{{disambig3.5|the evil Autobot Dinobot|his heroic counterpart|Grimlock (G1)|Grimlock}}
:''Grimlock is an evil [[Autobot]] [[Dinobot (SG)|Dinobot]] from the [[Transformers: Shattered Glass (franchise)|Shattered Glass]] [[continuity family]].''
[[File:Grimlock tl.jpg|upright=1.66|thumb|[[Grimlock's New Brain|I, Grimlock]], say you are DOOMED.]]
'''Grimlock''' was born in a [[Decepticon]] lab as a warrior who would run on artificial intelligence instead of an [[Spark|ember]], but [[Megatron (SG)|Megatron]] ordered his deactivation after his violent tendencies emerged and overrode his logic subroutines. He was put into storage with every intention of never using him again. However, when [[Optimus Prime (SG)|Optimus Prime]] heard of his creation, he stole and reactivated Grimlock. Given the chance to engage in the violence for which he yearned so much, Grimlock eagerly became Prime's most powerful warrior, not stopping for anything except deactivation, having not a single shred of mercy or self-control. "I wish I had a thousand more like him!" said Optimus Prime on multiple occasions. Thank [[Primus]] he doesn't.<ref>BotCon 2008 ''Timelines'' Grimlock bio card</ref>

Following an encounter with the [[Omega Terminus]], Grimlock was granted an ember, a true cybernetic personality, and the ability to transform into a [[robot mode]]. In this new form, he is gifted with remarkable intelligence, a wicked scheming streak, and a delightfully wry sense of humor, wot? However, the mindless violence that once governed his thought processes has not been entirely excised; should robot mode Grimlock lose his temper, he will involuntarily transform back into his dinosaur form, and his mind will be overwhelmed with the uncontrollable ferocity for which he is so well known.<ref>Depiction in ''Shattered Glass'' prose stories</ref>

{{quote|Oh, yes, it is I, Grimlock... and so much more now. To be specific, that would be 'so much more than you, now'. It does appear that there are certain linguistic idiosyncrasies that I, Grimlock, am still stuck with, however.
==Fiction==
===Shattered Expectations===
Grimlock proved himself to be the smartest (and most humble) of the Autobots raiding the secret [[Pretender]] lab. Insulted by [[Goldbug (SG)|Goldbug]] relegating him to the position of mere attack dog, he nonetheless fell for a [[Predacon (SG)|Predacon]] ruse and was ambushed by the [[Mayhem Suppression Squad]]. {{storylink|Shattered Expectations (SG)|Shattered Expectations}}
[[File:Sgpredaconsvsgrimlock.jpg|left|upright=1.66|thumb|I need not express my intellect. Me speak dumb for now.]]
At some point after joining the Autobots, Grimlock was subject to an experiment by the egotistical combiner [[Computron (SG)|Computron]] meant to increase Grim's intelligence. It didn't work, and in fact managed to ruin Computron and his constituents' own mental stability. {{storylink|Hasbro Transformers Collectors' Club issue 27|SG Computron profile}}

Grimlock was with the [[Autobot]]s when the Decepticons attacked the ''[[Ark (SG)|Ark]]''<nowiki>'</nowiki>s launching platform. Optimus sicced him on the Decepticons, and he very quickly ended up in a tussle with the Predacons. {{storylink|Shattered Glass (issue)|Shattered Glass}}

When the deranged Autobot scientist [[Wheeljack (SG)|Wheeljack]] succeeded in modifying and duplicating Grimlock's artificial intelligence matrix, he was able to give life to an entire herd of [[Dinobot (SG)|Dinobot]]s. With Grimlock at the head of the pack, Wheeljack unleashed his creations into the middle of a battle between the Autobots and Decepticons, only for the mindless monsters to wind up fighting amongst themselves. As the out-of-control Dinobots proceeded to run wild across [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]], Grimlock began to hear a mysterious disembodied voice that gave him directions to follow, and he obeyed it without argument, pausing on his way only long enough for a minor altercation with [[Huffer (SG)|Huffer]]. Trekking deep into the [[Rad Zone]], Grimlock ventured into a series of tunnels that led him to the chamber of the life-giving mega-computer, Omega Terminus, the owner of the voice that had lured him into its presence.

