ability; creating pulsing energy spheres in the hall that do incredible damage when Bee runs into them. Knock Out tries to close the gap and attack at close-rnage, but throws up a shield as Bee pelts him with blaster fire, giving the Autobot an opening for shield-breaking moves that lead into vicious melee combos.

As Knock Out goes down, Bulkhead gets in radio contact with Bumblebee, alerting him to Miko's kidnapping and asking if Raf is all right. Knock Out runs for it, and Bee wrenches open the elevator blast door... but Raf is gone.

Ratchet has located Optimus... under the claw of a monstrously huge robot half-buried in the Dark Energon meteorite. The beast awakens and swats Ratchet away, bellowing "Death to [[Matrix of Leadership|Matrix]]!" as he tries to smash Optimus. Optimus recognizes the robot as [[Thunderwing (Prime)|Thunderwing]], agent of [[Unicron]], and tries to convince him that his master has fallen, thus he should give up his mission... which works about as well as you'd expect. Thunderwing uses his one free arm to hurl explosive bolts at Optimus, as well as cause energy shockwaves by smashing his fist into the ground. Optimus weakens Thunderwing by blasting away at his head, and pummeling his arm cannon with melee attacks when it's within range, until the cannon explodes.

Though Thunderwing has been weakened further, Optimus is unable to continue the battle as the ''Nemesis'' arrives and opens fire on them both. Arcee gets back in radio contact, and opens a GroundBridge for Optimus and Ratchet's escape... unfortunately, on the other side of some hillside ruins from the pair, and will only be open for three minutes!

The normally-straightforward path is blocked by debris thanks to the Decepticon warship's cannons, forcing Optimus to smash through a wall to get around the rubble. ''Nemesis'' cannon-fire, collapsing ledges and a few Vehicon Jets get in the way, but Optimus barrels through, making the final jump in vehicle mode to the GroundBridge portal.

Ratchet is just behind, but more cannon-fire sends him flying backwards. Optimus runs to retrieve his friend, but a stray shot from Thunderwing sends Optimus sailing back into the GroundBridge, which closes immediately after...

An unconscious Thunderwing is brought aboard the ''Nemesis'' and extracted from the meteorite. Knock Out explains that the giant Transformer is still missing parts of his body, perhaps embedded within other chunks of Dark Energon that had fallen to Earth. Megatron has Thunderwing revived, and the giant immediately makes threats. Megatron convinces Thunderwing that he's in no condition to continue his mission, but should he swear his loyalty to Megatron, he can be fully repaired. Thunderwing doesn't buy it, claiming the technology that built him is beyond their scope, but Megatron assures Thunderwing that the captive medic Ratchet can do the job. Ratchet refuses, until Megatron shows him that they have Raf and Miko hostage. Thunderwing agrees to Megatron's deal, saying once the Matrix is destroyed, his loyalty will once again belong only to Unicron... to which Megatron merely smirks and muses "We shall see..."

Bumblebee and Arcee converge on some Decepticon signals in hopes of discovering where their allies are held, with Bumblebee exploring a dark canyon. Bee quickly finds himself in the sights of several Vehicon Helicopters. Boulders strewn through the canyon floor provide cover from the snipers' blasts, allowing Bumblebee to pick them off from a distance. The two Autobots meet up and discover [[Dreadwing (Prime)|Dreadwing]] blasting open a chunk of Dark Energon, revealing a piece of Thunderwing.

Dreadwing blasts off in jet mode, and Bumblebee gives chase in car mode, blasting the proximity mines and fallen rocks Dreadwing leaves in his wake. Bee is forced to jump across a ravine, and the two Autobots finally manage to bring Dreadwing down, with Bee clinging to the Decepticon's jet mode in what must be [[Masters & Students|a very familiar method for Bumblebee]]. Bee and Dreadwing fall into a deeper crevasse, and continue the battle on foot.

Dreadwing makes ample use of the valley's cover, attacking from a distance with his cannon. Shortly into the fight, he launches into the air, dropping a ton of proximity explosives into the field. His blaster cannon also grows progressively more powerful as the fight wears on, but thankfully he must frequently pause to adjust the weapon. The battle is largely a long-range one, as Dreadwing makes closing the gap between them tricky, and he is no slouch at hand-to hand combat either. Bumblebee's upgraded blaster attacks proving especially useful, and eventually, the Decepticon falls.

Dreadwing attempts a last-ditch attack that results in him being buried under several tons of rock. Arcee arrives, but both Autobots are too late as [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]] arrives to take the Thunderwing component and fly away.

After beating Megatron (surprise!), Optimus fights his way up a steep temple to help Bulkhead. In the end, Bulkhead beats Starscream, while Megatron buries Prime in a bunch of rocks and makes off with said piece of Thunderwing.

After fighting to keep the lift functional, Ratchet battles Soundwave, who escapes, leaving Ratchet and the kids alone. Ratchet then attempts contact with Bulkhead.

