When the dogs start behaving strangely near the Academy, Hoist sees the investigation as an opportunity to try out his new communications system.

Synopsis

[edit]

Heatwave and Cody are working on repairs when they're interrupted by Hoist who is testing a new comms system he's dubbed a "talkie squawkie". It's intended to be inaudible to humans so the Bots can use it while in Milford where the humans don't know about Transformers. The pair head to Hero Hall only to find Whirl also testing a talkie squawkie. They instead head to Heatwave's office, where Heatwave gets a transmission from Medix which Cody can't hear. Though intrigued, Heatwave says the system needs to be tested properly before it can be used.

Meanwhile Wedge and Hot Shot are repairing roads—Hot Shot is in Bot form because the city's population are all at the Milford Founders Festival. Repairs complete, Wedge is ready to head home, but Hot Shot is distracted by some dogs at a nearby farm. The pair are contacted by Hoist over the talkie squawkie, at which point the farm animals kick up a ruckus and Heatwave, trying to get the recruits out of his hair, orders them to investigate. Hot Shot observes that the animals seem to have calmed down.

The other recruits arrive and, spying the incoming farmer, warn Hot Shot and Wedge. The animals go nuts again, and the two farm dogs flee through the open gate. The recruits head into Milford to look for the dogs and split into teams. Hot Shot's team finds the dogs in an alley, but when Hoist tries to contact the others with the good news, the dogs run off again. After a short chase, the Bots catch up, but Whirl has realized that it's the talkie squawkies that are causing the dogs to go wild. Finally they manage to find the two dogs again outside the stadium, but discover they themselves are now lost and Hoist has disabled their regular comm system. Hot Shot instructs the two dogs to "fetch", and the recruits simply follow the dogs back to the farm. Back at the academy, Hoist admits he based his system on a dog whistle, which it turns out Bots can also hear.

Quotes

[edit]

"The whole morning? Hand me that walkie talkie squawkie thing-a-me-bot. Hot Shot, it is vital that you investigate. In fact it is so important that I shall send your fellow students to help. Immediately."

Heatwave is not keen on the new system.

"Hmm, you don't think-"
"No time for thinking, Whirl!"