[[File:Dungeonsanddinobots grimlock transformed.jpg|thumb|upright=1.66|No, Mr. Jumper, I expect you to die!]]
Grimlock was hidden beneath a pile of scrap at the feet of the Omega Terminus when [[Cliffjumper (G1)/Marvel Comics continuity|Cliffjumper]], [[Sideswipe (SG)|Sideswipe]], [[Blurr (SG)|Blurr]], and [[Rodimus (SG)|Rodimus]] eventually succeeded in tracking him to the chamber sometime later. When Rodimus proposed an alliance between the four to take control of Omega Terminus, and Cybertron by extension, Grimlock rose from his hiding place to oppose the idea, and was promptly struck by a bolt of energy from the Terminus. Bestowed with true life by the mega-computer, Grimlock shocked all present by transforming into a [[robot mode]] he was never meant to have, and displaying remarkable intelligence. With a quartet of corpses reanimated by the Terminus's power backing him up, Grimlock engaged his opponents in battle, so enraged by Rodimus's interruption of his monologue that he inadvertently transformed back into his dinosaur mode. Although the unlikely team was able to take down their zombie opponents, Grimlock succeeded in knocking them all off the edge of the narrow dais upon which the Terminus rested, then shifted back to robot mode to gloat as they all clung to the edge of the platform. When Blurr began deliberately goading him, Grimlock assumed he was trying to make him angry and force a change back to his dinosaur mode. In actuality, Blurr was distracting Grimlock long enough for Cliffjumper to haul himself up to safety. The small Autobot shoulder-charged Grimlock, who toppled into the bottomless chasm above which the platform hung.

Blurr and Rodimus returned to the Autobot base to inform Optimus Prime of Grimlock's destruction... only to have the lie put into their words mere moments later, when a fully functional Grimlock came strolling into the Autobot base none the worse for wear. Prime was enraged to discover that his greatest weapon had become free-willed, but when Grimlock displayed his new robot mode and intelligence by quickly identifying a potential error in the fuel system of Prime's ''Ark'' blueprints, the Autobot leader was convinced to let him remain in one piece.

Some time later, Grimlock snuck into the corral the Decepticons had established to hold the Dinobots they had gathered up, promising to take all the Dinobots to the Omega Terminus... {{storylink|Dungeons & Dinobots}}

When the ''Ark'' ended up launching without Optimus Prime aboard, Grimlock was one of the Autobots that Rodimus threw off the ship for being too loyal to Prime. {{storylink|Do Over}}

Afterwards, he got to happily eat Blurr, as Blurr's punishment for failing to stop Rodimus' mutiny. {{storylink|Reunification: Part 3}}
His spring-loaded bayonet missile launcher can be hand-held in [[robot mode]] or mounted on his dino mode's back, and his multi-jointed dino-mode tail detaches to form a hand-held whip weapon.

: As a redeco of the ''Classics'' Grimlock mold, he suffers from a few common issues carried from the mold: the size of the peg that locks his arms in place is too small in relation to the peg-hole, making it difficult to keep him transformed. The black shoulder flaps above this assembly are meant to tab into these and lock the whole thing together, but the flaps don't align properly and the tabs themselves are too short to even reach the slots. In addition, the bayonet blaster has a hair-trigger and his fist holes are a few fractions of a millimeter too small to accommodate standard [[5 mm post]] accessories that most modern ''Transformers'' toys use.

: Grimlock was only available as part of a set of six toys, along with [[Optimus Prime (SG)#Toys|Optimus Prime]], [[Jazz (SG)#Toys|Autobot Jazz]], [[Goldbug (SG)#Toys|Goldbug]], [[Razorclaw (SG)#Toys|Razorclaw]], and [[Starscream (SG)#Toys|Starscream]].
*The "super-intelligent, well-spoken criminal genius" Grimlock was originally created for the April Fool's "Shattered Expectations" comic, as a direct inversion of Grimlock's normally dim, caveman-esque portrayal. He proved so overwhelmingly popular that the "real" Shattered Glass version of the character—nothing more than a slavering monster—later underwent a personality upgrade to become just like him.
The '''Apex Armor''' is one of the [[Artifacts of the Primes|relics]] of the [[Thirteen]] (or an armor of Decepticon design; it depends [[Alpha Trion|on who]] [[Starscream (WFC)|you ask]]). While normally compacted in a disk, when placed over a Transformer's chest it will expand into a huge set of armor impervious to any attack, as well as enhance the wearer's strength. Though built for Cybertronians, the artifact can also be used by humans, forming a proportionally smaller but no less invincible set of armor.

