[[Springer (G1)|Springer]] sardonically referred to the [[Aerialbot (G1)|Aerialbots]] aboard [[Broadside (G1)|Broadside]] as the Autobot fleet and dispatched them to extradite [[Hot Rod (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Rodimus Prime]]'s group from [[Quintessa (planet)|Quintessa]]. {{storylink|Five Faces of Darkness, Part 2}}

When [[Optimus Prime (G1)/Generation 1 cartoon continuity|Optimus Prime]] was revived by the [[Quintesson]]s, his brainwashing led him to lead the Autobot fleet into the path of a Quintesson doomsday device called "The Detonator". As per the Quintessons' plan, the Autobot fleet was utterly decimated by the Quintesson weapons, only being saved by the [[Matrix of Leadership]] purifying the malicious coding in Optimus's mind who ordered what remained of the fleet to return to Cybertron while he rammed the flagship into The Detonator, dying once again but saving his people. {{storylink|Dark Awakening (episode)|Dark Awakening}}

In the 1700s, [[Bumblebee (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Bumblebee]], after a disastrous adventure on the planet [[Xetaxxis]], climbed into the [[Magnus Armor]], its recall function returning the scout to the Autobot fleet where reported on the mission to [[Autobot High Command]]. {{storylink|Shining Armor issue 5|Shining Armor #5}}

During the [[Expansion]], the fleet came under attack from the forces of the [[Dead Universe]] the ''[[Ark-12]]'' in particular suffering heavy damage. {{storylink|Spotlight: Cyclonus}}

Some years later, [[Sunstreaker (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Sunstreaker]] betrayed the Autobots to [[Starscream (G1)/IDW Generation 1 continuity|Starscream]], granting the Decepticons all of the Autobot access codes. The Autobot fleet was rebuilt by the time [[Unicron/Generation 1|Unicron]] launched its attack on the galaxy, the ''[[Ark-Zero]]'' serving as the flagship. The fleet massed to defend [[Caminus (planet)|Caminus]] from the monster and its [[Maximal]] army but was ravaged by the beasts' numerical superiority, limping back to Cybertron once Caminus had been consumed. {{storylink|Unicron issue 1|Unicron #1}}

Unicron soon arrived over Cybertron, now having assumed a towering [[robot mode]]. The Autobot fleet rushed into action only to be met by the [[Decepticon Vengeance Division]], a [[Decepticon fleet]] that Unicron had warped into its service.
