Copyright Info
[edit]I copied the info from another user-taken toy photo page that seemed to be correct (no edits, at least) and changed the details accordingly - exactly what else should be on it? I took the pic tonight, of a toy I own. What's the correct format? --Kookaburra 03:26, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- I tend to use {{hastak}} on the basis that, though I took the picture, it's of something that's owned by Hasbro/Takara. Though putting the fairuse one on there as well is probably overkill, since the hastak template has "Fair Use" written in big letters at the top of it. :) --abates 04:02, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- That makes sense, but it still says "To the uploader: Please add a more specific copyright tag (including copyright holder & year) if available". I used Henkei Ratchet's toy photo as an info template. --Kookaburra 04:16, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- The {{hastak}} is usually enough when it comes to the toys. The only thing left is the year it came out and which company it was released by. {{fairuse}} would be more for photos of people that have worked on TF in any form (e.g., comics, voice actors), or is affiliated with Hasbro/TakaraTomy in some form (e.g., toy designers, marketing). --Lonegamer78 05:17, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- But it still makes it look like there's info missing, and it implies that this is a Hasbro/Takara image, which it is not. Also, other photos taken by users do not have the HasTak box added, so why does this one?--Kookaburra 12:33, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- I think the problem is that we could really use a specific tag just for toy pics, with a stock/user-taken/fansite switch of some kind. --Jeysie 12:38, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- An official tag would definitely be good - and instead of just © 2009 TakaraTomy, which says that the 'picture' is theirs, it should say " 'Henkei! Henkei! Alert' character and likeness ©TakaraTomy/Hasbro " (or something like that - I just woke up, my copyright-ese is foggy) so that it's obvious the 'character' is what's copyrighted by them, not the photo.--Kookaburra 12:49, 30 March 2010 (EDT)

- I don't think Hasbro has any copyright claims to photographs of toys. People are generally allowed to freely take pictures of stuff. Freedom of the press and whatnot. I don't think {{hastak}} is necessary. For pictures I have taken, I put "Photo by User:Starfield, released to the public domain." Toys aren't copyrighted they are trademarked or something. Disclaimer: I am by no means a copyright lawyer. - Starfield 12:51, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- Yeah, I don't put the Hastak tag on my photographs because the photograph is my property. It's my image, not Hasbro's. Or, well, it is until I put it up on the wiki. --ItsWalky 13:38, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- So, would it fall under {{fairuse}}? --Lonegamer78 14:22, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- But it's not fair use, it's public domain. And the fair use tag still implies that the info is incomplete. --Kookaburra 14:35, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- In that case, what proper tag would be used on toy photos? (Sorry, I just feel a might twitchy on images without proper tags) --Lonegamer78 14:44, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- Personally, I don't put any tag. The copyright holder as the photographer was me, so I don't think I need to specify anything unless I choose to. --ItsWalky 14:52, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- I think it was kind of crazy to suggest we use {{hastak}} on our own photos, which implied that Hasbro/TakaraTomy owned them in some way. Haskara has no possible copyright claim on our own photography, as far as I know. And if we own the toy, we can do whatever the hell we want with them, short of say, bootlegging them. --FFN 15:00, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- Should we have a public domain template then? --abates 15:27, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
- I say yeah. The others have a good point. (And then that brings up on stock photos) --Lonegamer78 15:36, 30 March 2010 (EDT)

- But aren't tags placeholder info for images without proper attribution? It says so right on the bottom: To the uploader: Please include the owner of the copyright; and use a more specific copyright tag, if available. --Kookaburra 15:03, 30 March 2010 (EDT)