Ratchet contacts Bulkhead, telling him that the ship is shaking itself apart. Bulkhead fights his way out of the room's rubble, presumably escaping into a GroundBridge.

According to a producer at Activision, the game takes place alongside the second season of the cartoon, but could be "wedged in" anywhere in the season. <ref name="GearingUpforTransformersPrime"/> However, this is impossible thanks to the makeup of the Decepticon team:
* Starscream is the main problem here. He became a rogue agent back in "[[Partners]]", a first-season episode, and did not re-join Megatron's forces until "[[Patch (episode)|Patch]]", the ''twenty-fourth'' episode out of season two's twenty-six-episode run. Yyyyyeah.
** Let's pretend that they kept Starscream in the game as a rogue agent like in the show, which would really only require some cutscene tweaking, right? Well... Starscream lost his [[Transformation cog#Prime cartoon|T-cog]], stripping him of his ability to transform, in "[[Operation Bumblebee, Part 2]]", the episode ''before'' "[[Loose Cannons]]" (Dreadwing's first appearance), and did not get it back until "[[Regeneration (Prime)|Regeneration]]", the episode after "Patch"... and also the episode where Dreadwing dies. Oops. This lack of a T-cog is ''workable'', but would severely strip his usefulness as a major "boss" character in a game.
** Even if you drop Starscream from the game roster altogether (which naturally they would never do), this still only allows the game to occur between the back-to-back episodes "Loose Cannons" and "[[Crossfire]]", where Airachnid bails on Megatron.
* Speaking of Airachnid, her Insecticon minions were only under her control while she too was an independent agent, and really only for the singular episode "[[Armada (episode)|Armada]]". This episode ends with her being locked in stasis (where she remained into season three) and losing control over the swarm to Megatron. And all this happened well before Starscream rejoined Megatron's forces. But if the Decepticons have some new Vehicons we've never seen before or since here, hey, a few smaller, lower-powered Insecticons from a different swarm aren't exactly a stretch.
* And just because we're pedantic like that, there's the lack of [[Smokescreen (Prime)|Smokescreen]], thus it'd more or less have to happen before "[[New Recruit]]".

In the modern era, he was sought out by [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]], who needed a strong presence to inspire [[Vehicon (Prime)|his troops]] into believing his reign would be a successful one. However, Skyquake was less amiable to the idea, firmly announcing both his loyalty to Megatron and his lack of faith in Starscream's claims of Megatron's death. Before the pair came to blows, Optimus and [[Bumblebee (WFC)|Bumblebee]] appeared on the scene. Skyquake reminded Prime of their encounter during the Battle of Technar, but Optimus still offered both Decepticons a chance at peace. Starscream showed some interest, as long as Optimus bowed to him, causing a frustrated Skyquake to belt him aside and attack Prime. Bumblebee threw himself into the fray but proved more of a distraction than anything else. He did manage to buy Optimus the time to realize Skyquake still lacked a [[Alternate mode|vehicle mode]].[[Image:Masters&Students-SkyquakeDeceased.jpg|thumb|right|250px|I'm okay.]] Using the canyon they were battling in to their advantage, the Autobots managed to corner Skyquake. Unfortunately, [[William Fowler|Agent Fowler]] appeared in a [[Fowler's V-tol|high-tech military jet]], which Skyquake immediately [[Scanning|scanned]].

Skyquake quickly dominated the battle until Bumblebee threw himself on the jet and, as Skyquake tried to shake him off, ripped out his internals. Bumblebee jumped onto Fowler's plane as a heavily-injured Skyquake crashed into the ground. After Skyquake closed his optics for possibly one last time, Prime sadly noted how things might have been different, before burying the Decepticon. {{storylink|Masters & Students}} Dreadwing sensed his brother's emergence from stasis and later death. {{storylink|Loose Cannons}}

Some time later, Starscream attempted to resurrect Skyquake using the chunk of [[Dark Energon]] that he ripped from Megatron's chest. It worked, and Skyquake rose as a [[Terrorcon (Prime)|zombie]], however a [[GroundBridge]] incident transported him to a strange alternate dimension along with the Autobots' human friends [[Miko Nakadai]], [[Jack Darby]] and [[Raf Esquivel]]. After discovering that he couldn't harm the Autobots, who were still in the real world, Skyquake began pursuing the three kids. They managed to find Starscream's arm, left behind during the battle, and used it to shoot Skyquake. This merely resulted in his arm coming off and chasing them. It followed them back through a rescue portal created by [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] and briefly assaulted Starscream before he shook it loose. It ran after him again but Starscream GroundBridged himself away. The rest of Skyquake continued to roam the [[shadowzone (dimension)|shadowzone]] and made a vain attempt to repair himself with Starscream's lost arm. {{Storylink|Shadowzone (episode)|Shadowzone}} Megatron wasn't happy about Starscream using the Dark Energon shard that was previously merged with his Spark to bring Skyquake back, among other things. {{storylink|Rock Bottom}}