==Fiction==
===''Exiles''===
The Apex Armor was created by [[Solus Prime]]. Long after, while waiting for the [[Autobot]]s on Cybertron, [[Alpha Trion]] had a few daydreams about [[Optimus Prime (WFC)|Optimus Prime]] returning with the relic, as well as the [[AllSpark]] and other lost and legendary treasures. {{storylink|Transformers: Exiles|Exiles}}

===''Prime'' cartoon===
The Apex Armor was stored in the [[Iacon (polity)|Iacon]] [[Vaults]] until late in the war when [[Megatron (WFC)|Megatron]]'s forces stormed Iacon. Along with the other relics, it was ejected into space and eventually found its way to [[Earth]], where it ended up in the [[Antarctica|Antarctic]]. Its location was decrypted by the ''[[Trypticon (WFC)|Nemesis]]'' when it temporarily gained sentience. {{storylink|Flying Mind}} Megatron dispatched [[Dreadwing (Prime)|Dreadwing]] to obtain it while Optimus went there personally. At the same time, a curious [[Starscream (WFC)|Starscream]] also went to Antarctica to investigate the Decepticon activity. Upon reaching the relic's coordinates, it was discovered that a human research team had found it first and took it back to their base. Eventually, the three factions discovered the relic. While Optimus Prime and Dreadwing were fighting each other over it, Starscream decided to claim it for himself. He pulled it from the ice it was encased in and identified it as armor of Decepticon design. When he placed the roughly disc shaped object to his chest, it expanded over him into a full body armor suit that towered over both Optimus and Dreadwing. It proved to be a very powerful weapon, allowing him to survive any attack Optimus Prime and Dreadwing threw at him. It was impervious to Dreadwing's sword and energy blasts only served to stagger him. He had heightened strength, but the armor did not have any weapons, nor did it restore his ability to transform. When Optimus and Dreadwing used explosives to send Starscream through the icy ground into the sea below, the armor allowed Starscream to survive and walk along the ocean floor. {{storylink|Triangulation}} Megatron was displeased with Dreadwing's failure to obtain the armor. {{storylink|Triage (episode)|Triage}}

Starscream took the Apex Armor with him when he went to retrieve some [[Red Energon]]. During a showdown in a dock, it enabled him to throw Prime around and nearly upend a crane. Unfortunately then [[Smokescreen (Prime)|Smokescreen]] showed up with a [[phase shifter]] and kicked Starscream right out of the armor. The Apex Armor was subsequently taken back to the [[Autobot Outpost Omega One|Autobot Base]]. {{storylink|New Recruit}} Smokescreen offered it to Bulkhead who was still recovering from his injuries, but the Wrecker was offended by the very idea he'd need a crutch, and swatted the armor out of his hand. {{storylink|The Human Factor}}

[[File:ChainOfCommand Miko clobbering time.jpg|thumb|left|"Aw, slag. You never warned us they WORE ARMOR, STARSCREAM!"|upright=1.4]]
[[Arcee (WFC)|Arcee]] used the armor when the Autobots returned to [[Cybertron (planet)|Cybertron]] to try to recapture the [[Omega Key]]s, and was able to knock the [[Vehicon (Prime)|Vehicons]] around with it. {{storylink|Regeneration (Prime)|Regeneration}} After the Decepticons took the kids hostage, Arcee was forced to take off the Apex Armor and throw it to the ground. {{storylink|Darkest Hour (episode)|Darkest Hour}} [[Knock Out (Prime)|Knock Out]] and a team of Decepticons later found it intact in the devastated area around the [[Omega Lock]]. {{storylink|Darkmount, NV}}

After his initial attempts to train [[Predaking (Prime)|Predaking]] proved a hazard to continued existence, Starscream equipped the Apex Armor to shield himself from its outbursts. Unfortunately for him, the armor did nothing to stop Predaking from tossing him around like a chew toy. Starscream brought the armor along when he was ordered to use Predaking to retrieve a Predacon bone fragment. He took it off once he was certain Predaking was occupied, allowing [[Miko Nakadai]] to take possession of it when she tried to get past him into [[Ultra Magnus (WFC)|Ultra Magnus']] ship. Predaking overpowered the Armor-clad Miko, but failed to do any actual damage to the armor itself. When Predaking was ordered away by Megatron, Miko swiftly put the armor to good use by pummeling Starscream and his attendant Vehicons. Unable to divest her of the armor and faced with incoming Autobot backup, Starscream was forced to leave it with the Autobots. {{storylink|Chain of Command (Prime)|Chain of Command}}

Miko once again donned the armor to aid Jack in securing the bridge of the ''Nemesis''. She made short work of the Vehicon guards, then goaded Soundwave into using a GroundBridge so Raf could open a second one behind him, thus trapping him in the [[Shadowzone (dimension)|shadowzone]]. She stood guard while Jack figured out how to pilot the ship, then later decked Knock Out when he tried to switch sides. {{storylink|Deadlock (episode)|Deadlock}}
*'''Apex Hunter Armor with Breakdown''' (Cyberverse Vehicle, 2013)
**''Series/Number'': '''3 / 002'''
**''Accessories'': Large missile-firing blaster, four missiles, small blaster
{{toydesigner|[[Joe Kyde]] (Hasbro)}}

