Medix doesn't like surprises, but the other recruits decide that it's only because he's never had the right kind of surprise, so they set up a Medix-themed rescue mission with disastrous results.
Synopsis
[edit]Cody has just graduated at the top of his EMT training class, and Heatwave enlists the recruits to help surprise him with the certificate. Medix, not one for surprises, is quick to question the point of surprising Cody. Heatwave understands and assigns the doc-bot the task of getting Cody. Hot Shot's about to suggest they have fireworks, but Heatwave shoots him down.
Medix returns to Heatwave's office with Cody to find room is empty and the light's off. Medix, now on alert, heads inside and grabs a fire extinguisher, and when he turns on the lights, everyone pops out behind Heatwave's desk, causing Medix to spray them with foam in alarm. After they congratulate Cody, the other recruits argue with Medix over his use of a fire extinguisher, resulting in Medix leaving for his chores in frustration. The recruits then decide to surprise him with things he likes so he understands surprises. They begin by surprising him with new bandages, interrupting his shelf organization. Unfortunately, his shelves are fully stocked, and Wedge's attempt at making room leads to the bandages spilling out and covering both Medix and the floor.
Medix next goes to do his scheduled leaf cleanup, only to find the others have already done it, and complains that their surprised has messed up his schedule. He later finds the recruits watching a film featuring the invention of thermometers, is suspicious that it's another attempt at a surprise. When Whirl just flat-out spoils the twist ending, Medix has finally had enough of the surprises and storms out of the room.
Wracking their brains, they hit on the idea a Medix-themed surprise mission. When they present the facts to Medix, he quickly sets off to the rescue, not realizing that the other recruits haven't followed him. He quickly finds Tough Luck Chuck in a geyser field, and with the rest of the team observing from a hiding spot, picks up the bot. Chuck's loud announcement of "surprise" startles him, and he accidentally drops Chuck into a geyser. The other recruits quickly see the surprise went downhill, and spill the beans to their friend as the fake rescue becomes a real one.
As the geysers throw Chuck into the air, the recruits unsuccessfully try to grab him and quickly learn why Medix hates surprises. To avoid Chuck emerging from a random geyser, they use rocks to plug all but one of the openings, though Hot Shot is forced to block one with his own butt. This time, the rescue is a success, though Hot Shot is fired into the air by the geyser he's sitting on.
As Medix tries to force the water out of Chuck, the recruits apologize for recent events, and promise to stop with the surprises, even Whirl's upside-down yodeling. They themselves are promptly surprised when Medix presents the new medical kits, and it all ends well.

[edit]- Griffin Rock having a geyser field nearby isn't odd, as back in "Rules and Regulations", the Rescue Bots visited Griffin Crest, site of the active geyser Old Parker. Unless the EMP field present back then was removed at some point and more geysers sprang up, this area is presumably elsewhere.

[edit]- Though Medix's dialogue suggests there are only six geysers, several shots show more. Up to fourteen appear as Medix first heads in.