Dreadwing was drawn to Earth after feeling his twin's death, where Megatron and [[Soundwave (WFC)|Soundwave]] confirmed his loss. Dreadwing swore the Autobots would pay for offlining his brother, though his attempts to gain revenge were unsuccessful. {{storylink|Loose Cannons}} Starscream encountered Dreadwing at the Antarctic, but at first mistook him for Skyquake before being corrected. When Starscream obtained the [[Apex Armor (Prime)|Apex Armor]], he prepared to reunite Dreadwing with his twin before Dreadwing blew a hole in the ice, into which Starscream fell. Optimus Prime expressed his remorse for his part in Skyquake's death and extended the same offer of a place in the Autobot ranks to Dreadwing. {{storylink|Triangulation}} Megatron used the oath Dreadwing swore on Skyquake's demise to get him to open the coffin of a Prime, rather than simply opening it himself. {{storylink|Alpha/Omega}}

While Megatron was using a [[cortical psychic patch]] to interrogate Starscream, Dreadwing finally learned his brother's ultimate fate, roaming the shadow dimension as a zombie, and was more than a little upset. {{storylink|Patch (episode)|Patch}} As a result, Dreadwing turned the [[Forge of Solus Prime]] over to the Autobots before attempting to avenge his brother by killing Starscream. ==Synopsis==
[[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]] and [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] are both surprised to see [[Shockwave (WFC)|Shockwave]], having believed him dead. Shockwave explains that after his battle with [[Arcee (Prime)|Arcee]] and [[Cliffjumper (WFC)|Cliffjumper]] in the [[space bridge]], he found himself marooned on [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]]. After repairing himself, he continued his experiments until an energy surge led him to [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]]'s team in the [[Rust Sea|Sea of Rust]]. He asks Starscream pointedly why he was left for dead, and judges the response logical enough. Megatron appoints Shockwave first lieutenant in charge of science, something Starscream doesn't seem that happy with.

[[Jack Darby|Jack]] and Arcee stop at a deserted farmhouse for a break and Jack worries that they're all that's left of Team Prime. Arcee says there are other Autobots out there who escaped in the [[Ark (WFC)|Ark]], but who knows where they are? Meanwhile [[Raf Esquivel|Raf]] is surfing [[Internet|conspiracy websites]] in search of [[Autobot]] sightings. He hits dirt in the form of a photo of [[Ratchet (WFC)|Ratchet]] in a junkyard outside Woodland Park. Starscream, doing likewise, finds the same picture, but before he can draw the other Decepticons' attention to it, Raf replaces the picture with a dancing monkey. To quell Megatron's displeasure, Shockwave suggests using a [[cortical psychic patch]] on [[Wheeljack (Prime)|Wheeljack]]. Meanwhile, [[Bulkhead (Prime)|Bulkhead]] and [[Miko Nakadai|Miko]] are waiting fruitlessly at the Wrecker meeting spot.

Shockwave reports that the patch didn't yield any new information. Starscream announces he'll see to Wheeljack's termination, and soon Wheeljack is standing on a platform over lava. The attendant [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicon]]s push Wheeljack towards the edge, but he grabs one of them and throws it off before jumping himself. The Vehicon transforms to flight mode, and Wheeljack lands on its back, proceeding to go on a Vehicon-trashing flight before driving off. Megatron is very upset until Starscream reveals he's planted a tracking device on Wheeljack so the Autobot can lead them to his friends.

Bumblebee and Raf reach the junkyard to find Ratchet sitting in vehicle mode and sporting the surliest mood as the Autobots have patently lost. The pair suggest that they can use the ''Harbinger''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s resources to fight back, but Ratchet has no hope they can do anything, and tells them to leave him alone.

Meanwhile, [[Smokescreen (Prime)|Smokescreen]] has been unable to salvage anything medical from the ruins of the base. When [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus]] asks about the [[Forge of Solus Prime]], Smokescreen reasons it must be in the fortress somewhere, and goes to look.

Bulkhead and Miko's waiting is finally rewarded by the arrival of Wheeljack. The Decepticons, monitoring Starscream's bug, see that their plan has paid off, and Starscream sends out his Vehicon seekers. The Decepticons arrive at a river, but all they see is a log floating downstream. The log turns out to have both the tracking device and a grenade attached, the latter of which takes them all out. Watching from a nearby hill, Wheeljack reveals how he found the tracking device, and says he has some more explosives.

Raf and Bumblebee try unsuccessfully to power up the ''Harbinger'', only to be pleasantly surprised when Ratchet arrives to help. Elsewhere, Jack and Arcee's journey is interrupted by the surprise arrival of a starship. It lands in front of them and out steps none-other than [[Ultra Magnus (WFC)|Ultra Magnus]].

On the ''Nemesis'', Megatron rages over Starscream's failure, but Shockwave reveals he has a wild card of his own, sitting in his lab on Cybertron. Taking a trip back to their home planet, Shockwave returns through the space bridge with the huge [[Predacon (Prime)|Predacon]] he has cloned.