: Part of the first wave of ''[[Transformers: Prime (toyline)|Prime:]] [[Transformers:_Prime_(toyline)#Beast_Hunters_.282013.29|Beast Hunters]]'' [[Cyberverse (toyline)#Series 3|Series 3 Cyberverse]] Vehicle playsets, the "Apex Hunter Armor" is a [[redeco]] and extensive [[retool]] of the [[Bumblebee Battle Suit]], and is a large, vaguely humanoid combat suit with [[articulation]] at the hips, elbows, and shoulders (although the shoulders only rotate laterally, not forward and backward, making their use rather limited). The cockpit in the torso can hold a single Cyberverse figure, and the armor features "crusher claws" for hands. The claws are spring-loaded to remain open, and can snap shut when a protruding [[5 mm post|5 mm peg-hole]] on top of either forearm is pulled back.

:The armor has 5 mm peg-holes near the claw joints for holding the included main weapon, a massive four-barreled blaster that fires its four [[missile]]s in quick succession via pressure-launch. The armor is also festooned with numerous [[C joint]] bars, as well as both 3 mm and 5 mm holes, for mounting all sorts of additional weaponry.

:The Apex Hunter Armor transforms into a rolling battle station, not dissimilar to the one [[Optimus Maximus (Prime)|Optimus Maximus]] becomes (though the Apex Armor's transformation is more involved). In this mode, two additional (non-firing) cannon barrels rotate up and over the armor's shoulders, and a platform is flipped up from behind the armor to provide a place for two additional Cyberverse figures to stand and hold onto handlebars mounted on the armor's back. The transformation also allows the C joint clips and bars on the outer sides of the armor's split treads/legs to be used for connecting to other Cyberverse playsets, while revealing another 5 mm hole that was previously located inside the armor's cockpit; the missile-firing blaster can be mounted in this hole and "manned" by a Cyberverse figure holding the handlebars on the back of the gun.

:For this retool, the "[[Energon Booster]]", its wire, as well as all of its associated electronics, have been removed, and while the battery compartment at the back can still be opened, there are neither batteries, metal plates, nor springs present. Interestingly, the plastic ridges on the back of the armor, meant to provide a place to coil the now-nonexistent booster's wire, are still present, and the opaque-plastic back panel at the top of the armor is still compatible with the booster accessory, with the newly-molded panel even featuring a sculpted crosshair at the other end of its booster plug.

:In order for the armor to fit in its [[packaging]], it is minimally mis-transformed, with the front treads that make up part of its feet not being flipped out and tabbed into slots on the rear treads. Unusually, the front treads have even been sculpted with dents to accommodate the rear treads while in this mis-transformed position.

:Included with the Apex Hunter Armor is [[Breakdown (WFC)#CyberverseApexArmor|a redeco of the Legion Class Breakdown toy]], and a normal purple version of his blaster. The Breakdown mold was also redecoed into [[Cyberverse (toyline)#Series 2|Series 2 Cyberverse]] [[Fallback (Prime)|Fallback]] and ''[[Transformers: The Last Knight (toyline)|The Last Knight]]'' [[Berserker#MtCWalmart2Pack|Berserker]].

:Part of the third wave of ''[[Transformers: Age of the Primes|Age of the Primes]]'' Deluxes, Micronus Prime is a figure of the character based on his appearance in the 2015 ''Robots in Disguise'' cartoon. He transforms into a disc-shaped alternate mode reminiscent of the [[Mini-Con storage panel|Mini-Con storage panels]] from ''[[Transformers: Armada (cartoon)| Armada]]'', with one side having a large Mini-Con sigil printed on it.

:Filling out the requirements of the "Deluxe" size class, the tiny Micronus comes with a one-wheeled vehicle he can ride on. The cycle transforms into an exo-suit that bears resemblance to the [[Apex Armor (Prime)|Apex Armor]] from ''[[Transformers: Prime (cartoon)| Prime]]'', into which Micronus can fit in disc mode, and can also disassemble into component parts that can be wielded as weapons by larger figures, in the style of the ''[[War for Cybertron: Siege|Siege]]'' [[C.O.M.B.A.T. System|Weaponizers]] and their various successor lines. Micronus also includes his artifact the Chimera Stone as an accessory, which can store on his back in both robot and alternate modes, or peg into the chest of the larger exo-suit accessory.
